Israel pulls fighter jets from drill in Alaska amid tensions with Iran
The Israeli Air Force has decided to scale back its participation in the Red Flag exercise in Alaska amid increasing tensions on Israel's northern border.

"In light of the situational assessment by the Air Force it was decided to adjust the planes' participation in the exercise," read a statement by the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, stressing that nonetheless, "Israel's first participation in the Red Flag exercise in Alaska will take place as planned."

According to a statement by Air Force public affairs officer Kitsana Dounglomchan, Israel's Air Force decided not to send F-15 fighter jets to the two-week-long drill, which will run between April 26 - May 11, out of Eielson Air Force base in Fairbanks and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.

"Despite this change, we are looking forward to hosting the Israeli contingent that will be partaking in Red Flag-Alaska 18-1," Dounglomchan was quoted by local media as saying.

The Red Flag exercises take place several times a year bringing together US and international forces for drills on realistic simulated combat situations. A statement released by Pacific Air Forces, the Alaskan Command's higher headquarters which directs the exercise, said that over 60 aircraft "from more than a dozen units" will be taking part in the drill.

Israel regularly participates in US Air Force's main Red Flag exercises at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and the drill in Alaska is meant to offer pilots the opportunity to fly in combat scenarios which involve winter conditions such as snow and ice that Israeli pilots rarely get to drill on in the Middle East

Trump administration dumps another pro-Palestinian shibboleth
[AmericanThinker] So far, there has been little reaction because the change came so quietly. But on Friday, the US State Department issued an important document that refused to conform to the previously mandatory language that paid lip service to political correctness's Palestinian Division. The Times of Israel reports:

The US State Department released its annual report on human rights violations around the world on Friday, and there was at least one discernible difference from past reports: It no longer refers to the West Bank as "occupied."

Whereas previous iterations of the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices had a section on "Israel and the Occupied Territories," this year's document refers instead to "Israel, Golan Heights, West Bank and Gazoo."

While not as visible as moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, this is still very significant. To use the language of Trump-haters, it is "normalizing" Israel's hold on the lands it won in war – the way conquest, especially in defensive wars, works. Poland is not about to give back to Germany the territory that was taken at the end of World War 2. It's Gdansk, not Danzig. And the children and grandchildren of former Deutchlanders of Danzig are bot considered refugees, the way the descendents of Arabs who once lived in the territory that is now Israel claim to be (with a right of "return" to a land they never set foot in).

Nor is the US about to hand over the lands it won from Mexico,as La Raza wants.

War and conquest is how pretty much every nation established itself as sovereign over whatever territory it rules. But for reasons as old as the World's Oldest Hate, Israel is held to a different standard. Except that now, the Trump administration is signaling that it no longer will follow the Israel-only rules, at least in choice of labels. Exactly as it is doing with another phony-baloney Israel-only shibboleth: that one can be born in one country, and yet be a refugee from another country

I want all those people who think Trump is Hitler to explain how this could possibly happen with Hitler in charge.

California School District Says Parents Can't Pull Kids Out Of New LGBT Sex Ed Class
[Daily Caller] A California school district says that parents can’t opt out of a new sex education course that will deal with abortion, homosexuality and transgender issues.

California passed a law called the California Healthy Youth Act in 2015 to promote "healthy attitudes" about "gender [and] sexual orientation." The law is meant to teach students about the "effectiveness and safety of all FDA-approved contraceptive methods" and allow for "objective discussion" about "parenting, adoption, and abortion."

The law also gives parents the ability to opt-out of this education and said that the "pupil" shall not be punished academically in any way if they don’t participate.

However, the Orange County Board of Education has decided that parents don’t have a right to exclude their kids from the class, LifeSite News reports. A memo from the Orange County Department of Education general counsel Ronald Wenkart on March 29 stated that the opt-out provision "does not apply to instruction, materials, or programming that discusses gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, relationships, or family and does not discuss human reproductive organs."

Venezuela Arrests Two Chevron Executives
[PJMedia] As Venezuela suffers through the end stages of socialism, it seems that its government would rather its people starve than give up on its utopian dreams.
"Take one for the team!"
CNBC reports: "Venezuelan Sebin intelligence agents burst into the Petropiar (PDVSA) joint venture's office in the coastal city of Puerto La Cruz on Monday and arrested ... two Venezuelan [Chevron] employees for alleged wrongdoing."

What was the crime? "The executives were arrested after disagreements with their PDVSA counterparts over procurement processes, two of the sources said."

A spokesperson for Chevron acknowledged the arrests, and said the company is working to make sure the employees are safe and to get them released in a timely manner. She declined to comment further.

Business disagreements are not grounds for arrest -- unless you're in a socialist hellhole like Venezuela, where disagreeing with the government makes you an enemy of the people.

Raul Gallegos, associate director with consultancy Control Risks, argued that this will remind companies to never "assume that good relations with PDVSA can last forever due to a common interest in pumping oil."

"The level of corruption in PDVSA, especially under a military administration, can and will trump production logic."

Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano talks politics
[NY Post] Sammy "The Bull" Gravano ‐ who helped James Comey bring down Gravano’s fellow mobsters more than 25 years ago ‐ was surprised to be mentioned in Comey’s memoir, "A Higher Loyalty."

When President Trump told Comey, "I need loyalty. I expect loyalty," the fired FBI director wrote: "The demand was like Sammy the Bull’s Cosa Nostra induction ceremony."

Gravano, 73, in his first interview outside of prison after serving a 17-year sentence for dealing ecstasy, told mob expert Jerry Capeci of GanglandNews.com that there’s nothing wrong with that.

"The country doesn’t need a bookworm as president, it needs a mob boss," Gravano said.

The former hit man, who confessed to his involvement in 19 murders, said Trump has to deal with the leaders of North Korea, Iran and Russia.

"You don’t need a Harvard graduate to deal with these people. These guys are real gangsters. You need a f‐king gangster to deal with these people."

American who went to war for Israel, lost an arm and went back
[NY Post] On January 8, 2009, Miami native Izzy Ezagui was sitting in a tent about a mile from the Gaza Strip. A soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), he was with his unit and awaiting orders for a mission into unpredictable Gaza to retrieve the body of a captain who had been killed by a grenade launcher.

Holding his cellphone, Ezagui had been trying to decide whether to call his mother to tell her about the mission. He’d lied to her previously, saying he was stationed far from the front. Now, with danger on the way, he wondered if it was time to fess up.

At that moment, a 120 mm mortar flew into the tent, landing inches from Ezagui and exploding on impact. The mortar all but separated his left arm from his body.
Impressive.

Israeli secret service Mossad are accused of assassinating a Palestinian rocket scientist
[MAIL] Israel’s spy agency Mossad has been accused of assassinating a Palestinian suspected rocket maker in a drive-by shooting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, earlier today.

A gunman, who was sitting on the back of a high-powered motorcycle, fired at least ten rounds at the victim, Fadi Mohammad al-Batsh, 35, as he walked to dawn prayers on Saturday morning.

Al-Batsh was hit at least four times in the head and the chest died immediately in what Malaysian officials believe was a professional hit.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan: Kabul voter centre suicide attack kills 48 52 57
[BBC] A suicide bomb attack at a voter registration centre in the Afghan capital Kabul has killed at least 52 people, officials say.

The dead include 21 women and five children, killed when the blast hit the queue outside. A further 112 119 people were injured.

The Islamic State group (IS) said it had carried out the attack.

Voter registration began this month for legislative elections which are due to take place in October.

IS's mouthpiece said a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt had targeted the centre, which is in the Dashte Barchi area of western Kabul.

There have already been at least four attacks on such centres since voter registration got under way a week ago.

The legislative elections later this year will be followed by a presidential poll in 2019.

BBC research earlier this year found that the Afghan government had full control over just 30% of the country, with the rest of the country under significant threat from the Taliban, and, to a lesser extent, IS.

Afghanistan's interior minister told the BBC earlier this year that both IS and the Taliban were targeting civilians to provoke people against the government and create chaos.

#6  OK so, some fact's from DailyMail article on this:

- Suspect is 29-year-old Travis Reinking, White male from Morton, Illinois

- Reinking was on the radar of both the FBI and law enforcement out of state 'due to previous interactions'

- He got out of his car, naked, with nothing but a green jacket on, opened fire, then ran to nearby apartment complex where he lived. Then proceeded to put pants on, take off the green jacket, and walk into nearby woods. So only pants on...

- Rampage stopped by James Shaw Jr. who doesn't think himself hero, just saw opportunity to save himself and wrestled the AR-15 from Reinking, then threw over counter. Was treated for graze and minor bullet wound on elbow

- Still two people in Critical condition, one stable, so death toll may rise

Anyone else think this is the 'Authorities' screwing up again?

#11  "Awesome, Dad"
Police identified the gunman as 29-year-old Travis Reinking from Illinois. It’s believed he moved here in the fall of 2017.

Here’s what we know about him so far:

1. He is from Morton, Illinois, but is currently living at an apartment complex called The Discovery at Mountain View near the Antioch Waffle House.

Driver’s license issued in Morton, Illinois
The truck he was driving is registered to him out of Morton, Illinois

2. Metro Nashville Police officials reported that he has had interactions with Morton Illinois Police Department and with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Reinking was arrested by the Secret Service after he was found in a restricted area near the White House in July 2017. He was released.

3. Authorities previously took his guns.

He was later interviewed by Tazewell County, Illinois authorities and the FBI, and his Illinois firearms authorization was revoked. Four weapons were seized by authorities, including the AR-15 used in the Waffle House shooting.

Police received information that the guns were returned to Reinking’s father.

Reinking’s father has acknowledged giving them back to his son.

Two of the four guns remain unaccounted for. (One was found at the scene, and a second was found during a search of his apartment.

#15  James Shaw - Hero. Completely unarmed, goes hand to hand with the guy and takes the rifle getting shot at and grazed in the process.

His quote? "If he's going to kill me I'm going to make him work for it".

Apparently the hero jammed him up when he came into a doorway, where the rifle was unwieldy and got into a rassling contest, which the hero won, tossing the rifle and then getting the hell out of the AO. Went to Church the next morning - and the police did a news conference where they asked him to tell his story.

Here it is:

Good man.

Lessons:

Sometimes a good man WITHOUT a gun is enough.

Criminals are going to get guns no matter how many laws are passed that say they cannot - even if we come and take the guns, they are going to end up with one or more because they don't care about the laws.

Tactically speaking: Don't go into Close Quarters Battle with a Rifle - a pistol is the better weapon. Thankfully the assailant was not well versed in the art of CQB.

North Carolina city bans any training with Israel police or IDF
[Jpost] Durham, North Carolina, has become the first city in the United States to ban training and exchanges between the city’s police department and the Israeli military.

Durham City Council unanimously voted 6-0 to adopt the policy that resulted from a petition by a coalition of activist groups called Demilitarize! From Durham2Palestine which includes Jewish Voice for Peace. The petition to ban any partnership the police might have with the IDF or Israeli police garnered close to 1,400 signatures.

#9  Did a bit of digging: Jewish Voice For Peace

From Wikipedia:
The Anti-Defamation League criticized JVP for what it described as "anti-Israel radicalism" and "questionable tactics" to promote its agenda, describing a 2017 video campaign as "veering dangerously close to repeating anti-Semitic slurs".

(per the ADL) While JVP's activists try to portray themselves as Jewish critics of Israel, their ideology is nothing but a complete rejection of Israel. In May 2008, for example, members of JVP protested many of the celebrations of Israel's 60th anniversary that took place around the country, essentially illustrating that they oppose Israel's very existence.

They are HQ in the well known center of Jewish Culture, Oakland CA. /sarc

Executive Director is "Rebecca Vilkomerson", apparently a descendant of Viking Jews.

Noam Chomsky, the very definition of a self-loathing Jew, is on the board.

It backs the BDS movement, opposes AIPAC, promotes youth groups that heckled Netanyahu, , opposes West Bank settlements.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) identified JVP as one of the top 10 anti-Israel groups in the United States.

The NGO Monitor: "the organization supports or has partnered with groups such as Sabeel, Electronic Intifada, Al-Awda, International ANSWER Coalition, the International Solidarity Movement and Students for Justice in Palestine, all of which label Israel a racist apartheid state, support BDS and, in some cases, support violence against Israelis"

Tides Foundation (Media Matter, People for the "American" Way) is a large contributor - which got 11 million in funding form...

Never Trumper Mitt Romney Forced Into Runoff In UT
Maybe not precisely a 'runoff', but this is far from the impression that it'll be a cakewalk for Romney to become UT's next Senator.
[Salt Lake Tribune] - West Valley City • After 11 hours of political elbowing and shoving at the Utah Republican Convention ‐ held appropriately at a hockey arena ‐ delegates forced Mitt Romney into a primary election against state Rep. Mike Kennedy in the U.S. Senate race.

In fact, Kennedy ‐ a doctor and lawyer ‐ finished in first place at the convention with 51 percent of the vote to Romney’s 49 percent. The former GOP presidential nominee fell far short of the 60 percent needed to clinch the nomination outright.

Harry Truman and the Deep State
[American Thinker] President Donald Trump is not the first president who has had trouble with the Deep State. Harry Truman had a major problem, too, which revolved around the resistance by the State Department and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to his decision to recognize the state of Israel.

In the matter of Israel's recognition, Secretary George Marshall and other high-ranking officials at State and the CIA were adamantly opposed. In a series of contentious meetings as related by Clark Clifford, the State Department argued continually with Truman not to do it. It came to a point where a furious Marshall told the president that if he recognized Israel, Marshall could never vote for him again.

Such arguments are certainly not bad for our democratic form of government. A wise president welcomes and solicits advice and comments from his Cabinet. This is all part of good decision-making. The difficulty came in after Truman formally recognized Israel on May 14, 1948, for that did not end the resistance to his decision.

To his credit, once the decision was made, George Marshall let the president know that he would never agree with it but that he would not oppose it. Not so with the boys in the CIA. As Michael Doran of the Hudson Institute puts it:

#4  Whether one agrees with Truman or not, to undermine his decision was patently wrong. He was the president. And this underhanded resistance was carried out by a CIA that was created just a year earlier by Truman himself as an organization that was to assist the office of the president by merely collecting intelligence, not undermining policy.

Reads a lot like treason.

Effingham County, Illinois becomes 'sanctuary' for gun owners
[Wash Times] An overwhelming majority of board members in Effingham County, Illinois, decided to "flip the script" this week and declare itself a "sanctuary" for gun owners.

Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler and board member David Campbell called a barrage of gun-control bills working their way through the Illinois House and Senate a clear signal that it’s time to "take a stand."

The men joined "Fox & Friends First" on Thursday to discuss a new Second Amendment resolution that passed along an 8-1 vote.

We "decided it’s time for someone to take a hard stand," Mr. Campbell told the network.

The resolution reads: "If the Government of the State of Illinois shall infringe upon the inalienable rights granted by the Second Amendment, Effingham County shall become a ’sanctuary county’ for all firearms."

Mr. Kibler said that Effingham’s move, while "mostly symbolic," was drafted to articulate the high level of discontent among its population.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Wheels of Justice Have Caught Up With McCabe
[Townhall] The Department of Justice Inspector General has officially referred fired Deputy FBI Director for criminal prosecution after revealing he lied multiple times under oath to FBI and OIG investigators. In other words, McCabe is being served up to the U.S. Attorney in Washington D.C. for criminal charges.

Attorneys for government watchdog Judicial Watch, who have sued the Department of Justice over documents related to Andrew McCabe's handling of the FBI's criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton's repeated mishandling of classified information, are saying it's long past time for accountability.

"The wheels of justice finally caught up with McCabe for repeatedly lying under oath to investigators. It’s high time America had some accountability for his misconduct," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton released in a statement. "Judicial Watch uncovered documents about McCabe’s conflicted handling of the Clinton investigation that should have triggered action months ago. Judicial Watch’s finds on FBI and McCabe corruption generated irresistible public pressure for accountability."

"McCabe’s potential criminal acts, on James Comey’s watch, are further proof that both the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations were irredeemably compromised. The Clinton email investigation was a sham and the Trump-Russia investigation is an abuse," he continued. "Unfortunately, the cover-up continues, the Justice Department and FBI are playing shell games and refusing to turn over McCabe text messages in Judicial Watch FOIA litigation."

Salt Lake City bound Beach goes crackers on Delta Flight from London
[MAIL] A rowdy passenger aboard a Delta Airlines flight from London to Salt Lake City has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a US Air Marshal and throwing coffee on passengers.

Sarah Maria Beach, 45, an American expat living in London, faces misdemeanor assault charges which were filed in US district court in Utah on Thursday.

News of Beach’s arrest was reported by KSL.com.

Prosecutors have alleged that Beach threw coffee on passengers during the flight, overturned a drink cart, and ran up and down the aisle of the plane.

Flight attendants asked air marshals who were sitting in the back of the plane to help subdue Beach, according to the criminal complaint.

After Beach calmed down, she was seated next to one of the air marshals, who escorted her to the bathroom three times.

After she came out the third time, she allegedly jumped on the air marshal’s back and grabbed his head, neck, and jaw.

11 Killed in Tijuana in 24 hours ‐ 650 Murdered in 2018
[Breitbart] Cartel violence in Tijuana continues with no end in sight as 11 killings were registered in a 24-hour period earlier this week. The deaths brought the number of homicides to 650 in 2018, according to government statistics as reported by local media. Authorities reported more than 100 homicides during the month of April.

Breitbart Texas previously reported that according to the attorney general’s office of Baja California, most homicides are going unsolved. This has contributed substantially to the current drug cartel violence. Of 132 registered homicides to start 2018, only five resulted in arrests with a total of 11 suspects detained.

This week’s violence began during the early morning hours of Monday, April 16 in the colonia Reforma neighborhood, local news outlets reported. Officials discovered the decapitated corpse of an unknown male, 30-35 years of age.

18 examples of the spectacularly wrong predictions made around the first "Earth Day" in 1970
h/t gates of Vienna
[WattsUpWithThat] In the May 2000 issue of Reason Magazine, award-winning science correspondent Ronald Bailey wrote an excellent article titled "Earth Day, Then and Now" to provide some historical perspective on the 30th anniversary of Earth Day. In that article, Bailey noted that around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970, and in the years following, there was a "torrent of apocalyptic predictions" and many of those predictions were featured in his Reason article. Well, it’s now the 48th anniversary of Earth Day, and a good time to ask the question again that Bailey asked 18 years ago: How accurate were the predictions made around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970? The answer: "The prophets of doom were not simply wrong, but spectacularly wrong," according to Bailey.

Here are 18 examples of the spectacularly wrong predictions made around 1970 when the "green holy day" (aka Earth Day) started:

Arabia
Saudi women spend big on make-up, even if it’s just a glimpse
[DAWN] Green lipstick, blue lipstick and 40 shades of foundation to choose from are just some of the reasons why 18-year-old Shahad al-Qahtani is excited about superstar Rihanna’s make-up line debut in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Rihanna, known worldwide for her chart-topping songs and daring, provocative style, is wildly popular among the Saudi women coveting her new make-up line called "Fenty". Rihanna and other celebrities like Kim Kardashian who experiment boldly with their hair colour, make-up and clothes have become household names in Saudi Arabia, where fans can follow their every move on social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat.

Their styles, however, stand in stark contrast to how most Saudi women dress in public. Many cover their faces and hair with black veils. Women in Saudi Arabia must also wear long, loose black robes, known as abayas, over their clothes in public.

"I’ve tried her brand in Dubai and I came here to buy the things that were sold out there," al-Qahtani said as she selected products to put in her shopping basket from Rihanna’s Fenty line that launched on Thursday in Sephora make-up stores across the kingdom.

Al-Qahtani said she likes to experiment with her style and bold make-up choices at parties and weddings where women are segregated from men.

Even though most women will cover their face and hair in public, make-up sales are one of the biggest spends among Saudi women. This is in part because of the increasing number of Saudi women joining the workforce who now have their own salaries to spend from.

A warehouse in Israel’s south was set aflame Saturday after a kite equipped with a flaming rag that had been intentionally released by Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip landed there.

No casualties were reported, but heavy damage was caused to the warehouse.

Hamas says man gunned down in Malaysia was important member
More on this report from yesterday
[Ynet] Gazoo's ruling Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", hard boy group said Saturday that a man who was bumped off in Malaysia was an important member of the organization, raising suspicions that Israel was behind the brazen killing.

Hamas said Paleostinian engineer Fadi al-Batsh was a "loyal" member and a "scientist of Paleostine's youth scholars." It gave no further details on his scientific accomplishments but said he had made "important contributions" and participated in international forums in the field of energy.

The funeral service by the Islamic movement's hard boy wing, though, suggested al-Batsh was actually one of its military commanders. At a mourning house in the Gazoo Strip, a banner described al-Batsh as a member of the military wing.

Ten masked hard boyz in camouflage uniforms stood in a line outside the tent in Jabaliya, the slain man's hometown, to greet mourners. The ceremony is typical for senior Hamas commanders.

Hamas stopped short of blaming Israel, saying only that he had been "assassinated by the hand of treachery." But relatives of al-Batsh said they believe Israel targeted him.

and a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank mines and other weapons was recovered.

"The dead gunnies were involved in a series of terrorist activities in Dera Bugti and other parts of Balochistan," revealed an official who declined to be named since he was not authorised to speak to the media.

Beyond sense or reason that we execute mentally ill individuals: chief justice
[DAWN] The Supreme Court of Pakistain ‐ acting on a suo motu

notice ‐ on Friday reconsidered the death sentences handed to Kaniz Fatima and Imdad Ali, both death row convicts who suffer from mental disabilities.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and the chief justice took up the matter, with the latter asking how the state can execute mentally ill persons.

"Neither reason nor sensibility allow me to believe that we can execute a mentally ill or disabled person," Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar stated during proceedings, recalling that international legal systems have unequivocally forbidden the execution of mentally ill persons.

The court subsequently formed a five-member bench to examine the matter and rule on it.

It is worth recalling that the Supreme Court had cleared the way for Imdad Ali's execution in October 2016 after ruling that schizophrenia ‐ which Ali suffers from ‐ was a "curable disease".

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
the warrant for his execution was never issued because of severe criticism over the ruling, a new petition from Ali's lawyers and a request for review from the Punjab

Iran's president criticises morality police for violently imposing Islamic dress code
[DAWN] Iran's state TV is reporting that the country's president has criticized the morality police's use of violence against women failing to observe the national Islamic dress code.

Hassan Rouhani's condemnation came after such an incident in Tehran was caught on video and went viral on social media channels.

Rouhani said Saturday that "promoting virtue and preventing vice" the morality police's stated mandate through violence is impractical.

"Grabbing people's collars (to) promote virtue will not work," he said.

Iran's interior minister, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, had ordered authorities on Thursday to investigate the incident.

Lawmaker Tayebeh Siavoshi said Saturday that the female agent involved has been suspended from her job.

In December, Tehran's police said they will no longer arrest women not observing the Islamic dress code imposed in 1979.

And the fleet goes round and round, from ocean to ocean, all over the world, for the next twenty years. That should satisfy everybody. Besides, it's hardly a new idea. Remember Palestine? ...Just one thing: in twenty years there'll be twice as many on board as there are today. What with the heat, and nothing to do... We'll have to build floating camps and attach them to the fleet. Believe me gentlemen, it could go on for a very, very long time! In two generations they won't even know why there's nothing out there but ocean,as far as they can see, or why the deck of a ship is their homeland... That's right, their homeland. Iraqi Yazidis need 10.000 fighters to protect borders with Syria
Sinjar (IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi Yazidi official has said their area west of the country needs thousands of fighters to protect the borders with Syria, predicting hundreds to be incorporated in the Iraqi army.

Xudeda Cuke, mayor of Sanoni, Sinjar, told Ayn AlIraq news website that Sinjar region "needs 10.000 fighters to protect border regions, including Sinjar", adding that "we predict that the government will approve to enroll 300 Yazidis in the police and army forces".

Cuke denied reports that 500 Yazidis have been already enlisted in the official Iraqi forces.

Last week, secretary-general of the Iraqi cabinet, Mahdi al-Allaq, said the government approved to incorporate Yazidi factions in Sinjar into the defenese and interior ministry forces, as well as into the Popular Mobilization Forces.

In March, Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) said in an earlier statement it announced withdrawing from the mainly-Yazidi region of Sinjar, saying it accomplished its mission of protecting the locals from IS bully boyz whose defeat the Iraqi government declared last December.

Afghan Air Force employs more laser-guided bombs against militants

...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
-led Resolute Support Mission said in a short online statement.

The statement further adds that "They’ve conducted more than five additional missions since then. 438th Air Expeditionary Wing continues to provide Train Advise Assist through the Resolute Support Mission resulting in increased progress and self-reliance by the Afghan Air Force."

The Afghan Air Force used the bomb to target a Taliban compound in Farah province last month.

"On March 22, the Afghan Air Force tasked the A-29 squadron to destroy a Taliban compound in Farah. The Afghan attack pilots were equipped with both guided and unguided bombs, and elected to employ the GBU-58 laser-guided bomb to avoid collateral damage," according to a report by Resolute Support Mission.

This comes as efforts are underway to boost the capabilities of the Afghan armed forces, particularly the Air Forces.

"Key pieces that you’re seeing is that the Afghan Air Force itself, one of the more lethal organizations they have, and one that we’re looking to triple in size by 2023, is conducting significantly more air operations in direct support of the ANDSF on the battlefield, to the tune of 500 more sorties this year than they did the year before," said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Lance Bunch, director of future operations, Resolute Support, in a December 2017 presser.

Bunch also noted the Afghan forces conducted their combat operations through 2017 with the lowest level of support from the coalition forces in the 16-year war here, yet has seen some of the most success they’ve ever had.

More specifically, it appears that the Tiger Forces Division will strike ISIS bully boyz from the Yarmouk Camp axis.

Egypt refers 6 alleged members of a Daesh-affiliated group to court for targeting churches, military
[AlAhram] Egypt’s prosecutor-general referred six defendants to the Supreme State Security Emergency Criminal Court on Saturday on charges of creating a ISIS-affiliated terrorist cell.

The defendants were detained in the Nile Delta governorate of Gharbiya after being accused of planning an attack on St Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Mahalla during Christmas celebrations in 2017.

Ammunition, kaboom, and weaponry were also found in the possession of the accused.

The prosecution charged the defendants with a number of crimes, including establishing and joining a terrorist organization in which aims to subvert the law and the constitution.

Defendants are also accused of embracing "takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
" ideologies, which encourage the idea of declaring the ruling as infidel thus legitimizing his ouster.

The prosecution said they were accused of allegedly attacking the members of the armed forces and the police as well as Christian citizens and their churches.

The defendants are also accused of funding the ISIS-affiliated organization that they created.

Initial investigation reports of the defendants show that the cell members have received orders to create an affiliate terrorist group to ISIS in Mahalla to propagate their ideology on the internet.

15 militants killed in anti-jihadist operation in Mali: army
[AlAhram] Fifteen turbans have been killed in an anti-jihadist operation in central Mali, the Malian army said on Saturday, adding that one soldier died and two others were maimed.

The "terrorists" were "neutralised, their weapons recovered and their cycle of violences destroyed" during Friday's mission in the Tina forest in the Mopti region, the army said in a statement.

The army "suffered one death and two injuries".

Mali has seen a resurgence of violence in recent weeks. Last Sunday a UN base in the historic city of Timbuktu was attacked by rocket fire and boom-mobiles, killing one UN peacekeeper and wounding seven others.

Last month the UN Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) expressed "deep concern" over an increase in "serious violations and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
abuses against civilians, including cases of summary execution" in the centre of the country, where jihadist groups are particularly active.

MINUSMA, which has 12,000 peacekeepers in Mali, said it had recorded at least 85 major violent incidents and armed confrontations that resulted in at least 180 civilian victims since the beginning of the year.

The unrest in the former French colony stems from a 2012 Tuareg separatist uprising against the state, which was exploited by jihadists in order to take over key cities in the north.

Although French forces succeeded in removing al-Qaeda-linked groups from places such as Timbuktu, the groups have morphed into more nimble formations operating in rural areas, sometimes winning over local populations by providing basic services and protection from bandidos.

The insurgency has gradually spread to the country's centre, where local grievances are sometimes exploited by radical Islamists in a region awash with guns.

In June 2015, Mali's government signed a peace agreement with some gangs, but other jihadists remain active, and large tracts of the country remain lawless.

Nomadic Fulani people and farmers from the Dogon ethnic group have also engaged in tit-for-tat violence, resulting in deaths.

Dead Gaza teenager ignored mother's warning; IDF to investigate incident
[Ynet] IDF says will thoroughly investigate death of teenager during Friday's border protests, accuses Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, of intentionally endangering youth; teenager Mohammed Ayoub's mother says he slipped out of home to protests despite her pleas: ’He told his aunt to tell me he would be back in an hour.’

Fourteen-year-old Mohammad Ayoub ignored his mother's objections and slipped away to join this week's protest along the Gazoo-Israel border, just hours after Israel's military dropped leaflets in his Gazoo village warning residents to stay away.

A few hours later, the teenager was killed by an Israeli bullet to the head, Paleostinian health officials said.

"He asked his aunt to tell me he would be back in an hour," said his mother, Raeda, who instead buried her son late on Friday.

His death brought to 35 the number of Paleostinians killed since border festivities.

The IDF is working on an ongoing basis to learn operational lessons and to reduce the number of casualties in the security barrier area," the IDF statement said. "Unfortunately, Hamas deliberately and calculatingly endangers civilians. Every week it places young children, teenagers and women, at the forefront of the riots to serve as human shields for the Hamas agenda."

"The IDF has repeatedly warned citizens against approaching the fence and against taking part in violent activities and terrorist attacks. The IDF will continue to act professionally and decisively to protect Israeli citizens and security infrastructures," the statement concluded.

The methods used to carry out terrorist activities and damage infrastructure under the guise of smoke and demonstrations were clearly on display in a photograph disseminated by the army.
Photo can be seen at the link, with circles and arrows pointing out items of interest.
One squad consists of youths igniting security infrastructures, and another squad waits and pulls the damaged object by rope until it is uprooted. They can then proceed to infiltrate Israeli territory in order to carry out attacks in Israel.

Matthias Schmale, the Gazoo director of operations of the United Nations

OPCW confirms visit to site of alleged chemical attack in Syria, Russians find chemical in rebel lab
[ALMASDARNEWS] The OPCW confirmed that a team visited the site in Douma where an alleged chemical attack took place. The Russian Foreign Ministry has voiced concerns about the watchdog’s plans to visit fewer sites and speak to fewer witnesses.

On Saturday the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) confirmed on Twitter that its fact-finding mission team "visited one of the sites" in Douma "to collect samples for analysis in connection with allegations of chemical weapons use on 7 April 2018."

The collected samples will be sent to OPCW’s laboratory in Rijswijk, Netherlands and then "dispatched for analysis to the OPCW’s designated labs," the mission said in a statement.

The watchdog said it would "evaluate the situation and consider future steps including another possible visit to Douma."

The OPCW team departed for the city in Eastern Ghouta 11 days after Damascus sent a formal request to the watchdog to inspect the area, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Such delays in such a resonating case, regardless of the motives, are unacceptable, since not only the Syrian side but the Russian military [stationed in Syria] guaranteed the security of the OPCW team," she stated.

Moscow expects the OPCW to investigate the alleged chemical incident impartially. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the mission’s plans to visit fewer sites linked to the purported attack and interview fewer witnesses raises "serious concerns," Zakharova said. According to the spokeswoman, these plans only "demonstrate the unwillingness to shed light on yet another staged provocation with the use of chemicals, which served as a reason for the missile strike" by the US, UK, and La Belle France.

Chemical substance of hexamine found in Douma laboratory -- Russian MoD

[ALMASDARNEWS] Russian broadcaster VGTRK released video on Friday showing an alleged chemical laboratory in Douma, suspected of belonging to Death Eater group Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
According to Russian Defence Ministry’s military expert on radiation, chemical, and biological protection, Alexander Rodionov, "the specialists from radiation, chemical and biological protection’s corpses conducted extra examination in the chemical laboratory discovered in Douma."

He went on to say that "they discovered a lot of the chemical substance of hexamine that can be used for production of explosives as well as for synthesis of the poisonous substance sarin."

Several Western powers, led by the United States, claimed chemical substances were used by Syrian government forces on April 7. The claim has been denied by Damascus and Moscow, who called the allegations a "fabrication."

On April 14 the US, UK and La Belle France launched Arclight airstrikes against multiple government targets in Damascus as a response to the alleged chemical attack against Syrian civilians.

Tens of thousands of Hungarians in new anti-Orban protest
*Yawn*
[AlAhram] Tens of thousands of Hungarians erupted into the streets in Budapest for a second consecutive Saturday to protest against newly reelected Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The crowd marched through the city to a rally where speakers demanded a non-partisan public media.

Campaigning hard against immigration, the 54-year-old Orban's overwhelming victory April 8 saw his Fidesz party secure around half the vote.

Last Saturday some 100,000 protestors held a protest in Budapest days after Orban's win.
But among criticisms regarding the fairness of the election, observers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation said the campaign was marked by media bias.

As part of sweeping reforms since he came into power in 2010, Orban has turned the public media channels into what his critics call "government mouthpieces".

Many of the demonstrators, most of whom were young, chanted "democracy" and brandished Hungarian and European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
flags.

An organiser, Viktor Gyetvai, 20, told AFP the protest "was not going to change the system overnight"
True.
but was aimed at sparking a "civil movement" to challenge Orban.
But now you’ll have to do without Soros funds, which should make life interesting.
"These are first steps, a sign that there are many Hungarians who want to live in a democracy, with independent institutions, and a free media," said Gyetvai.
Democracies vote. Hungary voted. You lost. This, too, is what democracy looks like. Sorry.
More demonstrations will be held in provincial cities in coming weeks, he added.
Demonstrations after one’s side lost the vote are antidemocratic. Stop being fascists.
Last Saturday some 100,000 protestors held a protest in Budapest days after Orban's win.
Last Saturday 100,000, this Saturday tens of thousands — they’re depleting even faster than the Gazans.
The victory handed Orban his third consecutive two-thirds parliamentary majority and a legislative free rein for the next four years.
Like for Donald Trump, the big cities voted blue, but the rest of the country voted red — and red won overwhelmingly. Naturally, the blue regions find this unacceptable, accustomed as they are to running the country.

ISIS suffers massive losses in southern Damascus as Syrian Army muscles its way forward

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
forces operating in southern Damascus have suffered massive losses since the Syrian Army commenced its ground offensive two days ago.

According to sources, the terrorist group has lost at least 100 fighters killed in action ‐ among them two emirs and five field commanders ‐ over the last 48 hours. No one is yet quite sure just how many have been maimed.

Apparently most of the losses are due to very intense non-stop artillery (including rocket forces) bombardment the Syrian Army and Arclight airstrikes by Russian and Syrian warplanes.

Furthermore, the Syrian Army ‐ supported by allied Paleostinian forces ‐ has managed to advance in southern Damascus, so far capturing the Imam Ali Mosque and all building blocks to its west between the Tadamon and Sidi Maqdad districts as well as the al-Mudjahadeen Mosque in Hajjar al-Aswad district.

Syrian Army continues offensive against IS targets in southern Damascus

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued its offensive against turbans of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL) in southern Damascus, Friday, according to media reports.

Footage shows government forces launching shell and rocket fire against hard boy targets in and around Yarmouk.

The fighting has taken place around the Yarmouk Camp and al-Hajar al-Aswad, an area two miles (3.21 km) from central Damascus, as part of efforts to clear the remaining pockets of IS turbans south of the capital.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Islamist group accuses PA of blocking pro-Caliphate rally
[IsraelTimes] Hizbut Tahrir says Paleostinian Authority acting on orders of 'infidels, occupiers and colonists'

The group accused the PA of acting on the orders of "infidels, occupiers and colonists."
*snicker*
Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
is a pan-Islamist political organization which seeks to re-establish the Islamic Caliphate to resume the Islamic way of life under Sharia law.
I’m shocked. I had no idea the organizational landscape was quite so complex in the West Bank.
In a statement, Hizbut Tahrir said that since the early hours of Saturday morning, PA security forces set up checkpoints at the entrances to Ramallah and al-Bireh and other West Bank cities to stop Hizbut Tahrir supporters from participating in the annual rally to commemorate the anniversary of the destruction of the Islamic Caliphate in 1924.

PA security forces stopped vehicles and searched for people who were on their way to the rally, the group complained.

The Caliphate refers to the political-religious state of the Moslem community in the centuries following the death of Prophet Mohammed. The last Caliphate lasted between 1517 and 1924 under the Ottoman dynasty of the Ottoman Empire.
Hmm.... One would think they’d be getting support for neo-Ottoman Turkey...
The Islamist group, which has only a few thousand supporters in the West Bank, accused the PA of "trampling its own laws" by blocking the rally which, it added, was being held in accordance with Paleostinian law.
In the Palestinian Territories those things called laws are actually mere suggestions. But suggestions are made to be broken, donchaknow.
The PA, it charged, was determined to pursue its "blind bias and war against calls for re-establishing the Caliphate."

Last week, PA security forces used force to break up similar rallies organized by Hizbut Tahrir in Hebron and Jenin.
Huh. I don’t recall reading about that.
The group also accused the PA of suppressing "any voice that calls on the Islamic armies to take action to liberate Paleostine."

Noting that the PA was currently sponsoring the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival, an annual event, Hizbut Tahrir said the PA were like the "people of Lot" who rejected chastity and purity in favor of infidelity and evil. It was a reference to Lot who, according to Islamic tradition, was bestowed as a prophet to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to stop his people from their lustful and violent acts. When the inhabitants refused to listen to him, their cities were destroyed.

"We warn the Paleostinian Authority against its misdeeds, the Islamist group said. "It is living under an illusion if it thinks that it would be able to silence the voice of truth by obeying the orders of the infidels, occupiers and colonists."

Turkey, rebel allies have lost hundreds in Afrin fighting, Erdogan says
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and its Syrian rebel allies have lost "hundreds" of fighters in total since the start of a campaign in northwest Syria three months ago, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday, with the rebels suffering the bulk of the losses.

Turkey and its Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) allies launched the operation, dubbed "Olive Branch" by Ankara, in January and have since swept the Syrian Kurdish YPG from the Afrin region.

Erdogan has previously threatened to push further east, a move that would ratchet up tension in Syria's multi-sided conflict.

"Alongside our 56 deaders, the FSA army had hundreds of deaders," Erdogan told Turkey's NTV in an interview broadcast live.

Turkey sees the YPG as an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), considered a terrorist group by the United States and Europe. The PKK has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey's largely Kurdish southeast that has left some 40,000 people dead.

Syrian Army seizes entire brigade of tanks and other armored vehicles from rebels in E.Qalamoun, rebel emir joins fight against ISIS
[ALMASDARNEWS] Following the complete capitulation of rebel forces in Syria’s eastern Qalamoun region, the Syrian Army has come into possession of an entire brigade worth of main battle tanks and other armored vehicles.

Virtually all of the captured armor comes from the Brigade 559 base which was taken over by Lion of Islam groups in 2014.

Unfortunately for the rebels, they simply did not have enough men and technical specialists to maintain anymore than a fraction of the entire mechanized loot in frontline service at any one period in time.

Much of the armor was hidden in caves and makeshift storage sights within the mountains of eastern Qalamoun.

In line with the surrender deal for eastern Qalamoun, over fifty armored vehicles ‐ mostly T-55, T-62 and T-72 main battle tanks but also including support vehicles like Shilkas ‐ have now been returned to Syrian government forces; even more amazingly, this includes plenty of spare parts and ammunition, which was also preserved.

Leading military commander of Qalamoun-based rebel group joins Syrian Army to fight ISIS

[ALMASDARNEWS] A leading military commander of the Ahmad Abdo Martyrs Brigade (Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
affiliate) has defected to government forces following the rebel group’s surrender in eastern Qalamoun.

The commander in question is Ali al-Sheikh. His defection has been mimicked by dozens of other fighters and NCO-rank field leaders belonging to the Ahmad Abdo Martyrs Brigade.

According to sources, Ali al-Sheikh and fellow defectors represent Qalamoun-based rebels who have refused to be evacuated to northwestern Syria, instead choosing to settle their situation with the Syrian government and fight alongside the Syrian Army against Islamic State

It is expected that many other myrmidon commanders and fighters from eastern Qalamoun will also follow this same example for the exact same reason in the days to come.

India moves to instate capital punishment for child rape
[DAWN] The Indian government signed off on an emergency executive order in a cabinet meeting to introduce capital punishment for child rapists, NDTV reported on Saturday.

The ordinance, proposed by the Indian Home Ministry, was signed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a Union Cabinet meeting held hours after he returned from a five-day international tour.

The move comes in the wake of massive outcry over the government's inaction against the rising number of rape cases, the most recent of which receiving international condemnation, was the gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua city of Indian-held Kashmire.

According to NDTV, the government also signed an order allowing the assets of economic offenders fleeing the country to be confiscated.

Examples abound.

Sindh government expands security blanket to counter Supreme Court orders
[DAWN] In a bid to not let the province's set security protocols be affected by the Supreme Court's orders, the Sindh government on Saturday added several new categories to the list of personnel entitled to police security.
You ain't a big shot unless you're followed around by a squad of muscle paid by The Little People.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday had directed the inspectors general of police of the four provinces and Islamabad to immediately withdraw security provided to unauthorised persons.

Subsequently, Sindh Inspector General Police A.D Khowaja had ordered the immediate withdrawal of security protocol provided to influential individuals not entitled to official security.

Police sources told Dawn that more than 5,000 police guards had been withdrawn when the home department on Saturday issued a new notification, adding at least 10 more categories to the list of personnel entitled to security, effectively countering the chief justice's orders.

DIG West Amir Farooqi confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said that he along with his detained accomplice "have given all details about the incident and the motive behind it".

"We are waiting for [the results of the] DNA tests before we can officially confirm the involvement of the said persons in the case," said the DIG.

Two other coppers familiar with the case told Dawn that during initial investigations the held suspects identified the place and the police also recovered some missing belongings of the victim girl from there.

They said that the family of the dear departed girl had nominated three suspects and it was believed earlier that they did so over some enmity.

On April 14, the nominated suspects stormed a house in Baloch Para of Orangi Town and beat residents over some matrimonial dispute.

They said that a woman, Nawabzadi, was married to the brother of one of the suspects and she was also a cousin of the victim girl’s father.

The expulsion of Algeria-born El Hadi Doudi back to his home country came after his appeal with the European Court of Human Rights was rejected earlier this week.

Doudi, 63, had long been on the radar of Marseille police, who considered him an "authority" on Salafist interpretations of Islam, a Sunni branch which demands a strict conservative lifestyle.

While a majority of Salafists

The Riyadh police spokesman, quoted by the official Saudi News Agency (SPA), said a security screening point noticed the flying of a small unauthorized recreational drone at 7:50 p.m. local time (1650 GMT), leading security forces to deal with it according to their orders and instructions.

There were no casualties, and King Salman was not at his palace at the time, a senior Saudi official told Reuters.

“The king was at his farm in Diriya,” the official said, naming another area of the capital.

Amateur footage circulating earlier on social media showed loud gunfire that lasted for at least 30 seconds, leading to speculation online about a possible coup attempt in the world’s top oil exporter and questions about the whereabouts of the king and crown prince.

One video showed two police cars parked in the middle of a dark street. Reuters was unable to independently verify the videos’ authenticity.

Asked about the footage, the official said the drone had been shot down, and added that the government would introduce regulations for the use of recreational drones.

#2  I don’t think you jumped the gun, newc dear. It’s clear from the posts there that the original concern was a revolt against the young crown prince, a concern that has been mentioned here from time to time. There has to be resentment among the old guard, not only for his ascension but for the humilities he imposed on them by demanding huge payments for their so-called corruption — ransoms, really — his demand that they give up power and responsibilities, and his loosening of social restrictions with even more planned.
