If you belong to the Occasional-Cortex School of Charted Accountancy, every time a company decides not to build or relocate in your city, you get to move any tax breaks they might have received directly into Cash On Hand*. It's a total win for The People. It's like free money!

The only thing better would be if the entire city was destroyed in a nuclear blast, unleashing an unprecedented outburst of Broken Windows economic prosperity. Jobs for everyone!

* If you are going to tell me this is not how tax breaks work, just shut up. Hater!

#8 The New York HQ was going to be a "plum assignment" outpost. And of course the incentive money was, um, an incentive. And I wouldn't be surprised is Amazon intended NY HQ to provide a springboard into financial services.
