#4 BYD has had serious QC issues, both overseas and at home. Too many sources to refer to here, but be wary of information funded by BYD (where everything is rosy).

According to auto service shops in China, they've cheapened their sub-frames, steering gears and suspensions on the lower-mid priced models over the last few years to cut costs. Plus, their onboard charging systems for all models seem to fail (or even induce battery fires) quite often.

And I wonder if the Chinesium 'metal' would even survive a winter in the 'Salt Belt'.

#7 Do EVs have to get UL approval?

The UL listing isn't what it used to be, MM. The Canadian ULc is still fairly good.

The US UL labs are more interested in taking your money.

#8 Yeah, MR, I get that. My comment was a toss off of snark. As a guy who fixes electronic and electrical stuff I don't have much faith in UL approval.

#11 Doesn't matter if a 40k vehicle washes your balls, if all you can afford is the 10k Chyna Pinto.

And from what I've been hearing, regionally, furniture sales are way down and off-brand appliances are steady. That means nobody has spare money.

#12 ...IF this is true/safe - and those are a couple of big IFs - this might well upend the entire US market, especially if you can home charge it without special gear. I have no problems with an EV, but it makes no sense for anything other than a car for local use - call it a 100-125 mile range on a charge. If you can get that with home charge, there will be a bloodbath at the Big 2.5 and Tesla.

#13 Doesn't matter if it is safe, that's a risk Biden is willing for you to take.

First Responders have been saying for like half a decade about the safety faults of EVs and officials don't care because agenda and narrative.

#14 Only time a politician cares what first responders think is at endorsement time. And usually the union is not on the same page with the rank and file members anyway.

#15 The Chinese already have a huge problem with these things catching fire. I guess Biden wants more of that over here.

#16 Power company was having a bad day here yesterday, lights were on and off like a disco. When it was all settled, the tube LED light over my kitchen sink and the fan / light in my bathroom were dead.

I can only imagine what similar power surges will do to a poorly designed EV while it's charging.

#17 Or if they get heckled.

It is hilarious how google changed the definition of 'bloodbath' from actual and rhetorical, to just actual violence.

Ignoring Heinlein's observation that using political authority is force, and the ultimate force is violence.

Therefore, using political authority to force EVs which will destroy the US auto industry is physical force, violence.

So stupidei.
