[Grauniad] Four British citizens fighting with Daesh militants in Syria are to be subject to UN sanctions in the first such move in a decade. The British government took the drastic step of asking for some of its own citizens to face UN travel bans and asset freezes.
The four are Sally-Anne Jones, a Muslim convert from Chatham who married a Daesh computer hacker; Aqsa Mahmood, a young Glaswegian jihadi bride; Nasser Muthana, from Cardiff and Omar Hussain, from High Wycombe. All four are thought to be based in Raqqa.
The last time such a request was made was when some al-Qaeda operatives were added in 2006. The named Britons cannot travel through any country UN member nation or keep their money in any UN nation, making it more effective than national sanctions.
