Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian Authority now uses half of all foreign aid to reward terror
Your tax dollars at work: The Palestinian Authority is now using half of its foreign aid to reward terrorism.
guess they have too much aid
The new PA budget boosts support to terrorists in prison by 13 percent and aid for the families of those killed "in the struggle against Zion" 4 percent, reports the Institute for Contemporary Affairs.

The total, $344 million, equals 49.6 percent of all foreign aid to the PA. In other words, cash from Uncle Sam, Europe and even Israel is subsidizing "welfare for terrorists."The PA sends a salary to each Palestinian imprisoned for an attack on Israelis, hitting over $3,000 a month after 30 years. Other stipends go to families of "martyrs" killed in the act. That's $344 million for 2017 that's not going to build roads or hospitals.

Knowing that you or your family will be taken care of is a clear incentive to kill. That's why President Trump is threatening to end US aid if the PA doesn't quit it.
End it. NAOW
The PA budget is a clear "no" to Trump's demand. Ball's in your court, Mr. President.

Spengler: Trump's 'America First' vs. McCain's 'America Last'
[PJMedia] Not the supposed protectionist Donald Trump, but the "free trade" wing of the Republican Party has taken the United States into a trade war that it can only lose. New sanctions against Russia passed by the House and Senate last week force Europe into a de facto alliance with Russia against the United States, and by extension with China as well.

It is the dumbest and most self-destructive act of economic self-harm since the United States de-linked the dollar from gold on August 15, 1971, and it will have devastating consequences. The charade in the House and Senate may embarrass Trump, but it also poses a threat to European energy supplies as well as an extraterritorial intrusion into European governance. Berlin, Paris and Rome will conspire with Moscow to circumvent the sanctions while attacking the United States at the World Trade Organization and other international fora.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), and their counterparts in the House of Representatives allowed their dudgeon
...such a wonderful word!
against a sometimes provocative president to overwhelm their sense of self-preservation. The sanctions will hurt Russia, but not nearly as much as they will hurt the United States over the long term.

The White House envisioned sanctions as a bargaining chip, to be used to persuade Moscow to behave in the Ukraine and to limit the ambitions of its Iranian ally of convenience. In their present form, however, the president will have no authority to remove sanctions imposed by Congress. That turns a feint into a threat. Wars have been started over less.

...Supposedly it was Trump who ignored the exigencies of international relations in favor of domestic political theater. Yet it is the Establishment wing of the Republican Party and its Democratic allies who combined to embarrass the president, without a moment’s consideration of the consequences of their actions. Among Washington’s elite, Trump Derangement Syndrome has nothing to do with ideology. It is about jobs and patronage. This is not hypocrisy. It is chutzpah.
L'Etat c'est moi
Or nous, in this case.
Trump humiliated the Democrats and the Establishment rump of the Republican Party last November. The losers now face the prospect of permanent exile from political life. Writing in the Times Literary Supplement July 25, historian Edward Luttwak predicted a Trump dynasty lasting sixteen years, in which Ivanka Trump Kushner would succeed her father. "No wonder that leading Democrats and non-Trumpers continue to act hysterically even eight months after the election. President Trump’s plan threatens to exclude them all from office until long past their retirement age," Luttwak wrote. The hopes of high office of the defeated Establishment can be realized only by stifling the Trump administration in its cradle.

...The notion that Russian machinations explain Trump’s electoral victory is fanciful, although Russia’s intelligence services no doubt sought targets of opportunity in the American electoral scramble. McCain’s outrage over the violation of America’s political virginity, though, rings rather hollow.

Some of his friends, for example National Endowment for Democracy President Carl Gershman, publicly advocate regime change in Moscow, a topic that has been a matter of on-and-off public debate in Washington for years. A 2016 Defense Intelligence Agency document reported that Russia believes that the United States favors regime change. The U.S. supported the 2014 Maidan coup in Ukraine, which threatened Russia’s access to its Crimean warm-water port. America’s capacity to influence political events in and around Russia is vastly greater than Russia’s [to affect USA]

...After the fall of Communism, the dominant strain of American thinking held that the march of liberal democracy was unstoppable, and that it would transform the Muslim world as well as Moscow.

...No-one who had first-hand experience with Russia’s brief experience with democracy was surprised at Vladimir Putin’s subsequent popularity. The oligarchs continued to steal, but in a measured and organized fashion that allows ordinary life to proceed without catastrophic disruption. Putin rules Russia by means I sometimes find abhorrent, but his is a land where people don't talk of Ivan the Reasonable.

An ideological residue of the utopian attitudes of the 1990s colors the Republican Establishment’s attitude towards Trump, but it does not really inform them. This is not about the U.S. elections, or Putin's nastiness, or freedom and democracy. It's about privilege and the pecking order in the Washington swamp. McCain and Schumer want to destroy Trump because a successful Trump administration would destroy them, and destroy the reputation of an entire generation of diplomats, intelligence officers, academics and military officers who achieved rank by promoting the export of democracy, nation building, counterinsurgency, and so forth.

Peak Oil: What Ever Happened to Hubbert's Peak?
h/t Instapundit
[Reason] Crude oil production in the U.S. will reach an average of 9.9 million barrels a day in 2018, the Energy Information Administration projects in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook report. This would surpass the previous record of 9.6 million barrels per day, set in 1970.

#1  "Peak oil" is a conceit and an edifice designed to:

1) Gin up fake demand for other types of energy production to hurt an industry that tends to donate to Republicans and conservatives.

2) Scare people into support for a "carbon exchange" that leads to more financial instruments from which money can be skimmed by the financial services industry, which is firmly Democratic in their leanings these days.

Always keep in mind that despite what conventional wisdom might be, the Democrats always, ALWAYS have superior accountants than the Republicans do.

#2  ...When the Dems take Congress back - and sadly, I think it's going to be next year at the rate things are going - watch for a full-court press to throttle back anything even resembling energy exploration. Can't lose the narrative, ya know.

#5  A brief history of American oil production would note that our government first warned that we needed to wean ourselves from ground based hydrocarbons because the were certain to run out a full 10 years before the 1st oil well was even drilled, or the midst of the Mexican War. Move on to the 1880's and one of the largest stock transactions, one of such magnitude that it took nearly 2 years to complete involved the number 3 man in Standard Oil selling out completely. His reasoning? the most learned scientists of his day had warned of the narrowly finite resources of oil and that in their opinion he should get while the getting was still good.

Not enough? In 1897 or perhaps '98 the preeminent geologist in the country announced to a conference of prominent businessmen that he could say with total assurance that there would be 'no commercially viable discoveries of hyrdrocarbons west of the Mississippi in North America'. In 1900 a group of concerned scientists ran an editorial about the dangerous and irresponsible trend of drilling into salt domes which they went on to say could only result in the maiming and death of innocent and hard working crews and the ruin of good equipment. The next year Spindletop came in from a salt dome.

1923 the US government issues an urgent cry to use less oil, at the rate of driving and manufacture the current supply would not last beyond 1940. Then there was the renowned nitwit Hubbert in the 1950's and a continuing line of Luddites who know as much about oil production as they do the end of the world.

#9  The peak is real - it is a finite resource - but rising price and improved technology have pushed the peak further out into the future for many decades. IMO we should be taking advantage of that time extension to develop alternatives, probably a combination of nuclear, solar and energy storage technologies. But government should not 'pick inners' or define the solution, just define the goal and get out of the way.

McCain embodies what is wrong with DC
h/t Instapundit
[DonSurber] Two weeks ago, John McCain underwent minor eye surgery. Remember? That is what the media said it was.

Then it was brain surgery to remove a tumor.

Then it was McCain rising from his death bed to fly to Washington to salvage the Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.

...Vote them out?

We did that with Donald Trump.

He isn't our last chance. He is theirs. They either shape up under President Trump, or they may really see trouble next time.

McCain has a formidable political machine and he is a determined and ruthless campaigner.

McCain is also working (and has a lot of pull) with the AZ GOP(e). Since Governor Ducey and rest of the Party wanted the Medicaid bucks to keep flowing, McCain accommodated them.

Europe
France's Only De-Radicalization Center Closes Its Doors
[AnNahar] La Belle France's first jihadist de-radicalization center is set to close after less than a year, the government said on Friday.

The center in Pontourny, western La Belle France, which opened in September 2016, was aimed at convincing radicalized 18 to 30-year-olds to turn their back on extremism.

But Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the experiment "has not been conclusive."

"The experiment of this center, which operates on a voluntary basis, has shown its limitations. The government has therefore decided to end the experiment," the minister added.

The center can accommodate 25 people, but has never had more than nine residents, none of whom have completed the de-radicalization program. The center has been empty since February.

Collomb said the government would now look at ways of developing alternative de-radicalization programs.

The center in Pontourny had been criticized by local residents alarmed that those at the center could come and go freely in the town.

A Senate report published on July 12 was heavily critical of La Belle France's de-radicalization strategy and called for the center to be closed.

La Belle France has been a consistent target for jihadists since 2015, with more than 230 people killed in attacks.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia arrests 7 for 'preparing' fresh Saint Petersburg attacks
[AlAhram] Russia's FSB security agency said Friday it had detained seven nationals from Central Asia who were "preparing terrorist attacks" in Saint Petersburg, which suffered a metro bombing in April.

Those held were suspected of planning to hit "the railway system and major public gathering places" in Russia's second city, the FSB said in a statement.

Russia has stepped up security since a suicide kaboom in the Saint Petersburg subway killed 15 and injured dozens on April 3. The alleged perpetrator, Akbarjon Djalilov, was a 22-year-old Russian citizen who was born in ex-Soviet Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. The bombing was claimed by a little-known group, the Imam Shamil Battalion, which experts say is linked to al-Qaeda.

group have repeatedly threatened to attack Russia over its intervention in Syria on the side of leader Bashir al-Assad. Citizens of Central Asia have been prominent among imported muscle who headed to Syria and Iraq to fight for jihadist groups.

Russia hosts large populations of mainly migrant workers from ex-Communist Central Asia and they face frequent harassment and discrimination in the country.

The Russian security services regularly announce that they have thwarted plans for attacks. The prosecutor's office said Friday that twelve attacks have been foiled on Russian soil since the beginning of the year, state news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The Grand Turk
Israel and Turkey declare cease-fire in twitter war
[Ynet] In recent days, foreign ministry spokesmen in Jerusalem and Ankara have exchanged particularly harsh tweets following Erdogan's verbal attack against Israel; as both sides understand the explosive potential of these exchanges, they decide to make peace and erase them.
Not peace so much as a hudna, no doubt.
In recent days, Israel and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
have been waging a tit-for-tat twitter war following the verbal attack by Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
over the metal-detector crisis on the Temple Mount, which intensified the diplomatic rift and could have led to the return of ambassadors to their respective countries for consultations.

Following urgent messages between Ankara and Jerusalem, the hostile tweets were suddenly erased from the Twitter accounts of the two foreign ministries.

The ceasefire came after frantic talks between bigwigs of the two foreign ministries, who saw how the hard-won reconciliation between the countries collapses before their eyes.

Senior officials in the two foreign ministries who understood the potential of the crisis hastened to calm the situation and agreed to a cease-fire--starting with Twitter. It is not clear whether this cease-fire will last beyond Twitter and whether Erdogan will continue his attacks on Israel in the coming days.

In Istanbul, a large demonstration initiated by the IHH organization,
...whose full name translates as Humanitarian Relief Foundation, is the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey, famous for the several increasingly unsuccessful Gaza Flotillas they organized. It was created by Hamas as a tool to funnel international funds to the Gaza terror group, and also has long-standing links to Al Qaeda and ISIS, for which they were caught running guns into Syria a few years ago. IHH is a proud member of the Saudi-based umbrella organization Union of Good (Ittilaf al-Kheir), a Treasury-listed terror entity...
entitled "Free Jerusalem" is scheduled for Sunday. The organizers of the demonstration say that a million participants are expected at the protest.

The tweets from the Israeli Foreign Ministry caused the Turks a fair amount of damage. All the Israeli representatives in the world retweeted them and they have gained great popularity and exposure in Arab nations, most of which are not fond of Erdogan.
...the real reason why the Turks decided it was time to stop, one suspects.

Two Palestinian lads killed attacking soldiers in Gaza and West Bank, but Temple Mount peaceful
[IsraelTimes] Health officials in Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-ruled enclave say 16-year-old was shot by Israeli soldiers

A Paleostinian teenager was reportedly killed during festivities between protesters and IDF soldiers along the Gazoo border fence on Friday. The Israeli military said violent festivities broke out in several areas near the security fence as soldiers tried to prevent damage to the structure. The army said soldiers opened fire on a number of protesters leading the disturbances and was looking into the reported death.

The Health Ministry in Gazoo, ruled by the Paleostinian terror group Hamas, said Abdulrahman Abu Hmeisa, 16, was killed in the festivities east of the al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gazoo Strip.

Earlier on Friday, a Paleostinian man who tried to stab Israeli soldiers at the Gush Etzion Junction was rubbed out, the Israeli military said. The Paleostinian arrived at the scene armed with a knife and ran toward IDF soldiers," the army said in a statement. "Forces fired shots at the assailant. No injuries to IDF forces were reported."

The assailant was identified by Paleostinian media as Abdullah Takaatka, 24, from Bethlehem.

Paleostinian rioting was reported on Friday in several locations in the West Bank, including in nearby Bethlehem and Hebron.

Prayers in and around the Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem’s Old City, however, ended peacefully.

On Friday, extra police and border guard officers were deployed to Jerusalem hotspots, and the military beefed up its presence in the West Bank, a week after heavy festivities in the capital and West Bank left five Paleostinians dead and saw a Paleostinian terrorist stab to death three Israelis at their Shabbat meal in the West Bank settlement of Halamish.
The view from the Arab world on one of the day's events:
Palestinian killed after alleged stabbing attempt
[Al Jazeera] A Paleostinian has been rubbed out after allegedly attempting to stab Israeli soldiers north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli army reported the incident on Friday, but added that none of its soldiers were maimed.

The Israeli army published a picture of the man's identity card. It showed that the alleged attacker was 24- year-old Abdullah Taqatqa from Bethlehem.

Paleostinian witnesses told local media that "Israeli forces shot at him while he was around 20 metres away from them" and that Taqatqa "didn't have any type of knife with him or any kind of weapon".

The incident occurred at the Gush Etzion junction near a large bloc of Israeli settlements south of Bethlehem.

It comes amid soaring tensions between Israeli authorities and Paleostinians over discriminatory restrictions in place at al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.

[IsraelTimes] New Jersey men Anthony Graziano and Aakash Dalal incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
for 35 years for attacks in 2011 and 2012 on synagogues, rabbi’s home

Two New Jersey men convicted in the Molotov cocktailing of North Jersey synagogues in 2011 and 2012 were each sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Anthony Graziano and Aakash Dalal
...who half a decade ago were merely an Indian-American college boy and his high school buddy with some nasty habits...
were charged on a 30-count indictment in 2013 with arson and bias-related incidents that occurred from December 2011 to January 2012 in the Bergen County towns of Paramus, Rutherford, Maywood and Hackensack, according to NorthJersey.com, which reported their sentencing Friday.

Aakash Dalal of Lodi was convicted last November for vandalizing and Molotov cocktailing synagogues and a rabbi’s home in 2012. He was convicted by a Bergen County court on 16 other counts, including conspiracy to commit arson, attempted arson, bias intimidation, possession of a weapon and possession of a destructive device.

Dalal, a former student at Rutgers University, was incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
in March 2012. Dalal has been called the criminal mastermind behind the attacks and did not actually participate in them.

Graziano, his former high school classmate, also was found guilty of terrorism and 19 other counts in May 2016 for the attacks.

The two, both in their 20s, were sentenced together because they worked as a partnership, Brian Sinclair, an assistant Bergen County prosecutor, told NorthJersey.com.

"They saw the world with the same set of eyes. They saw Jewish people not as people but as subhuman and like reptiles," Sinclair said. "They were partners in hate, intimidation and crime."

In one attack, Molotov cocktails thrown at Congregation Beth El in Rutherford set fire to a bedroom in the synagogue residence where the rabbi’s family lived. The rabbi, Nosson Schuman, was injured. He lives in the residence with his wife, five children and his parents, who were sleeping at the time.

At two other synagogues, Graziano spray-painted anti-Semitic epithets, including swastikas and "Jews Did 9/11." Graziano allegedly was scared off an attack by an increased police presence.

The men also were charged with the January 2012 Molotov cocktailing of Temple K’hal Adath Jeshurun in Paramus and the attempted arson four days later of the Jewish Community Center of Paramus. The bias intimidation offenses related to Temple Beth Israel in Maywood and Temple Beth El in Hackensack.

Nigeria: Angry Mob Kills Nigerian Policeman for Allegedly Causing Death of Woman, Two Children
[All Africa] A mob on Thursday attacked and killed a policeman over the death of a woman and two children on Owerri Road, Onitsha, Anambra.

Witnesses said that the incident occurred at 3.30p.m. when the police officer attempted to forcibly stop an articulated vehicle loaded with sand along the road.

According to the witnesses, the driver lost control causing the fatal accident.

"A tipper driver who was carrying sharp sand tried to meander his way past the coppers at the checkpoint but in the attempt to escape ran into the woman and children.

"I wouldn't know exactly why the tipper driver was stopped but immediately the accident happened, the coppers around the area made effort to leave the scene but were attacked by the mob," a witness said.

The witness said that the victims were standing by the roadside to board a vehicle to their destination when they met their untimely death.

Another witness said that the mob spontaneously chased the coppers and beat up two of them, while the others escaped with their guns.

#5  "carrying sharp sand"? WTF?

Sharp Sand is a real thing. It is uneroded or ground sand and has sharp edges. It is preferred for building, gardening and other commercial purposes. The other type that we are more familiar with are bench sand, also known as "play ground sand" commonly found in sand dunes and beaches and is eroded and thus rounded.

#8  What have you heard it referred to as?

Around here, it's apparently called a bunch of different names depending on how "pooh pooh" you wanna be.(Check your local big box store.) But basically, break down to "builder's sand", "garden sand" and "playground or sandbox sand" and so on.
I asked a friend in the concrete business what they use and called it, also mentioned "sharp sand". He told me they just call it "cement sand" but he knew what I meant. He also said most people just call it "sand", apparently they are not aware of different types of sands. The only ones who seems to care are those who build playgrounds.

There, I've learned more about sands than I really wanted to...

LNA says last Benghazi militants all wearing suicide vests
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army (LNA) claimed today that the surviving bandidos gunnies in Benghazi’s Sidi Akribesh area are wearing boom jackets.

A Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
front man said that the bandidos gunnies had now been confined to a single building which contained a butchers, a shoe store and a coffee shop.

"Most of the terrorist elements trapped in the area" said the front man, "are wearing boom belts for fear of being caught alive because of the lack of space between us and them".

The LNA’s is continuing to struggle to defeat the last remaining bandidos gunnies 22 days after armed forces commander-in-chief Khalifa Hafter announced final victory

Meanwhile the explosives that the bandidos gunnies left behind them as they retreated through Suq al-Hout and Sabri are still claiming victims. The latest was 33 year old Egyptian Shaaban Mohammed Ferghali who is reported to have stood on a landmine today in Sabri. He was taken to Jalaa hospital where his condition was this evening described as stable.

Russian airpower annihilates ISIS command base and fuel station in Homs, Deir Ezzor
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Aerospace Forces (RuAF) have carried out two raids against strategic military infrastructures belonging to the ISIS terrorist group.

The Arclight airstrikes were carried out either today or yesterday and involved the targeting of an ISIS command base in eastern Homs Governorate (first raid shown) and of a fuel station belonging to the terrorist group in the countryside of Deir Ezzor Governorate (second raid shown).

With major pro-government offensives ongoing in both aforementioned Syrian provinces, the RuAF is playing out its usual role by attacking strategic assets of ISIS via deep raids with the objective of disrupting the jihadist faction’s front-line operations, particularly in regards to command and logistical capabilities.

Yavuz Atalay, a news hound for the newspaper AKSAM, told The Daily Caller Thursday that he made up the quote.

In a private Twitter exchange with The Daily Caller, Atalay said he spoke with Kushner for less than two minutes.

"He did not say that," Atalay wrote of the quote in question. "I asked him, ’Do you think, Erdogan is making Turkey great again, like Trump?’ and he only said, ’Yeah, I think so.’"

A selfie with Kushner and the news hound accompanies the article.

A White House official told the Daily Caller that the journalist "approached Jared for a selfie but is not quoted accurately. It’s made up."

Atalay has a history of exaggerating the Trump administration’s view of Erdogan and the Ottoman Turkish government, according to The Daily Caller.

has cut the ears of 23 of its elements over charges of "cowardice" and leaving the fighting fronts, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.

A local source told Alsumaria that a judge of the krazed killer group’s so-called sharia court issued a decision to cut the ears of 23 IS elements who fled the battles west of Nineveh governorate, noting that the punished elements were local residents.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added that the group executed the judgment in a court in the town of Tal Afar (55km west of Nineveh). The group cut the upper part of the elements’ ears before taking them to prison.

Tal Afar, held by IS since 2014, has become the group’s most outstanding haven in Nineveh after Death Eaters lost their largest bastion, djinn-infested Mosul

, to Iraqi forces earlier this month.

Since Iraqi government forces launched offensives to retake areas held by IS in 2014, the group has reportedly imposed various punishments on members whom they believed were delinquent on the battlefield.

Earlier this month, the Iraqi government declared victory over IS in Mosul, ending nearly nine months of battles, and said recently that Tal Afar would be the next target.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
House Dem IT Guys In Security Probe Secretly Took $100K In Iraqi Money
[DAILYCALLER] Rogue congressional staffers took $100,000 from an Iraqi politician while they had administrator-level access to the House of Representatives’ computer network, according to court documents examined by The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group.

The money was a loan from Dr. Ali al-Attar, an Iraqi political figure, and was funneled through a company with "impossible"-to-decipher financial transactions that the congressional information technology (IT) staffers controlled.

The trio also worked for dozens of other House Democrats, including members of the intelligence, foreign affairs and homeland security committees. Those positions likely gave them access to congressional emails and other sensitive documents.

The brothers, whose access to House IT networks has been terminated, are under criminal investigation by the U.S. Capitol Police.

’s media arm has announced electing the group’s so-called "princess of the women" in Tal Afar, a local source said on Thursday.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said, "the group’s media arm announced over the past few hours in Tal Afar, west of djinn-infested Mosul

"The princess will have powers to run the group’s women cells," the source added.

The group, according to the source, "has been trying to attract women given that it’s hard for them to be discovered. In addition, they play pivotal roles in follow-up and information gathering."

The source described the step of having a princess within its structure as the first of its kind.

IS recruited hundreds of women, some whom became jacket wallahs who attacked security troops, especially during the battle in Mosul’s Old City.

Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that a date has been set for the town invasion, however, it will not be declared to maintain the secrecy of the intended operations.

During a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said a special plan has been drawn to invade Tal Afar.

Col. Ryan Dillon, spokesperson of the U.S.-led coalition against IS, was previously quoted as saying that Tal Afar will be the next target of operations after victory was declared in Mosul.

Zahra: Hizbullah Violated Lebanon's Sovereignty, Overstepped Army's Role

...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
has "violated Leb's illusory sovereignty" and "overstepped the army's role" when it decided to wage a battle against holy warriors in the outskirts of Arsal.

"A battle waged by Hizbullah to liberate the outskirts of (Arsal) from al-Nusra

Front holy warriors is a violation of Leb's illusory sovereignty," said Zahra in an interview to VDL (93.3) on Friday.

The MP considered that "the party has taken over a role that the Lebanese army could have taken.'

"Hizbullah has secured political gains in return for evacuating terror groups from a specific part in the Eastern Mountain Rage," said Zahra, adding that the Arsal battle is nothing but part of Hizbullah's battle inside Syria.

Hizbullah began the assault on fighters from al-Qaeda's former Syrian affiliate, previously known as the al-Nusra Front, in the border town of Arsal's last week.

On Thursday, a ceasefire deal has been reached that will see jihadist fighters withdraw from the Syria-Leb border.

Some Lebanese media outlets reported that part of the deal is that Hizbullah fighters held by jihadists would be freed.

Three intelligence and defense officials told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named there are an estimated 4,000 bandidos gunnies and 3,000 supporters in Iraq, who were employed by the group and received salaries. In Syria, there are up to another 7,000 IS bandidos gunnies and 5,000 supporters, they say.

The officials spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they are not authorised to speak to the media.

On July 10, Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the liberation of Mosul, after nine months of highly destructive warfare.

The IS swept into Mosul in summer 2014 when it conquered much of northern and western Iraq. The Lions of Islam declared a caliphate and governed according to a harsh and violent interpretation of Islamic law. The bandidos gunnies rounded up their opponents and killed them en masse, often documenting the massacres with video and photos.

Two days after the declaration of Mosul liberation, Army Lt Gen Stephen Townsend, commander of the United States led coalition in Iraq and Syria, cautioned that the battle in Iraq is not over. He said he believes Iraqi troops still need time to oust remaining IS fighters from Mosul.

Nawaz’s party picks Shahbaz Sharif to be Pakistan’s next prime minister
[Dhaka Tribune] Pakistain’s ruling Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalised name of Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif
...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab...
to replace Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
as prime minister of the country.

According to Geo News, the decision was taken at a meeting of the ruling party after Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister.

Citing sources, the TV channel said the meeting left the final decision to choose the new candidate for the coveted post to Nawaz Sharif.

Shahbaz Sharif will be put to a vote in the National Assembly, a rubber stamp affair as the PML-N holds a strong majority in the house.

The young Sharif is currently chief minister of powerful Punjab province, the Sharif family stronghold. He would have to step down from that role and be elected to the National Assembly before he was eligible to become prime minister.

That will require a party loyalist to resign from his seat in the national parliament, sparking a hasty vote that Shahbaz would contest on the PML-N ticket.

Shahbaz is considered more intelligent but less charismatic than his older brother.

He has controlled Punjab, Pakistain’s most populous and prosperous province, for much of the last decade, presiding over a series of big ticket infrastructure projects, including Pakistain’s first metro bus service.

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe: Mugabe Accuses Military of Plotting a Coup
[All Africa] President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
on Thursday made startling claims that the country's military top brass harboured a plot to stage a coup against his rule in new signs that Zanu PF's protracted succession politics was nearing the much-dreaded rapture.

The 93-year-old leader was speaking during a Zanu PF Women's League National Assembly meeting at the party headquarters in Harare.

President Mugabe lamented growing disunity within his beleaguered party while accusing unnamed party leaders of sending people such as current war veterans chair Christopher Mutsvangwa to make disparaging remarks about his rule through the media.

President Mugabe, who sounded despaired, spoke of clandestine meetings done by party leaders angling to succeed him.

He said there were "manoeuvres being done in the dark even of young people whom we had in the war to keep criticising us in the papers".

"It's not the likes of Mutsvangwa per se; they are not alone. They are being sent by those at the top," President Mugabe said without mentioning names.

He revealed his frustrations against the country's meddlesome military which he said has pulled all the stops to impose his successor when he was still there.

"The military, all, have no right, you know, to be interfering with the political processes, theirs is to support," said the veteran leader.

"They can give their own views within the Constitution and according also to the principle that politics shall always lead the gun and not the gun, politics, that one would be a coup.

"Now look at what is happening coming from the leaders (military) there, to say the President must now leave. He (President) must make way for who? Who has been anointed to take over?

"It's disgraceful to say 'I am the one now, the President must go', to beat your chest saying 'I am the one now'. No, we refuse, we refuse, we refuse!"

’s (ISIS) last stronghold in the southeastern countryside of al-Raqqa has begun, as Russian jets pound the terrorist group’s positions.

Russian jets flying out of the Homs Governorate carried out more than ten Arclight airstrikes already today, hitting the Islamic State’s positions inside the town of Ma’adan.

With the Syrian Army and Raqqawi tribes now within 4km of Ma’adan, the Russian Air Force has turned their attention to this town in order to weaken the terrorist group’s fortifications.

Using heavy artillery, the Lebanese Army began targeting the Islamic State’s positions after discovering the terrorist group’s movements around the Jaroud Qa’a and Ras Ba’albak areas of the Beqa’a Governorate.

The Lebanese Army has been mobilizing their forces in the Ras Ba’albak area lately, as they prepare to expel the Islamic State forces from this region once and for all.

[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS propaganda has released images from an apparently successful raid by the jihadist faction against a forward base belonging to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the southern countryside of Hasakah Governorate.

As far as the images show, it appears ISIS mustered a platoon-sized raiding force, mounted it into makeshift armored personnel carriers and then attacked the unsuspecting Kurdish outpost.

province of Afghanistan.

According to the local officials, the Arclight airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of Achin district of Nangarhar.

The officials further added that the terror group also lost at least eight gunnies in the Arclight airstrike.

The provincial government media office in a statement also confirmed the Arclight airstrike and said the main hideout of the terror group was targeted in Wach Kot area.

The statement further added that the hideout of the terror group was totally destroyed in the Arclight airstrike but no casualties or property damage was incurred to the local residents.

It is yet not clear if the Arclight airstrike was carried out by the Afghan forces or the US forces based in Afghanistan.

The anti-government armed Death Eater groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Both the Afghan and US forces conducted regular strikes against the loyalists of the terror group in this province.

The increased raids, usually involving dronezaps, by the US forces followed a broader role granted by the B.O. regime earlier last year.

North Korea fires long-range-ballistic missile
[Al Jazeera] North Korea has launched a ballistic missile, according to multiple military reports, just weeks after the country tested an intercontinental rocket capable of hitting parts of the US.

The US defence department says the launch appears to be that of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

South Korea's military and Shinzo Abe, Japan's prime minister, confirmed the report of Friday's launch. In Seoul and Tokyo, the governments convened meetings of their national security councils.

"There is a possibility that it landed within our EEZ [exclusive economic zone]," Abe said in Tokyo.

"We will be analysing it immediately and do our best for the safety of our people."

Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesperson, said the launch had been expected and took place at about 14:45 GMT from Mupyong-ni, an arms plant in northern North Korea.

He said the launch did not pose a threat to North America.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency, citing the country's military joint chiefs of staff, said the missile was launched from North Korea's Jagang province, and landed in the East Sea.

#1  It appears that the Iranian Safir upper stage uses two engines, probably R-27 derived, whereas the NKOR Simorgh upper stage has four such engines.

#2  from NASAspaceflight.com chat:

Both the armscontrolwonks and 38 North are slow with a comprehensive comparison of all the missiles after the concert. Much easier to do comparisons between missiles with data from the same analyst. Norbert Brügge did a lot of revisions since the image dump, here is some of what he thinks:

The HS-12 first (and only stage) has the same overall length as the HS-14 first stage.

The HS-12 first stage are ~1.5m diameter with common bulkhead, HS-14 first stage is ~1.70m diameter and no common bulkhead.
HS-10 is also ~1.5m diameter with common bulkhead but much shorter in length and with a submerged engine.

HS-14 second stage is of similar dimensions as the HS-13 3rd stage. HS-13 2013 parade version that is.
HS-13 first stage is larger in diameter ~1.9m.

Same engine on HS-12 and HS-14, different from the submerged engine on HS-10. Verniers may be the same.
Very little information about the HS-13 engine(s). From images the first stage has 2 main combustors and 2 verniers.

--

Seems to me like NK moved away from R-27 inspired submerged engines and redid their designs with their new engine. A slightly longer missile is not too much of a hassle on land. (Btw: that seems to be a major reason for different HS-12 and HS-14 missile length between analysts. Some add the overhanging nozzles to the length, some don't...)
Their submarine launched missiles moved to solid fuel instead.

Cruise Ship Killing Took Place During ‘Murder Mystery Party’
[THESUN.CO.UK] A HUSBAND accused of murdering his wife aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Alaska broke down in tears as he appeared in court last night.

Kenneth Manzanares, 39, wore an orange jumpsuit and was shackled at the ankles as he appeared at the US District Court in Alaska via video link.

Manzanares appeared to be crying at times before the hearing and near the start, dabbing his eyes and nose with tissues.

It has transpired that Kristy, 39, was found with a severe head wound, but authorities have declined to release other details in the case.

This includes how many people were travelling with the couple on the 3,400-passenger Emerald Princess that left Sunday from Seattle.

According to court documents, a man and other people went into the room before medical workers and security officers had arrived and saw the woman on the floor covered in blood.

The man asked Manzanares what happened, and the suspect said "she would not stop laughing at me", according to the FBI complaint.

Manzanares then grabbed his wife’s body and tried to drag her to the balcony, but the man stopped him, the documents says.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Zman: The Thot ocracy
Young males have coined a term for particularly obnoxious type of female increasingly common today. The term is “thot” which, according to Urban Dictionary, is an acronym for “that ho over there.” That’s probably true, as most kids communicate via text message these days. Of course, it also sounds a lot like “twat” so that could be why it caught on with young males. Additionally, the term means a girl who is a slut, but carries on as if she is special. It’s the sort of thing that is said to bring someone down a few notches.

Anyway, the word thot does not exactly roll off the tongue, but it is useful shorthand for the type of young woman that has become too common in our mass media. This is the girl, who would have been standing next to a Ford at the auto show in another era, but is now put on television as a serious commentator or journalist. They get the job because of their looks, but somehow they think they are public intellectuals. This American Thinker post about Katherine Timpf is a good example of the phenomenon.

Silicon Valley exec denies posing as woman, making up sex harassment claim
[MERCURYNEWS] A San Francisco businessman says he has been falsely accused of using an anonymous blog post to accuse a competitor of sexual harassment.

Brandon Katayama Hill, founder and CEO of consulting business btrax, denied the allegations that were brought against him last week in a defamation lawsuit in San Mateo County Superior Court.

“I am falsely alleged for things I have never done,” he wrote in an email to this news organization Thursday. “I am working with my attorney to make things clear.”

The lawsuit centers on an anonymous blog post titled “Happenings in Silicon Valley — I was sexually taken advantage of by a Silicon Valley VC.” While the post, originally written in Japanese, did not name the venture capitalist, Anis Uzzaman, CEO of San Jose-based Fenox Venture Capital, claims it’s obvious that the accusations were written about him.

The post appeared to have been penned by a female entrepreneur. But Uzzaman’s lawyers say in a court filing they traced the publisher’s IP address back to Hill, and now are suing him for defamation.

On Wednesday, after this news organization published a story about the lawsuit, San Francisco-based btrax tweeted a reply.

“Yesterday, a U.S. web media outlet put out information about our company’s CEO. This report was completely unwarranted,” the company wrote in Japanese. “At the moment we are putting together our response.”

Neither Hill nor btrax had responded to requests for comment for the original story.

Uzzaman’s lawsuit claims Hill and Uzzaman work in the same ecosystem, both specializing in connecting Asian companies to Silicon Valley resources, though Uzzaman is an investor and Hill runs a consulting company that helps U.S. companies expand in Asia. The lawsuit suggests tension flared between the two last year, when Fenox launched a startup competition called Startup World Cup. That competition directly competed with btrax’s own Japan Night event, Fenox’s lawyers wrote. And in the face of what they called the “huge success” of Startup World Cup, btrax ended its involvement with Japan Night last year, according to the complaint.

But in an email quoted by DailyMail.com, Hill rejected the idea that Fenox and btrax are rivals — btrax is a design company, while Fenox is a VC, he wrote. And Japan Night never competed with Startup World Cup, Hill wrote.

Hill also denied writing the blog post.

“Though it could be through the IP which I own,” Hill told DailyMail.com, “I am not the person who wrote or published the article.”

members were killed and maimed after internal splits ignited infighting among the bandidos turbans in Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
a security source was quoted saying Friday.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that violent armed festivities erupted Friday between IS members from Haija and others positioned in Abbassi region (35 Km southwest of Kirkuk), leaving many dead and injured.

"The festivities took place over disagreements regarding the distribution of ranks and allegiance to Baghdadi," the source said, referring to the group’s supreme leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
Hawija and other neighboring areas in southwest Kirkuk have been under Islamic State control since 2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic "caliphate" in Iraq and Syria.

Occasional reports have spoken about internal divisions, clash of ranks and dissent attempts among Islamic State members as Iraqi troops made victories in their campaigns targeting IS holdouts. There had also been occasional liquidations of IS leaders which some reports linked to disputes among the murderous Moslems.

42 suspected facilitators arrested in Punjab: ISPR
[DAWN] As Operation Khyber-4 continues in Khyber Agency
... the place to go if you've got an Indiana Jones hat and whip. Chock full of high adventure and treacherous Pathans. You should really train up to it, though...
, 110 square kilometres of Rajgal Valley have been cleared, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday, with over 40 suspected controllers of snuffies tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in Punjab.

The army's public relations wing said that a number of terrorist hideouts in the area had been "dismantled" and improved bombs neutralised, adding that "forces [are] searching cleared areas of Wucha Wana, Bagh, Ziarat Sereh and Pak Darra."

Additionally, the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Rangers, along with the Counter-Terrorism Department Punjab and police conducted operations against snuffies and their controllers in the province, ISPR said, adding that 42 suspects had been arrested in Islamabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi over the past 48 hours.

"The apprehended individuals are suspected of providing harbouring places to snuffies in the suburbs of Lahore and Islamabad," the ISPR handout said.

The army announced the launch of Operation Khyber-4 to "wipe out terrorists" in Rajgal Valley under Radd-ul-Fasaad earlier this month.

Khyber-4 seeks to target terrorist hideouts in what ISPR called "the most critical area in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas".

Since the launch of Operation RuF, the army has launched 46 major operations in the country and over 9,000 intelligence-based operations (IBOs).

According to ISPR, incidents of terrorism in Pakistain have shown a marked drop over the three-year period from 2014-2017, from a high of 269 incidents in February 2014, to two incidents in June 2017.

PC deputy-head Maetig flouts Serraj’s authority
[Libya Herald] A row would seem to be brewing between Presidency Council (PC) head Faiez Serraj and his deputy Ahmed Maetig after Maetig decided in Serraj’s absence to award Bunyan Marsous
...(al-Bunyan al-Marsous, Solid Base) An operation carried out by Misratan forces loyal to the Libyan Goverenment of National Accord to dislodge ISIS forces from Sirte. 2,500 turbans were reported killed in the operation, which lasted from May through December.GNA's Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj officially announced the end of military operations on 18 December 2016...
(BM) fighters LD 5,000 each for taking part in the battle last year to wrest Sirte from terrorist control.

In another, decision, Maetig told community leaders in Gasr Ben Gashir, next to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
International Airport, that they would be compensated for losses as a result of the area being targeted since 2014, although no figure was mentioned when he met with them earlier this week.

Serraj is understood to have told the PC it could take no decisions without his written approval while he was out of the country this week, first in Gay Paree for talks with Khalifa Hafter and then in Rome to discuss migrants colonists with Italian premier Paolo Gentiloni.

It remains to be seen if Serraj will seek to cancel the BM award made by his deputy, who comes from Misrata. If for no other reason, Serraj could argue that Libya simply cannot afford such munificence at this time. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
he has been placed in an impossible position, since if he seeks to annul the decree he will face protests from the BM and Misrata. The affair is being taken as further evidence of a deepening rift between the two men.

While his chief was away, Maetig committed the PC to spending a reported LD 150 million in payments to BM fighters. If the figure is correct, that would mean that some 30,000 members were involved in the BM operation, a number which some sources believe to be somewhat inflated. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
BM commanders said after their victory last December that 712 of their men had been killed and some 3,200 maimed.

Maetig did not say if he intended the money also to be paid to the families of men who died in the battles to oust the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bully boyz from Sirte.

Last year, while the largely Misratan BM forces battled for eight months to defeat the terrorists, the BM operations room frequently complained of a lack of medical, financial and logistical support from the PC in Tripoli. Yet once Sirte had been retaken, Serraj and the PC were praised by the international community for their resolute action in defeating terrorism.

It is now clear that either before the main attack on Sirte began last summer or in the closing stages of the battle for the town, a terrorist force was able to escape. One of their alleged camps to the south of the town was hit by US stealth bombers in January and the bodies of 90 terrorist suspects found.

US imam apologizes for sermon attacking Jews
[IsraelTimes] Ammar Shahin, who called for God to ’liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews,’ says he is ’deeply sorry for the pain’ he caused

A Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, imam who accused Jews of "desecrating" the mosque on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount and seemingly called for their annihilation has apologized.

"I said things that were hurtful to Jews. This was unacceptable," Ammar Shahin of Davis, California,
... last seen mouthing off in the traditional style in this story from a few days ago...
said at a presser Friday, according to a statement by the Anti-Defamation League, which welcomed the apology. "I am deeply sorry for the pain I have caused. The last thing that I would do is intentionally hurt anyone, Moslem, Jewish or otherwise. It is not in my heart."
Ain't taqqiya grand?
A national Moslem umbrella group, the Moslem Public Affairs Council, had earlier denounced the sermon.

"We are disturbed deeply by the remarks of a holy man from the Islamic Center of Davis during a sermon (khutba), which is meant to be a spiritual and uplifting speech before the congregational prayer every Friday. Instead, the sermon turned into a tirade against Jews by misquoting a saying (hadith) of the Prophet Muhammad," said the statement posted Friday by MPAC.

The sermon last week drew controversy after the Middle East Media Research Institute translated it and published a transcript. In MEMRI’s translation, Shahin calls on God to "liberate the Al Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews. Oh Allah, destroy those who closed the Al Aqsa Mosque. ... Oh Allah, count them one by one and annihilate them down to the very last one."

The sermon referred to Israel’s temporary closure of the compound after three gunnies opened fire, killing two Israeli coppers, and the temporary installations after that attack of metal detectors. The Temple Mount is Judaism’s holiest site, and the third holiest site in Islam.

Shahin and his mosque have said that his intended reference was purely to the individuals shutting down the compound.

Roadside bomb injures two Thai border policemen
[Bangkok Post] Two Thai border patrol policemen treated for shrapnel injuries after a roadside bomb blast in Narathiwat province on Wednesday evening were re-admitted to hospital on Thursday morning. The pair were released shortly after receiving treatment at a hospital.

They were members of an eight-man unit patroling a road in Rueso district where the bomb went off. The others escaped uninjured.

The bomb was concealed in a bush along the roadside and detonated by radio. The blast left a crater about 50 centimeters deep and a meter wide. Investigators found a spot about 30m off the road where the bombers were believed to have waited for the patrol unit to arrive and then detonated the bomb.

[IsraelTimes] Knife-wielding attacker kills one, wounds 6 while shouting ’Allahu Akbar’ in supermarket attack in German city

A "vicious" knife attack that left one dead and six maimed in the north German city Hamburg Friday was motivated by "hate", mayor Olaf Scholz said, although he stopped short of declaring it a terrorist incident.

"I am outraged by the vicious attack that killed at least one Hamburger today," he said.
Update at 9:40 a.m.:
From Deutsche Welle:
The website of the Spiegel news magazine said the individual was named Ahmad A., who had arrived in Germany seeking asylum and had contact with the Islamist scene, as well as a history of drug use and mental health problems.
From The Local - Germany:
Officials said Ahmad A.had not filed an appeal against Germany's decision to reject his asylum application. In fact, he had helped to obtain documents to facilitate his departure from Germany. On the day of the attack, he had even gone to the authorities to ask if the identify papers had arrived. Police chief Ralf Meyer said the suspect was "almost exemplary" in this aspect.

Heavily armed police who searched a Hamburg asylum seekers' shelter where the man lived did not find any weapons.

At the asylum shelter in a leafy suburb, the suspect's neighbour, who gave his name only as Mohamed, described him as "very intelligent".

"He was always helping other asylum seekers with their paperwork," the 31-year-old Syrian refugee told AFP.

But in recent weeks, he "had a crisis, he bought Islamist clothes and read the Koran very loudly in his room".

"And three weeks after Ramadan, he had another crisis. He started to drink heavily and smoke joints... he was sad that his mother was ill and that his asylum request was rejected," recounted Mohamed.

Beatrix von Storch of the Islamophobic populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) had stronger words, writing on Twitter that "before Mrs Merkel tweets again that this is 'beyond comprehension': this has something to do with Islam. Comprehend that once and for all!"

AfD's support has fallen back in polling since the height of the migrant crisis, but the party remains on course to clear the threshold of five percent of the vote to enter parliament for the first time [in September elections].
And the Independent is damning:
Hamburg's state interior minister, Andy Grote, said the man was a rejected Palestinian asylum seeker born in the United Arab Emirates. He said the unnamed attacker was known to have been radicalised but had not been considered dangerous and his motive remained unclear.

Torsten Voss, head of the Hamburg branch of the domestic intelligence agency, said officials interviewed the man and came away with the impression that he was a “destabilised personality” but not someone who posed an immediate threat.

Ralf Martin Meyer, the chief of the city’s police force, said that while initial findings showed the attacker had acted alone it could not be completely ruled out that he had accomplices.
Golly. More people to arrest and not deport.
Kathrin Hennings, from the state police office, said the perpetrator bought bread from the supermarket before leaving and boarding a bus, but quickly returned, took a knife from a shelf, unwrapped it and launched the attack without warning.

Officials said the man travelled to Germany from Norway
How long did he live in Norway, and in what capacity?
and initially lived in Dortmund in 2015, before being relocated to Hamburg. Dortmund is one of several known centres of jihadi networks in Germany and was the home of Boban Simeonovic, a leading figure in an Isis-linked group found to be radicalising young men and sending them to fight in Syria.

Anis Amri, the Isis supporter who killed 12 people at a Berlin Christmas market, spent time in Dortmund and was mentored by Simeonovic before his arrest in November. Amri attended classes at Simeonovic’s “Madrasa Dortmund”, which taught radical ideology and trained jihadis for combat in Syria.

A police informant within the network told officials the would-be attacker wanted to do “something here” in November 2015 – eight months after the Hamburg attacker arrived in Dortmund.

Simeonovic is one of five alleged members of the network currently in custody for terror offences carried out as part of a network headed by a Iraqi preacher known as Abu Walaa, who was classified as a “representative of the Islamic State in Germany” and travelled to mosques across the country.

The Hamburg attacker's suspected radicalisation was first reported to authorities in August 2016, by a friend who was concerned about a sudden change to his personality that saw him stop drinking and start talking about the Quran, while deportation was delayed by a lack of identification papers.

There's a problem right there. He should have been severely injured, not slightly, before the police arrived. Now, he will be treated, coddled, and probably have his asylum request fast tracked.

Nine Philippine troops injured in BIFF blast
[Inquirer] Nine Philippine troops were wounded when Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters set off an improvised explosive device in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao on Friday evening.

Maguindanao police provincial director Agustin Tello, said soldiers were passing by a dirt road in Barangay Pidsandawan when the explosion occurred. Tello said the infantry men were on their way to the battalion command post in Barangay Zapakan, also in Rajah Buayan, when the blast took place.

After the explosion, armed men positioned nearby opened fire on the government troops. Outnumbered and injured, the soldiers returned fire as they sped off.

Abu Misri Mama, speaking for the BIFF, later claimed that his group, which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, was behind the ambush. He said none of their men was harmed in the brief exchange of fire with the fleeing soldiers.

US-backed rebel commander defects to Syrian Army
[ALMASDARNEWS] The commander of one of the US-backed rebel groups in southern Syria has defected to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), opposition activists reported via social media.

Abu al-Hos, a military commander in Jaish Mughawir al-Thoura, allegedly defected to the Syrian Arab Army in the Badiya area of rural Damascus, taking several fighters and vehicles with him.

If true, Abu al-Hos’ defection will be the highest level defection from the US-backed rebel forces during the Syrian War.

Suspected Gulshan attack planner Rashed arrested in Natore
[Dhaka Tribune] Aslam Hossain Rashed alias Rashedul Islam alias Rash, suspected to be a coordinator and one of the key planners of the Gulshan attack, has been tossed in the calaboose

...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
re.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, Police headquarters, Bogra and NATOre police jointly conducted drives and arrested him from the Shingra Bus Stand area around 5am on Friday.

Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mondol confirmed the matter.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said Rashed was brought to Dhaka on Friday evening and he would be placed before the court for a remand prayer on Saturday.

According to CTTC sources, Rashed was very close to Tamim Chowdhury, who criminal masterminded the Gulshan terror attack and was killed in a Narayanganj den.

The sources claimed that Rashed was involved in the arms supply and planning of the attack, as well as in the reconnaissance of the attack location at the Holey Artisan Bakery. He left home in 2016.

Locals of Kanchanpur village in Manda upazila of Naogaon district, where Rashed’s house was said to be located, said that he was known to them under the name Aslam Ali Mohon.

They added that Rashed and his family had left the area around seven years ago, after his father Abdus Salam had been convicted in a cheque fraud case.

Rashed’s paternal uncle Abul Kalam, who still lives in their village home, confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune that Rashed’s father had been absconding since he was sentenced to a year in prison by a Naogaon court for the cheque fraud case, while his family had moved to Rajshahi.

Kalam added that locals had thought Rashed had died in crossfire with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) about two years ago, though the picture of the dear departed shown by RAB at the time did not match.

He further said that Rashed had been known to be a good boy, and there had been no indication that he would become radicalised. Rashed completed his SSC at a local school in Kanchanpur and had been admitted for HSC at a college in Rajshahi.

Manda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahbub Alam said that Rashed had no previous history of crime according to their records, though his father is indeed listed as an absconding convict in a cheque fraud case.

Rashed’s mother Nasima Khatoon refused to identify the arrested youth as her son until she saw him face to face or a photo.

"My son is Aslam Ali Mohon, not Rashed," she said

She added that her son had been missing from his rented mess in Rajshahi since early June, 2016.

Iraq
Security kill 4 suicide bombers, fifth kills whole family in Anbar
[Iraq News] Iraqi security forces killed four jacket wallahs while a fifth one killed a whole family west of Anbar, a senior army commander said Friday.

Qassem al-Mohammadi, head of the army’s al-Jazeera Operations, said in statements that security forces, backed by Tribal Mobilization troops, trapped five suicide bombers in al-Baghdadi region (90 Km west of Ramadi).

"The suiciders sneaked into al-Baghdadi through the desert, four of them were killed, while a fifth one went kaboom! inside a house, killing a whole family of six, two parents and four children," Mohammadi stated.

Government and tribal forces have occasionally repelled attacks by suicide bombers in Baghdadi ad Doulab regions, with the encounters usually leaving civilian casualties.

So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives managed to take over several surrounding villages.

The Iraqi government declared victory over IS in djinn-infested Mosul

The Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that though the Joint Operations Command gives "special attention" to the liberation of Tal Afar as the next target, troops can launch simultaneous operations also targeting IS havens west of Anbar.

On Thursday, Iraqi warplanes dropped millions of messages telling locals that liberation offensives for the province were nearing.

Last week, girl ’R’ of Darkhan had contracted court marriage with ’U’ of Daphi locality. Afzal, father of the girl, asked for a panchayat. Councillor Ghulam Husain called a panchayat at the outhouse of landlord Muhammad Asif. The local jury arranged marriage of 10-year-old sister of ’U’ with 17-year-old brother of the girl ’R’.

Al Arabiya correspondent reported that the Saudi forces had information in the past few days about attempts by Houthi militias and the forces of ousted Saleh to mobilize turbans in the Yemeni governorates opposite the Saudi border.

These turbans have been under constant surveillance over the last few days.

The Saudi forces were able to lure the Houthi turbans to enter within their target range to destroy those groups.

The four-hour military operations were carried out opposite al-Khashl, al-Fadna and al-Malhama mountains, by Apache helicopters and Saudi artillery.

Saudi rockets targeted Houthi strongholds in places where they camped at the border of Saada province.

Military sources confirmed that Saudi forces had killed at least 40 turbans and destroyed several of their military vehicles.

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Last Tuesday Rantburg presented a story out of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine about a shooting at a cafe over an unpaid bill. Originally the story from Russia recounted how six of those shot had pistols with them during the meet to discuss the bill, but carried the weapons without rounds in the chambers.

As subsequent versions showed, none of those shot appeared at the meet with personal weapons even though all of them were war veterans. Only one firearm was mentioned in later versions and that was a Universal brand Vulcan Model 440 pump action rifle.

Yes, you read that right: a pump action rifle chambered in .44 Magnum.

The rifle was a modification of the M1 Carbine, a rifle with the gas piston removed and replaced by a pump action assembly. According to the link, only 1,000 of those rifles were ever made.

You gotta wonder how a Ukrainian lawyer and former war veteran in southeastern Ukraine got his hands on such a rare weapon. And why in a nation flooded with firearms and munitions he chose to have the Vulcan as his personal defense weapon.

But alas, it is now probably in the possession of the kops.

Jamey Johnson, a favorite country musician of mine, had his concert cancelled at the House of Blues because he refused to disarm.

Finally, a silly display by a young man showing off a different way to reload his AK.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mostly steady. Rifle ammunition prices were steady.

Prices for used pistols were higher. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

New Lows:

None

US hits Iran with fresh sanctions over space launch
[Al Jazeera] The US has hit Iran with new sanctions in response to its launch of a satellite-carrying rocket into space.

The ballistic missiles sanctions, announced on Friday, target six Iranian subsidiaries of the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group, which the US treasury department says is "central" to Iran's ballistic missiles programme.

On Thursday, Iran successfully tested a rocket that can deliver satellites into orbit.

The same day, Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
showed footage of the firing of the rocket, mounted on a launchpad, carrying pictures of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Theocratic Republic, and Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Oil, Iraqi border crossing in Deir Ezzor more important than Raqqa: PYD police chief
[ALMASDARNEWS] Chief of the Asayish security forces in northern Syria, Ciwan Ibrahim, believes that the control of key oil infrastructures and the al-Bukamal Iraqi border crossing area in Deir Ezzor Governorate by Kurdish-led forces is more important than the battle for Raqqa city.

Ciwan Ibrahim cited the ’Iranian project’ conspiracy theory as the pretext for his proposed reconsideration of Kurdish geopolitical priorities in Syria.

In a statement virtually identical to official line of the Israeli government, the security chief said that the "Iranian project" in Syria and the rest of the Middle East was more dangerous than the "ISIS project," going on to claim that Iran was the criminal mastermind behind aggravations between the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Social media erupts at Musharraf for congratulating SC bench on 'brave' Nawaz ouster
[DAWN] Retired Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
on Friday posted a video message to the Twitter account of the All Pakistain Moslem League (APML), hailing the Supreme Court's disqualification of Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
as a "historic decision".

"Today is a historic and important day for Paks," he said in a recorded video, in which he also briefly summarised the decision of the apex court bench.

"I want to heartily congratulate the Supreme Court bench especially because it is a brave decision which is in accordance with the principles of justice and fairness."

He added that he wants to also congratulate the entire Supreme Court in general.

"Especially all members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) who bravely presented such a good investigation report to the SC bench despite all threats."

Only sixty Maute militants left in Marawi
[Inquirer] The Philippine military says only about 60 Maute militants are still fighting in a bloody siege of southern Marawi city that has left 630 people dead, including more than 470 gunmen, and dragged on for more than two months.

Military spokesman Restituto Padilla said Friday that most of the rebel leaders are believed to still be with the main group of gunmen fighting in an area less than one square kilometer.

Troops and police have arrested 59 men suspected of being on their way to reinforce the Marawi insurgents. The suspects were flown under heavy guard Friday to the Department of Justice in Manila, where they denied before prosecutors that they meant to back up the Maute militants.

Surman high school student banned after threatening exam monitoring committee with gun
[Libya Herald] The Presidency Council’s education minister Osman Abdel Jalil has taken the unusual step of banning a student from school for two years. The decision, one of the toughest ever taken by any education minister in memory, came after the high school student, who has been named as Muhannad Mohammed, threatened the school examination monitoring committee with a gun unless they allowed him to pass his exams.

The incident, at a private school in Sorman, happened a few days ago. The student, brandished a 9mm pistol at the committee in the apparent belief that it would pass him, enabling him to get into university.

The committee, however, reported the incident to the education ministry which has ruled that he will not be allowed to study at any public or private school in Libya for the next two years. The decision even extends to Libyan schools abroad.

Any results attributed to him in the past academic year have also been annulled, it was announced.

The incident highlights the extent to which people now think nothing of using force or threats of force to obtain what they want.

In another loosely related incident in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
yesterday, a top education ministry official named as Ahmida Ramadan Ghariani was shot at as he left a mosque in the city. Apparently the gunnies first tired to kidnap him but failed. He was not injured in the attack.

Naked Woman Breaks Bones Falling From A Balcony While Having An Orgasm
[THESUN.CO.UK] The first woman suffered broken bones in her feet and legs after she plunged ten feet from a balcony as she reached her climax.

Her naked friend screamed and ran down the stairs to help her, slipped, and snapped bones in her arm and neck.

Medics arrived at the apartment in Bad Breisig where the embarrassed man explained what had occurred.

Police said the female victims of the sex game gone wrong were both naked.

Cops added that the man in the threesome told them that "during the lovemaking, there was a positional quarrel", with one of the ladies leaning against a balcony railing which led to her plunge.
'Positional quarrel'....? Is there more than one ?
A local newspaper commented on the incident: "They better try bondage next time."
