#1 A remarkable life. I highly recommend Neal's biography First Man by James Hansen which shows what a different breed that came out of the depression.
My favorite line - Anytime you land successfully, it's a good one. Anytime you can reused the aircraft, it's an excellent one.

#2 RIP Neil Armstrong, a great American.
To show how far we've gone into Bizarro World, this is how the NYT (!!!) reported the landing:
"July 21, 1969
Our Men Walk on the Moon
Stars and Stripes Placed on Moon in Historic Moment
Two Americans landed on the moon and explored its surface for some two hours Sunday, planting the first human footprints in its dusty soil. They raised their nation's flag and talked to their President on earth 240,000 miles away."

#5 He used to refer to himself as "a white socks, poket protector, nerdy kind of guy."
The attire of heroes.

#8 You will be missed Neil. America is still producing men and women of that caliber, but the government is doing its best to keep them down rather than letting them build up.

#9 I love the headline NBC used yesterday for a while:
Astronaut Neil Young, first man to walk on moon, dies at age 82.
