Packers legend Bart Starr dies at 85
[NBC Sports] Bart Starr, the MVP of the first two Super Bowls and a cornerstone of the Packers’ dynasty of the 1960s, has died. He was 85.

The Packers announced the death of the legendary quarterback on Sunday morning.

"We are saddened to note the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bart Starr," Starr’s family said in a statement released by the Packers. "He battled with courage and determination to transcend the serious stroke he suffered in September 2014, but his most recent illness was too much to overcome.

#1 Nice guy and an athlete role model kids could actually look up to.

Had lunch with his wife Cherry and him at a function in the mid 2000's. They were involved with an outreach program we shared in common, Rawhide Boy's Ranch. Very friendly, gracious and with a good sense of humor.

He will be greatly missed.

#2 A stand-up guy from an age when nobody was confused about when to stand up.

#4 Even though I grew up rooting for the 49ers, I always enjoyed seeing the Packers play. Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Ray Nitschke, and others I've forgotten. A truly great team!

#6 I used to loathe Bart Starr as a Cowboys fan, but I have to say that after reading about him in several books, including the great Jerry Kramer book about St. Vince the Lombardi, I came to realize what a great human being he was. Truly, he was all the best of what humanity has to offer in a person.

God's blessings on Bart, and may Jesus give you a special seat in Heaven.

#8 SPOD, I know what you mean....As a teen in the '60's I was a Unitas fan but I had to respect Starr and the Packers.
