#1 This was a tough one up here. Just got home when this happened. Reminded me of the AWACS flight Yukla 27 in September 1995 that killed the crew. Our thoughts and prayers for the crew and families of the C-17.

A link to the story of the C-17.

#2 My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of these warriors, and to the units where they were assigned. Barbara Boxer was right in one point - those that serve in the military develop exceptional bonds with one another, especially among combat units and those that constantly train for combat. The other members become as close as family. Losing one of them is like losing a favored cousin. It's never easy. Losses during training are especially deeply felt, because they're so unexpected. All of us who have served, or are serving, feel deeply about the loss of any of our family members, whether biological or military.
