Angelina Jolie to Move on from Her Role as UN Special Envoy for Refugees
[Khaama] How will civilization survive?
After over 20 years of service with the UN Refugee Agency, the world-renowned American actress, Angelina Jolie, announced that she is stepping down from her position as the UN special envoy for refugees.

In a statement on Friday, December 16, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that Jolie is moving on from her position as Special Envoy after more than 20 years of "dedicated and committed" service to the UN Refugee Agency advocating for refugees’ rights and protection.

Jolie, who has been a special envoy for UNHCR since 2012 and has worked with the organization for more than 2 decades, said she intends to "work differently" and connect "directly" with local refugee organizations.

Jolie, according to the UNHCR statement, has put in a great deal of effort over the past 21 years, participating in more than 60 field missions to witness narratives of pain as well as stories of hope and resiliency.

"Angelina Jolie has been an important humanitarian partner of UNHCR for very long. We are grateful for her decades of service, her commitment, and the difference she has made for refugees and people forced to flee," said UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.

"I know the refugee cause will remain close to her heart, and I am certain she will bring the same passion and attention to a wider humanitarian portfolio."

Meanwhile, international media also reported that the UN refugee agency has no plan of appointing someone else, to succeed Angelina Jolie, citing the UNHCR spokesperson.

Again, they are not to blame. It has been my experience that the guy or gal out there whomever they are, busting their asses in honest work in an effort to support a wife and two or three kids is NOT to blame for a damn thing.

Nearly 15,000 children involved in hard labor in Baghlan
How this compares to the previous government, the article does not say.
[Pajhwok] According to a new survey, 14,865 children in northern Baghlan province are engaged in hard labor that has deprived them of education, the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
Children’s Fund (UNICEF) say.

Sayed Kabir Sadat, the provincial head of UNICEF office, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Saturday that the survey was conducted recently in Baghlan province.

Sadat urged the government and aid organizations to work for the future of these children.

He added their survey showed a total of 14,865 children were involved in hard labor in the quiet provincial capital, Pul-e-Khumri, and all districts of the province and they did not go to school.

Haroon, a 10-year-old boy who runs a handcart, told Pajhwok that his father had passed away and he was responsible to work and feed his family of eight. "I have to work to feed my family, I have no other option", he added.

Haroon daily earns only 150 afghanis, "I cannot go to school, if someone helps then there will be an opportunity to pursue study."

Nasratullah Parsa, the head of the provincial Public Works department, told Pajhwok there are thousands of child laborers in Baghlan province.

"We have shared the figures about the number of child beggars and child laborers with some welfare organizations to help and facilitate their education," Parsa said.

The office of the International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) has also expressed concern over the current situation of children in Afghanistan.

Pakistan robbing cultural heritage of Afghanistan
Unexpectedly.
[ANI] Pak agents are robbing Afghanistan of its cultural heritage by smuggling ancient idols and other artifacts from the war-torn country, reported the Afghan Diaspora Network.

The smuggling is done by a global racket of smugglers who are facilitated by local Afghan officials. Major support to the crime is provided by actors working from the territory of neighbouring Pakistain.

It is an open secret that many ancient Afghan scriptures/idols have found their way into the international grey market through Pakistain, reported the Afghan Diaspora Network.

Afghanistan often referred to as the heart of Asia, is endowed with a great cultural heritage. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
centuries of upheaval in the form of political instability and violence did not allow it to reflect upon this enormous asset and experience its vastness.

An important pillar of this heritage is Buddhism which was a major influence here before the 10th century. In Afghanistan, Buddhist cave temples are concentrated in three regions: Jalalabad, Haibak, and Bamiyan
...a place in Afghanistan that used to have some historically interesting statues of the Buddha carved into a mountainside. Then the holy men showed up and now all they have is some big holes...
Among them, Bamiyan valley in central Afghanistan is best known as the home to sixth-century Bamiyan Buddha statues which were destroyed in 2001 by the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
regime.

It was a monumental pair (standing 55 & 37 meters) of Shakyamuni Buddha, carved into the side of a cliff in the valley. The destruction was a colossal loss of the ancient archaeological and cultural legacy of the country and the Buddhist world.

The archaeological remains of the Bamiyan Valley represent the artistic and religious features of the Gandhara school of Buddhist art.

Though most of the cultural signs have been ruined by centuries of turmoil, the surviving ones indicate the vast spread of Buddhism enjoyed in the region at one point in time.

The Bamiyan site was put on the endangered sites list after the destruction of the statues which led to a considerable boom in tourism. There have also been efforts to restore the figures by professional organizations working under international cooperation.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
all these efforts were not enough to stop the gradual damage to the heritage which is taking place for years in the form of the smuggling of ancient idols and other artifacts, reported the Afghan Diaspora Network.

A heritage and cultural organization of Italia named LaGeS (Laboratoria di Geografia Sociale) which is working for the restoration of Buddha statues with UNESCO and the Italian Ministry of Culture in Bamiyan is facing problems due to this racket.

Some officials of the Italian agency blame this on the continued operation of smuggling agents from Pakistain.

These agents work near historical sites in the guise of journalists, archaeologists, researchers, and representatives of UNESCO/UN bodies. Some of them are even believed to be state officials from Pakistain including those of its intelligence agencies, reported the Afghan Diaspora Network.

They provide information about the presence of ancient scriptures at different sites to their Pak handlers who then arrange their theft and transportation to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
in Pakistain.

From there, these items are sent to Lahore before being finally sold in the international grey market. Aggravated by the obstruction of its work by these elements, LaGeS has reportedly requested UNESCO to avoid employing Paks for the ongoing project arguing that they have damaged the very cause of the Bamiyan project.

Iranian Ambassador Dismissed over Contentious Remarks about Authorities in Afghanistan
[Khaama] The Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Bahadur Aminian, was dismissed after a transcript of his controversial speech regarding Afghan authorities surfaced in the media.

The communications and media officer of the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, Abbas Badrifar, informed the Afghan media on Friday that Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Special Representative of the Iranian President to Afghanistan, had taken over Aminian’s duties at the embassy.

Kazemi Qomi, who appears to be the most dependable Iranian diplomat for Afghan authorities and Iran, has replaced Bahadur Aminian as chief of Iran’s mission in Kabul.

The Iranian embassy underwent restructuring following the December 9th leak of the text of Aminian’s speech about Afghanistan’s de facto authorities at a special meeting by the Black Reward hacking group, which was acquired from among the Fars news agency’s folders.

Kazemi Qomi is a top Iranian diplomat who led the first Iranian delegation to Kabul shortly after Afghanistan’s regime transformed from the Islamic Republic to Islamic Emirate and met with the country’s new rulers. He was later designated as the Iranian President’s special representative in Afghanistan.

Bahadur Aminian reportedly described the new leaders of Afghanistan as "intolerable, subversive, and embarrassing creatures of Afghanistan and Muslims" in this address, and stated that Iran has no alternative but to interact with them.

"The Taliban are like the Mongol army and the Islamic Republic [of Iran] must deal with them like the Mongols to become civilized."

Al-Shabaab accused of displacing civilians in Somalia
[Garowe] al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
gunnies are deliberately displacing civilians in the country, the Somali National Army [SNA] has said, noting that the al-Qaeda group is targeting villages which it is in full control as the military wrestles to liberate them.

According to the military, the strategy is devised in a way that villagers are prevented from collaborating with the government. Also, the gunnies are now kidnapping relatives of the local militia now helping the government forces to fight the group in different parts of the country.

So far, the military says, over 70 villages have been liberated from the group since the crackdown started in August this year. One of the most dramatic successes took over Adan Yabal town within Middle Shabelle which was considered a stronghold for the krazed killers.

Military officials said some of the residents fled when the fighting got closer, but others were ordered to leave prior to that by al-Shabaab.

"They took many families with them because they accused them of letting their sons join the Ma'awisley, and said that their boys had taken up arms against al-Shabaab," said Brigadier General Abdullahi Ali Anod, spokesperson for the Somali military. The Ma'awisley are the local forces fighting alongside the Somali government.

According to Anod, the gunnies are hell-bent to block locals from associating with the government which is mandated to provide basic services to the people of Somalia. "We are fighting over territory and over the people." He said the terror group is exercising a strategy that instructs their local commanders, "If you lose the territory, do not lose the people."

Last week, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud confirmed that the gunnies displaced many people who were living in Adan Yabal, with the group maintaining that over 10,000 were residents.

The group's shadow governor for the Middle Shabelle region, Yusuf Isse Kabakutukade, denied the group kidnapped the civilians. He said the president's remarks accusing al-Shabaab of kidnapping residents of Adan Yabaal were a "lie" and "surprising."

"No one can kidnap 10,000 humans," Kabakutukade told the group's radio station. "Even if 10,000 people were kidnapped and taken by force, I would say where in the Middle Shabelle region do you detain 10,000 people?"

He acknowledged that the residents had left the town but gave different reasons for that. "Some took up their arms, and they are in the forest with the mujahedeen, and some wanted to stay away from his [the president's] fitnah [trouble]," Kabakutukade said.

Al-Shabaab has lost most strongholds to the government troops with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud insisting that the crackdown would continue in the coming months until the gunnies are completely subdued. The government is also receiving backing from the US Africa Command and African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...

Libya’s Presidential Council Calls for Release of Extradited Lockerbie Suspect
[LibyaReview] On Saturday, the official Spokeswoman for the Libyan Presidential Council (PC), Najwa Wahiba called on the US authorities to repatriate former intelligence officer, Abu Ajila Masoud. He was extradited to Washington over his alleged involvement in the Lockerbie bombing in 1988.

In a video published by the Presidential Council, Wahiba condemned the handover of Abu Ajila to the US. She also demanded that "any US judicial requests against the Libyan suspect be dealt with within the framework of judicial cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, and under the jurisdiction of the Libyan judiciary."

On Friday, the Head of the PC, Mohammed al-Mnifi held talks with a number of senior US officials on the sidelines of the Washington-hosted, US-Africa Leaders Summit.

Libya militia held Lockerbie suspect before handover to US
[IsraelTimes] Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir al-Marimi, explosives expert for Libya’s intelligence service, captured in mid-November nighttime raid in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, Libyan officials reveal

Around midnight in mid-November, Libyan gunnies in two Toyota pickup trucks arrived at a residential building in a neighborhood of the capital of Tripoli. They stormed the house, bringing out a blindfolded man in his 70s.

Their target was former Libyan intelligence agent Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir al-Marimi, wanted by the United States for allegedly making the bomb that brought down New York-bound Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, just days before Christmas in 1988. The attack killed 259 people in the air and 11 on the ground.

Weeks after that night raid in Tripoli, the US announced Mas’ud was in its custody, to the surprise of many in Libya, which has been split between two rival governments, each backed by an array of militias and foreign powers.

Analysts said the Tripoli-based government responsible for handing over Mas’ud was likely seeking US goodwill and favor amid the power struggles in Libya.

Four Libyan security and government officials with direct knowledge of the operation recounted the journey that ended with Mas’ud in Washington.

The officials said it started with him being taken from his home in the Abu Salim neighborhood of Tripoli. He was transferred to the coastal city of Misrata and eventually handed over to American agents who flew him out of the country, they said.

The officials spoke to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. Several said the United States had been exerting pressure for months to see Mas’ud handed over.

"Every time they communicated, Abu Agila was on the agenda," one official said.

In Libya, many questioned the legality of how he was picked up, just months after his release from a Libyan prison, and sent to the US. Libya and the US don’t have a standing agreement on extradition, so there was no obligation to hand Mas’ud over.

The White House and Justice Department declined to comment on the new details about Mas’ud’s handover. US officials have said privately that in their view, it played out as a by-the-book extradition through an ordinary court process.

A State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
in line with briefing regulations, said Saturday that Mas’ud’s transfer was lawful and described it as a culmination of years of cooperation with Libyan authorities.

Libya’s chief prosecutor has opened an investigation following a complaint from Mas’ud’s family. But for nearly a week after the US announcement, the Tripoli government was silent, while rumors swirled for weeks that Mas’ud had been kidnapped and sold by militiamen.

After public outcry in Libya, the country’s Tripoli-based prime minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, acknowledged on Thursday that his government had handed Mas’ud over. In the same speech, he also said that Interpol had issued a warrant for Mas’ud’s arrest. A front man for Dbeibah’s government did not answer calls and messages seeking additional comment.

On December 12, the US Department of Justice said that it had requested that Interpol issue a warrant for him.

After the fall and killing of longtime Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
in a 2011 uprising-turned-civil war, Mas’ud, an explosives expert for Libya’s intelligence service, was detained by a militia in western Libya. He served 10 years in prison in Tripoli for crimes related to his position during Qadaffy’s rule.

He was released in June after completing his sentence. After his release, he was under permanent surveillance and barely left his family home in the Abu Salim district, a military official said.

The neighborhood is controlled by the Stabilization Support Authority, an umbrella of militias led by warlord Abdel-Ghani al-Kikli, a close ally of Dbeibah. al-Kikli has been accused by Amnesia Amnesty International of involvement in war crimes and other serious rights violations over the past decade.

After Mas’ud’s release from prison, the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...the collection of boodlers, grifters, hangers-on, and self-proclaimed experts affiliated with the Biden Crime Family. Entrusted with an entire nation as the result of a suspicious election, they set about happily implementing stuff they absorbed in college, all of which blew up and splattered the rest of us...
intensified extradition demands, Libyan officials said.

At first, the Dbeibah government, one of the two rival administrations claiming to govern Libya, was reluctant, citing concerns of political and legal repercussions, said an official at the prime minister’s office.

The official said US officials continued to raise the issue with the Tripoli-based government and with warlords they were dealing with in the fight against Islamic forces of Evil in Libya. With pressure mounting, the prime minister and his aides decided in October to hand over Mas’ud to American authorities, the official said.

Dbeibah’s mandate remains highly contested after planned elections failed to happen last year.

"It fits into a broader campaign being conducted by Dbeibah, which basically consists of giving gifts to influential states," said Jalel Harchaoui, a Libya expert and an associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute. He said Dbeibah needs to curry favor to help him remain in power.

More than a decade after the death of Qadaffy, Libya remains chaotic and lawless, with militias still holding sway over large territories. The country’s security forces are weak, compared to local militias, with which the Dbeibah government is allied to varying degrees. To carry out the arrest of Mas’ud, the Dbeibah government called on al-Kikli, who also holds a formal position in the government.

The prime minister discussed the Mas’ud case in a meeting in early November with al-Kikli, according to an employee of the Stabilization Support Authority who had been briefed on the matter. After the meeting, Dbeibah informed US officials of his decision, agreeing that the handover would take place within weeks in Misrata, where his family is influential, a government official said.

Then came the raid in mid-November, which was described by the officials.

Militiamen rushed into Mas’ud’s bedroom and seized him, transporting him blindfolded to a detention center run by the SSA in Tripoli. He was there for two weeks before he was given to another militia in Misrata, known as the Joint Force, which reports directly to Dbeibah. It’s a new paramilitary unit established as part of a network of militias that support him.

In Misrata, Mas’ud was interrogated by Libyan officers in the presence of US intelligence officers, said a Libyan official briefed on the interrogation. Mas’ud declined to answer questions about his alleged role in the Lockerbie attack, including the contents of an interview that the US says he gave to Libyan authorities in 2012 during which he admitted to being the bomb-maker. He insisted his detention and extradition are illegal, the official said.

In 2017, US officials received a copy of the 2012 interview in which they said Mas’ud admitted building the bomb and working with two other conspirators to carry out the attack on the Pan Am plane. According to an FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
affidavit filed in the case, Mas’ud said that the operation was ordered by Libyan intelligence and that Qadaffy thanked him and other members of the team afterwards.

India-Pakistan
Year 2022: Mixed bag for J&K with terror, infiltrations down, but psy-ops, targeted killings rising
[OneIndia] The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
has been a mixed one in 2022. The Armed Forces have had plenty of success when it comes to gunning down terrorists.

While the forces had plenty of success on the ground, the year also witnessed the rise in psychological warfare in terms of terror groups circulating hi-lists. The Valley has also seen a spate of assassinations this year.

56 FOREIGN HOLY WARRIORS KILLED:
Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh told news hounds this week that in the year 2022, 56 holy warriors had been killed by the security forces. He also said that 86 of the 102 local youth who had joined the terrorist ranks too had been killed.

Singh also said that with 86 new holy warriors from the Valley being killed, the number of such elements has come down to 23.

"Those who choose the path of terrorism, their life is not too long. Youths should take the path of peace and prosperity and leave the path of terrorism. There is no benefit in going towards this path," Singh also said.

PSY-OPS:
The year 2022 saw the birth of a new blog called the Kashmir Fight run by the The Resistence Front which is a derivative of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. Through this blog, the The Resistence Front put out hit-lists.

These hit-lists had the names of pro-India journalists, police personnel and officials. Recently the The Resistence Front circulated two lists comprising the names of Kashmiri Pandit government officials.

This has caused panic in the Valley, but the establishment has said that there is no cause for worry. The militancy is taking its last breath. Stern action is being taken against those involved in giving such threats. Such blogs and websites are under our watch. FIRs have been registered against them. Action is being taken against their supporters as well," Singh had said.

Investigations had found that this operation was planned by one Mukhtar Baba based out of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
. He had got the names from a contact in Srinagar and it was learnt that the blog was being run from Pakistain.

It is a routine conspiracy of those who feel unhappy with peace and prosperity. We will finish all such remaining outfits involved in giving such threats," Dilbag Singh said.

TARGETED KILLINGS:
The assassinations of Kashmiri Pandits and non-Moslem migrant workers triggered panic in Jammu And Kashmir. Since January 2021 over 55 civilians have been killed by hybrid terrorists.

In October last year, seven non-combatants were killed in five days. Among them were a Kashmiri Pandit, a Sikh and two migrant Hindus.

In May, holy warriors had barged into the tehsildar's office in Budgam and rubbed out 36 year old Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit who received a government job under a package for the community.

In October this year, a Kashmiri Pandit, Puran Krishan Bhat was killed in Shopian. In August Sunil Kumar was killed at an apple orchard and the attack was claimed by the Kashmir Freedom Fighters, an offshoot of the Al Badr. They said that Sunil Kumar and his brother Pintu Kumar who was injured in the firing had been encouraging people to take part in the Tiranga rallies in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations.

INFILTRATIONS DOWN:
The annual 2021-2022 report of the Union Home Ministry said that 73 terrorist infiltration attempts were reported both through the International Border and Line of Control in 2021, which is the lowest in five years.

In the year 2017 the number of infiltration bids were 419 and in the following year it dropped to 328.

The report of the MHA also said that the Centre in tandem with union territory of Jammu And Kashmir has adopted a multi-pronged approach to counter infiltration.

The reduction in number of infiltrations and huge number of holy warriors being killed has led to a lot of frustration among these terror groups. This has resulted in the publishing of hit-lists and assassinations. Officials say that they are confident of ending this menace and the year 2023 will hopefully be a terror free year.

Iraq
Sadr-led committee returns at least 200 occupied properties to their Christian owners
[Rudaw] A decree issued by Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
earlier this year has so far seen a large number of Christians reclaim the ownership of their properties confiscated by gangs in the Iraqi capital city Baghdad and other provinces, numbering up to 200 reported confiscations.
They do like their grand gestures of magnanimity, showing they are accountable to no law but their own, Allah-like whim. Besides, only dhimmis under their rule can be harvested like wheat and sheared like sheep. Those beyond the border begin to fancy themselves free men, equal to all those around them.
The return of properties to their rightful owners includes houses, agricultural land, factories, and shops in Baghdad, Nineveh, Basra, and Kirkuk.

A committee established by Sadr started work in June 2022 with close associates and officials to Sadr involved in resolving the issue that had gripped Christians and other minority groups since 2003.

The committee has so far been able to restore 200 properties to their owners, according to Saed Muhannad Musawi, a member of the Sadr-led committee to return confiscated properties to their Christians owners.

"There are some other properties that we are working to restore to their owners. This initiative has brought happiness to the components including Christians, and Sabians. Today we can notice that justice has been done to them. Some of these families had been asking the government for 15 years, some others for 20 years to restore their properties for them, but they had not obtained any answer," Musawi added.

One of those who managed to go back to his house for the first time in six years was Manaf Hanna whose house in Baghdad had been occupied in 2016 by gunnies.

"In 2016, a number of people came to our estate and wrote on the front wall 'this property has sectarian conflict issues' and soon later they occupied it," Hanna, told Rudaw on Thursday.

He added that despite numerous efforts to visit all Iraqi relevant authorities, they failed in all of their efforts to reclaim the ownership of their occupied house. He is now thankful for the influential Shiite leader Sadr.

"We reached out everywhere to restore the ownership of our estate and return home, but they were all too futile. Thanks be to God, under the leadership of Moqtada al-Sadr, my problem was solved today and I returned home," he added.

Though Sadr does not hold any government power, he is one of the key Shiite leaders across the Iraqi political spectrum.

Iraq’s Christian community has been devastated in the past two decades. Following the US-led invasion in 2003, sectarian warfare prompted followers of Iraq’s multiple Christian denominations to flee, and attacks by ISIS in 2014 hit minority communities especially hard.

There is not yet concrete data about the number of properties owned by Christians and occupied by militia gunnies.

Many Christians who fled Iraq after 2003 fearing threats of persecution, left behind their homes. Many of them when they returned, they found out that they had been occupied by gunnies and sold using fabricated deeds.

Fewer than 300,000 Christians remain in Iraq today, but not all live in a permanent place they can call home.

Body of slain Peshmerga commander returned from Germany
[Rudaw] The dead body of the commander of Sulaimani-based Peshmerga commando forces was returned to the Kurdistan Region from Germany on Saturday, nearly two months after being injured in a suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) IED attack.

Akam Omar died in a German hospital on Monday after being critically injured in the midst of an anti-ISIS operation in Garmiyan administration’s Qum Palik village on October 19.

A large number of Kurdish and foreign officials and commanders attended a ceremony at Sulaimani International Airport, organised to welcome the dead body of Omar on Saturday.

"Akam was a warrior. He fought for Kurdistan. He wanted nothing for himself. All he wished [for] was a free Kurdistan and a united people. I promise you we will can what we can to make Akam’s dream a reality," said Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), in a speech during the event.

The force which the slain commander headed is affiliated to the PUK.

ISIS seized control of large swathes of Iraqi land in 2014. The group was declared territorially defeated in 2017 but continues to carry out bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and abductions across several provinces.

The murderous Moslems have taken shelter in a security vacuum in areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad, stretching across several provinces including Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
Salahaddin, and Diyala.

Seth Klarman’s 13F portfolio value decreased from $6.77B to $5.79B this quarter. Baupost Group increased Warner Bros. Discovery and Willis Towers Watson while dropping Intel Corporation.
One can only wish Klarman more bad luck in '23.

#4  Urban Dictionary: Gusano

A Chicano pejorative term for "Hispanics," or mainstreamed Mexicans, derived from Fidel's use for any reactionary, counter-revolutionary person. Other meanings: Right-Wing, sell-out, conservative, neo-fascist, traitor.

To be labelled a rightwing reactionary by Fidel, et al is a compliment. Especially when one is an active democrat who has neither clamped down on a legal system that has been viciously harassing him for at least a decade nor refused multiple elections over the same period.

portfolio value decreased from $6.77B to $5.79B this quarter.

*shrug* Everybody’s portfolio decreased. But he, at least, is till a multibillionaire. He and his won’t be cold and hungry this winter — they just may choose to light their cigars with $50s instead of $100 bills.

Separately, I will not give clicks to the New York Times, though others are welcome to choose differently. But it seems newsworthy to me that the guiding light of the American Progressive Left is ravening to tear out Bibi’s throat before he even is sworn into office.

Ha’aretz is acknowledged to be the New York Times of Israel. Their general outlook is elitist labour socialist, and they generally find modern Israel to be a severe disappointment.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Afghan Nationals Make Half of Iran’s Foreign Investment
Interesting, if true.
[KhaamaPress] Afghan nationals are responsible for half of Iran’s foreign Investment in 2022 alone, stated, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the special envoy of the Iranian President for Afghanistan on Thursday.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of the Iranian President to Afghanistan said in his remarks, "Afghan nationals in Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
play a pivotal role towards the national economy. Half of Iran’s foreign investment comes from them, therefore, the high capacity of Afghan citizens should be utilized when the country is facing difficulties in attracting foreign investment."

Mr. Qomi further added that during the past year the United Arab Emirates expelled 700 Afghan businessmen from this country, whose capital was estimated at $30 million. Unfortunately, we failed to attract this capital and embrace Afghan traders to invest in Iran.

Currently, Iran is plagued with a major challenge in attracting foreign investment. To address the issue the Iranian government needs to come up with a comprehensive policy to ensure that Afghan business owners can legally run their businesses and other economic activities without facing hurdles. In the past, the bank accounts of Afghan citizens were blocked for vague reasons which was a big blow to foreign investment.

The estimated assets of Afghan businessmen and companies operating in Khorasan province is around $1 billion according to the announcement of the Association of Afghan Economic Activists in Razavi Khorasan. This is a massive amount. To capitalize on the existing opportunity by providing work permits, visas, and license to Afghan citizens, Iran can attract more foreign investors from Afghanistan, the region, and beyond.

Iran is the home of thousands of Afghan citizens including business people, students, and refugees. Besides the increasing problems Afghan refugees are currently faced with, they have lived in peace and harmony for many years in Iran.

Trouble in Iran: An interview with Jaish al-ʿAdl of Baluchestân
Long. Grab your stimulating beverage of choice and find a comfortable chair.
[MidstoneCentre] BACKGROUND:
On September 30, the judge of the second branch of Sarāvān City Prosecutor's Office was targeted in an attack by armed individuals. On the same day, Jaish al-ʿAdl
... (Army of Justice) formed in 2012 as a successor to the Salafist Balochi independence group Jundullah (Soldiers of God), which operates on both sides of the Pak-Iranian border but is based in Pakistan. The Pak branch has close relations with al-Qaeda and the Pak Talibs and is probably a false nose and mustache for Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, while the Iranian branch hangs out with Ansar Al-Furqan (Sistan-Balochistan) and Al Nusra (Syria), concentrates on attacking Iranian soldiers and police, and for some reason went after the Taliban in Afghanistan in early 2019...
took responsibility for the same and said in a statement that this attack was carried out in order to make the (Iranian) regime accountable for the killing of protestors in Zâhedân city.

According to Rights Group Amnesia Amnesty International, "Iranian security forces unlawfully killed at least 66 people, including children, and injured hundreds of others after firing live ammunition, metal pellets and teargas at protesters, bystanders and worshippers during a violent mostly peaceful crackdown after Friday prayers on 30 September in Zâhedân, Sistân and Baluchestân province. Another 16 people were killed in separate incidents."

Jaish al-ʿAdl was quick to react and release a statement. The organization said, an hour before claiming the attack, that "it has been observing the current issues in the country...and its strategy has been to refrain from taking any position in order to continue the peaceful protests and also to prevent the regime from making any excuses for the bloody suppression of the protestors. " "But," the statement continued, "after the bloodshed in Zâhedân...the organization announces that it will enter the field with all its power to hold the regime accountable."

Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
has been gripped by protests since the custodial death of Mahsa Amini on 16 September. She was arrested for allegedly breaching the Islamic dress code for women.

The first big protests erupted at Amini’s funeral in her hometown in the Kurdish region of Iran. The near-daily demonstrations continued, flaring up again 40 days after she was buried.

(Note: It's a tradition in Shīʿīte Islam to mark the al-Arba’īn -- 40 days -- after someone's death, usually with a show of grief. Thousands of people, mourners and protesters erupted into the streets in Saqez.)

The subsequent crackdown launched by Iranian government forces has further led to public outrage and after nearly 50 days since its inception, the protests show no sign of ending.

More than 130 universities have participated in protests nationwide and nearly 400 university students have been arrested as of 2 November, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) based in Washington. Overall, thousands of people have been detained and hundreds killed, according to rights groups (exact figures cannot be verified due to reporting restrictions).

Jaish al-ʿAdl (the "Army of Justice") is a Salafī-Jihadist group founded in 2012 that operates in southern Sistân and Baluchestân province of Iran and parts of Pakistain. The group is waging an insurgency against the Iranian government to liberate the province of Sistân and Baluchestân.

According to various media reports, the group was formed by the remaining members of Jundullah after the leader of the latter, Abdolmalek Rigi, was executed by Iran in 2010. Following the appointment of Abdul Rahim Mollazadeh, alias Salahuddin Farooqui, as the leader of Jundullah, Abdul Rahim Rigi (brother of Abdolmalek Rigi) declared the establishment of Jaish al-ʿAdl through the unification of armed factions.

Since then, it has carried out attacks against Iranian government officials and military personnel.

Israel Defense reported in 2019 that the group has over 500 members and followers. The number of active fighters is said to be over 100. Some of them are seasonal, including some from Pakistain, who are called upon for occasional attacks against Iranian government forces.

Salahuddin Farooqui is the current leader of Jaish al-ʿAdl. He was born in 1979 in Rāsk, Sistân and Baluchestân. It has been reported that he has close ties to Baloch tribes in Pakistain's Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
region and has lived many years among the people there. He has voiced opposition to Iranian involvement in Syria and the backing of al-Assad’s regime. Farooqui has been consistent that the organization is only fighting for the support of Sunnis and ethnic Baloch in the region. In an interview with al-Arabiya, he actively denied having any links to ISIS or al-Qāʿidah.
Perhaps not directly, but who can say who is at the other end of a phone call? Or it could be straightforward taqqiya...
Another important leader of the group is Mullah Omar Darakhshan (unrelated to the Afghan Ṭālibān leader). He is the brother of Maula Bux Darakhshan, alias Mauluk, an Iranian Baloch who founded Sipah-e-Rasūl Allāh ("Army of the Prophet of Allah") in the 1990s and allied it with Pakistain’s anti- Shīʿah Sunni bully boy groups.

After Darakhshan was killed by Iranian forces in 2006, Omar, a clean-shaven man in his early 40s, led the anti-Iran group from Kulaho village in the district of Kech in Pakistain’s Balochistan province.

Mullah Omar clearly said in an interview that he does not lead a religious movement, although at the same time he maintained that Iran is suppressing the Baloch community because they are Sunnis and Baloch. He said that his group is fighting for its people’s religious and national rights.

The group has been designated a terrorist organization by Iran, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. The U.S. Department of State re-designated the separatist group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) on July 2, 2019. Jaish al-ʿAdl was previously listed as an FTO with its former name of Jundallah
..."Soldiers of God," a name used by two multiple separate terror outfits, one active in Iran and the other in Pakistain. Both are Sunni organizations that target Shiites. The Pak version has close relations with al-Qaeda and the Pak Talibs and is probably a false nose and mustache for Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
, but the State Department decided to amend the designation to reflect its new alias.
