Teenager charged in killing, burning of 85-year-old Korean War vet
[WAPO] Gene Emory Dacus often sacrificed his own comfort for that of others.

At the beginning of the 1950s, he was one of many young men who shipped off to Korea, fighting a war half a world from his home in Georgia. After the war ended in 1953 and his three sons -- one of whom is disabled -- finished school, he moved with his wife, Earnestine, to Birmingham, Ala., to care for his grandparents. There, he was embraced by his neighbors, for whom he often cut the grass -- even at 85 years old -- to keep the neighborhood looking tidy.

As his neighbor Helen McComb told AL.com, "He’s been here forever. People here loved Mr. Gene. He was very sweet to all of the children. He kept our neighborhood clean."

After his wife passed away in 2005, he cared for his now 60-year-old disabled son in the house, alone.

"Good man. Uncomparably good man," Robert Stanley, a relative, told WBRC.

His son Gary Dacus credits his own success to his father’s example.

"He taught me good rules and I have a lot of my father in me," he told AL.com. "I’m a successful person for that ... He was the most kindhearted gentleman you ever met. He never met a stranger, and he helped anybody he could."

On Wednesday, neighbors alerted Stanley, a neighbor and relative of Dacus’s, that they smelled smoke and saw fire coming from the back yard of Dacus’s house. They thought maybe his RV had caught fire, or that someone had set fire to it -- police said witnesses had seen a young black man running through a nearby alleyway with a red gasoline jug.

Stanley sent his son to investigate.

But the camper wasn’t on fire. What he found was far more shocking and horrifying.

It was Dacus’s body, in the back yard of the home he lived in for more than 50 years, engulfed in flames.

"My son was the one that found him," Stanley told WBRC. "The neighbors said they thought the camper was on fire. He went around back to see if the camper was on fire, and it was Gene."

McComb, a neighbor, saw Stanley’s son emerge from the yard.

"I could see something burning," she told AL.com. "Then a guy ran out yelling somebody had burned up Mr. Gene."

Dacus was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue, WCMH reported.

Paul Manafort Resigns From Donald Trump's Campaign
[ABC] Donald Trump's campaign chairman Paul Manafort has resigned from the campaign following the hiring of new leadership and reports last week questioning Manafort’s ties to Russia.

"This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign," Trump confirmed in a statement. "I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success."

Lamont Hill: Just Because Poor Cities Are Run by Democrats, Doesn't Mean Democrats Are to Blame
[News Busters] On Wednesday's CNN New Day, Chris Cuomo brought on CNN commentator, author and host of BET News Marc Lamont Hill and former Secret Service agent and current candidate for congress in Florida Dan Bongino, to discuss Trump polling poorly with African-Americans. While Bongino argued that democrat run cities have failed black communities, Lamont Hill claimed that poverty and Democrat machines are connected, but that "doesn't mean" being a Democrat makes you poor.

After Cuomo brought up a new ABC News/WSJ poll that predicted only one percent of blacks would vote for Trump, he asked Bongino why Trump was unable to make the case to blacks that their Democrat-run communities would only keep them in poverty. Bongino responded:

DAN BONGINO: Yeah, you know, Chris, this is one of the great mysteries of my life. If I was granted omnipotence by the Lord tomorrow to change one thing, it would be to be able to walk into the black community and largely in inner cities and say, please, look at what's happening here. I mean, these communities have been ruled monopolistically by far left big government liberals for decades. In some cases since the '20s and '30s. These communities have been driven into the ground. I mean, you don't have to be a scientist to look at the evidence, the correlational evidence right in front of you. Liberalism correlates with poverty and high crime every single place it's been tried. Yet, you have some members of the black community which support the democratic party, which continues to bankrupt them. I wish I could change it. I wish the Trump campaign could as well.

Marc Lamont Hill took offense to that, wincing then claiming there was "[N]othing far left about Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia," at which Bongino, flabbergasted, asked, "What?"

Cal Thomas: Hard truths about inner-city dysfunction
BLUF: [Wash Times] In an appearance Monday on Fox, Sheriff Clarke, who is African-American, offered his explanation for the major cause of riots in Milwaukee and other cities: "You know what encourages this? The growth of the welfare state. These are underclass behaviors. Seventy percent of the kids born in Milwaukee are born without an engaged father in their life. So I look at the progressive policies that have marginalized black dads. They push them to the side and say ’you’re not needed.’ Uncle Sam is going to be the dad, he’s going to provide for the kids, he’s going to feed the kids . Uncle Sam has been a horrible father. Uncle Sam does not love these kids. He might keep a little food in their mouths and that is about it. But we all know the importance of an intact family, what it can do to shape the behavior of kids."

Sheriff Clarke called progressive policies "a total disaster," not only in Milwaukee, but in Chicago, Baltimore, New York and elsewhere. "These progressive policies have hit the black community like a nuclear blast and until we reverse this government dependency, that’s what creates all of this and it encourages it by the way, along with some questionable lifestyle choices."

#4  "Underclass"? Clearly the good sheriff has studied his Sowell and Dalrymple. Thomas Sowell in 2001:

A recently published book titled Life at the Bottom paints a brilliantly insightful, but very painful, picture of the underclass -- its emptiness, agonies, violence and moral squalor. This book is about a British underclass neighborhood where its author, Theodore Dalrymple, works as a doctor. That may in fact make its message easier for many Americans to understand and accept.

Most of the people that Dalrymple writes about are white, so it may be possible at last to take an honest look at the causes and consequences of an underclass lifestyle, without fear of being called "racist." The people who are doing the same socially destructive and self-destructive things that are being done in underclass neighborhoods in the United States cannot claim that it is because their ancestors were enslaved or because they face racial discrimination.

Life At The Bottom is currently on sale in kindle form at Amazon for $3.99. Highly recommended.

Did The Proxy War In Syria Just Attract Another Big Time US Rival?
[Daily Caller] Chinese officials revealed a desire for closer relations with Syrian counterparts during a meeting over the weekend.

Chinese Rear Admiral Guan Youfei met Sunday with Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij in Damascus, reported China’s Xinhua News Agency.

China plans to offer its continued support to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s beleaguered authoritarian regime. "China and Syria’s militaries have traditionally maintained a friendly relationship, and China’s military is willing to keep strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Syria’s military," Guan told al-Freij during the recent Damascus meeting.

Without revealing any specifics, Xinhua’s report said that China would provide "military training" and "humanitarian aid" to Syria.

Clinton told FBI Colin Powell suggested she use private email: NYT
[Reuters] Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told federal investigators that former Secretary of State Colin Powell suggested she use a personal email account, the New York Times reported late on Thursday.

Clinton has for over a year been dogged by questions about her use of a private email account while she was the nation's top diplomat.

The newspaper said the information came from notes the Federal Bureau of Investigation delivered to Congress on Tuesday, which contained details from a more than three hour interview the agency conducted with Clinton over her private email use.

The Times also cited an upcoming book that described a dinner conversation where Powell told Clinton to use her own email except for classified information. The newspaper also reported that Clinton asked Powell in a 2009 email exchange about his use of email while serving under former president George W. Bush.

Just for the record (emphasis added): The Non-classified Internet Protocol (IP) Router Network (abbreviated as "NIPRNet," but commonly written "NIPRNET"), is a private IP network used to exchange unclassified information, including information subject to controls on distribution, among the private network's users. The NIPRNet also provides its users access to the Internet. NIPRNet is composed of Internet Protocol routers owned by the United States Department of Defense (DOD). It was created in the 1980s and managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to supersede the earlier MILNET. NIPRNET is the largest private network in the world. Wiki

Erdogan's Turkey is a Major Islamist Hub, Says Leaked German Intel Report
[Legal Insurrection] A newly leaked German intelligence report dubbed Turkey as a major hub for Jihadi groups operating worldwide. The confidential document belonging to German Interior Ministry published by several German newspapers says that Erdogan-ruled Turkey has "developed into a central platform of activity for Islamist groups in the Middle East." The latest revelations should not come as a surprise to anyone, however the publication of confidential document puts more pressure on German government to take a tougher stand against Erdogan’s Islamist Regime.
The BND, nothing escapes them. Nothing!
The internal assessment drawn by Germany’s intelligence service, BND, sees "ideological affinity" between Erdogan Regime and Islamist terror groups. The report specifically focuses on Turkey’s ties to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Gaza-based Hamas. Erdogan Regime has been one of the strongest backer of Hamas -- ever since the terrorist group took hold of Gaza in 2006.

The revelations in Germany coincide with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s decision to release 38,000 convicted criminals from the country’s prisons to make rooms for tens of thousands of political detainees following the last month’s failed military coup against his government. In a sweeping post-coup clampdown, Turkish government has arrested 35,000 citizens including not just military personnel but also journalists, judges, civil servants and school teachers.

An Islamist by conviction, Erdogan, who’s has been running Turkey since 2003, has made no secret of his disgust for democracy and rule of law. Early in his career, he told his followers that ’democracy was like a train’ he intends to ’get off once he reaches his destination’. With opposition and critics now rounded up and thrown in jails without trial, Erdogan and his Islamist goons have now abandoned that train for good.

"As a result of the increasing Islamization of Ankara’s domestic and foreign policy since 2011, Turkey has become a central platform for action for Islamist groupings," the leaked intelligence document said. Germany’s state-run broadcaster DW News reports:

Merkel's Ostministerium: 'Islam Belongs In Germany'
[Breitbart London] NEUSTRELITZ, Germany (Reuters) ‐ Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday refugees had not brought terrorism to Germany, adding that Islam belonged in the country as long as it was practised in a way that respected the constitution.

More than a million people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere arrived in Germany last year. The mood towards them has soured after a spate of attacks on civilians last month, including three carried out by migrants.

Two of those attacks were claimed by the Islamic State militant group.

"The phenomenon of Islamist terrorism, of IS, is not a phenomenon that came to us with the refugees," Merkel said at an election campaign event for her Christian Democrats in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ahead of a regional vote on Sept. 4.
The political leveraging of the Islamic ideology has some very deep roots.

IDF troops arrest 5, seize weaponry in West Bank raids
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinians detained on terror-related charges as shotgun, homemade grenades and cash confiscated from Nablus

Israeli security forces incarcerated
Please don't kill me!
several suspected bandidos murderous Moslems in the northern West Bank overnight Thursday and found thousands of shekels in cash as well as grenades and a shotgun during a search of the suspects’ homes.

Two suspects from the northern West Bank city of Nablus were arrested after security forces uncovered a homemade grenade and ammunition during the early morning raid, the army said in a statement Thursday morning.

The overnight sweep was carried out by IDF soldiers, Civil Administration officials and Israel Police.

In the West Bank village of Jaba, IDF soldiers seized a shotgun, ammunition and military equipment, and made one arrest.

Another three Paleostinians wanted by Israel on terrorism-related offenses from the West Bank villages of Bani Naim and Kifl Haris were arrested in the raids.

The suspects and the seized cash were handed over to security forces for further investigation.

Last week, Paleostinian residents of the Deheishe refugee camp outside Bethlehem clashed with Israeli troops after arresting Nidal Abu Aker, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine terrorist organization.

Co-founder of Hamas military wing issues startling apology to Palestinians
[IsraelTimes] Muhammad Nazami Nasser sorry for ’destruction’ caused to his people by his group, which he indicates he now considers ’the devil’; expresses no regret to Israel

A Paleostinian terrorist who co-founded Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,’s notorious military wing in 1991 and was directly involved in the killing of Israeli soldiers, published a startling Facebook post in which he apologized to fellow Paleostinians for his activities. He also indicated that he now considers the Islamist terror group, which he did not mention by name, to be "the devil," sowing hatred and bringing destruction to the Paleostinian people. He made no apology for terrorism and violence directed against Israel.

Nasser is now part of a political movement called "Wataniyyin" or patriots, comprising former Fatah and PFLP members working for reconciliation among Paleostinian factions.
Muhammad Nazami Nasser was one of the founders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, which has been responsible for years of terrorism against Israel and is headed by terror chief Mohammed Deif. In 1989, Nasser was one of the Hamas team that kidnapped and murdered Israeli soldiers Avi Sasportas and Ilan Saadon. Those attacks marked the first time Hamas had kidnapped and killed Israeli soldiers.

Egypt’s Islamic State group affiliate confirms killing of its chief
[AlAhram] Egypt’s affiliate of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has confirmed the death of its chief, which comes two weeks after the military announced the killing during an operation in the North Sinai.

In a statement shared online by accounts affiliated to the group on Thursday, the group said that Abu Doaa Al-Ansari along with other fighters were killed while "countering a military campaign by the apostate army."

On 4 August, the Egyptian army said it had killed Al-Ansari along with his top aides and dozens of others jihadists in a series of Arclight airstrikes. It did not say when the operation took place.

Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis was the original name of the group, which now calls itself Sinai Province. The group, which has claimed most of the deadly violence over the past year, swore allegiance to the Islamic State group in November 2014.

It said in its statement that a new chief, Sheikh Abdullah, has been named, while warning that worse and "more bitter" attacks are yet to come.

The military has carried out several campaigns to crush gunnies and cut off their arms supplies.

The army said it had killed 88 snuffies in the third phase of its 'Right of the Martyr' campaign in May, and that another 22 were killed in a multi-day operation early in June.

It said the military aircraft had taken off from bases in both Russia and Iran and destroyed six command posts and a large number of fighters and military equipment.

All the Russian planes returned to base after the strikes, the defence ministry said.

Twitter axes 235,000 more accounts in terror crackdown
[IsraelTimes] Latest suspensions raise to 360,000 the total number of accounts sidelined since the middle of 2015

Twitter on Thursday announced that it has cut off 235,000 more accounts for violating its policies regarding promotion of terrorism at the global one-to-many messaging service.

The latest account suspensions raised to 360,000 the total number of accounts sidelined since the middle of 2015 and was helping "drive meaningful results" in curbing the activity, according to the the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
-based company.

Twitter has been under pressure to balance protecting free speech at the service with not providing a stage for terrorist groups to spread violent messages and enlist people to their causes.

The latest account suspensions came since February, when Twitter announced that it had neutralized 125,000 accounts for violating rules against violent threats and promotion of terrorism.

"Since that announcement, the world has witnessed a further wave of deadly, abhorrent terror attacks across the globe," Twitter said in a blog post.

"We strongly condemn these acts and remain committed to eliminating the promotion of violence or terrorism on our platform."

Daily suspensions of accounts are up more than 80 percent since last year, and spike in the immediate aftermath of terror attacks, according to Twitter.

Twitter said that it is getting quicker at identifying terrorist content and shutting down accounts involved, resulting in dramatic decreases in the number of followers attracted while they are active.

Moves have been made to make it tougher for people behind suspended accounts to immediately return to Twitter, and teams reviewing reports of suspected terror content have been expanded.

A US judge last week tossed out a lawsuit accusing Twitter of abetting terrorism by allowing Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. propaganda to be broadcast using the messaging platform.

District Court Judge William Orrick granted a motion by Twitter to dismiss the case, reasoning that providing a platform for speech is within the law and that the company did not create the content.

The Communications Decency Act protects online platforms from being held responsible for what users post.

The Grand Turk
Turkey's purge continues - Friday August 19
Bosses, baklava kings detained in anti-Gülen probe
In which the financing of the sultinate is secured.
[Hurriyet] The chief prosecutor in Istanbul has issued orders for the confiscation of the properties of 187 suspects, including Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) Chairman Rızanur Meral, Aydınlı Group Chairman Ömer Faruk Kavurmacı and two brothers who run two separate Güllüoğlu Baklava chains, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Aug. 18.

The decision on the confiscation of properties was taken under a statutory decree, which had been published as part of the three-month state of emergency in Turkey.

Sixty people were taken into custody, the prosecutor’s office said.

Among the businesses targeted were two Fortune 500 companies, broadcaster CNN Türk said, naming clothing makers Aydınlı and Eroğlu Holding, which both run large retail chains.

Earlier on Aug. 18, police raided over 200 addresses across 18 provinces, including Istanbul, as part of a nationwide probe into the financing of the Gülenist group, the suspect of the failed coup attempt on July 15.

The source said arrest warrants had been issued for a total of 187 people.

The Aug. 18 raids follow a major operation in Istanbul on Aug. 16 against 51 companies suspected of supporting the followers of Gülen. Eighty arrests were made.

More than 20,000 arrested over Gülen links: Turkish PM

[Hurriyet] “The total number of detentions, which include police officers, soldiers, judicial personnel, local authorities and civilians, has reached 40,029. Some 5,187 are still in custody and a total of 20,355 were arrested,” Yıldırım told state-run news broadcaster TRT Haber late on Aug. 17, adding that nearly 80,000 civil servants had been suspended over FETÖ links.

“A total of 79,900 civil servants were suspended and 5,014 were dismissed,” he added.

Saying the difference between being suspended and dismissed should be clarified, Yıldırım noted that the suspended personnel are being investigated.

“The process of dismissing the suspended personnel with links to this terrorist organization will continue. The ones who are innocent will remain in their posts,” he added.

During his interview, Yıldırım said a total of 4,262 institutions were shut down, seized or transferred to public institutions, adding that the number included hospitals, schools, dormitories, foundations, associations, universities, news agencies, TV channels, radio stations, newspapers, publishing houses, distribution channels and unions.

Turkey Asks Greece to Extradite 8 Military Staff

[AnNahar] Greece's foreign ministry says it has received an official extradition request from Turkey seeking the return of eight Turkish military personnel who fled to northern Greece by helicopter after an abortive coup in Turkey.

The eight — six helicopter pilots and two engineers — deny involvement in Turkey's July 15 attempted coup. They flew to the northeastern Greek city of Alexandroupolis the following morning and have applied for asylum in Greece, saying they fear they would not face a fair trial if returned to Turkey and that their lives would be endangered.

They received suspended sentences in Greece for illegally entering the country, and are due for asylum application interviews Friday.

Wall Street analyst: 'Shut down Clinton Foundation'
[WND] NEW YORK - A prominent lawyer and a top government watchdog in the nation’s capital are calling for the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation to be shut down as a Wall Street analyst prepares to issue a second report documenting what he believes is systematic financial fraud warranting a criminal investigation.

Wall Street analyst and investor Charles Ortel, in his first report of his in-depth probe of the Clinton Foundation, found what he characterizes as an elaborate system devised by the Clintons to enrich themselves through schemes such as skimming tens of millions of dollars from U.N. levies imposed on airline travelers.

His second report, some 300 pages of analysis set for release Monday on his website, documents what he calls material irregularities, errors and omissions in financial regulatory reporting since the foundation’s inception.

Ortel believes that once his findings have been studied, state and local law enforcement authorities will initiate multiple criminal investigations and charge the Clintons with "private inurement," the crime of enriching themselves through a nonprofit organization.
The 'Foundation' is likely already being shut down, or transferred elsewhere under a different name. Look for the financial records to be misplaced in transit.

Arabia
4 die in al-Qaeda bomb attack in Abyan
ADEN: An Al-Qaeda suicide bomber killed four Yemeni soldiers in an attack Thursday in the Abyan province, where government forces have launched an anti-extremist offensive, a military official said.

The attacker rammed his car into two military vehicles parked on a road linking the towns of Loder and Moudia in Abyan province, the source said. “Four soldiers were killed and others were wounded,” the official told AFP.

The attack came after troops recaptured both towns from the terrorists who fled to surrounding mountains as the army entered, residents said.

Military sources said the bombing was a retaliation attack by Al-Qaeda after government troops recaptured parts of Abyan, including provincial capital Zinjibar.

Government forces, backed by air power from a Saudi-led coalition, launched the offensive to retake Abyan on Sunday, after they failed to recapture the vast province earlier this year.

Al-Qaeda and Daesh group have exploited a power vacuum in Yemen to expand their presence in the country’s south and southeast.

Yemeni authorities had trained hundreds of soldiers in the nearby province of Aden over the past two months to retake Abyan.

Washington considers the Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, to be the extremist network’s deadliest franchise.

Europe
Aegean Sea migrant crossings see hike after Turkey’s coup attempt
The number of migrants reaching the Greek islands from Turkey has hiked since the failed military coup attempt of July 15, pointing to a shortage of controls on the Turkish side.

A total of 2,335 migrants have reached Greece via Turkey since the thwarted coup attempt, while a total of 112 migrants were saved from the sea by Greek and Turkish coast guards on Aug. 17.

The number of migrants reaching Greek islands since the March 18 Ankara-Brussels deal aiming to curb the flow of migrants in the bloc up to June 14 was 8,440. This figure increased to 8,477 by July 14, one day before the failed coup attempt, marking an increase of just 37 people in one month.

However, the number of migrants reaching Greece after taking the perilous journey over the Aegean Sea from Turkey rose to 2,298 in the month after the coup attempt. With the latest surge, the total number of migrants in Greece has increased to 57,679.

As the number of migrants risking their lives in the Aegean for hopes of colonizing better lives in Europe has hiked, the number of migrants being rescued from the sea has also increased.

The Greek Coast Guard rescued 59 migrants from an inflatable dinghy off the island of Kos on Aug. 17, while a second vessel reported to be in trouble was picked up by Turkish authorities, the Associated Press reported.

A total of 147 people arrived on three Greek islands in the 24 hours between the morning of Aug. 16 and morning of Aug. 17, including those rescued in rough weather off Kos. Of the others, 44 reached the small island of Kalymnos and the remaining 44 were picked up by the coast guard from another inflatable dinghy off the island of Lesbos.

Also on Aug. 17, the Turkish Coast Guard rescued passengers on a migrant boat who had called for help citing engine problems, according to the Greek authorities. The boat was found in Turkish waters following an initial search operation on the Greek side between the islands of Samos and Ikaria. The caller said there were about 53 people on board.

Revenge Sex Leads Naked Texas Man to Fall Off Roof While High
An east Texas man told police he fell off the roof of a home while he was having sex with his neighbor's wife. He told the officer he had sex with her because his wife had cheated with the woman's husband.

A police officer in Lufkin, Texas, came upon a naked man covering himself with a piece of carpet. The man had bloody scratches on his body and seemed "paranoid and twitchy," the ArkLATex news reported.

The police officer approached the naked man and asked him about his condition. Officers said the man told him he had fallen off the roof of a house while having sex with a woman who was not his wife.

The police report states that Ricky Dale Brimer, Jr., 31, admitted to police that he had done methamphetamine and the synthetic marijuana K2 earlier in the day. It appeared he was still under the influence of the drugs at the time. Police arrested Brimer, who has a long criminal history according to records obtained by Breitbart Texas from the Angelina County District Clerk’s Office. Those charges include family violence with bodily injury, drug possession, sexual assault of a child, engaging in organized criminal activity and drug possession.

The arrest report states that Brimer claimed he had revenge sex with his friend’s wife on the roof of the home "because his friend had sexual relations with his wife," the Houston Chronicle reported.

Police officers reported that a witness did not see a woman on the roof of the house with Brimer. The neighbor brought Brimer a pair of pants to wear before he was taken into custody.

Brimer was checked out medically and then taken to a local jail where he faces a new charge of public intoxication.

Trump Beginning To Meet Viguerie's Foolproof Test
However, since he began to the think about running for President, and once he announced, he has walked mostly with people from the right-of-center, from Senator Jeff Sessions, to Jerry Falwell, Jr., to conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, to his National Co-Chairman Sam Clovis and economic advisors Steve Moore and Larry Kudlow, Trump's major supporters and many of his inner circle have been from the conservative movement.

Now, the hiring of Kellyanne Conway as campaign manager and Steve Bannon as chief executive of the campaign brought two more movement conservatives into the leadership of Trump’s campaign.

Donald Trump’s recent economic speech, his national security speech and his law and order speech in Wisconsin were full of sound conservative policy prescriptions and were reflective of a strong conservative governing philosophy.

Most importantly, through the ups and downs of his campaign, contrary to the conventional wisdom espoused by the DC political class and the establishment media, Trump has not "moved to the center," but marched steadily to the right.

With Kellyanne Conway and Steve Bannon at the top of the campaign, Mike Pence as Vice President and Senator Jeff Sessions at Donald Trump's side, the Trump campaign is shaping up to be the most ideological campaign since Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign against Jimmy Carter.
But perhaps not the most successful ideological campaign...

1 wounded in bombing in Kabul city
An explosion took place in the vicinity of 4th police district of the city earlier this afternoon.

Security officials confirmed the blast took place as a result of a magnetic bomb attached to a vehicle.

Fraidoon Abedi, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department in Kabul Security commandment, said the magnetic bomb was planted in an army vehicle.

He said one person in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and no casualties were incurred to the other people.
`
Pictures emerging from the site of the incident on social media websites shows a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle damaged as a result of the explosion in Kolola Poshta area of the city.

There has been a considerable rise in the use of magnetic bombs in Kabul city during the recent months as at least 3 people were wounded in a similar incident in Kabul city 3 days ago.

Earlier one person was killed and three others were wounded in a similar attack in Bagrami district of Kabul nearly a week ago.

Two people were killed and two others were wounded after a magnetic bomb planted in a vehicle went off in Kote Sangi area of the city few weeks earlier.

One of the victims was the head of the Human Resources department of the Afghan parliament who was travelling in the vehicle.

Tolo News has more on the attack

The target of Thursday's blast in Kabul appears to have been General Samim Samim, the former secretary for late Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim.

"The child was wounded and they transferred him to hospital," said Ajmal an eyewitness.

"Black smoke rose (from the car) and all the people ran away. I thought it was a suicide attack but when I came forward I saw it was a magnetic mine," said Omid, another eyewitness.

Fighting erupts in Tripoli
Armed vehicles and tanks have appeared on roads around the Tripoli’s Abu Sleem district including the elevated section of the airport road. They are said to be belong to local strongman Abdul Ghani Al-Kikli (also known as Ghneiwa).

It is rumoured that the show of force is in preparation for a fresh attack by Ghneiwa agaisnt the rival Abu Sleem militia, the Salah Al-Burki brigade.

Both have been clashed several times before, the most recent being on 24 June when each accused the other of targeting its supporters. The rivalry between the two former Libya Dawn allies is fuelled by the fact that most of Burki militia are originally from Misrata while many of the Kikli brigade come from Kikla in the Jebel Nafusa, although they staunchly proclaim their loyalty to Tripoli.

Meanwhile, in the same Abu Sleem district today, an armed group attacked the local headquarters of Hatif Libya Telecommunications and cut communications to large parts of the south, east and west of the country. A source from the company has told the Libya Herald that he and his colleagues could not understand why this had been done.

“They have switched off all equipment and the only lines working now are those not connected to this station,” he said.

Mexico police arbitrarily executed 22 in cartel clash
Executions are generally pretty arbitrary...
Mexico’s federal police arbitrarily executed 22 people on a ranch in the western state of Michoacán last year, the country’s human rights commission said on Thursday.
Slow day at the Mexican narco-coppe shoppe...
National Human Rights Commission president Luis Raul Gonzalez Perez said there were also two cases of torture and two more deaths caused by excessive force.

“The investigation confirmed facts that show grave human rights violations attributable to public servants of the federal police,” Gonzalez said.

One police officer was killed in the confrontation on 22 May 2015. The government said the dead were drug cartel suspects who were hiding out on a ranch in Tanhuato near the border with Jalisco state.

The commission also threw doubt on the government’s explanation of what led to the clash in the first place. Federal police had said they encountered a truck and took fire from its passengers before being led to the ranch. The commission’s report said the government did not produce evidence that supported that account.

The lopsided death toll of 42-to-1 had led to suspicions of extrajudicial killings. The commission’s investigation found that 40 of the civilians killed were shot. One died in a fire and another was run over.

The government had refused to release the autopsy reports of the victims. The government’s transparency watchdog earlier said there was no evidence to indicate human rights violations.

Italian city on Swiss border to set up camp for blocked migrants
Because it's worked so well elsewhere in Europe.
[Ynet] Italy will set up a shelter to host as many as 300 migrants stranded near the Swiss border, after Switzerland cracked down on crossings, forcing hundreds to sleep on the ground in a city park, officials said Wednesday.

In mid-July, Switzerland began strict controls on migrants arriving by train from Como, an Italian city on Lake Como. Since then, Switzerland has turned away two-thirds of the migrants who tried to enter the country, compared with one in seven through June of this year.

Starting in mid-September, a city-owned parking lot near the local cemetery will host 50 pre-fabricated modules and showers, bathrooms and a small health clinic to accommodate as many as 300 people temporarily, prefect Bruno Corda said in a news conference broadcast on television.

Migrants will be provided with legal aid on Italy's asylum process at the camp, Corda said. Under European Union law, migrants must seek asylum in Italy, where they arrived by boat from North Africa, because it is the first European country they reached.

"I'm confident that the people who cannot go to Switzerland will want return to a system of legality," Corda said.

But many migrants do not want to stay in Italy, often because they have relatives or friends already living in other countries.

According to the local government officials, the incident took place in Asabad city, the provincial capital of Kunar province today.

Provincial governor Wahidullah Kalimzai said the Taliban militants fired the rocket to disrupt the local officials and residents to celebrate the 97th independence` day of Afghanistan.

The Taliban militants have not commented regarding the incident so far.

This comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan released the latest civilian casualties report late last month which stated at least 3726 civilians were killed or wounded between January and June of this year.

The UN mission said the civilian casualties in the country has reached to a record number since counting began in 2009, with 5,166 civilians recorded killed or maimed in just the first six months of this year, of whom almost one-third were children. The total civilian casualty figure recorded by the UN between 1 January 2009 and 30 June 2016 has risen to 63,934, including 22,941 deaths and 40,993 injured.

According to the UN mission, the anti-government elements remain responsible for 60 percent of the civilian casualties with ground engagements continuing to cause the highest number of civilian casualties, followed by complex and suicide attacks and improved explosive devices (IEDs).This comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan released the latest civilian casualties report late last month which stated at least 3726 civilians were killed or wounded between January and June of this year.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian forces continue to hit Kurd positions in Hasakah
[ARA News] HASAKAH – Kurdish neighborhoods in the Syrian northeastern Hasakah city were exposed on Thursday to heavy shelling and airstrikes by the regime forces.

The Assad regime has used warplanes to bomb Hasakah for the first time.

At least five civilians were killed and dozens more wounded in the regime bombardment in the Kurdish-held Kalasseh and Mahatta neighborhoods, informed local sources old ARA News.

Also, the city saw a wave of displacement among the people who tried to head to more stable areas in the province.

Meanwhile, a number of civilians remained stranded in Hasakah’s conflicted areas where clashes continued between the Kurdish Asayish forces and the pro-regime troops.

Escalating Tentions
Clashes erupted Tuesday between the Kurds and the Syrian regime forces in the northeastern city of Hasakah. It’s unclear how many were killed in the clashes.

Clashes broke out between the Kurdish security police [Asayish] and the pro-regime National Defence Forces in the city centre of Hasakah, near the Hasakah market, after regime forces attacked Kurdish positions on Tuesday afternoon.

Hundreds of civilians fled the market after violence resumed in the city center. Reportedly, several civilians were injured.

“PYD [Kurdish Democratic Union Party] has thus far been trying to bypass the Syrian regime by fostering relations with Russia at the expense of the Syrian state,” Ceng Sagnic, a researcher with the Tel Aviv-based Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, told ARA News.

“As such, escalated tensions between PYD and Syrian regime forces are not any surprise,” he said.

Moreover, analysts suggest the Syrian government rejects any form of federalism in northern Syria, and is not happy with the plans of the Kurdish-led local administration to move towards federalism in northern Syria and Rojava–announced in March this year.

There have been serious rifts between the two sides over the last few months. In late April, heavy clashes took pace between the regime and the Kurdish security forces.

In late July, there were also clashes between a pro-regime militia and the Kurds.

Furthermore, Kurdish officials blamed the regime for facilitating an ISIS attack in the city of Qamishli on 27 July that killed over 50 civilians.

Iraq
Kurds refuse to withdraw forces from Ninevah
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The progress of Peshmerga in Nineveh has raised the fears of the Iraqi government and urged Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to call the Peshmerga not to advance towards Mosul.

The government of Kurdistan Region rejected Abadi’s request and continued to advance in Nineveh, refusing to withdraw from the areas it liberated.

The Kurdish decision reinforced the fears that the Kurdistan region is attempting to monopolize more land, under the pretext of defeating ISIS, in order to expand and declare independence later.

The Kurdish refusal was followed by decisions made by the Supreme Commander of the Peshmerga forces Massoud Barzani regarding the work of his troops in their areas of influence, in order to determine how to deal with civilians in these areas and respect human rights principles.

Manhunt underway after Soddy kop shooting
Authorities have launched a manhunt for six suspects for gunning down an on-duty police official in Saudi Arabia’s Qatif region early on Tuesday.

The six men are on the Interior Ministry list of 23 wanted men sought for terror activities.

Five of the suspects gave themselves up to police willingly, while two of those on the list were murdered by another wanted criminal, Ali Abu Abdullah. Ten were arrested in different operations.

The drive-by attack by masked gunmen wounded Corp. Abdulsalam Al-Enizi who died on the way to hospital, provincial police said in a statement.

“The police building and a patrol car were damaged,” said the statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.

A security source said the police have identified the six gunmen as Ramzy Al-Jamal, Salman Al-Faraj, Ali Al-Zayid, Fadhil Al-Safwani, Mohammad Al-Zayid and Mohammad Al-Lubad.

“These criminals are known for their insurgent and sabotaging crimes. They blend in among the general public and suddenly draw out their rifle and aim at police officers and security guards. The criminals were able to escape from their last crime,” said the source.
It's impossible for a man to hide a rifle when he is wearing a t-shirt and shorts, 'tis said...
Tuesday’s incident was the fourth fatal shooting of a policeman in Qatif since January.

Parts of the Eastern Province have seen repeated security incidents since 2011.

Eastern Province residents have said clashes with police are also sometimes linked to criminal activity including the drug trade.

Qatif was one of three Saudi cities targeted in coordinated bomb attacks on July 4. A suicide bomber struck near a mosque killing himself and two others.

ISIS extremists have claimed attacks against the security personnel elsewhere in the Kingdom.

ISIS artillery hits refugee gathering in Salahuddin

(IraqiNews.com) Salahaddin – A security source in Salahaddin province announced on Thursday that 10 civilians were killed and 26 others injured during an ISIS shelling, which was targeted on the gatherings of displaced families at the northern side of the province.

Sharing details the source said, “ISIS shelled the gatherings of families displaced from the areas under ISIS control. Most of the shelling was carried out in al- Asmida area in Baiji district (40 km north of Salahaddin), killing 10 civilians and wounding 26 others. These families fled from Sharqat and the surrounding villages. ”

“ISIS has planted explosive devices in the path of the families. The road through which these families flee are dangerous and over the time several civilians have lost their lives as well,” further added the source seeking anonymity.

US details ISIS' mayhem committed on Kurds

GENEVA (UN) – A new United Nations report lays bare the widespread and systematic manner in which the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, Da’esh) has committed “terrible atrocities” against the Yezidi and other ethnic and religious communities, the UN envoy for Iraq said today, calling for the perpetrators to be fully and properly held to account.

Compiled by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the report details heart-wrenching testimony of Yezidi survivors of ISIL atrocities in Iraq since the attack on Sinjar in August 2014, including accounts of systematic and widespread killings, sexual violence and sexual slavery, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, forced conversions and forced displacement, among other abuses of international human rights and humanitarian law.

The report contains accounts of those who were among the 308,315 mostly Yezidis who fled Sinjar District. An estimated 360,000 Yezidi remain displaced, with a serious lack of badly needed psychological care.

According to a press statement women interviewed by the UN spoke of being sold multiple times and having their young children and babies snatched from them. One woman told how she was sold to a 26-year-old Syrian ISIL member who raped her regularly for at least 15 days, threatening to kill her daughters if she did not submit.

Another woman was bought and sold to six successive men. She managed to rescue her seven-year-old daughter from the man who tried to abduct her, and tried to keep her safe by cutting off her hair and eyelashes, putting the child in a diaper and telling her to pretend to be mentally ill. However, in spite of this, an ISIL member tried to rape her daughter, driving the woman to attempt to kill her daughter and herself in despair. She eventually escaped with the help of a smuggler.

The report contains many accounts of men being separated from women, and of the mass killings of the captured men. In one instance, up to 600 men were reportedly killed in Tel Afar District. In other instances, members of the Yezidi community were forced to convert to Islam or be killed.

Special Representative and Head of UNAMI Ján Kubiš said the report also notes that approximately 3,500 women, girls and some men, predominantly from the Yezidi community but also a number of other ethnic and religious communities, remain in ISIL captivity.

“Two years after the fall of Ninewa, the Yezidi community continues to be targeted by ISIL. Thousands of men, women and children have been killed or are missing, or remain in captivity where they are subjected to unspeakable sexual and physical abuse,” Mr. Kubiš said, adding: “Faced with such evidence, it is of paramount importance that the perpetrators of these heinous acts are fully and properly held to account.”

For his part, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said the testimony recorded in the report must serve as a clarion call to all members of the international community that “no effort must be spared in ensuring accountability for these terrible crimes and to send a clear message that no one may perpetrate them with impunity.”

“I am profoundly concerned at the grave impact that the current conflict is having on civilians, particularly on people from Iraq’s ancient and diverse ethnic and religious communities. The experiences recounted by survivors and documented in this report reveal acts of inhumanity and cruelty on an unimaginable scale that constitute a serious and deliberate attack on the most fundamental human rights and are an affront to humanity as a whole,” High Commissioner Zeid said.

The report states that the violations and abuses committed by ISIL may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

“Every effort must be undertaken by the Government of Iraq and the international community, in strict compliance with applicable international humanitarian law and human rights law, to put an end to the human rights abuses being perpetrated by ISIL and to secure the safe release of these civilians,” the report states.

“Psycho-social, medical and other forms of support are urgently required, notably for the survivors of sexual violence and sexual slavery. Furthermore, everything feasible must be done to create safe, dignified conditions for the Yezidi, along with [internally displaced persons] from other communities, to return to their places of origin,” it adds.

Ninevah Nightmares: 25+ die
7 ISIS Turban toes up in airstrikes in Kokjli

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) announced that seven ISIS members were killed in an airstrike carried by the US-led coalition in northern Mosul.

Media official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Mosul Gayath al-Surji said, “International coalition aviation jets at noon today bombed two vehicles carrying seven ISIS members in Kokjli village near Hayy al-Karamain in northern Mosul, killing them in the spot.”

Surji added, “The aerial bombing also completely destroyed the two vehicles.”

18 ISIS troops die as Iraqi warbirds pound ISIS convoy near Qayyarah

(IraqiNews.com) Erbil – The spokesman for the 91st Brigade of the army Amin Shikhani announced on Thursday that 18 ISIS men were killed in international coalition shelling to the south of Mosul.

Shaikhani in a press statement said, “International coalition aviation jets targeted seven ISIS vehicles on the highway between Qayyarah and Hamam al-Alil.”

Shaikhani added “The operation resulted in the death of 18 ISIS fighters.”

A security source in Nineveh province reported earlier on Thursday that a convoy comprises of 30 ISIS tankers had been destroyed in an air strike near Qayyarah south of Mosul.

More on the Ninevah convoy attack from aranews.net

[ARA News] ERBIL – Warplanes of the US-led coalition on Thursday bombed a number of ISIS oil tankers in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province, local sources and activists reported.

The coalition’s air forces hit a convoy of oil tankers that belonged to the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in southern Nineveh.

“The airstrikes caused a complete damage to the tankers, followed by huge explosions,” head of Nineveh media center Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

At least 12 ISIS militants were killed in the operation.

The targeted convoy has reportedly included 25 oil tankers. They were all destroyed in the coalition strikes.

“This was another heavy blow to ISIS’s financial capacities, as the group largely relies on the returns of selling oil on the black market after smuggling such tankers to neighboring countries,” al-Zarari said.

ISIS Oil Revenues Reduced

The US-led coalition has carried out 303 air strikes against the Islamic State’s (ISIS) oil and gas facilities as part of Operation Tidal Wave II since 2014, and has cut down ISIS revenues to $15 million per month.

“Operation Tidal Wave II continues to reduce Daesh’s access to revenues from illicit oil and natural gas operations,” said the US-led coalition spokesman Colonel Christopher Garver.

“In our estimate, Daesh is [used to be] earning $300 million a month from illicit oil activities. That should have been approximately $30 million a month and we estimate that the reduction from Tidal Wave II operations cuts their revenues by a half to approximately $15 million a month,” he said.

The US-led coalition has carried out more than 303 airstrikes since September 2014, targeting ISIS oil and gas facilities.

Speaking to ARA News, Aymenn Jawad Al Tamimi, a research fellow at the Middle East Forum–a US think tank–said the airstrikes have a remarkable effect in the war on ISIS “because the group now controls fewer oil fields, and facilities have been damages and supply routes disrupted.”

“But there’s no alternative in the end to retaking [oil-rich] Deir ez-Zor. The reduction by half is possible, but in the end the bulk of the loss will come from recapture of Deir ez-Zor oil fields,” he said.

However, Al Tamimi said ISIS oil revenues never reached $300 million dollar per month. “At maximum revenues topped $40-50 million a month,” he said.

Despite the financial losses, the Islamic State is still trying to fight back, also against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Manbij that now control more than 50 per cent of the city on border with Turkey.

“Desperate counter-attacks near Manbij resulted in major ISIL [ISIS] losses. Coalition-partnered SDF now establishing firm foothold in the city,” US anti-ISIS envoy Brett McGurk said on Twitter on Thursday.

“We’ve seen Daesh [ISIS] fighters leaving these previously defended towns to attempt to reinforce Manbij. As the pressure increases against Daesh in Manbij, they are demonstrating more desperation to keep Daesh strategic crossroads open for access outside Syria,” Colonel Garver said.

Due to the setbacks on the ground, as a result of successes by the Iraqi army, and Kurdish forces in both Syria and Iraq, ISIS has carried out attacks on civilians in the Middle East and in the West to show their supporters that they still have the ability to strike against their enemies.

“They are the force that’s conducting attacks like we saw in Paris, like we saw in Brussels. They’re inspiring attacks like we saw in San Bernardino and we saw in Orlando. And this is a force that needs to be dealt with. These are people that they need to not only be defeated on the battlefield, but they’re ideology needs to be broken and defeated as well,” Colonel Garver added.

“We still have to break the caliphate. We still have to show that they are not worth following from the worst of humanity around the globe, but they would want to do that in our capitals anyway. They would want to do that in Western countries,” he concluded.

North Korean defector Thae Yong-ho: 'sick and tired of regime'
Kum Thae was a typical teenager. He went to a school in Acton, west London, used Facebook and WhatsApp, and enjoyed basketball. But after taking his A-levels (double maths, computer science) this summer something odd happened. He vanished.

“We tried his phone. It was blocked. He disappeared from Facebook and social media. We were very worried,” said his friend Louis Prior, 19.

The mystery was solved this week when it emerged that Kum’s father, Thae Yong-ho, a high-ranking diplomat and minister at the North Korean embassy in London, had defected. He had slipped out from the embassy’s suburban semi-detached house in Ealing, taking his family with him.

Trump Will Face a Huge Challenge with U.S. Intelligence If He Wins
The Washington Post's intelligence reporter Greg Miller reported on July 28 that a senior intelligence official told Miller privately that he would refuse to brief Trump because of concerns about Trump's alleged admiration of Russian president Putin and because "he's been so uninterested in the truth and so reckless with it when he sees it." Reuters ran a similar story on June 2, reporting that eight senior security officials said they had concerns about briefing Trump; Reuters did not indicate how many of the officials cited were intelligence officials or Obama appointees.

These calls to deny intelligence briefings to a presidential candidate are unprecedented, but they also reflect a serious problem within the U.S. intelligence community that awaits a possible Trump administration: the politicization of American intelligence by the Left.

I saw this constantly during my 19 years as a CIA analyst. CIA officers frequently tried to undermine CIA directors Casey and Gates because they disagreed with President Reagan's policy goal of defeating the Soviet Union. Several testified against Gates's nomination to be CIA director in 1991 by lodging false claims that he and Casey had politicized intelligence. Former senator Warren Rudman, a moderate Republican who headed President Clinton's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, described these attacks by CIA analysts as "an attempted assassination, an assassination of [Gates's] character . . . McCarthyism, pure and simple."
No briefing? No problem. Obviously you can't be fired, but your annual bonus is now ZERO! Have a nice day. Next briefer please.
Always okay to politicize briefings, actions and the whole agency. It just always has to favor the Democrats...

Libyan forces hit by 9 separate ISIS bombing attacks in Sirte
SIRTE, Libya: Daesh in Libya has carried out nine suicide bombings in one day in a failed bid to hold a central district of Sirte, pro-government forces said Wednesday.

The attacks on Tuesday in the coastal city left nine pro-government fighters dead and 82 wounded, said Reda Issa, a spokesman for forces allied with the unity government.

They took place as forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA), backed by US airstrikes, advanced on Sirte’s central District Two as part of a three-month offensive to oust the terrorists from the city.

A Daesh fighter blew up his vehicle close to a group of soldiers and journalists, wounding several, said an AFP photographer.

Five of the bombers attacked using cars, one on a motorbike and three on foot, said the pro-GNA forces, which published several photos of the bombers’ corpses.

Daesh seized Sirte, 450 km east of Tripoli, in June 2015 and turned it into its North African stronghold, but they now hold just a few pockets of the city.

Pro-GNA forces launched an offensive in mid-May to retake the city, which they entered on June 9, facing heavy resistance as they moved toward the center.

The US Africa Command said Wednesday that it had carried out nine more air strikes on Daesh targets in Sirte on Tuesday in support of the pro-GNA forces, bringing the total number to 57 since August 1.
Last week the pro-government fighters seized a conference center in the city used by Daesh as its command center.

More from Libya Herald
Islamic State suicide bombers in Sirte today killed 10 soldiers who were part of the Bunyan Marsous operation there. A further 65 were wounded according to Misrata Central Hospital where they and the dead were taken. The injuries vary between critical and relatively minor.

According to the Bunyan Marsous (BM) Operations Room, two cars driven by the suicide bombers exploded. The attack happened in west Sirte, near the Gharaibat Bridge.

Misrata TV also reported that BM forces succeeded in thwarting a third suicide bombing in the town. An IS supporter wearing a suicide belt was reportedly stopped by BM forces near the town’s District No. 1 and fled. He then blew himself up without causing any other damage, the channel said.

BM earlier said that it was closing in on the last remnants of IS in the town, seizing District Nos. 2 and 3 and part of No. 1.

Meanwhile, aid and supplies are moving into liberated areas of the town. A convoy of six trucks with humanitarian and medical relief aboard arrived yesterday from Misrata, according to Libyan news agency LANA.. The supplies, organised by the Red Crescent, included food packages for families who had remained in Sirte.

Turkish PM pledges fierce response to PKK attacks that killed at least 12, wounded 302
[Hurriyet] Turkish PM Binali Yildirim has pledged a fierce response to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has accelerated attacks on both security forces and civilians, killing at least 12 people and injuring hundreds of others in three separate attacks in less than 24 hours.

"Terror will not take over The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
," said Yildirim, who secured full support from the country’s main opposition party.

"This nation will never surrender to any terrorist organization," he said.

"The terrorist organization has lost its chain of command. It is staging suicide kabooms wherever it can," Yildirim said in the eastern province of Elazig, where he was accompanied by Interior Minister Efkan Ala, Defense Minister Fikri Isik, Health Minister Recep Akdag and Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar.

"Elazig won’t collapse with this attack. The terrorist organization won’t find the right to live anywhere. We have raised the alarm level," he added.

President Recep Tayyip Edogan also said in Ankara that "no one needed to be an oracle to see that FETÖ is behind the recent PKK attacks in terms of intelligence sharing and promotion," referring to the followers of Fethullah Gulen.

"This nation cannot be defeated. This nation cannot be demolished," said Erdogan.

Three officers were killed and 217 people, including 85 coppers and 60 civilians, were maimed in a PKK attack in Elazig early on Aug. 18. Some 72 of those maimed have been discharged from hospitals while 14 remained in a critical condition. Two of them are coppers.

Initial footage showed severe damage to the building. The blast also created a hole in the scene. A bomb-laden car coming from the west exploded while in transit in front of the building, CNN Turk has reported.

late on Aug. 17. PKK murderous Moslems attacked the April 2 Police Center and Lodgings in Ipekyolu with a bomb-laden car which they parked near the building before detonating it remotely. A sum of 73 people, 20 of whom are coppers, were also maimed in the kaboom.

Five soldiers and one village guard were killed and six soldiers were maimed on Aug. 18 in a PKK attack in the Hizan district of the eastern province of Bitlis, Dogan News Agency reported. PKK murderous Moslems detonated a hand-made explosive placed on a road near the Gayda village during the passing of a military vehicle at around 1 p.m, killing five soldiers and wounding five others.

Village guard Muslum Yaldiz was killed and one soldier was maimed during festivities with PKK murderous Moslems in the rural areas of Nazar village.

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) also sent a three-person delegation to Elazig.

"I make an open call to the government," said CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. "We are ready to give you whatever you expect from the government to bring an end to terror. I have given whatever you asked for until today. But we have just one expectation from the government: Please solve this terror issue."

"Turkey is rapidly being dragged into ambiguity," the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) said in a statement, calling for a return to talks between the state and the PKK.

"What we are going through every day makes us long for yesterday. We are deeply concerned and saddened by recent incidents happened today in Elazig, a few days ago in Van and Diyarbakir," it said.

"Today, the expansion of democratic political channels is an urgent need. We, as the Peoples’ Democratic Party, are determined to do our part to stop recent incidents before they create more social unrest. The resolution to the long-standing Kurdish question must not be delayed any longer," it said.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Petite woman equalizes hulking robber ... permanently
Not posted to gloat. The young woman is not gloating. There is nothing about which we would gloat. A young robber is dead. Taking a life is never easy. The perp made the decision to rob, and he decided that a petite woman would be an easy mark. She defended herself -- properly -- and I have no qualms at all about what she did. The only good news is that the young woman defended herself and is safe. But I bet she's going through a lot in her mind right now, and she's not wrong. Only an amoral person with no conscience whatsoever would "never feel bad" about having to kill someone.
GLENDALE, AZ. - Carolann Miracle is 4 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 85 pounds. She’s a petite woman who seems like an easy target, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“I was scared, at first. I thought, ‘Am I really getting robbed?’” Miracle told ABC15.

Miracle said she was leaving the Circle K near 59th Avenue and Camelback Road with her family early Monday morning when the suspect, Frank Taylor , tried to bum a cigarette. She told him that she didn’t have one, and then seconds later, Miracle said, she could feel the barrel of the gun against her skin.

“He put the gun up to my neck and said, ‘It’s loaded, don’t move,’” Miracle said. ”I think he thought, ‘She’s a little girl. Maybe she doesn’t know how to use her weapon.’”

Miracle said, “I dropped my soda, released my gun from my holster and cocked it. I shot him and ran in the opposite direction."
She must have a quick draw, and the perp must have been ... inattentive...
There were people in the parking lot and she didn’t know whether they were accomplices in the holdup. So, she ran home to call 911.

Miracle, who became emotional when she later returned to the gas station, said that she is struggling with what happened and will for some time.

“I feel bad, I didn’t mean to kill him. I feel bad for his mom. I feel bad because I just found out that he has a 1-week-old baby. I didn’t mean to do it, but I had to protect myself,” Miracle said.

The case has been handed over to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. They will determine whether Miracle will be charged, which is standard procedure in these types of cases.

Africa Subsaharan
Pirates chased away from British freighter by Nigerian warship
The Nigerian navy used its “superior firepower” to foil a pirate attack on a British-flagged freighter and rescue the crew in an encounter off the west African coast, a spokesman said.

Commodore Christian Ezekobe said the navy deployed a warship after receiving a distress call on Wednesday that pirates were about to hijack the MT Vectis Osprey 20 nautical miles off Bonny in southern Rivers state.

“NNS Nwamba engaged the attackers on approaching the vessel which made them abandon their mission due to superior firepower,” he said. “To this end naval special forces on board the warship embarked and rescued the crew who locked up themselves in a citadel in the merchant tanker.”

Ezekobe said both the crew and cargo of the vessel were safe while an investigation had been launched.

Ship hijackings have become more frequent in waters off Nigeria since President Muhammadu Buhari took office in Nigeria in 2015 and announced plans to wind down an amnesty to former militants in the delta region.

Previously payments were offered in exchange for an end to the violence, which included the kidnapping of oil workers and sabotage of pipelines that plagued the region in the 2000s.

A new militant group the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has been blamed for a wave of deadly attacks on pipelines since the beginning of the year. The NDA has said it wants more wealth for residents of the region in addition to self-determination and political autonomy.

On Thursday the Avengers, who have rejected a government peace offer, threatened to secede by pulling the oil region out of Nigeria.
You might ask the Biafrans how well that worked...

Arabia
Houthis hurting as casualties rise to 3,600+
[AlArabiya] Al Arabiya News Channel sources have confirmed the Houthi militias and forces loyal to ousted former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Yemen have incurred nearly 1,654 deaths and 2,000 injured over the past week.

The strikes by the Saudi-led coalition forces started on Wednesday and has strategically targeted Houthi military sites in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. The strikes have also targeted sites in Saleh-stronghold city of Sanhan and coup-held city of Saada.

The coalition warplanes also recently bombed Houthi fighters from Yemen seeking to infiltrate Saudi Arabia. On Tuesday, a rocket fired by Yemeni rebels killed seven civilians inside Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, the civil defense agency said.

It was the highest reported number of civilian casualties in the kingdom's south since a Saudi-led coalition intervened 17 months ago in Yemen.

Yemen doubles down. declares Soddy border Free Fire Zone
Yemeni army declared the area beyond the Yemeni border a 'pure military target' by the army and the popular committees.

Army spokesman Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman said the Yemeni soldiers and popular committees fighters have been watching movements of Saudi forces along the border with Yemen, stressing that the allied Yemeni forces will deal with such movements according to rules of engagement with hostile force.Yemeni Army spokesman Brigadier General Sharaf Ghaleb Luqman

Luqman was quoted by Saba news agency as saying that the Saudi regime has been targeting Saudi areas in Jizan, Assir and Najran because the residents of these regions oppose the war on Yemen.

The media policy adopted by the Saudi-led coalition has been exposed since the first day of the aggression, the army spokesman noted adding that this policy was based on fabrications and announcing elusive victories.

"Following the miserable failure of the aggression, it's normal that the Saudi-led coalition will resort to mean propaganda in a bid to tarnish the image of the army and committees heroes.

Nashville Sheriff To Force All New Hires Thru “Islam 101” Course, Taught by Muslims
[CreepingSharia] Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall says he wants jail guards to better understand the practices and beliefs of Muslim inmates. So he has accepted a request from local Muslim leaders to teach "Islam 101" classes for jail staff, and he plans to hire a part-time advocate as a go-between with inmates.

Does Hall want his staff to understand stonings, amputations, beheadings and other "practices and beliefs" of Muslims? Or the whitewashed version of sharia that Islamic supremacists will sell him for a nice price?

Hall’s moves follow a recent sit-down meeting with highly influential Islamic leaders. And they come at a time when the Muslim community is growing, along with their presence inside county jails.

"Let me be very blunt about it: We need a much better understanding in law enforcement, in this country, in this city, anywhere, to understand the various cultural issues," Hall said in opening the July 12 meeting. "We need help understanding what the sensitivities about various religious and other aspects are so we’re not stomping all over what is a very precious feeling."

Inconvenient: Giant Coral Reef That ‘Died' In 2003 Teeming With Life Again
From the "global warming and ocean acidification will kill everything, forever" and the "nature always finds a way" department comes this inconvenient truth.

Back From The Dead: Giant Coral Reef That ’Died’ In 2003 Teeming With Life Again

In 2003, researchers declared Coral Castles dead.

On the floor of a remote island lagoon halfway between Hawaii and Fiji, the giant reef site had been devastated by unusually warm water. Its remains looked like a pile of drab dinner plates tossed into the sea. Research dives in 2009 and 2012 had shown little improvement in the coral colonies.

Then in 2015, a team of marine biologists was stunned and overjoyed to find the giant coral reef once again teeming with life. But the rebound came with a big question: Could the enormous and presumably still fragile coral survive what would be the hottest year on record? This month, the Massachusetts-based research team finished a new exploration of the reefs in the secluded Phoenix Islands, a tiny Pacific archipelago, and were thrilled by what they saw. When they splashed out of an inflatable dinghy to examine Coral Castles closely, they were greeted with a vista of bright greens and purples -- unmistakable signs of life. ‐Karen Weintraub, The New York Times, 15 August 2016

Government
State Dept.: $400M to Iran was contingent on US prisoners' release
[New York Post] The State Department admitted Thursday that the US would not hand over $400 million in cash to Iran until it released four American hostages -- two weeks after President Obama insisted the payment was not a "ransom."
Unlike his recent news conference and admission, this photo depicts Kirby looking straight into the camera.
State Department spokesman John Kirby was asked at Thursday’s press briefing: "In basic English, you’re saying you wouldn’t give them $400 million in cash until the prisoners were released, correct?"

"That’s correct," Kirby replied.

In an Aug. 4 press conference, President Obama said the opposite.

"We do not pay ransom. We didn’t here, and we won’t in the future," the president told reporters, speaking of the Jan. 17 payment and hostage release.

Families "know we have a policy that we don’t pay ransom. And the notion that we would somehow start now, in this high-profile way, and announce it to the world, even as we’re looking in the faces of other hostage families whose loved ones are being held hostage, and saying to them ’We don’t pay ransom,’ defies logic," Obama added at the time.

He lectured the press for even raising the issue.

"It’s been interesting to watch this story surface. Some of you may recall, we announced these payments in January. Many months ago. There wasn’t a secret. We announced them to all of you. [Press secretary Josh Earnest] did a briefing on them. This wasn’t some nefarious deal," the president said. "It wasn’t a secret. We were completely open with everybody about it and it is interesting to me how suddenly this became a story again."
Bad enough that ransom was paid. Worse, however, the State Department and the President of the United States lied about it.
Even worse is that everyone knew it was a lie, and could prove it was a lie, and that State had to know that they'd be forced to backtrack. And worse than that, Champ is out golfing and doesn't care.

FBI hiding secret Clinton files
It appears Hillary Clinton is getting help from the inside... AGAIN.

Clinton's emails demanded by House Republicans, which are marked by the FBI as "Unclassified/For Official Use," are mysteriously being kept away in a secure room on Capitol Hill typically reserved for the nation's most closely guarded secrets, Congressional aides told The Associated Press. The staffers spoke on condition of anonymity because they had not been authorized to speak publicly about the security precautions.

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee says the FBI is improperly restricting access to unclassified materials from its closed investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.

In a letter sent Wednesday to the Senate’s security director, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley asked that unclassified portions of the FBI documents be provided to his staff.

"As I have expressed to the FBI in the past, it is inappropriate to unnecessarily mingle classified and unclassified information," Grassley wrote Wednesday to Senate Security Director Michael DiSilvestro. "Accordingly, as you have done on similar occasions in the past, please provide the Judiciary Committee with a copy of the unclassified FBI documents from the production."

Grassley said it was "regrettable that the FBI has imposed the burden of this task on your office by improperly comingling so much unclassified material with classified material."

The FBI on Tuesday provided Congress portions of its file from the agency's yearlong investigation into whether then-Secretary of State Clinton and her top aides mishandled classified information that flowed through a private email server located in the basement of her New York home. FBI Director James Comey said his agents found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing, but described Clinton's actions as "extremely careless."

Republicans point out that Clinton clearly lied to Congress about her handling of emails when she testified last October before a House panel investigating the deadly 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. The GOP is pressing the Justice Department to open a new investigation into whether Clinton committed perjury and sought the FBI documents.

Democrats are worried that Republicans are likely to leak portions of the FBI file which would reveal Clinton's wrongdoings and therefore do political damage to her campaign.

"These materials are nonpublic and contain classified and other sensitive material," FBI Acting Assistant Director Jason Herring wrote. "For that reason, these materials may not be further disseminated or disclosed, in part or in full, without obtaining the FBI's concurrence."

The FBI documents are being kept in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, known within the intelligence community as a SCIF.

Access to the guarded room is restricted to members of the oversight, judiciary and intelligence committees and their staffs. Those without sufficient security clearances can read only redacted versions of the files and are forbidden from making copies or taking notes.

Steven Aftergood, who directs the government secrecy project at the Federation of American Scientists, said the documents were provided to Congress as a matter of FBI discretion and the bureau is in a position to impose conditions on any further disclosures. He said if all the documents were unclassified, then it would be surprising -- though not prohibited -- for them to be stored in a SCIF.

"Since it includes both classified and unclassified material, it makes sense that the collection as a whole would be stored in a secure environment, such as a SCIF," he said. "The alternative would be to break up the materials into separate classified and unclassified parts and preserve them in separate locations, which might be awkward or inconvenient."
Set up a 'T-SCIF' (temporary SCIF) for the purpose of viewing and discussing. Guards, controlled access, inspections.... not that big a deal.
But what he's ignoring is the inconvenience imposed on Republicans requesting to access this unclassified information which they are lawfully entitled to.
The Rhino's in congress say 'they don't have the tickets (clearances)' for viewing, but the Russians and the entire rest of the world have easy access. Strange logic, that.
He said if members of Congress release some of the unclassified documents, that would not violate any law, but any such unauthorized disclosure would make it less likely that the FBI would voluntarily share information with Congress in the future.

#4  So to mix the unclass stuff with the classified in the same report deems all material at the higher classification. This really hurts her more than it helps. Even her unclassified materials are so classified, by proxy, that they too can not be released.

Prison inmates produced defective combat helmets for U.S. soldiers
Federal prison inmates used makeshift hatchets and a screw shoved through a piece of wood among other rudimentary tools to manufacture thousands of faulty Kevlar combat helmets designed to protect the lives of U.S. soldiers on the battlefield, according to a highly critical watchdog report that offered new details about the government boondoggle.

More than 126,000 helmets manufactured at a Texas prison under a government contract were recalled after inspectors found major defects, including serious ballistic failures, in 2010, according to a report issued Wednesday by the Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General. Even though the government and taxpayers lost $19 million on the defective helmets, ArmorSource, the company responsible for the helmets, was awarded more government contracts even as the Justice IG probe was being conducted.
I suggest that the prisoners, their supervisors, and the Armor Source people be required to wear the helmets. Each must suffer two whacks in the head with a baseball bat wielded by an E6 or above who has served in Iraq or Afghanistan. If they survive the two whacks, no charges will be pressed.

Yes, this is adapted from Casino.

#1  And there you have it folks - the circle jerk of cronyism, or collective oligarchy, in all its glory. It was not always thus, well intentioned folks might get a government issue item - well, issued - manufactured by well meaning folks.

It's an outrage that any military equipment is being produced in a prison, hotbeda of radicalism, Islamic and Domestic. You expect pride in a job well done?

Cui Bono?.

#2  Goes back to the 80s when the asshats in Beltway decided to make prison pay for itself. They gave the Bureau of Prisons priority in government contracts.

At the time the Army had a contract for its camouflage netting produced on a BIA indian reservations. The Army appealed but the cronies got their way and the prison system got the contract and the reservation got unemployment.

#3  Here's a potential win-win: cancel all prison contracts for everything but gravel; gives the prison an income stream and it is really, really hard to phuck up rock.

#4  You never worked at a Title 1 school USN?

I could put 2 kids, a chicken feather and an anvil in a room, check back in an hour an the anvil would be in 11 pieces.

#6  Forced labor to build military equipment is the essence of stupidity.

The Discovery Channel's Tank Overhaul -- The Panther had an interesting side commentary about parts sabotaged by Nazi forced laborers.

UN wags finger at warring parties in Yemen
United Nations Chief Ban Ki-moon repeated his call Wednesday for all sides in the conflict in Yemen to “immediately cease all hostilities,” following a devastating series of raids resulting in numerous civilian deaths and injuries.

In a statement Ban urged “all parties to the conflict to immediately cease all hostilities and for the Yemeni parties to return to direct talks facilitated by his special envoy for Yemen.”

He reminded all parties “of the utmost necessity to protect civilians and to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law.”

He denounced attacks, which appeared to come from Yemen, which have killed at least seven civilians when a workshop was hit Tuesday in Najran, Saudi Arabia.

That blow caused Saudi Arabia’s worst civilian death toll in the kingdom’s south since the Arab coalition intervened in Yemen in March 2015.

Ban expressed alarm at “the escalation of airstrikes and ground fighting in Yemen and along the Saudi Arabia-Yemen border” since the suspension in early August of UN-brokered peace talks in Kuwait.
