California Supreme Court says state cannot hold people in jail if they can't afford to make bail
[Just The News] The California Supreme Court this week delivered a partial but significant blow to the state’s criminal bail system, ruling that authorities cannot hold prisoners behind bars simply because they’re incapable of meeting a bail payment.

In the ruling, the court said that "other conditions of release — such as electronic monitoring, regular check-ins with a pretrial case manager, community housing or shelter, and drug and alcohol treatment — can in many cases protect public and victim safety as well as assure the arrestee’s appearance at trial."

"What we hold is that where a financial condition is nonetheless necessary," the court continued, "the court must consider the arrestee’s ability to pay the stated amount of bail — and may not effectively detain the arrestee ’solely because’ the arrestee ’lacked the resources’ to post bail."

Pretrial detention, the court argued, "should be reserved for those who otherwise cannot be relied upon to make court appearances or who pose a risk to public or victim safety."

Diversity and Inclusion Officer Hired For Special Forces
[Victory Girls] On Friday, March 26, 2021, the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) announced that they have hired Richard Estrada-Torres as their Officer of Diversity and Inclusion. You read that right. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is planning to "cultivate masculinity" and our Special Forces are getting woke. Patton, Pershing, Nimitz, Puller, and Washington are shaking their fists at us.

For those not versed in military speak, USSOCOM is the umbrella organization for special operations in the United States Military:
SOCOM was established following the disastrous attempt by Delta Force to rescue Americans held hostage in Iran in 1980. One of the issues that contributed to the debacle in Iran was the lack of interoperability, communication and co-ordination between the Army, Navy and Air Force. SOCOM was activated in April 1987. SOCOM oversees any special operations involving elements from multiple services. JSOC, a joint command which is focused on counter terrorism, was established in December 1980 and was later brought in under the umbrella of SOCOM.

USSOCOM includes units from all of the military branches, such as Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Marines Special Operations Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, and others.

Their mission statement is:
USSOCOM develops and employs fully capable Special Operations Forces to conduct global special operations and activities as part of the Joint Force to support persistent, networked and distributed Combatant Command operations and campaigns against state and non-state actors to protect and advance U.S. policies and objectives.

For perspective, less than one percent of the United States population serves in the military and two percent of the military are special operators. To quote Will Smith in Men in Black, They are the "Best of the Best of the Best, Sir! With Honors, Sir!" The United States, Canada, Great Britain, Israel and Poland have the best special operations units globally. My point in telling you all of this is that diversity and inclusion are at odds with the very nature of special operations.

Nevertheless, on March 1, 2021, USSOCOM hired Richard Torres-Estrada as Officer for Diversity and Inclusion, but didn’t announce the hire for 25 days. Via Twitter:

Two people found living in man-made cave in San Francisco
[NYP] San Francisco real estate is expensive, but this is ridiculous.

While excavating the site of an old bridge in the Vallejo area of San Francisco, construction workers found two people living in a man-made cave they carved into the side of an embankment.
Trolls
The workers alerted authorities after hearing voices and "dozens of police, firefighters and rescue workers from Vallejo and nearby agencies converged on the bridge at Sacramento Street and Farragut Avenue," according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Inside the 20-foot-long, three-foot-high cave, they found two unidentified people who were removed and are now in the process of being relocated.

"We called in the police and fire departments to make sure we didn’t injure anyone," Walker told the Chronicle. "It’s a rescue operation."

Professor can't be punished for not using transgender student's pronouns, appeals court rules
[JUSTTHENEWS] Apublic university violated a professor's constitutional rights by punishing him for refusing to use a transgender student's preferred pronouns, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday. In a unanimous opinion written by Judge Amul Thapar, a Supreme Court short-lister for former President Trump, the court compared the Ohio university's behavior to a "McCarthy era" law against "subversive" babus government employees.

Philosophy professor Nicholas Meriwether, a "devout Christian," sought an accommodation under which he would not have to address the student as a woman in classroom discussions, which often touched on gender identity as a cultural controversy.

Shawnee State University officials belatedly ordered Meriwether to stop addressing the student only by name and instead use female pronouns. They also shot down his offer to tell students in the syllabus that he was being forced to use preferred pronouns.

Provost Jeffrey Bauer "openly laughed" when Meriwether's union representative explained why his religious beliefs forbade him from using the student's preferred pronouns, the professor claimed. Bauer twice rejected the faculty grievance on Meriwether's behalf — first as provost and then as interim president of the university.

Oral argument didn't go well for Shawnee State last fall. Judge Thapar asked then if the university would force a Jewish professor to honor a student's request to be addressed as "My Fuhrer."

The court was particularly critical of the school's shifting explanation for threatening to fire Meriwether if he again failed to address the student as a woman.

Shawnee State first claimed the professor was creating a "hostile educational environment," despite the fact that the student continued to excel academically. The university switched the charge to "disparate impact" after the faculty grievance, and then switched back to "hostile environment" during oral argument before the court.

"These repeated changes in position, along with the alleged religious hostility, permit a plausible inference that the university was not applying a preexisting policy in a neutral way, but was instead using an evolving policy as pretext for targeting Meriwether's beliefs," the opinion said, reinstating Meriwether's lawsuit.

"This case forced us to defend what used to be a common belief — that nobody should be forced to contradict their core beliefs just to keep their job," said John Bursch, senior counsel at the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing the professor.

Shawnee State told Just the News it was "not issuing a statement at this time" and "not commenting on pending litigation."

Three Deadliest Sniper Rifles in the United States Military
[1945] These three rifles are a mix of brand-new and Cold War-era designs — but don’t let age fool you. Despite one of the designs being nearly 60 years old, it remains deadly on today’s battlefields. Here’s why.

BARRETT M82
The Barrett story has a rather strange and unique origin story. Ronnie Barrett — a photographer with no gunsmith training or experience — designed the first Barrett sniper rifle from scratch, in his garage from handmade parts. Despite the rifle’s humble beginnings, however, the design was almost immediately snapped up by several governments and non-governmental organizations, including the United States Marine Corps as well as the Irish Republican Army, or IRA.

The M82's defining feature is the massive cartridge it fires, the .50 BMG. Originally made for the M2 heavy machine gun, the BMG offers a nearly unrivaled combination of stopping power and lethality at long ranges ‐ on the M82 platform, targets as far as 1,800 meters, or over one mile, can be accurately engaged.

Perhaps the M82's only downside is its rather large size, necessary to handle the not insignificant amount of recoil generated by shooting the large .50 BMG cartridge.

Tinker AFB completes B-52 restoration as ‘Wise Guy' re-enters arsenal
[72nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office] Nearly a year after arriving at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, the second B-52H "Stratofortress" bomber to be resurrected from the Arizona desert has left to rejoin the Air Force fleet.

"Wise Guy" departed Tinker Air Force Base on March 10, 2021, to return to the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot AFB, North Dakota, where it re-entered service.

The aircraft arrived at Tinker in April 2020 to undergo programmed depot maintenance at the OC-ALC. PDM is the final part of a three-phase process to regenerate the aircraft and deliver rapid, effective, affordable combat power back to active service.

During PDM, Wise Guy presented the team with two main challenges: electrical wiring projects and main landing gear structural defects. Leaders said the motivation and dedication of everyone involved to overcome those challenges ensured the regeneration program was successful.

OC-ALC Commander Brig. Gen. Jeff King lauded the efforts of Team Tinker to bring Wise Guy back to life.

Nearly 500 charged with pandemic-related fraud: DOJ
Good. Half a billion dollars here, half a billion there, eventually you’re talking real money.
[The Hill] Nearly 500 people have been charged with COVID-19 related fraud, according to the Justice Department.

The DOJ said in a statement on Friday that it has charged 474 defendants with criminal offenses over fraud schemes across 56 federal districts.

At least 120 defendants have been charged with fraud related to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a provision of the $2.2 trillion CARES Act aimed at helping small businesses keep workers on payroll. The Department also said that over 140 defendants have been charged with Unemployment Insurance fraud.

The DOJ also said that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado and Secret Service have seized over $580 million in proceeds from fraudulent applications for Economic Injury Disaster (EIDL) loans. Those were designed for small businesses, agricultural and non-profit entities.

Virginia Beach shootings leave at least 2 dead, 8 wounded on 'very chaotic night'
Virginia Beach is only one of the destinations that during spring break attracts others in addition to innocently hedonistic college students.
[FOXNEWS] At least two shootings -- one of them involving a police officer -- near the Virginia Beach Oceanfront in southeastern Virginia left at least two dead and eight maimed on Friday night, according to police.

One of the dear departed was killed by police and the other, a woman, was killed in a separate shooting, according to a statement from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

An officer was also hit by a car but was expected to survive, WVEC-TV Norfolk news hound Ali Weatherton reported.

The eight surviving victims were all transported to hospitals with gunshot wounds ranging from serious to life-threatening, police said.

#6  Media ignores Virginia Beach mass shooting suspects
But seems outraged by a cop shooting a suspect armed with a gun

A mass shooting in Virginia Beach that left seven people shot has been largely ignored by the media across the country. Instead, it seems media outlets are far more concerned with an unrelated incident involving a Virginia Beach officer who shot a suspect near a homicide scene, which happened around the time of the mass shooting and nearby as well.

Although it doesn’t take much genius to figure out why the mainstream media seems to be avoiding an incident that challenges one of their popular narratives—and focusing on second-guessing the police and promoting speculation with another. And it doesn’t seem to hard to figure out the mainstream media calculus here, after all, only whites commit mass shootings according to the mainstream news and social media.

How Long Will You Be Immune?
[Military.com] Scientists at the VA's Office of Research and Development in White River Junction, Vermont, have found that the vaccines can provide immunity for at least seven to nine months -- a time frame similar to the immune response generated in people who have had COVID-19.
Aren’t people who had the original SARS back in 2002 still generating an immune response now? Why would the Wuhan Flu, another SARS virus, act differently?
The study examined antibodies in some of the 240,000 veterans who have contracted COVID-19, Dr. Richard Stone, VA's acting under secretary for health, said Friday.

"The evidence is that between seven and nine months, we can feel comfortable that you are still protected. We think it will be longer than that. That is not a limitation," Stone said, speaking to reporters during a news conference Friday.
Ah. Minimum rather than maximum. Gotcha.
McDonough added that the biggest challenge for VA regarding vaccine distribution is in rural areas where vaccine hesitancy is more prevalent. VA has launched mobile units designed to get vaccines out to rural and "highly rural areas," and has completed 317 missions, with another 31 planned by May 1.

"While we are very happy to see [an] uptick among our veterans of color -- in fact, we are seeing less hesitancy among Black veterans than we feared we might see -- we have work to do on rural and highly rural veterans," McDonough said.

#1  Within 10 hours new variants of covid appear. UK, Germany lock down, Australia, Africa, Brazil and USA. Much more deadly. New vaccine needed for each possible deadly variant. Killing the host is not the desired goal. Co-mingling best future for the bugger. Common cold still eludes and they all shame and pressure those who do not comply. The great reset, the new world order. As in the military at some point mass inoculations with whatever they think is needed. Sounds like conscious objector status will become a common state of mind for many. Banned on public transportation, all travel, gatherings, schools, hospitals all for the greater good.

#3  It occurs to me that a good part of our national response resulted from the fact that President Trump is a confessed germaphobe, the only thing the Deep State “Resistance” could find that would get him to turn away from continuing to shrink government, open up the economy, end wars, build the border wall, cut off China, and otherwise continue implementing his campaign promises. So they rode the panic hard and he responded beautifully, except for organizing speeded up vaccine development with Project Warp Speed and various other manufacturing initiatives.

Afghanistan
Afghan Population Growing Rapidly, 57% Increase in Two Decades
[ToloNews] Afghanistan’s population has grown by 57 percent in the last two decades, according to statistics by the National Statistic and Information Authority, and there was a 13.8 million increase in the last 20 years.

According to NSIA, in 1399 (2020), Afghanistan’s population was around 32.9 million while in 1380 (2001), Afghanistan had only 19.9 million population.

Statistics by international organizations reveal that if Afghanistan’s population growth rates increase with the same percentage, in 2050, the country will have a population of 64 million.

During these years, Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital and the most congested city in the country, has become more populous than any other part of the country. Kabul has over five million while it had a population of 500,000 two decades ago.

"This further adds to the issues that we have today in the areas of underground waters, environment, drainage and weather," NSIA spokesperson Roeena Shahabi said.

The Ministry of Public Health said it has launched a public awareness campaign to help families get acquaintance with family planning strategy as part of efforts to control the population.

Based on the program, the ministry will undertake the establishment of clinics in remote regions of Afghanistan.

"This is a serious problem for the Afghan health system. We continue our efforts to formulate a family planning program for our citizens," the Public Health Ministry’s front man Dastagir Nazari said.

Recent reports say that almost 40 percent of Afghans are facing unemployment these days and the trend continues to be on the rise.

"This percentage will likely slump by 20 percent. It means there is a possibility that the unemployment rate gets down," Labor and Social Affairs Minister Bashir Ahmad Tahyanj said.

"We do not have any credible figure about the scale and level of unemployment. There are figures about the number of educated people and the overall population," said Mir Jalaluddin Husham, head of Afghan-Korea Institute.

Afghanistan is now the 37th most populous country in the world; but by the year 2050, the Afghan population is projected to be 31st in world rankings.

Afghan families are usually high in number. Mohammad Sadiq, head of a family in Kabul, said they spent many years in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and Pakistain, but their economic condition is not good.

"We don’t have access to electricity and water, to school and to training," Sadiq said.

"Things are getting worse for us. I borrowed 1000 Afs from my neighbors to enroll my child at school," said Najiba, a Kabul resident.

Zambia: Under Chinese influence
[France24] China's presence is visible all over Africa. But nowhere as much as in Zambia, the African nation where it invested the most money last year. The ties between Beijing and Lusaka are strong and have existed for decades. Today, China possesses one third of Zambia's national debt. It has invested in the mining and industrial sectors, but also in agriculture. Some Zambians denounce this Chinese presence as a form of neo-colonialism.

Our reporters, Nicolas Germain, Roméo Langlois and Yi Song, gained unprecedented access to Chinese businesses in Africa. Here are some extracts from their documentary "Zambia: Under Chinese influence", which will be published online in its full-length version in April 2021.

Tired of the Lockdowns? Go Boating!
[Fox Business] Boat purchases are booming in America amid the coronavirus pandemic, with 2020 sales reaching a 13-year high, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).

Boating has been part of a renewed interest in outdoor recreation as many Americans were locked down due to the coronavirus in 2020. FOX Business' Webster spoke with the sales director at Palm Beach International Boat Show about the reasons behind the popularity spike.

"It's proven to be one of the safest and most funniest things to do during the pandemic for families," Dean Fillichio said. "A family can go out on their boat and enjoy a day, a weekend, you know, an entire week. It really all depends on what they want to do."
Most funniest? I think he meant to say, "one of the most fun things to do..."
NMMA statistics show boat and marine product sales totaled approximately $47 billion last year and more than 310,000 new powerboats were sold.

#1  Strolled around the neighborhood tonight ... loudspeaker from high school stadium: football game, no face diapers. Even louder noise... music... wow, I remember music. I walk toward it and find an outdoor street party with a live band of 40-something amateurs belting out Bon Jovi and 70s hits. Folks dancing and drinking - no face diapers. A food truck - no face diapers. Portable chairs on the street, kids riding bikes, neighbors chatting and being neighborly - and no f---ing diapers to be seen.

A beautiful thing.

#2  Mr. Wife and I went out with a friend to a local bar for drinks and bar food yesterday — we sat inside, and Mr. Wife didn’t worry about me even though I’ve only had my first shot, despite carefully refraining himself until after his second. Although the staff wore masks, the band and a few of the patrons pulled their masks under their chins while the rest of us bared our faces to the world. Today my inoculated mother joined us for the first hamburgers on the new grill, then Mr. Wife joined friends at another bar to watch the MMA fights. Again, no masks. Clearly many of those who’ve had at least one shot consider themselves safe out in the world, and enough of the rest are no longer willing to cover up. Dr. Fauci and his fans no longer control the narrative.

#3  May have been WWII nostalgia, or possibly not. Many people kept their ration books and stamps. I'm not throwing our masks away just yet.

This could have been a training exercise or test.

#4  The masks will be useful if there's flu in the household, or the guaranteed next time something interesting escapes (or “escapes”) from China. I’m going to throw them in the first aid kit so I know where they are.

#5  The masks are useful when woodworking and dusting in the house. Most are too porous to prevent viruses from passing through. I have heard of health care workers getting COVID despite wearing both a N95 mask and face shield.

I recall young ladies burning their bras in the 60s and 70s era. Somewhere I saw a recent report of mask burnings.

Fifth Column
Communist Party USA Affirms Loyalty to Beijing

[THEEPOCHTIMES] It’s the 1930s all over again. American communists are now treating the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with the same slavish reverence once reserved for Stalin and the mighty Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).

The Communist Party USA (CPUSA), once shamelessly subservient to the CPSU, has now completely transferred its loyalties to the CCP.

On March 10, a high-level delegation from the CPUSA met with senior CCP officials in Beijing. According to an article on the CPUSA website, the International Department of the CPUSA and the International Commission of the Central Committee of the CCP “held a bilateral meeting to celebrate and discuss the 100th anniversary” of the CCP.

Los Angeles-based Rossana Cambron, national co-chair of the CPUSA, and Houston, Texas, comrade Alvaro Rodriguez, the party’s International Secretary, led the U.S. delegation.

Despite being a small party (estimated 5,000 members), the CPUSA delegation was treated with considerable respect and interest by CCP officials.

Delegate Tony Pecinovsky, a CPUSA organizer and labor historian from St. Louis, Missouri, gave the CCP officials an overview of 100 years of party history.

Comrade Maicol David Lynch from New York explained to his Chinese hosts that “most young people have a positive attitude toward socialism, especially after the political election campaigns by Bernie Sanders. The CPUSA has attracted a lot of interest from young people and increasing numbers of young people are applying for membership.”

Comrade Zhou, the CCP’s international secretary, recounted a century of U.S.–China relations: “We remember how Americans came to help us during the War of Japanese Aggression, we remember the solidarity that the CPUSA showed the CPC during this time of resistance.”

Comrade Yinchun, a member of the CCP’s central committee and international commission, boasted of China’s recent eradication of extreme poverty: “Our socialist market economy has lifted millions out of dire poverty, and by 2035, they will have achieved an even higher standard of life.”

The CPUSA also contributed to the Wanshou Forum on Feb. 28, 2019, in Beijing, on the theme of “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and Development of Socialism in the World.” The address was prepared by Cambron, but because of illness was delivered by Ohio comrade Aleena Starks.

Tech students perform virtual autopsies with visual dissection table
[Herald Mail Media] Washington County Technical High School students are getting a leg up in human anatomy — virtually, that is.

Students in Elizabeth McDonald's Academy of Biomedical Sciences class are using virtual, computerized cadavers thanks to a 3D anatomy system, known as an Anatomage table. The students can visualize anatomy exactly as they would on a fresh cadaver.

"It's complete cadavers," McDonald said. "The students are able to examine layers of the body, and peel away layers ... they can determine how the person died.

"They meet the cadaver and the story of what happened to the person," she said. "It's so cool."

The high-tech gadget allows students to perform autopsies with the touch of a finger. Students can zoom in and out, and peel back the cadaver's individual tissues, cells and organs.

The Anatomage table cost around $100,000, said Washington County Public Schools' Communication Officer Erin Anderson. The school district used federal grant funds to pay for it, she said.

Duplicate of a TW post - apologies - Myanmar forces kill over 100 in deadliest day since coup
Update. See earlier overnight report here.
[Washington Examiner] YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — As Myanmar's military celebrated the annual Armed Forces Day holiday with a parade Saturday in the country's capital, soldiers and police elsewhere reportedly killed dozens of people as they suppressed protests in the deadliest bloodletting since last month's coup.

The online news site Myanmar Now reported late Saturday that the death toll had reached 114. A count issued by an independent researcher in Yangon who has been compiling near-real time death tolls put the total at 107, spread over more than two dozen cities and towns.

Both numbers are higher than all estimates for the previous high on March 14, which ranged in counts from 74 to 90.

Figures collected by the researcher, who asked not to be named for his security, have generally tallied with the counts issued at the end of each day by the Assistance Association of Political Prisoners, which documents deaths and arrests and is widely seen as a definitive source. The Associated Press is unable to independently confirm the death tolls.

The killings quickly drew international condemnation, with multiple diplomatic missions to Myanmar releasing statements that mentioned the killing of civilians Saturday, including children.

More than 90 killed in Myanmar in one of bloodiest days of protests
See update here. It looks like this is Myanmar’s natural state, not something special to do with Aung San Suu Kyi.
[AlAhram] State television had said on Friday that protesters risked being shot 'in the head and back'

Security forces killed more than 90 people across Myanmar on Saturday in one of the bloodiest days of protests since a military coup last month, news reports and witnesses said.

The lethal crackdown came on Armed Forces Day. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the junta leader, said during a parade in the capital Naypyitaw to mark the event that the military would protect the people and strive for democracy.
