#1 ...but Congress did not repeal Article 125 [Sodomy] or Article 78 [Accessory After the Fact] of the UCMJ upon which the 'policy' was based upon. The problem is that 78 requires action if 125 is known. Meanwhile the separation of straights will continue for adultery, fraternization, and sexual harassment.

#2 What I expect is for the number of homicides, suicides, and fatal training accidents to go up a little, with *nobody* stupid enough to attribute them to the deceased being homosexual, lest the entire command be punished.

The downside to this is that now, even the *rumor* of being a homosexual could be a death sentence, so anyone assigned such a rumor must be given a transfer on unrelated grounds.

Likewise it must be made *abundantly* clear that spreading such rumors will get someone severe non-judicial punishment, also on unrelated grounds.

#3 I'm not in the military and I know Anyonymoose is describing the way things were a decade ago or so. Is it really like that now?

My understanding is that most of the military are not dumb-reactionary hicks that will kill gays pell-mell. I think a more likely response is a number of folks don't reup. They've been ground down through constant deployment and if serving besides gays really drives them nuts there is little reason to stay.

#4 When I ws Navy, they actively SEARCH for HOMOS, and if they can't find one, blame the new guy.

Yup, I was the new guy, I still remember the harrassment, we had a communal shower, I was showering and heard some guy saying "He didn't even look at me" I asked him, and yes he'd been "Told" I was queer (I'm not).

I did 4 years and OUT, good riddance.

#5 most likely rj. I expect a lot of middle grades will start evaluating whether they want to stay in with even more layers of PC that tell them to ignore things that undermine unit cohesion and morale. It's not everyone, but enough out there that just need to make a problem that then hide behind mommy skirts for protection against discipline that otherwise would be handed out to others for similar behaviors. It destroys not only the unit cohesion, it ultimately undermines the integrity of the command system. 'They don't want to hear it or deal with it' finally leads to something big blowing up in peoples faces. The bottom line is they'll get the same degree of effectiveness that the Russians live with.

#6 I have 5yrs and change left...that, and 3kids it's too late to punch the ticket. However, I doubt I'll stay beyond 20. I don't mind the deployments but too much PC non-sense and subpar civilian leadership (& even military leadership) has left me w/little motivation to go beyond 20.

I'm still surprised not one General or Adm re-signed/retired in protest over this. Politicos in uniform. I saw and gave enough tours to Flag grades on my recent deployment that it really took off my rose colored glasses. Too many old guys worried about adding the next star IMHO.

I think the brass is praying Obama is one and done. They are probably praying that the Repubs don't send out a Bob Dole in 2012 and saddle us with 4 more years of Zero.

#8 Here are the problems with the Comprehensive Review Working Group’s (CRWG) report.

While the questionnaire CRWG used never actually asked if respondents favored repeal of DADT, it presumes to know the answer. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates confidently opined, “a strong majority … two-thirds, do not object to gays and l*sbians serving openly in uniform.”

The report asked whether the presence of homosexuals in a unit would affect its ability to “get the job done.” The report offered the fact that 70% answered to the affirmative. This answer can very defensibly be construed to mean a substantial 30% foresee problems following the end of DADT.

Of the 400,000 active and reserve military personnel surveyed via E-mail, just 28% responded. This universe would be scarcely acceptable if there were only 400,000 personnel in our armed forces, but it is dubious given the fact that we have 2.2 million people in uniform. Based on the actual number the response was just 5%.

The report includes no explanation of how the selected respondents were chosen or any defense of the sample as being a true random sample.
