Trump golf club reportedly fires illegal immigrant workers
"Muchas gracias, estupida puta! You had to open your boca!"
[NYPost] Longtime employees of the Trump National Golf Club in Westchester were reportedly fired en masse last week ‐ for being in the US illegally.

The move came as the government was in the throes of a partial shutdown while President Trump demanded funding for a border wall that, he said, would keep out illegal immigrants.

About a dozen chefs, housekeepers and waiters got the axe Jan. 18, they told The Washington Post on Saturday, for providing fake Social Security numbers and green cards when they were hired as long as 15 years ago.

The club was the site of a 2016 speech in which President Trump, still a candidate at the time, promised to crack down on illegal immigration. He said they harm workers who are US citizens.

"We are making a broad effort to identify any employee who has given false and fraudulent documents to unlawfully gain employment," Eric Trump, who is running his father's businesses with his brother Don Jr., told the Washington Post.

The widespread employment of undocumented immigrants is why "my father is fighting so hard for immigration reform," Eric Trump said.

"The system is broken."

The firings at Trump's Westchester club follow a similar purge at the family's Bedminster, N.J., golf course last year in the wake of reports of undocumented employees on its staff.

Experts Fear Terror Group Consolidating Power in Syria
[VOA] WASHINGTON ‐ As Turkey and Russia are discussing ways to stabilize war-torn Syria, a U.S.-designated terror group in northern Idlib province has been consolidating power, with some experts warning the group, if left unchecked, might grow stronger and complicate an already difficult situation.

Last week, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an al-Qaida-affiliated group, was able to take over large swaths of land in Idlib by pushing a rival rebel group, the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement, out of the area.

Fighting between the two groups lasted several days before a deal was reached, forcing the Zenki Movement, operating under the umbrella of the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberation (NFL), to dismantle itself and transfer hundreds of its fighters to the Afrin region where the NFL is based.

Some experts see the development as an effort by HTS to consolidate power in northern Syria.

"HTS minimized competitions from other rival groups in the area, absorbs fighters who are more ideologically inclined with HTS, and HTS will use this to demonstrate to the Syrian population that it is the most legitimate group operating in Idlib, making it even more difficult to dislodge," Colin Clarke, a senior research fellow at the Soufan Center, a New York-based think tank, told VOA.

Clarke added that HTS might be aiming for the "Hezbollah model" in Syria, trying to morph into a well-equipped militia with a political wing.

Venezuelan military official breaks with Nicolas Maduro, backs opposition
[DW] Jose Luis Silva, a key Venezuelan military official, has stepped down as defense attache in the US and thrown his weight behind opposition leader Juan Guaido. The military could play a crucial role in the current crisis.

Venezuela's defense attache to the United States, Colonel Jose Luis Silva, broke with President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday and said he supported opposition leader Juan Guaido (pictured above).

Guaido, the 35-year-old leader of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, declared himself interim president on Wednesday in the most direct challenge to Maduro's authoritarian presidency to date.

Venezuela allows US diplomats to stay, defusing showdown
[Stars and Stripes] CARACAS, Venezuela ‐ Venezuela defused a potential showdown with the United States, suspending a demand that U.S. diplomats leave the country as Washington called on the world to "pick a side" in the South American nation's fast-moving crisis.

Socialist President Nicolas Maduro broke relations with the United States on Wednesday after the Trump administration and many other nations in the region recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as Venezuela's interim president, a move that Maduro called a coup attempt.

Maduro gave U.S. diplomats three days to leave the country, but the Trump administration said it wouldn't obey, arguing that Maduro is no longer Venezuela's legitimate president. That set the stage for a showdown at the hilltop U.S. Embassy compound Saturday night, when the deadline was to expire.

But as the sun set on Venezuela's capital, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying Maduro's government was suspending the expulsion to provide a 30-day window for negotiating with U.S. officials about setting up a "U.S. interests office" in Venezuela and a similar Venezuelan office in the United States. The U.S. and Cuba had a similar arrangement for decades before the Obama administration restored diplomatic relations with the communist-run island.

The State Department did not confirm the Venezuelan government's account, reiterating only that its priority remains the safety of its personnel and that it has no plans to close the embassy.

Migrant detained at US-Mexico border had flesh-eating bacteria
[NYP] A man among a group of migrants detained in a desolate part of New Mexico near the Mexican border has a flesh-eating bacteria.

The man was taken to a hospital recently after telling a federal agent that he had a growing rash on his leg, Border Patrol spokesman Carlos Antunez said Friday.

The rare condition, called necrotizing fasciitis, spreads quickly and can be fatal, but is unlikely to spread to others.

The bacteria usually gets into the body through a minor cut or scrape and can cause a serious infection that can destroy muscle, skin and other tissue.

Palestinian reconciliation: A cul-de-sac?
The unofficial governmental view from Egypt.
[AlAhram] Tactics aimed at separating the West Bank from Gazoo are no longer restricted to the topographic, as was the case when Israel closed the "safe corridor" between them two decades ago.

Political and economic "safe corridors" have also been closed one by one, thanks to measures taken by the Paleostinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah and Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, in Gazoo.

Foremost among these measures are the freeze in the reconciliation process, the withdrawal of PA officials from the Rafah crossing, and the dissolution of parliament followed by Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

It's probably going to be a cluseterfuck. Leave aside the fact they're basically using slave labor to build the stadiums (many of which will never be used again)- they're going to schedule a lot of games in early mornings before the temperatures hit 100 F, and worst of all - they're doing the games not in the summer but late fall, which will hugely fuck up normal league schedules worldwide. Way to go, assholes.

Europe
Germany rolls up refugee welcome mat to face off right-wing threat
Berlin (CNN)Nearly four years after almost 1 million refugees were welcomed into the country, Germany has quietly been closing the window on asylum applications and ramping up deportations.

This trend has continued even as the number of people arriving in Europe has dropped 80% since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, according to the UN.

On Wednesday, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announced that in 2018 Germany received about 185,000 asylum applications, a drop of 17% from last year, and far fewer than the 2015 peak of 890,000.

"We now have the problem under control. We have put things in order," said Seehofer. "We offer protection for people who are vulnerable. However, the population will only accept asylum rights if we can repatriate those who don't need to be protected.''

Seehofer proudly stated that the number was well within the "upper limit" to migration agreed by Germany's coalition government.

Progressives Announce Plan To Resume Lecturing You On Morality After They're Finished Applauding Murder Of The Unborn
[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐The nation's progressives announced Wednesday they will resume lecturing you on morality after they're finished applauding a new law allowing more babies to be murdered that was passed in New York yesterday.

"Usually we like to lecture people to do better at following our movement's ever-shifting moral compass every day," said one woman in Manhattan. "But we'll take the day off so we can spend a few minutes and celebrate this great new law that lets mothers kill their babies without consequence."

"I mean, more easily than they already could, of course," she quickly added.

Progressives stated they would be lecturing you on topics ranging from social and economic justice to climate change and fracking. But most of all, they'll be focusing on lecturing you on healthcare, especially for the nation's babies and children.

"Oh yeah, we're gonna go all-in on talking about how compassionate we are, pushing for healthcare for all," said one man in Austin, Texas. "We're the true pro-lifers, advocating for other people to pay for your healthcare. But first, I'm gonna take the day and loudly celebrate this most recent decision allowing more unborn babies to be murdered. Tomorrow, I'll get around to the lecture."

Roger Stone's SWAT team arrest: Are we even America anymore?
[American Thinker] After news broke of the pre-dawn raid on Roger Stone's home Friday morning in Florida by twenty-nine heavily-armed agents in nineteen vehicles, lights flashing, CNN serendipitously on hand to film the raid, millions of us realized once and for all that we are no longer living in the America we knew and loved.

Those same millions of us have known for over two years that the Mueller "probe" is a huge and well orchestrated cover-up. There are now at least two books, Gregg Jarrett's and Dan Bongino's, and well researched investigative articles that prove this beyond doubt.

Mueller was appointed by Rod Rosenstein not to investigate Trump collusion with Russia. The principals all knew that was not remotely true. He was appointed to conceal and obliterate the volumes of evidence of crimes committed by Hillary Clinton; her campaign; and a group of higher-ups in the FBI, DOJ, and CIA, all of whom were involved in a scheme to prevent Trump from being elected. All of them have lied under oath and before Congress. Mueller himself was involved in the Clinton scheme to sell 20% of U.S. uranium to Russia.

All of these felons are walking free; their homes are not being raided in the wee small hours of the morning, but their crimes are far more serious than anything Roger Stone or Paul Manafort might have committed.

That such an aggressive show of force could be visited upon a non-violent person accused of alleged verbal crimes is truly frightening. That so many in the media are celebrating the use of such a Gestapo tactic is horrifying. Suddenly, it is catastrophically clear that America is no longer a constitutional republic, a nation of laws and justice. An unelected, tangential officer of the DOJ has for two years abused his position of power to destroy many lives in the cruelest of ways with impunity. No one is stopping him and his band of legal bullies.

Dershowitz on Mueller move against Roger Stone: 'Trump is the target'
[Washington Examiner] Robert Mueller is trying to force Roger Stone to "flip" and incriminate President Trump by indicting the veteran Republican operative on charges that leave him facing the prospect of dying in jail, according to Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz.

"The obvious purpose of indicting him on these obstructing and false statement charges is to put pressure on him to flip. That's the goal," said Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor emeritus.

"Will he flip? Nobody knows the answer to that. Michael Cohen said he would take a bullet for the president, and he's become his opponent," he said. "[Stone] said recently he would never cooperate and testify, and I take him at his word. But when he's told by his lawyer that he's facing essentially spending the rest of his life in prison, you never know what people will do."

Stone, arrested in a dramatic FBI raid before dawn on Friday, has vowed not to turn against Trump. But the 66-year-old operative now faces a long sentence if convicted of five counts of making false statements, one count of witness tampering, and one count of obstruction of an official proceeding.

Dershowitz said more than a decade behind bars is likely if Stone’s convicted on all counts. "If you do them consecutively rather than concurrently, it's probably more than 10 [years] and he's no youngster. You're talking about dying in prison," he said.

Cong. Mark Meadows: If Obama could send money to Iran, Trump can find money to build the wall
[Washington Examiner] House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said Saturday that if President Barack Obama could send money to Iran as part of the 2015 nuclear deal, President Trump should be able to find money to build the wall along the southern border without being blocked by the courts.

"Listen, if President Obama can send $1.8 billion to the Iranians ‐ I can tell you I didn’t appropriate that ‐ certainly finding a few billion dollars for border security on our southern border is something that this president can do legally and without a challenge," Meadows told Fox News in an interview.

Trump announced Friday that a deal to temporarily end the partial government shutdown, which then was in its 35th day, had been reached. The agreement included no money for a wall along the southern border, as the president has demanded, but reopened shuttered agencies through Feb. 15.

Republicans and Democrats have until then to negotiate a broader immigration deal, in which Trump wants to include wall funding.

The president said that if a deal cannot be reached, he would declare a national emergency to circumvent Congress and build the wall.

#2  According to the USAID website, the US government between 2009 and 2016 dished out approximately $3.3 billion to Mexico in foreign aid. Those were the years when Baraq was in office. That figure does not include Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua. Stop all that nonsense and you'd have a significant down payment on the wall. As I said before, Democrats squander $5.7 billion every morning before breakfast. It's not the money that's stopping them.

"This 3-week period is meaningless!" – Mark Levin weighs in on Trump reopening the government
[Right Scoop] Mark Levin commented on Trump reopening the government today, saying that the three-week period is meaningless.

Levin argued that the problem Trump has right now is that Republicans in the Senate are peeling off from him.

But right now he’s not concerned about this three-week period. He’s concerned about the bottom line.

Levin says if Trump goes for amnesty, "I’m out. I will be a critic."

But, he adds, "if the president is fighting to secure the wall, I’m prepared to wait three weeks and see what happens."

Yellow vest protestors block Parisian streets for 11th week running
[Mail] Violence erupted in France for the 11th Saturday in a row today as thousands of so-called Yellow Vest protestors demonstrated against President Emmanuel Macron's government.

It came two days after the head of state had accused British politicians of 'tearing society apart' by allowing a Brexit referendum in Britain, but today the chants in his own country were for his resignation.

The worst early violence was in Paris, and in northern towns including Evreux and Rouen, in Normandy, where tear gas and baton charges were used by police to restore order.

The Real Mission Of The Democrats And RINOs
h/t Gates of Vienna
[NewsWithViews] From the moment democrats fooled black Americans into thinking that was the political party for them, it has been down hill ever since. As much as I despise the evil philosophy that political party promotes, I point out their ability never waiver from their malicious goals. From the beginning, the democrat party stood for oppression of one kind or another. Of we all know about the Democrat party leaders historic hatred of blacks, especially the men and like Muslims only saw them as slaves or to be denied a decent life. Then of course there was Jim Crow and the Eugenics practices. The democrat party hits just kept coming through various cruelties, lies and horrendous political practices.

The democrats remind me of a plague of evil that circulates throughout different locations and brings nothing but a lowering of living, moral, economic, governmental, educational, religious and even entertainment standards. In the United States, wherever democrats have a long term stronghold, the standard of living deteriorates much faster than by any other organization or cause. Yes, there are the George Soros’s of the world and other enemies of the United States working to destroy our beloved republic. But truth be told, if those enemies did not have such a good friend in the democrat party, they would be obscure entities, not the major threat to America they are today.

...Bottom line is, the democrat party is a very dangerous institution consisting of members, both old and young who are out to undermine our nation by infiltrating everywhere and destroying her from within. What they have done to the American black community they seek to do inflict upon our entire republic.

"If Roger Stone was indicted for lying to Congress, what about the lying done by [James] Comey, [John] Brennan, [James] Clapper, Lisa Page [and] lover, [James] Baker and soooo many others? What about Hillary [Clinton] to FBI and her 33,000 deleted Emails? What about Lisa [and Peter Strzok’s] deleted texts [and Anthony Weiner’s] laptop? Much more!" Trump wrote Saturday.

L.A. Times Continues Its Attacks on LAPD Officers, Decrying Racial Disparities in Police Stops
"Jack Dunphy" - always a good read!
[PJ] Gentle readers, we return today to a topic that has become all too familiar: the Los Angeles Times and its eagerness to discredit law enforcement, most especially the Los Angeles Police Department.

On Thursday, the Times published a news story under the following provocative headline: "Stop-and-frisk in a car:' Elite LAPD unit disproportionately stopped black drivers, data show." Coming in at more than 2,500 words, the story decries the perceived racial disparity among the drivers stopped by a specialized unit of LAPD officers. Regular readers of the Times are accustomed to such stories, just as they are to the paper’s willingness to ignore relevant facts so as to advance the notion that minorities in Los Angeles are unduly put upon by the police.

In advancing this notion, Times writers Cindy Chang and Ben Poston resort to well-worn techniques, presenting what to the untrained reader seems to be a straightforward analysis of the data, then bolstering it with the opinions of purported "experts," anecdotes from people who claim to have been victimized, and references to long-ago events.

The LAPD officers under scrutiny are assigned to Metropolitan Division, or Metro, an elite unit that includes SWAT and the mounted detail, but whose primary function is crime suppression. In an effort to stem a rise in violent crime, in 2015 the LAPD doubled the size of Metro, whose officers ride in unmarked cars and do not handle radio calls or perform other routine police duties. Their mission is to patrol those areas of the city most affected by crime and conduct vehicle and pedestrian stops on people who may be connected to it. And this is where they have aroused the suspicions of the Wise Ones at the Los Angeles Times.

#3  In writing this, Chang, Poston, and their editors display a willful blindness to the reality of crime in Los Angeles, which is that criminals are not proportionally represented across all ethnic groups. This naiveté, displayed so consistently in the Times for so many years, can only be deliberate, for we are told in Mr. Poston’s bio that appends the story that he is a “data journalist,” whom we might presume to have competence in the analysis of data.

Most Radical Environmental Group In America Now Controls The Beef Industry
h/t Gates of Vienna
[NewsWithViews] The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is one of the top three most powerful, radical, anti-free enterprise, UN environmental groups in the world.

And WWF has succeeded in taking over the American Cattle industry!

The WWF has forced cattlemen to follow radical Sustainable rules through the establishment of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef.

They are getting away with this industry grab because the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is now under the control of the World Wildlife Fund.

And the WWF’s Sustainable Roundtable now controls the beef packing industry which in turn controls the entire beef retail market. Cattlemen either toe the WWF dictates or are cut out of the industry.

That means cattlemen must follow massive regulations in order to produce American beef.

These rules ignore that fact that American cattlemen have always produced the highest grade of beef in the world ‐ simply by using a process that has been used by their forefathers for generations.

The real result of these rules isn’t to produce a better beef product ‐ but to destroy small producers and drive the industry to the massive corporate farms that can afford to play ball with the World Wildlife Fund.

Eventually, the WWF goal is to destroy the entire beef industry.

Thanks To Trump, China's Economy Is Rapidly Decelerating
h/t Instapundit
[HotAir] By adopting a tough stance on trade with Beijing, President Trump was able to expose the weakness of China’s economy and demonstrate that its growth is far more fragile than it appears. In fact, the tariffs began worrying China’s elite last summer ‐ a clear sign that Beijing was unprepared to cope with Washington’s pressure.

This week, President Xi Jinping even assembled the country’s top leaders, warning them of "serious dangers" and "tests" that will face the ruling Communist party. "The party is facing long-term and complex tests in terms of maintaining long-term rule, reform and opening-up, a market-driven economy, and within the external environment," Xi said, striking a tone of urgency and concern about the regime’s future.

Meanwhile, Chinese lawmakers have been rushing through a new law designed to alleviate American concerns about intellectual property rights and forced technology transfers, something that President Trump has made a top priority.

John 'Tig' Tiegen's New Foundation Goes to Great Lengths to Help Veterans In Need
[Townhall] John "Tig" Tiegen, one of the men who survived the fatal attack in Benghazi on September 12, 2012, appeared at SHOT Show 2019 to promote his nonprofit, Beyond the Battlefield The Tiegen Foundation. A court recently decided that multiple Obama State Department officials must answer Judicial Watch's questions surrounding Benghazi. Naturally, I wanted to know how Tiegen felt about the situation.

"I don't think they're going to be truthful anyways. I mean, they've already lied before," Tiegen told Townhall. "Even though they say, 'Well, now they're testifying under oath.'"

According to Tiegen, he believes those State Department officials who know what truly happened in Benghazi, will more than likely plead the fifth.

"I don't think they're going to be open and honest. That's just their track record. That's how they've always been," Tiegen explained. "When they know they're going to be screwed over they get to plead the fifth."

No one can blame Tiegen for thinking nothing will come out of these questions. After all, we've gone years without any kind of truthful account of what happened. The officials in charge aren't afraid of seeing jail time. They clearly don't have any remorse for what took place back in 2012. If they haven't told the truth this far, they have no incentive to do so now.

Coulter: ‘No question' Pelosi outplayed Trump
[The Hill] Conservative firebrand Ann Coulter late Friday continued to blast President Trump's decision to end the 35-day partial government shutdown without securing funds for a border wall, saying he was outmaneuvered by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

"We thought, ’Hey, maybe this guy’s wacky enough, he won’t care what the elite say, and he’ll build the wall.’ That was what put him in the White House. He has got to build the wall," Coulter said on Los Angeles radio station KNX.

"There’s no question but that Nancy Pelosi got the better of Donald Trump."

Coulter on Friday afternoon called Trump "the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States" after he announced that he would support reopening the government with obtaining funds for a border wall.

The immigration hard-liner has repeatedly pushed Trump to immediately start construction on a wall and she said shortly before the shutdown began in December that she would not vote for Trump again in 2020 without a border wall.

#7  Nancy Pelosi did come out ahead, at least in the short term. But she had a far stronger hand, controlling the branch of government that initiates and has final say over finance bills. The President can't force Congress to finance anything. That's just how it works. Taking it further would have been a good thing, in my opinion, because it would have readied the country for a talk on how we need to get government out of all of the stupid and controlling activities it is in, but it would have given everybody in the country a lot of short term pain because the government has wormed its way into controlling so many productive industries in this country. Even new freaking beer labels have to be approved by the government. As long as the conversation was going to stay about the wall and not about how much government we have, we couldn't beat Nancy Pelosi with the hand we had been dealt.

[Breitbart] Actor Vincent Curatola, who starred as Johnny ’Sack’ Sacramoni in the classic HBO series The Sopranos, lamented the growth of "politically correct" attitudes in America, offering his remarks in a Friday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Marlow invited Curatola’s comment on the suffocation of creativity in the arts via "political correctness."

"One of the things that’s so striking to me ... is the political correctness age we’re in now, which is bigger than ever," said Marlow. "Comedians have to watch what they say. You can’t even have a villain saying bad things, at this point. And so your characters, you guys ripped each other about your weight, about your noses, about your wife’s as. I mean, it was brutal, but it was also real and it was wildly entertaining. Your character wielded a cigarette like it was nobody’s business, and it’s one of those things where having a cigarette ‐ smoking ‐ is worse than being a murderer, at this point. Speak to that."

Bombs kill at least 19 20 outside cathedral in southern Philippines
[IsraelTimes] Attack during Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel occurs on Jolo island, long troubled by Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
terror organization.

Two bombs went kaboom! outside a Roman Catholic cathedral on a southern Philippine island where Moslem bandidos holy warriors are active, killing at least 19 people and wounding nearly 50 during a Sunday Mass, officials said.

The first bomb went off in or near the Jolo cathedral in the lovely provincial capital, followed by a second blast outside the compound as government forces were responding to the attack, security officials said.

Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde said that at least 19 people died and 48 were maimed. Police and military reports said the casualties included both troops and civilians.

No one has immediately grabbed credit.

The attack came nearly a week after minority Moslems in the predominantly Roman Catholic nation endorsed a new autonomous region in the southern Philippines in hopes of ending nearly five decades of a separatist rebellion that has left 150,000 people dead.

Although most of the Moslem areas approved it, voters in Sulu province, where Jolo is located, rejected it. The province is home to a rival rebel faction that’s opposed to the deal as well as the Abu Sayyaf group, which is not part of any grinding of the peace processor

Courtesy of Besoeker, the BBC is updating as information comes in. As of 4:45 a.m. ET:
The first blast happened as Sunday Mass was being celebrated at the church on Jolo island, where Islamist militants are active.

As soldiers responded, a second device was detonated in the car park.

The local officials say the first blast happened at 08:45 local time (00:45 GMT) inside the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which has been hit by bombs in the past.

The second explosion was shortly afterwards on the doorstep of the church.

Local police initially put the death toll at 27 but later lowered it to 20, saying there was double counting in earlier official reports.

Most of the victims are civilians.

The referendum was the result of a peace deal between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Given the numbers involved with this kind of violence, it seems like the general Muslim population should know who the bad guys are. How often are they reported before they cause problems? How many of these reports are acted on? On the other hand it always comes out after the fact as "I had no idea!" But all his cousins did.

Coalition strikes kill 42 in IS Syria
[DAWN] Coalition missile strikes have killed 42 people including 13 civilians in what remains of the krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group's last holdout in eastern Syria, a war monitor said.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, with backing from a US-led coalition, are battling to expel the last murderous Moslems from hamlets in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said short-range missiles late on Friday hit homes on farmland near the village of Baghouz, killing 42 people.

Among them were 13 civilians, the Britannia-based monitor said. They included seven Syrians linked to the IS including three children from the same family, as well as six Iraqi non-combatants, it said.

The coalition was not immediately available for comment.
"I can say no more!"
but has in the past said it does everything to avoid targeting civilians.

"The area is a launchpad for krazed killer counterattacks," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

The SDF have since September been battling to expel IS from their last pocket of territory on the eastern banks of the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor. The SDF has advanced swiftly in recent weeks, taking control of a series of key villages, with IS scrambling to retaliate.

On Thursday, the IS failed to retake Baghouz from the SDF in one counterattack that left a total of 50 fighters dead on both sides, the Observatory said.

YouTube promises to stop promoting misleading videos
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] If you believe the world is flat, don’t count on YouTube recommending videos supporting your theory.

That’s because YouTube is promising to stop promoting so many sensationalistic clips that revolve around scientifically proven falsehoods and other suspect information, such as conspiracy theories revolving around the US government’s involvement in the 9/11 attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center in New York.
or Global Warming Climate Change?
YouTube, part of Google, announced its de-emphasis on misleading videos Friday.

It’s the latest example of a widely used digital service trying to stop the spread of misinformation as politicians scrutinize the role that technology companies play in distributing potentially toxic propaganda. Both Facebook and Twitter are trying to take similar steps.

The misleading videos will remain on YouTube, even after they are phased out from its recommendation list.

EU says it could recognize Guaido as president of Venezuela
[ELUNIVERSAL] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
(EU) as a whole said on Saturday it could recognize the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Juan Guaidó, sworn in as interim president of the country, if the current government does not announce new elections in the coming days.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said in a statement that the European bloc will intensify contacts with its international allies "in the coming hours" on the Venezuelan crisis.

The EU urgently called for new elections, saying that Venezuela's presidential vote last year was not democratic.

Mogherini said that "in the absence of an announcement about the organization of new elections with the necessary guarantees in the coming days, the EU will take new measures, including the question of recognition of the country's leadership."

Moments earlier on Saturday, the governments of Spain, La Belle France, Germany and Britannia set a deadline of eight days for the Venezuelan Nicolás Maduro to call new presidential elections.

The position of Europeans opens a new front in their tensions with Russia, which strongly supports Maduro.

Two youths killed by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir
[DAWN] Indian troops killed two Kashmiri youths in the Khonmoh area of Srinagar, Kashmire Media Service (KMS) said on Saturday.

Clashes between Indian police and residents of the area erupted in the aftermath of the killings, when Indian police used force to disperse demonstrators who had come out on the streets to protest.

The killings took place on India's Republic Day, which is observed as Black Day by residents of Indian-Indian Kashmiree and Azad Jammu and Kashmire.

The call to observe India's Republic Day as Black Day was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), that is led by Syed Ali Gillani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik
...chairman of one of the two factions of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. JKLF is a Kashmiri nationalist organization founded in Birmingham, UK in 1977. Branches weren't actually established in Kashmir for another ten years. It has the usual demands for separation of J&K from secular India so it can become an independent Islamic rathole. It seems to have no interest in Pak Kashmir breaking away to join it. In 1994 Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from that point he and his organization pursued peaceful means to impose their will on the region...
, the KMS said. The JRL leaders said in a statement that India had "no justification" to observe Republic Day in held Kashmire as the territory had been "illegally occupied" against the wishes of Kashmiri people.

Kenya asks UN to finance Somalia war against Shabaab
[CAPITALFM.CO.KE] Kenya has urged the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
to finance the continental counter-terrorism mission in Somalia, arguing that this will stop the country from falling back to al-Shabaab

Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba said there was need to plug funding gaps and boost counter-terrorism efforts.

"The promotion and maintenance of peace and security in the world is the primary mandate of the United Nations," Mr Namwamba told a gathering of diplomats from the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...

in Brussels on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) continues to suffer insufficient and unpredictable funding," he added

Kenya, Æthiopia, Uganda, Djibouti and Burundi have jointly contributed troops to the 22,000-strong force, initially meant to last only six months in 2007, but which is still engaged in a dogged fight with the terrorist group.

With 3,664 soldiers in Amisom, Kenya has previously called for more predictable funding for Amisom. This request comes barely two weeks after the DusitD2 attack in Kenya’s capital Nairobi in which 21 people were killed in which al-Shabaab took responsibility for the attack.

(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) holy warriors in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate after they scored a small advance against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) east of the Euphrates.

According to a military report from Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army targeted the Islamic State’s poorly established positions at the town of Baghouz Fouqani, hitting some launching pads used by the terrorist group to fire across the river.

The Islamic State recently reentered Baghouz Fouqani after losing this important town to the Syrian Democratic Forces.

ISIS is trying to expand their pocket eastward in an attempt to lift the pressure off their forces inside the town of Murashida.

Should this counter-offensive fail, this will likely be the last time the Islamic State will be on the attack in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

All of Israel within range of Syrian missiles: ex-SAA general
[ALMASDARNEWS] A former general from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told Sputnik Arabic on Saturday morning that all of Israel is within range of Syria’s guided missiles.

"Syria’s missiles enjoy high capabilities and have been stockpiled in large numbers as a deterrence against a massive war in the Middle-East region," General Reza Shariqi told Sputnik Arabic.

In a jab at Israel’s air defenses, Sharqi told Sputnik Arabic that Syria’s missiles could overwhelm their Iron Dome system.

"Our strategic missiles can reach any target in the occupied territories," he continued.

General Shariqi said that Syria has stockpiled its missiles in secret places to remain safe against the Israeli attacks.

The Syrian general’s comments come just days after Syria’s Ambassador to the United Nations

FAES executed 5 young people in Lara
[ELUNIVERSAL] In 24 hours the group of Special Actions Forces (FAES) executed 5 young people in the municipalities of Morán and Torres of Lara State, for participating in the peaceful demonstration held on January 23 in those municipalities, in addition to the rest of the country, denounced the leader of Causa R, Alfredo Ramos and member of Frente Amplio Lara.

Ramos said that among those killed in El Tocuyo were two minors identified as Cristian Alejandro Ramos and Anderson Torres Cortés, while the third was the latter's brother José Alfredo Cortez, 27 years old.

The incident occurred, he said, on Friday, January 25, in the El Bosque de El Tocuyo sector when a command made up of officials of that security agency, as witnesses informed of the incident, penetrated the house where the brothers at the same time that they did the same in the house of the other minor.

The brothers knelt in the living room of their home and took the mother from the place, while the younger Christian Cortes surprised him when he was in front of his computer and took him to the house where the two brothers were and right there they executed.

These young people are accused of being involved in the supposed attempt to arson the house of the mayor of the municipality of Morán, Gisela Rodríguez and the theft of Mercal from the area on the night of January 23.

CALICANTO MUNICIPALITY TORRES

On the other hand, 24 hours earlier in the municipality of Torres in the Calicanto sector of Carora, Luis Enrique Ramos Suárez, aged 29, suffered the same fate, was taken from his house by FAES troops who raided his home and appeared with a gunshot. in the chest, also presenting blows to the face and body.

Witnesses of the facts through social networks asked for help and support. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the police report indicated that the dear departed was "a dangerous delinquent" known as "Cabeza de pineapple," who resided in the Jacobo Oropeza neighborhood of Calicanto.

Ramos would be involved in the crimes of kidnapping, armed robbery, sale of drugs. The FAES troops after an investigation work managed to locate him and Ramos was confronted resulting in maimed in the site and died in the health center where he was transferred.

EXTERMINATION GROUP

The political leader blamed the government for having created an extermination group that together with the collectives do the work, as the chain of command of the military and security agencies of the State "is broken."

He noted that the youth of El Tocuyo, apparently, were hired by members of the PSUV to generate chaos during the day of the opposition and try to cause some damage to the house of the mayor in order to accuse the opposition.

The order to shut them up came out, "he said," from the Lara state government. While the events of Carora were due to the participation of the two victims in the peaceful demonstration called for that day.

The repression is in the street, only in Lara there are more than 30 detainees, as confirmed by the regional president. For this reason, "we call on the Armed Forces to put themselves on the side of the Constitution and the people and thus recover the prestige and respect that Venezuelans had before them."

"Guaidó, current interim president of the Republic, has been magnanimous and humble calling for the transition of our country in peace," he said.

Algeria's main Islamist party to run in presidential poll
[PULSE.NG] Algeria's main Islamist party, the Movement for the Society of Peace, said Saturday it has decided to take part in April's presidential election.

During the night of Friday to Saturday "the consultative council decided by an overwhelming majority to take part in the presidential election and to present Dr Abderrazak Makri as the party's candidate," the MSP's head of communications Abdellah Bouadji told AFP.

Presenting itself as Islamist and moderate, the MSP had supported ageing incumbent President Abdelaziz Bouteflika

within a governing alliance, before going its own way in 2012.

Bouteflika, 81, who uses a wheelchair and has rarely been seen in public since a stroke in 2013, is due to complete a fourth term in office on April 28. The election is set for April 18.

Despite his advanced age and poor health, some of Bouteflika's supporters have called for him to stand for a fifth term.

But the president himself is yet to make his plans clear.

By law, would-be candidates have until March 4 to register with the constitutional court.

Ahead of the last presidential election in 2014, Bouteflika only declared his intention to run a few days ahead of the deadline.

Rep. Maxine Waters facing new legal questions over campaign mailers
[FOXNEWS] Rep. Maxine Waters
U.S. Representative for California's 43rd congressional district, serving since 1991, a total of 27.155548964211473 years. A member of the Democratic Party, she is the most senior of the 12 black women currently serving in the United States Congress, is a member and former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. Before becoming a member of Congress she served in the California Assembly, to which she was first elected back when Disco was in flower, in 1976, which would make it 42.153495576121124 years. She has been a politician for virtually all her adult life. If she was brighter she'd be a Communist...
'>Comrade Maxine Waters took the helm of the Financial Services Committee this month after easily winning re-election as part of the Democrats’ House takeover. But according to the Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Democrat’s post-election filing ‐ which has prompted fresh calls for a full audit ‐ her campaign may have some financial issues of its own to sort out.

The Citizens for Waters report to the Federal Election Commission from Dec. 11 lists $183,022 in debt to her daughter Karen Waters, who is in charge of distributing "slate mailers."

The mailers have faced scrutiny since 2010 because the campaign, beginning in 2004, has paid Waters’ daughter or her public relations firm Progressive Connections to produce, print and mail the sample ballots. Watchdog groups have raised questions about the propriety of campaign funds financially supporting a family member, as well as Waters raising contributions in excess of federal limits through an unusual process. Since 2004, the campaign has paid the younger Waters almost $1 million, based on previous news reports.

...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's command in Sabha, southern Libya, several rustics and elders in the city had issued a statement rejecting the presence of those force.

The elders and rustics in Sabha called in the televised statement on Friday for the release of the kidnapped and the return of the robbed and looted belongings of the residents, adding that they should apologize for the assaulted family in their house.

"The Presidential Council, Attorney General, and international organizations should interfere to save the fabric of the society in the city. In addition, the command of the forces in southern Libya and Sabha should explain under whose command the brigades, which did all the crimes in the city, are." The statement explained.

Social media circulated footage showing the house of Abdelmajid Othman Madi from Sabha being assaulted, meanwhile; Haftar's forces has reportedly begun arrest campaigns of opponents and opposition to Haftar in Sabha.

The house and family of Madi, who is a member of "Libya Tribes Council," were attacked and the family members were verbally assaulted, let alone robbing their belongings.

Madi is a Qadaffy loyalist, and he appeared before in video rejecting the entry of Haftar and his forces to the south.

Guaidó: We will not go to elections that do not have the conditions and real guarantees

he said he was willing to meet "with any official who wants the cessation of the usurpation, the transitional government and free elections."

"They will not stop us, for false dialogues we will not lend ourselves and least of all for unconditional elections," he said.

He asserted that several European countries have already communicated with him and said that they will support the entry of humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

He also said that from today "the process of asset protection begins so that the money from Venezuela is not stolen."

Kurdish protesters seize several Turkish tanks after soldiers abandon base
[ALMASDARNEWS] Kurdish protesters stormed the Turkish military’s headquarters inside the Dohuk Governorate town of Shiladze, today, prompting the latter to abandon their positions at the base. During the storming of the Turkish military base, the Kurdish protesters managed to take hold of several tanks after setting many vehicles on fire.
Al Ahram adds:
The crowd was demonstrating over a recent Ottoman Turkish air raid that killed four civilians, a Kurdish official in the region of Dohuk said.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
's Defence Ministry wrote on Twitter: "An attack has occurred on one of bases located in northern Iraq as a result of provocation by the PKK terrorist organization. There was partial damage to vehicles and equipment during the attack."

Without naming the base, the ministry said "necessary precautions are being taken regarding the incident."

Ottoman Turkish officials could not be reached for further comment.

Turkey carries out regular air raids near the border against the PKK Lion of Islam group which has bases in northern Iraq and has fought a decades-long insurgency in Turkey.

A second Kurdish official, who also did not give his name, said Ottoman Turkish troops at the camp in Shiladze, east of Dohuk, had initially shot at the protesters and then left the camp.

Kurdish security forces are trying to control the situation, he said.

Blasphemy lawyer returns to Pakistan to aid in Bibi appeal
[PULSE.NG] Saif-ul-Malook fled to the Netherlands from Pakistain in November last year after violent protests erupted over the Pak Supreme Court's decision to overturn the conviction of Asia Bibi, who was on death row.

Pakistain's Supreme Court will decide on Tuesday whether to allow an appeal against Bibi's acquittal, lawyers in the case have said.

Christian Union party parliamentarian Joel Voordewind tweeted a picture of himself and Malook saying "this afternoon (Saturday) I escorted Asia Bibi's lawyer, Mr Malook to Schiphol airport."

"He's going back to Pakistain to hopefully represent Asia for the last time in her case," Voordewind said.

The Netherlands last year granted Malook a temporary stay, but Voordewind said Malook will "unfortunately lose his asylum status in the Netherlands."

The allegations against Bibi date back to 2009, when Moslem women accused her of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed, a charge punishable by death under the colonial-era legislation.

Her case drew the attention of international rights groups and swiftly became the most high-profile in the country.

If the court refuses to allow the appeal, it will remove the last legal hurdle facing Bibi, who is a prime target in conservative Moslem-majority Pakistain and remains in protective custody.

Bibi was on death row for eight years for blasphemy, a hugely sensitive charge.

Colorado Teacher, Union Leader Misidentified ‘Hitler Youth': Family Demands Answers
[ConservativeDailyPress] A Colorado teacher has been placed on leave after incorrectly doxing a "Hitler Youth" who was not involved in the ambush by Native American and Black Israelite protestors.

In Colorado, a history teacher and union leader decided to target a child for retribution, but she was the one who got punished.

The Douglas County, liberal ’do-gooder’ outed the wrong student. In social media posts the teacher doxed a student who wasn’t even in D.C. at the time of the Covington Catholic High School incident.

During the Walk for Life event, while catholic students were peacefully standing in line for their bus, groups of liberal ’protestors’ ambushed them. Although the students showed remarkable restraint in the face of these adult attacks, carefully edited video caused outrage against the kids.

When full video of the incident was finally reported, the damage had already been done by leftists who jumped on the mob-bandwagon, calling for the death and dismemberment of those students.

One such hater, who is supposed to be an example to students, rushed to ’dox’ one of the boys involved, but got it wrong.

In a now-deleted Twitter account, to Mountain Ridge Middle School teacher Michelle Grissom, incorrectly identify the student, and called that misidentified student a member of the ’Hitler Youth.’

The actual High School student who was attacked by liberals that day was Nick Sandmann.

Grissom has since been placed on leave from teaching impressionable children, and has resigned from her position on the teacher’s union.

Many people ask what sort of warped and twisted freak would do something like this to a child.

DougCo Schools spokeswoman Paula Hans stated, "Michelle Grissom is currently on leave," and principal Shannon Clarke told parents in a Wednesday e-mail. "Please understand that I am unable to share specific details, as this is a personnel matter."

One day earlier, Clarke acknowledged the school was informed of the situation.

"I have been made aware of comments on social media that involve a member of the MRMS community," Clarke told parents Monday. "We are addressing this situation, as appropriate."

"Grissom is a member of the executive board of the Douglas County Federation, the teachers union representing DougCo educators. Kallie Leyba, president of the Douglas County Federation, declined to comment on the online comments.

"When asked, Leyba said the union’s executive board members did not need to remain employed by the district, as the board also includes retirees."

A WordPress blog created Monday called for Grissom’s termination "for her role in the attempted doxxing and mob persecution of an underage boy."

Doxxing is the new way to create violent persecution of anyone the left in the country deems undesirable, and provides the name, address, and other information about the target so that liberals can harass that person.

The blog archived screenshots of the tweets attributed to Grissom, along with posts of the father of the falsely-maligned student.

Dr. John Jackson told reporters that he only created the posts after nothing was done by the school district or the school to have the teacher remove the posts.

Jackson explained that such action could have serious consequences for his family.

"It wasn’t my son, he wasn’t even in D.C.," Jackson said. "He was very shaken and upset. He feared that his future could be negatively impacted by having his name and picture associated with Hitler and the events in D.C."

He added, "We were shocked and disappointed when nobody from the school district reached out to us," Jackson said. "We feel like this is a serious offense and would like at least some form of acknowledgment and apology."

The Jackson family already has an offer of legal representation from Colorado-based attorney Nicolle Martin. She represented Masterpiece Cake baker Jack Phillips, protecting his religious freedoms.

Qatar to reportedly halt payments to Hamas
[ALMASDARNEWS] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
said Saturday it will no longer fund salaries of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", employees in Gazoo but will still give aid to poor families, after the Paleostinian enclave’s Islamist rulers refused to accept wage payments over conditions allegedly attached by Israel.

We "will not pay the salaries of the Hamas employees", Qatar’s ambassador to the Gazoo Strip Mohammed al-Emadi told AFP on Saturday.

An informal deal between Israel and Hamas in November had seen Qatar agree to send $90 million (80 million euros) through six monthly payments to Gazoo, in exchange for relative calm along the Israeli border, which has been rocked by often violent Hamas-backed protests since March 2018.

The first two monthly payments of $15 million were disbursed and went mainly to paying salaries of around 40,000 Hamas civil servants, while around a third of each monthly payment helped impoverished Gazooks.

But the deal became a major bone of political contention in Israel ‐ whose territory is used for delivery of the cash ‐ and also in Gazoo.

"The tension was very high on Hamas ... internally and on the Israeli government the tension also was very high from the opposition," Emadi told AFP in Gazoo.

Emadi said his country would still donate the remaining $60 million in aid it has committed, but mostly through United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
programmes instead.

"Both sides are relieved now; totally relieved, and it is much better" this way, he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was criticised by political rivals over the deal.

Last week Israel’s premier temporarily blocked the funds after a flareup on the frontier.

El Aissami described as "repudiable" and "insensate" the position of Spain
[ELUNIVERSAL] The vice president of the Economic Area, Tareck El Aissami, described as "repudiable" and "insensate" the position of Spain, where the president of that country, Pedro Sanchez, gave an ultimatum to President Nicolás Maduro to organize elections "free" or otherwise recognize Juan Guaidó as the person in charge of the Venezuelan Executive Power.

"REPUDIABLE and insensate the position that has assumed the government of Spain. Again @sanchezcastejon like Aznar in the coup d'état against Comandante CHÁVEZ, pretends to justify, in an irresponsible way, the UNJUSTIFIABLE. We thought there was nothing worse than RAJOY ... ", published El Aissami, through his Twitter account.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, Cynthia backed into the galley, the barbecue fork held in front of her.

the official front man related the assertions made by Sanchez to the actions of the former head of the Spanish government, José María Aznar, who is accused by his association in a coup d'etat against the late Venezuelan ex-president Hugo Chavez in 2002.

So far, at least four countries in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
have indicated that they give "eight days" to the national government to be organized presidential elections with international backing and to manifest "the will of the people", otherwise, the president of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, will be recognized as the interim president of Venezuela, when affirming that the deputy can take the country to said elections.

NAF Alpha jet destroys terrorists’ hideout in Kaicungul, Borno
[PULSE.NG] The Nigerian Air Force says its Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, has destroyed a Lions of Islam hideout and neutralised some of them at Kaicungul, a settlement about 100Km North West of Monguno, in Northern Borno.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, said the operation was carried out on Friday.

The operation was conducted on Jan. 25, on the heels of credible intelligence indicating that the village was being used as a staging area from where the Lions of Islam assembled to launch attacks against our troops locations.

The ATF therefore detailed an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform for confirmatory surveillance of the location, which observed significant Lions of Islam activities in the settlement.

Accordingly, two Alpha Jet aircraft were scrambled to attack the hideout.

The two aircraft took turns in attacking the location, recording successful hits on the target, leading to the destruction of some of the structures as well as the neutralisation of some terrorists, Daramola said.

DR Congo rebels surrender in welcome for new President Tshisekedi
[PULSE.NG] Six hundred Congolese rebels whose conflict killed several thousand people in the restive Kasai region, have ended their war and surrendered their weapons in a sign of support for new President Felix Tshisekedi, local authorities said on Saturday.

Tshisekedi was sworn in on Thursday as president of Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, marking the country's first peaceful handover of power after chaotic and bitterly disputed elections.

Wearing red bandanas, the gunnies surrendered AK47 rifles, hunting shotguns, machetes, knives, arrows and various amulets to the Kasai-Central provincial authorities, an AFP correspondent said.

"These 600 gunnies responded to our appeal for peace. We have a new president and we should all support him. We call on those who are still in the bush to also hand over their weapons," said local governor Denis Kambayi.

Authorities estimate around 1,700 militia fighters were operating in the area.

Around 50 rebel recruiters from Kasai region surrendered to authorities earlier this month after welcoming Tshisekedi's presidential election win.

Several thousand people were killed between 2016 and October 2017 in four provinces during an insurgency by the Kamwina Nsapu (Black Ant) militia, named after a leader killed in a security force operation in August 2016.

"We have handed over our weapons because for us the war is over. The people have taken power with the election of Felix Tshisekedi, so for us there is no more justification for war," said Raphael Kabeya, a local militia commander, told AFP.

Kamwina Nsapu was a tribal chieftain who opposed the Kinshasa government and his rebels battled government forces and the pro-government Bana Mura militia.

Beyond a corpse count which UN sources put at some 3,000 -- including two UN experts sent to investigate the conflict -- the rebellion displaced around 1.4 million people.

Kabeya called on a rival militia Bana Mura to also surrender their weapons and end fighting as part of a reconciliation.

Another militia group also surrendered in neighbouring Tshikapa region, witnesses told AFP.

Militia tensions in the central region and fighting in the country's troubled east were among the complications in December's elections to replace President Joseph Kabila that were marred by repeated delays.

Tshisekedi on Friday turned the spotlight on human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
in his first day in office after succeeding Kabila who was in power for 18 years.

He has vowed to release all political prisoners swiftly and moved to reconcile with other candidates in a sign of hope in a country that has been chronically unstable since its independence from Belgium in 1960.

India-Pakistan
Senate panel not satisfied with police answers on Sahiwal killings
[DAWN] The Senate Standing Committee on Interior was on Friday not satisfied with the answers provided by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Amjad Javed Saleemi to questions regarding the alleged extra-judicial killings of four people, including three of a family, in Sahiwal by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The parliamentary panel met with Senator Rehman Malik
Pak politician, Interior Minister under the Gilani government. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Nawaz Sharif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men. He had to give up the interior ministry job because he held dual Brit citizenship.
in the chair.

Home Secretary Fazeel Asghar told members of the committee that the driver of the car, Zeeshan Javed, was a terrorist. He said Zeeshan was the main target and that a photograph of the car was taken before the operation which showed two people sitting in the front seats of the car. He said the rear of the car was not clear in the picture due to the luggage.

Only 14 of the 42 questions asked by the committee were answered in writing by the Punjab police, who avoided answering the trickier questions till the finalisation of the investigation by the joint investigation team (JIT).

The IGP said CTD had played a significant role in breaking terrorist networks as there has been a significant decrease in terrorism incidents after the formation of the force in 2015.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
he said, the Sahiwal incident "has broken our backbone" and that everyone should wait till the finalisation of the JIT report.

The police’s record, presented before the committee, shows that no criminal case was registered against the passengers in the car, including Zeeshan, who was described as a terrorist by the home secretary.

The committee chairman said it needs to be made clear if Zeeshan Javed was radicalised and if so, evidence of his involvement in terrorism, if he was ever nabbed
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
for such acts and if he was ever tried for them or put under notice.
