#1 Blue ear is to porkers what bird flu is to chickens/poultry, although I've never seen a bleeder pig on any Guam ranchos, or even the feew stateside farms I've seen. Blue-eared pigs are typically given anti-biotics and reviewed by Fed-Guam Agriculture or animal Perts before any slaughter takes place - hasn't stopped a barbecue or stew yet. Methinks the key words in this article is "LARGE-SCALE FARMS" = PCSpeak for STATE-OWNED/SUBSIDIZED, COMMIE-STYLE? COLLECTIVES???

#12 TW. I saw no mention of antibiotics. The vaccine that is mentioned will inoculate any non-infected pigs but the ones already infected will either develop their own immunity or die depending on the severity of infection.

#15 The CDC could indeed identify a known virus or disease within at most a few days.

Modern DNA sequencing and analysis gear, particularly the 454 sequencers from Life Sciences, can sequence and analyze samples within 24 hours. Preparing the sample takes longer than it does to sequence the sample.

Comparing the sequenced sample to a bank of known diseases (that have already been sequenced) is childs' play.
