#1 This is interesting. My impression was Kadyrov was Putin's pet Chechen and was given a free hand as long as he kept a lid on things. If memory serves, there have been a number of bombings in Russia which have been attributed to Islamists (could just be business disputes, tho). Disappointing Mr. Putin doesn't seem like a career-enhancing move.
