Trump says can't say if Putin is friend or foe
[Jpost] US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he could not say if Russian President Vladimir Putin is a friend or foe, but that he is a competitor.

Trump made the remark in answer to a question from reporters at the White House before leaving for Europe on a visit that includes a summit with Putin in Helsinki
"I'm not your friend, I'm the President of Russia!"

President Trump pardons Oregon cattle ranchers convicted of arson
[USA Today] President Donald Trump on Tuesday pardoned father-and-son cattle ranchers serving prison time for arson, in a case that helped inspire the armed occupation of a federal wildlife refuge in 2016.

Dwight Hammond, Jr., and his son, Steven Hammond, were convicted of starting two fires in 2001 and 2006 that damaged federal lands. But the White House said Tuesday that the evidence against them was "conflicting," and noted that the jury acquitted them on most of the charges.

The Hammonds were initially given sentences of three months to a year. But Trump blamed the Obama administration for filing an "overzealous appeal" because the judge's sentence was too lenient under federal sentencing guidelines. That appeal sent the Hammonds back to prison.

#2  Why is so much land west of the Mississippi owned by the federal government and not reverted to their states? You think the eastern states would have tolerated that much holding by the national government? Outside the original 13 states, all those were once under federal control.

#5  Well, the Army as most of those manning the forts were infantry. Note well though, that the Army did a good bit of fighting (losing and winning) in the old Northwest Territory up through the last family feud with the old Mother Country that ended in December 1814. Ohio, Michigan, Indiana kept most of the land, not Washington DC.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 07/10/2018 15:12 Comments || Top||

#6  The "federal land" in the old Northwest Territory was partly / mostly sold off, acre by acre, to those who wanted to pay for it. Some of the land was granted to the states, and some was kept by the feds, e.g. military bases. Land sales provided much federal income during those years. In later years some land all over the USA was given away through laws like the Homestead Act. I don't have all the statistics. Go to your local register of deeds & search their index for "U.S" as "grantor" if you want to see how much land in your county was sold by the feds direct to individuals or transferred through legal homesteading.
It was not an issue of the states simply getting ownership all the land compromising their territory, free of charge from the feds.
Much land in the arid west is useless for building homes on (no jobs or other nearby settlements). The 1930's Dust Bowl shows what happens when farming is done inappropriately. Much of that land has reverted to things like National Grasslands.

Attempt at unassisted human flight at Grand Canyon ends in tragic failure
[Mail] A 24-year-old man fell 500 feet to his death at the Grand Canyon National Park just days before he was due to begin his career as a nurse.

Andrey Privin, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, lost his footing after climbing over a railing to get a better view at the Mather Point lookout area on July 3.

Privin was supposed to start his job as a registered nurse at the Highland Park Hospital on Monday.

Some witnesses said they saw Privin throw his backpack to an intended landing spot before jumping a gap at the lookout area.
Safety railings, who needs them ?

Trump Selects Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court
[PJMedia] On Monday, President Donald Trump exercised "one of the most profound responsibilities of the president of the United States," choosing a Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

"The Supreme Court is entrusted with the safeguarding of the crown jewel of our republic, the Constitution of the United States," Trump said.

He praised Kavanaugh as an originalist, noting that he coaches basketball, serves meals to needed families, and tutors children at elementary schools.

Kavanaugh thanked the president, praising him as the most diligent in searching for excellent judges. "No president has ever consulted more widely or talked with more people from more backgrounds to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination. Mr. President, I am grateful to you and I am humbled by your faith in me," he declared. He thanked his mother for her example, calling her a "trailblazer."

He remembered hearing his mother's "closing arguments" at the "dinner table."

Kavanaugh added that he is "proud" that most of his clerks have been women. He also discussed his Roman Catholic faith, and spoke about going to women's basketball games.

He described his wife Ashley as "a great wife and an inspiring mom. I thank God every day for my family."

Kavanaugh admitted he would have a tough road ahead. "I will tell each senator that I revere the Constitution," he said. "I believe that an independent judiciary is the crown jewel in our republic."

Kavanaugh also pledged to "keep an open mind about every case."

Time enough for that when Ruth Bader Ginsburg throws in the towel partway through his second term. But the way to do is it is through a leak of some of the names he was “considering”, or to have someone notice that Senator Elizabeth Warren had been invited to a one-on-one consultation lunch.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Invaders Are Not Immigrants
[American Thinker] The Democratic Party, along with its shills in the mainstream media, has misleadingly blurred the lines between the definition of "immigrant" and "invader." An immigrant is an alien who has been granted the right to permanently reside in the United States by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. An "invader," as defined by Merriam Webster, is one who "trespasses, encroaches, and infringes upon another's property." The United States is our collective home and those who come here without seeking and gaining permission to enter our collective home are no different than an uninvited guest who enters our personal home to take up residence without permission.

As a legal immigrant brought to the United States from Germany at a young age by my parents, I and many legal immigrants who waited sometimes years to obtain the necessary visa for entry resent those who merely walk across our border and claim to be "immigrants." An immigrant is one who seeks and gains approval to enter, while invaders disrespect our laws put in place by "We the people."

Currently the Democratic Party, under the leadership of Tom Perez, a Marxist, and Keith Ellison, a Muslim Brotherhood operative, have been campaigning for open borders. They have resisted President Trump's border enforcement, and many others are now calling for the abolishment of ICE (Immigration Custom Enforcement). One only has to look at crime statistics committed by illegals to see a glimpse of what a borderless United States holds for us.

The Daily Wire reported that 92 percent of confirmed aliens in Federal Bureau of Prisons custody are illegals and that 97 percent of confirmed aliens in the U.S. Marshal Service custody are illegals. Furthermore, 21 percent of those convicted of non-immigration crimes were non-citizens and 2.5 times their share of the population. The Government Accountability Office reported in 2011 that there were 251,000 criminal aliens in federal, state, and local prisons. Those aliens represented nearly three million criminal offenses, which ranged from homicide and kidnappings to drugs, burglary, and larceny. These criminal offenses would not have occurred here had these criminals been prevented from gaining a foothold into our home and thousand of lives would not have been lost.

America Needs Leaders like Martha McSally in the Senate
[American Thinker] "Drain the Swamp" is the rallying cry of Americans who want leaders, not politicians. This was the case for many World War II veterans who chose to serve their nation in a different capacity. It is no different today with Congresswoman Martha McSally (R-AZ), a representative of those veterans who care more about this country than their own political ambitions.

McSally has an impeccable resume. As a colonel in the Air Force she was part of the team that helped plan and execute U.S. air operations over Afghanistan shortly after 9/11. In January 1995, she became the first woman in U.S. history to fly a combat aircraft into enemy territory, in order to help enforce the United Nations' "no-fly zone." In July 2004, McSally took command of the 354th Fighter Squadron, becoming the first woman in U.S. history to command a combat aviation unit. A requirement that American military women wear veils while stationed in Saudi Arabia led her to stand up for American principles with a lawsuit in early 2002. This eventually led Congress to pass a bill ending the practice. She is now serving her second term after first being elected to Congress (R-AZ 8th district) in 2014. American Thinker had the privilege of interviewing her as she makes a run for Arizona’s open Senate seat.

Less than 1% of the total population serves in the military today. Yet, many post-9/11 veterans are stepping up to the plate to serve in Congress. McSally believes, "Being an elected official is a continuation of my service. Those who served in the military understand that our culture is not to walk away from a problem, but to do something about it. A lot of veterans are responding to this ’call to duty.’ I am willing to work with those on the other side of the aisle, even the ones who I do not agree with. I think it is in a veteran’s DNA to be mission oriented, which means to see if there are any Venn Diagrams pieces that we can agree upon and work together."

Science & Technology
The feisty fog-catchers of Chile
[The Economist] IN THE school playground in Los Tomes a lone child, José Ossandón, plays with his emboque, a ball-and-cup game. The eight-year-old is the school’s only pupil. His teacher, Nilda Jimena Gallardo, herself a former pupil, says that enrolment has dropped from 65 when she started teaching 43 years ago. Drought has driven families away, she says. "Only the old remain."

Los Tomes is an agricultural co-operative, one of 178 in Chile’s Coquimbo region. Nineteen comuneros try to grow wheat and raise sheep and goats on 2,800 hectares (7,000 acres) of semi-arid scrubland. A decade-long drought has made that harder. Hilltop springs where the animals once drank have dried up. As herds shrank and yields fell, farmers’ children moved away to take jobs in cities or at copper mines.

Hope for Los Tomes comes in the form of three 60-square-metre (646-square-foot) nets stretched between poles on a ridge above the community. These atrapanieblas capture droplets from the fog that rolls in from the sea 4km (2.5 miles) away. They trickle down to a pipe, which channels the water to two troughs at the foot of the ridge, from which livestock drink. The banner-like nets can harvest 650 litres (140 gallons) of water a day. "We’re content: it’s produced the results we wanted," says José Ossandón, the child’s father and the president of the co-operative.

Chile has been investigating fog capture since the 1950s. The dense fog that arises from the Humboldt current, called the camanchaca, can be harvested with the help of a coastal mountain range and strong winds. Earlier attempts to turn the mist into usable water failed. In 1990 fog nets at Chungungo, a fishing village north of Los Tomes, captured 8,000 litres a day. Villagers argued about how to share responsibility for maintaining the atrapanieblas.

[MadGeniusClub] Back in the dark ages ‐ 1980’s in South Africa the BBC Radio News reported on a labor dispute/picket protest led by the ANC aligned organizers in a fishing town up the West Coast of the Cape. The picket line had been savagely broken up by the police with dogs (the BBC reporter of the time was a passionate promoter of the anti-apartheid cause, and as his media was not within the country could report whatever he liked without any form of censorship.)

...Now, as it happens I was ‐ quite inadvertently ‐ there, along with my pregnant wife. I wasn’t protesting, or with the police. I was just at the tail end of a long sampling trip, collecting shark vertebrae and gut contents ‐as well as measurements of said sharks ‐ at various fish processing plants up the west coast. I was a very broke research scientist, and paying dog-sitters or putting our two hounds (a sloppy bull-terrier x keeshond cross and a dim-witted but loveable Old English Sheepdog) in kennels was just an expense that couldn’t be met. So they traveled with us, sleeping in the back of the truck. They loved the trips. My wife used to record for me ‐ as it was a bloody, slimy, smelly dirty job, making writing difficult while you were doing it. Now, typically ‐ as we were taking nothing of value, fish processors were quite obliging about us sampling the catch ‐ as long as we didn’t get in the way. In this particular fishing town, that meant starting really early on the previous night’s landings, before work started. The track to the shark plant was a narrow alley next to and around the corner from the main only large employer in the town ‐ they dealt with pilchards and anchovies.

We got there in the dark and had worked hard for several hours, and, tired, smelly, bloody and laden with sample buckets of vertebrae sections, (for age and grown studies) were glad to be heading for a coffee and giving the dogs a run before heading home. The dogs of course knew the pattern and were hyper with ’walk-delight’, as always.

So: Barbara driving we headed around the corner and into the midst of a whole bunch of people. My dogs ‐ confined to the back canopy ‐ were barking. They were already excited for their walk and liked to tell the world... My wife, being herself, hooted and drove slowly towards the protestors ‐all we wanted was out of there... And, to be honest, we couldn’t actually turn around ‐ and the sea was behind us.

Now, whether the protestors got freaked the idea that cops were somehow behind them, or just the noise of the two dogs was enough ‐ people scattered in all directions running and screaming. We drove out, past the couple of local cops, having no idea what the hell we’d done, and wondering if we were in trouble.

A friend later told me the Cape Town Riot squad (we were about 2 hours away from the city) showed up about an hour and half after this, and were somewhat peeved at being called out for nothing.

Europe: Things Fall Apart
h/t Instapundit
[Powerline] German Chancellor Angela Merkel is hanging on by her fingernails in Germany right now, as the backlash against migrants reached a critical mass in recent weeks. The cabinet minister who confronted Merkel and forced immigration concessions, Horst Seehofer of the "conservative" CSU party based chiefly in Bavaria, has seen his own poll ratings collapse in the aftermath of the political crisis. But this is just as likely to be the result of his not having gone far enough with his attempts to get Merkel to reverse course on her disastrous immigration policy. The supposedly Trumpian "Alternative for Germany" party is now expected to rack up big gains in upcoming regional elections. Merkel’s chances for survival in office don’t look very good at the moment.

Meanwhile, what is happening in Britain right now? First, over the weekend David Davis, the cabinet minister in charge of the Brexit process, resigned over his disagreements with what he thought was a too-weak Brexit plan embraced by Prime Minister Theresa May, and this morning Boris Johnson, the foreign minister, has also resigned, calling May’s Brexit plan as "polishing a turd." (I knew there was a reason I like this guy.)

It appears there is a full-on cabinet crisis now under way in Britain, and May might not be long for office. Stay tuned: Merkel and May could well be turning up soon with a lot of time on their hands at Aspen Institute panels, telling us all about "what went wrong."

Feminists Clash with Transgenders at London Pride Parade
h/t Instapundit
We told you it would happen, and it finally has. Conservatives long predicted that feminism and transgenderism were ultimately incompatible, but for a long time it seemed like the LGBT movement might just hold them together. Well, on Saturday that movement burst open, as lesbians led the parade in attacking transgenderism.

"Transactivism Erases Lesbians!" read a banner that temporarily led the Pride in London march in the heart of Britain's capital.

Did Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders Save America?
h/t Instapundit
[AmericanThinker] The citizenry of a nation that has experienced unprecedented peace, prosperity and global or regional hegemony over four or more generations are often lulled to sleep believing there will never be an end to their good fortune. Inevitably these countries and empires have floundered and decayed as they gradually and unwittingly descended into societal, political and economic chaos invariably precipitated by their respective ruling classes. Over the past fifty years, the United States has been adrift on this same calamitous course. However, it appears that America may have been granted a reprieve through an event that could have been a long-term disaster potentially turning out to be its salvation. That event was the presidency of Barack Obama and the ensuing hubris of his fellow-travelers in the American Left.

‘A matter of life & death': 15,000 white South African farmers seek refuge in Russia, report says
[RT] A delegation of 30 South African farming families has arrived in Russia’s farmbelt Stavropol Region, Rossiya 1 TV reports. The group says it is facing violent attacks and death threats at home.

Up to 15,000 Boers, descendants of Dutch settlers in South Africa, are planning to move to Russia amid rising violence stemming from government plans to expropriate their land, according to the delegation.

"It’s a matter of life and death ‐ there are attacks on us. It’s got to the point where the politicians are stirring up a wave of violence," Adi Slebus told the media. "The climate here [Stavropol Region] is temperate, and this land is created by God for farming. All this is very attractive."

Francis Crowley's inconvenient infant located alive
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) ‐ A 5-month-old infant who miraculously survived more than nine hours being buried under a pile of sticks and debris in the woods of western Montana suffered only minor injuries despite wearing wet and soiled clothes in cold weather, authorities said.

The baby boy is otherwise in good condition, authorities said.

Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies were called about 8 p.m. Saturday about a man threatening people in the Lolo Hot Springs area of the Lolo National Forest. Deputies apprehended the man, who indicated that a baby was buried somewhere in the woods.

The sheriff’s office hastily put together a search crew of federal, state and local officials that combed the forest outside the hot springs for six hours before a deputy heard a baby’s cry at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

He found the baby face-down under the pile of sticks and debris, dressed only in a wet and soiled onesie in the 46-degree (8-degree Celsius) weather.

"He suffered some minor scrapes and bruising but overall is in good health," sheriff’s spokeswoman Brenda Bassett said in a statement Monday.

The baby was taken to a hospital. Custody of the child has been referred to the state Division of Child and Family Services. Spokesman Chuck Council declined to answer any questions about where the child will be placed or how the baby will be cared for, citing medical privacy.

Francis Crowley, 32, was being held on $50,000 bail on a charge of criminal endangerment. Additional charges will follow, the sheriff’s office said in a statement Sunday.

"For all of us at the sheriff’s office, this is what we call a miracle," the statement said. "For the officers who were present for this event, it’s especially hard knowing what this small baby endured in the last 24 hours."

Crowley is from Portland, Oregon, and was previously arrested in June in Missoula on a fugitive warrant from Oregon, the Missoulian reported. Crowley was released when Oregon officials decided not to extradite him, Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks said.

The nature of Crowley’s relationship to the baby was not immediately clear. There was no information on whether Crowley had an attorney.

Kidnapping on top of everything else?

Crowley was released when Oregon officials decided not to extradite him

Montana should bill — or sue — the state of Oregon and named officials for search, court, and incarceration costs incurred in relation to these events, plus whatever costs will be incurred to care for the baby until it is eighteen and search for his parent(s); had Oregon taken him back in a timely manner, none of this would have happened..

Border Patrol Agents Rescue Mother, Child Abandoned by Human Smuggler
[Breitbart] Border Patrol agents in the Laredo Sector rescued a Honduran woman and her young son after human smugglers abandoned them in the South Texas heat with little food and water. The mother and her eight-year-old had been traveling for three days after being smuggled into the U.S.

Agents assigned to the Laredo West Station began searching after officials received a 911 distress call on Friday about a woman being lost after being abandoned by human smugglers. The agents began their search and eventually found the missing migrants, according to Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials.

The agents provided emergency medical assistance to the mother and child. They are now in good health, officials stated.

The intense heat of the South Texas summer combined with the lack of adequate supplies of food and water put the woman and her eight-year-old in danger. In addition to the lack of supplies, the terrain, animals, snakes, and cactus make the travel even more dangerous. The terrain also makes navigation without proper equipment nearly impossible as everything looks the same when you get into the brush, Border Patrol agents told Breitbart Texas in past interviews.

'Nigeria is now the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian!' – 238 people slaughtered in Christian village…
[CBN via Right Scoop] A new wave of attacks by Fulani herdsmen against Christians is leading one international human rights advocate to call on the US Congress to appoint a special envoy to investigate.

"Nigeria is now the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian," explained attorney Emmanuel Ogebe.

"What we have is a genocide. They are trying to displace the Christians, they are trying to possess their land and they are trying to impose their religion on the so-called infidels and pagans who they consider Christians to be."

Two weeks ago, 238 people were killed in a village massacre in north central Nigeria. Six of Ogebe’s relatives were among the victims.

"From what we have been able to piece together, the husband and his pregnant wife, he tried to take her out of the house to safety and come back for the kids," recalled Ogebe. "But they ran into the herdsmen along the way and they shot him and his pregnant wife and they went into their home and they killed their four-year-old son and their six-year-old daughter who were asleep in their beds."

He said the Muslim attackers also killed two relatives who were visiting the family during summer break.

Ogebe said he was told that authorities would not allow the corpses of his relatives to be taken away for separate burial. Instead, they were buried in a mass grave with the other victims.

Mexico reportedly will create its own border force
[Wash Times] Mexico’s president-elect has complained about President Trump’s immigration policies, but he’s looking to adopt some them for his country, a top aide said.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is planning his own border force to stop illegal immigrants and drugs crossing into Mexico from Central America, Alfonso Durazo, his chief of public security, told Bloomberg.

Mr. Durazo said the border force would also patrol the U.S.-Mexico line, though he declined to give Bloomberg more details.

Mr. Durazo said they will try to work to improve conditions Central America to stem the flow of people fleeing those countries ‐ similar to pledges made by the Obama administration after the 2014 surge of illegal immigrants.

Those migrants have continued to flow north, with some of them stopping in Mexico whole others continue north to try to enter the U.S.

House Committee subpoenas Former FBI Attorney Who sent Anti-Trump Texts
[Daily Caller] Two congressional committees have subpoenaed a former FBI attorney who exchanged anti-Trump text messages to appear for a closed-door deposition Wednesday.

The House Judiciary and House Government & Oversight Committees issued the subpoena Monday to Lisa Page, the former mistress of FBI agent Peter Strzok.

Strzok, who oversaw the FBI’s Russia investigation when it first started, will testify in public before both committees on Thursday.

Page’s lawyer told CNN that Page has negotiated with the GOP-controlled committees to appear voluntarily.

"We asked the committee staff to explain the scope of the investigation and provide sufficient notice that would allow her to prepare, which are normal conditions for congressional committees, but these committees have not followed the normal process," Amy Jeffress told CNN.

Tunisia Pays Tribute to Security Forces Killed in Jihadist Attack
[AnNahar] Tunisia paid tribute on Monday to six members of its security forces killed the day before along the border with Algeria in the country's bloodiest jihadist attack in more than two years.

The attack comes as Tunisia prepares for what it hopes will be a surge in tourism after a spate of jihadist attacks in 2015 sent visitor numbers plunging.

After the ceremony at the national guard base close to the capital, hundreds of people watched as several of the dead were laid to rest.

A large procession led by members of the armed forces accompanied the body of guardsman Arbi Guizeni through the Tunis suburb of Douar Hicher.

The six national guard members were killed, and three others maimed, when their cars were attacked Sunday morning with an improvised bomb in the Ain Sultan area of the Jendouba border province.

The three maimed guards were transferred to a military hospital in Tunis and their condition was stable on Monday, said guard front man Colonel Houssemeddine Jebabli.

He said search operations launched Sunday were continuing but no arrests had been made.

Okba Ibn Nafaa,
...on occasion spelt Uqba bin Nafi Brigade, they’ve fought since 2012 with security forces in Tunisia's mountainous interior. In 2014 they joined forces with Ansar al Sharia to form Al Qaeda in Tunisia, although later they also supported ISIS and their big attacks were claimed by both. At that time the new organization was headed by Bejaia native and explosives expert Khaled Chaieb (aka Lokman Abou Sakhr). Throughout their existence they’ve encouraged people to go abroad for jihad. ....
a Tunisia-based division of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), late on Sunday grabbed credit for the attack and said it had killed nine soldiers, according to the SITE Intelligence Group that monitors jihadist activity online.

Okba Ibn Nafaa and the Tunisian branch of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, Jund al-Khilafa (Soldiers of the Caliphate), are active in the mountainous border region where the attack took place.

Israel puts Palestinian TV station on terror blacklist
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", says designation of al-Quds channel is itself 'terror'; Arab MKs condemn move as violating freedom of speech

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman officially designated the al-Quds television network a terrorist organization, his office said Monday, accusing the Leb-based outlet of being an arm of Hamas.

"According to up-to-date, reliable, cross-checked and diverse intelligence, the al-Quds station is a propaganda wing of Hamas, representing a central platform for distributing the terrorist organization’s messages," the defense minister’s office said in a statement.

The idea to declare the outlet a terrorist organization was proposed by the Shin Bet security service and the Defense Ministry’s department for fighting terrorist with economic tools, Liberman’s office said.

Coinciding with the move, news hounds and cameramen from the channel based in Israel, as well as employees of a local production company that works with the network, were questioned by police on Monday and told to cease operations, according to the Haaretz daily.

The Israeli military in recent years has shuttered a number of television and radio stations operating in the West Bank over suspected incitement and ties to terror groups.

Israeli leaders have spoken out repeatedly about the threat of incitement in Paleostinian media, while Paleostinian television programs are cited in Shin Bet interrogations of snuffies as sources of inspiration.

by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) yesterday, was shifted to Adiala Jail amid tight security on Monday morning.

According to jail officials, Safdar underwent a medical examination in the penitentiary and was later shifted to a barrack specified for ’B’ category prisoners.

On Friday, Safdar had reportedly gone underground after being convicted along with his father-in-law Nawaz and spouse Maryam Nawaz in the Avenfield corruption reference.

He, however, reemerged a day later in Rawalpindi and spearheaded a rally of PML-N workers before finally being arrested by NAB officials amid resistance from his supporters.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the police today registered two cases against Captain Safdar and his supporters.

Both the first information reports filed against Safdar and some local PML-N leaders, state that the Government of Punjab

3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

has imposed a ban on taking out rallies, yet Safdar and his supporters not only did that but also blocked roads and impeded the flow of traffic.

Angry Mugabe Fires Bodyguards
[All Africa] Former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe

Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
has fired six security details provided by the state because he suspected they were spying on him on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government, it has been revealed.

According to insiders, Mugabe took the drastic action last week soon after his return from Singapore where he spent over two weeks seeking medical treatment.

The long-time Zanu PF leader, who was ousted through a coup in November last year, is said to be now considering recruiting his own security details.

During Mugabe's absence, the government allegedly withdrew three of the former president's security details without his knowledge.

The 94-year-old politician was reportedly infuriated by the move and ordered the remaining six aides to stop reporting for duty.

"Three aides were withdrawn on June 23," a source said. "No explanation was given to Mugabe, who was told by the other aides that the three had been withdrawn by government."

The dumped workers included a receptionist and members of the kitchen staff.

Mugabe is said to have complained that the security details spent most of their time at State House where they would have been summoned by their bosses.

"Mugabe has dumped the workers. He found three withdrawn when he was away and he dismissed the remaining six," the source said.

The sources said Mugabe was not happy that his workers were regularly quizzed about visitors to his Harare mansion.

Britain
British PM May appoints Jeremy Hunt new foreign minister
[PRESSTV] British Prime Minister Theresa May has appointed Jeremy Hunt as foreign minister after Boris Johnson resigned in protest at the government’s plans for a close trading relationship with the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
after Brexit next year.

The British prime minister's office said in statement on Monday that the Queen has been pleased to approve the new appointment.

Johnson stepped down on Monday over May's plan for Brexit, which include remaining closely aligned to EU rules on manufactured goods.

Hunt is the long-serving health minister and a close ally of May. He had served as health minister for more than 5-1/2 years, the longest term of any in the history of the state-funded National Health Service. Matt Hancock replaced Hunt as Health Secretary.

Hunt’s appointment could alter the Brexit balance of May’s top ministerial team. Hunt backed "Remain" during the 2016 referendum campaign.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
in October 2017 Hunt said he had changed his mind on the issue, and slammed disappointing "arrogance" in the EU’s behavior during Brexit negotiations.

Last month, Hunt criticized Airbus and other such businesses who had issued warnings about moving jobs because of Brexit. He added that they should instead be getting behind May in her push for a good deal on leaving the EU.

Israel to give harsh response to Syria if deploys troops in border zone: Tel Aviv
[PRESSTV] The Israeli military has threatened to give a "harsh response" to any attempt made by the Syrian government troops and their allied fighters, who are continuously advancing towards bully boy-held areas in Southern Syria, to deploy in occupied Golan Heights frontier zone which is subjected to a decades-old UN-monitored armistice between the neighboring foes.

"For our part we will sanctify the 1974 disengagement agreement, and there too we will insist that every last letter be abided by, and any violation will meet a harsh response from" the Israeli regime, said Avigdor Lieberman, the Israeli mister for military affairs, in a speech he delivered to his parliamentary faction on Monday.

His comments echoed those of Gilad Erdan, the regime’s public security minister, who said on Thursday that Israel could strike Syrian government troops if they were stationed in the demilitarized zone.

In 1967, the Israeli regime waged a full-scale war against Arab territories, including those of Syria, occupied a large swathe of Syria’s Golan Heights and annexed it four years later, a move never recognized by the international community.

In 1973, another war, known as the Arab-Israeli War or the Yom Kippur War, broke out between the Israeli regime and a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria. A year later, a United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
-brokered ceasefire came into force, according to which the Israeli regime and the Syrian government agreed to separate their troops, and create a buffer zone patrolled by the UN Disengagement and Observer Force (UNDOF).

Lieberman’s remarks came some 20 days after the Syrian forces launched a major military campaign to recapture the bully boy-held areas in southern Syria near the Jordanian border and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, including Dara’a province, together with the neighboring provinces of Quneitra and Suwaida.

Forces of Libya's warlord Haftar arrest fighters who lost limbs battling for them in Benghazi
[Libya Observer] The general command of the self-proclaimed Libyan army in east of the country jugged
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
Sunday several injured fighters who used to be on the frontline of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. ’s forces in Benghazi and across the region.

The detention of the injured fighters came as they along with their fellow fighters, who are part of military formations under the command of Haftar, took to the Rajma town where the general command is located, wishing to have their complaints heard by whom they cherish as their top leader.

The inured fighters, some losing limbs, wanted to complain about the inaction of "Dignity Operation" regarding their healthcare and their general conditions, yet they took a beating and some were detained at the military police prison in al-Marij.

Other injured fighters also went on a protest against the self-styled army in front of the Benghazi Municipal Council, holding slogans denouncing the mistreatment they are receiving by the authorities in there regarding their medical treatment.

They also called for the release of the amputated fighters whom Haftar's forces arrested, urging for an end of financial corruption inside the general command, requesting that the military governor of the eastern region Abdelrazik al-Nathori should end "corruption in the general command."

Earlier this month, several injured fighters from the eastern forces led by warlord Haftar closed airport road in eastern Benghazi demanding real medical treatment and healthcare.

On Twitter, a loyalist to Haftar, Mahmoud al-Misrati, revealed two days ago that there is a huge financial manipulation and corruption done by the Presidential Council's member Fathi al-Mijibri regarding the medical treatment of Dignity Operation fighters in Tunisia.

The launch took place at 03:56 UTC from the LC43/94 launch complex at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center using a Long March-2C/SMA launch vehicle.

Onboard were the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-1) and the PakTES-1A satellite.

Operated by Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the PRSS-1 was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and is based on the CAST-2000 bus.

With a launch mass of 1,200 kg – the satellite will be used for land and resources surveying, monitoring of natural disasters, agriculture research, urban construction and providing remote sensing information for the Belt and Road region. Operational lifetime is 7 years at an altitude of 640 km.

The satellite is equipped with an imaging system with a ground resolution of 1 meter (pan-chromatic) and 4 meter resolution in multi-spectral mode observation.

This is China’s first optical remote sensing satellite sold to Pakistan and the 17th satellite developed by the CAST for an overseas buyer. The SUPARCO and the China Great Wall Industry Cooperation (CGWIC) signed an agreement for the development and launch of the PRSS-1 in 2016.

The CAST-2000 is a compact satellite platform characterized by its high performance, expandability and flexibility. It is fitted with an S-band TT&C sub-system, X-band data transmission sub-system and 3-axis attitude stabilization, and is able to offer highly precise control, large-range sway maneuver, flexible orbit maneuver, highly integrated housekeeping and highly efficient power supply.

Bus mass is 200 kg to 400 kg with a payload mass capacity of 300 kg to 600 kg. It has a 3-axis stabilization and a sway maneuver capability.

The platform can be used for Earth observation, technology demonstration, scientific exploration, Earth environmental exploration, meteorological research and application, communications and navigation.

The Pakistan Technology Evaluation Satellite (or PakTES-1A) was developed by SUPARCO, with its payload being developed by the Space Advisory Company (South Africa). The satellite had a launch mass of 285 kg and will be used for remote sensing observations. The satellite will be operational on a 610 km sun-synchronous orbit.

The Chang Zheng 2C (Long March 2C) is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) launch vehicle derived from DF-5 ICBM.

'Employers say young Saudi men and women are lazy and are not interested in working'
[Business Insider] Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman may have portrayed himself as a moderniser rolling back the country's stultifying social restrictions ‐ but he is struggling to turn the country's financial fortunes around, with the economy suffering a crisis of confidence.

Hit hard by the oil-price collapse, the kingdom is now experiencing a plunge in foreign investment and high levels of capital outflow as its de facto leader, MBS as he is commonly known, attempts to consolidate power and steer a new economic course.

The uncertainty caused by his ambitious, some would say unrealistic, plans to modernise the economy has been further stoked by Saudi Arabia's apparent struggle to fill private sector jobs vacated by a growing exodus of expats. As of April, more than 800,000 had left the country since late 2016, alarming domestic companies concerned that the foreigners cannot be easily replaced.

SC bars three bank chiefs from leaving Pakistan
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered placing of names on the Exit Control List (ECL) of presidents and chief executive officers of three banks allegedly involved in Rs35 billion suspicious transactions used in money laundering.

The names of the bankers would be placed on the ECL by the interior ministry so that they might not flee the country until the investigations were complete, the court ordered.

North Korea rejects US call for unilateral disarmament
[DAWN] The grinding of the peace processor between the United States and North Korea was in crisis on Sunday after Pyongyang angrily rejected Washington’s "gangster-like" demand for rapid nuclear disarmament, despite two days of intense talks.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Tokyo to brief his Japanese and South Korean counterparts on the talks, which he called positive and declined to comment on Pyongyang’s statement rejecting his efforts and appealing to US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
to revive the grinding of the peace processor.

In a tweet, Pompeo said he had held a "constructive meeting" with his Japanese counterpart and discussed "maintaining maximum pressure" on North Korea.

He is due to meet Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as well as South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha later on Sunday.

Speaking privately, US officials suggested the harshly-worded North Korean statement was a negotiating tactic. But after two days of theatrical amity in Pyongyang, it appeared to mark a return to the North’s traditional hardline position.

The North’s foreign ministry took exception to Pompeo’s effort to secure concrete commitments to back leader Kim Pudge Jong-un

’s promise, made at a summit last month with US President Donald Trump, to work towards the "denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula".

And it did so in stark terms, according to a statement relayed by the KCNA state news agency.

"The US is fatally mistaken if it went to the extent of regarding that the DPRK would be compelled to accept, out of its patience, demands reflecting its gangster-like mindset," the statement said, referring to North Korea by its official initials.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel shuts down Kerem Shalom crossing
[Ynet] PM Netanyahu declares closure of Kerem Shalom as incendiary kites and balloons continue coming from Gazoo into Israel, scorching thousands of acres of Israeli farmland and woodland; the crossing is Gazoo's main commercial channel.

Israel said on Monday it was closing the Gazoo Strip's main commercial crossing and limiting the Paleostinian coastal enclave's fishing zone in a crackdown targeting the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror organization responsible for border protests now in their fourth month.

"We will crack down immediately on the Hamas regime in the Gazoo Strip. In a significant move, we will today shut down the Kerem Shalom (border) crossing," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a Likud faction meeting.

An IDF statement said Kerem Shalom would remain open for the transfer of specially approved humanitarian goods. It also said Gazoo's fishing zone would revert to 11 km (6 miles) after it was temporarily expanded to 17 km (9 miles).

The IDF statement, and separate remarks by Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, linked the new measures to fires from incendiary kites and helium balloons that have been flown over the border since the protests began on March 30, consuming swathes of Israeli farmland.

Israel says it has lost 7,000 acres of forests and farmland to the kite or balloon-set fires.

Organizers say the Gazoo border demonstrations are expressions of popular frustration that aim to press demands such as for Paleostinians' right to lands lost to Israel in the 1948 War of Independence and for an Israeli-Egyptian blockade on Gazoo to ease.

"We do not intend to continue absorbing and continuing with this situation," Lieberman said in separate comments to his own Yisrael Beytenu party.

Israel, which last fought a Gazoo war with Hamas in 2014, does not seek a new military flare-up, he said, "but the way Hamas is conducting itself‐it is simply liable to spiral out of control, and it is liable to pay the whole price, a much, much heavier price than in the 2014 Operation Protective Edge".

Israel briefly shut Kerem Shalom in May after dozens of Paleostinian torched some of the terminal's facilities on the Gazoo side of the border.

On July 5, a US special envoy to the Middle East, Jason Greenblatt, tweeted a picture of repair work at Kerem Shalom and accused Hamas in the "deplorable attack" on the terminal.

The administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has been watching Gazoo closely as it seeks to improve humanitarian conditions while sidelining Hamas, which is blacklisted as a terrorist group in the West.

Blacks doomed without whites; Bob anti-white stance ‘dangerous’, says Zanu PF MP
[NEWZIMBABWE] OUTGOING Zanu PF MP for Mpopoma-Pelandaba, Joseph Tshuma has made astounding claims Zim-bob-weans were doomed without the involvement of whites in their affairs.
A bit of diversity ain't gonna hurt 'em. It can't make things worse, anyway.
Tshuma, who is also party central committee member, was speaking at a political parties discussion forum in Bulawayo Saturday.

The event was hosted by the Zim-bob-we Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and the Bulawayo Media Centre.

Relations between the country and the West took a knock at the turn of the century when then President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
seized productive land which was in the hands of white Zim-bob-weans of European descent for redistribution to black locals.

Mugabe went on to introduce laws which compelled foreign businesses in Zim-bob-we to surrender at least 51 percent equity to blacks.

He followed his policies with repeated public rants against whites on alleged attempts to recolonise his country through financial support to his opponents as well as attempts to prescribe solutions to the country’s myriad problems.

Mugabe once stunned the world during an international summit attended by world leaders when he confronted then British Prime Minister Tony Blair and telling him to "keep your England and I will keep my Zim-bob-we".

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible...
his anti-white stance Saturday invited strong rebuke from one of his former allies, Tshuma who described it as "dangerous".

"We are coming from the era of Robert Mugabe. An era which closed us out from the rest of the world," Tshuma said.

"We began to leave in a vacuum. That was the most dangerous thing that was ever experienced by this country other than the bombings during the liberation struggle."

The Zanu PF politician said no other country was capable of developing without the involvement of whites.

"We made a mistake as a party through our (former) president when we said’ Blair keep your England and we keep our Zim-bob-we’.

"Yes, we kept our Zim-bob-we but what kind of Zim-bob-we did we keep? One thing that I have been made to understand and agree strongly whether painful or not, we cannot do away with that person called umkhiwa (white).

"When you do that, it is at your own peril. You need the white man to be there somewhere."

Incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa has moved to try and mend the country’s relations with the West through an engagement process that has seen Western business delegations visit the country to explore opportunities.

Chamisa Denies Grace VP Pact, Scorns Zanu-PF for Tormenting Mugabe
[All Africa] MDC Alliance presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa has rubbished continued State media claims he has promised former First Lady Grace Mugabe a Vice President post in exchange for her support in his bid to form the country's next government.

The State-owned Sunday Mail ran a story claiming the Presidential hopeful had "jumped into bed" with former President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
's wife.

Grace is said to be the brains behind the National Patriotic Front (NPF), a political opposition formed by disgruntled G40 politicians who were elbowed out of the ruling party when President Emmersn Mnangagwa took over the country following Mugabe's shock ouster November last year.

Addressing thousands of party supporters at campaign rally at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Sunday, Chamisa accused Zanu PF and the State-controlled media of misleading the public ahead of this year's elections July 30.

"I have not run out of options that I would resort to appointing Grace Mugabe as my vice president. Don't listen to the Sunday Mail.

"The Herald and Sunday Mail now have an editorial policy to misinform the people," Chamisa said.

The opposition leader said he found it strange that after working with Mugabe for 56 years, Mnangagwa and Zanu PF now found everything so wrong about anyone cutting deals with the former first family.

"As the MDC Alliance, we respect Mugabe's legacy but he is now history and like everyone, we are also happy that he has retired," Chamisa said, adding, "Why is Zanu PF tormenting him? I have never met him since he retired but I have heard from sources that he said Chamisa had a clear agenda and he would vote for me. If Mugabe wants to vote for me, he is welcome.

Arabia
Institutionalizing ‘fatwas’ and controlling them
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Fundamentalist groups have often had a field day in interpreting and adapting religious texts to suit their own purposes, review them outside their temporal and objective meanings and employ them in inapplicable contexts ‐ be they events, subjects and eras ‐ as well as use them as weapons against others.

Exploiting religious texts to issue fatwas has been essential for Islamist movements. The liquidation of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, the attempted murder of novelist Naguib Mahfouz, the massacres committed by the Armed Islamic Group in Algeria, as well as the suicide operations carried out by al-Qaeda and ISIS are all based on fatwas used by terrorists.

This approach of arbitrarily issuing fatwas seeks to find a textual reference that justifies partisan action. It contradicts the foundations of ’ijtihad,’ the origins of jurisprudential deductive reasoning among Moslem scholars and the concept of the modern state and its civism. This state is based on the principle of institutionalizing work and organizing it according to laws imposed on everyone and that are the state’s supreme reference.

As such, many countries are now working on controlling the sway of ’fatwas’ and trying to institutionalize them, so that violent groups and those that lack religious competency are not able to exploit them.

Avoiding exploitation of fatwas
Last June, the UAE Council of Ministers ratified the formation of the Emirates Fatwa Council under the chairmanship of Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah along with a number of experts that include women.

In addition to his religious expertise, Bin Bayyah is known for his strong conscience regarding the importance of the development of Fiqh, and a deep understanding that change in time and place directly impacts judgments. In addition, he is far from extremism and believes in a more tolerant and open-minded religious discourse. He is also the president of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Moslem Societies which focuses on overcoming sectarian divisions and mitigating sectarian tensions.

Before this council was formed, the Moslem Council of Elders, chaired by al-Azhar Sheikh Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb was established. All these institutions aim to transfer Fiqh and religious discourse that was in accordance with the circumstances of earlier times to a level suited for the transition of Arab societies into modern civil states.

Rescuing Islam from the hands of Lions of Islam is not an easy task. As such, it necessitates extensive political and diplomatic work.

The UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed visited the Vatican and met with Pope Francis where they emphasized the importance of dialogue between religions and the promotion of the values of tolerance and coexistence among peoples. This comes within the UAE’s work to restore the status of an Islam that is open to others, a humanistic Islam that does not distrust those with different doctrines but seeks to create common space for different religions and communities, to undermine the threat of conflict and wars in the world.

In the past decades, the Arab Gulf has been a harmonious place for co-existence among its various components, while ensuring its durability, thus preventing the exploitation of fatwas and their use for creating civil strife and accusing the society of infidelity and immorality. It is a responsibility that necessitates constant action and joint civil and government efforts.

India's Supreme Court upholds death sentences of 2012 Delhi gang rape convicts
[DAWN] India's Supreme Court on Monday upheld death sentences for three men over the infamous gang rape and murder of a woman in New Delhi in 2012 that sparked national protests and soul-searching.

The victim, a physiotherapy student, was raped and left for dead by a gang of five men and a teenager on a bus in New Delhi in December 2012.

"The review petition of all the three convicts has been rejected," A.P. Singh, a lawyer for the defendants, told news hounds.

The 23-year-old woman, on course to be the first professional in the family, was coming home from the cinema with a male friend.

The six gang raped and tortured her with an iron bar as the bus drove loops through the Indian capital. Singh was dumped on the streets 45 minutes later with horrific internal injuries, and died 13 days later in a Singapore hospital.

The brutality of the attack, and her determination to survive long enough to identify her attackers to police, triggered angry demonstrations by thousands of people in Delhi and nationwide.

Led by their elite 4th Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army scored another big advance in southwest Syria this week, seizing several areas around the quiet provincial capital.

Among the several areas captured by the Syrian Arab Army on Monday were a number of border points near the quiet provincial capital of Daraa and the large hilltop of Tal Shehab.

To make matters worse for the rebels, the Syrian Arab Army also managed to completely isolate the bandidos turbans in the quiet provincial capital, leaving them no way of reaching their forces in the western countryside of Daraa.

The Syrian Army has been working to isolate the quiet provincial capital for days; they were finally successful on Monday, when the rebel defenses collapsed.

With the quiet provincial capital isolated, the Syrian Army will now turn their attention to the southern districts of Daraa city that are jointly controlled by the Free Syrian Army

jihadist group, due to fears of a government attack, a monitor said Monday.

The IS-held pocket in Daraa province’s western countryside is not included in a ceasefire deal agreed last week between rebels and the regime’s ally, Moscow.

That agreement put an end to more than two weeks of heavy bombing of rebel-controlled areas, but the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Monday that those living under an IS affiliate feared that they were the next target.

"Around 4,000 people including hundreds of women and kiddies fled areas controlled by Jaish Khaled bin Walid in western parts of Daraa, towards the border with the occupied Golan," the Britannia-based monitor said.

The affiliate holds just under seven percent of Daraa province, according to Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

The regime’s military advance and the handover of towns through the ceasefire deal has brought government forces to areas adjacent to the IS-controlled zone, Abdel Rahman told AFP, but no operation had begun.

Operations underway in Kabul’s Surobi after last week’s attack by militants
[Khaama Press] The Afghan armed forces have launched an operation in Surobi district of Kabul after a coordinated attack by the holy warriors on a security post last week.

The 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan Military in the East said the operations, Qahri Silab Number Three, are jointly being conducted to improve the security of Lata Band area ahead of the parliamentary and district councils elections.

A statement by Silab Corps stated that the operations are jointly being conducted by the Afghan army, Afghan police Special Forces, Border Police and Afghan Local Police, and the Afghan Intelligence operatives.

The statement further added that a full coordination is in place with the 111th Army Division of the Afghan Military while operations are being conducted.

According to Silab, several villages in the area have been fully cleared from the presence of the holy warriors during the operations so far.

This comes as the Afghan armed forces suffered casualties in an attack by the Talibs on a security post in Surobi district last week. Security sources in Kabul confirmed that the incident took place late on Tuesday night in the vicinity of Surobi district. The sources further added at least six soldiers bit the dust and at least four others were maimed in the attack.

jihadists continue to conduct hit-and-run attacks against rival jihadi groups in north and northwest Syria as the terror organization loses ground to the Syrian Army and Kurdish militia in eastern Syria.

Up to 10 murderous Moslems from the Nusra-linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
group were killed as ISIS jihadists stormed their position in Ikarda area of west Aleppo countryside.

The assailants used silencers to shoot dead the two guards outside the post before infiltrating inside and slaughtering the rest of the squad.

The slain murderous Moslems belong to Jaish al-Nakhba; an elite unit formed from the best and most war-experienced fighters of HTS.

Soon after, the Islamic State grabbed credit for the daring attack; confirming that all its ’soldiers’ have returned safely to their base.

The Nusra-affiliated group has recently launched a major crackdown of ISIS sleeper cells in Idlib province; killing and arresting dozens.

Nearly 30 Shot, Four Fatally, over Weekend in Gun-Controlled Chicago
[Breitbart] Four people were killed and another 24 wounded by gunfire in gun-controlled Chicago over the weekend.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that three of the four fatalities occurred on Sunday.

The first fatality of the day occurred at 12:30 a.m. when someone pulled out a gun following an argument and opened fire. Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Carter was shot and killed.

Another fatality occurred earlier Sunday, around 3:30 a.m. In that incident a 32-year-old male was in a car with another 33-year-old when a car pulled up beside them and someone began shooting. The 32-year-old was struck in the head and neck and later died. The 33-year-old was stuck too, but is hospitalized "in good condition."

The last fatality of the day happened around 12:15 p.m. in an Austin neighborhood Sunday afternoon, when someone opened fire on two individuals on the sidewalk. One of the individuals, a 23-year-old male, was shot multiple times in the chest and killed. The second individual, a 19-year-old male, was shot but is hospitalized in stable condition.

On May 29, 2018, Breitbart News reported that 36 were shot in gun-controlled Chicago over the Memorial Day Weekend. Seven of the shooting victims died.

#1  They need a law making it illegal to shoot someone with an illegal gun. And while they're at it, they should make a law that criminals have to obey the law. That's really the crux of the problem, isn't it?

#4  Perhaps Chicago's strict gun control prevents their criminals from getting much range time, and thus keeps the fatality rate per shooting down.

#6  They have very strict gun laws, but they don’t enforce them, at least on the criminal class. Thus, they have no gun control for criminals.

The Chicago machine has an arrangement with the gangs to tolerate a level of criminality. In return, the gangs turn out the vote.

[DAWN] Federal law and information minister Ali Zafar has said the government will implement accountability court’s orders in letter and spirit and arrest ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif

He was speaking at "Meet the Press" programme at the Lahore Press Club here on Sunday Mr Zafar said the (caretaker) government had no mandate to interfere in the state institutions’ working or criticise their decisions, he said, adding that anybody having reservations against any court judgment should file an appeal.

"The law enforcement agencies will arrest Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on airport, if they did not get bail before landing in Pakistain," Mr Zafar told journalists.

Southeast Asia
Target the educated: Genocide textbook in Myanmar
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] There has been some resistance to labelling the attacks against the Rohingya in Myanmar as genocide.

Yes, some approximately 1 million Rohingya population in the north-western Rakhine state had been pushed over the border by a concerted attack by the Myanmar armed forces, but the death-toll was rather smaller than we expect in a typical genocide: just over 10,000 or so. For this reason, more circumspect observers have preferred the term “ethnic cleansing” to describe the events.

But death-toll is not the only relevant factor here. A genocide, as defined under international law, is not merely when a large group of people is killed, but also when an ethnic or religious identity is systematically attacked with a view to destroying it.

That is what makes the Rohingya situation unambiguously a genocide: their Burmese attackers deny the very existence of the Rohingya identity as a people indigenous to the region of north-west Myanmar, and claim that they are but illegitimate Bangladeshi immigrants.

And in fact, it is not just the attackers that do this: even Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, the country’s de facto leader, refers to them as “Bengali Muslims”.

But the Myanmar authorities have not limited themselves to merely denying the Rohingya their identity in the public political discourse. Evidence is emerging that during the “clearing operations”, the Myanmar army was deliberately and systematically targeting the educated and the community leaders among the Rohingya, village elders, teachers, religious leaders, and simply killing them.

In other words, not only do the Burmese deny the existence of the Rohingya, but any Rohingya who could articulate a defence of the identity of the group and could pass on the shared history and identity to the next generations were to be killed first.

Al-Shabaab Launches Deadly Assaults in Somali Capital
[All Africa] More than 15 people have been killed and more than two dozen others were maimed in two assaults Saturday on the compound of Somalia's interior and security ministries in capital city Mogadishu, according to witnesses.

The first attack began when button men set off huge kabooms outside the main gate of the interior ministry building before three forces of Evil stormed it. Smoke was seen rising above the scene.

Witnesses said the security forces launched a counterterror operation and engaged in an hour-long battle with the forces of Evil before ending the siege and killing all the three armed attackers.

Witnesses said government workers were among those killed in the first attack. "I have seen with my eyes at least 10 dead bodies lying inside the compound" a female witness told VOA.

Speaking to news hounds, the Somali Information Minister Dahir Mohamud Geelle said the forces of Evil carried out today's attacks to kill and maim civilians.

"They killed and maimed a number of people who were inside the compound, but the security forces engaged with the forces of Evil and killed all the terrorist," Geelle said.

The minister declined to say how many people were killed in the attacks. An official who asked not to be named, though, said the corpse count could rise as authorities sort through the building, the exterior compound and at a police building across from the interior and security ministries.

Dozens of people trapped in the building during the battle were rescued during the operation, while others escaped by leaping from the windows.

Abdinasir Said Muse, the deputy minister of security, was among those rescued from the compound.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia Should Admit It Uses Mercenaries
[Bloomberg] The Kremlin has been unable to conceal its use of mercenaries for its military interventions because the nationalist fringe ‐ which supplies many of the soldiers for hire ‐ openly discusses their role. That and other considerations make it likely that Russia will eventually admit it’s using private troops.

On Thursday, Yevgeny Shabayev, a far-left nationalist activist who heads a "Cossack" group in Moscow, demanded that private military company fighters who take part in operations in Syria, the Central African Republic, Sudan, Yemen and Libya be officially recognized as veterans. At the moment, the Russian government won’t even admit the existence of the companies.

The statement, co-signed by two other nationalist figures, Leonid Ivashov, a retired general, and Vladimir Petrov, a retired colonel, claimed that "the heads of private military companies (Patriot, Wagner and others) receive state awards personally from the Russian president." Yet even though the companies receive profitable business concessions with the Kremlin’s help in the countries where they are deployed, their fighters get no help from the government if they’re wounded in combat. Instead, the statement claimed, police and domestic counterintelligence services keep an eye on them, and the families of the dead fighters are pressured into silence.
