#2 Or it could be a very isolated concentration of solar particles that were able to breach the Van Allen to overload a lot of electrical circuitry. Geordi down in engineering could probably explain it better than Father Amorth. Nothing as serious as a warp core breach. That would have ruined everyone's day if it had happened. :)

#4 Actually, there is something to be said for the magma theory, generating enormous electrical potentials. It would be dependent on several things, such as a crystalline surface geology acting as a Leyden jar, dry soil conditions and a lack of atmospheric disturbances. If a storm came up they might have one heck of a lightning show.

#9 Of course somebody could be messing around with exploding toroidal transformers in series with klystron tube so synchronize the explosions.... If the do it right it could set the suns magnetosphere to ringing... like happened in the late 70s with those experimental rail guns powered that way in the Australian desert. (Voyager noticed the ringing...)
