(R-Arizona) is discontinuing further medical treatment, his family has announced.

Since he announced the news of the cancer to the American public, "John has surpassed expectations for his survival," the senator’s family said on Friday.

McCain, who is just days shy of his 82nd birthday, left Washington in December 2017 and has not been back since. He chose not to resign from the Senate and have the governor of Arizona appoint a replacement.

Though absent from the Senate floor, McCain has continued to co-sponsor bills and initiatives. At the beginning of August, he joined Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire) Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey), Ben Cardin (D-Maryland),

His refusal to resign when he got too sick to fulfill his Senator role was just one more sign of him being a self-centered jerk who did not care about the interests of the American people. I'm open to the notion that, on the contrary, he was fundamentally opposed to those interests, like the Democrats.
