#2 Mikey, if we quit paying the bribes to Egypt lots of people there will start to starve. To prevent that (and to protect themselves) the Egyptian leadership will have to replace our funds (or food) from somewhere else. China? And what would China demand in exchange? Perhaps the only thing Egypt has of value - 'control' (some kind of subtle thing - not Chinese soldiers at the locks) over the Suez Canal. Last I looked they had an arrangement with Panama that had the potential to give them control over that canal.

#4 lots of people are going to starve in Egypt anyway. They are the world's biggest wheat importer and the wheat price has doubled and their economy has crashed.
Their only real option is to grab some of the Libyan oilfields.

#6 I was certain the Muslim Brotherhood would let the generals and the modernists ride the economy down to the crash, then take over to popular acclaim as saviours, Instead they were greedy for power, and will be the ones to take the ride, waiting for their god to step in and save them for sake of their piety. Oh well.
