There is the important part. I suspect the "senior official" is speaking for public consumption rather than out of a concern for factual accuracy.

#6 Iran was not involved, just some of their people volunteered and did it, same as all those IRGC operators in Iraq fighting Coalition Forces until GWB quietly made the ayatollahs an offer they could not refuse, and the Iranian shaped charges carried and set by volunteers from Iran, but not as Iran, suddenly were not there: not Iran, just volunteers.
