[Daily Caller] The winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize for literature says he has fulfilled a pre-election promise to cut up his green card and leave the United States if Donald Trump was elected president.
"I have already done it, I have disengaged [from the United States]. I have done what I said I would do," Wole Soyinka, an 82-year-old Nigerian poet and playwright, told Agence France-Presse at an education conference in South Africa on Thursday.
"I had a horror of what is to come with Trump... I threw away the [green] card, and I have relocated, and I’m back to where I have always been," he added.
Soyinka, who recently completed a stint as a scholar in residence at New York University, made his pledge to cut up his green card -- which provides permanent legal residence status -- just days before the Nov. 8 election.

Bolton would be the piece that fits the puzzle. And when done, gird your spines and loins as it will mean we're finally serious about addressing the jihadi issue, particularly on the domestic front.

Needs a law from Congress to grant him a waiver from the long-standing prohibition of someone less than seven years after active duty service from assuming that position. Such a law might be filibustered.

Good. Mattis to make Defense into warriors again. Session to clean up the SJW in Justice. Now get Bolton to clean out the State Dept and we are well on the way to rolling back Obama's damage.
A top union leader lashed out at AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka for sending out an endorsement ballot for chair of the Democratic National Committee that listed the name of only one candidate.
"A single name on the ballot more resembles an attempt at a coronation in a totalitarian regime rather than an election within the House of Labor," Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, wrote in an email to Trumka sent late Wednesday.
The ballot, sent Wednesday to members of the AFL-CIO's Executive Committee, provided three options: to endorse Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.); to abstain; or to "make no endorsement at this time." Omitted were South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison; New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley; and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, all declared candidates.
Also absent were two prospective candidates reportedly favored by the White House: Labor Secretary Tom Perez and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
The voting began Nov. 30 and continues until Dec. 6. The DNC will choose its new chair at its winter meeting in Atlanta, Feb. 23-26.
Schaitberger, whose union lies at the more conservative end of the labor movement, wrote that Trumka's attempt to "pre-ordain the result by including only a single candidate on the ballot is contemptible."
Ellison has been endorsed by a number of top labor groups. In a memo to the Executive Board that POLITICO reported on Wednesday, Trumka signaled a clear preference for Ellison, citing those endorsements and noting that a "strong majority" favored Ellison in a previous straw poll of the board's Political Committee.
"Your memo notes that both New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley and South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison took time out of their busy schedules on very short notice ... to attend and address the Political Committee," Schaitberger wrote. "Yet, you failed to give either Mr. Buckley or Mr. Harrison the common courtesy of a place on the ballot because of your own personal bias for Representative Ellison."
Schaitberger also noted that Trumka acknowledged that other potential DNC candidates had contacted him and Executive Council members, including "our very good friend Secretary Tom Perez," to talk about the race. Perez has been mulling running for either DNC chair or Maryland governor.
"This causes me great concern that those who may call into question the integrity of our labor movement will now have more ammunition to use against us when we are in the trenches," Schaitberger wrote, "fighting to protect the hard won gains our members have earned through the years."
And they wonder why so many blue collar union workers voted Trump this year.
The Senate voted on Thursday to extend American sanctions against Iran for a decade, sending to President Obama a measure that supporters said would help ensure that the United States could fully respond if Iran were to violate its obligations under the nuclear agreement. It appears when there really is a gun pointed at their heads, they do vote to keep it unloaded.
Iranian officials, rankled that the legislation to extend sanctions was being considered ‐ the House overwhelmingly passed it last month ‐ have threatened to respond if the United States goes through with the renewal.
The 99-to-0 vote Thursday showed the desire of lawmakers to maintain a tough posture toward Iran amid uncertainty over the future of the nuclear agreement, which President-elect Donald J. Trump railed against during his campaign. A giant F-U to Obumble from the Senate
"Given Iran's continued pattern of aggression and the country's persistent efforts to expand its sphere of influence across the region, preserving these sanctions is critical," the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, said on Thursday. He said he expected the Trump administration and the new Congress to "undertake a total review of our overall Iran policy."
Asked on Wednesday if the president would veto the extension of sanctions, the White House press secretary, Josh Earnest, said that the administration would review it. "The administration continues to retain substantial authorities that can be used to impose financial sanctions on the Iranian regime," he said.
Mr. Earnest suggested, however, that the president could still sign the legislation. "There are plenty of times where the president has signed into law bills that Congress has passed that we're not sure are entirely necessary," he said.
The future of the nuclear agreement with Iran is one of the major looming foreign policy questions facing the Trump administration. During the campaign. Mr. Trump pledged to dismantle the agreement deal, which he described as "the stupidest deal of all time" in the last presidential debate.
Some hope that Mr. Trump will change course. In an interview published Wednesday, the departing director of the C.I.A., John O. Brennan, said that ending the nuclear agreement would be "disastrous" and "the height of folly."

[FOXNEWS] A Washington police officer died late Wednesday after being shot several times while responding to a domestic violence call, officials said, adding that the suspect was shot and killed after an 11-hour standoff.
Police said rescuers freed a girl and boy who the unidentified gunman had used as human shields inside the home where he was holed up.
The killer was shot at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Pierce County Sheriff's Department front man Ed Troyer said, adding that the gunman refused to surrender during negotiations.
The male officer, who has not been named, was shot with a gun inside the home. The officer was pronounced dead at 9:13 p.m. local time after undergoing emergency surgery at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was the 132nd officer to die in the line of duty this year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. More than 60 of the 132 were shot to death. At least eight were responding to reports of domestic disturbances.

"We negotiated through the night. Negotiations failed. We went in. Took one of the kids when we had a chance and (the suspect) grabbed the other kid. One of our officers felt he had a shot. He took it," said Det. Ed Troyer, Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman.
There was a procession and people and officers lining the streets when the officers body was transported from the Hospital to the Morgue during the night.
About a hundred people came to honor the fallen officer during a procession that left the hospital and went to the medical examiner's office. There was also a large police presence at Tacoma General Hospital, and a chaplain arrived several hours after the officer was transported for surgery.

Versushow many killed in the military, I wonder?
Based on quick numbers crunching, military deaths from KIA and homicides from 1996 to 2015 average around .1% of total personnel. I don't have numbers for law enforcement.

Because the Marines use the M16 rifle and the Army uses the M4 carbine? Different powder formulations and bullet compositions for the two barrel lengths.
The M855A1 is a tungsten bullet with a copper wrapped steel core.
During testing, the M855A1 performed better than M80 7.62×51mm NATO ball ammunition against certain types of targets (particularly hardened steel), blurring the performance differences that previously separated the two cartridges. The US Army Picatinny Arsenal stated that the new M855A1 offers improved hard target capability, more consistent performance at all distances, enhanced dependability, improved accuracy, reduced muzzle flash, and higher velocity compared to the M855 round. Further, the Army stated the new M855A1 ammunition is tailored for use in M4 carbines, but should also give enhanced performance in M16 rifles and M249 light machine guns. The new 62-grain (4 g) projectile or bullet used in the M855A1 round has a copper core with a 19-grain (1.2 g) steel "stacked-cone" penetrating tip. The M855A1 cartridge is sometimes referred to as "green ammo" because it fires a lead free projectile.[67][68][77][78][79][80] It is not necessarily more lethal than the M855, but performs more consistently every time it hits a soft target and retains its performance at longer distances. The EPR can penetrate a 3⁄8 in (9.5 mm) thick steel barrier from an M4 at 350 meters and from an M16 at 400 meters. Ballistics for both rounds are similar and don't require weapons to be re-zeroed, but if they are the EPR can be slightly more accurate. The steel-tip penetrator of the M855A1 is noticeably separated from the jacket of the bullet and can spin, but this is part of the design and does not affect performance. The M855A1 costs only 5 cents more per round than the M855.[81] The M855A1 bullet has a 1⁄8 in (3.2 mm) greater length than the M855.[82] Because steel and copper are less dense than lead, the bullet is lengthened inside the case to achieve the same weight as its predecessor.

University of California, Los Angeles students were treated to a dinner dialogue this month on the topic of "white feminism" and its relation to white supremacy.
The "White Feminism" dinner dialogue was hosted by the campus Intergroup Relations Program, an administrative center that seeks to educate the UCLA community on issues of "social identity, interpersonal, and intergroup relations/conflict, prejudice reduction, and social justice."
Celia Cody-Carrese, an Intergroup Relations Center intern who helped put on the event, told The Daily Bruin that organizers chose white feminism as their topic because they think feminism has traditional ties with white supremacy, noting that the term "feminism" is most frequently applied to white women, while the concerns of black women are generally treated as a separate, racial issue. Revolution eats its children?
[Hartford Courant] Pesident-elect Donald Trump may have considerable leverage in negotiations with United Technologies Corp. as he tries to force the conglomerate to reverse its decision to move 1,400 Carrier jobs to Mexico from Indiana.
Trump can renegotiate UTC's aerospace contracts with the Pentagon and seek revised federal environmental regulations and performance standards governing air conditioning and cooling equipment made by Carrier. He also could propose new federal tax policy affecting billions of dollars in cash that UTC and other conglomerates hold overseas.
"We have an administration that's going to evaluate corporate decisions and trade offs on a country level, not a company level," said Nick Heymann, an analyst at William Blair and Co.
[Right Scoop] Apparently former UN Ambassador John Bolton is not yet out of the mix for Secretary of State!
Fox News just reported that Bolton met with Pence today and will meet with Trump on Friday as a contender for the position:
I really thought Bolton was not being considered any longer, as there’s be no discussion on him for Secretary of State in what seem like weeks. Which has been baffling to me, as he’s literally the best man for the job. But now, all of a sudden, he’s meeting with both Pence and Trump. Does this mean Trump’s dinner with Romney didn’t go so well?

Romney walks away having given Trump a kiss on the ring. And he's happy to get any attention. The Media has something to talk about and Trump still holds all the cards.
Bolton IS the best man for the job. He KNOWS how the State Dept. Works, he knows the bureaucracy and how he can identify the clowns who need to be transferred out of their careers and into quitting because they can't be fired easily. Just send them to Whale Blubber island to salute the seals and take names or to Butthump, Nicaragua for important work counting the palm trees for the next 8 years. Clean out the State Dept. which sucked Hillary's tits. Hire fresh Trump leadership.
Bolton will know how to cull the herd.
Trump may have had him in mind from the start.

The words 'OPEC' and 'exceed expectations' have rarely, if ever, been used in the same sentence," Jeffrey Halley, senior market analyst at OANDA said. "However, yesterday's production deal seems to have done just that." The price of crude and energy shares have spiked, especially across Asian markets, in the wake of OPEC's decision to reduce global oil production by 5 percent. The dollar has also benefited, rising to a nine-month high.
At the OPEC exporters' group meeting in Vienna yesterday, the cartel's 14 members agreed to reduce production by around 4.5 percent, or 1.2 million barrels a day. Key non-member Russia also committed to a reduction, its first in 15 years.
The surge ended weeks of uncertainty and volatility on crude markets as the key players bickered over who would shoulder the biggest burden of the cuts.

Gentlemen, start your engines, let the cheating begin!
Deutsche Welle, where Canada gets its news
Trudeau on Tuesday approved the plan to triple the capacity of the Trans Mountain pipeline to move crude from inland Alberta to the Pacific coast. The importance of the Pacific pipeline decisions grew after US President Barack Obama's administration turned down TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline, from Canada to the US Gulf Coast.
The project, costing 6.8 billion Canadian dollars ($5 billion), would be a big step in opening up the possibility of exports to the Asian market from Canada's oil sands. Although a pipeline already exists, the newly-approved plan is to create another line, running parallel, that could carry almost triple the amount - up from 300,000 to 890,000 barrels a day.
The pipeline, proposed by Houston-based Kinder Morgan, will terminate at Burnaby, in Vancouver Harbour. HA! Texas strikes again!
"The project will triple our capacity to get Canadian energy resources to international markets beyond the United States," Trudeau said. Alberta alone has the world's third largest reserve of oil but, without the expansion of the pipeline, its distribution might prove too costly to export by ship or rail. Howya gonna make Alberta a seaport?
Trudeau on Tuesday also approved another pipeline - Enbridge's Line 3 - from Alberta to the US state of Wisconsin, which is set to nearly double the line capacity to 760,000 barrels a day heading south of the border. Trudeau paying off Wisconsin for voting for Trump?
However, opponents - which include municipalities in British Columbia, aboriginal groups and environmental organizations - have fought the plan, citing concerns about climate change as well as worries over pipeline leaks, spills or fires. Don't forget the caribou! And the whales!
Many have looked for inspiration from protesters in the US, where there have been months of protest over the Dakota Access Oil pipeline from North Dakota to Illinois. The $3.8-billion project is opposed by humanitarian George Soros the Standing Rock Sioux, whose reservation is near to the route and who fear a leak might contaminate their drinking water. Protests over the pipeline there have recently turned violent, with complaints of heavy-handedness against demonstrators.

Enbridge's Line 3 - from Alberta to the US state of Wisconsin
It will be vigorously opposed in Wisconsin by aboriginal groups (although not necessarily from the area), environmental organizations, old hippies AND teacher's union thugs.
Trudeau is counting on that. The fun has just begun.

[The Hill] It is "too soon" to determine if the attack at Ohio State University Monday was terrorism, the FBI said Wednesday.
At a press conference, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Cincinnati Division said that 18-year-old Abdul Razak Ali Artan "may have been inspired by ISIS" when he injured 11 people using his car and a butcher knife.
"It's too soon to draw any type of conclusions whether or not this is terrorism," Special Agent Angel Byers said. Byers said it appears that Artan was inspired by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and the late al Qaeda-linked cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.
While ISIS's Amaq news agency claimed Artan was a "soldier" of the terrorist group, Byer said it is too early to confirm that.

In defense of the FBI, I am peripherally associated with a govt. agency that performs post-mortems.
Even though common sense (not all that common, I've found) points without debate to the cause of the "issue," it must still be analyzed, sliced/diced and sent through numerous layers of bureaucracy before a report is issued. No stone unturned and all that.
Justifiable derision aside, it's just how the system works (sadly).

[Free Beacon] Retired LTC Ralph Peters chastised President Obama on Wednesday for his handling of Islamic terrorism while discussing the recent terrorist attack at Ohio State University during a Fox News appearance.
Host Martha MacCallum referenced President-elect Donald Trump’s tweet in response to the attack and compared it to the responses President Obama has given to past terrorist acts.
"President Obama can never admit he’s wrong about anything ever, and he’s obviously wrong about ISIS and Islamist terrorism in general," Peters said. "One thing I have high hopes for with the incoming administration is we will put a lot of this political correctness behind us."
Peters then said certain communities of immigrants should have more surveillance because of their inability and unwillingness to integrate into American society.
"They concentrate, they refuse to integrate, and this political correctness has resulted in of all states, Minnesota becoming the per capita greatest exporter of recruits for ISIS in the United States," Peters said in reference to the large Somali immigrant population in Minnesota.
Citing the practice of some Somalis practicing female genital mutilation, Peters told MacCallum that he does not view this as a religious or racial issue but instead as a cultural one.
"One point I want to stress, because I don’t want it to get lost in all this" Not all Muslims are terrorists," Peters said. "So we have to focus on the troublesome groups. We don’t want to pay the same amount of attention to Iranian Americans who serve in our military."
[Breitbart] Sixteen different disability associations are being evicted as the local government has earmarked their premises in central Piteå to house newly-arrived migrants.
The affected organisations under Sweden’s disability umbrella, which include groups for the elderly and infirm and people with dementia, fear it will be difficult to find new premises that they can both afford and are accessible to the people they help.
Piteå’s Cooperative Body of Organisations of Disabled People (HSO) has rented the large, two storey building, in which 16 groups serve nearly 3,000 members across the city, for 22 years.

[IsraelTimes] Suspects allegedly smuggled and sold IDF weapons in West Bank; police say arms and ammunition used in terror attacks.
Israel’s Border Police tossed in the clink ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... four members of an alleged cell on suspicion of weapons smuggling and trafficking, police said Wednesday.
According to the police, two of the men arrested, both residents of the southern West Bank city of Hebron,
...since it is Hebron, Hamas headquarters in the West Bank, we will just assume the gentlemen in question belong to that interesting organization...
acquired military grade weapons and ammunition used by the IDF and smuggled them to the West Bank, where they were subsequently sold to various sources, including the Paleostinian Authority.
The weapons and ammunition sold by the suspects were allegedly used in terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and security forces. The police did not specify which shootings the weapons and ammunition were used in, or whether the guns and bullets used were supplied to the attackers by the Paleostinian Authority.
The police said that the two men from Hebron were arrested while illegally staying in Israel, while another two of the detainees are residents of Israel’s south.
The arrests were made Tuesday, police said.
Since a nearly year-long wave of terrorist attacks began in October 2015, Israeli security forces have carried out nightly arrests of Paleostinians in the West Bank possessing weapons and involved in gun running.
While many of the hundreds of weapons captured were army issue, others were improvised weapons built in illegal gun making workshops. Their street value is significantly less than higher quality guns such as a M-16 rifle, making them easier to acquire.
This year alone, the IDF has shut down approximately 40 of such workshops, which manufactured guns such as those used in the Sarona Market shooting attack in Tel Aviv in June, and which have became ubiquitous throughout the West Bank during the recent terror wave.

The suspect was a minor at the time the alleged offenses were committed.
Police say the arrest came after security forces received intelligence information indicating that the suspect intended to leave for Syria. The Sherlocks found that the suspect recently became more religious, and began to make contact with IS fighters in Syria. He allegedly told the fighters that he wished to join the organization there.

[AnNahar] The Army Intelligence conducted a raid in the Bekaa town of Majdel Anjar and incarcerated Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! a man suspected of providing his brother, affiliated to al-Qaeda linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades ... Leb's current al-Qaeda affiliate, named after a guy whose car the current head of al-Qaeda had boomed... , with weapons, the National News Agency reported Wednesday.
The military arrested Omar H.Kh on charges of providing his brother, R.Kh., and affiliate of Abdullah Azzam Brigares with explosives and weapons, NNA said.
LBCI identified the man as Omar Hassan Kharroub, and his brother as Radwan.
Rawdan is the major suspect in the 2014 bombing attacks that targeted the Beirut area of al-Tayyouneh and the bombing in Dahr al-Baydar in the eastern Bekaa.
LBCI added that the army confiscated weapons, explosives and a surface-to-air missile.
(Reuters) The United Nations issued a fresh warning on Wednesday about the humanitarian situation in eastern Mosul where the U.S.-backed Iraqi army is locked in heavy fighting with Islamic State militants.
More than six weeks into the offensive against Islamic State’s last major city stronghold in Iraq, the army is trying to dislodge militants dug in among civilians in the eastern districts, the only side Iraqi troops have been able to breach.
“The situation in eastern Mosul city close to the front lines remains fraught with danger for civilians. Mortar and gunfire continue to claim lives,” the U.N. humanitarian coordinator’s office said. “The limited supplies of food and water are running out, amid concerning reports of food insecurity emerging from the city.”
Water was cut to 650,000 people – or 40 percent of total residents in the city when a pipeline was hit during fighting – a local official said on Tuesday.
With winter setting in, aid workers say a full siege is developing around the city and poor families are struggling to feed themselves as prices rose sharply.
The longer the conflict drags on, the more civilians will suffer as they are also exposed to violence from the militants bent on crushing any opposition to their rule.
Deputy U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore said on Wednesday there were reports that Islamic State, which has killed residents it suspects of collaborating with the Iraqi army, shot dead 27 civilians in public in Mosul’s Muhandiseen Park last week.
Three weeks ago at least 20 people were killed and their bodies displayed, as if crucified, at road junctions in the city for passing information to “the enemy”.
CLOSING IN FROM THE WEST
The capture of Mosul, the largest city under control of Islamic State in both Iraq and Syria, is seen as crucial towards dismantling the caliphate which the militants declared over parts of the two countries, after sweeping through Sunni populated northern and western Iraqi provinces in 2014.
Iraqi government and Kurdish forces surround the city from the north, east and south, while Popular Mobilisation forces – a coalition of Iranian-backed Shi’ite groups – are trying to close in from the west.
Last week Popular Mobilisation fighters cut the supply route to Mosul from Islamic State-held territory in Syria, driving up food prices in the city.
With the last supply route cut off, basic commodity prices in Mosul could double “in the short term”, said a humanitarian worker, who declined to be identified.
Some 100,000 Iraqi government troops, Kurdish security forces and mainly Shi’ite militiamen are participating in the assault on Mosul that began on Oct. 17, with air and ground support from a U.S.-led international military coalition.
Iraqi forces moving from the east are trying to advance to the Tigris river that runs through Mosul’s centre, in the biggest battle in Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.
WINTER FAVOURS MILITANTS
The Iraqi military estimates there are 5,000-6,000 insurgents in Mosul, resisting the advancing troops with suicide car bombs and sniper and mortar fire that also kill civilians.
Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, believed to be somewhere near the Syrian border, has told his fighters there can be no retreat from the city.
Some 74,000 civilians have fled Mosul and nearby areas so far, and the United Nations is preparing for a worst-case scenario in which more than a million people are made homeless as winter descends and food shortages set in.
The winter’s cloudy skies favour the militants, Iraqi officers told Reuters in eastern Mosul on Wednesday.
“When the weather is like this they take advantage,” said Maan al-Saadi, a commander of the elite Counter Terrorism Service (CTS), which is fighting inside the city as it advances from the east.
“The main goal for CTS is the river,” said Sami al-Aridhi, referring to the Tigris that cuts Mosul in two, about 3.5 kilometres (2 miles) away. “The federal police and the army will deal with the western part of the city,” he said.

While the gunmen’s allegiance is still unknown, ARA News can confirm that their primary target was the court’s Qadi, a religious judge.
“At least seven ISIS members were killed in the attack, including al-Halabi, who served as the chief of Sharia court in Raqqa city,” media activist Abdulkarim al-Yousef told ARA News.
ISIS militants responded to Wednesday’s assault, clashing with the gunmen as they tried to withdraw though Raqqa’s southern suburbs.
“Three of the gunmen were killed in the clashes, and two others were arrested by the Islamic State’s al-Hisba police force,” al-Yousef reported.
Al-Halabi was known for issuing uncompromising verdicts against those who violated the Islamic State’s puritanical rules.
Local residents told ARA News that the Qadi had an infamous reputation within Raqqa for torturing, decapitating and stoning residents.

RIYADH: International investigators have found a suspected “weapon pipeline” from Iran through Somalia to Yemen where Shiite rebels are battling the government, according to a report released on Wednesday.
Saudi Arabia and the United States have accused Iran of arming the Houthi rebels in Yemen, but Tehran denies the charges.
Since March last year Riyadh has led an Arab coalition fighting the Houthis and their allies in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized president, Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, after the rebels overran much of the country.
The analysis by Conflict Armament Research (CAR) is based on the seizure in February and March this year of weapons from dhows, traditional sailing vessels, in the Arabian Sea.
British-based CAR, which is primarily funded by the European Union, analyzed photographs of weapons confiscated from the dhows by the Australian warship HMAS Darwin and the French frigate FS Provence.
The ships were part of a joint international task force that operates separately from the Saudi coalition.
HMAS Darwin seized more than 2,000 weapons, including AK-type assault rifles and 100 Iranian-manufactured rocket launchers, from the dhow bound for Somalia, CAR said.
The seizure by FS Provence included 2,000 assault rifles “characteristic of Iranian manufacture” and 64 Hoshdar-M Iranian-made sniper rifles, all of which were in new condition, CAR said.
There were also nine Russian-made Kornet anti-tank guided missiles, it said.
UAE forces within the Saudi-led coalition reported recovering in Yemen a Kornet which CAR said is part of “the same production run” as those on the dhow.
This “supports allegations that the weapons originated in Iran and that the dhow’s cargo was destined for Yemen,” CAR said.
French government sources said the dhow was headed to Somalia “for possible transhipment to Yemen,” CAR said.
Light machine guns, suspected to be North Korean made, were found with the same serial number sequence on both dhows, “which suggests that the materiel derived from the same original consignment,” the report added.
It also referred to the US Navy’s seizure from a dhow in March of AK-type assault rifles, rocket launchers and machine guns which the US believed “orginated in Iran and were destined for Yemen.”
Two of the dhows were made by Al Mansoor of Iran, CAR said.
Although their findings were “relatively limited,” the investigators said their analysis “suggests the existence of a weapon pipeline extending from Iran to Somalia and Yemen.”
This involves “significant quantities of Iranian-manufactured weapons and weapons that plausibly derive from Iranian stockpiles,” they said.
It said that traffickers offload weapons in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland in northern Somalia “for local arms markets or as transhipment points for onward supply to Yemen.”
Other analysts have questioned the extent of Tehran’s influence over the Houthis, a minority group which fought six wars against Yemen’s government from 2004 to 2010.
[EdwardKlein.com] Why did Hillary Clinton join Jill Stein, the Green Party’s oddball presidential nominee, in asking for a recount of the votes in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania when everyone knows that such a recount won’t change the outcome of the 2016 election?
Part of the answer is that people close to Hillary--Huma Abedin, Chelsea Clinton, and Sidney Blumenthal--encouraged her to ask for a recount as a way of lifting her spirits. Has the woman never heard of opiate suppositories?
"She is weepy, looks ten years older and is very whiny," said one of Hillary’s closest friends. "She has been drinking whine wine pretty heavily, much more than usual. She mopes around all day", Looking for her strawberries...
swimming in a sea of recriminations and complaining that her campaign managers were ’incompetent,’ Bill and Chelsea ’didn’t work hard enough,’ FBI Director Comey was ’in league with Trump.’
In addition, President Obama convinced Hillary that it was in the best interest of the Democratic Party if the Clinton legal team got involved with the recount and didn’t leave it to Jill Stein.
"The president felt that the progressives were acting stunned and helpless and had to rise out of their stupor and show that they weren’t going to take their defeat lying down," said the source. "Contesting the results of the election was the best and fastest way to stir the morale and fighting spirit of the demoralized party.
"Obama felt that a recount would plant a seed with the base that the election was somehow dishonest," the source continued. "He wanted to raise serious questions about the legitimacy of the Trump presidency."
And what did Bill Clinton--the man Charlie Rose called "the best political animal that’s ever been in American politics"--think of all this?
Said a close Clinton adviser: "Bill thinks the recount is going to backfire as a strategy because there are probably no more than a handful of questionable ballots and they could actually wind up adding to Trump’s numbers and validate rather than invalidate his election."

You would be too, if you had
'hanging, fat or pregnant chads'.
*It bears repeating that we dodged a bullet of downright Biblical proportions when the voters defied the expectations of Their Betters and voted for Trump. The FIRST time Malificent came up against a political argument - or worse, an international crisis - that didn't go her way, God alone knows what would have happened next.
*For all his horndog nonsense, Bill Clinton is still probably one of the best pure politicians we've seen in the last fifty years. Had Malificient's people listened to him - and had he not been so damaged himself by his past actions - we might be singing a very different tune this morning.

She probably doesn't listen to Bill much since he's most likely been lying to her for YEARS about, shall we say, his peccadillos.
After a lifetime of living with a liar, you probably take nothing they would say seriously, and begin to believe that they're actually out to get you somehow. Especially in her 'fragile' mental condition.
I do agree with Mike, Bill was and still is the ultimate pol.

And if the recount fails (as everyone suspects because you'd need to steal 10K votes) she's back to where she was. I suspect at this point Huma and Sid are probably just hoping to give her a stroke so they can be free of her.

"The president felt that the progressives were acting stunned and helpless and had to rise out of their stupor and show that they weren’t going to take their defeat lying down"
Remember that Mr. Obama will also be around and doing this shtick for at least another 25 years.
[DAWN] POLICE brutality and abuse of authority are problems law-enforcement agencies worldwide have to contend with. However, some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go... in Pakistain, it appears that black sheep in uniform can make a mockery of the law with impunity. As documented in this paper’s Tuesday edition, a number of coppers in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... have been involved in kidnappings for ransom in the chaotic metropolis. These include coppers of the rank of SHO and inspector. These crooked cops have kidnapped traders and businessmen, barged into homes and demanded millions of rupees in ransom. In fact, their behaviour has been that of gangland thugs, not officers of the law. One individual even had the gall to use an official police van to collect ransom.
Karachi is certainly not alone when it comes to coppers committing crimes. Despite the sacrifices and efforts of honest officers to fight crime, the image that prevails in Pakistain is of a corrupt, inefficient force that preys on the citizenry and is beholden to its political masters. For many years, officialdom has been talking of police reform, yet few visible changes have been observed in the workings of police departments countrywide. Perhaps the main problem is that the legislative and administrative framework that governs policing here is outdated. Apart from KP, where a new police law was introduced earlier this year, the other provinces and regions of Pakistain either function under the Police Act of 1861, or under a hybrid of this law and the Police Order, 2002. Aping the colonial model has produced dismal results, as today’s challenges are entirely different. Today, rather than worrying about controlling rowdyism or nabbing pickpockets, coppers have to deal with sophisticated and ruthless forces of Evil and criminal syndicates. Unless the legal and administrative structure is changed to respond to the needs of the day, criminality within the force will be difficult to eliminate.
Experts have stressed the need for community policing; instead of the image of the police officer as an ’outsider’, what is needed is the recruitment of bright and service-oriented men and women who are known in their communities and neighbourhoods and are able to build bridges with citizens. Moreover, officers of repute must be given security of tenure and not transferred due to political whims. An independent system of lodging and investigating claims of police abuse must also be instituted. Police officers need to be given competitive service structures, with good pay and benefits; if individuals resort to corrupt practices thereafter, they must be shown the door. The federal, provincial and local governments, and civil society representatives, must all give their input on how to reform the police. Specifically, there are many serving and retired officers of impeccable repute that should be consulted on how to fix the rot. Above all, those who break the law while in uniform must be brought to justice.

Al-Shabaab terrorists are regrouping in Jedahaley, Somalia, and plan to attack the country, police have warned.
Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet has also revealed that some of the attackers were hiding in small groups pretending to be herders around Hida and Dambala in Somalia while plotting to sneak into the country.
“The possible targets for the attacks include security personnel and establishments along the border as well as the passenger service vehicles plying the routes along the border,” he said.
The terror group had changed tact, said the police boss, and had split into smaller groups and infiltrated the country especially along the borders of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties. In the coast region, he said, police were also closely monitoring the terrorists as they make efforts to return to the Boni forest.
“The militants are known to take advantage of the ongoing rains to infiltrate the country through the general areas of Kolbio and close to Hulugho area in Garissa County,” Mr Boinnet said.
Security has been heightened in the country to avert any attacks, and police have also appealed to the public to continue cooperating with them and remain vigilant, said Mr Boinnet.
Intelligence also shows that Islamic State still continued to target the youth for online recruitment but police said measures had been put in place to stop radicalisation.
Police also warned that Al-Shabaab could exploit the tension between the Degodia-Matan and Degodia-Jirail sub-clans residing within a disputed area between Wajir West and Eldas sub-counties.
“The county security teams are alert and we call upon the local leaders to help us in preventing unnecessary clashes and seek a lasting solution to their disputes,” he said.
UPSURGE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
In the south Coast, police said they had dealt firmly with the recent upsurge of criminal activity that targeted traders and boda boda riders by deploying more specialised security personnel, engaging the local leadership and enhanced patrols.
To mitigate the tension between the Pokot and Marakwet, and the Turkana and Pokot communities, police said apart from enhanced law enforcement, they were also using alternative dispute resolution mechanism.
“We equally encourage members of the public to embrace community policing,” he said.
Mr Boinnet outlined the measures police had put in place across the country to deal with other crimes.

[DAWN] The family of Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a Somali student and child of a refugee, who maimed 11 people in a car-ramming and knife attack on an Ohio university campus, lived in Pakistain for seven years before moving to the US with his family in 2014, New York Times ...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... reported. I suppose I'm repeating myself, but if something Evil happens in the world Pakistain is involved somewhere. So he's really a Somali-Pakistaini-American...
Federal law enforcement officials said that Artan was admitted to the US in 2014 as the child of a refugee ─ his mother ─ and before that he lived for seven years in Pakistain.
He was studying at Ohio State University as a third-year transfer student of logistics management.
Artan's shocking attack lasted just a few minutes ─ from a car careening into the crowd until the suspect was rubbed out.
Artan was a "soldier" of the turbanIslamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group, a turban-linked news agency alleged Tuesday.
"The executor of the attack in the American state of Ohio is a soldier of the Islamic State," the Amaq agency quoted an insider source as saying, according to a translation by the SITE monitoring group.
"He carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of international coalition countries," Amaq claimed.
A post made by Artan and quoted by ABC television said, "I can't take it any more. America! Stop interfering with other countries, especially the Moslem Ummah. We are not weak. We are not weak, remember that."
"If you want us Moslems to stop carrying (out) lone wolf attacks, then make peace," the post reads.
"We will not let you sleep unless you give peace to the Moslems."
Ohio is home to the second largest Somali community in the United States, numbering around 38,000 in in the Columbus area alone, according to the state's Somali community association.
The country's largest Somali community, in Minnesota, was rocked when one of its members stabbed 10 people at a mall in September. IS later claimed the attacker was a turban "soldier," the same claim as for Artan.
Congratulations. Enjoy leading the minority party even further from the levers of power.

[WASHINGTONPOST] House Minority Leader Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi Congresswoman-for-Life from the San Francisco Bay Area, born into a family of professional politicians. Formerly Speaker of the House, but it's not her fault they lost. Really. Noted for her heavily botoxed grimace... (Calif.) on Wednesday won the race to lead the Democratic caucus for an eighth term, prevailing in a contest that became a vote of confidence in her continued stewardship and an early proxy battle over the future of the Democratic Party.
Pelosi easily toppled Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), a seven-term politician who launched an upstart bid to lead House Democrats two weeks ago in response to the party’s disappointing November election results.
After 14 undistinguished years in Congress, Ryan emerged from the backbench -- he literally sits on the last bench in the chamber -- as a vessel of discontent and forced Pelosi to fight for the top spot like never before. It’s prompted her to offer structural changes to leadership and more opportunity to the burgeoning crop of junior politicians who have never served in the majority.
Pelosi vowed to expand the number of seats at the leadership table to stave off defections and leave her firmly in charge of a caucus ruled by an "iron fist," as Senate counterpart, Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) once described her leadership style.
There are 194 members of the House Democratic caucus, and four nonvoting delegates are allowed to vote in caucus elections. On Wednesday, 197 of the 198 members showed up. Pelosi won with 134 votes, compared with 63 votes for Ryan in a secret-ballot election held in the committee room of the House Boodle Central.

Nancy Pelosi is 76. May she live another 100 years and remain House Minority Leader until the bitter end.
[Anadolu] One soldier was killed and three others were wounded Wednesday in an early morning explosion in Thailand's far South.
Police Lieutenant-Colonel Shinawat Wetayakorn of Yala police station said that the four were hit by a remote controlled bomb. He said, "The bomb was hidden on the roadside and triggered when six military officers on three motorcycles were passing by on a road in the Muang district of Yala. One died on the spot and three others were injured. We consider this attack to be the work of insurgents."
Monday's incident occurs after a series of violent incidents including the recent murder of an eight-month pregnant woman while she was buying groceries. This provoked indignation from authorities, Buddhists and Muslims alike. National Human Rights Commission member Angkhana Neelapaijit said, "It is a strong violation of human rights and moralities of every religion."
Around 200 people gathered at the site of the shooting on November 27 to denounce the "uncivilized and unacceptable acts."
[RedStateWatcher] As we all suspected, the spree of anti-Trump vandalism was faked. This video captures a city attorney committing vandalism.
Philly.com reported: Police are investigating an assistant city solicitor in connection with anti-Trump graffiti sprayed on a grocery store in Chestnut Hill.
Duncan Lloyd is one of two men seen in a surveillance video that captures the vandalism, said Craig Straw, first deputy city solicitor.
"We do not condone this type of behavior from our employees," Straw said. "To my knowledge, Mr. Lloyd has already contacted the Philadelphia Police and is cooperating with them. We will decide on a course of action once we obtain more information about the investigation."

Nothing fake about it. It was a genuine act of vandalism from one of Philadelphia's elite and at $3,000 t0 $10,000 damage, a felony.
Joe DeFelice, the chairman of the Philadelphia Republican Party, said that Lloyd should be fired for his actions.
“If the image of an upper-middle class city attorney clad in a blazer and sipping wine while vandalizing an upscale grocery store with an anti-Trump message strikes you as perhaps the most bourgeois sight imaginable, that’s because it is,” DeFelice wrote. “Nothing can better represent the hysterical pearl-clutching of the 'progressive' elite in response to this earth-shattering election, when residents of Chestnut Hill and similar neighborhoods across the country discovered – gasp – that other people have a voice too. The assistant city solicitor in question had ostensibly taken the law into his own hands, since a democratic election didn’t yield his preferred outcome.”
“For somebody with extensive legal training to feel entitled to vandalize a newly opened super-market strikes us at the Philadelphia Republican Party as an astonishing feat of idiocy. Did the extra glass of Shiraz give him some sort of delusional confidence that there are no cameras on Germantown Ave? The taxpayers should be entrusting exactly none of our faith into this man. He should be fired from our city’s law department immediately.”

The crayon on the wall he slashes,
Deep upon the advertising,
A single worded poem comprised

And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding
The poem across the tracks rebounding
Shadowed by the exit light
His legs take their ascending flight
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night.

Bizarre story because it would only be fake if the attorney was pro-Trump and didn't mean it. Nothing fake at all about it but I guess that makes it seem less messed up or something.
There are lots of questions surrounding a fire that gutted a home on Johnson Street in Plant City overnight.
Along with heavy damage, anti-Trump graffiti was sprayed on the house, inside and out. The family who lives there was spending the night with relatives, but Navy veteran Matthew Smith says his home was targeted because he is a Donald Trump supporter.
"It's not what I expected out of America," says Smith. "It should be us figuring problems out together."
Smith flies three flags in front of his house: the American flag, the POW Flag, and the Navy flag.
"We supported Trump from when he started running for office," says Matthew's wife Brittany. "We never made it public. We never had a sign in our backyard, so no one really knew we were pro Trump."
But Matthew says he's been very active on Facebook, with posts supporting Trump, the Second Amendment, and other conservative causes.
Investigators are looking into possible connections with arsonists.
Earlier this month, anti-Trump graffiti was sprayed on two mobile homes near Mango. Investigators say someone tried to light one of them on fire.

[PREMIUMTIMESNG] The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has said that troops have commenced advancing into Sambisa Forest, one of the major enclaves of Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... terrorists.
Mr. Buratai said this on Tuesday in Abuja while unveiling packs of bottle water provided through private initiative in appreciation of troops fighting the Lions of Islam in the region.
According to the Army Chief, the advancement is an onslaught to finally flush out remnants of gunnies from the forest and rescue all those kidnapped in that area.
He added: "This year (2016), the whole Army Headquarters will be moving into the North East to celebrate Christmas and New Year with our troops.’’
Mr. Buratai described the bottle water initiative for free distribution to troops as "quite historic and the first of its kind.’’
He said: "The scheme involves branding 50cl bottle water with the image of the Nigerian soldier.
"It has the Nigerian army logo and that of stakeholders and partners from the private sector with the words: Thank you for your service.’’
According to him, the initiative seeks to appreciate the efforts of Nigerian troops actively engaged in the defence of our dear nation.

[INDIATODAY.INTODAY.IN] The murderous Moslems who attacked Uri and Samba both seemed to have used the same explosive- nitroglycerin. Also, both the Uri and Chamliyal murderous Moslems are suspected to be from Lashkar-e-Taiba ...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI... While sources indicated that the trio bumped off by the BSF in Chamliyal in Samba district of Jammu were tasked with carrying out another Uri-like attack in the Valley, the agencies point out that this was not the only link between the two incidents.
Both the Uri and Chamliyal murderous Moslems are suspected to be from Lashkar-e-taiba.
The bottles containing liquids and seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which were recovered from the slain terrorists, links them to those who attacked Uri.
The BSF explosive expert identified the liquid as 'nitro glyceride', commonly known as the nitroglycerin- another similarity with the Uri attacks.
Nitroglycerin is a high grade incendiary matter which is powerful but an unstable explosive, with an effect to cause massive fire.
While the NIA is yet to establish the nature of the inflammable substance that the murderous Moslems used to set the tents on fire in Jammu, Sherlocks suspect it to be a high grade incendiary material that the murderous Moslems carried with them into the brigade HQ.
6 Bihar Regiment soldier told NIA that the murderous Moslems were carrying with them a "slurry liquid" in what appeared to be a coke bottle, used with a long wick. It was lit, and thrown to cause incendiary fire.
The four murderous Moslems who sneaked into the army facility in Uri in the early hours of September 18 set fire to several tents, housing both men and ammunition. The toll of Uri went upto 19.
A top BSF source said, " It appears that Uri attacker and Chamliyal attacker were using same type of explosives. But it will only be confirmed after investigation."

[CNSNEWS] During the presidential campaign, Republican Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... said he would not cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid, but no matter.
Sen. Chuck Schumer Senator-for-life from New York, renowned for his love of standing in front of cameras. Schumer has been a professional politician since 1975, when disco was in flower. , the next Senate minority leader, on Tuesday warned that Republicans are "plotting a war on seniors."
Given that seniors and the middle aged broke decisively for Mr. Trump, according to exit polls, that seems unlikely.
The New York Democrat said he was "so disappointed" that Trump has nominated Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) to be his Health and Human Services secretary. "When it comes to issues like Medicare, the Affordable Care Act and Planned Parenthood ...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party. , Congressman Price and the average American couldn't be further apart," Schumer told a news conference on Capitol Hill.

[NBCNEWS] Minutes before his car-and-knife attack on the Ohio State University campus, Abdul Razak Ali Artan posted a message to his Facebook page -- a rant full of anger at the United States with vague references to ISIS and "lone wolf attacks."
But friends of the Somali refugee said Tuesday that the screed and the violence that followed it did not square with the mild-mannered Somali refugee they knew.
"He actually loved America," Ameer Kadar, who last saw Artan two weeks ago, told NBC News. "He loved the fact of the opportunity he had here to go to school... He loved the fact that he was able to get a college degree."
Haroon Khan, who met Artan and his family when they lived in Pakistain, said he could not believe the young man plowed his car into a crowd and stabbed people with a butcher knife before being rubbed out by a police officer.
"He was a very sweet and humble person," Khan said. "He can never do such an act, honestly."
Investigators have not yet pinpointed a motive for Monday's ambush, which sent 11 people to the hospital, but none with life-threatening injuries.
But the Facebook post is a valuable clue to Artan's state of mind as they try to determine if the ambush was rooted in terrorism or if he had a personal problem or grudge that pushed him over the edge.
Two U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News there are no known contacts between Artan and ISIS or any other foreign terrorist organization, disputing an unsubstantiated claim from ISIS' media arm -- which has become routine with attacks -- that he was working in service of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.....
This Daily Mail article reports a neighbour claimed Mr. Artan lived in squalor in a two bedroom apartment with his mother and six siblings not far from the OSU campus.
Squalor is a relative term for a Somali, and especially for a college student...
His mother is in her fifties, apparently, so student standards won't apply. On the other hand, this Daily Mail article suggests our dead miscreant may actually have somewhat more than the 18 years the FBI keeps quoting. Also that he harmed two more than the eleven previously stated -- though not seriously -- and that he ran over to Washington, DC the previous week and bought a knife there, possibly intending to create there the kind of excitement he ended up doing with a new knife bought at a local Wal-Mart at home.

"He actually loved America," Ameer Kadar, who last saw Artan two weeks ago, told NBC News. "He loved the fact of the opportunity he had here to go to school... He loved the fact that he was able to get a college degree."
He actually loved the fact that the Kafir and Christian charities paid for his school and settlement in America. He loved the free stuff, contributed nothing but mayhem. America is a bit more than just "free stuff" there Ameer.

Muslims have no problem with loving their wife and then beating the crap out of her. Loving a female family member and then throwing acid in her face for not wearing the proper coverings.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi anti-terrorism forces cleared three areas in Mosul from Islamic State militants on Wednesday, a senior apparatus leader said.
Abdul Wahab al-Saedi said in statements that the forces, part of the Iraqi army, “completed the liberation of al-Qadisiya, Dawrat al-Mahrouq and al-Abbadi northeast of Mosul.”
A source in Nineveh said that the anti-terrorism forces also killed on Tuesday an ISIS suicide bomber and destroyed his booby-trapped vehicle east of the city. The source added that the suicider was on his way for an attack on military forces in al-Zohour district.
Iraqi government forces, backed by tribal militias and US-led fighter jets, have been on a major campaign since mid October to liberate Mosul, ISIS’s last strategic bastion in Iraq. Forces have been successfully recapturing villages around Mosul and aim to storm the heart of the city and isolate the whole province of Nineveh to fully trap militants inside. ISIS fighters, on the other hand, have reportedly responded with occasionally shelling the liberated areas.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Federal police forces killed 26 Islamic State militants in Mosul on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry media reported, while four civilians were either killed or wounded in an ISIS shelling of one district.
The War Media Cell said the forces bombarded a group haven near Tal al-Romman village, destroying two booby-trapped cars that tried to stymie the advancement of forces.
Also in Mosul, one civilian was killed and three others wounded as ISIS shelled al-Bakr district, Shafaaq website quoted sources as saying, adding that the victims fell when a mortar missile landed on their home.
Iraqi forces, supported by tribal militias and US-led air forces, have been on a major campaign to liberate Mosul since mid October.
Earlier on Wednesday, anti-terrorism forces reportedly liberated three neighborhoods in Mosul.
Army forces said earlier this week they became in control of 50 percent of the eastern section of Mosul.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Media officials with the Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday liberating the 2nd area of Hayy al-AKhaa in the city of Mosul, and raising Iraqi flag over its buildings.
The officials said in a press statement, “Today, Anti-Terrorism forces managed to liberate the 2nd area of Hayy al-Akhaa, and raised Iraqi flag over its buildings,” adding that, “Security forces inflicted heavy material and human losses on the members of the Islamic State group during the liberation operation of the neighborhood.”
Joint security forces, backed by Army Aviation and international coalition troops, continue liberating the city of Mosul from the ISIS control, after the offensive to liberate the city was launched in October 2016, by General Commander of Armed Forces Haider al-Abadi.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Joint Operations Command announced on Wednesday the liberation of 22 neighborhoods located on the west side of Mosul.
The Command said in a press statement, “Troops of Federal Police continue search and cleanse operations of buildings and roads from IEDs in the southwestern axis of Mosul,” pointing out that, “Troops of the army’s 9th Armored Brigade and 3rd regiment of the 1st Brigade managed to advance into the areas of Hayy al-Eintsar, Jadida Mofty, al-Salam, Younis al-Sab’awi and Palestine, and continue to cleanse roads and buildings in these areas.”
“Anti-Terrorism forces managed to advance into the western side of the city, and started cleansing liberated areas, including the neighborhoods of al-Bakr and al-Zohour,” the statement explained. “The number of the IED cleansed areas reached 22 neighborhoods. Moreover, security forces hoisted the Iraqi flag over the buildings of sector 2, Hayy al-Akhaa after it was liberated from ISIS control.” the statement added.
Joint security forces backed by the Army Air Force and international coalition troops continue to liberate parts of the city of Mosul from ISIS control, after the offensive to liberate it was launched in October 2016, by General Commander of Armed Forces and Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi.
[ARA News] Duhok – Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces have dismantled hundreds of landmines and explosive devices in Bashiqa city and its countryside over the past few days, military sources reported on Thursday.
The Kurdish Peshmerga secured the Bashiqa District northeast of Mosul on 6 November, after three weeks of heavy fighting against the Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants. The Peshmerga forces liberated the district after breaking through the ISIS defensive lines and encircling the capital of the district, Bashiqa city.
“After liberating Bashiqa city and the surrounding villages from ISIS terrorists, our special teams started clearing the area in order to secure the return of the displaced local civilians,” Peshmerga officer Izzadin Wanki told ARA News.
“Hundreds of improvised explosive devices and landmines have been dismantled during the last three weeks,” the Peshmerga official said, adding that clearing the district from ISIS leftovers is taking longer than expected “due to the large amount of explosives left behind by ISIS”.
According to Hassan Ramadan, a Peshmerga fighter, the Islamic State group resorts to planting landmines in order to impede the progress of its enemies.
“In every area where the terrorist group suffers a tight siege, its militants start to spread explosives and landmines all over that area. The main goal is to impede the advance of rival forces and to cause as many civilian casualties as possible once displaced people start to return home,” Ramadan told ARA News.
Kurdish forces had besieged Bashiqa city for two weeks. They kept up a protracted bombardment of the local ISIS headquarters until the final holdouts were forced to withdraw toward Mosul city. The US-led coalition provided an air cover to the Kurdish Peshmerga during the Bashiqa operation. Thousands of Peshmerga soldiers participated in the multi-prong offensive.
More than 30,000 civilians used to inhabit Bashiqa city, including Christians, Arabs, Kurds and Shiites. After the Islamic State’s invasion in August 2014, most of the inhabitants fled to the Kurdistan Region.

The army has this morning launched a major assault on the Ganfouda terrorist enclave in Benghazi. At least 20 tanks are reported to have been attacking from the west while LNA forces appear to be pressing forward all around the perimeter while naval vessels bombard from offshore.
The assault, which began this morning in torrential rain, has seen an unknown number of casualties. Among the injured is the 298 Tank Brigade’s commander brigadier-general Naji Al-Moghrabi.
The LNA says that it has destroyed the terrorists’ only tank and has captured at least six militants. It is claiming that it now controls more than 90 percent of Ganfouda.
From early this morning, police cleared the roads of traffic between the front line at Ganfouda and Benghazi Medical Centre to give ambulances an unrestricted run as the Libyan National Army began it major assault on the terrrosit enclave.
At least 24 soldiers were wounded in today’s fighting including the commander of the 298 Tank Brigade and one man is known to have been killed. Tomorrow the roads will remain cleared and Benghazi municipality has declared that all schools and most government offices will be shut.
Today the army claimed to have destroyed the only tank in the hands of the terrorists. Pictures were posted of social media of the tank being struck by a rocket propelled grenade and then burning. Later shots showed soldiers posing beside the burnt-out hulk. It is thought that this tank was captured from the army during fighting in Garayunis in July.
The military have also repeated a long-standing warning that it would sink any outside vessel that tried to reach the Ganfoud enclave.
The army is maintaining a tight control on details of its operations but it appears that several areas of the Ganfouda district, including a large customs pound with containers has been overrun.
There are no details for the number of terrorists nor civilians killed and injured in the fighting. There were reports that six militants had been captured early today but no pictures nor further information has appeared.
It has been a prime concern of both UNSMIL and NGOs including Human Rights Watch that civilians trapped in the terrorist enclave were at risk from the fighting. Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council published photos of a child killed in an air raid and a month ago a group shot of children holding up signs saying they were not getting enough to eat.
The army has always maintained that it was prepared to let civilians leave the area provided that they could be searched to confirm their identities. This the BRSC and its IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorist allies apparently refused to permit. The International Criminal Court has also latterly involved itself saying that it would be watching for war crimes committed against civilians.
Aleppo – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday the death of at least 37 fighters from the Turkey-backed rebel group of the Euphrates Shield Brigade.
The pro-Turkey rebel fighters were killed during clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
“These Turkey-backed groups launched an offensive on the SDF-held town of Oulasha in an attempt to hit our security centre there. However, our forces were able to repel the attack after heavy clashes,” the SDF leadership said in a statement to ARA News.
“At least 37 members of the so-called Euphrates Shield Brigade were killed during the clashes, and four others were taken captive,” the SDF said, adding that their forces were prepared to face any such offensives by the Turkey-backed groups in northern Syria.
This comes just few days after the Kurdish-led SDF shelled Turkish Army camps in northern Aleppo Governorate, destroying at least three military vehicles.
SDF troops have been trading mortar and small arms fire with Turkish forces and Turkey-backed rebels for weeks.
Last week, Turkey and its allies renewed their campaign to capture the Manbij Subdistrict in northern Aleppo. They advanced into the villages of Ilan, Qart Weran and Nassir but withdrew after fierce clashes.
Repeated Turkish attacks on Syrian Kurds
On November 7, Turkey’s military shelled headquarters of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) –a leading force within the SDF– in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah Governorate. Military sources and local activists reported that the Turkish Army also hit adjacent Kurdish fighting positions in Ain Diwar village, in Derik District. Scores of YPG fighters were wounded in the hour-long bombardment and massive material damage was reported.
“The [ruling Justice and Development Party] and its allies are trying to hit the Kurdish forces in Syria in support of Islamic State terrorists,” a YPG officer told ARA News. The YPG’s leadership said the Turkish bombardment on Ain Diwar continued for one hour, halting after the YPG returned fire. “Our forces responded to the attack by launching several shells, targeting the source of the fire. Only then did the Turkish offensive stop,” they said.
On November 19, at least 12 Kurdish members of the SDF were killed under attacks by Turkey-backed rebels in northern Syria. Supported by Turkey’s military forces, Syrian rebels of the Euphrates Shield Bridges reportedly bombed YPG headquarters near the Qereh Dagh town in Aleppo Governorate.
Dilovan Mirkhani, a media activist accompanying the YPG forces in Aleppo Governorate, said that the Turkish offensive was aimed at impeding the YPG progress against ISIS. “Turkey’s military and their allied Euphrates Shield rebels have repeatedly targeted the YPG positions in a bid to undermine the Kurdish advance against ISIS in northern Syria,” Mirkhani told ARA News. “However, the YPG and other factions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) remained committed to the fight against ISIS and continued their military operations on different fronts, including northern Aleppo.”
On November 20, Turkish forces launched air raids and artillery strikes on Sunday evening, targeting the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) positions near Manbij city. The SDF sustained a handful of casualties and their local headquarters was damaged.
On November 21, clashes broke out between the SDF and Turkish forces, participating in the Euphrates Shield Operation. The fighting continued for nearly two days, as combatants traded mortar and small arms fire. The Turkish protracted artillery and mortar barrage killed at least five SDF fighters and wounded several others. Furthermore, Turkey-backed rebels fought to dislodge the SDF from Manbij’s western countryside, employing small and medium weapons.
Battle for al-Bab
In the meantime, the battle for the ISIS-held al-Bab city expanded, as both Turkey-backed rebels and Syrian Democratic Forces rushed towards the city.
While the Kurdish-led SDF want to secure the city in order connect the Afrin and Kobane canton administrations, Turkey’s main goal in northern Syrian is to prevent Kurdish contiguity. These objectives are irreconcilable.
Colonel John Dorrian, a coalition spokesman, called on the SDF and Turkey last week, telling them to coordinate their operations against the Islamic State. “We believe that all of the operations in Syria against Daesh should be coordinated, very closely, between all the parties that are involved,” he said.
According to the coalition’s spokesman, deconfliction measures are in place to prevent the SDF and Turkey-backed rebel forces from “converging in a way that would be unhelpful.”
However, tensions have escalated from words, to artillery duels, to close quarters combat, without any direct intervention by the US-led coalition.
[DAWN] Pakistain cannot have bullet trains, even though this was one of the ruling party’s election promises, Khawaja Saad Rafique told the National Assembly on Tuesday.
"When we asked the Chinese about it, they laughed at us. We should consider the 160kmph train under CPEC as a bullet train. We can’t afford an actual bullet train, there’s no market for it," the railway minister said.
Admitting that their party had faced a lot of criticism over not launching the project, he said that the country didn’t have enough money to build one. "Even if we do, we don’t have such a big range of upper and middle class passengers who will buy tickets."
In an articulate speech on the floor of the house, Mr Rafique gave members a comprehensive overview of the performance of his department and insisted that he was doing as much as possible to clean up the department and turn it into a profit-making entity.
Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... are not prepared to turn over railway land to the Pakistain Railways, preventing the department from using them to generate more revenue, he told the house.

Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein has been pushing hard for election recounts in several states. Wisconsin agreed, but then Stein demanded that the recount be done by hand, claiming that a manual recount would be more accurate than one done by machine. When the state Elections Commission rejected her, Stein sued, and was joined by Hillary Clinton in the legal effort. After a four-hour hearing on Tuesday evening, however, the court ruled against her.
The state argued that there was no reason to order the entire state to recount the votes by hand, saying there was no evidence that it would be more accurate. Judge Valerie Bailey-Rihn agreed, after Stein’s own experts were unable to show that the computer systems had been attacked.
Despite her legal decision, the judge actually agreed with Stein that a hand recount was a good idea, but despite her belief, could not find appropriate justification. "I follow the law. That’s who I am despite my personal opinions," Judge Bailey-Rihn said. "It’s (the counties’) decision. It’s their discretion. I may disagree with it ... but I must follow the law."
With this decision, the method of how the recount will be conducted will be left to each individual county. Reportedly, all but 19 counties plan to do hand recounts anyway, giving more support to the argument that a statewide order would be ineffective.
[Breitbart] The University of Mississippi Student Body Senate has pulled a resolution which would have created a "sanctuary campus" for illegal immigrant students and banned federal immigration officials from stepping foot on campus after overwhelming backlash.
Hours after Breitbart Texas reported on the push to make Ole Miss a sanctuary campus, the resolution was pulled from being voted on by the Student Senate after alumni and the general public flooded the university’s and Sen. Chris McDaniel’s (R-Ms) office with concerns over the resolution, according to Mississippi Pep.
Under the proposed sanctuary campus policy pushed by social justice groups and the Ole Miss College Democrats, campus police would have been barred from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The resolution also demanded that Ole Miss "refuse" ICE and federal immigration officials the ability to set foot on the public campus.
Under the resolution, the use of E-verify would have been banned while the creation of a university office for illegal immigrant students would have been established.
The United Conservatives organization was bombarded with calls from Ole Miss fans who wanted the sanctuary campus policy thrown out.
"We pulled together a quick effort to reach out to our coalition," United Conservatives Communications Director Keith Plunkett told Mississippi Pep. "We have a really good group of strong conservative students up at Ole Miss and they are doing incredible work, especially considering the hostility on campus this year."
The organization released a "call to action" to help stop the sanctuary campus effort and within three hours, thousands of conservatives had called McDaniel or Ole Miss to voice their disdain with the proposal.
At least two Student Senators pulled their initial co-sponsorship for the resolution, Breitbart Texas was told, as McDaniel and conservatives celebrated the short-term blockade of the plan.
Faculty Senate Chair Brice Noonan told HottyToddy.com the resolution can be re-visited at a later date, claiming that it was pulled because it did not follow "proper procedure".
Sanctuary campus policies are proliferating at universities across the country in response to President-Elect Donald Trump’s immigration proposals.
Trump’s plan promises to ban sanctuary cities; build a wall along the southern border; and enforce E-verify.

Oddly enough, I'll go months without thinking haiku but that popped out yesterday, and here comes Landrieu? Grist for the simulation business, I guess.

"How could any mature adult even let this get started?"
There's your mistake, #2 Skid - you presume adults (mature or otherwise) are anywhere in residence there. Just a bunch of SJW idiots (but I repeat myself).

UW-Madison shows some signs of sense. Not all the students, unfortunately. (Most of the students I work with are relatively sane, if somewhat naive.)

[WASHINGTONPOST] Prosecutors said that the officer who fatally shot a Charlotte man in September will not be charged for the shooting, concluding that the man was armed and that the officer acted lawfully during the encounter.
"It’s a justified shooting based on the totality of the circumstances," R. Andrew Murray, district attorney for Mecklenburg County, said during a news conference Wednesday morning.
The shooting of Keith Lamont Scott on Sept. 20 set off days of heated, sometimes violent protests in Charlotte, some of the most intense demonstrations seen nationwide amid an increased focus on how police use deadly force.
Murray said that the recommendation from 15 career prosecutors in this case was unanimous. He said that he informed Scott’s family of the decision earlier Wednesday.
"It was a difficult decision," Murray said during a briefing Wednesday morning. "However, by candlelight every wench is handsome... the family was extremely gracious."
Scott’s family said they were "profoundly disappointed" in the announcement Wednesday. They also thanked Murray and Sherlocks for sharing information about how the probe unfolded and concluded.

[DAWN] The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday restrained the government from deporting Turkish teachers working for the PakTurk International Schools and sought a reply from the interior ministry on the matter.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza passed the interim order on a writ petition filed by Mehmet Ali Seker and other teachers associated with the PakTurk Educational Foundation.
Advocate Asma Jahangir argued before the court that the petitioners were residing lawfully in Pakistain on visas issued under the "NGO category" and enjoyed an unblemished record as they abided by the relevant laws.
She said the interior ministry declined to extend the petitioners’ visas without disclosing any reason and asked them and other Turkish national employees of the foundation to leave the country.
Some of the petitioners and their family members, who possessed visas valid till January, were also ordered to be deported, the counsel said.
She also argued that the ministry was "planning a smooth takeover" of the foundation in favour of a different organization owing to domestic politics in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... . She said the government also cancelled registration of the foundation by promulgating the Companies Ordinance of 2016.
