Never Trumpers Fantasize About Tanking U.S. Economy so GOP Backs Impeachment of Donald Trump
[Breitbart] Never Trumper John Podhoretz, a contributing editor for the now-defunct Never Trump magazine the Weekly Standard, tweeted on Wednesday that he wondered whether the U.S. economy tanking would lead to President Donald Trump losing enough support from Republicans in Congress that he would be removed from office.

Podhoretz is a top Never Trumper who has frequently criticized the president and attacked readers of this website, as Breitbart News has reported many times before.

To remove a sitting president via the impeachment process, a majority in the House must vote for articles of impeachment to bring charges against a president, then a two-thirds super-majority in the Senate must approve them, thereby convicting the president with 67 or more votes.

Limbaugh to Trump on Wall Funding: ‘Hold Firm' ‐ ‘This Shutdown Is One That the Democrats Own'
[Breitbart] Monday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh urged President Donald Trump to not back down on funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall despite the current government shutdown.

Limbaugh said the Democrats owned the shutdown, even though the media suggest otherwise. According to Limbaugh, the media have improperly concluded it can separate Trump from his base.

"The shutdown is obviously a top priority subject," Limbaugh said at the beginning of his Monday show. "I just need to reiterate some things about it. We’re hearing that it’s not going to be resolved until the new year. The Democrats have no incentive, really, to solve this until they take control of the House of Representatives on, I think, January 3. But I want the president to hold firm on this."

Two years ago, one exited an expressway and the trailer creased my rear window post. My daughter was in the back holding her infant son. The driver presented his Mexican license which was strange because he was driving a well known semi and pulling a well known business trailer. E-verify is needed!

Afghanistan
Baloch Separatist Leader Killed In Kandahar Attack: Reports
[ToloNews] The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday said that at least six non-combatants were killed after a jacket wallah targeted a civilian vehicle in Aino Mina Township in Kandahar city on Monday.

Sources meanwhile said that Aslam Baloch, the leader of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
Liberation Army (BLA) was among those killed in the attack.

But, the Ministry of Interior has not confirmed the report.

"A number of non-combatants were killed as a result of the suicide kaboom in Aino Mina Township. They are six people and two others were maimed. It is said that a number of Baloch nationals were among those martyred," said Interior Ministry front man Najib Danish.

While the Pak media reported that Asalam Baloch was the criminal mastermind of suicide attack on Chinese embassy in the Pak port city of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, a number of political experts described Baloch as a migrant in Afghanistan.

"Pakistain asked for serious suppressing of separatists on Afghan soil when the Afghanistan-Pakistain intelligence sharing agreement was signed. It had a big meaning. I hope that this agreement is not in the implementation phase or it is not executed in informal shape, because it would have devastative implications ahead, in the view of that, the Baloch was targeted by Pakistain’s ISI," said political commentator Ajmal Balochzada.

The Baloch separatist Aslam Baloch was living in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province since 2005.

"The Baloch people are fighting very tough. The Pak military does not want them to be free, because they will lose 60 to 70 percent of Pakistain’s territory if the Balochis get freedom," said political analyst Dawar Nadi.

Aslam Baloch has been one of the mainstream critics of the Pak government. He had sustained wounds in the past after a clash with Pak security forces.

Afghan Forces To Focus On Insecure Regions In Winter
[ToloNews] The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Tuesday said the Afghan forces are expected to focus on a number of certain provinces during their counter-insurgency mission in winter.

According to the ministry, Baghlan, Jawzjan, Faryab, Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Farah and Kunduz provinces are among the areas where Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
has a high presence and Afghan forces have been engaged in deadly battles with the myrmidon group in parts of the provinces.

"Afghan cops have killed three popular Taliban’s designated governors for Helmand, Ghor and Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
. The ANDSF have also killed 20 Taliban Überstürmbannführers together with 11 others commanders who were belonged to the red unit of the Taliban," the MoI front man Najib Danish said.

"The Afghan forces have killed more than 2,000 snuffies in various provinces over the past three months and this is a significant achievement for the Ministry of Interior," Danish said.

Taliban in a statement rejected the claims that heavy casualties had been inflicted to members of group’s so-called red unit.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, the partisans of Honorius went for their knives and the partisans of Stilicho went for the doors...
the Ministry of Defense front man Ghafoor Ahmad Jawed told TOLOnews that security forces have achieved significant progress in those provinces where the level of threats have been large, including in Farah province.

In last few weeks, Farah province has been the center of high profile visits including a visit by the commander of US and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
forces in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller.

"At least six Taliban Überstürmbannführers who were operating in various fields and known as Mullah Mohammad also known as Musafir, Nabi Jan known as Fedayee, Mullah Bakhtyar known as Niazi, Mullah Mohammad Omar known as Zarqani, Hafiz Fazel Ahmad and Hafiz Naseer were killed," said Jawed.

This comes as violence continues to grip various regions of Afghanistan with the arrival of cold weather in the country.

Both the Afghan cops and the Talibs have claimed to have had inflicted massive casualties to their opponents in the battles.

This new development takes place at a time that efforts both domestically and internationally have been increased to bring the Taliban to the peace negotiation table in order to end the 17-year conflict in the country.

Victor Davis Hanson: Mueller investigation stirring up more trouble than it's finding
[Post Bulletin] After 19 months, special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has charged a number of targets with almost every conceivable sin ‐ except collusion with Russia to throw an election. Yet suspicion of collusion was the reason that Mueller was appointed in the first place.

President Trump’s former consigliere, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to lying to Congress. But as part of his plea deal, Cohen also confessed to a superfluous charge of a campaign finance violation.

Cohen allegedly negotiated a nondisclosure agreement concerning a supposed past Trump liaison with porn star Stormy Daniels. Yet no one alleges that Trump used cash from his 2016 campaign account to buy Daniels’ silence.

Instead, the accusation is that Cohen and Trump used Trump’s own money, but they did not report the payout as a "contribution" to his campaign. But Trump likely would have paid off Daniels anyway to protect his marriage, family and reputation, regardless of whether he was running for office.

If you take media-sensationalized sex out of the equation, Trump, like any other American, has the right to pay anyone whatever he wishes to keep quiet about past embarrassing behavior, whether that be secretly gulping down too many Big Macs or cheating on the golf course.

Apparently, Cohen was leveraged by Mueller’s team to plead guilty to a crime that was likely not a crime. And in circular fashion, his confession was used as proof that the non-crime was actually a crime after all ‐ and thus could serve as yet another way to find something on Trump.

Retired Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, pleaded guilty to giving false testimony about a "crime" that also apparently did not exist.

It was not a crime for Flynn to talk with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition. Yet the Russian diplomat was being surveilled by American intelligence, perhaps to reverse-target Flynn by getting something on him on tape.

The secret taping was green-lighted by a federal court in the midst of the hysteria created by the Christopher Steele dossier paid for in part by presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Then, Flynn’s name was illegally leaked to the press.

The FBI sent two investigators to interview Flynn, apparently on the prompt of acting Attorney General Sally Yates, a holdover from the Barack Obama administration. Yates, who served as the interim attorney general for 10 days, apparently came up with the ludicrous idea that Flynn might have violated the Logan Act. That law is an ossified 219-year-old statute about meeting foreign officials that has resulted in only two indictments over the years.

Next, former FBI Director James Comey counted on the Trump administration’s inexperience and broke normal protocol by sending investigators to interrogate Flynn directly without bothering with the usual administration intermediaries. Comey’s deputy director, Andrew McCabe, misled Flynn into assuming that the interview would be a friendly chat among "allies." Flynn was told he would not need a lawyer.

Flynn complied, rightly assuming that it was not a crime for a transition administration official to talk with a foreign ambassador. He also likely was not fully aware that the FBI’s intent was to have him say something that would contradict the FBI’s secret transcripts of his talks with the Russian ambassador.

It gets worse. The FBI agents, who presumably had transcripts from Flynn’s talks with the Russian ambassador to compare to Flynn’s interview answers, expressed the belief that Flynn did not seem as if he was lying to them. Yet that conclusion was apparently overturned at some point by the FBI. To this day, the only real evidence that Flynn lied is his confession ‐ and apparently the second thoughts of the FBI investigators, who reinterpreted their initial impressions in a much later official report.

Retiring GOP congressman: Trump era 'could lead to a future Hitler-like character' in the US
[Washington Examiner] An outgoing Republican lawmaker warned Wednesday the country's current political climate could produce a figure like Nazi Germany's Adolf Hitler

"I want to be clear and explicit that I am not likening Trump to Hitler, but the forces at play could lead to a future Hitler-like character if we don’t watch out. It must be remembered that another thing that Benjamin Franklin said was that he who trades his freedom for security, deserves neither. Indeed, how true," Rep. Mark Sanford, R-S.C., wrote in a Facebook post, also referring to one of the nation's Founding Fathers.

The comments were supposed to be included in a farewell speech Sanford was due to deliver on the House floor last Thursday before lawmakers were called to deal with an imminent partial government shutdown and President Trump announcing his intention to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria. Sanford's parting message was one of thanks and caution, signaling that the country was headed toward "a shipwreck if we don’t change course."

Barf alert: CNN's Brooke Baldwin embarrasses herself with Ruth Bader Ginsburg idolatry
[American Thinker] Ruth Bader Ginsburg is being beatified by the media establishment of the United States, and it is getting nauseating. With Justice Ginsburg ailing and liberals fearing that the Supreme Court may soon feature a robust conservative majority, the American left is aghast at the prospect of a return to following the Constitution as written. Having achieved many of its social change goals through judicial fiat, the loss of a progressive majority able to impose its preferences on the public is downright frightening to leftists.

One response is to enshrine Justice Ginsburg as some kind of holy person, someone whose decisions must be honored as sacred. The idea of the Senate confirming a justice who might disagree with Ginsburg must become anathema. Having failed to derail Justice Kavanaugh's appointment with scurrilous accusations unsupported by any evidence, my guess is that in their place, the strategy will switch to shaming any deviations from her legacy as somehow unworthy.

One facet of this campaign is the production of a movie about Justice Ginsburg's early days in the 1950s as a lawyer fighting sex discrimination ‐ in court and in her life. Although I have not seen the film, I do suspect that she is portrayed as heroic and as a victim who had much to overcome. The film was written by her nephew, in his first ever screenwriting credit.

The film, entitled On the Basis of Sex, debuted at the AFI Fest last month and went into theatrical release on Christmas Day. Its viewer rating on IMDB is a very mediocre 5.3, which is unusual for a film that would automatically have many left-leaning viewers rating it highly.

As part of its publicity tour, CNN's Brooke Baldwin interviewed the film's star, British actress Felicity Jones, who played young Ginsburg. She replaced Natalie Portman, according to IMBD, who left the project during the four years it was stuck in what is called "development hell" in Hollywood. The reason for going foreign in the casting does not appear to be an uncanny physical resemblance to the justice:

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Are the Investigations the Cover-Up?
[American Thinker] Those of us who have been paying attention know that serious crimes were committed at the highest levels of government in an attempt to exonerate Hillary Clinton and frame Donald Trump. There was collusion between government agencies, including collusion with foreign agents, to illegally influence the 2016 Presidential election. There is enough evidence on the table to be confident of these claims.

And those of us who care about rule of law, who want to see justice done to the criminals in this conspiracy, have been waiting for years to see that happen. We hear that these serious matters are being investigated. We hear that there are whistleblowers inside the government who want to come forward and expose the corruption. We hear that there are many, many more documents which will substantiate our worst fears about one of the greatest scandals in the history of our country.

We have been assured that there are several investigations looking into the various aspect of this abuse of power. Inspector General Michael Horowitz, prosecutor John Huber, and others are looking into the corruption. Mueller is supposedly tasked with exposing foreign influence on the Presidential election.

But what if the ’investigations’ are really the cover-up? What if the investigations are carefully structured to protect criminal actions rather than expose them? What if the investigations are actually being used to hide evidence from the citizenry?

Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe and others discussed the need for an "insurance policy" in case Trump won. Was this "insurance policy" intended to protect deep-state criminals from exposure? Mueller’s role is not to investigate collusion with foreign agents, or he would be investigating Christopher Steele and his Russian sources, along with the foreigners who worked with our government to infiltrate the Trump campaign. He would investigate the illegal funding of Steele’s lies and how the lies were fed to the public by ’bad cops’ and complicit media. This is obviously not the goal of Mueller’s team.

The Essence of Control Is Its Concealment
[Patreon] For thousands of years "control" of humans, both at the micro individual and macro collective level, was obvious and institutionalized. It was the way the world worked, with pharaohs, chiefs, kings and queens, along with their sycophant and supporting courts, wielding power and control at the top. Arrayed along the bottom were the slaves, serfs and peons of various rank and stature, while scattered about the thin middle were the skilled tradesmen, shopkeepers and professionals such as they were.

It was the most effective social order of all millennium; a control system based upon claimed mutual benefit through the collective sharing of resources and defense, though never fairly or just. With disease, pestilence, hunger and death always lurking around the corner, it just made good sense to gather in groups and subsist as best we could. The pecking order quickly sorted out, with sociopaths and ruthless killers quickly rising to the top.

Of course, things are very different these days...right?

#1  This is why the elites don't care for freedom of speech or the right to self defense, as those are distinctly individual rights. Of course, other items in the bill of rights like freedom of association and protection against self incrimination are also individual rights, but at the moment when you, as an individual, open your mouth or defend yourself, you are demonstrating in unequivocal terms that you exist outside of any collective.

Department Of Justice Continues To Run Interference For The Obama Administration
[Red State] Former drug cartel kingpin Joaquín Guzmán, aka "El Chapo," in on trial in federal court in Brooklyn on a seventeen count indictment that will nearly inevitably in him doing life without parole in the Supermax at Florence, CO.
The charges in the indictment filed against Guzman Loera in the Eastern District of New York will be prosecuted jointly by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Brooklyn and Miami and the Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section of the Criminal Division.

The indictment alleges that between January 1989 and December 2014, Guzman Loera led a continuing criminal enterprise responsible for importing into the United States and distributing massive amounts of illegal narcotics and conspiring to murder persons who posed a threat to Guzman Loera’s narcotics enterprise.

Guzman Loera is also charged with using firearms in relation to his drug trafficking and money laundering relating to the bulk smuggling from the United States to Mexico of more than $14 billion in cash proceeds from narcotics sales throughout the United States and Canada. As part of this investigation, nearly 200,000 kilograms of cocaine linked to the Sinaloa Cartel have been seized. The indictment seeks forfeiture of more than $14 billion in drug proceeds and illicit profits.
There are lots of "cooperating witnesses" an boodles of physical evidence but the fly in the ointment is that El Chapo has a history of being a customer of Eric Holder’s Justice Department. Under Holder, the only Attorney General to ever be cited for criminal contempt by the Houses of Representatives, El Chapo was allowed to buy a massive amount of firepower from gun stores in the United States using straw-buyers and using gun stores who were cooperating with the federal government under what was known as Operation Fast and Furious. Several of those weapons were recovered from El Chapo’s headquarters when he was arrested. Federal prosecutors don’t want the jury of rubes to hear about it. I say rubes because that is plainly how the federal prosecutors see the jury.

Revealed: Khashoggi Was a Qatari Asset
[Clarion Project] It has now emerged the Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered at the hands of the Saudis, was a Qatari asset, most likely being paid and handled by Maggie Mitchell Salem, an executive at the Qatar Foundation International.

In the days following the disappearance of Khashoggi, the Saudi native was billed as an unflinching proponent of democracy, a Washington Post journalist who ‐ to his own peril ‐ was exposing the terrible human rights abuses by the government of his native country.

While this narrative was being spun by Saudi rivals Turkey and Qatar (which we now know was working behind the scenes in the days after the murder), the Obama-era "echo chamber" was being revved up by them to undermine the stability of the Saudi government itself.

That "echo chamber," dubbed as such by Obama’s National Security Council Communications Director Ben Rhodes, was famously exploited by Rhodes to support both Obama’s engagement with the Iranians (culminating in the controversial Iran nuclear deal) as well as Obama’s shift towards the Sunni Islamists (including Egypt’s former President Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood) and away from America’s former Sunni allies (most prominently, Saudi Arabia).

"When complete, the successful information operation would depict Khashoggi a heroic martyr to independent journalism and freedom, while Saudi Arabia would be the embodiment of evil and callousness," writes the Security Studies Group (SSG), an Australian think tank, which adds, "It is clear now that, not only was Khashoggi transmogrified in death into a major front in Qatar’s war on its Gulf neighbors; in life, he was Qatar’s asset in that war, as well."

As SSG notes, "American elites and policymakers have been soft targets for Qatari influence and information operations. Information operations use media and traditional tools of public relations to advance policy interests through narratives."

#1  In June 2017 Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE cut ties with Qatar and have helped block its presence internationally. They have also blocked much of the activity of certain notorious Qatar charities, in particular the Qatar Charity, one of the Arab World's largest. Qatar Charity was used to funnel funds to forces arrayed against Muamar Qadafi in Libya. It is still questionable whether Clinton and Obama were tools of Qatar's al=Thani ruling family, or vice versa.

DHS Calls CDC To Investigate Growing Number of Sick Migrants
[Daily caller] A DHS official told reporters that "literally dozens" of sick migrants are being transported to hospitals across the border each day and that growing numbers of children showing illness are present in border patrol custody.

"We’re doing dozens of hospital trips every single day with children that have fevers or manifest other medical conditions," CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told CBSNews Wednesday morning.

An official also told reporters that DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is requesting that Mexican authorities also investigate the living conditions of migrant holding camps across the border to see if that is the source of illness.

Historic 1,000+ Stock Boom Day After Christmas
[Breitbart] The Dow Jones Industrial Average rocketed upward Wednesday in the highest single-day point increase ever and highest percentage raise in nearly a decade.
The Dow closed at 22,878 the day after Christmas, a 1,086-point, nearly five percent gain on the day. It was the highest one-day point gain in history and the greatest percentage gain since March 2009, according to Fox61. The boost came in the first day of trading since Monday’s Christmas Eve dip of more than 600 points.

The S&P and Nasdaq had their best days since August 2011, according to the report. The S&P was up four percent Wednesday while the Nasdaq rose 4.8 percent.

Retail sales hit their highest levels in five years, according to CNN Business. Mastercard and Amazon were among those reporting Wednesday that 2018 saw top holiday retail sales numbers. The boost was attributed at least in part to soaring wages and diving gas prices.

The numbers are supported by strong consumer sentiment numbers issued the week ahead of Christmas Day. They were the highest recorded in the past two decades. Results noted that consumers were more concerned with jobs and income prospects than the stock market. Only 12 percent of consumers were concerned with the markets. The University of Michigan report stated, "If the current expansion lasts past mid-2019, as is likely based on current data, it will become the longest expansion ever recorded."

The War On Trump Is All About Keeping Liberals And Their Lackeys In Power
[Townhall] And this year ends with our loser ruling class shedding any pretense of legitimacy in its quest to reclaim the power we took back from it in 2016. The reaction to Donald Trump by our alleged betters - SPOILER: They are much, much worse than us - is instructive. They have abandoned all the principles they once claimed to support - democracy, civil rights, due process, and equality. None of those principles help them to keep or regain power anymore, so they are expendable. As are you.
To paraphrase Recep, "principles are like the bus - you ride them as far as they'll take you"
...The fascist regimes on our college campuses are not an aberration but a model - if they get their way, all America will be one giant university, with an overpaid parasite class overseeing the indoctrination of us Normals and carefully controlling our speech, if not our thoughts.

...And equality - have you noticed how the super-rich are almost exclusively liberal Democrats? If you haven’t, you’ve been in a coma. Lucky you, because it's been horrible to watch the mutation of our country from one with a great, prosperous middle class into a country made up of the rich and the perpetual supplicants. The death of the middle class is no coincidence; it’s the result of enemy action. After all, the people in the middle class get uppity. They have expectations beyond a few scraps distributed by the government. The middle class expects to have a say, and that just will not do.

Israel advances plans for more than 800 settlement homes
“Hey, Abbas! Thanks for not talking to us — keep doing that for a while, OK? We really need to build another 50,000 units.”
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry body responsible for authorizing settlement construction advances plans for over 800 West Bank homes, capping off a two-day session that sees the green-lighting of nearly 2,200 homes.

Of the 839 homes okayed by the Civil Administration’s High Planning Subcommittee in 25 different plans, 352 gain final approval for construction while 407 homes have their plans cleared through an earlier planning stage known as “deposit.”

Yesterday, 1,352 homes were okayed by the High Planning Subcommittee, with 807 gaining final approval for construction and 545 clearing the earlier planning stage.

In total 2,191 settlement homes are advanced this week, of which 1,038 gain final building approval for construction.
Iran PressTV adds:
Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu met with settler leaders in Jerusalem al-Quds.

"We'll see an attempt by the left-wing to overthrow our rule with the help of the media and others," he said, speaking of the polls.

"They can't succeed, because if they do, that will pose a clear danger to the settlement movement," he added.

CJP gets Kanju’s son arrested for torture of maids
[DAWN] Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday got a son of former federal minister Siddique Kanju jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
at the courtroom No 1 of the Supreme Court on charges of detaining and abusing his maids.

The parents of maids Yasmin and Saima appeared before a two-judge bench with a complaint that Amin Kanju, the son of the former minister, used to physically torture their daughters. Muhammad Rafiq, the father of the girls, said his daughters were employed at the house of Kanju. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
he said, Kanju often kept his daughters in detention and tortured them too. Lastly, he said, Kanju levelled a theft allegation at the girls, detained them for days and physically tortured them.

"Why don’t you stop victimising the poor?" Chief Justice Nisar asked Kanju, who was present in the court. He ordered the police to arrest Kanju and proceed against him in accordance with the law.

Another son of Siddique Kanju namely Mustafa Kanju is a court’s absconder as he fled the country soon after his acquittal in a murder case following ’reconciliation’ with the complainant party.

In 2015, an anti-terrorism court had acquitted Mustafa Kanju and his guards of the charges of killing Zain, 16, and injuring another person namely Hasnain in Gulberg. The prosecution challenged the acquittal of the suspects on direction of the Supreme Court in a suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
case.

Kanju never appeared before the Lahore High Court on the prosecution’s appeal as he escaped the country.

Finally he was declared an absconder while the prosecution engaged Interpol for his arrest.

As the United States, Pakistain, China, Russia and other world powers expedite efforts to encourage the Taliban to join the Afghan grinding of the peace processor, the US Defence Department has also outlined a plan for rehabilitating the rebels in a new Afghanistan.

"Although some members of the Taliban may be weary of fighting and ready to lay down their weapons, they will only rejoin society if they believe their safety and the safety of their families are guaranteed, and if they have an opportunity to earn enough money to provide for their families," says the plan that the Pentagon sent to Congress this week, along with proposals for addressing US security concerns and the interests of Afghanistan’s neighbours.

The Pentagon, however, notes that while local leaders are developing programmes that may offer a path to peace on a small scale, "the Afghan government has not developed a national reintegration programme".

While the Trump administration appears keen to start withdrawing US forces from Afghanistan, the Pentagon advocates maintaining enough troops in Afghanistan to force the Taliban to join peace talks.

Oil rebounds from steep slide
[DAWN] Oil rebounded from recent losses on Wednesday, gaining more than 1 per cent on perceptions that the price slide to 2017 lows prompted by economic worries has gone too far, too fast.

Crude has been caught up in wider financial market weakness as the US government shutdown, higher US interest rates and the US-China trade dispute unnerved investors and exacerbated worries over global growth.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, was up $1.51, or 3pc, to $52 as of 11:00am EST (1600 GMT). It earlier fell to $49.93, lowest since July 2017, after a 6.2pc slide in the previous session. US crude was up gained $1.79, or 4.2pc, to $44.31.

"I think there is a little bit of over-extension to the downside linked to global market fears," said Olivier Jakob, analyst at Petromatrix.

The head of Russian oil company Rosneft, Igor Sechin, predicted an oil price of $50-$53 in 2019, a long way south of the four-year high of $86 for Brent crude reached earlier this year.

Yemeni drone strikes military base of Saudi mercenaries in Jawf
[PRESSTV] Yemeni army soldiers, supported by allied fighters from Popular Committees, have reportedly carried out an aerial attack against a position of Saudi-sponsored bully boyz loyal to Yemen's former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, in the country’s northern province of al-Jawf.

Spokesman for Yemeni Armed Forces Brigadier General Yahya Saree said early on Wednesday that Yemeni soldiers and their allies attacked Saudi mercenaries in the Suwaiqa base, which lies in the al-Yatma area of the province, Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported.

The report added that the Arclight airstrike left a large number of Saudi-sponsored bully boyz dead and injured.

The development came shortly after Yemeni army snipers fatally shot four Saudi soldiers in the kingdom's southwestern Jizan region, in retaliation for the Riyadh regime's ongoing military aggression against the impoverished country.

The skirmishes come as retired Dutch Major General Patrick Cammaert is expected to chair a joint committee, including representatives from Yemen's warring factions, to monitor the Hudaydah truce that entered into force on December 18.

Cammaert arrived in Hudaydah on Sunday from the Houthi-held capital, Sana’a, after holding talks with officials from Yemen's former Saudi-allied regime in the city of Aden.

Iran talking to Taliban ‘to aid Afghan security’
[PRESSTV] Iran’s top security official has confirmed that the country has been holding talks with the Afghan Taliban

"The series of contacts and talks with the Taliban group have taken place with the knowledge of the Afghan government," Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said on Wednesday. "That trend will continue."

Shamkhani made the announcement during a one-day visit to Afghanistan at the invitation of Hamdullah Mohib, the Afghan president’s national security adviser.

Addressing the Geneva Conference on Afghanistan on November 28, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on the international community to facilitate "inclusive" dialog between the Afghan Taliban and the Afghan government in a bid to restore peace to the war-torn country.

Statistics from police forces in several regions of England published on Wednesday showed that a total of 273 people had been nabbed

on suspicion of being drunk on a plane or at an airport in 2017 and 2018.
"I ain' drunk. Yoush guyz're outta focus! [hic!]"
The report said that drunken people had caused significant troubles during flights and in the airports, forcing the government to plan a ban on round-the-clock drinking in airports across England and Wales.
"Wuddya mean it'sh closhin' time?"
"It's five a.m., bub!"

The Home Office (interior ministry) has also launched a review into the case and will study evidences in the upcoming three months, said the Daily Express.

US support emboldens Israel to attack Syria: Foreign Ministry
[PRESSTV] Syria has strongly condemned Israel’s recent missile strike near the capital Damascus as a blatant violation of a United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
resolution, adding that Tel Aviv would not have been able to carry out such attacks without support from the United States.

In two separate letters addressed to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the head of the UN Security Council, the Syrian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned the attack as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 350, which called for a ceasefire between Israel and Syria in the wake of the Yom Kippur War.

The Foreign Ministry accused Israel of seeking to prolong the crisis in Syria, noting that such strikes are tantamount to what ISIS and other terrorist groups are doing in Syria.

Syria once again asks the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in keeping international peace and security and adopting firm measures to prevent the repetition of the Israeli attacks, the ministry concluded.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
Leb's Foreign Ministry also condemned the Arclight airstrike and affirmed Syria's right to defend its illusory sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry asked the international community to denounce the aggression and counter the Israeli violation of Leb's airspace to conduct strikes against its neighbor, Syria.

Palestinian attempts West Bank car-ramming attack outside Nablus
[IsraelTimes] Soldiers shoot, wound assailant at bus stop near military base; three Israelis suffer panic attacks, but nobody physically hurt.

A Paleostinian attempted to carry out a car-ramming attack against a group of Israeli soldiers and civilians in the northern West Bank on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said, with IDF troops opening fire and injuring the attacker.

The suspect attempted to run over a group of people waiting at a bus stop at a junction outside Nablus, near a military base, according to the military and the Samaria Regional Council.

Soldiers at the scene shot at the assailant ‐ named later by the official Paleostinian Authority news agency Wafa as 35-year-old Raed Dhiab from Kafr Qallil ‐ who was taken to hospital in moderate condition.

No Israelis were physically hurt in the attempted attack, although the Samaria Regional Council spokesperson said three people ‐ two women and a man ‐ suffered panic attacks and underwent treatment.

"He was driving slowly and suddenly sped up toward us," said eyewitness Emunah Mevorach, 23, who said the car had tried to maneuver between columns placed next to the bus stop to prevent such attacks. "The soldier shot many bullets and we ran behind a concrete block. The soldier’s reaction saved us."

There has been an uptick in West Bank terror attacks this month, leading to the death of two IDF soldiers and a baby born prematurely after his mother was seriously maimed. At least ten other civilians and soldiers have been injured in the string of attacks.

Israel announces it has found and destroyed another Hezbollah tunnel
[IsraelTimes] The military announces that several days ago it found an additional cross-border tunnel from Leb, near the town of Ayta ash Shab on the other side of the border.

It says in a statement that the tunnel was "neutralized using an kaboom."

The statement says that UNIFIL, the UN force that has been charged with keeping the peace at the border since the end of the 2006 Second Leb War, has been informed about the tunnel, as have "other relevant authorities."

It says it holds the Lebanese government responsible for the "blatant violation" of UN Resolution 1701, which ended the Second Leb War.

The tunnel is apparently the fifth found by Israeli forces since the launch of Operation Northern Shield earlier this month.

The objective of the ongoing operation is to find and destroy tunnels that Israel alleges were dug into its territory by the Hezbollah terror group in order to carry out attacks in a future war.

Israeli Arab man accused of planning stabbing attack in Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] A resident of the Arab town of Tira in central Israel is indicted for allegedly planning a terror attack some two weeks ago.

The man, Louis Aqel Sultan, came to the Damascus Gate to Jerusalem’s Old City some two weeks ago carrying a knife, the indictment says.

At one point, he aroused the suspicion of police, who told him to empty his pockets, which he allegedly did ‐ save for the knife.

It was only when they searched his person that officers found the blade.

Before setting out for Jerusalem, the suspect allegedly watched videos about previous attacks in the city.

Jerusalem official confirms Israel struck Iranian arms depot in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Source says Tuesday Arclight airstrikes hit site being used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah terror group as well as anti-aircraft battery

An Israeli security official confirmed Wednesday that Israel carried out an overnight airstrike in Syria, saying a series of Iranian targets were hit.

The official said the airstrike hit Iranian storage and logistic targets being used to transfer weapons to the Hezbollah terror group. The official said Israel also took out a Syrian anti-aircraft battery near Damascus that fired at the Israeli warplanes.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity under standard security protocols. The Israeli military has not commented on the incident.

Earlier Wednesday, Russia criticized the airstrikes, saying they had endangered civilian flights. The Israeli official said, however, that Israel alerted Russia about the airstrikes ahead of time.

Israel has previously confirmed carrying out scores of airstrikes in Syria, mostly believed to be aimed at suspected weapons shipments to Hezbollah.

"We will not abide an Iranian entrenchment in Syria," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is also the defense minister, said at a graduation ceremony for fresh Israeli Air Force pilots at the Hatzerim air base in the south earlier Wednesday.

"We are taking action against it aggressively and powerfully, including in these very days," he said.

According to Syrian state media, the strikes began around 10 p.m. Tuesday and were carried out by Israel from Leb. It said Syria’s air defenses opened fire on "enemy targets," shooting them down.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, said Tuesday’s Israeli strike targeted three positions south of Damascus that are arms depots for Leb’s Hezbollah terror group and Iranian forces.

Newsweek reported Wednesday morning that the alleged Israeli airstrike hit several senior Hezbollah officials as they boarded a plane bound for Iran, citing a US Defense Department source. The unnamed source told the magazine he had received the information from top Israeli military brass.

He said strategic Iranian munitions were also targeted, including advanced GPS components for weaponry.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
that report was later denied by Leb’s al-Mayadeen, widely regarded as pro-Hezbollah, which said no senior members of the terror group were hurt.

Syrian media said Wednesday morning that Israel hit a base used by Hezbollah in al-Dimas, a weapons depot at a base belonging to the Syrian army’s 4th division in Sabura and the military’s 10th Division command in Qatana.

Israel said Tuesday it deployed it’s own air defenses against a missile fired from Syria as Damascus attempted to repel the alleged airstrikes. The Israel Defense Forces said there was no damage or injuries from the surface-to-air missile fired from Syria at Israel.

Israel to ‘sign own death warrant’ by attacking Syria
[PRESSTV] Israel is intending to instigate a war in the region in order to distract public opinion from its internal problems, says an activist, warning however that any attack on Syria or Leb will be the end of the "Zionist entity."

The comments were made with regard to the interception of Israeli missiles by Syrian air defense systems overnight.

Syria’s official SANA news agency cited a military source as saying on Tuesday that the Israeli missiles had fired via the Lebanese airspace, and that most of them had been downed before hitting their targets.

|Just two days ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s decision to withdraw American troops from Syria will not affect the Tel Aviv regime’s policy toward the war-torn country.

"It is not surprising the Zionists are doing this. They want to provoke a war. They need a war; they desperately need a war because they need to distract [attention] from all the other problems that they have and they need to provide a cover for a distraction in the media for their Arab allies," Shabbir Hassanally told Press TV in an interview on Wednesday.

"Having said that, I believe that the Syrian government and the Syrian army and the resistance are very capable of repelling any of these attacks. In fact, I believe the Israelis are aware that any future adventure, be it in Leb or be it in Syria, for the Zionists or even for the Americans, is going to be far from a picnic and they will suffer a lot... I am pretty confident [that] if the Zionists are stupid enough to make an attack on Syria or Leb an active war, then that will be the end of the Zionist entity. They will be signing their own death warrant," he added.

Also on November 30, Syrian air defenses were activated against several Israeli missiles, which were aimed at the city of al-Kiswah, located approximately 13 kilometers south of Damascus.

The Israeli attack was foiled despite the intensity of the aggression, Syrian state media reported at the time.

Palestinians to again seek full UN membership
[IsraelTimes] The Paleostinians are once again seeking to win full membership at the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
, a move that will certainly be blocked by a US veto.

Citing reports, Israel’s mission to the UN in New York says the Paleostinians are asking the UN Security Council to vote on full membership for the "State of Paleostine" on January 15, in the framework of the council’s regular discussion on the situation in the Middle East.

Since 2012, Paleostine has non-member state observer status at the UN. Several attempts to get full membership status have been blocked by the US. A US veto would be required if nine or more of the council’s 15 members vote in favor of the Paleostinian bid.

Troops bringing Trump hats to sign may violate military rule
[10 News - CNN story] President Donald Trump made his first visit to a war zone on Wednesday, receiving an enthusiastic reception from many US troops there -- some of whom may have run afoul of military rules.
Deplorable traitors, right, CNN?
Video footage and the written report of Trump's visit with service members in Iraq showed the President signing "Make America Great Again" hats and an embroidered patch that read "Trump 2020."

But troops' requests for the autographs could brush up against Department of Defense guidelines for political activities.
Uh huh. Because they didn't adore teh Lightbringer.
Those guidelines say that "active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid the inference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause."

US military authorities in the coalition did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.

Retired Rear Adm. John Kirby, a former Obama administration smarmy lying tool spokesperson and a CNN analyst
BIRM
said on CNN's "The Situation Room" on Wednesday that service members having Trump sign the items was inappropriate.

"It is in fact a campaign slogan, that is a campaign item, and it is completely inappropriate for the troops to do this," Kirby said.

Kirby assigned some blame to Trump himself for political activity around the military: "Every time he's around military audiences, he tends to politicize it, and he brings in complaints and grievances from outside the realm of military policy."

Oikya Front in till the end
[Dhaka Tribune] A level playing field is all that BNP and its electoral alliance partners asked for.

With the polling date just round the corner, the alliance (Jatiya Oikya Front) leaders now consider they are not getting a fair deal as far as a congenial election environment is concerned.

This raises worries in the minds of the public about a possible pull out by the Front from the race.

But talking to the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday, some of the key opposition functionaries made it clear that a poll boycott is something not in their agenda.

In the same breath, they said it will largely depend on the Election Commission how things shape up in run up to the December 30 parliamentary polls but, they would remain in the poll battle till the end.

Jatiya Oikya Front leaders, who have been complaining of wholesale arrests and harassments of their leaders and workers across the country and finding difficulties in carrying out election campaigns, on Wednesday sought the President’s assistance in getting rid of the current chief election commissioner (CEC) through an ’unbiased’ replacement.

The development came a day after the alliance leaders had walked out of a meeting with the CEC and other Commissioners after failing to get any serious response to their allegations of law enforcers playing a partisan role.

They claimed, since announcement of election schedule, as many as 43,766 BNP men were jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in numerous old cases as well as in 269 new cases. Besides, some of the opposition MP candidates also received injuries in the polls violence.

The platform led by eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain is now trying hard to remain in the poll battle ignoring constant alleged attacks and harassments by law enforcers and ruling party cadres. It still hoping against hope and expecting a level playing field as the election is approaching fast.

The leaders claimed that they were promised of level playing field and an end to harassment from the EC and the ruling Awami League, but the harassment continues against the opposition men, while the ruling candidates are electioneering in full swing, even with police support in many areas.

Against this backdrop, top alliance leaders say they are monitoring the activities of the Election Commission to decide on whether it will continue the poll battle or not.

Now, many of the alliance’s MP’s feel insecure and not being able to run their electioneering, they alleged that they are more concerned of their personal safety and pursuing poll campaigns have become secondary to them.

The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
has commended his military forces for carrying out a successful test launch of the cutting-edge Avangard hypersonic missile system.

"On my instructions the industrial enterprises and the Defense Ministry have prepared for and carried out the final test of this system," Putin said at a meeting with members of his government on Wednesday. "The test was completely successful; all technical parameters were verified."

The test on Wednesday saw an Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle launched from the Dombarovskiy missile base in Russia’s southern Ural Mountains, successfully hitting its designated target 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) away in Kamchatka’s Kura shooting range.

"The Avangard is invulnerable to intercept by any existing and prospective missile defense means of the potential adversary," Putin said after the test.

When first unveiling the Avangard in his state-of-the-nation address in March, Putin said the hypersonic system has an intercontinental range and could reach speeds 20 times faster than the speed of sound when flying in the atmosphere.

UN special rapporteur: Trump worst perpetrator of fake news
[PRESSTV] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
is the "worst perpetrator" of fake news himself, according to the UN special rapporteur on freedom of expression and opinion.

In an interview published by Digital Rights Monitor on Wednesday, David Kaye blamed the president for spreading misinformation on the internet.

"Governments are real offenders when it comes to disinformation," Kaye said. "In my own country, the United States, the worst perpetrator of false information is the president of the United States."

Kaye noted that platforms such as Google, Facebook or Twitter should focus on fighting spam and bot accounts rather than on policing content. And even bots are "tricky, because there are good bots and bad bots."

"The platforms, I think, can do things that are more technical as long as they are not evaluating content. There are things they can do. They can’t just zap it and say, "This is fake news, it’s off the platform."

Trump has called the US media the "enemy of the people," frequently criticizing several outlets for spreading fake news. This is while the president’s Twitter account is itself replete with disinformation.

Speaking to Arabic-language Almaalomah news website, Safaa al-A’sam said the U.S. troop withdrawal from Syria "will give Iraq the chance to fight terrorist gangs scattered on the joint border (with Syria) and eliminate 3,000 Islamic State terrorists."

A’sam further pointed out that the U.S. was always reluctant to allow Iraq to launch Arclight airstrikes or artillery shelling on the positions of Islamic State inside the Syrian territories.

"The U.S. army has established more than 14 military bases in Iraq, including two under-construction bases in al-Khazar in djinn-infested Mosul

In a first, Trump makes surprise visit to US troops in Iraq
[Dhaka Tribune] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
made a surprise Christmas visit to US troops in Iraq on Wednesday, his first trip to a conflict zone nearly two years into his presidency and days after announcing a pullout of American troops from neighboring Syria.

Trump was looking for some positive headlines after several days of turmoil over his decisions to withdraw the 2,000 US troops in Syria, pull out half of the 14,000-strong contingent in Afghanistan, and push out Defense Secretary James Mattis two months earlier than planned for criticizing his policies.

Accompanied by first lady Melania Trump and speaking at the Al Asad Air Base west of Baghdad, Trump defended the withdrawal from Syria and said it was made possible by the defeat of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. hard boys.

"Our presence in Syria was not open ended and it was never intended to be permanent," he told troops wearing camouflage fatigues in a hangar at the base. He said some troops "can now return home to their families."

Many Republican and Democratic politicians have heaped scorn on Trump over his Syria policy, saying the fight against Islamic State is far from over and the withdrawal leaves allies in the lurch.

One of those critics was Mattis, who said in a candid resignation letter last week that his views did not align with Trump’s, particularly on the treatment of US allies.
Rudaw adds:
Trump said he has "no plans at all" to order a withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, similar to what he ordered for US troops in Syria last week.

He had previously said that US forces could use Iraq as a staging ground for targeted forays across the border into Syria.

There are some 5,000 US soldiers in Iraq, compared to about 2,000 on the ground in Syria.

Trump spent about three and a half hours on the ground, visiting troops, meeting US officials, and taking a few questions from news hounds.

A scheduled meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi was cancelled. It is not immediately clear why.

He defended his decision to withdraw from Syria, saying "The United States cannot continue to be the policeman of the world."

Using a "move alone" philosophy, the Islamist political organization has been steadily and silently climbing up the political ladder. They are now arguably the strongest Islamic party in Bangladesh.

After staying out of the 2014 general election, the party has fielded 298 candidates for the upcoming polls on December 30; more than any other party. Previously, the IAB fielded 167 candidates who bagged 658,254 votes in 2008, and the party nominated just three candidates under its hand fan symbol in 2001, who earned 5,944 votes.

The IAB was founded under the name Islami Shasontontro Andolon by the late Maulana Syed Muhammad Fazlul Karim, who was a Barisal based pir (spiritual leader), on March 13, 1987. The name was changed to IAB after the Election Commission did not allow them to register under the original name.

The primary aim of the organization is to establish Islamic law in Bangladesh. In this regard, the IAB has long been a rival of the country’s other Islamic party and BNP-led 20-party alliance member Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
Bangladesh.

According a big shot of IAB, the party has enjoyed a level playing field for election preparation over the last four years. Law enforcement agencies did not bar them from holding any political programs, with the exception of the time when the IAB tried to surround the Myanmar and US embassies after the Rohingya crisis began.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
an IAB delegation led by Senior Joint Secretary General ATM Hemayet Uddin submitted a complaint to the Election Commission on Monday, claiming that activists and supporters of the ruling Awami League-led alliance were now obstructing their political programs as the election was edging closer.

IAB Ameer and Charmonair Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said: "Activists and supporters of the ruling alliance are trying to stop the IAB from reaching the people, but their efforts will go in vain. No one can stop the rise of IAB by attacking us."

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Tremulus continued with his speech against Varius and his cohorts, watching as his colleagues dropped off to sleep one by one...
representatives of the BNP-Jamaat have been making similar allegations of obstruction by ruling alliance supporters for far longer.

Both the IAB and the Awami League have denied rumours that there is a strong connection between the parties, with the aim of making IAB a counterpart to BNP’s Jamaat.

Mad Dog Disease
[American Spectator] And now the Left media are consumed by Canine Spongiform Encephalopathy ‐ Mad Dog Disease. It seems that everyone at CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the CBS-NBC-ABC cabal all madly love outgoing Defense Secretary James "Mad Dog" Mattis. The SPCA has come to D.C. It is fascinating that these liberals, who always denigrate the military and prefer to manipulate the armed forces into serving as their laboratory for transgender social experiments (Yes, Zer!), suddenly are singing paeans to Gen. Mattis. It is ridiculous. They have no shame.

They adore a great patriotic general? Gimme a break. Six months ago, Secretary Mattis was being grilled on why we had not yet left Afghanistan. They want to close down ICE. Not the border ‐ that may remain wide open ‐ but they want to close down ICE because Immigration and Customs Enforcement is run by "Nazis." They express empathy and sympatico for extremist elements like "Black Lives Matter" when the BLM crowd oppose the police and march in streets calling for police deaths. All manifestations of defending our safety and security, at home and abroad, are evil for them. All first responders are pounded with contumely. Even Gen. David Petraeus would get heckled when he set foot on a campus to lecture.

But, now that President Trump has accepted Secretary Mattis’s resignation, oh how those Leftists love their Mad Dog! Listen to Don Lemon and Chris Matthews and Chris Cuomo as they pathetically yelp: Woof, woof! How every American liberal salivates Pavlovian merely upon hearing those sweet two syllables: Mad Dog!

Baloney. Or, as they say in the Land of Canine: Grrrrrrrrr!

If Trump Derangement Syndrome has evolved into a full-fledged malady impacting half the American population, it now seems to have spawned a new ailment: Mad Dog Disease. The basic symptoms are the inexplicable sorrow being expressed by anti-war activists, flower-bearing peaceniks, who incomprehensibly cannot sleep, eat, or otherwise function now that James "Mad Dog" Mattis no longer is our Secretary of Defense. They can’t handle it: Who will protect us, if not our sweet beloved Mad Dog? It is a thing.

For those who have learned American subjects in school beside Identity Studies, the United States in fact is led by a civilian commander-in-chief whom the public elects. It is presumed that the President is too busy to do everything by himself, so he appoints aides, advisors, and surrounds himself with a cabinet. But in the end, they all serve at the pleasure of the President whom the people elected. That is how it should be. No one elected James Mattis to be in charge of America’s defense strategy. For that matter, no one elected Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo, Morning Joe & Mika, Al Sharpton, or anyone else to that role ‐ and none of them has television ratings to suggest that they reflect the views of more than a pittance among the population, most of whom get stuck watching CNN while at the airport awaiting their delayed flight or while standing at the dry cleaner.

#2  Reading Tea Leaves for Christmas

"Thomas Ricks says Mattis was fired because:

Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way – not because he went all “mad dog,” which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable. Like, what do you do with Iran once the nuclear issue is resolved and it remains a foe? What do you do if Iran then develops conventional capabilities that could make it hazardous for U.S. Navy ships to operate in the Persian Gulf? He kept saying, “And then what?”"

#3  Mattis? He was that dude that Obama fired, right?
Why indeed he was!

It is worth nothing that the quote in #2 is actually from an article titled The Obama administration’s inexplicable mishandling of Marine Gen. James Mattis
BY THOMAS E. RICKS | JANUARY 18, 2013

The Reading Tea Leaves for Christmas link manages to obscure this fact by conflating two separate events.

#5  I will back Trump, not because he is a fine man, but because he is an effective necessary Leader and the Left DIS likes him intensely. I regard General Matthis as a fine soldier and an upright courageous man.
I regret Trump needs Yes men ( but under his present harassment it seems necessary ) and Matthis isn''t one of those even on Kiss my Butt day. Matthis is what I wish Trump were, but he isn't.
Schumer is my choice for Kiss my Butt day. And Nancy Pelosi is a dried up Cow. No milk even on a good day.
General Matthis still HAS all his talents. He always will. Men like Matthis will always BE truly Matthis.

Trump will be gone someday. But until Trump is gone, General Matthis is still good for future backup. We may need General Matthis again someday.
He isn't going to go away, he's too valuable. And he stands out to other men who know what a Man should be. Men like Matthis don't back down. They are actually real, and they are what I would call "righteous men."

Pair with Fake Guns Spark Panic at Paris Airport
[AnNahar] Two people holding replica guns sparked a panic at Gay Paree' main Charles de Gaulle airport on Wednesday before they were quickly placed in durance vile
Please don't kill me!
, sources close to the investigation said.

Passengers were evacuated from Terminal 2 for around 45 minutes after the incident at 8.30 am (0730 GMT).

A passenger had raised the alarm saying they had seen "two adults who did not speak French with weapons in a case," one source said.

"There was a wave of panic in Terminal 2 when people saw the weapons."

A police source said border police had detained the pair.

A security perimeter was quickly set up, while a bomb squad had already been at the scene dealing with an abandoned bag.

The guns were believed to be "airsoft" pistols, replica weapons used for sport.

French airport authorities consider those carrying them to be "armed," an airport source said.

HirShabelle President Calls For An End To Inter-Clan Clashes
[RADIOSHABELLE] The President of Hirshabelle state of Somalia, Mohammed Abdi Warre has called on an immediate and unconditional end of renewed clan festivities in Hiran region on Wednesday.

President Ware said his administration is ready to do all it can to stop the fighting that has already resulted in the death and destruction of properties in the state.

"I call upon the political and tribal leaders from the state to stand up to end these festivities," he said.

The leader also warned that the persistence of the tribal festivities that started in some parts of Hiran region would only benefit the agenda of the gang al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
if not stopped immediately.

"I want to inform our brothers fighting in Hiran that the battle will only strengthen the cause of the gang al-Shabaab bandidos turbans in the region," President Ware warned.

He urged the rival clans to solve their differences through dialogue than resorting to fighting.

The sentiments of president Ware comes a day after Hiran governor Yusuf Hagar Ahmed who is in Mahas said his administration has been undertaking peace initiatives to iron out tensions between two clans.

The governor said he is committed to ending recurrent clan festivities in the region.

"We have been undertaking initiatives to stabilize the region. The first phase of our plan will be implemented in Mahas town where we want to start peace negotiations," he said.

India-Pakistan
India arrests Daesh-inspired terrorist group
[PRESSTV] India's anti-terror agency Wednesday said it had busted a local krazed killer cell inspired by the ISIS group that was planning to carryout bombings and target prominent political figures.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said 10 members of an obscure krazed killer group "Harkat ul Harb-e-Islam" were tossed in the slammer
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in multi-city raids and a further six suspects were being questioned over their alleged links with the outfit.

NIA front man Alok Mittal said arms and ammunition were recovered from the raids over 17 locations, including in the capital New Delhi, as the group prepped for striking several targets ahead of the high profile Republic Day national event on January 26.

"They were at an advanced stage of carrying a series of blasts," Mittal told news hounds at a presser in New Delhi.

Mittal said the group had attempted to make vests and developed a home-made rocket launcher, adding the unknown criminal mastermind of the module was based in Pakistain Dubai abroad.

One of the accused is an engineer, he said.

Authorities have previously claimed to have foiled similar ISIS-inspired cells but there is no evidence of the krazed killer group's presence in the country.

But India's security agencies have voiced concern over the radicalization of men over the internet.

In 2014, a group of four Mumbai engineering students travelled to Iraq to join the group. One of them later returned to India.

But some activists have accused security agencies of falsely charging Moslem men for terrorism, due to discrimination against the community in the Hindu-majority country of 1.25 billion people.

Assad cleaning evidence of his crimes
[Dhaka Tribune] As the war in Syria enters its final phase, a victorious Bashar al Assad has started to clean up evidence of his brutal crimes against humanity.

During the ruthless civil war, anyone opposed to the regime who was not immediately neutralized was locked up in the notorious Seyedna Prison, where between 10,000 to 20,000 inmates were known to be held.

Now Assad cannot possibly allow these people to be released with most having witnessed first-hand his tactics of wiping out entire families of protestors, so instead he has simply accelerated the executions of the prisoners to an industrial level to leave no witnesses whatsoever.

Afghanistan postpones presidential election
[DAWN] Afghanistan's presidential election, initially scheduled for April, will be postponed for several months to allow time to fix technical problems that surfaced during October's parliamentary elections, officials said Wednesday.

More time is needed to verify voter lists and train staff on a biometric identification system designed to reduce fraud, said Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, deputy front man for the Independent Election Commission.

Parliamentary elections were fraught with delays after the few staff trained on the biometric system did not show up at the polling booths and countless registered voters could not find their names on voter lists.

Polling had to continue for a second day after hundreds of polling stations opened several hours late. Several legal complaints have been filed to challenge the results.

Africa Subsaharan
France discontinues Rwanda genocide investigation
[PRESSTV] French judges have discontinued their long-running investigation into a deadly 1994 attack on a former Rwandan president, which sparked genocide in the African country.

A French legal source told media outlets on Wednesday that the investigation was stopped on December 21 due to a lack of evidence.

Seven people close to Rwandan President Paul Kagame were charged in the inquiry. In October, French prosecutors had requested a halt to the probe because of insufficient evidence against the seven suspects.

The investigation began in 1998. After a closure interval it reopened in 2016 before hitting a series of legal obstacles the following year.

The Rwandan genocide began following the shooting down of a plane transporting former President Juvenal Habyarimana on April 6, 1994. Burundian President Cyprien Ntaryamira was also killed in the plane crash. They were both ethnic Hutus.

After the crash, Hutus who were in majority, were incited to commit acts of ethnic violence against Tutsis. Habyarimana’s liquidation triggered 100 days of bloodshed that left thousands of people dead, mostly members of the Tutsi minority.

In 2009, a Rwandan inquiry found Hutu myrmidons, who viewed Habyarimana as too willing to compromise with Tutsis, responsible for the liquidation. A report from ballistic experts in 2012 also suggested that the missiles used in the attack were likely fired from a camp held by Habyarimana's own presidential guard.
