#1 I'm OK with this. The loss of a child is devastating. Perhaps there is closure here - and the deterent effect is clear - at least this one won't kill again.

#2 Vendetta is a basic human behavior. Eye for eye.. What the proto-states promised to end a cycle of violence between clans/tribes/et al was to become the third disinterested party to render 'blind' justice. The fundamental problem today is that the state lacks the will to perform that function. The legal caste is too wrapped up in ritualistic processes, image, and unrealistic expectations/demands. The cycle of gang violence in our own metropolitan areas is a reflection that it is losing that legitimacy to act as a third party.

#3 The state's monopoly on violence is supposed to short-cut the vendetta cycle. Letting the parents "execute" the guilty party negates the whole point of the exercise.
