#2 Before gaining independence so-called Iraq was ruled by Turks and Mamaluks for centuries. There then followed a succession of dictatorships. There is absolutely no tradition of indigenous rule since Biblical times. Thus. asking Iraqis (Arabs, Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites) to unite in some sort of freedom-loving state is, unfortunately, a losing proposition.
