New York AG leads fight to stop Texas abortion ban
[NYPOST] New York Attorney General Letitia James is leading a coalition to stop Texas from blocking child sacrifice abortions during the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic, her office announced Friday.

Earlier this week, Texas issued a directive banning all non-emergency surgeries and procedures, including child sacrifice abortions, to free up resources.

"Texas and other states are using the coronavirus as an excuse to deny women their constitutional right to an child sacrifice abortion," James said in a statement. "This is a full-on assault on women’s reproductive rights not only in Texas, but across the country, and I will not allow any state to usurp the rights of women enshrined in the Constitution."

The AG said she’d be leading a coalition of attorneys general across the US to prevent Texas and other states who "use the coronavirus as a veiled assault on women’s reproductive freedoms."

The Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party...
and other organizations sued the state of Texas in federal court, calling for an immediate restraining order to halt the ban.

James’ coalition intends to file court papers, known as an amicus brief, to bolster the lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. An amicus brief allows non-parties to join a lawsuit if they have an interest in the outcome.

#1 I'm sure the people of NY overjoyed to see that their AG is on top of things necessary at time like this.

#2 I recommend NY AG go to Commanche, Texas and call for a community meeting regarding this and experience what rural Texans think of bossy yankee city slickers.

#3 In Texas open carry is legal, in Commanche, Texas open carry is rampant and so is displaying the Confederate flag. It's a whole "nuther" eorld.

#4 Yep ms Leticia, summer gets so hot in Commanche you would be wishing for a nice shade tree by a cold stream of water but in a lot of places all you get are hot rocks, prickly pear, rattle snakes (big ones!). When datk finally settles in for the evening the sky is so clear a constant show of falling stars streaking across the night sky look so close you feel like you are about to get hit by one. But soon a distraction sets in as a pack of wild yapping coyotes get your attention as they get closer and closer tracking your scent, but that sudden rattling of brush is most likely a wild hungry bobcat, or one of those huge long legged black amazingly glossy spiders with streaks of yellow looking for dinner. Or maybe a cute little calf, but watch out for that 2,200 pound mama brama that would take you out in a minute for being too close to junior. If you think you see the devil with big hooves out in the dark its just a Texas longhorn with a 6 foot horn rack with tips so sharp you can open a can of beer with one wack. You will soon stop supporting abortion because you will be wishing you could find a human being out there who get you a ride out of there... FAST!!!

Did I miss Miss Letitia's name on the ballot in 2016?

Who the hell does she think she is?

#6 I did a wordsearch for "Abortion" and "Baby killing" in the Constitution. Didn't find any. Perhaps it's just emanations of a penumbra?

#7 Does the concept of 'you have no standing' elude this great legal mind of hers?

#8 Ah yes Comanche,Texas
When I was playing football for Llano
We played Comanche a couple of times
It is not as bad as splat described
It was West Texas with its collection of critters and Mesquite trees

#9 I can't think of anything more likely to influence a Texas judge than an amicus brief from the AG of New York. Maybe not in the way Letitia has in mind, but it will influence the judge. One thing I'm too lazy to look up is whether filing an amicus brief subjects the filer to the jurisdiction of the court in which the brief is filed. That would be fun.

#10 If the robed aristocracy had any real cred, they'd reject it on 'standing' like they do so many other suits.

#11 Standing is for right to sue. Amicus briefs are just "Friend of the court" arguments

#13 New York should seriously consider following Texas' lead. With NY citizens dropping like flies and others stampeding to escape tax tyranny, New York is in serious jeopardy of becoming Baltimore2.

#16 Standing is for right to sue

Correct. How does the AG of NY and elsewhere have standing to sue for an internal decision in the state of Texas?

Article IV, Section 1 of the United States Constitution, the Full Faith and Credit Clause, addresses the duties that states within the United States have to respect the "public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state."

#17 ..in other words, send the Amicus brief as a individual, not as the office of the AG of the state.
