#2 That nicotine (or inhaling anything into the lungs) could be a benefit sure as heck seems quite counter-intuitive.

#4 Since apparently the statistical anomaly only concerns current smokers this run on nicotine products for ex-smokers makes little sense.

For all we know some trace chemical in tobacco smoke has some positive effect but only if inhaled.

And of course correlation does not imply causation. The causal chain underlying this might not have anything to do with a potential therapy.

#6 Same reason it's a pain to get nitrile gloves on Amazon -- reserved for people who need it. The French may be jumping the gun, or getting ahead of hoarding.
