At the risk of being the pedantic nerd, Cheney shot a lawyer.

Howie Carr: White lies catch up to Elizabeth Warren
[Boston Globe] Where do I go to get my reputation back?

Do you know how many times I've been called a "racist" over the last six years for calling Elizabeth Warren exactly what she just called herself in Baltimore – "not a person of color."

In other words, a fake Indian.

She finally admitted the obvious on a Friday afternoon, just before Christmas, in front of what she must have assumed would be a somewhat sympathetic audience at a black college.

Two months after offering what she claimed was definitive proof of her Native American ancestry, she is now acknowledging that she's a honky.

The fake Indian has finally been scalped … by reality.

Here's the next step for the woman who was white before she was Cherokee before she was white: release your employment applications to the law schools at Harvard and Penn. Since you now admit you're a white woman, it shouldn't be a problem to prove once and for all that you never did "check the box" to grab a racial preference you weren't entitled to.

Show us, fake Indian, that you did not speak with forked tongue many moons ago. If you no lie, we smoke peace pipe.

The takeaway here is, Elizabeth Warren still dreams of being elected president in 2020. She wouldn't be humiliating herself like this if she didn't want to be the Great White Father.

She's been huddling with her fellow geriatric faker Bernie Sanders. She's reportedly scouting locations in Boston for a campaign headquarters. Potomac fever is a tough disease to overcome, especially, for some reason, if you're from Massachusetts.

Just ask Mitt Romney, or John Kerry.

Israeli Army Says Fourth Hezbollah Attack Tunnel Found Crossing From Lebanon
[MAIL] Israel's army said Sunday it has uncovered another Hezbollah "attack tunnel" leading from Lebanon into its territory, the fourth since it started a search-and-destroy operation this month.

Israel says the Iranian-backed Shiite militant group has dug the infiltration tunnels for use in a future conflict, and the military has been working to eliminate them.

The latest tunnel crossing into northern Israel was exposed at the weekend, the army said in a statement.

As with the other tunnels, soldiers placed explosives in it to keep out militants from the Lebanese side, it said.

The military refused to give the exact location, stressing the tunnel did not "pose an imminent threat".

On December 4, the army announced an operation dubbed "Northern Shield" to destroy tunnels it said have been dug under the border by Hezbollah.

Israel fought a devastating war against Hezbollah in 2006 that was halted by a UN-brokered truce.

Hezbollah is the only group in Lebanon not to have disarmed after the country's 1975-1990 civil war.

"The Lebanese government is held accountable for the attack tunnels dug from Lebanese territory," the Sunday statement said.

"This is another blatant breach of UN Resolution 1701 and of Israeli sovereignty," it added, referring to the resolution ending the 2006 war.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the UN peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, UNIFIL, and international community should do more to curb Hezbollah's "acts of aggression against Israel".

UNIFIL has verified the existence of two of the tunnels Israel has exposed so far.

Researchers Discover Cure For Man Bun - 2016 Babylon Bee article
[Babylon Bee] SEATTLE, WA‐In what’s being called a miraculous breakthrough, researchers at the University of Washington announced Monday a promising new treatment for the unfortunate male hairstyle known as a "man bun."

The cure is reportedly comprised an inexpensive operation using a pair of shears, coupled with a psychiatric follow-up administered by a medical professional designed to help the victim come to the conclusion that they need to make better decisions about their life.

"In early clinical trials, our aggressive treatment plan has shown a nearly 98% success rate," Dr. Ivan E. Orlov told reporters excitedly. "While a small number of patients later relapsed into gathering their unkempt, sometimes thinning hair into a malformed growth near the back of their head, the vast majority enjoyed sustained recovery and a happy post-man-bun life."

According to Orlov, early experimental treatments like making fun of the subject, covering the deformed lump with a hat or beanie, and waiting for the patient to come to his senses proved ineffective.

"We found that the malicious growth had to be attacked from the root in order to see a marked recovery in the patient," Orlov said.

Stars & Stripes publishes WAPO hit job on Mike Flynn
[Stars & Stripes] WASHINGTON ‐ What happened to Michael Flynn?
He threw the bullshi* flag, that's what happened to him.
Before he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, before he became a folk hero to many of President Donald Trump's most loyal supporters, before he pivoted from accomplished military officer to purveyor of shocking stories about the evils of Islam, something changed in the tough kid who rose to be a three-star Army general.

His friends and critics agree that after winning a reputation as a master intelligence officer on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, Flynn broke with lifelong patterns of behavior. Once discreet and apolitical, he morphed into a highly partisan alarm ringer. A man once trusted to cautiously analyze information began touting wild hearsay as fact.
Seeing flawed U.S. policy in the ME toss young soldiers into the meat grinder of endless wars will do that to you.
Flynn, 60, is expected to be sentenced in federal court Tuesday after having given prosecutors 19 interviews as part of their investigation into the Trump campaign's relationship with Russia. Whatever punishment the court imposes, the mystery of Flynn's transformation endures.

More than two dozen of Flynn's friends, superiors and colleagues ‐ including some who see him as a heroic truth teller and others who wonder how he went off the rails ‐ agreed in interviews that Flynn's public persona shifted dramatically. They remain at odds over why it happened.
"Friends".... like General Stan McChrystal and Admiral Mike Mullen ?
Did he gradually absorb a new, conspiracy-minded worldview, in part inspired by his son Michael Jr.'s embrace of fringe ideas? Did he discard lifelong habits because he'd been enraged to his core when President Barack Obama's administration in 2014 removed him as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), his last and most senior military assignment? Or had Flynn, who retired as a lieutenant general, long harbored extreme views, successfully shielding his real opinions from those around him?
Yes, I suppose "Lock her UP" could be characterized as "extreme" if you do not believe in the Rule of Law.
Although the explanations vary, the change is undeniable.

#1  Did he gradually absorb a new, conspiracy-minded worldview?

Translation: He recognized the existence of the Deep State.

In 2010, Flynn jolted the U.S. intelligence community when he co-wrote "Fixing Intel," a paper for a think tank that concluded that the nation's intelligence work in Afghanistan was "ignorant," "incurious," "disengaged," a massive waste of resources. "Merely killing insurgents usually serves to multiply enemies rather than subtract them," the paper said.

A very accurate and timely assessment.

At Last, Congress Overhauls Its Awful Sexual Harassment Policy
[Huffpoo] WASHINGTON ― Congress passed a bill Thursday to overhaul its embarrassingly bad policy on sexual harassment, an update that will finally require lawmakers to pay out of pocket ― instead of spending your money ― when they get sued by staff for groping or other lewd behavior.

It took months of negotiations, but House and Senate lawmakers struck a deal Wednesday on what, exactly, the new Capitol Hill policy should look like. The final bill sailed through the House and Senate on Thursday by unanimous consent. All that’s left now is for President Donald Trump to sign it. (The irony is not lost on this reporter.)

The new law "will focus on protecting victims, strengthening transparency, holding Members accountable for their personal conduct, and improving the adjudication process," reads a statement by Reps. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.), Robert Brady (D-Pa.), Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.) and Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), top House negotiators on the bill.

Lawmakers agreed to get rid of some outdated provisions. Under the current law, which has been in place since 1995, Capitol Hill staffers who claim they’ve been harassed or discriminated against have to undergo counseling, mandatory arbitration and a 30-day "cooling off" period before going to court. They won’t have to do any of that anymore.

74th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in color
[Mail] The terrible wintry conditions soldiers were forced to fight in during the last major German offensive of World War Two have been brought to light thanks to a series of colorised images to mark the 74th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Striking pictures show three gunners prepare to fire a shell on New Year's Eve in 1944 with the inscription 'For Adolph, unhappy new year', American GIs are pictured resting on railway tracks after combat in Duren and two soldiers can be seen inspecting a deserted Panther tank formerly of the Panzer Division Das Reich near Grandmenil, Belgium.

Other vivid colour photographs show a US half track cross a temporary bridge over the Ourthe River, members of the US 101st Airborne Division move out of Bastogne and Panzergrenadier-SS Kampfgruppe Hansen in action during clashes in Poteau against Task Force Myers.

#2  The Bulge - surprise attack by an enemy declared all but defeated. Casualties - 89,500 (includes killed, wounded, missing, captured), Loses - 733 tanks and tank destroyers. Destroyed the 106th Infantry Division. By the end of January, the Allies controlled the area lost in the German offensive. Reported as an American victory in the (Old) Media.

Tet Offensive - surprise attack by an enemy declared all but defeated. South Vietnamese Casualties - 4,954 killed, 15,917 wounded, 926 missing. US and allied Casualties - 4,124 killed,
19,295 wounded, 604 missing. The Viet Cong basically destroyed with the NVA doing the fighting for the rest of the war. All territory lost during the fight regained by the South Vietnamese and allied forces. Reported as an American defeat by the (New) Media.

And they wonder why so many people today consider the Media to be the enemy.

When liberated weighed just over 100 lbs because virtually the only thing they got to eat were the few Red Cross parcels that got past the guards. I saw his little army bible from his captivity, filled every blank space with food descriptions. Israeli army razes home of prominent Palestinian activist
[Aljazeera] The Israeli army has demolished a residential building owned by a prominent Palestinian activist, whose six sons have been imprisoned by Israel.

The building, owned by Latifa Abu Hmeid, is located in the Amari refugee camp near the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

According to an Anadolu news agency reporter based in the area, Israeli soldiers raided the camp early Saturday, surrounding the building before bringing it down in a controlled demolition.

Before razing the four-storey structure, the army evicted dozens of journalists and solidarity activists who had been inside the building in a bid to prevent its destruction.

Israel accused one of Abu Hmeid's sons of killing an Israeli soldier in May.

Protesters called the destruction a form of collective punishment.

U.S. CBO Suggests $1 Trillion Carbon Tax As France Reels From Anti-Carbon Tax Riots
[Daily Caller] It’s been just nine days since the French government abandoned plans to increase the carbon tax on fuel, and the congressional budgeting arm is suggesting a $1 trillion tax on carbon dioxide emissions to close the budget deficit.

"This option would impose a tax of $25 per metric ton on most emissions of greenhouse gases in the United States," reads a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report released Thursday. "The tax would increase at an annual inflation-adjusted rate of 2 percent."

The CBO suggested a carbon tax as one of "121 options that would decrease federal spending or increase federal revenues over the next 10 years." The CBO published several reports looking at the budgetary impacts of a carbon tax.

However, the CBO’s carbon tax suggestion comes after French President Emmanuel Macron and lawmakers were forced to scrap plans to raise fuel taxes after weeks of violent protests. Those protests also spread to Brussels, where protesters clashed with police over fuel tax rises.

Tens of thousands of protesters, called "yellow vests," took to the streets in November, sparked by a planned rise in diesel and gasoline taxes. The tax increases were part of Macron’s plan to wean France off oil and fight global warming.

#5  Frank G asks, " Since when did they start doing proposals?"

Good question.

The CBO produces a lot of reports. Many are required by law. For several decades, more and more individuals in Congress have asked the CBO to do analysis for them. The CBO has, by policy, limited its work of this kind to analysis requested formally by the chair or ranking members of budget, finance and appropriations committees.

The number of analyses required are still a lot and the methodology has become standardized using a number of 'quick and dirty' methods which do not take into account secondary or tertiary financial effects very well (or not at all in many cases) and also don't produce quantitative estimates of impact on, say GDP or income distribution (sometimes the CBO will give a few words on this but without numbers).

Father of Strasbourg shooter says son supported Islamic State
[IsraelTimes] Abdelkrim Chekatt said he tried to convince Cherif Chekatt to quit backing terror group, went to police after attack fearing he was involved.

The man described as the father of the 29-year-old suspect in this week’s deadly Christmas market attack in Strasbourg says his son subscribed to the beliefs of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

The interview with Abdelkrim Chekatt by the state-run La Belle France 2 television channel was shown Saturday night, two days after the son was killed in a confrontation with three coppers in his childhood neighborhood in Strasbourg following a massive manhunt. Four people died in the Tuesday night attack. A dozen others were maimed.

The Christmas market in the eastern city of Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament, is the largest in La Belle France. It reopened on Friday after being closed during the search for the suspect.

Chekatt said he had seen his son, Cherif Chekatt, three days before the attack but couldn’t contact him while he was on the run.

He acknowledged that his son backed the IS group.

"He’d say, for example, that ISIS, fights for the just cause and all that," the red-bearded father said, using the common term in La Belle France and elsewhere for the Islamic State group.

The interview, initially outdoors with the father, continued briefly inside with Cheriff Chekatt’s mother, Rouadja Rouag, who expressed shock and sorrow for the deaths. La Belle France 2 said the couple had been divorced for a long time.

Abdelkrim Chekatt, a French-Algerian, said he’d tried in the past to dissuade his son from backing the Islamic State, saying, "You don’t see the atrocities they commit." The son would reply that "it’s not them," the father said.

The father and mother and two siblings of the suspected killer were among seven people held for questioning. French media reported that the family members were released. The three others, still in jug, are unrelated but close to Chekatt.

The father said he went to police of his own accord and on a suspicion the night of the son’s rampage with a handgun and a knife.

He said he told police that "if ever you locate Cherif, tell me. I’ll go to him and try to reason with him to give up."

He also said that if his son had told him about a project to kill "I would have denounced him, and he wouldn’t have killed or been killed."

Gender Stereotyping in Adverts Is Great; Banning It Is Dangerous PC Lunacy
[Breitbart] My favourite advert of the last ten years was probably the "Are you beach body ready?" Protein World poster campaign.

Partly I liked it because it featured a hot-looking girl in a bikini, so naturally it appealed to my inner caveman.

Partly I liked it because it annoyed so many of the right people ‐ everyone from London’s closet Islamist Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, to all the feminists who were outraged that in the 21st century men still want to stare at semi-naked hot chicks with slim bodies more than they want to stare at minging porkers with blue hair and PhDs in gender studies and multiple cat maintenance.

Mainly I liked it because it was a glorious throwback to a happier, better age when advertising did what it is supposed to do: appeal to our most basic instincts in order to seduce us into buying stuff.

These were the days when all aftershave ads gave the impression that if you slapped on the right product you’d get laid ‐ even, no, especially, if you were a spotty teenager and all you could afford was Old Spice or Brut.

When you learned that if you smoked the right brand of cigarettes you’d become cool and rugged like the Marlboro cowboy, or mysterious and chic like the Silk Cut ads, or fast and dangerous like the black and gold John Player Special racing car.

When you learned that if you drank spirits you’d magically enter a world like Duran Duran on a yacht full of beautiful, available women, and that if you drank lager you’d become one of the lads and get extra good at the banter.

'Hezbollah evades Israeli bombs in Syria by flying Russian flag'
[Ynet] With Moscow smarting over losing plane during IAF attack in Syria, Russian newspaper says Kremlin made deal with Tehran that gives Iranian allies full protection.

Moscow is allowing fighters from Hezbollah and other pro-Iranian Shiite groups operating in Syria to carry Russian flags in order to protect them from Israeli Arclight airstrikes, Russia's Kommersant newspaper reported Wednesday.

The report follows a Russian snub earlier this week to Israeli military officials, as Moscow appears reluctant to ease its anger over the loss of one of its planes during an IAF bombing raid in Syria in September. The plane was brought down by Syrian missiles targeting the Israelis, but Moscow insists that Jerusalem did not provide sufficient warning of its strike to allow its aircraft to reach safety.

Russian flags were recently seen near the military airport in the Syrian city of Hama, where Iranian installations were attacked by the IAF in the past. The flags were also flying in the cities of Homs and Idlib, as well as in the Syrian desert.

According to the report, Israel complained to Russia that its flags were spotted atop compounds and military convoys belonging to Iran and its allies in Syria. The complaint came ahead of a senior Israeli military delegation visit to Moscow on Tuesday.

According to Syrian opposition leader Colonel Petach Hasson, the Iranians promised to coordinate with the Russian military’s Syrian headquarters in Latakia in exchange for protection for the Shiite militias allied to Iran operating in the war-torn country.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit declined to comment on the Russian report.

The IDF delegation's visit to Moscow on Tuesday was the first time that military officials from the Israel and Russia met since Israel Air Force Commander Amikam Norkin visited Moscow in September. Norkin went to Moscow to present the findings of an Israeli inquiry into how Syrian anti-aircraft shot down a Russian plane during an IAF air strike.

The Russian Defense Ministry rejected the Israeli findings and insisted that Israel bears responsibility for the plane’s downing, and all attempts by Israel’s government to reconcile with the Russians were rebuffed.

Over the past two weeks, the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem made frantic efforts to get their Russian counterparts to agree to host the Israeli delegation, led by the head of the IDF Operations Directorate, Major General Aharon Haliva. Following the meeting in Moscow, the Russians issued a brief statement emphasizing that nothing concrete had been agreed upon, except that the two sides would continue to hold discussions on security coordination in Syria.

PUTIN'S COLD SHOULDER
Although Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
yielded to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pressure to receive the Israeli delegation, the Russians did not intend to actually resolve the crisis over the plane, as evidenced by the fact that Haliva didn’t get to meet his Russian counterpart. Instead, Haliva was matched with his counterpart's deputy, Major General Vasily Trushin, who is about to finish his term and is not actually involved in the Syrian crisis.

"Trushin is the only one in regular contact with Israel," said a senior military Israeli official.

Furthermore, the Russians set the date for the meeting knowing full well that their chief of military operations, chief of staff, defense minister, and a large part of the Russian military brass would not even be in the country during Haliva’s visit.

And the Russians are adamant in their refusal to reach an understanding with Israel on the issue.

"Our position remains unchanged. The chaotic damage done to Syrian infrastructure by the IAF, on the pretext of an Iranian threat, is unacceptable to us," said a senior source in the Russian Defense Ministry ahead of Tuesday's meeting.

Former teacher admits to biting teen’s butt while in pool
[NYPOST] A former middle school teacher has pleaded guilty to biting a 14-year-old girl’s butt as the teen played water volleyball during a Fourth of July celebration in Georgia.

Jonathan William Herbert, 30, will serve 30 days in jail and four years probation under the plea deal reached on Friday, according to The Daily Mail.

Herbert allegedly did nothing to hide his actions: Multiple witnesses saw the drunken educator swim underwater and bite the girl while in a lake north of Atlanta, authorities said. The perv then tried to bribe a cop with $200 after he was nabbed.

He didn’t have any connection to the girl or her family. Herbert resigned from his teaching job on Aug. 1.

His battery, public drunkenness and bribery charges will be wiped from his record if he completes his sentence without any problems. Herbert is also barred from teaching and can’t be seen in areas "where children congregate," according to court records.

Video: ISIS militants abandon their leader and flee battles against SDF
(IraqiNews.com) The Syrian Democratic Forces published, on Saturday, a video footage showing members of the Islamic State while fleeing the battle, east of Deir Ezzor, and abandoning their leader.

The page of the Syrian Democratic Forces stated that it got the footage from a “Ku-Pro” Camera, which was fixed on the head of Leader of the ISIS militants, Abu Ayman al-Iraqi, who was killed during the clashes.

Furthermore, it added that the ISIS militants abandoned their leader, who was badly injured, and left him to suffer for hours before dying.

It is noteworthy that large number of the Islamic State leaders were killed, since the SDF announced, three months ago, launching its offensive to retake the last stronghold of the ISIS in the areas of Albagouzm Abulkhater, Abulhassan, Hajin, Sha’fa and Sousa.

Iraqi civilian killed in a tribal dispute in Diwaniyah
Qādisiyyah (IraqiNews.com) An official source informed that a civilian was killed, inside his house, during a tribal dispute in Diwaniyah, Alsumariah news reported on Saturday.

The source told Alsumariah that a civilian was killed, inside his house, due to a tribal conflict in the province of al-Diwaniyah.

A number of the provinces of Iraq, especially in the south, are witnessing tribal conflicts that develop into armed festivities, using light and medium weapons, leaving a number of casualties.
Now that the existential war against ISIS is over, it’s time to get back to business as usual, I suppose.

Newly constructed building at Islamabad International Airport starts caving in
Insh’allah. The question the pious ought to ask is why Allah should will such a thing.
[DAWN] RAW
... India's Research and Analysis Wing, Pakistain's equivalent of the Boogie Man...
ALPINDI: After the customs cargo (airfreight unit) building at the Islamabad International Airport (IIA) started caving in, the authorities have decided to shift all staff and workers to an alternative place.

Initially, small cracks appeared on the walls along with a leakage from the drain in the office of a senior officer and other rooms but the cracks started increasing day by day. A portion of the building is now caving in.

Senior officers of the customs department brought the issue to the notice of the airport manager and the project director of the IIA intimating them that the building was no longer safe for those working there.

Additional Collector Customs Nisar Ahmed told Dawn that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) would start shifting the office of the airfreight unit to another place, comprising two rooms, on Monday.

He confirmed that cracks in the building had widened and the building was caving in from one side making it no longer safe to work in.

The official said the airfreight unit office was shifted to the newly-constructed building on May 1, two days before the new airport was formally opened.

11 dead as gunfight sparks protests in Indian Kashmir: police
[PULSE.NG] Seven non-combatants were killed as Indian troops fired on protesters Saturday after a shootout left three armed rebels and a soldier dead in the disputed region of Kashmire, police and hospital officials said.

The fighting erupted soon after troops laid siege to a house in the southern Pulwama area in Indian-administered Kashmire where the bully boyz were hiding, a police officer said.

Three separatists -- including a former soldier who had joined the rebels -- were killed in the fighting, which also left a member of the security forces dead, senior police officer Swayam Prakash Pani told AFP.

While the shootout was in progress, hundreds of villagers poured out on to the streets in freezing cold and marched towards the house, shouting slogans in support of the bully boyz and throwing stones at the troops, witnesses said.

"It was mayhem. Six protesters died in the ensuing firing by soldiers," a police officer told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
Hospital officials said a seventh man died later of bullet injuries.

Saturday's bloodshed capped the deadliest year in the region since 2009, with nearly 550 killed so far including some 150 civilians, according to a monitoring group.

Security officials say some 230 bully boyz have been killed this year, most of them locals from the Kashmire valley, but rebel groups have recruited new members at a matching pace.

Popular support for the rebels and their cause has increased since the killing of a charismatic holy warrior leader in 2016.

Villagers, sometimes in their thousands, have been swarming sites of shootouts with government forces to help bully boyz escape from military cordons.

He further declined to give further details about the kaboom.

Three Iraqi police members killed in Anbar explosion

Ramadi (IraqiNews.com) Three Iraqi police members were killed on Saturday in a blast that hit their patrol in Iraq’s western province of Ramadi, media quoted security sources as saying.

Alsumaria News quoted the security source saying that an improvised explosive device (IED) hit a road security patrol in the city of Ramadi, killing and officer and two conscripts.

Iraqi police forces continue to hunt for remnant Islamic State extremists in Anbar, especially at the province’s desert areas where they sought shelter after the recapture of cities under their control in 2017.

The ISIS demon haunts Iraq again
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The government of Iraq announced December 10 a national holiday in which governmental institutions close to mark the first anniversary of defeating and expelling ISIS from the country. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
this is a bit misleading as ISIS has revived some of its activity in recent months in a number of areas from where it was expelled earlier. Statements about this activity is no longer limited to a number of journalists, security experts, political and civil activists, as even leaders of political blocs and influential parties have started issuing warnings against the dreaded terror group’s return.

Speaking at a presser recently, leader of Kurdistan Democratic Party Masoud Barzani warned that "the ISIS threat is not over and has returned to (some) areas in a way that’s worse than before." He said that it’s more dangerous than before, noting that the "organization strongly returned because the reasons that led to the rise of ISIS and al-Qaeda have not been resolved."

#1  Please read the Couter Terrorism Center's analysis of ISIS revival.

The upshot is that ISIS is leveling off from a steep decline and are reviving in Diyala, rural Kirkuk, and southern Niniveh. These are regions that ISIS never really controlled. In contrast, areas like Mosul, Tal Afar, and Anbar have resisted ISIS attempts to return.

One notable trend is setting up protection raquets
and kidnapping rings to earn money. They seem to be devolving into simple criminals (like FARC did in Colombia).

Ethnic violence in southern Ethiopia kills and wounds dozens
[Al Jazeera] At least 21 people have been killed in two days of intense fighting between ethnic groups in southern Æthiopia amid escalating violence that has sent hundreds fleeing across the border to neighbouring Kenya.

The violence broke out on Thursday and Friday near the town of Moyale, on the border with Kenya, in a region claimed by both the Oromo, the largest ethnic group in the country, and the Somali ethnic group.

The fighting also maimed 61 others, the state-affiliated Fana radio reported, citing the Oromia regional state communication office.

Outbreaks of violence in the south between Oromos and other groups escalated since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed - the first Oromo leader in Æthiopia's modern history - assumed office in April.

Iraq
Iraqi fighters: Hezbollah not to be left alone in war
[PRESSTV] An Iraqi anti-terror paramilitary group has pledged to stand by Hezbollah in the event of a war following recent Israeli operations near the Lebanese border.

"In the event of any war against Hezbollah, the movement is not going to be alone," Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba front man Hashim al-Mousawi told Iran's Tasnim news agency on Friday.

The group, simply known as Nujaba, is part of Hashd al-Sha'abi which is an umbrella counter-terrorism force gathering volunteer fighters from Iraq's various ethnic groups, including Shias, Sunnis and Christians.

In the event of an attack on Leb's Hezbollah, "all, including Nujaba, will be standing by its side," Mousawi said.

Israel has recently launched an operation to destroy what it claims tunnels dug by Hezbollah into the occupied territories.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned that Hezbollah would be dealt "unimaginable blows" if it confronted the operation.

Hezbollah’s deputy secretary general Sheikh Naim Qassem
... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
warned last week that there is no spot across Israel outside the range of the Lebanese resistance movement’s missiles.

"Israel is not capable of confronting Hezbollah’s missiles. The Paleostinian resistance is also advancing day by day. The resistance’s missile power is increasing," Mousawi said.

Photos of Khomeini, Khamenei inside an Iraqi official’s office spark controversy
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A picture of Baghdad council member , Ali Jaafar al-Alaq, has sparked a debate over the past couple of days between Iraqis on Twitter, even though it was captured from an old videotape.

Al- Alaq appeared in the picture sitting in his official office, in front of a small poster reading "Member of the Baghdad Provincial Council", while pictures of the two Iranian leaders Ali Khomeini and Ali Khamenei, were posed next to him , as well as a machine gun.

Iraqis took to social media to slam the official for glorifying foreign figures by putting their pictures in an office of the Iraqi state. One commentator wondered, "Is this not the biggest evidence of dependence on Iran?"

This comes two days after al-Alaq criticized the provincial council elections.

He claimed that the Baghdad council’s election, which was held on Wednesday, was headed by a member who is included in the de-Baathification process, noting that one third of the members of the council were not present at the meeting.

"The meeting was subject to constitutional violation and I will challenge it in the Federal Court," he added.

The provincial council of Baghdad has elected Fadhil al-Shuwaili as governor of Baghdad, succeeding Atwan al-Atwani, who became a member of parliament.

The Flynn Investigation: McCabe's Personal Retaliation?
Posted as a comment yesterday by Frank G
[American Thinker] As I noted here on June 30, 2017 Michael Flynn and Andrew McCabe have a past that predates the Trump presidency, one that provides ample motivation for the perjury trap that McCabe and James Comey set up after Flynn’s illegal unmasking. McCabe had a personal grudge against Flynn and the perjury trap was his revenge.

It explains why McCabe would entrap Flynn in a seemingly harmless interview about contacts with Flynn’s Russian counterparts, advising Flynn he didn’t need to bring a lawyer along to complicate things:

The federal judge who will sentence Lt.-Gen. Michael Flynn for lying to the FBI has ordered the FBI to give him, by today, the notes written by the two FBI agents who interviewed Flynn in January 2017.

Judge Emmet Sullivan also wants to see a January 24 memo that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe wrote about his own telephone conversation with Flynn, a conversation that happened just two hours before the FBI agents arrived at Flynn's West Wing office.

This follows information in Flynn's sentencing memo to the court, which suggests that Flynn was deliberately set up:

The sentencing memo says at 12:35 p.m. on January 24, 2017, McCabe called Flynn at his West Wing office to discuss a security training session the FBI had recently conducted at the white [sic] House. McCabe's written memo detailing that phone conversation says McCabe told Flynn "that we needed to have two of our agents sit down" with Flynn to talk about his communications with Russian officials.

McCabe wrote: "I explained that I thought the quickest way to get this done was to have a conversation between [General Flynn] and the agents only. I further stated that if LTG Flynn wished to include anyone else in the meeting, like the White House Counsel for instance, that I would need to involve the Department of Justice. [General Flynn] stated that this would not be necessary and agreed to meet with the agents without any additional participants."

To help cover up the setup, it also appears that multiple 302s, or FBI interview summaries, were created:

ISIS leaflets containing detailed terror attack plans found in Libya
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Libyan security authorities found leaflets containing plans by the ISIS bully boy group to carry out terrorist bombings targeting state headquarters, in addition to written threats to assassinate a number of security and military officials.

According to a statement released on Friday by the media office of the security directorate of the interim government’s interior ministry in al-Rajban city, the publications belonging to ISIS were found in a coffee shop, including threats to blow up and sabotage al-Zintan airport. It also had detailed plans to bomb the headquarters of security directorates, cop shoppes and other security services such as internal and external security and intelligence, in addition to assassinating security and military officials.

The statement did not specify the method of execution that ISIS planned to use in the alleged planned bombing, but since the emergence of the bully boy group in Libya, it has adopted methods based on boom-mobiles or jacket wallahs in its attacks.

Accordingly, Rajban’s security directorate announced a state of high alert and appealed to all police members to absent from work in all cities as well as military personnel who are not stationed to join their ranks and carry out their duties in order to maintain stability and security.

ISIS, which is still active in southern and central Libya, announced this year that it was responsible for several major terrorist attacks in various parts of Libya that killed dozens, namely security personnel.

Arrests made as French 'yellow vests' protest for fifth Saturday
[Al Jazeera] Thousands of "yellow vest" protesters erupted into the streets of French cities on Saturday in the fifth weekend of demonstrations against Emmanuel Macron's government, ignoring calls to stay home.

Some scuffles broke out on Saturday in central Gay Paree between protesters and police after nearly 4,000 people came out in the capital, raising anti-government slogans and blocking traffic.

Riot police fired tear gas and sprayed the protesters to disperse them. Police said they tossed in the slammer
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
more than 100 people, Rooters news agency reported, citing a Gay Paree police official.

About 8,000 police and 14 armoured vehicles were deployed in Gay Paree after similar protests in recent weekends turned violent.

The Interior Minister said around 69,000 police were active on Saturday with a reinforced presence in Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
, Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne.

Official figures said 66,000 protesters had been counted in La Belle France by 17:00 GMT, compared to 126,000 at the same time a week before.

President Macron, facing the biggest crisis of his presidency, announced a series of concessions on Monday to defuse the "yellow vest" movement, which sprang up in rural and small-town La Belle France last month.

Ukraine creates new Orthodox church independent from Russia
[Al Jazeera] A council of Orthodox bishops has created a new Ukrainian church, marking an historic split from Russia which its leaders see as vital to the country's security and independence.

The announcement on Saturday came after Ukrainian priests held a synod in capital Kiev's 11th-century Saint Sophia Cathedral to establish an Orthodox church independent from Moscow.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced that 39-year-old Metropolitan Epifaniy of the Kiev Patriarchate church is the head of the new church. His secular name is Sergiy Dumenko.

"This day will go down in history as a sacred day ... the day of the final independence from Russia," Poroshenko told thousands of supporters, who shouted "Glory! Glory! Glory!"

"I would like to call on all our brothers, bishops and all believers to the newly created united Ukrainian Orthodox Church," Yepifaniy told the crowd outside the cathedral.

"The doors of our church are open to all."

'MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY'
The newly formed community is now expected to receive independence from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Istanbul-based institution considered the so-called "first among equals" of leaders of the world's Orthodox Churches.

Poroshenko said he would travel with Epifaniy to Istanbul in January to receive an official Tomos from the head of global Orthodoxy granting the new church independence.

Poroshenko, who has made the creation of a new church a key campaign issue before elections next year, told the bishops that the state "did everything it could" towards the creation of the church.

"Ukraine was not, is not, and will not be the canonical territory of the Russian church," Poroshenko said, adding that an independent Ukrainian Orthodox Church was now a "matter of national security".

[Dhaka Tribune] BNP leader Mirza Abbas and his supporters have been attacked allegedly by ruling Awami League activists during his election campaign in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area.

Egypt's Sisi orders building of church in new Ahalina 2 city
[AlAhram] Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ordered on Saturday the establishment of a church in the new city of "Ahalina 2" in El-Salam city on the outskirts of Cairo.

On Saturday, El-Sisi inspected the sites of a number of national projects including a wastewater treatment plant in Qalioubiya and several housing projects aimed at combating informal settlements.

El-Sisi's comments were directed to Major General Emad Ahmed El-Ghazali, the Commander of the Central Military Region who was giving a presentation on the landscape of the newly constructed city.

During the presentation, El-Sisi asked El-Ghazali whether there were any further plans to build another church in Ahalina 1, to which he answered: "No".

"This is an order, it's a matter that we should not forget once more ... everyone shall worship," El-Sisi then replied.

The commander said that a plan for a church in Ahalina 2 will be implemented though.

El-Sisi said on several occasions that Egypt was determined to go ahead with plans to build churches in new neighbourhoods.

Article 64 of the Egyptian constitution stipulates the freedom of religious practice and the right to build places of worship for the followers of the Abrahamic faiths: Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

In 2016, El-Sisi ratified a law that speeds up the licensing process for building churches.

Prior to the 2016 law, the Egyptian Coptic Christians, who make up an estimated 10 percent of the country's 100 million population, had long struggled to obtain building permits for churches, with the process often taking years.

Egypt prosecutors investigating Minya killing of two Copts by police sergeant after 'altercation'
[AlAhram] Egypt’s general prosecution is investigating the murder of two Copts by a police sergeant who was guarding a church in Upper Egypt’s Minya this week.

In a statement, the prosecution a father and his adult son, identified as Emad Kamal and David Emad Kamal, were both shot by a police sergeant assigned to guard the Church of Nahdet El-Qadasa.

The statement said the Kamals were killed due to a "verbal altercation."

The prosecution’s statement is the first acknowledgement of the killings by the state since Archbishop Makarios of Minya released a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement by the vocal head of the local diocese, police sergeant Rabie Mostafa Khalifa killed the Kamals, who were removing debris next to the church, due to a "conflict."

In a series of tweets that followed, he called for an intervention by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, describing the incident as one which is "more dangerous than [that of] Saint Samuel Monastery," referencing a terrorist attack in which gunnies killed seven Copts on their way back from the monastery in November.

"Saint Samuel....was carried out by enemies of all of us. Yesterday’s attack was one carried out by a member of the interior ministry...someone who is assigned to guard people and institutions," he wrote.

Coptic Christians make up around 10 to 15 percent of Egypt's 104 million-strong population.

Coptic churches and other targets have been the target of deadly terrorist attacks in recent years, leaving dozens dead.

Civilians, including children, 'killed in Afghan forces strike'
[Al Jazeera] At least 20 Afghan civilians, including 12 children, were killed in an air raid targeting a Taliban

commander'>Taliban Überstürmbannführer in Afghanistan's eastern province of Kunar, local officials said.

Friday's attack, against a local Taliban Überstürmbannführer named Sharif Mawiya, was the latest in a series of operations targeting senior field commanders.

Several Taliban Überstürmbannführers have been killed since the beginning of December by Afghan forces, backed by US advisers and air power but the tactic has also increased the risk of civilian casualties.

Abdul Latif Fazly, a member of the provincial council, said eight women and 12 children were killed and more than 15 civilians maimed in the incident late on Friday.

Kunar governor Abdul Satar Mirzakwal said an operation by Afghan forces in the Sheltan district killed 38 Taliban and al-Qaeda members, including four foreign nationals, and maimed 12 more.

He said the operation targeted Sharif Mawiya, a commander believed to be a controller with the al-Qaeda group.

He said an unknown number of civilians were hit in the bombing but had no casualty details.

"We know that a number of civilians, including women and kiddies, have been killed but we are sending a fact-finding team," he said.

-Land of the Free
The best way to undermine the Bill of Rights
[WND] "We will use the freedoms of the Constitution to destroy the Constitution" ‐ was a sign held by Muslim demonstrators in Dearborn, Michigan, reported Dr. Irwin Lutzer in "The Cross in the Shadow of the Crescent" (2013).

Sharia organizer Anjem Choudary of Islam4UK declared (London Daily Express, Oct. 15, 2009): "We have had enough of democracy and man-made law. ... We will call for a complete upheaval of the British ruling system ... and demand full implementation of Sharia in Britain."

Dwight Eisenhower warned of this (Time magazine, Oct. 13, 1952): "The Bill of Rights contains no grant of privilege for a group of people to destroy the Bill of Rights. A group ... dedicated to the ultimate destruction of all civil liberties, cannot be allowed to claim civil liberties as its privileged sanctuary from which to carry on subversion of the Government."

Lawmakers are increasingly faced with the dilemma ‐ should freedom of speech be for groups whose ultimate goal is to censor and eliminate freedom of speech? Should freedom of religion be extended to those with an agenda and track record of abolishing freedom of religion? Should "sharia-practicing" Muslims and enforcers of novel sexual agendas be allowed to demand freedoms for themselves ‐ while bullying and intimidating others into surrendering their freedoms?

Employing the tactic of "psychological projection," intolerant groups accuse their opponents of what they are guilty of. Hateful organizations even post on their websites the lists of those they hate.

Is Western Civilization committing "assisted suicide" ‐ with activist "politically-correct" judges and elitist, deep-state bureaucrats usurping power from the people?

Brothers ‘kill’ mentally-challenged sister to ‘rid family of evil forces’
She's "dead" now.
[DAWN] TAXILA: Two brothers were on Friday taken into custody by the police for burying their mentally-disabled sister alive in a well in their house

on the directives of the local spiritual healer to rid the family of evil forces.

Shabana, 38, and a resident of Banni Mohallah near Christian Hospital, had not been seen since Dec 4.

Shabana’s elder brother, Mohammad Imran, who lives separately, lodged a complaint with the police about his sister’s unexplained disappearance.

On Friday, the victim’s mother called her brother, Abdul Lateef, saying she had been locked in a room by her two sons, Mohammad Farhan and Mohammad Kamran, and that she had managed to break out of the room.

Abdul Lateef came to his sister’s aid and also informed his nephew, Mohammad Imran. The victim’s mother told her brother and son that her daughter had been buried alive in the well in the house.

Imran then informed the local police about the crime.

Rescue 1122 was called to retrieve the body but the operation was abandoned when the oxygen supply was exhausted and it got dark.

Rescue 1122 officer Adeel Ahmed said the operation will resume on Saturday after more oxygen cylinders are brought in.

Investigation Officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shahzad told mediapersons that both the suspects were taken into custody. He said the two brothers had confessed to killing their sister on the directives of the local spiritual healer, who had told them that evil forces have descended on her which also affected their family. The spiritual healer had advised they kill her in order to rid the family of evil forces.

Houthi militias loot Hodeidah port ahead of agreed withdrawal
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sources said that Houthi

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias have looted equipment, documents and goods owned by traders and investors in the port of Hodeidah ahead of an agreed-upon withdrawal from the city.

Foodstuffs, cars, supplies and other items that were on their way through the port were also stolen by the Houthis, sources confirmed.

Sources said that in the past three weeks, the city of Hodeidah has witnessed systematic plundering of government institutions as militias have replaced their uniforms with military ones, concealed their military vehicles and replaced them with other military colors as camouflage.

The looting comes two days after the signing of an agreement between the legitimate Yemeni government and the Houthis in Sweden, which provides for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of militias from the city and its ports, in addition to allowing access to aid to Taiz, which has been surrounded by Houthi militias for years.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Report: IDF undercover troops arrest relative of Ofra shooter
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian media says soldiers nab Muhammad Maher Barghouti, whose family member Salih Omar Barghouti was killed Wednesday during an attempt to arrest him.

Israeli undercover soldiers on Saturday night placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a Paleostinian with ties to the suspected terrorist in Sunday’s shooting attack outside the Ofra settlement, Paleostinian media reported.

Paleostinian reports said Muhammad Maher Barghouti was arrested in the West Bank village of Kobar, near Ramallah.

Barghouti is a relative of Salih Omar Barghouti, who was shot and killed Wednesday evening after he tried to attack troops while escaping arrest. Salih Barghouti, a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", member, is believed to have been behind a shooting outside Ofra Sunday in which seven people were maimed. That attack led to the death of a baby boy who was delivered prematurely after his mother was critically hurt in the attack.

There was no immediate Israeli confirmation of the arrest.

Barghouti came from a family with extensive terrorist ties, including a father and uncle who were convicted of murdering an Israeli soldier in 1978. The uncle, Nael Barghouti, is one of the longest-serving Paleostinian prisoners in Israel’s history.

On Thursday a senior Israel Defense Forces commander indicated that the same Hamas terror cell carried out the Ofra shooting and a shooting outside the Givat Assaf outpost in which two IDF soldiers were killed and two other people were seriously injured.

Earlier Saturday the IDF demolished the family home of a Paleostinian man charged with killing Israeli soldier Staff Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky earlier this year.

The IDF detonated explosives in the four-story building inhabited by the family of Islam Yusef Abu Hamid in the al-Am’ari refugee camp close to Ramallah.

Mahmoud al-Aloul, deputy chairman of the Fatah party, expressed support for Hamid’s family and said the Paleostinian Authority would pay for the home to be rebuilt, the Walla news site reported.

Hamid killed Staff Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky, a member of the elite Duvdevan unit, by dropping a marble slab on his head from a neighboring home during an IDF raid in May at the al-Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah, according to the charge sheet.

Israel says the practice of demolishing terrorists’ homes is an effective means of discouraging future attacks, though it has been criticized by human rights

groups as a form of collective punishment and by some analysts as an ineffective deterrent measure.

Also Saturday a Paleostinian man who stabbed an Israeli soldier and hit him in the head with a rock Friday at a West Bank military post, seriously injuring him, turned himself in to Israeli security forces, Israel’s Shin Bet security agency said.

Palestinian assailant who seriously wounded soldier turns himself in

[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man who stabbed an Israeli soldier and hit him in the head with a rock Friday at a West Bank military post, seriously injuring him, turned himself in to Israeli security forces Saturday, Israel’s Shin Bet security agency said.

The agency said the man had surrendered thanks to the "continuous and concerted operational efforts" by the IDF and the Shin Bet in the West Bank over the weekend.

The suspect was taken in for questioning.

The attack occurred at a military post outside the Beit El settlement in the central West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces said a fight broke out between the two after the Paleostinian attacker broke into the military position near Beit El, outside Ramallah, where Israeli forces have been searching for the terrorist who committed a shooting attack on Thursday, killing two soldiers and seriously injuring a third serviceman and a civilian woman.

The assailant stabbed the soldier and struck him with a rock, the army said. He then expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, prompting a manhunt.

The 21-year-old soldier, Naveh Rotem, was taken to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem at death's door, unconscious and hooked up to a ventilator. Doctors said he was in life-threatening condition.

On Saturday doctors said Rotem’s condition had improved and stabilized and he was listed in moderate condition.

The attack took place close to the site of Thursday’s deadly terror shooting at a bus stop near the Givat Assaf outpost.

Turkey FM vows to continue strikes in Iraq if PKK isn't removed
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded on Saturday that it will continue to do what is required to combat the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) presence in Iraq, if Baghdad continues to allow the group to remain.

In a statement regarding the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs decision to summon Ottoman Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yildiz on Thursday, Ankara argued that Iraq is constitutionally obligated to prevent the use of its land as a base for attacks on neighboring countries.

"Activities of PKK terror group on Iraqi and Syrian soils have been a national security issue for Turkey," said Ottoman Turkish FM spokesperson Hami Aksoy, according to Anadolu Agency.

Ottoman Turkish jets bombed alleged PKK positions in Makhmour and Mount Shingal (also known as Sinjar) on Thursday night. Funerals were held on Friday.

More than 20 warplanes, accompanied by drones and refueling aircraft, went 165 kilometres into Iraqi territory, hitting the Mount Qarachogh area in Makhmour for the first time, the ministry announced on Friday.

Three women and a 14-year-old girl were killed in the Arclight airstrike on Makhmour, where more than 12,000 Kurdish political refugees from Turkey are sheltering.

"These counter-terror operations will continue as long as Turkey’s security needs require and terror organizations exist in Iraqi soils," the Ottoman Turkish front man added.

Yildiz was summoned, Baghdad argued, because the attacks were a violation of Iraqi illusory sovereignty and the security of its citizens were at risk.

The PKK is headquartered in the mountains of Qandil which straddle the border of Iraq, Turkey, and Iran.

Turkey has previously called the political refugee camp in Makhmour a "breeding ground for terrorists." PKK-linked elements reportedly remain active in Shingal. Earlier this year, then PM Haider al-Abadi called on all imported muscle to leave Shingal.

"Every kind of support is being given to Iraq in its fight against terror organizations. Same understanding and concrete cooperation are expected from Iraq," Aksoy added.

Despite Baghdad’s objections, they have little ability to stop Turkey, which carries out forays into Iraqi territory on a near daily basis.

The International Crisis Group has tracked casualties since a ceasefire stalled between PKK and the Ottoman Turkish state in July 2015.

According to their statistics last updated on December 10, 4,226 people in Turkey have been killed in festivities ‐ that includes: 2,400 PKK fighters, 1,138 state security forces, 465 civilians, and 223 youth of unknown affiliation.
The PKK has fought a nearly four-decade, sometimes-armed struggle against the Ottoman Turkish state seeking greater political, minority, and cultural rights.

The Ottoman Turkish FM further argued that they are justified to the right of self-defense per Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The Iraqi FM has not released a statement since the announcement to summon the ambassador.

#1  its a shame the PKK hasnt realized that they can get a lot better press if they would simply renounce Communism and say they were fighting for an "open and free society" and "self determination" against "Turkish ethnic cleansing and racism".

Little bit of PR goes a long way.

The whole Turkish-US alliance was based on the Kemalists, the Cold War and the Soviet Union. All are gone now, so the PKK has no need for Communism to curry support from the Soviets, and the US has no need for Turkey to be propped up against Turkish delusions of empire.

Europe
Is Strasbourg really a hotbed for violent Islamist extremists?
[TheLocal.fr] After the deadly Christmas market terrorist attack, there have been claims that the eastern city of Strasbourg and the area around it houses more Islamist Death Eaters than elsewhere in La Belle France. But is this really true?

Since the attacks, claims that the city and the Bas-Rhin department has more individuals known as 'fiche S' - essentially a French watchlist of people who represent a potential threat to national security, often just referred to as a terror watchlist - than the national average have been all over the French media.

The claims seem to come from the mayor of the city Roland Ries.

"It's true that we have statistically more 'fichés S' here in Strasbourg and in the Bas-Rhin department than the national average", the mayor of Strasbourg Roland Ries told La Belle France Inter on Friday when discussing why Strasbourg was the target of the latest terror attack to hit La Belle France.

A figure quoted several times by the city's mayor after the attack and in the media spoke of 10% of La Belle France's 'fiche S' criminals being found in Strasbourg and the Bas-Rhin department.

Another reason why there has been a focus on Islamist Death Eaters around the eastern region is that individuals from the Bas-Rhin department have made headlines in recent years for either travelling in groups to Syria to fight Jihad or playing a role in previous terror attacks in the country such as the attack on the Bataclan and this year's knife attack in the Opera area of Gay Paree.

The claims were used to suggest the city that borders Germany and its surrounding area was a breeding ground for potential jihadists.

But a closer look at statistics appears to show this isn't quite the case.

There are 26,000 individuals on the 'Fiche S' list in La Belle France.

Those included the 29-year-old gunman Cherif Chekatt who fired the crowd in the Strasbourg Christmas market and then hid in the city before being rubbed out by police in the Neudorf district on Thursday. Many others who have carried out terror attacks in La Belle France in recent years have also been on the Fiche S list.

Some of the individuals listed are radicalised like Chekatt was, but not all. The list also includes hooligans, anarchists and other people deemed to be a danger to national security.

French authorities don't release the figures for the number of 'fiche S' criminals for specific parts of La Belle France, so it is impossible to know whether or not there are more in the Bas-Rhin.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
since 2015, radicalised individuals have also been added to another watchlist called FSPRT, which has roughly 18,000 people on it. Chekatt was down on both lists.

This is probably where the confusion began.

The Bas-Rhin counts 224 people on the FSPRT watchlist, 110 of whom live in Strasbourg. While those figures are higher than the greater region of the Grand Est that encompasses Strasbourg and the Bas-Rhin, they are in fact lower than the national average.

"If you compare those figures nationally, they are 15.6 for 100 000 inhabitants and 13.2 for the inhabitants of the Bas-Rhin," Le Gay Pareeien reported.

The highest concentration of people on those lists is mostly found in the departments containing La Belle France's biggest cities.

So it seems that Strasbourg and the area around it doesn't house more dangerous or radicalised Islamist Death Eaters than other parts of La Belle France, despite what the city's mayor has claimed.

Sears gets approval to pay $25.3 million in bonuses to top execs after filing for bankruptcy
[The Hill] A U.S. bankruptcy court on Friday reportedly approved Sears’ request to pay as much as $25.3 million in bonuses to the company’s top executives and high-ranking employees, just months after the company filed for bankruptcy.

The company behind Sears, Hoffman Estates-based Sears Holdings Corp, argued it needed to give employees such a financial incentive to encourage them to remain with the company as it works to rebuild, despite it reporting nearly $1.9 billion in losses in the first three quarters of this year, CBS News reported.

"Under these circumstances, it would be understandable if many key employees are asking themselves whether they should be seeking other opportunities," the company said in a court filing in November, according to the publication.

But the company "cannot afford this uncertainty ‐ however understandable it may be," the filing also reportedly states.

The company’s proposal will reportedly offer bonuses to 19 executives amounting to up to $8.4 million over the next six months if the company is successful in hitting certain financial goals.

The employees would also be eligible for more money in bonuses if the retailer is in a position to hit those financial targets when sold, an attorney for the company reportedly said at the hearing.

Sears announced in October that it was forced to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which allows it to restructure its finances, after it failed to pay a $134 million debt payment that was due at the time.

China-Japan-Koreas
All natural: Cockroaches corralled by the millions in China to crunch food waste
[AlAhram] Researchers are also looking into using cockroach extract in beauty masks, diet pills and even hair-loss treatments.

In the near pitch-dark, you can hear them before you see them - millions of cockroaches scuttling and fluttering across stacks of wooden boards as they devour food scraps by the tonne in a novel form of urban waste disposal.

The air is warm and humid - just as cockroaches like it - to ensure the colonies keep their health and voracious appetites.

Expanding Chinese cities are generating more food waste than they can accommodate in landfills, and cockroaches could be a way to get rid of hills of food scraps, providing nutritious food for livestock when the bugs eventually die and, some say, cures for stomach illness and beauty treatments.

On the outskirts of Jinan, capital of eastern Shandong province, a billion cockroaches are being fed with 50 tonnes of kitchen waste a day - the equivalent in weight to seven adult elephants.

The waste arrives before daybreak at the plant run by Shandong Qiaobin Agricultural Technology Co, where it is fed through pipes to cockroaches in their cells.

Shandong Qiaobin plans to set up three more such plants next year, aiming to process a third of the kitchen waste produced by Jinan, home to about seven million people.

A nationwide ban on using food waste as pig feed due to African swine fever outbreaks is also spurring the growth of the cockroach industry.

"Cockroaches are a bio-technological pathway for the converting and processing of kitchen waste," said Liu Yusheng, president of Shandong Insect Industry Association.

Cockroaches are also a good source of protein for pigs and other livestock. "It’s like turning trash into resources," said Shandong Qiaobin chairwoman Li Hongyi.

"ESSENCE OF COCKROACH"
In a remote village in Sichuan, Li Bingcai, 47, has similar ideas.

Li, formerly a mobile phone vendor, has invested a million yuan ($146,300) in cockroaches, which he sells to pig farms and fisheries as feed and to drug companies as medicinal ingredients.

His farm now has 3.4 million cockroaches.

"People think it’s strange that I do this kind of business," Li said. "It has great economic value, and my goal is to lead other villagers to prosperity if they follow my lead."

His village has two farms. Li’s goal is to create 20.

Elsewhere in Sichuan, a company called Gooddoctor is rearing six billion cockroaches.

"The essence of cockroach is good for curing oral and peptic ulcers, skin wounds and even stomach cancer," said Wen Jianguo, manager of Gooddoctor’s cockroach facility.

Researchers are also looking into using cockroach extract in beauty masks, diet pills and even hair-loss treatments.

At Gooddoctor, when cockroaches reach the end of their lifespan of about six months, they are blasted by steam, washed and dried, before being sent to a huge nutrient extraction tank.

Asked about the chance of the cockroaches escaping, Wen said that would be worthy of a disaster movie but that he has taken precautions.

"We have a moat filled with water and fish," he said. "If the cockroaches escape, they will fall into the moat and the fish will eat them all."

(JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah for allegedly delivering a provocative speech.

Mufti Kifayatullah ‐ formerly leader of the opposition in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly ‐ was taken into custody after he attended a religious conference organised by Wifaqul Madaris al-Arabia in the Hazro area at Nartopa village.

Briton appealing Turkey terror sentence flees to UK: report
[Rudaw] LONDON, England, A former British soldier sentenced in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
for alleged links to a Kurdish militia in Syria has fled to Britannia, the BBC quoted him as saying on Friday.

Joe Robinson, 25, said he had "made the hard decision to take the matter into my own hands", according to the broadcaster.

Robinson was placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
last year while holidaying in Turkey after he posted photos of himself in camouflage next to fighters from the People's Protection Units (YPG) in Syria.

A court in the western city of Aydin in September sentenced him to seven-and-a-half years in prison for "membership of a terrorist organization," the private DHA news agency said.

Robinson did not attend the trial for health reasons, DHA said. He was held in jug in Turkey for four months but was on bail pending an appeal.

He has previously said he provided medical assistance in Syria.

"In Syria I managed to help civilians, and save lives. That, I believe, is no act of terrorism," he said.

The YPG is an ally of the United States in the fight against the Islamic State

group in Syria. But Ankara is hostile to the YPG, viewing it as a "terrorist offshoot" of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, which has been waging an insurgency in Turkey since 1984.

Robinson's Bulgarian fiancee, arrested along with him, was also sentenced to nearly two years in jail in September for "terrorist propaganda," but she is currently in Britannia, DHA said.

According to UK press reports, Robinson served with British armed forces in Afghanistan in 2012 and went to Syria in 2015 to work in the YPG's health unit.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
As one Palestinian family’s history shows, home demolitions won’t stop attacks
The editorialist misses a key point, I think: money spent on rebuilding demolished houses is money unavailable for other things, like financing future terrorism, and so the demolitions have strategic value even if the tactic itself is a wash. Interesting facts culled from a longer, and more emotional piece.
[IsraelTimes] The Abu Hamid family, whose home was demolished by the Israeli military early Saturday, has a long history of involvement in attacks on Israeli security forces.

In 1991, the Israel Defense Forces destroyed the family’s home in the al-Amari refugee camp near Ramallah over the involvement of one of the brothers ‐ Nasser, a Fatah member ‐ in terrorism. That house was later rebuilt... before being demolished again Saturday.

In 1994 another brother, Abdul Munim Abu Hamid, along with two Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, members, killed Shin Bet agent Noam Cohen. Abdul himself was killed a few months later.

Nasser Abu Hamid, upon his release from prison, became a founder of Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades at the start of the Second Intifada and in April 2002 was incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
by the IDF during Operation Defensive Shield, not far from the family home.

Other brothers would also spend time in Israeli prisons over the years, among them Islam Yusef Abu Hamid.

During an operation of the elite Duvdevan unit in al-Amari in May, he is said to have thrown a marble slab from a roof at Israeli forces, killing Staff Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky ‐ and leading to the razing of the family home early Saturday.

THE SOUND AND THE FURY
The family’s history shows that home demolitions are, unfortunately, highly unlikely to deter would-be attackers.

Although some seem to believe destroying assailants’ homes is a comprehensive solution to preventing terrorism, the case of the Abu Hamid family shows that not only do they not prevent attacks ‐ they can sometimes even fuel motivation for Dire Revenge.

The Abu Hamid home will be rebuilt within a few years, likely with Paleostinian Authority funding, as one Fatah leader has said.

Even if the Fatah money is not forthcoming, someone else ‐ perhaps Hamas ‐ will provide the funds.

There is no magical solution for preventing attacks on Israeli citizens and soldiers, and anyone who holds up house demolitions as the ultimate means to do so is either mistaken or deliberately misleading others. It is an excellent way of soothing the families of the victims and an Israeli public out for Dire Revenge, but nothing more than that.

At the height of the suicide kaboom wave of 2003, three years after the start of the Second Intifada, a report was drawn up by the IDF on the policy of home demolitions, a practice that had received an official green light in the summer of 2002. Hundreds of terrorists’ family homes had since been destroyed.

But the report determined there was no evidence that the demolitions had a deterrent effect and that furthermore, the number of attacks actually rose a few months after the implementation of the policy.

In early 2005, a committee appointed by then-IDF chief of staff Moshe Ya’alon and headed by Gen. Udi Shani recommended ending the razing of homes on the grounds that they were not proven to be a deterrent, and declared that the damage outweighed any benefit.

While Israelis in recent years have become used to a rather low number of attacks, the lava in the volcano that is the West Bank continues to bubble beneath the surface. The Shin Bet and IDF can attest to this, having prevented hundreds of attacks over the past year ‐ sometimes with the close cooperation of the Paleostinian Authority’s security services.

#5  Although some seem to believe destroying assailants’ homes is a comprehensive solution

Nice straw man, scarecrow! I doubt anyone actually believes that. A comprehensive solution would be repeated carpet bombing until the miscreants grow tired of their ways.

While we're at it, let's give the "collective punishment" meme a kick in the groin. The idea of knocking down a family home as punishment for the crimes of an individual seems strange to us in the West because we regard the individual as the basic element of society. Not so in clan-based societies. There, honor killings make sense because the woman has reduced the clan's reputation. Marrying a cousin makes sense because it keeps wealth inside the clan and doesn't drag the group into someone else's feuds. It is a different way of looking at the world. If it doesn't affect the clan, it doesn't really matter.

Iraq
Nobel laureate Murad to build hospital with prize money in Iraq
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Nadia Murad, an Iraqi Yazidi woman held as a sex slave by ISIS bully boyz who won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, said on Friday she intended to use the prize money to build a hospital for victims of sexual abuse in her hometown.

The Yazidi survivor was speaking to a crowd of hundreds in Sinjar, her hometown in northern Iraq.

"With the money I got from the Nobel Peace prize, I will build a hospital in Sinjar to treat ill people, mainly widows and women who were exposed to sexual abuses by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bad boys," she told the crowd and gathered journalists.

She thanked the Iraqi and Kurdistan governments for agreeing to her plan and said she would be contacting humanitarian organizations "soon" to start construction.

Murad was awarded the $1 million prize alongside Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.

She was one of about 7,000 women and girls captured in northwest Iraq in August 2014 and held by Islamic State in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, where she was tortured and raped.

She escaped after three months and reached Germany, from where she campaigned extensively to appeal for support for the Yazidi community.

The Yazidi area in Sinjar had previously been home to about 400,000 people, mostly Yazidis and Arab Sunnis.

In a matter of days, more than 3,000 Yazidis were killed and about 6,800 kidnapped, either sold into slavery or conscripted to fight for Islamic State as the religious minority came under attack.

EU urges Turkey to refrain from ‘unilateral’ Syria move

’s foreign policy chief on Saturday asked The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

to forgo any unilateral military action in Syria, where Ankara has threatened a fresh offensive against a US-backed Kurdish militia.

"The statements of a possible Ottoman Turkish military operation in northeast Syria are a source of concern," Federica Mogherini said in a statement.

"We share the goal of ending violence, defeating terrorism and promoting stability in Syria and the wider region. We expect the Ottoman Turkish authorities therefore to refrain from any unilateral action likely to undermine the efforts of the Counter-ISIS Coalition or to risk further instability in Syria," she said, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS krazed killer group.

President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said Wednesday that Turkey will launch a new operation in Syria within days against Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia, which have Washington’s support but which Ankara considers a terrorist group.

The Pentagon warned Wednesday that any unilateral military action in northern Syria would be "unacceptable".

Mogherini, calling Turkey "a critically important actor in this crisis and in the region", said that "as the fight against ISIS is entering its final stages, all parties must work towards the goal of ensuring its upcoming defeat".

Abu death toll in Sulu encounter climbs to seven
[PhilStar] Philippine authorities yesterday confirmed that the Abu Sayyaf death toll in a recent clash in Patikul, Sulu has increased to seven from three as earlier reported. The encounter on Minis Island on December 13 also left a Marine trooper dead and three others injured.

Ten rebels were captured in a pursuit operation in a mangrove area where the fighting erupted, according to Rear Admiral Rene Medina, commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM). He said the Navy’s BRP Juan Magluyan and BRP Waray were deployed to reinforce the pursuing troops and prevent the insurgents from escaping.

Medina attributed the success of the military operation to the cooperation between the military and the local officials as well as the villagers.

[PRESSTV] Recent video footage has been published on social media networks, showing members of the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorist group abandoning their commander and fleeing for their lives while fighting the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeastern Syria.

The video, which has been filmed with a forehead camera, shows several ISIS Lions of Islam in an open terrain near the town of Hajin, which lies in the Abu Kamal district of the eastern Syrian province of Dayr al-Zawr, firing indiscriminate shots at the US-backed forces.

One of the terrorists, identified by the nom de guerre Abu Aisha, faces his commander Abu Ayman al-Iraqi, and urges him to order fellow Takfiris to retreat.

Iraqi, in return, refuses and commands ISIS Lions of Islam to carry on fighting.

The Lions of Islam at last decide to abandon their commander and escape from the area onboard a military vehicle.

Iraqi, who is badly injured in the fierce exchange of gunfire with Kurdish-led forces, died of his gunshot wounds hours later.

On Friday, the SDF succeeded in capturing the entire town of Hajin, which served as one of the last ISIS strongholds in eastern Syria.

#1  le Wiki: The Battle of Blood River

The Battle of Blood River is the name given for the battle fought between 470 Voortrekkers ("Pioneers"), led by Andries Pretorius, and an estimated "10 000 to 15 000" Zulu on the bank of the Ncome River on 16 December 1838, in what is today KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Casualties amounted to over 3,000 of king Dingane's soldiers dead, including two Zulu princes competing with Prince Mpande for the Zulu throne. Three Pioneer commando members were lightly wounded, including Pretorius himself.

Interesting story. Worth a read.
