The Russians killed tens of thousands of Polish officers at Katyn because they might have resisted Soviet rule. Th Taliban are every bit as capable of taking out people who may give them grief someday.

#5 Their best talent was syphoning off funds and other corrupt practices. The Taliban needs that talent in dealing with the international community. They formerly corrupt officials will reestablish their previous scams with their corruption globalist partners. The Taliban will replace the returning officials one by one down the road but, for now, previous government officials would be useful. It will probably be low level flunkies who did not steal enough previously to fund a lavish lifestyle.
