Afghanistan
The End Game In Afghanistan Is Beginning
[Daily Caller] China and Pakistan have plainly stated their plans for Afghanistan and South Asia.

According to a press release from the November 12 conference held at Islamabad’s Pakistan-China Institute, "Pakistan-Afghanistan-China Trilateral Dialogue supports the CPEC [China-Pakistan Economic Corridor] as key to peace and regional cooperation."

Pakistani news outlets emphasized the point, one stating, "Pakistan and China on Monday urged Afghanistan to join the Belt & Road Initiative as well as the CPEC."

Is it a coincidence that such plain speaking occurs in parallel with an uptick in the frequency and intensity of Taliban attacks inside Afghanistan?

Within a span of a few days, Jaghori ‐ long considered a safe district ‐ was being overrun by 1,000 Taliban, while other Taliban killed at least twelve Afghan soldiers and four tribal elders during an attack on a military base in Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province. And bombs continue to explode in Kabul.

Why Competition in the Politics Industry is Failing America (pdf)
At a time of high dissatisfaction and distrust with the U.S. political system, Michael E. Porter and co-author Katherine M. Gehl use the lens of industry competition to determine why politics in America fails to deliver results for the average American. Applying the Five Forces framework to the politics industry, the authors analyze the classic duopoly with two dominant competitors. The research seeks to inspire action that shifts the nature of competition through powerful and achievable reforms‐and reinvigorates the U.S. democracy. much more at link

Rocket barrages from Gaza prompt more Israeli airstrikes
Obligatory homeless child foto noted.
JERUSALEM (AP) ‐ Gaza militants fired dozens of rockets at southern Israel on Tuesday, killing a man in a strike on a residential building and vowing to further escalate their attacks if Israel keeps bombing the Palestinian territory.

As fighting raged throughout the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was meeting with his Security Cabinet to plot a way forward. The meeting was still going on after more than four hours of talks.

The heavy exchange of fire, which was triggered by a botched Israeli undercover raid into Hamas-ruled Gaza late Sunday, marked the most serious escalation since an Israel-Hamas war in 2014.

International mediators appealed for restraint, hoping to avert another war.

The Israeli military said some 400 rockets and mortars have been launched from Gaza since Monday afternoon, with about 100 of them intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.

Israel said it has struck more than 100 targets it says are linked to militants in Gaza, including a strike that destroyed Hamas’ TV station. Three other buildings believed to be connected to Hamas were destroyed, it said.

Florida recount chugs along as more irregularities surface
[AP] FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) ‐ Florida’s election recount is chugging along as more irregularities are uncovered and a judge asked the warring sides to "ramp down the rhetoric," saying it erodes public confidence in the election for Senate and governor.

One county revealed Monday that it had allowed some hurricane-displaced voters to cast their ballots by email ‐ a violation of state law. Another had to restart its recount after getting about a quarter finished because someone forgot to push a button.

Palm Beach said it won’t finish its recount by the Thursday deadline. And in oft-criticized Broward County, additional sheriff’s deputies were sent to guard ballots and voting machines, even though a judge said no Republican who has publicly alleged fraud in the county’s process ‐ a list that includes President Donald Trump and Gov. Rick Scott ‐ has presented any evidence to law enforcement.

"An honest vote count is no longer possible" in Florida, Trump declared Monday, without elaborating. He demanded that the election night results ‐ which showed the Republicans leading based upon incomplete ballot counts ‐ be used to determine the winner.

Trump went on to allege that "new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged" and that "ballots (are) massively infected." It was unclear what he was referring to.

India-Pakistan
Sophisticated Campaign Targets Pakistan's Air Force
[DarkReading] Espionage campaign uses a variety of new evasion techniques.

A new campaign of exploits and malware has hit Pakistan's Air Force, and it shows signs of being the work of a sophisticated state-sponsored actor in the Middle East. It also has implications for governments and organizations far from Pakistan's borders, according to Cylance researchers.
Iran, Israel or India? (all the "I" countries hate Pakland)
The espionage campaign has been named "Operation Shaheen" in reference to the Shaheen Falcon that is the symbol of Pakistan's Air Force. According to Kevin Livelli, director of threat intelligence at Cylance and one of three authors of three bundled reports detailing the operation, Shaheen is frequently invoked in the phishing email messages used as launch vectors for the attacks.

After the email messages, though, the campaign quickly becomes highly sophisticated. The threat actor, dubbed the "White Company" by the Cylance researchers, uses an array of evasion and obfuscation techniques to hide the presence and operation of malware.

"The White Company is the first threat actor of any kind that we've encountered that targets and effectively evades no fewer than eight different antivirus products," Livelli says. Those eight products ‐ from Sophos, ESET, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Avira, Avast, AVG, and Quick Heal ‐ were then turned against their owners when the malware "surrendered" to the antivirus software on a specific date. The surrender, he says, seems intended to distract, delay, and divert the target's resources after the espionage package had achieved persistence on the victim's systems.

According to Livelli, the White Company's campaign is notable not just for the sophistication of its evasion techniques, but for the many layers of obfuscation employed. As Tom Pace, senior director of consulting services at Cylance and another report author, explains, "One of the techniques is packing the malware, which is a common technique. They're packing it in five different layers, which is pretty significant." That's because with each level of packing, there's a risk of corrupting the exfiltrated data, making it unusable, he says.

"For the White Group to risk packing five times is indicative of a very good familiarity with leveraging this kind of tool, and it's something we don't really see very often," Pace says. Most threat actors might pack their malware once or even twice, but five-level packing is "... both impressive technically, and something we don't see," he adds.

Operation Shaheen is not the only White Group campaign under way, either, though Cylance hasn't yet completed the research to say who the other targets are. Even for those not currently in the group's crosshairs, though, there are reasons to be concerned by this activity.

"If you apply the traditional techniques of investigating these kinds of incidents, you would have missed most of the key takeaways here and not really understood what was going on in the campaign," Livelli says. "If [traditional techniques are] applied in another context, and you're following the tried-and-true methods, you're not going to learn the right answers."

As for what to do with that concern, both Livelli and Pace suggest a redoubling of basic efforts. "Even people that are incredibly sophisticated, with no technical limitations to their skills, are still just sending emails," Pace says.

And users can be trained to avoid those emails, he adds. "If you look at some of the titles of documents there, they are like a perfect example of things that you see in most companies' security awareness program training," he explains.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting
[True West] The Wild West is still smoking' in this hard riding cowboy horseback competition.

The thunderous sound of pounding hooves and the staccato bursts of gunfire breaks the silence of the still air as the lone horseman smoothly guides his mount through the maze of carefully positioned opponents.

With his revolver now empty, this centaur of the open range spurs his mount into a full gallop, at the same time slipping his single action .45 back into its leather.

Without a moment’s hesitation, the lightning-fast hands of this mounted shootist draws a second six-gun.

Rounding the bend in an instant, he instinctively levels the hogleg on his first adversary, blasting it as his mighty horse digs his hooves into the soft earth, kicking up dirt clods as he plunges and bolts into a dead run.

Four more rounds, shot as quickly as the six-shooter‐tuned silky smooth‐can be worked, and, in a matter of just seconds, he races to safety, sliding to a dust-swirling, dead stop.

In a few moments, it is over. As the smoke clears and the dust settles, the cowboy looks around to see his score.

This isn’t a page out of the Old West. It’s just another fun ride at any one of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association’s (CMSA) matches held all over the country.

'British tip-off' led to arrest of retired Austrian colonel suspected of spying for Russia
[The Telegraph] British intelligence provided the tip-off that led to the arrest of a retired Austrian army officer on suspicion of spying for Russia, an Austrian newspaper has claimed.

The tip-off was politically motivated and came amid British displeasure at the Austrian government’s refusal to distance itself from Russia in the wake of the Skripal poisoning, Kleine Zeitung newspaper alleged.

British and Austrian authorities declined to confirm or comment on the claims. Sebastian Kurz, the Austrian chancellor, said last week the case had been brought to authorities’ attention by a tip-off from a "friendly intelligence service".

The suspect, an unnamed 70-year-old retired colonel in the Austrian army, is being held on charges of spying for Russia over a 20-year period. He is alleged to have passed details of Austrian weapons systems and other secrets to Russia in exchange for payments of €300,000 (£260,000).

The case has severely shaken normally warm relations between Austria and Russia. Mr Kurz, who previously spoke of wanting his country to be a "bridge" between Russia and the West, has demanded an explanation from Moscow.

Initial reports last week suggested the tip-off came from Germany. But Kleine Zeitung quoted an unnamed "senior officer" in the Austrian army as saying it had come from Britain.

The officer believes British intelligence acted deliberately in order to distance Austria from Russia, the newspaper claimed.

Austria was one of few Western countries not to expel any Russian diplomats in the wake of the Skripal poisoning affair in Salisbury, and senior figures in the Austrian government have close links to Russia.

Pompeo to Tap New Envoy for Troubled Central African Region
[FP] Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to announce the appointment of a new special envoy to oversee the Great Lakes region of Africa, as part of his drive to fill the U.S. State Department’s depleted ranks.

J. Peter Pham, an Africa scholar at a Washington-based think tank, is slated to be tapped for the job, two officials familiar with internal deliberations told Foreign Policy, which State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert later confirmed in a statement. He will oversee U.S. policy on a region beset by insecurity and political unrest. The area includes the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where President Joseph Kabila is clinging to power well beyond the country’s constitutional term limits and which is struggling with an internal rebellion, humanitarian crises, and a growing Ebola outbreak.

Pham was initially slated to be President Donald Trump’s senior-most diplomat on Africa, but a lone Republican senator threatened to block his appointment to the post of assistant secretary of state for African affairs if nominated, as FP first reported.

Republican Sen. James Inhofe held up his nomination over a disagreement between the two on issues related to the disputed Western Sahara region that Morocco claims as its own territory. Following the impasse, Trump instead tapped Tibor Nagy, a former career diplomat, to fill the assistant secretary post.

Assistant secretary of state positions require presidential nomination and Senate confirmation, whereas special envoy positions do not.

Caribbean-Latin America
Bolton Is Building a Confrontational Latin America Strategy
[FP] For the first time since entering office, U.S. President Donald Trump has managed to surround himself with a full complement of like-minded officials to develop and implement U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere. In recent weeks, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton have welcomed Kimberly Breier as assistant secretary of state for the Western Hemisphere and Mauricio Claver-Carone as senior director for the region at the National Security Council.

The recent appointments served as the backdrop for Bolton’s speech earlier this month at Miami Dade College, in which he began laying out the Trump administration’s priorities in Latin America for at least the next two years.

In large part, that will involve more aggressively confronting the region’s troublemakers‐Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua‐because, as he put it in an interview with the Miami Herald, the United States has "wider interests in the hemisphere that are threatened by all three of these three countries." Indeed, "This Troika of Tyranny," he said in his speech, "is the cause of immense human suffering, the impetus of enormous regional instability, and the genesis of a sordid cradle of communism in the Western Hemisphere." That’s why the United States, he continued "is taking direct action against all three regimes."

Bolton is not referring to military action (which he dismissed in his interview), but to more aggressive implementation of the policy tools at Washington’s disposal‐including economic and political sanctions, legal indictments, and support for civil society and democracy groups, among other measures‐to combat these outlier regimes.

The administration is right to call out the region’s rogues for their destabilizing behavior. The problems created by their utter disregard for democratic norms, rule of law, and the rights and welfare of their citizens, including organized crime and refugee flows, do not stay within those countries’ own borders. Rather, they spread elsewhere, including to the United States, whose security depends on its partners working in unison to keep the neighborhood peace. Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba are weak links.

To address the situation in Venezuela, Bolton announced new sanctions that target the country’s gold sector and bar U.S. citizens and entities from involvement in it. He said, "The Maduro regime has used this sector as a bastion to finance illicit activities, to fill its coffers, and to support criminal groups." With oil revenues in free fall, President Nicolás Maduro has desperately turned to mining Venezuela’s gold deposits and shipping the product to Turkey for refining to avoid pre-existing U.S. sanctions. (According to a senior U.S. Treasury Department official, Maduro has illegally exported more than 21 metric tons of gold to Turkey to date.)

Although Bolton did not announce new sanctions for Nicaragua in his Florida speech, he did say that unless President Daniel Ortega’s government holds "free, fair, and early elections," it "will feel the full weight of America’s robust sanctions regime." At present, the U.S. has sanctioned three Nicaraguan officials on human rights and corruption charges and revoked an unknown number of visas. After months of violently suppressing street protests‐resulting in the deaths of more than 300 people since April‐the Ortega regime has stabilized and retrenched. A new slate of punitive sanctions targeting Ortega’s family, his inner circle, and the military, combined with efforts to embolden the private sector to pressure Ortega for early elections, could once again enhance chances for a resolution to that crisis.

Unsisterly White Women Keep Voting for the GOP and Against Their Own Interests?
[Vogue Magazine] It’s become something of a bleak election night ritual: assessing the exit polls and seeing that white women voters overwhelmingly threw their support behind conservative Republican male candidates. Again. They did it for President Trump, who won an estimated 53 percent of the white female vote in 2016. And they did it with Roy Moore, accused of sexually predatory behavior, in Alabama’s special Senate election last year. And while there were many thrilling, historic wins for progressive women and women of color in particular in the 2018 midterms, as well as data showing that some white women are peeling away from Trump, white women overall rendered more disappointment.

The latest gut punches, courtesy of CNN polling: In the Georgia governor’s race, an estimated 75 percent of white women‐more even than white men!‐voted for Republican Brian Kemp, who is passionately pro-life, over Stacey Abrams, a staunch protector of women’s reproductive rights, while 97 percent of black women supported her. In Texas, 60 percent of white women cast their ballots for Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, a supporter of alleged assaulters President Trump and Brett Kavanaugh, over Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who is dedicated to improving women’s health care. (Ninety-four percent of black women backed O’Rourke.) The numbers were similar in the Florida governor’s race, where 51 percent of white women voted for Republican Ron DeSantis, who has voted against equal pay and the Violence Against Women Act, instead of Democrat Andrew Gillum, who wanted to protect no-cost birth control in the state. Just in case the pattern was unclear: Way more black women‐82 percent‐chose Gillum.

As sure as black women have proven themselves to be the often-underappreciated backbone of the Democratic party, white women voters are establishing themselves as maddeningly, confusingly . . . unsisterly.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Florida Woman Accused Sheriff's Deputy of Rape, Now She Faces a Felony Charge for it
[Law and Crime] A Florida woman is facing up to five years behind bars after she allegedly made a false claim that a sheriff’s deputy raped her. Marley Barberian, 23, was initially arrested on suspicion of shoplifting on January 9, and she alleged that one of the deputies involved in the case sexually assaulted her. An internal investigation found otherwise, and now she’s in bigger trouble.

According to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Barberian claimed that after she was apprehended, one of the deputies groped her during a pat down. She also alleged that on the way to the jail, the deputy drove her to the station in Greenacres where he did some paperwork, then stopped on the way to the jail, made her get out of the car, and raped her on the side of the road. She reportedly said he put his gun in her mouth in the process.

The Sheriff’s Office opened an internal investigation, and found that not every part of Barberian’s story added up. One deputy said the man Barberian accused did not touch her inappropriately. Evidence also indicated that it was a woman who performed the pat down. Additionally, while the accused deputy did drive Barberian to Greenacres, it was a female deputy who drove her from there to the Palm Beach Jail, according to a sheriff’s office report. Video from the car reportedly showed a woman driving, as well as no stops taking place between the Greenacres station and the jail.

Kiss of Death - California Style: Democrats Gain Veto-Proof Majority in California Legislature
[AP] SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Democrats have won two Republican-held California state Senate seats in the Central Valley, giving the party veto-proof supermajorities in both chambers of the Legislature.

Vote totals updated since Election Day made winners Monday of Melissa Hurtado and Assemblywoman Anna Caballero.

Hurtado won the open 12th District seat while Caballero defeated Republican Sen. Andy Vidak in the neighboring 14th District. Both are in the Fresno area. Vidak, of Hanford, has held the seat since a special election in 2013.

The victories give Democrats a two-thirds advantage in the 40-member Senate. The party also has that advantage in the 80-seat Assembly. The party also holds every statewide office, led by Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom.

Two-thirds majorities allow Democrats to raise taxes, suspend legislative rules and override vetoes without Republican votes.

All the state Assembly seats and half the Senate seats were up for grabs in the election. Democrats tried to capitalize on California voters' strong opposition to Republican President Donald Trump and opposed GOP-led efforts to repeal last year's gas and vehicle tax hikes that annually raise $5 billion to support transportation improvements. The ballot measure failed last week.

#1  California has been on life support for some time. It started slipping into a "failed state" when the Progs began their take-over. Unfortunately, it's failure does not occur in isolation; its failure is subsidized by all U.S. taxpayers. Moreover, there is "liberal flight," from California tainting other states.

As I recall, during the "Cold War" the USSR had a one-party system. That didn't work out so well--it never does. The thing that scares me more than a two-party system is a one-party system. The RINOs joined with the Dems made for a Uni-Party--scary. That didn't work out so well for the people either--$20+ trillion debts.

President Trump planning to remove Kirstjen Nielsen
[Washington Examiner] Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen may be the next cabinet member to be ousted from the Trump administration, according to a new report.

The Washington Post reports that President Trump has shared with advisers that he will boot Nielsen as early as this week, despite opposition from White House chief of staff John Kelly. Kelly is advocating for Nielsen to remain at her post or to delay her departure.

Trump, who has expressed dissatisfaction with Nielsen's performance for months, has told aides he is ready for Nielsen to depart the administration as soon as possible, five current and former White House officials told the Post. The officials also said Trump canceled a trip with Nielsen to South Texas this week.

Nielsen, who first assumed her position Dec. 6, has been dissatisfied with her job the past several months, but has been hesitant to leave her post, colleagues said.

But a press secretary for the Department of Homeland Security said that Nielsen is dedicated to carrying out Trump's priorities and will "continue to do so."

"The Secretary is honored to lead the men and women of DHS and is committed to implementing the President’s security-focused agenda to protect Americans from all threats and will continue to do so," Tyler Houlton told the Washington Examiner.

Caribbean-Latin America
Central American Caravan Poses Serious Public Health Threat; TB, Dengue, Chikungunya
[Judicial Watch] The caravan of Central Americans marching towards the United States poses a serious public health threat and could bring dangerous diseases into the country, a prominent physician in a key border state warns. "It’s insane to bring in migrants from any country without proper health screening," said Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. At her Tucson, Arizona practice, Dr. Orient, a graduate of the prestigious Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, specializes in internal medicine. In an interview with Judicial Watch she said that extremely drug resistant strands of tuberculosis are among the infectious diseases the Central American migrants are likely to bring in. Others include mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and chikungunya that are widespread in the region.

Just this week a mainstream newspaper reported on the health crisis created by the influx of Venezuelans fleeing to neighboring countries. The migrants are spreading malaria, yellow fever, diphtheria, dengue, tuberculosis and AIDS throughout South America. Many of the diseases had been considered eradicated in the neighboring Latin American countries, according to government officials cited in the article, which states that "contagion from Venezuela’s economic meltdown is starting to spread to neighboring countries‐not financially, but literally, in the form of potentially deadly diseases carried among millions of refugees." As an example, the story reveals that "measles reappeared with a vengeance" in a Brazilian city near the Venezuelan border that had declared the highly contagious airborne disease "vanquished" nearly two decades ago. "Measles is already spreading beyond the Brazilian Amazon to other Brazilian states, as well as Colombia, Peru and as far south as Argentina, according to recent Pan American Health Organization reports," the article states. "Other diseases racing through communities in Venezuela are now crossing borders and raising concerns among health authorities as far away as the U.S."

The U.S. could face a similar situation if the caravan of Central Americans‐at last count around 7,000‐is allowed into the country. "Of course it could happen here," Dr. Orient said, referring to the health crisis ignited by Venezuelans in South America. She points out that even legal immigrants are not screened as they should be. "The government is putting kids with lice and scabies and other health issues in American schools without people knowing the health risks," Dr. Orient said. When immigrants arrived at Ellis Island they were properly tested for diseases and quarantined, Dr. Orient points out. Now they’re allowed to stay in the U.S. without proper health screenings and many get relocated throughout the country, further risking the spread of diseases.

Years ago, when Barack Obama let tens of thousands of illegal immigrant minors into the country, health experts warned about the serious health risks. Most of the Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) came from Central America, like the current caravan, and they crossed into the U.S. through Mexico, in the same way that the caravan expects to. Swine flu, dengue fever and Ebola were among the diseases that the hordes of UACs brought with them, according to lawmakers and medical experts interviewed by Judicial Watch during the influx. At the time, a U.S. Congressman, who is also a medical doctor, told Judicial Watch about the danger to the American public as well as the Border Patrol agents forced to care for the UACs. The former lawmaker, Phil Gingrey, referred to it as a "severe and dangerous" crisis because the Central American youths were importing infectious diseases considered to be largely eradicated in this country. Many migrants lack basic vaccinations such as those to prevent chicken pox or measles, leaving America’s young children and the elderly particularly susceptible, Gingrey pointed out then. To handle the escalating health crisis the CDC activated an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that largely operated in secrecy.

UFOs spotted off Irish coast under investigation
[BBC] The Irish Aviation Authority is investigating reports of bright lights and UFOs off the south-west coast of Ireland.

It began at 06:47 local time on Friday 9 November when a British Airways pilot contacted Shannon air traffic control.

She wanted to know if there were military exercises in the area because there was something "moving so fast".

The air traffic controller said there were no such exercises.

The pilot, flying from the Canadian city of Montreal to Heathrow, said there was a "very bright light" and the object had come up along the left side of the aircraft before it "rapidly veered to the north".

She was wondering what it could be but said it did not seem to be heading for a collision.

Another pilot from a Virgin plane joined in and suggested it might be a meteor or another object re-entering the earth's atmosphere.

North Korea possibly hiding missile operating bases despite denuclearization pledge, think tank says
[FOX] North Korea is conning the United States, building up secret, smaller missile bases even after publicly touting the dismantling of its main launch site, according to a new review of satellite images by a top think tank.

Citing new satellite pictures, the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Beyond Parallel program identified what appears to be missile operating bases that have never been acknowledged by North Korean officials. CSIS' conclusions were not immediately independently confirmed.

The report identified about 15 to 20 bases being operated by the Korean People’s Army's Strategic Force, based on information from officials in the government, defense and intelligence, as well as North Korean defectors.

"The ballistic missile operating bases are small, dispersed throughout the nation, and, with few exceptions, located in narrow mountain valleys," the CSIS report stated. "The deployment pattern has evolved over time, garnering a variety of descriptions, but today it is most commonly described as consisting of the three ’belts’: the Tactical (or Forward), the Operational, and the Strategic (or Strategic Rear) based upon their physical distance from the DMZ [Demilitarized Zone]."

Europe
Letter Shows Einstein's Prescient Concerns About ‘Dark Times' in Germany
[Smithsonian] In 1922, after fleeing Berlin out of fear for his safety, Einstein wrote to his sister about his new ’reclusive’ life.

On June 24, 1922, the German-Jewish statesman Walther Rathenau was gunned down on the streets of Berlin by a group of far-right nationalists. In the wake of the assassination, German police cautioned Albert Einstein, Rathenau’s friend and himself a prominent German Jew, to leave the city for his own safety.

As the Associated Press reports, a prescient letter penned by Einstein after his departure from Berlin is headed to auction in Jerusalem this week. In the fascinating document, Einstein writes to his younger sister, Maja, expressing his concerns for a nation inching towards fascism, years before Hitler cemented his control over Germany.

The letter, which was previously unknown, was brought forward by an anonymous collector, according to the AP. It is being sold by the Kedem auction house, and is expected to fetch upwards of $15,000.

By the time Einstein wrote the letter on August 12, 1922, he was an internationally famous scientist; he received his Nobel Prize for physics that same year. But his escape from Berlin forced him into a more secluded lifestyle. Writing from an undisclosed location‐possibly Kiel, where Einstein had moved after the assassination‐Einstein tells Maja that "[n]obody knows" where he is.

"I'm believed to be missing," he explains.

Vatican Halts US Bishops' Attempt To Adopt New Abuse Protocols And Establish Investigative Lay Commission
[Daily Caller] The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) planned to adopt new protocols to hold bishops accountable concerning sex abuse, but the Vatican halted their efforts Monday.

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, president of the USCCB, announced Monday that the Vatican had instructed U.S. bishops to postpone their vote on adopting a new code of conduct for bishops, which would hold them accountable for committing or failing to report abuse, until a February meeting of bishops’ conference presidents from around the world in Rome. The Vatican also instructed them to delay their vote on establishing a lay commission to oversee investigations of reported clergy sexual abuse. (RELATED: Pope Francis Claims Catholic Clergy Are Being Persecuted ... Amid Abuse Crisis)

"At the insistence of the Holy See, we will not be voting on the two action items," DiNardo told the bishops, according to The Washington Post.

"Although I am disappointed that we will not be taking these actions tomorrow, I remain hopeful this additional consultation will ultimately improve our response to the crisis we face," he added, according to America Magazine

'Finishing off Africa' - Panic over rumours of disease-ridden thermoses
[France24] Social media across the African continent is alight with rumours about infected thermos bottles. Some say that thermoses are being laced with pills that carry diseases. Others say the thermoses themselves contain asbestos, putting consumers at risk. These rumours have led dozens of people to post videos to social media showing themselves breaking their thermoses. Our team decided to investigate.

Several people from the Ivory Coast contacted our team on WhatsApp last week to let us know about this topic of frenzied discussion online. They showed us photos and videos showing broken thermoses next to small round objects which looked like pellets or pills.

"We discovered pills within several thermoses in Odienné, Ivory Coast," one of them told our team. "Rumour has it that these pills have caused people to fall ill with mysterious illnesses."

Some posts in French claim that these allegedly toxic substances can infect people with AIDs or cause cancers or heart attacks, and that they were planted by "Westerners" or "China" as a means to "finish off Africa".

"Pills causing AIDs and diabetes in thermoses sold in sub-Saharan Africa by China, Europe. China is the Trojan Horse of genocidal Whites," reads the caption on one of the videos published on Facebook.

[Red State] Great news, everyone: If you’ve at any point been concerned about the business of Planned Parenthood, as it turns out, it’s all cool.

According to the company’s new president, Dr. Leana Wen, the unpolitical practice of the organization is saving lives.

That’s right.

During an interview with CBS This Morning Monday, Wen made things clear.

The show opened by pointing out that PP workers "serve more than 8,000 people" a day.

"Serve."

Planned Parenthood is one of the most maligned and controversial organizations out there. For the program to describe it as "serving" people reveals a heavy bias in favor of it. Imagine if, instead, the show had begun with a counter-characterization from across the ideological aisle: "Planned Parenthood has aborted almost 7 million babies since 1978. Leana, welcome to the show." Wording is everything.

Anyway, Wen schooled us all:

Navy Veteran Rep.-Elect Dan Crenshaw: 'Stop Looking for Reasons to Be Offended'
[reason - Free Minds and Free Markets] Navy SEAL veteran and congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw (R‐Texas), whose eyepatch was the subject of a much-maligned joke earlier this month, says people need to stop getting offended so easily.

First, some background. On November 3, Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson made a joke about the eyepatch, which Crenshaw started wearing after losing an eye in Afghanistan. "You may be surprised to hear he's a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hit man in a porno movie," Davidson said. "I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war or whatever."

Davidson was roundly criticized for the bad-taste joke. And then, this past Saturday, the comic apologized on the air to Crenshaw, who by then had won his election. Crenshaw showed up to accept the apology in person. It made for an entertaining segment, as Crenshaw got a bit of revenge with some jabs of his own.

Economy
The National Debt Is Coming Due, Just Like We Told You
[reason - Free Minds and Free Markets] What happens when you borrow the equivalent of your annual income and those low, low teaser rates start to increase? Congratulations, America, you're about to find out.

The Wall Street Journal reports some non-shocking, non-surprising news:
In 2017, interest costs on federal debt of $263 billion accounted for 6.6% of all government spending and 1.4% of gross domestic product, well below averages of the previous 50 years. The Congressional Budget Office estimates interest spending will rise to $915 billion by 2028, or 13% of all outlays and 3.1% of gross domestic product....

It will spend more on interest than it spends on Medicaid in 2020; more in 2023 than it spends on national defense; and more in 2025 than it spends on all nondefense discretionary programs combined, from funding for national parks to scientific research, to health care and education, to the court system and infrastructure, according to the CBO.
A quick recap of our dismal national fiances: The U.S. economy generates about $21 trillion in annual activity. Debt owed to the public comes to about $15.5 trillion, but when you add intra-governmental debt (which you should, because it represents actual commitments to pay), the figure is...about $21 trillion.

This is not good, both for obvious and and for less obvious reasons. Among the obvious problems: When you have to pay more in interest, it crowds out your ability to spend on other things. If you're a government, it also might mean that you raise taxes or inflate your money. (You could also cut spending, but politicians tend to resist that for as long as possible.)

The federal government spends about $4.4 trillion a year, split among several categories, including what is considered "mandatory" and "discretionary." The mandatory stuff includes entitlements, such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Congress doesn't need to vote on this spending for it to continue. Discretionary spending includes spending on the military, homeland security, schools, and other stuff that does need to get voted on. The percentage of spending that is mandatory has grown from around 30 percent in 1962 to about 62 percent of federal outlays today. Discretionary spending comes to about 30 percent, and interest on the debt rounds out the rest. Government spending will increase whether a divided government does anything or not. And, absent significant changes in current law, what the government spends on will be more and more limited. From a libertarian perspective, less government spending is a good thing, but we're not really going to get that, even with a gridlocked Congress.

These wild monkeys thrive in Florida‐and carry a deadly virus
[National Geographic] In the heart of central Florida lies Silver Spring State Park‐a large patchwork of forests and wetlands with a spring-fed river flowing through it. One of Florida’s first tourist attractions, the park was once known for its scenic vistas and native wildlife. But for the last 80 years, the park’s biggest draw has been its monkeys.

That’s right‐Silver Spring State Park is home to at least 300 rhesus macaques, a monkey native to south and southeast Asia. The animals are breeding rapidly, and a new study estimates that the monkey population will double by 2022 unless state agencies take steps to control it.

The study, published October 26 in the journal Wildlife Management, claims that such an increase could put the health of the park and its visitors in serious jeopardy‐because, among other problems, the monkeys carry a rare and deadly form of herpes virus called herpes B. It’s extremely rare for herpes B to spread from a monkey to a human, but when it does, it can cause inflammation of the brain and spinal cord leading to brain damage or death.

Florida’s primate problem began in 1938 when a tour boat operator known as "Colonel Tooey" released six rhesus macaques onto a small island within what is now the state park. He procured the monkeys from a primate dealer in New York City with the intention to create a Tarzan-themed attraction on the island, but his plans quickly unraveled.

Afghanistan
Interior Ministry Confirms Spike in Casualty Toll This Year
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Sunday confirmed there has been a sharp rise in casualties among security forces in the past few weeks after Taliban
...Arabic for students...
bully boyz expanded their attacks on multiple fronts.

This comes after Taliban bully boyz sought to expand their attacks in some strategic locations of Baghlan, Kunduz, Faryab, Uruzgan, Ghor and Farah provinces.

"This year, the Afghan cops had vast movements across the country, whenever the role of security forces is increased in war, it is natural the number of casualties would also increase," said MoI front man Najib Danish.

Hundreds of civilians have reportedly fled their homes in these areas besieged by war.

Jaghor, Khogyani and Malistan districts in Ghazni; Dasht-e-Archi in Kunduz; Farah city in Farah; Barka and Dahan-e-Ghori districts in Baghlan; and Trinkot in Uruzgan are among the areas where the Taliban launched fresh offensives to challenge government forces in recent weeks.

According to reports, fighting is ongoing between the Taliban and Afghan forces in Ghazni’s Malistan and Jaghori districts.

"Hundreds of families have fled their homes, they do not have fuel, food and other basic needs," said one resident in Ghazni Abdul Hamid Natiqi.

"There is no food or water, if government does not take action, there is the possibility that the district will collapse," said a Baghlan resident, Nemat.

Reports indicate that both sides have suffered a massive casualty toll.

This comes after The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Thursday said reinforcement troops have been sent to Jaghori district in Ghazni province and Baghlan’s Dahana-e-Ghori District to repel Taliban attacks in the two regions.

Last week MoD officials said more than 16 Taliban fighters had been killed in Dahana-e-Ghori in Baghlan.

The Jaghori district festivities come just three months after Taliban launched group attacks on Ghazni and seized parts of the city.

On Wednesday the Taliban launched group attacks from a few directions on Jaghori district, one of Afghanistan’s most secure districts in Ghazni province.

Violence has also gripped Uruzgan province over the past week.

Uruzgan representatives in the senate and parliament last week said hundreds of families have been displaced due to the festivities in the province.

Additional forces deployed for a large operation in Ghazni: Army Chief
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Army Chief of Staff Gen. Sharif Yaftali says additional forces have been deployed in Ghazni province for a large operation to suppress the holy warriors.

Speaking during a presser in Kabul, Gen. Yaftali said the Commando Forces of the Afghan army have also been deployed to Ghazni

He said a large operation would be launched soon to suppress the gunnies who have launched attacks on some districts in this province.

Gen. Yaftali assured that the deployment of additional forces would change the situation of the conflict in Ghazni province.

In the meantime, Gen. Yaftali said at least 200 gunnies have bit the dust during the festivities in Khas Uruzgan province over the past few days.

He also admitted that some Afghan Commandos have also lost their the recent festivities but did not elaborate further regarding the exact number.

This comes as heavy festivities are underway in Jaghoori and Malistan districts of Ghazni and Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan province since the last few days.

Malistan on Verge of Collapse, Say Ghazni Officials

[ToloNews] Members of the Ghazni provincial council warned on Monday that Ghazni’s Malistan district is on the verge of collapse and that heavy fighting is ongoing in Jaghori, another district in the province.

Members of the council said if more troops are not deployed to these areas, a humanitarian crisis will unfold. The provincial council also said security forces have suffered a high casualty toll in the ongoing conflict.

Malistan and Jaghori districts were until recently among the most secure districts in the country, but in the past few days, clashes have been ongoing between security forces and the Taliban.

Reports indicate that in the past two days, about 20 security forces, including special forces, have been killed in Jaghori district.

“Hundreds of families have been displaced from the areas that they (Taliban) have taken control of. This group shootsdead anyone they see and do not care whether they are military or civilian,” Hamidullah Nawrozi, a member of Ghazni provincial council said.

Malistan and Jaghori came under attack after hundreds of families fled to Malistan from Khas Uruzgan district just last week due to clashes.

Malistan is bordered by Khas Uruzgan district in Uruzgan province which has also recently seen a surge in clashes between security forces and Taliban. Most of the families that fled the area, headed for Malistan.

“We always ask from the infidels not to let us get killed, lets first push out Americans from the country,” MP Obaidullah Barekzai said.

In the meantime, sources said that Taliban on Sunday night attacked the outskirts of Farah city, in Farah, and Trinkotin Uruzgan province.

“People are worried, the security situation in Farah is worrying,” said Khair Mohammad Norzai, a member of Farah provincial council.

“Currently Taliban are about five to 10 kilometers from Trinkot city. Last night they took control of a security outpost,” Amanullah Azimi, a former senator from Uruzgan, said.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali meanwhile said on Monday that security forces have suffered fatalities in Ghazni and Farah but said extra forces have been deployed to the areas to address the problem.

“We do not say that we do not have casualties. Casualty is casualty, no matter whether it is less or more. When you go to war, you will suffer fatalities,” said Yaftali.

In the meantime, reports indicate that Taliban have launched attacks on Dasht-e-Archi district in Kunduz province.

“A number of villages in Qarloq area in Dash-e-Archi have collapsed to the Taliban and the group have bad plans for the area,” Abdullah Qaraloq, a senator said.

In reaction to attacks on Malistan, Jaghori and Khas Uruzgan districts, hundreds of people protested in Kabul on Monday after marching to the Presidential Palace from Sunday night. The protesters said government has failed toaddress security challenges in Ghazni and Uruzgan.

The protest ended on Monday afternoon after President Ashraf Ghani assured the protesters that their voices have been heard.

Sinema's Senate win cheered by LGBTQ groups
[The Hill] LGBTQ groups are cheering the Monday night victory by Arizona Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D), who is set to become the country's first openly bisexual senator.

Sinema's win was officially declared on Monday after six days of ballot-counting in a tight senatorial race against GOP Rep. Martha McSally (Ariz.). Sinema will be the state's first female senator and the first Democrat to win a Senate race in Arizona since 1988.

Sinema is also the second openly LGBTQ person to be elected to the upper chamber, joining Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), who is lesbian.

"An LGBTQ woman winning a U.S. Senate seat in a state that voted for Trump is a game-changer, both for the LGBTQ community and the Democratic party," CEO and President of LGBTQ Victory Fund said in a statement on Monday. "Kyrsten’s victory makes clear that an LGBTQ candidate who listens to voters and prioritizes their issues can win elected office anywhere ‐ blue state or red state."

Victory Fund, a political action committee that works to elect LGBTQ candidates to office, dubbed Sinema one of their "game changer" candidates this election cycle, directly contributing $10,000 to her campaign and raising more than $97,000 for her.

Low Energy Jeb Bush calls for Broward County official to be removed from post
[The Hill] Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) called for the removal of Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes.

"There is no question that Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes failed to comply with Florida law on multiple counts, undermining Floridians’ confidence in our electoral process," Bush tweeted.

"Supervisor Snipes should be removed from her office following the recounts."

Snipes's leadership has come under attack as Broward struggles to count the remaining votes in the 2018 midterm elections held last Tuesday.

Three statewide races in Florida, including the gubernatorial and the Senate race, are headed for recounts, sparking a legal fight over the counting process.

Snipes was appointed by Bush when he was governor after he suspended her predecessor Miriam Oliphant in November 2003 for what he called "grave neglect, mismanagement and incompetence."

[Free Beacon] MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Monday claimed Florida's Broward County election supervisor Brenda Snipes is a Republican, despite the fact she is a Democrat.

"We should also point out that Brenda Snipes in Broward County is a Republican appointed by former governor, then-Governor Jeb Bush," Mitchell said in a clip flagged by Mediaite. "So, she was put in by a Republican governor after the mess that we all remember from 2000. And she’s hardly a Democratic official, or someone doing the bidding of the Democratic candidates there."

Snipes self-identifies as a Democrat and has run as a Democrat for her current position.

Short List: 8 Potential ‘America First' Candidates for Attorney General
[Breitbart] As former Attorney General Jeff Sessions departed the Department of Justice (DOJ), a short list of potential replacements has surfaced in Washington, D.C.
Below, Breitbart News has compiled eight "America First" candidates for Attorney General.

Kris Kobach

Currently, Kobach is serving the last couple of months as Kansas’s Secretary of State. Kobach previously served as an adviser to President Trump on immigration, and most notably wrote Arizona’s SB 1070 law that made it a state crime to be in the country as an illegal alien.

Having fought the open borders lobby in the courts, Kobach is the most obvious choice to replace Sessions when it comes to suing the state of California for their sanctuary state law. Kobach is likely to expand on Sessions’ border reforms and tightening of asylum loopholes.

Kobach has also been at the forefront of tackling voter fraud. He has taken on the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) which has attempted to stop his election integrity law that requires voters to prove their citizenship. Kobach has taken on 14 cases of voter fraud in Kansas since 2015. Those cases have either already ended in convictions or are currently pending.

Judicial Watch Sues DOJ for Records of Investigations into the Awan Brothers, Congressional Democrat IT Scandal
[Judicial Watch] (Washington, DC) Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Justice Department for all records of communications relating to the investigation into former Democratic information technology (IT) staffers Abid Awan, Imran Awan, Jamal Awan and Hina R. Alvi (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:18-cv-02563)).

Imran Awan and his family were banned from the House computer network in February 2017 after the House’s top law enforcement officer wrote that Imran is "an ongoing and serious risk to the House of Representatives, possibly threatening the integrity of our information systems," and that a server containing evidence had gone "missing." The inspector general said server logs showed "unauthorized access" and procurement records were falsified.

Imran Awan was Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s top information technology aide. Most lawmakers fired Awan in February, but Wasserman Schultz kept him on until he was arrested in July, trying to board a flight for Pakistan.

Imran Awan was allowed a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud but prosecutors found no evidence that Awan "violated federal law with respect to the House computer systems."

The Judicial Watch lawsuit was filed after the FBI failed to respond adequately to two FOIA requests.

The FBI claimed it could neither confirm nor deny records related to the first request, filed on May 26, 2017, seeking:

His name is Andrés Manuel López Obrador (known popularly as AMLO), he opposes hardline anti-drug policies and believes in amnesty for drug war criminals. A State Department document obtained by Judicial Watch warns that Obrador, who takes over on December 1, will seek to decriminalize marijuana and poppy cultivation early in his term. He will also end Mexican military intervention in the drug war and pardon some drug offenders, according to the document which was issued recently by the agency’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security and is titled "Mexico’s Drug War & AMLO" and subtitled "Crime; Drug Trafficking; Narco-Terrorism."

Narco-violence and cartel-associated crime is already one of most dangerous threats against U.S. private-sector interests in Mexico, according to the State Department, and Obrador’s new policies will only worsen the crisis. "The promised amnesty deal with organized criminal groups and the pledge to investigate and prosecute corrupt politicians, many of whom are in business with the cartels, prompts concern about increased impunity for violent offenders," the new memo states. It identifies "hot spots" for Mexican Criminal and Narco-Violence and reveals that the drug war and cartel infighting has caused severe, nationwide security repercussions. Five Mexican states (Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas) have such high levels of violence that the U.S. government warns against travel. Common crimes include homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery. "In these states, gang activity, including gun battles, is widespread," the State Department writes. "Criminal organizations operate freely and sometimes with impunity. Local law enforcement has limited capability to respond to violence in many parts of these states, as criminal organizations have laid territorial claim to significant portions of the region."

In 2017 the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) handled 116 kidnappings in Mexico, 81 for ransoms, and during the 2018 general elections there were 774 attacks against politicians. More than 150 politicians were killed in the attacks, the State Department reveals, and 371 non-elected officials. On election day alone, 138 assaults were reported in Mexico and seven politicians were murdered, compared to nine during the entire 2012 election season. Clearly, our neighbor to the south is a perpetually unstable, crime-infested cesspool. Intra-cartel violence remains the most prevalent type of crime much like an outlaw society taken over by thugs. "Although Mexico employs strict gun-control laws, criminals are often armed with guns, which has resulted in the increase of homicide incidents in Mexico," according to the State Department memo. "While most of these homicides appeared to be targeted, criminal organization assassinations, turf battles between criminal groups have resulted in violent crime in areas frequented by U.S. citizens. Shooting incidents injuring or killing bystanders have occurred. In some states, members of these groups frequently maintain roadblocks and may use violence towards travelers."

Iraqi court sentences five Islamic State terrorists to death by hanging
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ An Iraqi court has sentenced five murderous Moslems to death by hanging over their membership in the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and involvement in a terrorist attack against security forces in Baghdad.

Dijlah TV channel quoted the media office of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council as saying in a statement that the country’s Central Criminal Court issued the verdicts against the convicts after they confessed to attacking a security checkpoint in El Husseiniya district in Baghdad, leaving 13 people dead and injured.

The murderous Moslems used a bobby-trapped vehicle in the attack, according to the statement.

Courts in Iraq have sentenced many of Islamic State members, including a big number of female members, to death over joining the hard boy group.

The exact number of detained holy warriors is still unknown, however, it’s estimated to be at thousands. It’s also unclear how many members are likely to face death sentences.

Moreover, the Iraqi government did not provide estimates about the number of the foreign detained holy warriors or those who have Arab or Iraqi origins.

Human rights groups have always criticized collective death sentences issued by Iraqi courts, claiming that some detainees are tortured and threatened.

Iraq’s anti-terrorism law empowers courts to convict people who are believed to have helped jihadists even if they are not accused of carrying out attacks.

Customs checkpoints between Iraq and Kurdistan Region to be scrapped: official
Good. It’s about time.
[Rudaw] Customs checkpoints established on major roads between Iraqi and Kurdistan Region cities after the events of October 2017 are to be removed following an agreement between Erbil and Baghdad, officials announced Sunday.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) General Directorate of Customs and the Iraqi Customs Board reached a 27 point agreement in a meeting last week in Erbil, but only revealed the deal on Sunday, Samal Abdulrahman, head of KRG customs department, told Rudaw.

"In our meeting with the Iraqi customs body, we reach an agreement on 27 points concerning the question of customs. We have agreed to remove Baghdad’s three customs checkpoints put between Kirkuk-Erbil, Erbil-Sulaimani, djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
-Duhok," Abdulrehman said.

No details were given on what exactly the 27 points cover, nor did the official offer a timeframe for when the checkpoints would be closed.

The Iraqi Customs Board has not issued a statement on the deal.

Erbil and Baghdad have long disputed the imposition of customs points and their revenues. Baghdad has even demanded Erbil hand over the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
When Kurds controlled Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
Baghdad had a customs point between Baghdad and the disputed city. Business owners often complained of being taxed twice to move freight between cities. When Iraqi forces took over the disputed city in October 2017, they imposed a series of customs borders, isolating the Region economically.

Western officials have criticized the internal checkpoints, calling for a single internal market.

"We disagree with internal customs barriers in Iraq and tell the GoI. Everyone would do better if Iraq was a single market," Martyn Warr, the British consul-general in Erbil, tweeted earlier this week.

Gaza factions agree to cease fire if Israel halts attack - Palestinian official
[NEWS.TRUST.ORG] Paleostinian Death Eater groups in Gazoo said on Tuesday they would halt cross-border attacks immediately if Israel did the same after the most serious exchanges of aerial fire since a seven-week war in 2014.

An Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, responded by putting the onus on the Paleostinians to stop their strikes, saying Israel's actions would be determined by their "steps on the ground".

Since Monday, Israeli air strikes have killed seven Paleostinians, at least five of them button men, armed factions said. Rocket attacks from Gazoo killed a Paleostinian, a resident of the occupied West Bank, living in an apartment in Israel, where he worked.

The salvoes were the fiercest since the Gazoo war in 2014, the third between Israel and Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, in a decade as part of the wider Israel-Paleostinian conflict.

On Tuesday, the joint command of the Paleostinian armed factions in Gazoo said in a statement they would abide by a ceasefire mediated by neighbouring Egypt "as long as the Zionist enemy does the same".

As far as the factions were concerned, an official in one of the Paleostinian groups told Rooters, "the truce has gone into effect", conditional on Israel' actions.

Hamas and other armed factions fired over 400 rockets or mortar bombs across the fenced border after carrying out a surprise guided-missile attack on Monday on a bus that maimed an Israeli soldier, the military said.

Asked if Israel was heading towards a ceasefire, Yuval Steinitz, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's security cabinet, told YNet Internet TV:

"I would say that a more accurate definition is that the Israeli military landed a harsh and unprecedented blow on Hamas and the terrorist groups in Gazoo, and we will see if that will suffice or whether further blows will be required."

Hamas said it was retaliating for a botched Israeli commando raid in Gazoo that killed one of its commanders and six other button men on Sunday. An Israeli colonel was also killed in that incident.

Sirens rang out in southern Israeli towns on Tuesday and people ran for shelter after Paleostinian rockets crashed into several homes overnight. The military said the Iron Dome anti-rocket system intercepted more than 100 projectiles.

Germany, EU funding militants in Idlib: Tagesspiegel
[PRESSTV] The German government and other EU members are funding holy warriors still present in Idlib and involved in a conflict against the Syrian army, Germany's Tagesspiegel newspaper has revealed.

According to the report cited by British daily the Telegraph on Sunday, "no less than 37.5 million euros" has been transferred to krazed killer groups in Idlib by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In total, Berlin has paid nearly 49 million euros to holy warriors fighting to topple the Syrian government and facilitated the transfer of similar funds by other EU members, it added.

Those funds included "11.3 million other sources, or 17 million euros from the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, for which Germany would have played an intermediary role."

According to the report, the German government does not communicate the precise list of recipients of the funds for fear of angering Russia and other sides involved in the Syria war.

Bulgaria becomes latest EU state to shun UN migration pact

pact that aims to regulate the treatment of migrants colonists worldwide.

The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migrationwas approved in July by all 193 member nations except the United States, which backed out last year. It followed the biggest influx of migrants colonists into Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
since World War Two, many fleeing conflicts in the Middle East and beyond.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
the right-wing governments of Hungary and Austria have since said they will not sign the final document at a ceremony in Morocco in December over concerns that it will blur the line between legal and illegal migration. Poland, the Czech Republic and now Bulgaria have signaled they may follow suit.

"The position of the Bulgarian government will be not to join the United Nations’ global pact on migration," the deputy leader of the main ruling center-right GERB party, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, said after a meeting of coalition chiefs.

GERB’s anti-migrant junior coalition partner, the United Patriots, is strongly opposed to the U.N. pact, which it says endangers national interests.

The Bulgarian parliament will debate the pact on Wednesday.

The U.N. pact addresses issues such as how to protect people who migrate, how to integrate them into new countries and how to return them to their home countries.

The Swiss diplomat who helped negotiate the pact, Pietro Mona, defended the accord on Monday, saying it helped smaller countries such as Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
to better defend their interests.

Drinking Speaking in Berlin on Monday, the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, appealed for a united EU front on migration and other issues.

"If one or two or three countries leave the United Nations migration pact, then we as the EU can’t stand up for our own interests," he told a business summit.

Bulgaria, which lies on one of the main migratory routes from the Middle East to western Europe, says it is already taking steps to stop illegal migration and protect the EU’s external borders.

Iranian armed forces ready to protect oil tankers against threats
[PRESSTV] Iran’s armed forces have pledged to protect the country’s oil tankers against possible threats after the United States said the ships should not be allowed to dock anywhere because they were a "floating liability."

"Iran’s armed forces ... are prepared today as in the past to protect our fleet of oil tankers against any threats so that it can continue to use marine waterways," Rear-Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi, a deputy commander of Iran’s Army, said Monday.

The remarks came days after Brian Hook, the US special representative for Iran, warned Iran’s business partners to "rethink your decision" to buy Iranian oil in the wake of Washington’s "toughest" sanctions against Tehran.

The administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
resumed sanctions on Iran’s oil, shipping and banking industries last Monday, months after he pulled out of a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers.

"From the Suez Canal to the Strait of Malacca and all choke-points in between, Iranian tankers are a floating liability," Hook said during a presser on Wednesday. "Self-insured Iranian tankers are a risk to the ports that permit them to dock (and) the canals that allow them to transit."

Hook, who is also a special adviser to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, threatened countries and port operators with possible US penalties for facilitating Iranian ships’ access to international waterways and port facilities.

Ethiopia arrests 36 intelligence officials over alleged corruption, rights abuses
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ethiopia’s attorney general accused members of the security service of carrying out a grenade attack on a rally attended by the prime minister, as he announced details of a string of investigations that struck at the heart of the establishment.

Members of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) were involved in the blast that killed two people in June, soon after newly-elected reformist prime minister Abiy Ahmed left the stage, attorney general Berhanu Tsegaye told reporters on Monday.

Under other investigations, Berhanu added, arrest warrants have been issued for 36 security agents accused of rights abuses and corruption, and for more than 30 officials from a military-run firm, where he said inquiries had uncovered mismanagement.

Reuters could not immediately contact the security service, or the industrial conglomerate named by the attorney general - Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC).

Abiy has pushed through a series of jolting reforms since coming to power in April, including a peace deal with neighboring Eritrea, a pledge to open up state-dominated sectors to private investors and promises to rein in the security services.

Communist peace consultant, two comrades nabbed
[Manila Times] A National Democratic Front (NDF) peace consultant was arrested in a house in Novaliches, Quezon City on Thursday morning. The NDF is an umbrella group that counts the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army, the CPP’s armed wing, as members, among other groups.

Police spokesman Guillermo Eleazar said Vicente Ladlad, Antonio de Jesus and “Anna” were arrested by members of the police and the military in a raid on a house of a friend of Ladlad at around midnight in Barangay San Bartolome.

Eleazar said Ladlad was positively identified by former militants now working with the government.

Ladlad’s wife Fides went to the NCRPO headquarters to see her husband after the arrest. She told reporters that the firearms found in the house where her husband was arrested were planted by the raiders.

“Everything is fake. This is what they are doing for all of us to come out… I want all of those guns fingerprinted because if those really belong to Vic (Ladlad’s nickname), his fingerprints should be there,” Fides said in English and Filipino.

In response, Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde said they will subject the firearms to ballistic and fingerprint tests. Eleazar said it is normal for leftists to claim that firearms are planted.

Quezon City Police District Director and Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel said they will verify if the firearms were licensed, but based on the search warrants none of the suspects has the right to own the guns.

Human rights group Karapatan called for the release of Ladlad and his companions, saying their arrest was a violation of the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees that protects peace consultants from arrest and detention. Before Ladlad, several peace consultants were arrested after Duterte terminated peace talks with the NDF, including Rafael Baylosis, Adelberto Silva and Ferdinand Castillo.

Malacañang also on Thursday said there was nothing illegal in the arrest of Ladlad. In a news conference, Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees was no longer operative because the President had scrapped the peace talks with the communists.

Albayalde, who celebrated his 55th birthday on Thursday, denied that the arrest is a “birthday gift” to him.

Aasia is in Pakistan, won’t leave till end of legal process: minister; possible Canada asylum
[DAWN] Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Pir Noorul Haq Qadri said on Monday that Aasia Bibi, who was recently acquitted by the Supreme Court in a blasphemy case, was still in Pakistain and would not leave the country till the "finalisation of legal process".

"Aasia Bibi is very much in Pakistain as I address this august gathering," the minister said while addressing a Tahafuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat conference here.

He dispelled the rumours of Aasia Bibi leaving the country as "mere propaganda".

As far as any alteration in the Section 295-C (blasphemy law) of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) was concerned, he said it was very much part of the Constitution and the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
government did not intend to change it. He added the government would rather "defend" the blasphemy law "on every forum".

Canada in talks with Pakistan over possibly taking in Asia Bibi

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that his government was holding talks with Pakistain over potentially offering asylum to Asia Bibi, a Christian woman recently freed from prison after her blasphemy conviction was overturned.

"We are in discussions with the Pak government," Trudeau said in an interview with AFP in Gay Paree, where he was attending a peace conference organised by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"There is a delicate domestic context that we respect which is why I don’t want to say any more about that, but I will remind people Canada is a welcoming country," he said.

Bibi has been blocked from leaving Pakistain after the overturning of her conviction prompted a wave of protests among Islamist hard-liners.

She has since been flown to a "safe place" in the country as several governments have offered to grant her family asylum.

Iraq
Pro-ISIS mullah claims he met German Kurd on trial for terror plot
[Rudaw] Mullah Ismail Susayi, who is detained in the Kurdistan Region over alleged ties to ISIS, says a German Kurd standing trial in Stuttgart accused of terror offenses approached him during a visit to the Kurdistan Region in 2016.

Dasbar W, 29, a German man with roots in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, is standing trial accused of planning a terrorist attack on a busy ice rink in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg. He denies the charges.

The suspect was detained in December last year after unsuccessfully trying to obtain a heavy vehicle to allegedly carry out his attack.

Susayi, who has confessed to radicalizing the men who attacked the Erbil governor’s building earlier this year, claimed in a video published by the Kurdistan Region Security Council on August 2, 2018 he had spoken to Dasbar W when he visited the Region’s in 2016.

"A boy, who was born and lived in Germany, came to me. His Kurdish accent was not good. His name was Dasbar Ihsan. He came to our mosque several times," the mullah said.

"He told me, ’ISIS members talk about you and love you. They consider you as an important person but you are not doing anything.’ I did not talk too much with him. He came a second time and suggested to contact someone, Abu Aisha Irani, whose accent was not from our Kurdistan [Region]. He sounded like Iranians and encouraged me.

"Then, he said, ’Pledge allegiance because you are important for the Kurdish members of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
.’ I said that I had already pledged allegiance," Susayi added.

The two men also asked for intelligence on Peshmerga front line positions in disputed areas, he claims.

Stuttgart High Court told Rudaw on Monday that Dasbar W visited the Kurdistan Region’s Erbil province in July 2016, where he allegedly spied for ISIS and was planning to attack the KRG Council of Ministers. After the alleged plot failed, he returned to Germany.

Dasbar W, who is expected to testify in court at the end of November, was under police surveillance for several weeks before the alleged attack. A police informant ‐ whose identity has not been revealed ‐ had been set upon him.

Prosecutors say Dasbar W took part in a now-banned Salafist scheme handing out Korans in German city centers. They also accuse him of helping produce ISIS propaganda videos.

Dasbar W’s lawyers pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
in the first day of his trial on Monday. He has denied all the allegations, insisting he sympathizes with the Kurdish Peshmerga fighting against ISIS.

The trial is expected to last for one year.

Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee dead at 95
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Stan Lee, who dreamed up Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk and a cavalcade of other Marvel Comics superheroes that became mythic figures in pop culture with soaring success at the movie box office, died at the age of 95, his daughter said on Monday.

As a writer and editor, Lee was key to the ascension of Marvel into a comic book titan in the 1960s when, in collaboration with artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he created superheroes who would enthrall generations of young readers.

Lee’s daughter J.C. Lee confirmed the death to Rooters.

Americans were familiar with superheroes before Lee, in part thanks to the 1938 launch of Superman by Detective Comics, the company that would become DC Comics, Marvel’s archrival.

Lee was widely credited with adding a new layer of complexity and humanity to superheroes. His characters were not made of stone - even if they appeared to have been chiseled from granite. They had love and money worries and endured tragic flaws or feelings of insecurity.

"I felt it would be fun to learn a little about their private lives, about their personalities and show that they are human as well as super," Lee told NPR News in 2010.

He had help in designing the superheroes but he took full ownership of promoting them.

His creations included web-slinging teenager Spider-Man, the muscle-bound Hulk, mutant outsiders The X-Men, the close-knit Fantastic Four and the playboy-inventor Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man.

Dozens of Marvel Comics movies, with nearly all the major characters Lee created, were produced in the first decades of the 21st century, grossing over $20 billion at theaters worldwide, according to box office analysts.

Iran to sue US for sanctioning its maritime transport
[PRESSTV] Iran says it plans to sue the United States at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for sanctioning its maritime transport services.

Mohammad Rastad, the managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran, was quoted by media as saying that a complaint to the same effect would be filed to the IMO in London next week against what he described as "cruel US sanctions and restrictions on maritime transport."

Rastad added that Iran’s complaint would be based on international laws that govern the maritime industry, stressing that Tehran would accordingly publish an official document detailing the points in which Washington would be found guilty of violating those laws.

The administration of US President Donald Trump

resumed sanctions on Iran’s oil, shipping and banking industries last Monday, months after he pulled out of a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers.

Accordingly, US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said last week that Iranian vessels would lose access to international insurance markets under the US sanctions and so would be a risk to ports and canals which allowed them access.

"From the Suez Canal to the Strait of Malacca and all choke-points in between, Iranian tankers are a floating liability," Hook had said.

Caribbean-Latin America
Migrant caravan moving to western Mexico city of Guadalajara
[AlAhram] Several thousand Central American migrants colonists marked a month on the road Monday as they hitched rides to the western Mexico city of Guadalajara and toward the US border.

Most appear intent on taking the Pacific coast route northward to the border city of Tijuana, which is still about 1,550 miles (2,500 kilometers) away. The migrants colonists have come about 1,200 miles (1,900 kilometers) since they started out in Honduras around Oct. 13.

But whereas they previously suffered from the heat on their journey through Honduras, Guatemala and southern Mexico, they now trek to highways wrapped in blankets to fend off the morning chill.

Karen Martinez of Copan, Honduras and her three children were bundled up with jackets, scarves and a blanket.

"Sometimes we go along laughing, sometimes crying, but we keep on going,'' she said.

While the caravan previously averaged only about 30 miles (50 kilometers) per day, they are also now covering daily distances of 185 miles (300 kilometers) or more, partly because they are relying on hitchhiking rather than walking.

On Monday morning, migrants colonists gathered on a highway leading out of the central city of Irapuato looking for rides to Guadalajara about 150 miles (242 kilometers) away.

"Now the route is less complicated,'' Martinez said.

Indeed, migrants colonists have hopped aboard so many different kinds of trucks that they are no longer surprised by anything. Some have stacked themselves four levels high on a truck intended for pigs. Others have boarded a truck carrying a shipment of coffins.

Many, especially men, travel on open platform trailers used to transport steel and cars, or get in the freight containers of 18-wheelers and ride with one of the back doors open to provide air flow.

But the practice is not without dangers.

Earlier, a Honduran man in the caravan died when he fell from a platform truck in the Mexican state of Chiapas.

Jose Alejandro Caray, 17, of Yoro, Honduras, fell a week ago and injured his knee.

"I can't bend it,'' Caray said, as he watched other migrants colonists swarm aboard tractor-trailers.

"Now I'm afraid to get on,'' he said. ``I prefer to wait for a pickup truck.''

After several groups got lost after clambering on semitrailers, caravan coordinators began encouraging migrants colonists to ask drivers first or have someone ride in the cab so they could tell the driver where to turn off.

Over the weekend, the central state of Queretaro reported 6,531 migrants colonists moving through the state, although another caravan was further behind and expected to arrive in Mexico City on Monday.

The caravan became a campaign issue in US midterm elections and US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has ordered the deployment of over 5,000 military troops to the border to fend off the migrants colonists. Trump has insinuated without proof that there are criminals or even turbans in the group.

Many say they are fleeing rampant poverty, gang violence and political instability primarily in the Central American countries of Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Mexico has offered refuge, asylum or work visas, and its government said 2,697 temporary visas had been issued to individuals and families to cover them during the 45-day application process for more permanent status.

But most migrants colonists vow to continue to the United States.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Would-be Arab Israeli jihadist’s Syria trip foiled by his mother taking passport
The lad certainly kept himself busy...
[IsraelTimes] Ahmad Sarsour
...any relation to Palestinian-American Linda Sarsour of Pussy March fame?
allegedly aimed to join anti-regime fighters, tried to arrange killing of Dutch activist who organized Prophet Mohammed art contest, and wanted to stab Jews

State prosecutors on Sunday filed an indictment against an Arab Israeli man who had planned to join jihadist anti-regime terror groups in Syria but was prevented from doing so by his mother who took away his passport, the Justice Ministry said in a statement Monday.

In addition to his failed move to Syria, Ahmad Sarsour, 20, from the northern Arab town of Kafr Qassem, also planned to carry out a stabbing attack against Jews in Jerusalem but was talked out of it by an acquaintance, prosecutors said.
Wisely done, O Acquaintances.
Other activities included failed attempt
Curses! Foiled again!
s to obtain a sniper rifle, explosives and rocket fuel via the internet. He did, however, manage to buy a knife online which he planned to use in the stabbing attack.
Online? When he could more easily have picked up a knife at his local 7-Eleven or stolen it from his mother’s kitchen? Darwin certainly won in this case.
Sarsour is accused of trafficking offenses, manufacturing and importing a knife, attempted illegal travel abroad, funding terror and obstructing justice as well as other offenses, according to the indictments filed Sunday at the Central District Court.
Idle hands are the Devil’s playthings, ‘tis said...
"The defendant, over a long period of time, expressed identification and support for terror groups, expressed a strong desire to leave for Syria for the purposes of jihad, took an intense interest in weapons and explosives, and was even in contact with declared terror organizations," according to the court papers.
The only think missing is a claim of mental disability...
During 2017-2018 and up until his arrest, Sarsour was in contact with activists and supporters of terror organizations and jihad organizations, via the WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram apps, prosecutors charged.

Sarsour allegedly contacted a member of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
group in Syria, and gave him money on different occasions. In 2017 he planned to leave for Syria and join one of the jihadist groups fighting against the Syrian regime. He bought a ticket from Israel to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
on November 7, 2017, and arranged with that activist to illegally cross the border into Syria. The night before he was due to travel his mother found out about his intentions and stopped him from going to the airport, even taking away his passport.

He is also accused of contacting an al-Qaeda supporter over the internet and asking him to help coordinate the liquidation of a Dutch political activist who in 2018 organized an Prophet Mohammed art contest. Under Islamic law, it is forbidden to make images of the Prophet Mohammed.

During 2017-2018 Sarsour allegedly surfed websites supporting terror and those offering services to purchase weapons, explosives and other means to prepare weapons.

He tried to buy potassium to make rockets, even paying a seller who then responded that potassium can’t be sent to Israel. He also looked into buying a $14,000 sniper rifle, prosecutors said.

According to an additional indictment in 2015 Sarsour decided to carry out a stabbing attack against Jews, the Justice Ministry statement said. He bought a knife for that purpose over the internet and then took it along as he prayed at the al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem ahead of carrying out the attack. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
an acquaintance persuaded him to not carry out the plan.

On October 21, security forces arrived to arrest him at home at which point Sarsour tried to delete the Facebook app from his cellphone.

The indictment noted that Sarour’s actions "point to an bully boy ideology which is expressed in a tendency to carry out active terror actions and so there is a reasonable concern that the defendant will endanger public safety."

Prosecutors asked that he be held until the end of proceedings.

Seven years after Arab Spring, how Tunisia has charted its own course
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Being half English and half Tunisian, living in Dubai, and travelling back home for at least three months every year, I remember the despair that was felt in the country during the uprising and indeed following the revolution in 2011.

Each conversation we engaged in, whether with family or taxi drivers, was centralized around what was happening and the effect that it was having on the country. However, what resonated with me was the belief and the utter strength that Tunisians showed during this time, as example for their neighbors facing similar challenges with their governments.

After Mohamed Bouazizi tragically set himself aflame, after being prevented from selling fruit to make a living, this extreme sequence of events sent ripples through the Arab world. It sparked revolutions in Libya and Egypt, giving light to what became known as the ‘Arab Spring’ by the Western world.

Tunisia has since been recognized for their progressive politics on an international scale. Tunisia won the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize and was praised for becoming the only Arab nation with a functioning democracy coming out of the revolution of 2011.

Seven years later, the optimism of the country and its progress has garnered international attention and leaves me proud as a Tunisian.

EVOLUTION OF POLITICS
Since 2011, Tunisia has faced many trials and tribulations in its struggle to become a well-established democracy. Despite becoming the most successful among Arab nations that underwent a political uprising, Tunisia still has a long way to go before it can achieve absolute democracy.

With the election of the current Tunisian president, Beji Caid Essebsi, the country has witnessed substantial progression toward a more socially equal nation.

I personally recall the tension in the country during these elections. It was clear that Tunisians wanted nothing more than a logical and liberal government, far removed from the religious political party.

Essebsi’s election to me was the first move toward healing the country following revolution. Recent progress made, such as ending inequality in inheritance for women, proves that Tunisia is headed in the right direction.

EXTREMISM
The barbaric terror attacks in 2015 on the Bardo museum and the targeting of European tourists at a beach resort in Sousse, carried out by ISIS, changed the atmosphere in the country.

During my visits after these events, I could sense that Tunisia’s morale had taken a hit and the discussions I was used to having with people abroad about Tunisia became about terrorism as opposed to the success of the revolution.

What I remembered vividly was the Foreign and Commonwealth Office warning British nationals against traveling to Tunisia where they had increased the terror threat level to critical. This hit me hard as I was in Tunisia during the time of the Sousse attack even though luckily I was far away from the scene of the crime.

THE FUTURE
Even though these unfortunate events took place, the President made it clear that terrorism had no place in Tunisia and that the Tunisian people stood tall in their democratic and liberal convictions. I even remember the popular hashtag #TahyaTounes. Once again social media brought the nation together, mirroring the revolution.

The future for Tunisia looks promising, for all they have accomplished politically and socially they are at the forefront of breaking boundaries in the Arab world and modernizing their way of life. In the years to come there will be several economic difficulties to overcome. However, with a reasonable and liberal government, I believe Tunisia will thrive.

Tunisia is today focusing on social issues and is trying to become a role model and a force to reckon with in the Arab world. Emerging from the aftereffects of Ben Ali’s regime has meant suffering. However, this has also instilled the feeling of liberation in the hearts of Tunisians, for without struggle, there is no success.

US-backed force says resuming anti-IS assault in eastern Syria
[Rudaw] A Kurdish-led force backed by a US-led anti-jihadist coalition said Sunday that it was resuming its offensive against the Islamic State

group in eastern Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an Arab-Kurdish alliance, had announced it was suspending its operation on October 31 after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
shelled Kurdish militia posts in northern Syria.

The SDF said the resumption followed "intensive contacts" with the international coalition and "strong diplomatic activity" to defuse the crisis.

"The leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces has decided to resume military operations against the Islamic State group, and work towards its definitive defeat," the force said in an online statement.

"While it remains determined to chase down terrorism, (the SDF) also confirms its determination to protect the northern border of Syria," it added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said the operation had not yet restarted, although SDF reinforcements had been sent to the area.

However it said the international coalition had continued to conduct air raids on the area, killing dozens of jihadists as well as civilians.

The Britannia-based monitor, which relies on a network of contacts across Syria, has reported near-daily Ottoman Turkish shelling in Kurdish areas since late October, which killed five Kurdish fighters.

But on Sunday it said coalition officials had assured Kurdish forces that Turkey would cease its shelling, adding that there had been no bombardment there since Friday.

Ankara views the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which forms the backbone of the SDF, as a "terrorist" group linked to Kurdish rebels who have waged a decades-long insurgency inside Turkey.

The Ottoman Turkish government has long opposed the establishment of a de facto autonomous Kurdish area in northeastern Syria, fearing it could embolden separatists at home.

But its NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
ally Washington has backed the Kurdish fighters in the battle against IS.

After the SDF announced it was halting its operation, Washington said it was in communication with both sides to push for de-escalation.

In an attempt to defuse tensions, Ottoman Turkish and American troops launched joint patrols in the northern Syrian city of Manbij earlier this month.

They also carried out patrols in Kurdish territories shelled by Turkey.

Backed by the international coalition, the SDF launched its assault on the IS enclave around the Euphrates valley town of Hajin on September 10.

After making progress against the jihadists, it suffered a major setback last month when IS fighters launched a series of deadly counter-attacks using the cover of sand storms.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Woman charged over Australia strawberry needle scare
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A woman has been charged after a "complex" investigation into an Australian strawberry scare where needles were found stuck into the fruit, police said Sunday, in a crisis that sparked nationwide panic.

Queensland state authorities offered a large reward and the national government raised jail terms for such crimes after sewing needles were found in plastic boxes of the fruit sold in supermarkets in September.

Since the first case came to light when a man was taken to hospital with stomach pains after consuming strawberries, more than 100 alleged incidents of pins and needles found in fruit, mostly strawberries, were reported in September around the country.

One incident was also reported in neighbouring New Zealand.

Police said a 50-year-old woman was locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
and charged on Sunday with seven counts of contaminating goods "following a complex... and extensive investigation".

"This is a major and unprecedented police investigation with a lot of complexities involved," Detective Superintendent Jon Wacker said in a statement.

"The Queensland Police Service has allocated a significant amount of resources to ensure those responsible are brought to justice."

She faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment and is due in a Brisbane court on Monday.

Police did not reveal the reasons and motives behind her alleged involvement.

The sabotage crisis led supermarkets to pull the fruit from the shelves and saw farmers dump tonnes of the unwanted berry. The government raised the maximum prison sentence for fruit tampering from 10 to 15 years.

Afghanistan
Explosion in Kabul leaves at least 26 dead, wounded
[KhaamaPress] At least twenty six people were killed or maimed in an kaboom triggered by a suicide kaboom in Kabul city earlier this afternoon.

Deputy front man for the Ministry of Interior Nusrat Rahimi said the blast left six dead and at least twenty others maimed.

Interior Ministry front man Najib Danish had earlier confirmed a suicide attack has taken place close to Estiqlal High School and preliminary reports indicate at least ten people were killed or maimed in the attack.

The Ministry of Public Health had also said earlier at least three people have been killed and at least eight others have sustained injuries in the attack.

This comes as protests are underway not far from the area where the kaboom took place this afternoon.

Hundreds of protesters marched towards Presidential Palace in Kabul late last night demanding President Ghani’s immediate actions regarding the recent wave of violence which struck two districts in Ghazni and another district in Uruzan province, mainly inhabited by Hazara
...a grouping of Dari-speaking people of Sino-Tibetan descent inhabiting Afghanistan and Pakistain. They are predominantly Shia Moslems and not particularly warlike, which makes them favored targets...
s of Afghanistan.

The protesters have gathered near the road leading towards Presidential Palace and demand President Ghani to issue a decree to suppress the Talibs.

No individual or group has so far grabbed credit behind the incident.
Dawn adds:

group claimed a suicide kaboom that killed six people in Kabul on Monday and maimed 20 others, its propaganda agency Amaq said.

"A suicide attacker wearing an explosives belt hits a gathering of Shiites near the presidential palace... in Kabul," Amaq said.

Afghan interior ministry front man Najib Danish said the blast struck in front of a high school in the downtown area of the Afghan capital, near the presidential palace.

Initial reports indicated most of the victims were members of the security forces, but Danish said civilians, including several women, had borne the brunt of the carnage.
And from Tolo News:
The explosion happened just after 1.30pm local time.

According to a ministry of interior spokesman, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives after being spotted by police.

Hundreds of protesters have been gathered in the area throughout the day after marching to the Presidential Palace early Monday in protest over the lack of security and ongoing Taliban threats in Ghazni and Uruzgan provinces.

Security had been tightened from early morning in the area, with most roads closed to traffic, after protesters started gathering near the Presidential Palace.

The ministry of interior said in a statement that the suicide bomber blew himself up at a check point in the area.

The shocking images of al-Houthi dating back to 2016 shows him with his AK-47 placed either on his lap or on a table during multiple interviews that were aired on pro-Houthi channels.

Yemeni Minister of Information Muammar al-Iryani has questioned how a "criminal responsible for thousands of violations against the Yemeni people" could be given space to publish an opinion piece in the Washington Post.

Muslim World League chief calls for ‘good faith’ with other cultures, religions
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Secretary-General of the Moslem World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul-Karim al-Issa, has called for the attention regarding Islamic discourse and the need to commit to good faith when talking with the different cultures and religious.

Al-Issa’s statement came during his acceptance of the Moderation Prize given to him in Jeddah by Mecca Governor Prince Khaled Alfaisal in appreciation of his international efforts in disseminating moderation.

"We all have the honor to be in the fold of moderation in the state that values justice and principles, and within the broad horizon that brings together everyone in accordance with the guidance of our wise Sharia. This includes the rational pace which represents the balance between what is in excess or negligent," he said at the ceremony held at King Abdulaziz University.

#1  Inter alia, the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is an offspring of the Muslim World League. So too is the very Islamist International Islamic Relief Organization. Ironically, the Royal family has lavished funds on the MWL, an institution whose ties to the Muslim Brotherhood has never been disavowed publicly.

Security guard killed by police in Robbins bar wanted to be a cop, friends say
The security guard fatally shot by police at a suburban bar Sunday loved music and had plans to become a police officer, friends said.

Jemel Roberson, 26, was shot dead by a Midlothian police officer responding to a shooting inside Manny's Blue Room Bar in Robbins, Illinois, about 4 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses said officers shot at the wrong man.

"Everybody was screaming out, 'Security!' He was a security guard," witness Adam Harris said. "And they still did their job, and saw a black man with a gun, and basically killed him."

It all began when security asked a group of drunken men to leave Manny's shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses said someone came back with a gun and opened fire. Security returned fire, witnesses said, and Roberson was able to detain one of the men involved outside.

"He had somebody on the ground with his knee in back, with his gun in his back, like, 'Don't move,'" Harris said.

Soon after, according to witnesses, an officer responding to the scene shot at Roberson ‐ killing him.

Authorities released few details Sunday.

Four other people, including the suspected shooter, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

A spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office said Roberson had a valid FOID card, but did not have a concealed-carry license.

In a statement, Midlothian police confirmed two officers from the department responded to the scene of the shooting and that one of them opened fire.

"A Midlothian officer encountered a subject with a gun and was involved in an officer-involved shooting. The subject the officer shot was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital," Chief Daniel Delaney of the Midlothian Police Department said in a statement.

Friends said Roberson was an upstanding guy who had plans to become a police officer. He was also a musician, playing keyboard and drums at several Chicago-area churches.

House Democrats plan to investigate EVERYTHING TRUMP and bog him down with scores of subpoenas!
[Right Scoop] If you thought the media and the Democrats went crazy during the first two years of Trump’s presidency, just wait and see now nutso they go during the second two years. Democrats are already planning to investigate everything under the sun related to Trump and are preparing a ’subpoena cannon’ to constantly fire at him. This is all a plan to find anything they can to try and impeach Trump.

AXIOS ‐ House Democrats plan to probe every aspect of President Trump’s life and work, from family business dealings to the Space Force to his tax returns to possible "leverage" by Russia, top Democrats tell us.

What they’re saying: One senior Democratic source said the new majority, which takes power in January, is preparing a "subpoena cannon," like an arena T-shirt cannon.

Incoming House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told "Axios on HBO" that he expects Trump to resist the committees’ requests, demands and subpoenas ‐ likely pushing fights over documents and testimony as far as the Supreme Court.

#10  The House is perpetually bogged down trying to get annual appropriations out. I expect no different with the Donks, if even more so, with the usual Omnibus Treasury buster as their answer*. I recommend continuing resolutions.

* if we ever get back to a republic, make sure that if the legislative branch fails to deliver appropriations before the end of the fiscal year - all members are barred from reelection or appointment to any federal office for 10 years.

Iran honoring nuclear deal as new sanctions hit, IAEA report shows
Golly — they met the no-expectations agreement.
[AlAhram] Iran has continued to implement the main nuclear restrictions set by its 2015 deal with major powers, a quarterly U.N. watchdog report shows, though several items were verified shortly before reimposed U.S. sanctions took effect.

Iran has kept its stock of low-enriched uranium as well as the level to which it enriches uranium within the limits set by the landmark deal, according to the confidential ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency report to IAEA member states, obtained by Rooters on Monday.

The stock of Iran’s low-enriched uranium was verified on Nov. 4, the day before the latest round of U.S. sanctions against Tehran came into force following Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear accord. Iran’s stock of heavy water, another material limited under the deal that was also within the cap set, was verified on Nov. 3, the report showed.

Tense Of Fighting Mounting High In Central Somalia
[RADIOSHABELLE] Reports reaching us from Galgadud region in central Somalia indicate that an escalating tension is brewing in parts of Galgadud region of central Somalia on Monday.

Local residents in Balanbal village say two armed rival clan holy warriors are mobilizing in for battle over the ownership of grazing land and boreholes on the outskirts of Guri’el town.

The tension has forced many families to flee their houses in fear of war that could break out at any time due to the building up of hostility between the two opposing sides who have been battling in the area for the past years.

The traditional elders and authorities in the area are making efforts to put out the tension and bring the warring clans into the negotiating table to end their dispute through peaceful dialogue.

Expat booked on blasphemy charges
[DAWN] An expatriate Pak living in Germany was booked by the local police on Monday under the blasphemy charges after his "blasphemous" video went viral on the social media.

The complainant also demanded the extradition of the suspect from Germany and death penalty
for him.

He also demanded the suspect’s family and any other person who believed in the blasphemous remarks uttered by him should also be taken to task, whereas the legal action should also be taken against the web-based news channel which aired the video.

Witnesses in fake accounts case vanished, SC told
[DAWN] The Supreme Court hearing a Rs35 billion fake accounts case was told on Monday that two witnesses to whom the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had issued summons for investigation had vanished.

A three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, however, issued notices to Inspector General of Sindh Police Kaleem Imam after senior counsel Sardar Muhammad Aslam requested the court to order the provincial police to recover the disappeared persons.

The chief justice asked what would police do if someone had disappeared on his own? "Let us ask from the IG Sindh whether they have disappeared on their own or someone has kidnapped them," he said.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan asked if the provincial police could be of any help.

Mr Aslam is representing the family members of Mohammad Bashir and Abdul Jabbar ‐ the two witnesses who have disappeared in a mysterious manner after they were summoned by the joint investigation team that is probing the fake accounts case.
