-Lurid Crime Tales-
The FBI's fractured fairytale
[The Hill] Once upon a time, the FBI said some thugs planned to rob a bank in town. Thugs are always looking to rob banks. They try all the time. But at this particular time, the FBI was hyper-focused on potential bank robberies in this particular town.

The best way to prevent the robbery ‐ which is the goal, after all ‐ would be for the FBI to alert all the banks in town. "Be on high alert for suspicious activity," the FBI could tell the banks. "Report anything suspicious to us. We don’t want you to get robbed."

Instead, in this fractured fairytale, the FBI followed an oddly less effective, more time-consuming, costlier approach. It focused on just one bank. And, strangely, it picked the bank that was least likely to be robbed because nobody thought it would ever get elected president ‐ excuse me, I mean, because it had almost no cash on hand. (Why would robbers want to rob the bank with no cash?)

Stranger still, this specially-selected bank the FBI wanted to protect above all others happened to be owned by a man who was hated inside and outside the FBI.

So, to protect this bank owned by the guy the FBI hated, the FBI secretly examined a list of bank employees and identified a few it claimed would be likely to help robbers ‐ or, at least, would not stop a robbery. How did it select these targets? By profiling them based on their pasts.

These particular bank employees, the FBI said, were chosen because they worked long ago with customers who might have known bank robbers in the past ‐ maybe not the particular robbers planning a bank robbery this time, but different people who knew people who were thought to have robbed banks in the past ... or, perhaps, people who thought of robbing banks at some point but never got around to it.

So the FBI decided these particular bank employees, who may have known or met with suspicious people in the past, might be capable of committing a future crime.

Mind you, these targeted bank employees had never served time in prison, never been convicted of anything, never even been charged with a crime. If the FBI had just gone to them and said, "Hey, we think some people are going to rob this bank and we’ve got our eye on you, too," the bank robbery probably would be avoided. Everybody would be watching out for the robbers.

Instead, the FBI secretly sent at least one spy ‐ er, "informant" ‐ to commingle with the bank employees and get info. Yes, you are thinking, it would seem to make a lot more sense to spy on the would-be robbers than their intended victims. But the FBI chose to spy on the victims. You know, for their own good.

At least one of the FBI informants/spies met with the targeted bank employees, pretending to be interested in them, and asked questions like "If you could have a million dollars tomorrow, what would you buy?" and "Would the owner of this bank be happy for you if you came across a sudden inheritance?" The FBI informant/spy then reported back to FBI headquarters that the bank employees were clearly thinking about robbing the bank, and that the owner of the bank was part of the scheme.

Next, because the FBI claimed these employees were clearly acting suspiciously and had criminal minds, the FBI unleashed the most intrusive, sensitive intel tools on them, tools that are rarely to be used against U.S. citizens ‐ surveillance and wiretapping. FBI officials also leaked information about their investigation to the local press ‐ not information that disparaged the robbers so much as cast suspicion on the bank’s owner and employees. In fact, it almost seemed like the FBI had forgotten all about the robbers.

And so, while all this was going on, the robbers robbed the bank.

Despite all the media innuendo, the secret surveillance and the spies/informants, the FBI said the robbers made off with a lot of cash. Even though the bank didn’t have much cash.

Afterward, the FBI stepped up its investigation of the bank employees. It couldn’t find solid proof the employees had anything to do with any bank robbery but claimed they were present a couple of times when the robbers cased the joint, so they must have known a robbery was going to happen. The owner must have known, too, the FBI concluded.

After digging deeply into the bank employees’ background, the FBI found other things: One bank employee hadn’t paid proper taxes six years before; another had been briefly accused of embezzling from a previous employer years ago but was never charged; a third said things in an FBI interview that the FBI concluded were untrue. The FBI charged them all with crimes and pressured them to become witnesses ‐ not against the robbers, but against the bank owner.

In the end, the FBI held out hope that the townsfolk wouldn’t focus on the idea that all the FBI’s hard work and planning to supposedly protect the town’s banks only resulted in the utter failure of its stated mission: The bank got robbed, the cash would never be recovered, and the robbers would never serve time. Yet, some of the bank employees might ‐ not for the robbery but for that other stuff.

The moral of the story: It’s a weird way to prevent a bank robbery.

On the other hand, if the FBI’s real goal ‐ in this fractured fairytale ‐ was to frame the hated owner of the bank and his employees, it all makes sense.

Africa Subsaharan
Activist Emily Hobhouse: A story seldom told, a film never to be made.
The South African War of 1899-1901 - also known as the Boer War - was described as a 'whiteman's war', which was something of a surprise to the displaced black population of South Africa. But as an imperial war, with British troops fighting South African Boers, it actively excluded Indian soldiers of the British empire.
With the exception of the Natal Indian Ambulance Corps created by Mahatma Gandhi
This war was 'famous' for many things, including its terrible role as originator of Concentration Camps.

And yet, in Australia at least, it has hardly entered the popular or creative imagination. There's the film Breaker Morant, and there are other novels and stories, but it is not a strong 'memory' in popular imagination, which seems to flit from the early 1890s over to the First World War.

It remains a rich site for scholars and historians, however, and Robert Eales was taken by the story of activist and witness Emily Hobhouse. She was an Englishwoman who travelled to South Africa, to agitate for better conditions for the women and children incarcerated by the British in camps.
With the recent acknowledgement and addition of possibly as many as 30,000 blacks (servants and farm workers), the number of dead in the camps now are estimated at over 50,000.
She was an outspoken activist, who incited both support and scorn. She was labelled a traitor and, in a moment of great drama, was carried off a ship in the very seat she was sitting in, and sent back to England.

Surely this would make a great historical novel, or even a feature film?

Robert Eales spoke to Kate Evans about his research, and together they speculated on what else might be done with this story.

#3  This was where Winston Churchill got his start - as a war correspondent who was captured and escaped. Rudyard Kipling and Arthur Conan Doyle were also reporters of that war. His escapades marked the turning point of the war from Dutch to British dominance - whether there was a causal relation is subject to speculation.

Pennsylvania driver allegedly defecates on another man in road-rage incident
[FOX] A Pennsylvania man on Friday allegedly defecated on a fellow driver after the two engaged in a road-rage argument, Lehigh Valley Live reported.

The alleged incident occurred at 8:45 p.m. It is not immediately clear what transpired before the interaction, but Pennsylvania State Police said the exchange led to Henry George Weaver defecating on the victim.

Weaver’s age was not revealed but he will be charged with harassment, WFMZ.com reported.

Last month, a Canadian woman was arrested after police said she deliberately defecated on the floor of a Tim Hortons restaurant and threw her feces at a store clerk, according to local reports.

The woman, who used nearby napkins to clean herself during the incident, was reportedly refused access to the store restroom.

Elite Gurkhas from Nepal deployed to secure Trump-Kim summit
SINGAPORE (AP) ‐ To protect one of the highest-profile diplomatic events so far this century, Singapore has enlisted the help of its fearsome Nepalese fighters whose large curved knives, according to custom, must "taste blood" whenever they're drawn.

Wearing brown berets and equipped with body armor and assault rifles, the elite Gurkha police officers are a conspicuous part of the enveloping security force Singapore has deployed for Tuesday's summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The meeting, which could prove to be a crucial moment in the global diplomatic push to resolve the nuclear standoff with Pyongyang, has sent the highly manicured city-state into security overdrive. Trump and Kim have brought their own personal security personnel and heavily armored limousines; Kim's bodyguards have been seen running in formation alongside his massive Mercedes.

Selected among young men from impoverished Nepal, Gurkhas have been part of Singapore's police force since 1949. There are reportedly about 1,800 Gurkha officers in Singapore, and they are a regular presence at high-security events. On Monday, they were seen standing guard at the heavily fortified St. Regis Singapore, where Kim arrived Sunday afternoon.

"This is a moment of pride to see the Gurkhas responsible for guarding such an important event," said Krishna Kumar Ale, who served for 37 years in the British army before retiring back home in Nepal. "It shows that we Gurkhas have reached a point where we are trusted with the security of two of the most important people in the world."

Durham NC Pro-Israel groups organize against City Council ban on police exchanges with Israel
[LI] On April 16h, Durham, North Carolina became the first American city to align a municipal public policy with the agenda of the virulently anti-Jewish and anti-peace extremist organization Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), which falsely blames Israel and American Jewish organizations for U.S. domestic police militarization and instances of police violence against blacks and other minorities in America, Demonization: Durham NC City Council bans police exchanges with Israel.

As we discussed, in a statement which passed unanimously, the City Council of Durham imposed a total ban on police exchanges with "only one country in the world: the Jewish nation of Israel."

It did so without any evidence to support this discriminatory action and based solely on propaganda concocted by the radical JVP and promoted by its local activists and their allies, who together launched the "Demilitarize! Durham2Palestine" coalition and a sophisticated PR campaign.

In our prior post, we described how Durham’s City Council ended up lending legitimacy to JVP’s malicious "Deadly Exchange" campaign, which seeks to delegitimize Israel and American Jewish groups by blaming them for institutionalized racism and societal ills in America, including domestic policing problems in minority communities:

A New, More Rigorous Study Confirms: The More You Use Facebook, the Worse You Feel
[Harvard Business Review] The average Facebook user spends almost an hour on the site every day, according to data provided by the company last year. A Deloitte survey found that for many smartphone users, checking social media apps are the first thing they do in the morning ‐ often before even getting out of bed. Of course, social interaction is a healthy and necessary part of human existence. Thousands of studies have concluded that most human beings thrive when they have strong, positive relationships with other human beings.

The challenge is that most of the work on social interaction has been conducted using "real world," face-to-face social networks, in contrast to the types of online relationships that are increasingly common. So, while we know that old-fashioned social interaction is healthy, what about social interaction that is completely mediated through an electronic screen? When you wake up in the morning and tap on that little blue icon, what impact does it have on you?

Prior research has shown that the use of social media may detract from face-to-face relationships, reduce investment in meaningful activities, increase sedentary behavior by encouraging more screen time, lead to internet addiction, and erode self-esteem through unfavorable social comparison. Self-comparison can be a strong influence on human behavior, and because people tend to display the most positive aspects of their lives on social media, it is possible for an individual to believe that their own life compares negatively to what they see presented by others. But some skeptics have wondered if perhaps people with lower well-being are more likely to use social media, rather than social media causing lower well-being. Moreover, other studies have found that social media use has a positive impact on well-being through increased social support and reinforcement of real world relationships.

Arabia
UAE Sez It Can't Control Yemeni Force ‐ Even As It Hands Them Bags of Cash
[The Intercept] ON THE EDGE of the village of Al Buqa in the Yemeni governorate of Hodeidah last month, Yemeni fighters dressed in a mix of military fatigues and mawaz ‐ the wraparound skirt traditionally worn by men here ‐ stood in a loose formation along the main highway near the bright blue waters of the Red Sea.

The fighters, known as the Yemeni National Resistance, included members of the sandal-clad Tihama Resistance, gaunt and war-weary after years of fighting, as well as the more recently deployed Guards of the Republic led by the nephew of Ali Abdullah Saleh, Yemen’s former president of 33 years. Along with southern Yemenis, ultraconservative Sunni Muslim Salafis, and Sudanese troops, they are America’s de facto allies in a fight against the Houthis, an Iran-allied rebel group that, since 2015, has been fighting a U.S.-backed coalition of 10 nations led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Yemeni coalition-allied fighters have advanced rapidly since the UAE stepped up support for them after Saleh was killed in December. A longtime U.S. and Gulf ally, Saleh had aided the Houthi takeover of Yemen’s capital in 2014. But at the end of 2017, he switched sides again, declaring loyalty to the coalition and sparking a battle with the Houthis that ended in his death at their hands.

Austria Is Shutting Down Mosques And Ejecting Imams
[Hot Air] There are more changes coming to Austria as they struggle to deal with the European migration crisis and the constant threat of Islamic terrorism on the continent. The nation is currently led by the government of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, coincidentally the same guy our own German ambassador recently called a rockstar.

In a move which seemed to come as a surprise even among some of his own supporters, Kurz will be closing more than half a dozen mosques and ejecting dozens of Imams suspected of supporting radical theology, along with the disbanding of other Islamic organizations. (Daily Mail)

Jeff Sessions Delivers: DOJ Nails Senate Intel Committee's Security Chief as Deep State Leaker
[Breitbart] Senior Justice Department officials announced late Thursday criminal charges against Senate Intelligence Committee’s long-time director of security James Wolfe.

The indictment charges Wolfe with making false statements to the FBI and details how Wolfe passed classified information, including presumably information related to one-time Trump campaign aide Carter Page, to a series of media outlets, confirming long-standing suspicions of the career intelligence community’s complicity in leaks.

The three-count indictment charges Wolfe with separate instances of making false statements to the FBI, not directly charging him for leaking classified information, but appearing to detail how he did allegedly leaked classified information to reporters and then allegedly lied about it to the FBI.

The 11-page indictment does not name the reporters and does not name the person about whom classified information was leaked, but labels them as "Reporter #1," "Reporter #2," "Reporter #3," and "Reporter #4" as well as "MALE-1" respectively. It is presumed that "MALE-1" is Page, the ex-Trump aide, and "Reporter #2" is then-Buzzfeed News now New York Times reporter Ali Watkins.

Watkins broke the Carter Page angle of the "Russia investigation" back in April 2017 with a story called "A Former Trump Adviser Met With A Russian Spy." In it, Watkins claimed, "The revelation of Page’s connection to Russian intelligence ‐ which occurred more than three years before his association with Trump ‐ is the most clearly documented contact to date between Russian intelligence and someone in Trump’s orbit."

5 Reasons Trump Will Win 40 States in 2020

After every curve-ball has been thrown at him from every conceivable direction, Donald Trump will win 40 states, and do so in a most extraordinary way.

He already is.

No one believed me, but I based it on five instinctive realities I could see forming. I indicated if as few of three of the five occurred he’d likely be elected. Four of the five came true.

[American thinker] I have known Jeff Sessions for a long time. In 1994, he was running for Alabama attorney general, and I was running for the congressional seat presently occupied by Mo Brooks. Jeff and I, then, were on the same GOP ticket in my congressional district, and we showed up at times on the same stump. He won, and I lost. Out of 50,000 votes cast in the primary, I came up 23 votes short.

Since then, I have watched from the sidelines and have been a constant fan of Jeff Sessions. I particularly admired him when he jumped out front and endorsed Donald Trump before any other senator did.

After Trump's victory, Sessions accepted the attorney general's job, and, to the chagrin of Trump and the surprise of many others, promptly recused himself from the most important business facing the Department of Justice. This was a cosmic error. It, for example, has had the bizarre result of having one of the president's employees, Mr. Mueller, working assiduously to destroy his boss.

I will here attempt to throw some light on Sessions's jolting behavior.

#2  Sessions needs to do the right thing and resign. Get a real swamp-clearing person in there, who will ask for resignation letters on day one from all top level officials, then decide which ones that don't need to be replaced.

After all the corruption of the Obama era, a light hand from a DC insider Senator is not what is needed.

If Gowdy had not already washed his hands of it, I would say he would be the right person.

How about a former AG for a very large state, solid conservative? Gov Abbot, Texas.

Serve 2 years then run that RINO Cornyn out of the Senate.

Jury finds former CIA officer guilty of espionage
[The Hill] A former CIA agent was convicted by a jury in Virginia on Friday of giving classified secrets to a Chinese intelligence agent.

Kevin Mallory was found guilty of conspiracy to deliver information, attempted delivery, delivery of defense information to aid a foreign government and making materially false statements.

Mallory traveled to China in March and April of 2017, where he met a man he suspected to be a Chinese intelligence operative, the Justice Department said in a release.

The Washington Post reported that Mallory attempted to convince CIA agents that he was a "triple agent" working to expose the Chinese operation.

The plan failed, and Mallory was arrested after investigators found a concealed micro SD card in his house containing images of the documents he turned over to China.

Mallory faces a maximum penalty of life in prison under the charges.

Assistant Attorney General John Demers said that Mallory's conviction was not an "isolated incident" and that China's spying efforts aimed at the U.S. were ongoing.

"It is a sad day when an American citizen is convicted of spying on behalf of a foreign power," Demers said in a statement.

Dozens of Saudi mercenaries killed as Yemeni forces hit bases in Ta’izz, Hudaydah
[PRESSTV] Dozens of Saudi-sponsored bandidos turbans loyal to Yemen's resigned president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, have been killed and scores of others sustained injuries when Yemeni army forces separately fired two domestically-manufactured ballistic missiles at their base in the country’s southwestern province of Ta’izz as well as the western coastal province of Hudaydah.

A Yemeni military source, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, told Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that Yemeni soldiers and their allies launched a short-range Zelzal-2 (Earthquake-2) missile at the Saudi mercenaries in the Maqbanah district of Ta’izz.

The source added that the attack left an unidentified number of Hadi loyalists dead and injured.

Earlier in the day, many Saudi-sponsored bandidos turbans bit the dust and sustained injuries when Yemeni soldiers and allied fighters fired a Qaher M-2 (Subduer M-2) ballistic missile at their position in Hudaydah.

The statement came after the U.S. Africa Command (Africom) said its soldier was killed and four others injured during a joint operation on Friday afternoon, about 350 km southwest of Mogadishu.

Africom said about 800 U.S., Kenyan and Somali forces came under mortar and small-arms fire during a multi-day security operation.

Waldhauser said the maimed Americans have been treated and discharged and are currently in Kenya as they await follow-on transportation for additional medical evaluation.

Trump’s high-risk meeting with Kim is scheduled for Tuesday.

The president hopes to win a legacy-making deal with the North to give up their nuclear weapons, though he has recently sought to manage expectations, saying that it may take more than one meeting.

This will be the first summit of its kind between a leader of North Korea and a sitting US president. The North has faced crippling diplomatic and economic sanctions as it has advanced development of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Big Oil Booms: Texas Truck Drivers Make $140k, Forces Rising Wages in Other Industries
[Town Hall] Big Oil is having an incredible impact, again, in Texas. Midland, TX is experiencing such a booming shale-oil economy that truck drivers are making more than $100,000. In turn, smaller businesses are forced to either raise their wages or extend hours to retain workers. But, this successful economy has what some say are a few downsides as well. With increased wages comes increased rents and labor shortages in public positions. Regardless, the region’s industry is providing bevy of economic benefits that could last for a very long time, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Midland has an astoundingly low 2.1% unemployment rate due to the success of companies such as Chevron and Aveda Transportation & Energy Services Inc. Thanks to recent technology developments and decreased regulations, a swath of land roughly 75,000 square miles accounts for "30% of all U.S. [shale-oil] output." Plus, "booming U.S. shale production is fueling record crude oil exports, with shipments reaching an all-time high of 1.76 million barrels a day in April."

As these companies grow, they need more workers. In order to be competitive, some are offering truck drivers as much $140,000 a year for transportation services. This provides many Americans who cannot afford a 4 year degree to instead opt for a two year degree and a commercial driver’s license.

"A CDL is a golden ticket around here," said Steve Sauceda, who runs the workforce training program at New Mexico Junior College. "You are employable just about anywhere."

Other folks such as Jazmin Jimenez, age 24, earn $28 dollars working in the industry.

Assad says Douma chemical weapons attack was UK public relations stunt
[ALMASDARNEWS] The US, the UK and La Belle France launched Arclight airstrikes against Syria in April after accusing Damascus of a chemical attack in the city of Douma. The Syrian and Russian governments have charged the US and UK-funded White Helmets group with staging a false-flag chemical attack in the city to prompt Western military intervention.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, President Assad accused the three Western powers of using the White Helmets group to give them a pretext to attack Syria.

"The UK publicly supported the White Helmets that are a branch of al-Qaeda, al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
, in different areas of Syria. They [Britannia] spent a lot of money, and we consider the White Helmets to be a PR stunt by the UK. So yes, definitely, it was staged by these three countries together, and the UK is involved," Assad said.

Noting that the US-British-French tripartite didn’t provide the public with evidence that an attack actually took place at Douma, Assad said that this wasn’t the point. "The crux of the issue is that they need to undermine the Syrian government, as they needed to change and topple the Syrian government at the beginning of the events of the war in Syria. They keep failing, they keep telling lies, and they continue to play a war of attrition against our government," the president said.

Commenting on Prime Minister Theresa May’s statements that Britannia’s participation in the attack on Syria was permitted under international law and aimed at alleviating suffering, Assad said that by her logic, "when Britannia and the US attacked Iraq illegally in 2003, killed millions, caused mass destruction, let alone the number of widows and amputees... any government has the right to attack the UK or the US if it thought the act was justified, legal and allowed under international law to alleviate human suffering."

Trump tore up letter from Schumer into 'tiny pieces': Report
President Trump's habit of ripping papers after reading them led to the demise of a letter sent by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to a report.
Proving, once again, that Mr. Trump has his finger on the pulse of America.
"I had a letter from Schumer ‐ he tore it up," Soloman Lartey, who formerly was tasked with records management for the White House, told Politico. "It was the craziest thing ever. He ripped papers into tiny pieces."
As if Mr. Trump does not have a 24k gold-plated shredder emblazoned with a big fricken "T." Sheesh...
These things are also composed on computers now, the files retained, and most are cc'd, in Trump's case at least to the vice president. No need for the fainting couch.
Which letter from the New York Democrat was torn up was not identified.
"Dear Mr.Trump, Please tear this up so I can try to sham(e) you. Thank you, 'Cryin Chuck.'"
The Politico report delved into how Lartey and his colleagues would use Scotch tape to piece back together papers torn up by Trump to fulfill legal requirements to preserve White House records as stipulated by the Presidential Records Act.
If only there were a Constitutional Law "Professor" who could explain all of this to me.
"We got Scotch tape, the clear kind," Lartey noted. "You found pieces and taped them back together and then you gave it back to the supervisor."

All papers that were mended were then sent to the National Archives for filing.

Lartey, along with his former colleague, Reginald Young, Jr., told the news outlet that this routine, which marked a departure from their time working under the Obama administration, was happening at least up until the Spring, when they were abruptly fired without an explanation.
OK, got it now.
Neither the White House nor Irene Porada, the head of human resources who personally fired both men, did not respond to Politico's
OK, got it now, Part Two.
requests for comment on their terminations.
Next Up, "Mika reports that President Trump lights his farts."

Venezuela’s Long Road to Hell
[WSJ] If anything was more predictable than the mess created by Hugo Chavez’s Marxist Bolivarian Revolution, it is the pathetic effort by socialists to deny responsibility. The Socialist Party of Great Britannia tweeted recently that Venezuela’s problem is that socialism has yet to be tried.
Everybody knows that. And Italy's problem was that Fascism had yet to be tried.
It blamed the crisis on "a profit-driven capitalist economy under leftist state-control." Even more preposterous is the claim by some academics that economic liberalism in the 1980s spawned the socialism that has destroyed the country.
And Maduro's hiss own grampaw. That had something to do with it.
Learning from history is impossible if the narrative is wrong. So let’s clear the record: By the time Chavez was elected, Venezuela already had 40 years of socialism under its belt and precious little, if any, experience with free markets.

Military dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez was toppled in January 1958. Romulo Betancourt, an avowed socialist, was elected president later that year.

When Venezuela promulgated its 1961 constitution, Betancourt immediately suspended Article 96, which read: "All can freely engage in the profitable activity of their choice, without any limitations other than those provided for in this Constitution and those established by law for security, health or other reasons of social interest."

This crucial protection remained on the shelf for 30 years, as a string of socialist governments employed price and exchange controls in counterproductive attempts to raise living standards.

Rent control in Venezuela dates to 1939 but was not enforced by Pérez Jiménez. In August 1960 Betancourt revived it, passing a new rent-control law and prohibitions on eviction. Since then, "not one apartment rental building has been built," writes Vladimir Chelminski in his 2017 book, "Venezuelan Society Checkmated." The legendary slums that climb Caracas’s hillsides are a testament to this socialist stupidity.

Carlos Andrés Pérez took the presidency for the first time in 1974. World oil prices had shot up as President Nixon’s domestic price controls crippled U.S. production. As a result, Venezuela felt rich. The national assembly granted CAP, as the president was popularly known, an "enabling law" so that he could rule by decree. He mandated salary increases for the entire nation and implemented, for the first time, a minimum wage. He froze prices and issued crazy edicts. All commercial buildings had to employ elevator operators, and all public restrooms had to have attendants.

CAP put limits on foreign investment in everything from telecom and banking to food and electricity distribution, forcing foreigners to sell what they owned in Venezuela. He nationalized oil in 1976. The state expanded its role in iron, steel and aluminum and took control of coffee, cocoa and the previously independent central bank.

CAP and his successors ran up unsustainable debt. The bolivar had been fixed at between 4.3 and 4.5 to the dollar since the early 1960s. But by the late 1970s, with the central bank printing money, it was no longer worth that.

Buying dollars with bolivars became a lucrative national pastime until 1983, when President Luis Herrera Campins announced exchange controls. He also reinforced price controls, which by then applied to virtually everything, from cement, hotels and banking to parking lots, meat, milk and sugar.

When CAP returned to power in 1989, he inherited a fiscal and monetary time bomb. Out of options, he liberated almost all prices, along with the exchange rate, opened the country to foreign investment, and lowered import tariffs. He restored Article 96 of the constitution. According to Mr. Chelminski, a former executive director of the Caracas chamber of commerce, the positive effects included a notable recovery in foreign investment, exports and economic growth.

But Cuba had already infiltrated the military. Now it capitalized on the social unrest generated by the sudden reversal of policies, which exposed pent-up inflation. CAP also had credibility problems with investors. After two coup attempts in 1992 he was weakened and eventually removed for corruption.

Rafael Caldera took office for a second time in 1994 and restored price and exchange controls. By 1996, facing another collapse, he reversed course again, liberating prices and opening markets. The adjustment exposed reality but was painful, especially in the face of falling oil prices. Thus, the ground was fertile for an antiestablishment candidate in 1998.

Chavez was inaugurated in February 1999, in the midst of a recovery in oil prices and with the bolivar at 576 to the dollar. He tripled down on socialism, exacerbating a long history of destroying capital that would lead to today’s disaster.

Word from Caracas is that locals have taken to scouring city streets for plastic garbage bags full of rubbish and, when they find them, emptying the contents so that they can resell the bags.

This sounds absurd, but it is believable in a country where extreme poverty has spread like the plague. Human capital is fleeing. Oil production is plummeting, and the state-owned oil company is in default. The garbage bag, imported with dollars, is a thing of value.

If anything was more predictable than the mess created by Hugo Chávez’s Marxist Bolivarian Revolution, it is the pathetic effort by socialists to deny responsibility. The Socialist Party of Great Britain tweeted recently that Venezuela’s problem is that socialism has yet to be tried. It blamed the crisis on “a profit-driven capitalist economy under leftist state-control.” Even more preposterous is the claim by some academics that economic liberalism in the 1980s spawned the socialism that has destroyed the country.

Intense clashes breakout between Turkish-backed groups in Afrin
[ALMASDARNEWS] Intense festivities broke-out between the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebel groups near the Afrin region of Aleppo, tonight, pro-opposition activists reported via social media.

According to these reports, Harakat Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
and the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
’s Sultan Murad group have been involved in a fierce confrontation for several hours tonight.

The festivities are reportedly taking place in the area between the city of ’Azaz and Afrin region in northwest Aleppo.

The cause of these festivities is still unknown; however, as of recently, the rebel groups have been fighting over their share of the abandoned homes in Afrin.

With most of the population displaced, the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels have taken the opportunity to loot and declare ownership of the abandoned homes.

Dignity Operation official: We will move troops to ‘liberate’ Misrata and Sabha after Derna
[Libya Observer] An official from the ranks of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
’s self-styled army said Derna will not be the final target for their army, but other cities will be on the list.

The media coordinator of Dignity Operation’s "Omer Mukhtar Room for the Liberation of Derna", Abdul-Karim Sabra, told Russia’s Sputnik on Saturday that "the Libyan Armed Forces will not stop in Derna, but they will move on to the southern region, and they will liberate Sabha, Misrata and entire Libya."

He added that the aim of their planned move is to "maintain Libya’s unity and get rid of all forms of terrorism in the east, south and west of Libya."

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment...
Kufra mayor, Muftah Abu Khalil, declared to the Russian news agency that the southern region could be the next target for "they army", confirming that Derna battle will not be the last.

"Liberating Derna will be an important step in the war on terrorism, and then comes the next stage which is eradicating all terrorist groups from Libya." He said.

Dignity Operation launched early in May an assault on Derna to take it over from what it called "terrorist groups."

Erdogan Predicts ‘War Between the Cross and Crescent’ over Austria Mosque Closures
[BREITBART] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
attacked Austria’s impending closure of mosques and consequent expulsion of Ottoman Turkish-funded imams, saying the move is anti-Islamic while promising a response.

"These measures taken by the Austrian prime minister are, I fear, leading the world towards a war between the cross and the crescent," Erdogan said in a speech in Istanbul covered by AFP.

Austria’s populist government made the announcement on Friday morning at a presser as part of the governing coalition’s campaign against radical Islamic ideology and the influence of countries like The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
in the Austrian Islamic community, Kronen Zeitung reports.

Media reports that between 40 and 60 imams, including their families, could be expelled in total. The imams all stand accused of receiving funding from abroad. Official investigations have been launched in 11 cases. Two of the imams had already been denied extensions to their residency permits.

Among the mosques facing closure is the Mosque of the Grey Wolves on Antonsplatz, in the working-class Vienna district of Favoriten, where the Gallipoli reenactment took place.

The other six mosques are in Vienna, Upper Austria and Carinthia, in all of which hardline salafist
...also known as Wahhabis, salafists are against innovation in religion or in anything else. They eat the same things every meal of every day and all their children are named Abdullah or Mohammed. Not all salafists are takfiris, but all takfiris are salafists. They are fond of praying five times a day and killing infidels...
teachings are said to be widespread.

Mr. Erdogan, speaking Saturday, said: "They say they’re going to kick our religious men out of Austria. Do you think we will not react if you do such a thing?"

"That means we’re going to have to do something," he added without elaborating.

Gang of robbers posing as law enforcement busted in Karachi, claim police
[DAWN] Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of street criminals in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
who had allegedly been looting people near Jinnah Terminal by posing as police personnel, a police brass hat said.

Korangi SSP (Investigation) Captain Haider Raza said a Model Colony police party got word from police Madadgar-15 helpline on their wireless set when victim Muhammad Naeem complained that some suspects had robbed him.

Acting on this information, the police party started snap checking and saw what appeared to be the Corolla car mentioned in the complaint, coming towards them in Model Colony.

The police signalled for them to stop but the suspects sped up the vehicle in their bid to flee. This immediately prompted the police party to start a chase.

The suspects resorted to firing and in "self-defence", the police also responded with fire as a result of which two suspects, Jamal Dost Muhammad and Amir Younus aka Toofan, were tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in a maimed state, while the third suspect, Inaam Zohair, was also arrested from the car.

Two other suspects who were also present in the car managed to escape from the scene, taking advantage of the darkness, said SSP Raza.

The police claimed to have recovered one repeater gun, a pistol and commando caps with police insignia from the suspected robbers. Additionally, fake walkie-talkies were also recovered from their possession along with the looted cash of the complainant.

The injured were shifted to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre for treatment.

"They are members of an 'Iranian' gang who used to loot cars near the airport by presenting themselves as police personnel," claimed the bigwig.

SSP Raza recalled that this gang of "Iranians" had been active in street crimes near the airport, in Model Colony, and Khokhrapar. It had become "inactive or dormant" when its members were arrested in the recent past.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
for the last five months, the gang members had become active again and had been living in a rented house in Khokhrapar.

"They are members of a professional gang," the officer stated.

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
defenses at several axes in a bid to overwhelm their forces.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the Southern Resistance attack has so far been unsuccessful, as the Houthi forces have refused to yield any ground to these UAE-backed troops in the Hodeideh Governorate.

The UAE-backed troops are currently trying to capture the al-Jah District in order to advance towards the strategic port-city of Hodeideh in western Yemen.

Despite their best efforts to reach Hodeideh city, the Southern Resistance offensive has mostly been forestalled, as some of their troops have found themselves cutoff from their main supply line.

James Clapper made 'unmasking' requests to identify U.S. citizens 'once every couple of weeks'
[Wash Times] Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Thursday he would make "unmasking" requests to reveal the identity of a U.S. citizen every "couple of weeks" during a more than six-year period.

His comments about unmasking were made to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, who asked about then-President Barack Obama’s U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power’s testimony in which she said other people had used her name to make unmasking requests.

Mr. Clapper said he did not know how that could happen, and that during his time as DNI director, he would make an unmasking request "once every couple of weeks, something like that, over the six and a half years."

"I’d come across reports that, and I felt, you know, that it was my duty to understand, my obligation as the director of national intelligence, to understand these interactions when U.S. persons were interacting with valid foreign intelligence targets, particularly Russians, our adversary," Mr. Clapper said.

Privacy advocates have continuously questioned the number of U.S. citizens who are unmasked by intelligence agencies through surveillance programs such as Section 702 of the Foreign Surveillance Act, which was just recently reauthorized.

Mr. Clapper also belittled former British spy Christopher Steele’s dossier, saying it was not an intelligence document as not all of it had been verified. In the interview with Mr. Hewitt, Mr. Clapper said it was never used as the sole reason to obtain a FISA warrant, which was an allegation made by some members of Congress.

Palestinians must decide fate of Palestine: Ayatollah Khamenei
[PRESSTV] Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution
...Iran's doddering head theocrat...
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
...the successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the actual dictator of Iran...
says the fate of Paleostine must be determined by Paleostinians, including Moslems, Jews and Christians, who originally lived in the historical land of Paleostine.

"Today, democracy is a modern method, which is accepted by the entire world. We said that to determine the fate of the historical country of Paleostine, they must refer to the people of Paleostine and this proposal has been registered at the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
as the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s opinion," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with a group of university professors and academics in Tehran on Sunday.

The Leader added that a poll must be conducted among Paleostinians, who have lived there since 100 years or 80 years ago, including Moslems, Jews and Christians, and whether they live inside or outside the occupied territories.

"Then whatever they said [and voted for] it must be done. Is this a bad idea? Aren’t European countries ready to understand this?" the Leader asked.

A Girl's Killing Shakes Germany's Migration Debate
[NYTimes] It was a gruesome murder: A 14-year-old girl was raped and strangled, her body buried under brushwood in a secluded area near the railway tracks near her hometown in western Germany.

But the fact that the chief suspect is an Iraqi asylum seeker has turned a terrible crime into political dynamite.

On Friday, the case dominated the German news media and became the latest cudgel for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s opponents and, some predicted, a potential turning point in the migration debate in a country where some 10,000 asylum seekers still enter every month.

There is no doubt the murder has given ammunition to those who want to get tougher, led by the far right, who are waging a widening challenge to what they contend is the government’s botched handling of asylum cases.

The murder suspect, identified as Ali Bashar, a 20-year-old Iraqi, arrived in Germany in October 2015, shortly after Ms. Merkel opened the borders to hundreds of thousands of migrants. He was rejected in late 2016, but was allowed to stay in the country while his appeal was pending.

Last Saturday, he and seven other members of his family managed to flee the country, boarding a plane in Düsseldorf with papers apparently issued by the Iraqi Consulate but featuring false names, after paying cash for a one-way fare to Istanbul and then on to Iraq, where he has since been arrested.

The case is not linked to the scandal at the German migration agency, but together they have played into fears that Ms. Merkel’s government is not in control of the migrant situation.

The scandal at the migration agency has been building for weeks since state prosecutors began a criminal investigation into alleged corruption at a regional office in Bremen, in northern Germany. The investigation was recently broadened to include at least 10 other offices with above-average rates of granting asylum.

Critics of Ms. Merkel, led by the nativist Alternative for Germany party, now the largest opposition party, have been calling for a parliamentary inquiry into her migration policy. The proposal is gaining traction with other parties, too, and could threaten Ms. Merkel’s uneasy coalition with the Social Democrats.

On Thursday night, after reports of the killing, Alice Weidel, the deputy leader of the AfD, accused Ms. Merkel of sharing responsibility in the death of the girl, who has been identified by the authorities as Susanna Feldmann, and called for her entire cabinet to step down.

#1  The author of this article apparently is a native German. In light of this it is telling that the fact that the victim is Jewish is never mentioned.

Also the article quotes the victim's mother's open letter to Merkel without mentioning her specific complaints about the police.

According to the letter the police initially did not take any action after the girl was reported missing. Only 5 days later, after the mother had hired a lawyer did the police subpoena cell phone data and go public with the search.

Also the mother had told the police that her daughter's fake last message was written in a style she didn't recognize, but she was ignored.

The letter in German can be found here.

#7  Why she should want this is left as an exercise for the reader.

Her father was a fully committed supporter of Soviet Communism. The religious doctrine her father taught her stated that communist rule is the Christian protestant god's will.

Conversely the mere existence of Western civilization and free societies is a sin against that god.

Theocracy, totalitarianism, enmity towards the West are the essential aspects of Merkel's political and philosophical background.

Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa Admits Internal Party Polls Rigged
[All Africa] President Emmerson "Crocodile" Mnangagwa has admitted his Zanu PF party's primary elections were rigged.

In rare frank talk by a Zanu PF leader, Mnangagwa told his party's central committee meeting in the capital Friday that he wanted to chart a new course henceforth.

"With regards to the recently held primary elections and our internal democratic process we were exposed to gross shortcomings within our party systems, cadre orientation and grounding.

"The primary election process therefore brought to the fore conduct which is alien to the character and personality of our revolutionary party," said Mnangagwa.

Zanu PF has been accused of rigging national elections and in 2013 the opposition claimed the ruling party used an Israeli company to manipulate the results of the elections won by the former liberation movement with a landslide.

"This includes alleged vote buying, outright manipulation of party procedures, rules and regulations and disregard to the letter and spirit of the constitution of our party," said Mnangagwa.

"We noted with concern the unbridled ambition demonstrated by some cadres of the party who were prepared to win no matter the costs."

Mnangagwa promised to reform Zanu PF's internal systems including creating a new structure to run the affairs of the party full-time.

"Ours is a revolutionary party; things go according to the rules. We also recognise the need to modernize our party systems in general. While we cannot change the past, we must indeed learn from," he said.

He pleaded with his lieutenants to project a new face of the ruling party.

"Let the people see a new face of our party through our good deeds, language and positive energy as we inspire them towards a better tomorrow.

"In the new Zim-bob-we everyone is free to campaign, to speak their mind and to express themselves, however they choose," he said adding Zanu PF should not be distracted "from our ultimate goal of of putting food in every Zim-bob-wean's plate."

India-Pakistan
Two Indians lynched over social media rumours
[DAWN] A fortnight after rumours spread via WhatsApp triggered communal violence in Meghalaya capital Shillong, social media posts about child abductors led to the lynching of two young men on vacation in BJP-ruled Assam on Friday evening, The Hindu reported on Saturday.

It said Nilotpal Das, an audio engineer into experimental music and Abjijeet Nath, a digital artist had gone to the hills on Friday. The two, in their late 20s, from affluent families in Guwahati, were working in Mumbai and Goa.

Residents of Panjuri Kacharigaon, a Karbi tribal village about 200 km east of Guwahati, suspected the duo to be khupadhora or child abductors when they stopped to ask for directions. They dragged them out, tied and bludgeoned them to death.

In a video clip of the incident that has fired up the rubes on social media, a profusely bleeding Das is seen pleading with the mob that they were Assamese, not child abductors but to no avail, the paper said.

Karbi Anglong superintendent of police G. V. Siva Prasad said four people have been tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
.

"A police team reached the spot after receiving information of the assault by 200-250 people.

One of the victims had went titzup, while the other died on way to the hospital," he said, attributing the duo’s killing to "a combination of bad circumstances."

The district’s deputy commissioner, Mridul Kumar Mahanta, said the victims should have informed the police before visiting the remote area. Gopal Chandra Das and Ajit Nath, fathers of the two victims, have demanded stern action to discourage lynch mobs.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while ordering a probe into the incident, sought curbs on misuse of social media, The Hindu said.

Saudi Arabia: Houthi missile attack kills three in Jizan
[Al Jazeera] Three civilians have been killed in the south of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
by incoming fire from Yemen's Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels, according to Saudi state media.

Citing military coalition spokesperson Colonel Turki al-Malki, the state-run Saudi Press Agency announced the deaths in Jizan province on Saturday night.

Al-Malki accused Yemen's sock puppets of the Medes and the Persians of firing a projectile that was "launched deliberately to target civilians".

The Houthis, allied with Iran, have fired a series of missiles into the kingdom in recent months, with some hitting the capital, Riyadh.

Florida Didn't Conduct Gun Background Checks for a Year Because an Employee Couldn't Log In

Another story of how government stupidity is everlasting and the fascists want to have it run our lives
The Florida government did not conduct background checks on thousands of applicants for concealed weapons for a year because the state employee was unable to log into the system.

According to a February 2016 investigative report from Florida’s Inspector General, first reported by the Tampa Bay Times, a state Division of Licensing employee identified as Lisa Wilde was unable to log into the system to actually complete these background checks. She never mitigated this issue.
Why bother? Her pay and job are not dependent or her excellence or incompetence at it.
When determining eligibility for purchasing a firearm, applicants must undergo a background check known as the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is administered by the FBI. In Florida, these background checks are used as indicators of eligibility for concealed weapon licenses.

In March 2017 ‐ over a year later ‐ an employee with the Bureau of Licensing realized the NICS records were not being reviewed. The report was issued in June of 2017.
It takes 3 months to generate a report!??!
According to the Tampa Bay Times, applications for concealed weapons permits in Florida at this time-which coincided with the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando that left 49 dead; were at a record high.

The report concluded Wilde as negligent in failing to send over these background checks. The Division of Licensing is housed under the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service. Adam Putnam, the commissioner of that department, is now running for Governor.
That is gonna hurt on the campaign trail

#1  The story is complete bullshit. The woman who couldn't log in didn't complete 365 checks -- once her failure was found out, those were all re-checked, the ones who failed had their permits revoked, and she was fired.

The press is wording their stories as if NO checks were done at all for the entire state, and as if the entire department was aware and OK with it. Why bloggers -- who should know better -- are repeating it is an utter mystery to me.

#3  “Clarification: This story was updated to clarify that Putnam's office did not review the results of background checks for concealed weapons applicants for non-criminal offenses for more than a year.”

It’s not clear from the Tampa Bay story just how the 365 checks relate to the thousands of applications. But upon performing the checks, two thirds of the associated permits were revoked, which seems surprising.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian Army offensive against ISIS turns into war of attrition
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies launched a large-scale offensive against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) forces in the Badiya al-Sham region of southeast Syria last week.

In a matter of days, the Syrian Army and their allies managed to liberate a large chunk of this Islamic State pocket in southern Syria, forcing the latter to retreat to their strongholds along the al-Sweida provincial border.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
these advances were expected at the onset of the offensive, but the real battle is expected to begin in the coming days, as the Syrian Army attempts to capture some important sites in the Badiya al-Sham region.

In order to weaken the Islamic State’s resolve at these sites, the Syrian Army has switched their offensive strategy to one of attrition.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Army’s primary objective at this point is to inflict as many casualties in the Islamic State’s ranks as possible.

Due to their limited resources and manpower shortages, the Islamic State is at the mercy of the Syrian Army troops that have encircled their entire pocket.

With nowhere to go and limited provisions, the Islamic State will have to find a way to avoid casualties and breakout of this large pocket in southeast Syria.

Syria: Regime bombing kills 17 civilians in Idlib
[AA.TR] At least 17 non-combatants were killed Sunday in raids launched by Syrian fighter jets on a hospital and on populated areas in the Idlib province.

According to an Anadolu Agency news hound, the regime warplanes targeted civilians in the cities of Banash, Taftanaz and Ariha, and the villages of Ram Hamdan and Bani Ezz.

The civil defense teams in Idlib reported that the regime targeted al-Nour Children's Hospital in Taftnaz, killing five people, including three children.

The bombing over Taftanaz killed another eight civilians, while two others were killed in a raid on Ariha and two in Banash and Ram Hamdan.

The Civil Defense added that the competent teams transferred the maimed -- the number was not specified -- to medical centers close to the targeted areas.

Idlib, which remains under opposition control, was designated as a "de-escalation zone" -- in which acts of aggression are expressly forbidden -- in May of last year.

China-Japan-Koreas
Failure of Trump-Kim talks will lead to consternation on world stage: Analyst
[PRESSTV] The failure of the upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is bound to cause “consternation” on the world stage given the people Trump has surrounded himself with, says an American analyst.

“So many fear that if the negotiations with Kim do fail, Trump’s reaction is immediate war,” Myles Hoenig, a political expert in Baltimore, told Press TV on Sunday.

“Now that he has removed all the adults from his foreign policy team, having psychopaths like [National Security Adviser John] Bolton and [UN envoy Nikki] Haley will cause great consternation on the world stage,” Hoenig said.

The social rights activist made the remarks in reaction to warnings by some experts about the possible failure of the June 12 meeting in Singapore.

Alison Evans, deputy head of Asia Pacific country risk at IHS Markit, told NBC News on Saturday that a failure was likely to revive higher levels of hostility between the two sides than what the world witnessed last year.
