#2 Any idea whether this is another "gun free" zone?

#4 Perusing Illinois firearms laws, I find that there is no carry allowed (concealed or open) of handguns in public areas or in vehicles. Transportation in vehicles requires that the weapon must be unloaded and locked up. Some suburbs have outlawed handguns. So the perpetrator of the shooting murders also violated Illinois gun laws, FWIW, and the law abiding citizens are helpless.

#5 The mall is about two miles from where I live. I have shopped at this mall frequently. There's a Best Buy and an Office Depot there along with a Target and some other big box stores.

The Lane Bryant store sits in its own part of the mall complex. Fairly large but not like the Best Buy.

I had planned to go to the mall today (need a new internal hard drive and Best Buy is usually where I start). I had gone to my barber's first, and she told me about the shooting.

As far as I know the mall is not firearms-free.

What I don't understand is why anyone would rob a Lane Bryant. Most of the receipts at a big box store are credit; most of the big cash taken in gets moved to the back at regular intervals. Not likely the registers would have a lot of cash.

Very sad.

#6 The DrudgeReport links to the local CBS affiliate's report.
He was described as an African-American male of medium complexion, standing 5 feet 8 inches and weighing 230 to 260 pounds, with a black knit cap, a black waist-length winter coat, and dark jeans, Grady said. A witness outside the store gave the description of the individual

For what it's worth.

#8 "What I don't understand is why anyone would rob a Lane Bryant."

Stupidity? Perceived lousy security? First store he saw when he got out of his car/off the bus? Hatred of fat chicks?

(Asked as a professional fat chick, by the way.)

#9 You know a woman who gets paid to be fat, Barbara? Are there many job openings in the profession? ;-)
