#3 I think it was activated Skid. Airframe blows apart before it hits the ground.

#4 According to some links 3dc found, they don't activate the self-destruct until it's been off the pad for about 30 seconds, supposedly so it won't fall back down on the pad, and supposedly because the nearest town is farther than 30 seconds away.
