Afghanistan
Biden Eyes Keeping US Troops in Afghanistan Until November
[ToloNews] President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier...
is considering keeping US troops in Afghanistan until November, rather than withdrawing them by a May 1 deadline outlined in the Doha agreement, NBC News reports, quoting two people familiar with the discussions.

In recent discussions with members of his national security team, Biden has pushed back against the Defense Department’s efforts to keep US troops in Afghanistan beyond May 1, one of the people said, as quoted by NBC News. But he has been persuaded to consider a six-month extension.

"Biden wants out," one of the people familiar with the discussions said, as quoted by NBC News. This person said Pentagon leaders have been making the case that the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
isn’t living up to its end of the agreement, describing the argument as "Look, you own this now, Mr. President, and we can’t guarantee you what will happen if we just precipitously pull everyone out."

The military has presented several options, including pulling troops out by or close to May 1, keeping troops in the country indefinitely or keeping troops in Afghanistan for a defined period to be determined by Biden, which could include a six-month extension, said a second person familiar with the matter, as quoted by NBC News.

"The decision is with the president," the person said.
It’ll be a while, unless someone tells him what he thinks.
According to NBC News, the people familiar with the administration’s deliberations said no decision has been made.

In an interview with ABC News that aired Wednesday, Biden said he was considering when US troops would leave Afghanistan and acknowledged that a full withdrawal by May 1 "is tough."

"I'm in the process of making that decision now as to when they'll leave," Biden said.

In response to the report, a Taliban front man told TOLOnews that the continuation of the US forces' presence in Afghanistan is against the Doha agreement and that violation of the deal will have "unpleasant" consequences.

This comes as representatives of Russia, China, the US and Pakistain in a joint statement said they would not support the return of the Islamic emirate system in Afghanistan.

The statement also recognized the will of the Afghan people for peace, called for a reduction in violence from all sides and for the Taliban to not launch a Spring offensive, and reiterated calls for a negotiated settlement for the conflict.

"As stated in the UNSC resolution 2513 (2020), we do not support the restoration of the Islamic Emirate and we call on the government of the Islamic and the High Council for National Reconciliation to engage openly with their Taliban counterparts regarding a negotiated settlement," the statement said.

The joint statement also called on participants in the intra-Afghan negotiations to engage immediately in discussions on fundamental issues to resolve the conflict.

U.S. 'Green Berets' Training Mozambican Marines
[AllAfrica] US Special Forces soldiers began training Mozambican marines this week, Colonel Richard Schmidt, the Deputy Commander of US Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA), announced in Maputo Monday (15 Mar).

With just a dozen Army Green Berets, the "program is modest in size and scope" notes the New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

abuses."

"A senior State Department official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, said the military training program, which will focus on basic soldiering skills, could lead to more ambitious American help for Mozambique’s military including combat casualty care, planning and logistics.

The United States is also looking to step up intelligence assistance for Mozambique, the official said," the Times reported. The Times also notes that "the insurgency in Mozambique includes some fighters from Tanzania, but most come from the local area, a place of deep poverty and endemic corruption. The main Islamic State

publications have not mentioned operations in Mozambique since last fall." Portugal is also anxious to send troops, and Defence Minister Joao Gomes Cravinho said last month that Portugal hopes to send 60 members of its special forces to train Mozambican marines and commandos.

More about Al Shabaab (Mozambique)’s Abu Yasir Hassan
[AllAfrica] The US on 10 March designated Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria - Mozambique (ISIS-Mozambique) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and the man it says is head of ISIS-Mozambique, Tanzanian Abu Yasir Hassan, as Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).

At the 11 March presser, John Godfrey was asked to provide evidence of ISIS links to the insurgency and that Abu Yasir Hassan is head, but he declined. He would only say that they had secret evidence. "I would say that the evidence of ties between the ISIS branch or network in Mozambique and the so-called ISIS-Core in Iraq and Syria is quite incontrovertible" which is "why the threat is particularly concerning for us." He added that "we're quite confident" that Abu Yasir Hassan "really is the leader of ISIS."

A subsequent US statement said "Abu Yasir Hassan, also known as Yaseer Hassan and Abu Qasim, was born in Pwani Region, Tanzania, between 1981 and 1983. The United States Government has assessed with a high degree of confidence that Hassan is the leader of ISIS-Mozambique." It is believed that Abu Yasir Hassan was one of the most influential leaders of al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
(as it is called locally) in Cabo Delgado, but before the group turned into armed violence.

He is one of the Tanzanian religious leaders who went to Cabo Delgado many years ago. He lived in Mocimboa da Praia until 2014/2015 and had links with radical groups in Congo. It is believed that he lived in Congo as well. But, despite US claims, it is unclear if he is a current leader of the group. Indeed, Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Tanzania, Simon Sirro, said on 12 March that their records showed Abu Yasir Hassan is dead. (The Citizen, Tanzania, 13 Mar) Godfrey made other statements that raise questions about the recentness of his evidence, in particularly stressing "a nexus between terrorism finance and narcotics trafficking in Mozambique that's particularly problematic." But all indications are that this is a myth - the insurgency has closed roads and beaches making the landing and movement of heroin and crystal meth impractical. So drug shipments have moved south to Nampula province, particularly Angoche, and no drugs are moving through Death Eater zones.

Analysts speaking to Zitamar (11 Mar) said Hassan "is understood to be one of a number of leaders of the Mozambican insurgency, and perhaps the leader of the Supreme Council of IS Mozambique - but remarked on the curiosity of the US designating just one person, and a Tanzanian at that, rather than any Mozambicans. That helps Mozambique’s (and in particular President Nyusi’s) narrative of the insurgency coming from outside the country, rather than having local roots. But prisoners that have beat feet from Death Eaters' main base Siri, do refer to the commanders as Tanzanians. Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, there was another explosion...
the Islamist connection is something the regime has always tried to avoid, under pressure from Mozambique’s influential Moslem community."

The US briefing transcript is here.

Libya's Justice Minister Working on Releasing Detainees
[LIBYAREVIEW] On Thursday, the newly-appointed Minister of Justice in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Halima Ibrahim Abdel-Rahman said that a committee, with international participation will be formed to work on releasing Libyan detainees in non-regular prisons. In a press statement, the ministry’s media office said that the committee will be formed within two weeks, and urge non-state bodies to release detainees from these prisons.

The Minister called on all non-state recognized bodies to quickly and unconditionally release all unlawfully imprisoned citizens. She stressed that the ministry will spare no effort to hold them responsible for these forced disappearances.

The minister obtained a bachelor’s degree in law, and was a member of the Libyan High Judicial Institute (HJI). She was then appointed to the Public Prosecution Office and then progressed in the Public Prosecution Authority, until she became Director of Public Prosecutions.

Abdel-Rahman also obtained a master’s degree in law from the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies. She then moved to the Libyan judiciary and worked as a judge in several departments, until she headed an appellate circuit in the Court of First Instance.

Human Rights Organisation: Erdogan & Al Sarraj Complicit in War Crimes in Libya
[LIBYAREVIEW] Head of the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) in Libya, Abdel Moneim al-Hurr stated that, "No one doubts the involvement of Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
in war crimes, and the commission of crimes against humanity in Libya."

In an interview with al-Arabiya al-Hadath channel, al-Hurr stressed the need to resort to international courts, such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) due to the inability of the Libyan judiciary to try those accused. He added that the charges include war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The AOHR Head pointed out that a case was recently filed to the ICC, and may need to be examined by the prosecutor’s office and then by the executive room, which might take months or years.

He pointed out that there are numerous crimes committed by foreign mercenaries who entered Libya’s conflict. He explained that the ICC public prosecutor must investigate such cases and send a fact-finding mission to Libya. He said that after that the file should be "referred to the executive department that examines the gravity of these violations and if it falls within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court."

The ICC’s admission of the complaint submitted by the Libyan Organization of Terrorism and Extremism Victims (LOOTAEV) under the name, "Ottoman Turkish aggression against Libya", has sparked many reactions.

The organization’s acceptance came after the complaint was submitted in cooperation with the Institute of Afro-Asian Graduate Studies, and reached the office of the ICC Prosecutor. The lawsuit charged President Erdogan and a number of leaders of the Ottoman Turkish military. It also charged the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj, several of his cabinet ministers, and militia leaders aligned with the GNA.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Armenia denounces Azerbaijan's war crimes
[NRTtv] SULAIMANI — Armenia on Friday (March 19) accused Azerbaijan of committing war crimes during their conflict last year over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, after Human Rights Watch said Azerbaijan had mistreated prisoners of war.

The ex-Soviet Caucasus countries had been locked for decades in a territorial dispute over the mountainous region in Azerbaijan, where fighting erupted in September, claiming the lives of some 6,000 people.

The six-week war ended after Azerbaijan made swift gains and Armenian capitulated to a Russian-brokered ceasefire under which it ceded swathes of territories to Baku.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in report Friday that Azerbaijani troops "abused Armenian prisoners of war..., subjecting them to cruel and degrading treatment and torture."

"Azerbaijan should also immediately release all remaining POWs and civilian detainees," the advocacy group said.

Armenian foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan said the report proved that Baku committed "large-scale war crimes against Armenian prisoners of war".

Turkey's Erdogan says Biden's comments about Putin are 'unacceptable'
[ALMASDARNEWS] Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass....

...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
brushed off the remarks, wishing Biden "good health."

spoke out in defense of President Putin on Friday, saying the US president’s remarks about him were "unacceptable" and that Putin gave a "splendid" response.

"Mr. Biden’s statements about Putin are not fitting of a president. Mr. Putin did what was necessary by giving a very clever, very elegant answer," Erdogan said, speaking to journalists after Friday prayers.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas: Jihad Is Over, 'Domestic Extremism' Most ‘Lethal and Persistent' Threat to U.S.
[PJ] As Antifa in Portland has announced more riots for tonight and tomorrow night, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas just claimed at a hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee that the most "lethal and persistent terrorism-related threat" that the country faces today is "domestic, ideologically motivated extremism." It should be clear to everyone by now that by that, he means us: Americans who don’t support the far-left agenda of the Biden administration, the Democrats, and the establishment media.

Mayorkas also brought some good news: the global jihad is so very 2002, and we’re beyond all that now. According to Forbes, he claimed that "since the September 11 attacks, the threat landscape against the U.S. has substantially ’evolved’ to the point that foreign terrorism is no longer the chief concern of DHS." That’s wonderful, but he should hope that the Islamic jihadis don’t hear about this and decide that he has handed them a golden opportunity to operate inside the United States while DHS is otherwise occupied.

Certainly Mayorkas had other things on his mind, as he claimed that the riot at the Capitol on January 6 was a "searing example" of the threat the nation faces today. In line with this, Forbes reported, "DHS announced in February that it would provide $77 million to state and local governments to combat domestic violent extremism. At the time Mayorkas wrote in a statement that ’the most significant terrorist threat facing the nation comes from lone offenders and small groups’ whose violent acts are motivated by ’extremist ideological beliefs.’"

That’s where the insidious nature of what Mayorkas is saying is clearest. Conspicuously lacking once again is any definition of what exactly constitutes "domestic, ideologically motivated extremism" or "extremist ideological beliefs." Is it support for violence and actual insurrection (as opposed to a leaderless, weaponless but politically useful riot such as took place on January 6)? Or is it simply holding views that dissent from the hard-left agenda?

#19  I have racked my brain for a way short of the Lexington & Concord moment to confront the proto-Marxist takeover of the federal government. The stolen election, the death of the central voice of conservative talk radio, the unrelenting media campaign against a President whose policies were near picture perfect but who was victim of his own folbles, and the invented "insurrection" of a peaceful public display of that was manipulated and then miscast as a violent attempt to disrupt the peaceful functions of Congress. All this is cast by the propaganda arm of the Marxists as a domestic terrorist/white-supremacist/insurrection movement. The voice of angry citizens seeking redress is what this evil man defines as the greatest threat to the US. I fear it is a self-fulfilling prophesy if we cannot pull back the nation from this tragedy. But, there is a way to circumvent their lock on the mainstream and social media and censorship of most information sources of government. Imagine the reaction of seeing 74 million pieces of mail delivered to Nancy Pelosi by legions of USPS trucks. Physical objects they cannot censor or prevent from being delivered under penalty of law. Nothing violent or even dangerous, but so vast a sea of paper that even CNN cannot pretend it isn't happening or why it is! Circumventing the tech giants and social media influencers with old school mail, a tangible display of public will and dissatisfaction that can be repeated endlessly without risk of being miscast as violent demonstration. Big Tech can't stop it, or prevent it, and the media can't hide it. We just need a central voice to coordinate it, much as Limbaugh did in days past. I struggle only to find who best fits that role?

#25  The DHS is another non-functioning TLA brought to us by George Bush and the current republican party, who also gave us John Roberts and the war in Afghanistan.

Never mind the Democrats demanded the creation of DHS or they'd block every means of defense and striking back at the jihadis.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS).

"The Joint Operations Command at Ain al-Assad Air Base received (36) thermal camera towers and a container containing (36) spare materials, in addition to (2) generators for each tower from the international coalition forces @CJTFOIR, which came according to a plan prepared by the Joint Operations Command and mutual coordination between the two sides," the spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, Yehia Rasool, said on Thursday evening.

Rouhani Warns Hardliners Against 'Betrayal'
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani
...Iran's moderate president, which he is, relative to his predecessor, which doesn't mean he's anything but a puppet of the nearest holy man...
accused hardline opponents on Wednesday of obstructing efforts to lift US sanctions.

"It is a great betrayal of the land of the Medes and the Persians if any faction or person delays the end of the sanctions even for one hour," Rouhani said in televised remarks.

Lebanese Are Gripped by Worry as Economic Meltdown Speeds up
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The Lebanese pound has lost more than 25% in value over the past weeks alone. Inflation and prices of basic goods have skyrocketed in a country that imports more than 80% of its basic goods. Purchasing power of salaries has dramatically declined and savings have evaporated — all on top of the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic and a massive explosion last August at Beirut’s port that damaged parts of the capital.

More than half the population now lives in poverty, according to the World Bank, while an intractable political crisis heralds further collapse, according to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Traders outraged over government rationing in Syria's Hama
[NPASYRIA] On Thursday, traders in Syria’s Hama expressed their resentment towards the intensive campaign by ration committees of the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in several markets in the city in turn for bribes.

According to previous reports, the city of Hama is witnessing corruption in many government departments, and officials extort bribes from residents and shop owners.

The ration committee roamed in the market and asked most of the traders to pay money for violating prices, Abdullah al-Kharsa (pseudonym), a trader in Ibn Rushd market in the city.

"This campaign aims to take money from traders; I paid 20,000 Syrian pounds (SYP) and my neighbor paid 27,000 SYP. Each one pays according to the violation that the committee threatens to write," he added.

Trader Na’il Bashor said that the committees threatened to shut down shops, at the same time they forced several traders to open their closed shops.

"Ration committee members threatened to write violations worth millions of SYP, but they did not after they took sums of money. We are forced to close our shops to avoid the loss," he added.

Merchants face problems in securing the goods that are sold at a price, and they buy them at double price, not to mention the difficulty of securing them again due to the accelerated collapse of the Syrian pound against the US dollar.

He pointed out that each hour, "companies issue new circulations and new price bulletins without any intervention by the Central Bank, to put an end to this rise, which is no longer possible."

Iran comments on possible discussion of 'handing over Soleimani's killers' with the US
Bold as brass. Do they think the Biden administration will hand over former president Trump?
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iranian Foreign Ministry front man Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that Iranian courts are carefully looking into the civil and criminal aspects of the liquidation case of General Qassem Soleimani
, and verdicts will be issued soon.In response to Sputnik Farsi’s question about whether Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
plans to raise the issue of handing over the "killers of Qassem Soleimani" with the new administration to Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass....
, the Iranian official said:

"Solving the case of the martyrdom of General Qassem Soleimani was one of the most important matters for Iran from the first day of this tragedy. Iranian courts have carefully considered the civil and criminal aspects of the case. Judgments will be issued very soon, and we will announce the names of all the criminals and those involved, which will be easier for Iran, according to international law."

The spokesperson continued, "There is no doubt that the main party involved in the case is the United States, and more specifically, former President Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
, and all the people of his administration are involved in this treacherous murder. They are among the main accused in this case. Therefore, we will go to the end in this case and solve this problem with the United States in all possible legal ways. "

Soleimani, alongside the Deputy Head of the Popular Mobilization Units, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis, was assassinated near Baghdad International Airport on January 3rd in a dronezap carried out by the US.

Following the liquidations of Soleimani and Mohandis, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran fired several rockets at two Iraqi bases hosting the US forces.

'I have information that there are external and internal parties pushing Lebanon towards a civil war': Nasrallah
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Secretary General of Hezbollah, His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
, said during a new broadcast that he had information indicating that external parties and some internal parties are pushing Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
towards a civil war.In his speech on Thursday, Nasrallah said: "It is not permissible under the heading of an economic or political crisis to allow anyone to push Lebanon into war."

"I have information that there are external and internal parties pushing Lebanon towards a civil war," he said.

He continued, "The crisis in which we are in has several causes, and if we want to address one cause and ignore the rest of the causes, that will not lead to a result."

He explained that there are those who are pushing towards a civil war in Lebanon, "as that happened in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan," stating that "many examples from Yemen, Syria and Iraq about the operation of US intelligence for ISIS and takfiri

groups to destroy countries and armies, so that Israel becomes the refuge and crown of crown in this region."

Nasrallah said that "forming the government is the first step in order to reach solutions," stressing, "we have accepted a government of non-partisan specialists, and if the two presidents (the Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri
...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too....
and Lebanese President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
) agree next Monday on such a government, we will proceed with that."

He added that "the government of specialists, if it is not protected by political forces, will fall."

The Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri said after his meeting on Thursday with President Michel Aoun that the priority is to form a government to stop the economic collapse and resume talks with the International Monetary Fund.
