#2 I received this recently:

Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 30.06 right
in the doorway. I left 6 shells beside it, then left it alone and went about my
business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the
street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few
cars stopped at the stop sign near the front of our house.

After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there, right where
I had left it. It hadn't moved itself outside. It certainly hadn't killed anyone, even
with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so.

In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself. Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the
media hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people.

Either the media is wrong or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

Well, I'm off to check on my spoons. I hear they're making people fat.

#3 Just why other democracies are losing interest in the U.S. Constitution

Because the controlling Beltway Blend Party has had no interest in the Constitution either and has acted as such for over a generation. However, they understand pretense and theater to entertain the masses who once catch on to the shame will be damn hard to control. BTW, after taking this stand Prof, never ever cry - but it's my right. There is no 'right' in your world, only POWER.

#4 Wife just got a case of .270 Win (Remington Managed Recoil) for about $1 a round - cheapest we've ever seen it. A sign that supply is finally catching up?

#5 First they came for the second amendment, and I said nothing because I had qualms about guns.
Then they came for the eighth amendment and I said nothing; some people deserved it.
Then they came for the fifth amendment and I said nothing; I feared perjury.
Then they came for the first amendment--and slowly tortured me to death when I said something.

#6 As someone who has taught constitutional law for almost 40 years I am ashamed it took me so long to see how bizarre all this is.

After reading this opinion laden editorial, I have come to the conclusion that Rosa Brooks is burned out... the thrill is gone ... from her life as a teacher and she has reached the mad-hatter stage of her career.

#7 If only they came for the 16th amendment*.

*Completely not a right at all.

#8 Reads like it was written by another "constitutional scholar" that I've heard of.
And he's supposed to be the smartest guy in the whole, wide world...

#9 Jah
New Libya Government > Olde USA Government

As a State Department Employee, what is your opinion on arming citizenry against cross-eyed dictators? What is your opinion on individuals being able to protect themselves against armed intruders?

40 years to figure the very thing your worked so hard for a professorship is wrong? Put the blunt down slowly, take your retirement, and go buy a sports car. But when you go buy that sports car, make sure your contract and loan are not living, breathing agreements, or else one day you will find your interest rate jacked up without your permission and your power train warrenty olde and out of date not taking into account your stop and go driving habits.

And for you neo-hippies doing your research: take the Legend of Kent State. If it were King George colonial times, crazy G would have posted a armed soldier with a license to kill in 1 out of 5 dorm rooms. Can't happen here? It did happen here. Colonians knew it was real when foreign mercenaries were hired to put them down. That is standard procedure, just ask QuelleDaffy.

Exit question for the esteemed collector of fine chair lent: Your thoughts on Harper's Ferry, Quantril's Raids, or Poncho Villa.

Bonus question for uber-liberals: what was the lawful status of the Lakota possesing weapons and Custer's right to seizure?

#10 And boy, have circumstances changed lately. To return to gun deaths, the framers could never have imagined weapons technologies like those used in Newtown, Conn., or the Navy Yard.

This article is so screwed up that it's hard to pick on any one part of it, but the author's notion that the men and women who founded this great nation would have recoiled in horror at advanced weaponry strikes me as a double helping of bullshit. (I also suspect she underestimates the ability of people like Jefferson and Franklin to imagine such things, but that's another rant.)

The undisputed leader of the crew, GW his own self, was a consummate gentleman, but crossed the Delaware on Christmas so that his men could bayonet foreign mercenaries in their sleep, hanged Major Andre instead of at least giving the poor kid the honor of a firing squad, and in general did everything fair or foul to drive the enemy into the sea. If he were somehow among us today and you could explain to him what a Warthog could do to infantry, his only regret would be not having a couple at the Battle of Brooklyn. Gun-fearing these folks were not. Hence, the Second Amendment.

#12 I am fully in favor of getting ILLEGAL guns off the street. Many of the homicides people like this jerk talk about are committed with illegal guns. The Navy Yard killer was mentally ill, who had called the police for help. He should have been treated, but the police laughed him off.

However, people who want to ban guns have no solution to removing illegal guns from the street. And people who use guns illegally don't care about the laws (especially robbery and homicide) anyway.

So what is the solution people propose? To make all guns illegal, thereby depriving law abiding citizens of any means of self defense. The criminals will continue to use their illegal guns to commit crimes. Other people will have to resort to prayer, I guess. Since law abiding citizen will have registered their guns, the police will know exactly where to go to confiscate the guns, and arrest the (newly minted) criminals if they dare resist.

Oh, right. Call the police. 1)They are under no OBLIGATION to protect you. 2) When seconds count, the police are only minutes or hours away. Their main task will be to collect your body, notify your family, write up a report, and make a halfhearted effort to find your killer.

#13 Yeah, what do those dunderheads Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson know about the advancement of technology and the human condition, especially compared to a clunky writing Georgetown Law Pro-fess-or. With luck, this person talks like she writes so nobody can learn from what she says.
