Chicago mayor to boost police budget following cop murder
[NYPOST] Days after a police officer was murdered in her city, reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
Mayor Lori Lightfoot
...the diminutive and vacuous Heronner da Mare of Chicago. When the corpse count rises she blames the guns, which are banned anyway. A racist to the bone, Lori sez that people with the same skin tone all think alike, not quite getting the implications for a city with a population less than thirty percent black...
vowed Wednesday to boost police funding next year after it was slashed amid calls to defund the department."It’s my expectation that the police department budget will increase, no question. We have to," Lightfoot said at a presser announcing her budget forecast.

She gave no indication of how much she plans to increase the department’s $1.6 billion budget.

She only said additional funds were needed to recruit the "next generation" of officers, as well as "increase the resources devoted to the health and wellness of our coppers."

"We have to make sure we are continuing to provide resources to recruit the next generation of coppers and make sure we’re doing that recruitment in a way that reflects diversity of the city," she said.

Or maybe Code Pink can vigorously protest the Taliban. Or maybe Extinction Rebellion can chain themselves to the US embassy in Kabul. Or load Antifa onto a C-130 and drop them into the heaviest fighting (parachutes optional).

A genius idea - at least as long as she physically goes there. She could do a lot of good. Not in terms of making the situation better, but in terms of supplying comic relief for us folks back home. Think of the confusion, misstatements and general inept buffoonery! It might even be a reason to watch the news again. Or not. Probably not.

A cordon sanitaire is the restriction of movement of people into or out of a defined geographic area, such as a community, region, or country. The term originally denoted a barrier used to stop the spread of infectious diseases.

To get to Europe, Tunisian migrants turn to 'self-smuggling'
[DW] Instead of paying human traffickers, increasing numbers of Tunisians are buying their own boats and organizing do-it-yourself ocean journeys to Europe. It appears to be a growing trend.

In a self-made video, posted live on Facebook, young Tunisians on the boat clattering noisily toward the Italian coastline look relaxed, as though they're on holiday.

"I salute the neighborhood of Tadhamon and my friend, Abdel-Majid," Hamoud, one of the 10 young men on the boat says, joking into the camera. He's referring to the working-class Ettadhamen neighborhood on the outskirts of Tunis. "And greetings to those who were invited to participate in this trip but refused," he continues wryly.

‘Very few’ Iraqis in Lithuania will be granted refugee status: deputy minister
[Rudaw] The Lithuanian government is offering some 2,800 Iraqi migrants colonists in its country a free ticket home, telling them they likely will not be given refugee status.

"We’re offering free return, voluntary return to Iraq," Arnoldas Abramavicius, Lithuania’s deputy interior minister, told Rudaw’s Bestoon Khalid in an interview on Tuesday.

Iraqis made up more than half of an estimated 4,000 migrants colonists who recently entered Lithuania from Belarus and are being held in camps pending processing of their asylum claims. The Lithuanian government has accused Belarus of "weaponizing" migrants colonists, sending them across the border in a bid to force the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to ease sanctions.

Kurds held in camps in Lithuania have told Rudaw their conditions are poor, their tents are flooded, and some have resorted to drinking toilet water.

"Of course conditions are not so good" in the camps, because they were "misled and cheated" into thinking they would get to western Europe, said Abramavicius. Vulnerable people, including minors and families, have been moved to better shelters, but the government was not prepared for the influx of migrants colonists and the situation will likely worsen when winter comes, he added.

He urged migrants colonists to go home. "We can offer a free ticket and we can offer some pocket money, 300 euros," he said. "Very few of them will be granted refugee status as we’re considering that Iraq is not a country affected by war. It’s, we consider it a democracy. And so there is no need to escape and to grant them refugee status."

Some Iraqis have taken the offer, and five or 10 people have decided to return, he added.

Iraq is also repatriating its nationals stuck in Belarus. Over 300 migrants colonists have returned home so far. Iraqi Airways has temporarily suspended flights to Minsk.

Germany and Netherlands suspend deportations to Afghanistan
[DW] Germany will stop deporting failed asylum seekers back to Afghanistan.

Germany will temporarily stop deportations to Afghanistan due to the unstable security situation, the German Interior Ministry told DW on Wednesday.

It comes after the Netherlands suspended deportations to the country for six months.

Earlier in the day, the German Interior Ministry said it believed it would still be possible to deport Afghan asylum seekers, despite the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
quickly retaking parts of the country.

Interior Ministry front man Steve Alter said Wednesday nearly 30,000 Afghans in Germany were slated for deportation.
That’s an awful lot more than I expected...
Alter told news hounds the Ministry "continues to be of the view that there are people in Germany who need to leave the country, as soon as possible."

In the Netherlands, Ankie Broekers-Knol, the state secretary in the Ministry of Justice, told parliament in The Hague Wednesday deportations would be suspended for the next 12 months due to the Taliban's advances across Afghanistan.

The move is an about face as just last week, the Dutch government urged the Afghan government to continue to accept failed asylum seekers.

Since NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
forces announced their withdrawal from Afghanistan in early May, the Taliban have sought a battlefield victory making aggressive pushes for territorial gain as civilian casualties mount.

In recent days, the Taliban have captured nine out of 34 picturesque provincial capitals.

The decisions against deportation came after six European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
member states, including Germany, warned against stopping deportations from Europe.

Iranian official tweets message in Hebrew
[IsraelTimes] Ali Shamkhani, an Iranian general and the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, sends a tweet in Hebrew.

The message, which was also tweeted in English, notes that Shamkhani met earlier today with Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. The two "discussed developments in Afghanistan, Syria and the Persian Gulf," Shamkhani writes in Hebrew.

"Fortunately, the political obstacles to Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have been removed, and Iran’s membership will be finalized," Shamkhani tweets in broken Hebrew.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a political, economic and security alliance that currently comprises eight countries — China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistain, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Over 300 Iraqi migrants arrive in Baghdad from Belarus
[Rudaw] More than 300 Iraqi citizens stranded in Belarus and on the Lithuanian border have returned to Iraq, Baghdad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday evening.

The body of a migrant killed on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border was also repatriated.

Around 240 Iraqi citizens, including the body of Jaafar al-Haris, arrived at Baghdad’s International Airport on Tuesday evening, said the ministry’s spokesperson Ahmad al-Sahaf.

Another flight with over 80 people arrived in Baghdad on Monday, he added.

Some 4,000 migrants colonists have flooded into Lithuania from Belarus in what Lithuania says is a politically motivated move weaponizing migrants colonists to pressure the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to lift sanctions on Minsk. Most are Iraqis, including Kurds.

Speaking to Rudaw on Thursday, Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mantas Adomenas said their neighbor is pushing migrants colonists into Lithuania in order to pressure the EU into dropping the sanctions.

The European Union (EU) placed sanctions on Belarus in June over "enduring repression" and the forced landing of a Ryanair flight carrying a prominent Belarussian human rights

defender, then in exile in Poland.

Kurds stranded in Lithuanian camps have told Rudaw of harsh living conditions, with flooded tents, assault by authorities, and no drinking water — forcing some to drink toilet water.

Some said they would rather be deported than be kept in the camps.

Safeen Dizayee, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s Department of Foreign Relations, discussed the situation with Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis in a phone call on Tuesday .

The two sides agreed to "strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation," he said.

Lithuania and Latvia both took "emergency action" over the situation on the Belarusian border on Tuesday, AFP reported, with Lithuania’s parliament approving the construction of a fence on the border.

The EU said there had been a "significant decrease" in migrant crossings after Iraq suspended flights to Belarus following requests from the EU and Lithuania, it added.

Norwegian imam who has led interfaith dialogue said Jews should be killed
[IsraelTimes] Director of moderate Moslem group’s outreach branch suspended after exposé reveals years of antisemitic statements published on Facebook.

A Moslem imam in Norway who has led interfaith dialogue projects has been suspended after it was revealed that for years he has been posting antisemitic statements on Facebook, including on how Jews are dangerous and "should be killed."
"It's their culture and religion. Who are we to judge?"
The Norway branch of Minhaj-ul-Koran, an international Moslem organization that is considered moderate and geared toward outreach, suspended Noor Ahmad Noor indefinitely on Monday following an exposé published last week by the Vartland newspaper on his antisemitic statements.
Various Minhaj-ul-Koran groups periodically turn up in the news for exactly this kind of nonsense, suggesting that their outreach is old fashioned dawa for the purpose of converting the gullible in Dar al Harb, reducing future need for the hard jihad of the sword. Clearly the claim of being moderate Muslims is bit of taqqiya for the rubes.
Noor had served for years as the branch’s director.

Police have launched an investigation into his remarks.

In one post from 2019, Noor wrote that Jews "put the world in danger" and it is "necessary to kill them."

In a short statement to the Norwegian media, Noor said: "My posts were published in frustration over attacks in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
. Innocent children and women were killed. My criticism and frustration should have been directed at the regime. And not against a group of people. I apologize."

As director of Minhaj-ul-Koran, he has participated in meetings and projects with top government officials, including cabinet ministers and Ivar Flaten, head of the Church Dialogue Center in Drammen, the Norwegian city where Noor lives.

Flaten initially defended Noor, speaking with the Vartland website, arguing dialogue occurs amid disagreements, but has since called the remarks "unacceptable, shocking."

In a statement, Minhaj-ul-Koran wrote: "These are attitudes and values we have zero tolerance for as a religious community. This is contrary to what we have been working for for decades."

Rojava hands over two ISIS-linked orphans to Palestinian consulate
[Rudaw] Two Paleostinian orphans whose parents were affiliated with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) have been handed over to the Paleostinian consulate in Erbil, an official from northeast Syria (Rojava) said on Wednesday.

"Two orphaned ISIS children from Paleostine were handed over to a delegation from the Paleostinian consulate in Erbil" on Wednesday, Abdulkarim Omar, the co-chair of Rojava’s Foreign Relations commission said in a tweet.

The Consulate General of the State of Paleostine in coordination with "northern Syria’s foreign affairs office, the two children Kawthar and Ahmad Sharih were received in the presence of their grandfather," the Consul General to Erbil Nazmi Hazouri told Rudaw.

"We thank the officials in the foreign affairs office, as well as the department of foreign relations in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for their great and inspiring cooperation in the success of this humanitarian mission," he added.

It is unclear from which camp the children were taken. The al-Hol and Roj camps, under Kurdish control, hold more than 60,000 people, most of whom have suspected ties to ISIS.

Al-Hol is home to more than 30,000 ISIS-linked foreign nationals, including more than 22,000 foreign children.

Syria’s Christian population reduced by two-thirds since 2011
[Rudaw] About two-thirds of Syria’s Christians have fled the country in the past decade of conflict in the country, according to data from an Assyrian political party.

Christians made up eight to ten percent of Syria’s population before the start of the civil war in 2011. Today that number has decreased to three percent, the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) told Rudaw. The party is close to the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
-backed Syrian opposition.

The number of Christians in the Kurdish-populated Jazira region in the very northeast of the country has decreased from 150,000 to around 55,000.

The data was confirmed by other Christian parties in Rojava. ADO obtained figures about Christians in regime-held areas from the Vatican.

group (ISIS). The Syriac Military Council is part of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and is a partner force of the global coalition against ISIS.

Politically, Syrian Christians, mostly Syriacs and Assyrians, are divided into three main parties. ADO is the oldest of them, operating since 1957. The Assyrian Democratic Party (ADP) and the Syriac Union Party (SUP) are close to the Kurdish authorities in northeast Syria (Rojava).

ADO and SUP have engaged in unity talks recently, hoping to strengthen their influence in the country.

"The talks which began a few months ago between Syriac and Assyrian parties continue. We have discussed a number of significant issues... We are working on finding a mechanism to increase coordination between parties," Gabriel Mushe, head of relations office for the ADO, told Rudaw on Monday.

Henna Sewime, a leadership member of the SUP, told Rudaw that they have discussed three main things during their talks: unity of Christians, a united Syria in the future, and the recognition of Christians in the future constitution of the country.

Lebanese parties to boycott parliament session aimed to derail Beirut blast probe
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Several Lebanese parties said on Wednesday they would boycott a parliamentary session called to discuss a proposal that critics say would effectively derail judicial efforts to question bigwigs over the Beirut port blast.

More than a year since the Aug. 4 blast, many Lebanese are furious that no bigwig has been brought to account for more than 200 lives lost and thousands of injuries.

With leading Christian and Druze groups planning to boycott, it was not clear if there would be enough MPs for quorum at the session called on Thursday by Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
The only item on the agenda is the petition from a group of MPs asking that the bigwigs including the caretaker prime minister be referred to a special council that hears cases against former presidents and ministers.

The Christian Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
said the petition was an attempt to obstruct the judicial probe. MPs aligned with Druze leader Walid Wally Jumblat
...Druze politician, head of the Progressive Socialist Party, who's been on every side in Leb at least four times. He'll sell you his friends for a dollar, but family comes higher because of shipping and handling...
said it would "obstruct reaching the truth".

If approved, the petition would first lead to a parliamentary inquiry, said Nizar Saghieh, head of The Legal Agenda, a research and advocacy organization.

The process could lead to a trial by the special council if two-thirds of MPs voted for one, he said, adding that the inquiry could go on indefinitely.

"The aim of the petition is to create a parallel parliamentary inquiry and consequently to confuse the judicial inquiry," he said.

The petition was lodged after investigating judge Tarek Bitar requested immunity be lifted from former Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, former Public Works Minister Ghazi Zeaiter and former Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk, all of whom are MPs.

It seeks permission for those three, in addition to caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab and Youssef Finianos, another former public works minister, to be referred to the special council.

All deny wrongdoing.
“Wudn’t us. Maybe Allah dunnit — ‘cause all that happens is his will.”
Khalil and Zeitar are both senior members of Berri’s Amal Movement and allies of the Iran-backed, Shiite group Hezbollah. Finianos belongs to a Christian faction that is allied to Hezbollah.

Hezbollah leader Sayyed His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
on Saturday accused Bitar on Saturday of playing politics, calling the investigation politicized.

Bitar has not commented on the accusation.

Enemies desperately inviting Iran to come to negotiations
[EN.MEHRNEWS] Today, the thought of Imam Hussein (PTUI!) has doubled the honor of the land of the Medes and the Persians in the world and the enemies are desperately inviting Iranians to come to the table of negotiation, Iranian Army’s second-in-command said. The relations of the countries have been influenced under the heavy shadow of the realism school of thought which is based on arrogance and hegemony, Deputy Commander of the Iranian Army Brigadier General Mohammad Hossein Dadras said Wednesday morning.

In fact, such a sinister school of thought considers power as the basis for determining the rights of countries in all fields, he added.

He went on to say that the Islamic school thought enjoys great role models such as Imam Hussein (PTUI!), a great figure who is the manifestation of endurance and resistance against arrogant powers and oppression.

"We also obey such a school of thought and consider this great figure as a role model", the Iranian Army’s second-in-command noted.

Today, the thought of Imam Hussein (PTUI!) has doubled the honor of the land of the Medes and the Persians in the world, Dadras said, adding that today the enemies are desperately inviting Iranians to come to the table of negotiation.

"On the other hand, some regional countries, supporting their American allies to achieve their interests, are weak and they are being humiliated by the United States", he added.
