#1 but received a letter from an attorney that said everything was fine. Since when did attorneys grant US citizenship?

#2 OTOH, a native American I know applied for a passport in 1974 & was denied, since she had no birth certificate. She did have a baptismal certificate, but it spelled her name differently than what she had been using since then. The State Department wasn't mollified until she submitted a letter from her mother (who was about 85 at the time) attesting to her birth & the name she went by. I don't know what she would have done had her mother not been around.
