[CHRON] Sen. Wendy Davis is raising money with the stars in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,.
Her Republican opponent for governor, Attorney General Greg Abbott, is making political hay of it back home.
Director Steven Spielberg is among the hosts of the "celebration and fundraiser honoring Davis" on the rooftop of the Bad Robot in Santa Monica, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,. Besides Davis, it benefits Battleground Texas, dedicated to making Texas competitive for Democrats.
The tab for hosts is $25,000, while contributions range down to $1,000 at the "friend" level.
The Abbott campaign put out a video Star Wars-themed slam on the trip that begins with the words on the screen, "A short time ago, in a liberal land far, far away..."
"A candidate for Texas governor rubbing elbows with gun-grabbing, ObamaCare-promoting, tax-raising Hollywood elites? It sounds like the plot of a sci-fi fantasy film, but when it comes to Sen. Wendy Davis, it's a reality show," said Abbott communications director Matt Hirsch. "As she heads to a glitzy fundraiser in Los Angeles with celebrities tonight, it's official; Sen. Davis has gone Hollywood."
Davis, a Democrat in an uphill race for governor, must raise money from outside of as well as within Texas to compete in a state where her party long has been shut out of statewide office.
There was a time when Texas was yellow dog Democrat. But then that malaprop George W. Bush took the re-election away from Governor Ann Richards, and the world changed.

Elections in the early days of Texas got down and dirty, opponents were accused of being drunks or hog thieves. But in modern terms "has gone Hollywood" is definitely a disgusting label since "JR Ewings Dallas" tee vee show went off the air.

At this point Wendy's sole chance to be governor requires a martial law declaration from Obama before the election. So it could happen. When I cancelled my subscription to Chron, I told them I was tired of 'the wonderfulness of Wendy'. The lady said they're hearing that a lot.

[NORTHJERSEY] It's been a year and a half since gun control supporters began pushing for a new 10-round limit on the capacity of gun magazines in New Jersey. They've held rallies, lobbied politicians and brought parents of Sandy Hook Elementary School victims to Trenton over and over again.
On Thursday, the bill made it out of the Legislature after its supporters won a 44-34 vote in the Assembly. It now heads to Governor Christie's desk, where it faces an uncertain future as the Republican governor positions himself for a possible presidential run.
"This has not been without heartache," Assemblyman Lou Greenwald, D-Camden, said at a news conference Thursday as he was flanked by two Sandy Hook parents.

(New section) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection j. of N.J.S.2C:39-3, a retired law enforcement officer who is authorized to possess and carry a handgun pursuant to subsection l. of N.J.S.2C:39-6 may possess and carry a large capacity ammunition magazine which is capable of holding up to 15 rounds of ammunition that can be fed continuously and directly into a semi-automatic handgun.
23. (New section) Notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S.2C:39-6, a law enforcement officer may possess and carry while on duty a large capacity ammunition magazine and possess and carry while off duty a large capacity ammunition magazine which is capable of holding up to 15 rounds of ammunition that can be fed continuously and directly into a semi-automatic firearm.2"
From H.R. 218, S. 1132, and H.R. 4310:
"Am I [Federal, State, Local law enforcement] also exempt from State laws prohibiting the possession or use of high capacity magazines?
No. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has ruled that State and local laws and regulations applying to magazines do apply and the exemption provided by LEOSA applies only to firearms and ammunition. "

I have never understood this magazine capacity business. Magazines are cheap and it takes but seconds to swap one for another. Less if you simply drop the old one on the floor.
Are people under the general impression that once a magazine is empty, the weapon must be returned to the factory for a reload?

That might be their next step SteveS. I wouldn't put it past them. Well people still die with 9 or less rounds. Better make it so they can't exchange 'clips'. (yea I know there is a difference between clip and magazine).
What it is, is a small step toward their goal - confiscation. They don't really want to actually solve the problem of so-called 'gun violence' - they just want to exploit it to put more and more people under their thumb.

I have never understood this magazine capacity business.
The US Constitution has been viewed as an obstacle by progressives. Control the guns and you control the people. But our founding fathers showed their brilliance by crafting the 2nd amendment as a check against just the sort of tyranny the progressives would like to impose.
But then the US Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller held in a 5-4 decision that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution applies to federal enclaves and protects an individual's right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
Not to be deterred, the progressives went after ammunition sales but there are numerous problems in trying to regulate something as fungible as ammo. Which leads you to limits on magazine capacity. Just chip-in away.
