Afghanistan
Pepe Escobar: China, Russia are stage-managing the Taliban
[AsiaTimes] Beijing, Moscow are working overtime to scrub the Taliban's 'terrorist' label and endorse it as a legitimate political movement

The first Taliban press conference after last weekend’s Saigon moment geopolitical earthquake, conducted by spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, was in itself a game-changer.

The contrast could not be starker with those rambling pressers at the Taliban embassy in Islamabad after 9/11 and before the start of the American bombing — proving this incarnation of the Taliban is an entirely new political animal.

Yet some things never change. English translations remain atrocious. Here is a good summary of the key Taliban statements. These are the key takeaways:

— No problem for women to get an education all the way to college and to continue to work. They just need to wear the hijab, like in Qatar or Iran. No need to wear a burqa. The Taliban insist "all women’s rights will be guaranteed within the limits of Islamic law."

— The Islamic Emirate "does not threaten anyone" and will not treat anyone as enemies. Crucially, revenge — an essential plank of the Pashtunwali code — will be abandoned, and that’s unprecedented. There will be a general amnesty, including people who worked for the former NATO-aligned system. Translators, for instance, won’t be harassed and don’t need to leave the country.

— The security of foreign embassies and international organizations "is a priority." Taliban special security forces will protect both those leaving Afghanistan and those who remain.

— A strong inclusive Islamic government will be formed. "Inclusive" is code for the participation of women and Shiites.

— Foreign media will continue to work undisturbed. The Taliban government will allow public criticism and debate. But "freedom of speech in Afghanistan must be in line with Islamic values."

— The Islamic Emirate of Taliban wants recognition from the "international community" — code for NATO. The overwhelming majority of Eurasia and the Global South will recognize it anyway.

It’s essential to note, for example, the closer integration of the expanding Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) — Iran is about to become a full member, Afghanistan is an observer — with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The absolute majority of Asia will not shun the Taliban.

For the record, the Taliban also stated that it took all of Afghanistan in only 11 days: that’s pretty accurate. They stressed "very good relations with Pakistan, Russia and China."

Yet the Taliban don’t have formal allies and are not part of any military-political bloc. They definitely "won’t allow Afghanistan to become a safe haven for international terrorists." That’s code for ISIS/Daesh.

On the key issue of opium and heroin, the Taliban say they will ban its production.

As eyebrow-raising as these statements may be, the Taliban did not even get into detail on economic and infrastructure development deals — as they will need a lot of new industries, new jobs and improved Eurasian-wide trade relations. That will likely be announced later.

What this first press conference reveals is how the Taliban are fast-absorbing essential PR and media lessons from Moscow and Beijing, emphasizing ethnic harmony, the role of women, the role of diplomacy and deftly defusing in a single move all the hysteria raging across NATOstan.

The next bombshell step in the PR wars will be to cut off the lethal, evidence-free Taliban-9/11 connection;
Evidence-free? His memory is worse than mine.
thereafter the "terrorist organization" label will disappear and the Taliban as a political movement will be fully legitimized.

Moscow and Beijing are meticulously stage-managing the Taliban’s reinsertion in regional and global geopolitics. This means that the SCO is stage-managing the whole process: Russia and China are applying consensual decisions that have been taken in SCO meetings.

The key player the Taliban are talking to is Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special presidential envoy for Afghanistan.
Of course they are. Diplomats talk to the government, no matter how disreputable that government might be.
In yet another debunking of the NATOstan narrative, Kabulov confirmed, for instance, "we see no direct threat to our allies in Central Asia. There are no facts proving otherwise."
Which is why Russia is just finishing practice maneuvers in the Afghan border.
The Beltway will be stunned to learn that Zabulov has also revealed: "we have long been in talks with the Taliban on the prospects for development after their capture of power and they have repeatedly confirmed that they have no extraterritorial ambition, they learned the lessons of 2000."
Despite those reassurances, they’ve also recently spoken about expanding Islam to the rest of the world. Which one is true?
Zabulov reveals plenty of nuggets when it comes to Taliban diplomacy: "If we compare the negotiability of colleagues and partners, the Taliban have long seemed to me much more negotiable than the puppet Kabul government. We proceed from the premise that the agreements must be implemented. So far, with regard to the security of the embassy and the security of our allies in Central Asia, the Taliban have respected the agreements."

These contacts were established "over the past seven years."

Faithful to its adherence to international law, and not the "rules-based international order," Moscow is always keen to emphasize the responsibility of the UN Security Council: "We must make sure that the new government is ready to behave conditionally, as we say, in a civilized manner. That’s when this point of view becomes common to all, then the procedure [of removing the qualification of the Taliban as a terrorist organization] will begin."

So while the US/EU/NATO flee Kabul in spasms of self-inflicted panic, Moscow is practicing diplomacy. Zabulov adds: "That we have prepared the ground for a conversation with the new government in Afghanistan in advance is an asset of Russian foreign policy."

Meanwhile, Dmitry Zhirnov, Russia’s ambassador to Afghanistan, is working overtime with the Taliban including a meeting with a senior Taliban security official on Tuesday. The meeting was "positive, constructive ... The Taliban movement has the most friendly; the best policy towards Russia ... He arrived alone in one vehicle, with no guards."

Both Moscow and Beijing have no illusions that the West is already deploying hybrid war tactics to discredit and destabilize a government that isn’t even formed yet and hasn’t even started working. No wonder Chinese media is describing Washington as a "strategic rogue."

What matters is that Russia and China are way ahead of the curve, cultivating parallel inside tracks of diplomatic dialogue with the Taliban. It’s crucial to remember that Russia harbors 20 million Muslims and China at least 35 million. These will be called to support the immense project of Afghan reconstruction and full Eurasia reintegration.
Chechens and Uighurs? Pull the other one, that has bells on it!

#1  I agree with most points made in the article except the false dichotomy between masochistic submission and genocide of the enemy.

There were many options available (both miltary and political) that would have restored Western deterrence by being sufficiently punitive well short of being genocidal.

#6  So true, the word from the frontline door smashers. Very moving too, that bit about being needed again, if a little sad. I doubt men like Austin and Biden's loon troupe will ever let America retain its effective deterrence.

But worse than that America has a regime problem and needs to focus on the domestic.

Israeli Publication Slams Biden Over Afghanistan, Issues Warning Americans Need to Hear
[Western Journal] In the midst of the Vietnam War, during one of the many moments when America was potentially set to betray the South Vietnamese side, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger warned that if we did, "the word will go out to the nations of the world that it may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal."

Kissinger’s warning would prove prophetic when Vietnam eventually fell; at the time, it was a major setback in our struggle against the Soviet bloc. Over a quarter-century since the USSR self-destructed, our enemies are more diffuse — even if one, China, looms large.

In one of America’s closest friends, Israel, one publication is sounding the alarm over whether a fatal decision has been made.

In the wake of Afghanistan’s fall, The Jerusalem Post — a centrist publication that’s one of the Jewish state’s oldest newspapers — published an analysis piece that questioned America’s dedication to its allies in the Middle East.

"After Afghanistan, the US will have to reassure allies and partners that it will remain somewhere in the world," the Post’s Seth J. Frantzman wrote in the Sunday piece. "As American officials speak about ’forever wars’ and wasting ’treasure’ around the world, there are concerns about what comes next.

Are Ethiopian troops using Iranian drones in the Tigray war?
[Garowe] With the Æthiopian conflict now spilling over from Tigray to other neighboring states such as Afar and Amhara, there have been reports that Æthiopia National Defense Forces [ENDF] have been using sophisticated drones from Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...

The Tigray Defense Forces [TDF] which has particularly been at loggerheads with the federal army, has often claimed the military has been operating armed drones from an airbase in neighboring Eritrea

Europe
Europe's Afghan Crime Wave Is Mind-Boggling
A taste.
[NationalInterest] Afghans stand out among the refugees committing crimes in Austria and elsewhere. Why?

But there was one development that had not been expected, and was not tolerable: the large and growing incidence of sexual assaults committed by refugees against local women. These were not of the cultural-misunderstanding-date-rape sort, but were vicious, no-preamble attacks on random girls and women, often committed by gangs or packs of young men. At first, the incidents were downplayed or hushed up—no one wanted to provide the right wing with fodder for nationalist agitation, and the hope was that these were isolated instances caused by a small problem group of outliers. As the incidents increased, and because many of them took place in public or because the public became involved either in stopping the attack or in aiding the victim afterwards, and because the courts began issuing sentences as the cases came to trial, the matter could no longer be swept under the carpet of political correctness. And with the official acknowledgment and public reporting, a weird and puzzling footnote emerged. Most of the assaults were being committed by refugees of one particular nationality: by Afghans.

Actually Afghans should not even have been part of the refugee tide, at least not in significant numbers. It was the Syrians who were expected. Afghanistan, a place of lingering and chronic conflict, is no longer on the official refugee roster—that’s reserved for acute political and military emergencies. Still, European authorities and the public were sympathetic, and could understand why Afghans would want to leave a country rife with suicide bombings and empty of opportunity. Also, Europeans held a baseline positive sentiment towards Afghanistan. Many baby-boomer Europeans had, in their hippie days of yore, traversed that country in the legendary VW buses, and retained fond memories of friendly, hospitable people. Later everyone had mourned the loss of the Bamiyan Buddhas and felt for the poor people suffering under Taliban rule. And after that, NATO had been part of the “coalition of the willing.” Europeans were predisposed to be positive towards Afghan refugees. But it quickly became obvious that something was wrong, very wrong, with these young Afghan men: they were committing sex crimes to a much greater extent than other refugees, even those from countries that were equally or more backward, just as Islamic and conservative, and arguably just as misogynist.

It took a while for the pattern to be recognized because, until recently, western European media deliberately refrained from identifying an assailant’s refugee or asylum status, or his country of origin. Only when the correlation became so dramatic that it was itself newsworthy did this policy change. At that point, it became clear that the authorities had known about, and for political reasons had deliberately covered up, large-scale incidences of sexual assault by migrants. For example, a gang of fifty Afghans who terrorized women in the neighborhood of the Linz train station had been brushed off by a government official with the remark that this was an unfortunate consequence of bad weather, and that once summer came the young men would disperse into the public parks and no longer move in such a large, menacing pack. The public was not amused.

I could write the same report about Sweden, Germany, or any other country of asylum in Europe, but I am focusing on examples from Austria because that’s the European country I come from and know best.

What is going on here? And why, why, why the Afghans? According to Austrian police statistics, Syrian refugees cause fewer than 10 percent of sexual assault cases. Afghans, whose numbers are comparable, are responsible for a stunning half of all cases.

This brings us to a third, more compelling and quite disturbing theory—the one that my Afghan friend, the court translator, puts forward. On the basis of his hundreds of interactions with these young men in his professional capacity over the past several years, he believes to have discovered that they are motivated by a deep and abiding contempt for Western civilization. To them, Europeans are the enemy, and their women are legitimate spoils, as are all the other things one can take from them: housing, money, passports. Their laws don’t matter, their culture is uninteresting and, ultimately, their civilization is going to fall anyway to the horde of which one is the spearhead. No need to assimilate, or work hard, or try to build a decent life here for yourself—these Europeans are too soft to seriously punish you for a transgression, and their days are numbered.

And it’s not just the sex crimes, my friend notes. Those may agitate public sentiment the most, but the deliberate, insidious abuse of the welfare system is just as consequential. Afghan refugees, he says, have a particular proclivity to play the system: to lie about their age, to lie about their circumstances, to pretend to be younger, to be handicapped, to belong to an ethnic minority when even the tired eye of an Austrian judge can distinguish the delicate features of a Hazara from those of a Pashtun.

In search of an answer, perhaps we should take a closer look at the victims. We have eliminated improper attire and an unwittingly seductive manner, but might they have any other traits in common to shed light on why they became the targets of such madness? Reviewing them, one word comes to mind: fulfillment. A Turkish exchange student, happy to be advancing her education in industrial design at a good university in Vienna. A girl in a park, enjoying the sunshine. Two friends, taking their babies for a walk. A mother, enjoying a summer stroll with her two children. A contented old lady, out with her pet. Attractive, accomplished, happy, normal people . . . an unbearable sight, perhaps, to—and here I must agree with President Trump—losers. That is what he proposed we should call terrorists, and he is right. These young men, even minus a suicide vest, are losers, which has inspired them to become social terrorists.

Government Corruption
Constitutional expert warns looming Durham report has Beltway 'rattled'
[WND] The looming report on the manipulation of the nation's legal system by those in the Barack Obama administration to pursue the now-debunked "Russia collusion" allegations against President Trump has those in the Beltway "rattled," according to an analysis by constitutional expert Jonathan Turley.

"For good reason," noted the Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at George Washington University.

For two years, Durham, a former U.S. attorney, has been investigating what happened that allowed those in the establishment, inside the government in Washington, to manipulate evidence, as one FBI already has confessed, and more, to pursue the campaign against Trump.

The DOJ's inspector general already has released a long list of offenses that were committed during the Obama administration's work, and the FISA court, which was convinced to authorize spying on the Trump campaign with evidence that apparently was made up, has rescinded some of his authorizations.

Something Is Very Wrong Here With Latest News About Biden
[Right Scoop] Now, there’s been a lot wrong, right down the line, when it comes to how Joe Biden has dealt with the debacle in Afghanistan.

But one of the main problems with his administration is the failure to actually speak frankly and with transparency with the American people. They started this off very badly with both Biden and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki being on vacation. Biden didn’t even come back until Monday to make his speech. Then he went back to Camp David, and then came back to make a speech today. But that speech, as we previously reported, isn’t on Afghanistan, it’s on the Wuhan coronavirus. That’s stunning. Not exactly the thing that is most pressing with thousands of Americans and allies in danger in Afghanistan.

The national security team just held a briefing and it was a clown car affair that my colleague Streiff will be covering. But suffice to say, Gen. Milley and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin would lose their jobs in a real administration. Their responses were just horrific and it would be scary to have these people in charge of a public toilet much less in charge of our military response.

But when Bret Baier appeared on America’s Newsroom on Fox with Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino this morning, they discussed the lack of transparency of Biden and the major players, the failure of the administration to really speak on what is going on in-country. This was prior to the Milley/Austin briefing. Baier said that according to their sources, after the COVID speech, he was hearing that Biden would be heading back to Wilmington, Delaware to continue with his vacation either today or tomorrow.

#1  Well you had to pull out someday. It's only fate that Biden is left standing on this clusterfcuked corpse of a campaign. But then he wanted this job so bad he upended democracy itself to get here. He can have it.

#2  In short, yes. Joe Biden did indeed undergo brain surgery on two occasions, both in 1988. In February of that year, he suffered from several episodes of increasingly severe neck pain. According to The New York Times, he attributed the pain to a pinched nerve and a viral infection.

One day, while he was alone in a hotel room, Biden felt a sharp, stabbing pain at the back of his neck. In his autobiography, Promises to Keep, Biden wrote that the pain was like nothing he had ever experienced and that he lay unconscious on the floor for five hours after it occurred. The next day, he went into a Delaware hospital for testing and was quickly rushed to Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
There, he underwent a lifesaving, six-hour surgical procedure to fix an aneurysm that had begun leaking at the base of his brain. In May of 1988, Biden underwent a second operation to repair another aneurysm on the opposite side of his brain. This second aneurysm had not caused any symptoms but was at risk of bursting.
During the 2008 presidential race (in which Biden was running for vice president), Dr. Eisold, the Capitol physician, said that Biden had “recovered fully without continued effects” from the aneurysms he had experienced 20 years prior. Further medical documentation revealed that he had relatively minor health problems in 2008, including chronic sinusitis and allergies.

Fast forward to the current presidential race,{2020} where some people are wondering whether Biden’s brain surgeries could indicate that he is not a good fit for the job ?
One person who felt comfortable weighing in on that question was Dr. Neal Kassell — Joe Biden’s former brain surgeon.

In a 2019 interview, Dr. Kassell said that Biden did not suffer any brain damage from the aneurysms (or the surgeries) that could come back to haunt him now, decades later. “He is every bit as sharp as he was 31 years ago. I haven’t seen any change,” Dr. Kassell said. “I can tell you with absolute certainty that he had no brain damage, either from the hemorrhage or from the operations that he had. There was no damage whatsoever.”

He then went one step further, saying about his vote in the upcoming election: “I am going to vote for the candidate who I am absolutely certain has a brain that is functioning. And that narrows it down exactly to one.”

Have you seen your patient LATELY Doc ?

Science & Technology
Is Natural Immunity More Effective Than the COVID Shot?
[TruthBasedMedia] The reason natural immunity is superior to vaccine-induced immunity is because viruses contain five different proteins. The COVID shot induces antibodies against just one of those proteins, the spike protein, and no T cell immunity. When you’re infected with the whole virus, you develop antibodies against all parts of the virus, plus memory T cells.

This also means natural immunity offers better protection against variants, as it recognizes several parts of the virus. If there are significant alternations to the spike protein, as with the Delta variant, vaccine-induced immunity can be evaded. Not so with natural immunity, as the other proteins are still recognized and attacked.

Not only that but the COVID jabs actually actively promote the production of variants for which they provide virtually no protection at all, while those with natural immunity do not cause variants and are nearly universally protected against them.

If we are to depend on vaccine-induced immunity, as public health officials are urging us to do, we’ll end up on a never-ending booster treadmill. Boosters will absolutely be necessary, as the shot offers such narrow protection against a single protein of the virus. Already, Moderna has publicly stated that the need for additional boosters is expected.
We get new flu shots every year. Some years they work better than others, but none are perfect.

#2  Pardon my layman ignorance, but isn't natural immunity a nuance of evolution itself? So it arrives concurrently with yet developing diseases and contends with evolving viruses. At its own rate.

What does one do to achieve immunity for something a)exceedingly virulent, (b)deliberately constructed to (c)infect billions suddenly? One surely develops vaccines. As I understand it, this involves exposure in a controlled manner to the very thing. Again, excuse my ignorance if this is not so.

Does one make mistakes because the evil sons of whores have had decades to create their bioweapon and we have only months to find cures and engineer an induced immunity? Sure. I suppose one minimizes the risks to the population too, because without the population... there is no point in lording it over our States, and no one left to lord over.

Is natural immunity more effective than a shot? Definitely. Have you time to evolve it fast enough to fight the rapidly unfolding CoV package of chaos? I think not. One cannot discount the profit motivations of big pharma and the callousness of governments, not to mention the compulsion to control and coerce. Which is where all this mistrust is generated. I think it would be a good idea to examine the science, and not the statistics when forming our opinions. One simply cannot trust the numbers and graphs in a time when more people show up to elect a man than are living in a district. Gromgoru may be casually dismissive of people he thinks are intellectually inferior, an irritating quality to some, but one thing about him he always points to the science of the thing. Of course I am not in favor of boots on the neck immunization or adding the cancel culture to vaccine protocols, but the public should debate and ascertain for themselves, sans fear mongering and blind anti-establishment rhetoric.

#3  Covid - even if it don't kills one - can bring permanent impairments (google "long covid"). So, by all means seek natural immunity.

p.s. Long Covid doesn't explain raj - IMO he was born this way.

#8  Not my comment.

The flu virus, like HIV, notoriously mutates. So you are getting a shot for a *different* flu each year. The COVID jab loses effectiveness against the *same* SARS-COV-2 virus.

#12  Left unstated and unconsidered is the duration of natural immunity to COVID-19. Natural immunity to other coronaviruses seems rather short, and this explains why most of us get infected by similar coronaviruses over and over again.

#18  I have always wondered what would happen with increased population. As Obama said this is the new normal. We have now in a steady decline in people skills. The phone and television have lead the way. Right and wrong no longer matter. We have become expendable numbers. The herd is actively being culled. Increasingly people are refusing to be managed. All business activity will decline as many are forced out of work. The non vaxed will be denied medical care. The pressure cooker has no relief valve. The show must go on down, and further down. No bottom to be seen as yet.

#21  The non vaxed will be denied medical care.

Interesting question. What is the better choice for overall health? Get the vaccine, or give up access to what we call healthcare? Off the cuff I'd think most would be better off without the vaccine until their 60's. At some point you'll want chemo or a stent. Until then you are better off with COVID.
