#1 Why, Yes!, the US has been funding research on hypersonic weapons for decades.... except they just don't work as of yet. The technological hurdles are immense whether you consider the design of the engines or just finding some material that will not melt halfway to the target.
TL/DR: Pull the other leg... Hypersonic weapons have been the Weapons Of The Futureā„¢ for decades.
