Minneapolis cops issue open letter condemning Derek Chauvin
[NYPOST] A group of Minneapolis coppers have issued a public letter condemning the former cop charged in George Floyd’s death — and saying they are prepared to back their chief’s vow to overhaul the beleaguered department, according to a report.

The 14 officers addressed their letter, which they released Thursday, to "Dear Everyone — but especially Minneapolis citizens," saying it represents how the "vast majority" of their fellow cops feel, the Star Tribune reported.

"We wholeheartedly condemn Derek Chauvin. We Are With You in the denouncement of Derek Chauvin’s actions on Memorial Day, 2020," the letter reads.

"Like us, Derek Chauvin took an oath to hold the sanctity of life most precious. Derek Chauvin failed as a human and stripped George Floyd of his dignity and life. This is not who we are," it continues.

"We Are With You and want to communicate a sentiment that is broad within our ranks. We ask that our voices be heard. We are leaders, formal and informal, and from all ranks within the Minneapolis Police Department," the group goes on.

"We’re not the union or the administration. We are officers who represent the voices of hundreds of other Minneapolis Police Officers. Hundreds," they write.

#2  The trial could be very interesting. I will bet dollars to doughnuts that the tactics he used are prescribed in the MPD training manual and are taught at the MPD training academy. I know "following orders" is not a defense after Nuremburg. But I do wonder just how the prosecution and/or the jury would respond to a pretty thorough expose of the MPD policies and procedures...or what political fallout there might be (one can hope.)

#3  I know "following orders" is not a defense after Nuremburg.

That's not the same thing. That is, the defense will bring up stats: the hold was used 10,000 with zero fatalities. In fact, I'm sure the hold was used on George Floyd before.

Twitter removes thousands of Turkey's AKP-linked accounts for 'inauthentic activity', 175,000 Chinese
[Rudaw] Twitter announced late Thursday that it had removed over 7,000 accounts linked to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) from the platform, for "employing coordinated inauthentic activity."

The removal of accounts from a pro-AKP network associated with the party's "young wing" formed part of Twitter's international crackdown on "state-linked information operations", for which the social media platform said it is creating a publicly accessible archive.

"Based on our analysis of the network’s technical indicators and account behaviors, the collection of fake and compromised accounts was being used to amplify political narratives favorable to the AK Parti [AKP], and demonstrated strong support for President Erdogan. We’re disclosing 7,340 accounts to the archive today," read Twitter's statement.

Twitter said that they were able to detect a network of accounts in early 2020 "employing coordinated inauthentic activity, which was primarily targeted at domestic audiences within Turkey."

The removed accounts included those that were originally associated with "organizations critical of President Erdogan and the Ottoman Turkish Government" that have been "repeated targets of account hacking and takeover efforts by the state actors identified above".

Accounts linked to the Communist Party of China (CCP) and the United Russia party were also subject to removal. In total, 32,242 accounts were sent to the archive — "the only one of its kind in the industry," Twitter said.

"Every account and piece of content associated with these operations has been permanently removed from the service," the statement added.

As per Twitter’s rules, accounts are permanently removed if they are engaged in "bulk, aggressive, or deceptive activity that misleads others and/or disrupts their experience."

In curtailment of freedom of expression, Ankara monitors social media — especially Twitter — to detect posts critical of government policies. Scores of people have been detained for their posts on social media regarding Turkey’s recent cross-border operations against Kurdish forces in Syria.

An official from Erdogan's office slammed Twitter's action, calling it an attempt to "smear" Ankara.

"The company's allegations that those accounts were 'fake' profiles designed to support the President and that they were single-handedly managed by a central authority are untrue," said Fahrettin Altun, communications director for the Ottoman Turkish Presidency.

"Its attempt to smear the Government of Turkey and a popular political movement [AKP] is unacceptable."

Related: The Chinese Communist Party has weaponized nearly 175,000 Twitter accounts to disseminate “state-linked” propaganda while Russia, the left’s boogeyman for pro-Trump election interference, had under 1,200 accounts.

‘Sanctuary Hotel’ evicts those given refuge from riots after every room is trashed; squatters plan to stay
[BIZPACREVIEW] The owner of the vacant Sheraton Minneapolis Midtown Hotel opened its doors last week as a sanctuary for people trying to avoid the Black Lives Matter riots, to include left-wing activists and the homeless.

The hotel, which was heavily damaged during the riots, quickly became a homeless commune and community organizers launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise well over $100,000, with carloads of other donations pouring in, the Star Tribune reported.

But those who took refuge, reportedly over 200 people, are now being kicked to the curb as they’ve turned the hotel into a shantytown marked by squalor and rampant drug use.

Seattle police chief blasts city officials, says leaving precinct ‘not my decision’
[NYPOST] Seattle’s police chief told her department Thursday it was "not my decision" to abandon a precinct in an area of the city taken over by protesters — and blasted city officials for giving in to the demonstrators. In a video address published on the department’s YouTube page, Chief Carmen Best said the city "relented to severe public pressure."

"You fought for days to protect [the precinct]. I asked you to stand on that line. Day in and day out, to be pelted with projectiles, to be screamed at, threatened and in some cases hurt," Best told the force.

"Then to have a change of course nearly two weeks in, it seems like an insult to you and our community."

"Ultimately the city had other plans for the building and relented to severe public pressure," she added. "I’m angry about how this all came about."

Her comments came a day after the department said it would try to reopen the East Precinct.

CONFIRMED: Vandal behind racist graffiti at Salisbury University … is black
[The College Fix] Salisbury University experienced massive racial unrest after a series of racist graffiti was discovered on campus over the course of the 2019-20 school year.

The public, Maryland-based university canceled classes for a “day of healing” and hired a new associate vice president for diversity and inclusion at a cost of $140,000 annually.

Authorities have had a suspect since February but refused comment to The College Fix on details. Turns out, the vandal is black.

Jerome Kevin Jackson, 54, is set to plead guilty June 12 to maliciously defacing school property “while exhibiting racial animosity,” according to a news release from the Office of the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County published Monday.
MSN adds:
Jackson has no known connection to campus, according to a Monday statement from Salisbury University.

If the case were to go to trial, the document shows prosecutors would "demonstrate beyond all reasonable doubt" Jackson defaced campus property Oct. 8, 10, and 22, and Nov. 4 in 2019, as well as Feb. 19, 2020.

Jackson will be charged with one count of "maliciously defacing property while exhibiting racial animosity," though the agreement stipulates that he accepts responsibility for the offenses committed on all of the above dates "so that the University can begin to heal."

The agreement requires he pay $494 — the amount it cost to clean the graffiti — in restitution to the university, and prosecutors plan to recommend he serve 18 months of active incarceration.

US-Iraq strategic dialogue culminates in commitment to reduce American troops in Iraq
[Rudaw] The US and Iraq agreed to reduce the number of American troops in Iraq in the coming months in the first round of the bilateral strategic dialogue.

The first talks of their kind in a decade, the strategic dialogue kicked off in an online session on Thursday to discuss several issues, including the Iraqi economy and the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

In a joint statement by both countries, published by the US Department of State on early Friday, it was revealed that one outcome of the talks is a US-commitment to continue withdrawing troops from the country in the near future.

Denmark to send additional 285 military personnel to Iraq 20 hours ago
[Rudaw] In its capacity with the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
mission in the country, Denmark will deploy 285 military personnel to Iraq to train and advise Iraqi security forces fighting against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) remnants, according to a Danish foreign ministry statement released Thursday.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) training mission in Iraq began in October 2018 and is currently led by Canada. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
Denmark offered to take charge of NATO’s training mission in Iraq for a period of 18 months starting in 2021 last November.

"Danish leadership of NATO's Mission in Iraq will strengthen the ability of Iraqi security forces to provide the country's own security for the benefit of Iraq's people," Danish foreign minister Jeppe Kofod said in a statement on Thursday. "By strengthening our contribution to stabilizing Iraq, we both reduce the risk of new refugee crises while increasing our protection against the threat posed by terrorist groups such as ISIS."

The Danish parliament agreed on Thursday to send up to 195 staff and military equipment, including a ship and helicopter to the Strait of Hormuz for a four months period starting from August 2020, according to the statement.

NATO decided to launch a training mission in Iraq in 2018, involving around 500 troops with the aim of building the capacity of the country’s armed forces to better fight ISIS.

The organization announced it was preparing to shift troops from the US-led coalition to defeat ISIS to the alliance earlier this year.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
following the US dronezap on January 3 which killed top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad airport, the Iraqi parliament passed a non-binding resolution demanding the expulsion of all foreign forces, and the NATO operation was placed on hold.

Iraq decided in January to review its security relationship with the US-led coalition by attempting to reach a new security agreement with NATO.

In this new deal, foreign troops would remain in Iraq under the control of NATO. Their role would be limited to training and advising, and would no longer be permitted to carry out ground operations.

Last month, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kadhimi invited NATO’s Secretary-General to visit Baghdad "as soon as possible" to discuss ways of increasing collaboration with the NATO mission in Iraq.

There are fears a premature withdrawal of foreign troops could allow ISIS to resurge.

ISIS has increased its attacks and insurgencies in different areas of western and northern Iraq against Iraqi security forces recently, which comes after US-led coalition troops withdrew from six military bases in western and northern Iraq in the space of a month during March and April.

Iraq’s new Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has placed tackling ISIS high on his list of priorities.

The leader placed providing more military equipment and weaponry to security forces "in order to face the increased ISIS activities in liberated provinces [once under the group's territorial control]," on his agenda published on May 6.

Formed in 2014 after ISIS swept across large areas of Syria and Iraq, the 82-country coalition has supported Iraqi and Peshmerga forces with training, equipment, and air cover.

ISIS was declared territorially defeated in Iraq in December 2017. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
remnants of the group continue to wage a low level insurgency, launching ambushes, kidnappings, and assassinations.

US has withdrawn half of its forces from Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] The United States confirmed on Friday that it will discuss with the Iraqi government the status of its remaining military forces, stressing that it does not seek military bases or a permanent military presence in Iraq.

According to a joint statement of the first session of the strategic dialogue, Washington and Baghdad announced the continuation of the talks on the status of the remaining American forces in Iraq, where the two countries’ focus is towards developing a normal security relationship based on common interests.

The governments of the two countries said in the statement that "in light of the significant progress made towards eliminating the threat from ISIS, the United States will continue in the coming months to reduce its forces in Iraq."

The United States also confirmed that it is not seeking to establish permanent bases or a permanent military presence in Iraq, as agreed previously in the 2008 Strategic Framework Agreement, which states that security cooperation is based on mutual agreements.

The U.S. pointed out that they had already withdrawn half of their forces from Iraq since the start of the new year.

For its part, the government of Iraq is committed to protecting the military forces of the International Alliance, and the Iraqi facilities that host them in line with international law and relevant arrangements regarding the presence of those forces and in the form that will be agreed upon between the two countries.

It is noteworthy to mention that the Iraqi Council of Representatives had voted in January in an extraordinary session in the presence of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, on a decision obliging the government to work to end the request for assistance submitted to the international coalition led by Washington and end any presence of foreign forces on Iraqi soil.

US ‘will soon bow before the Iranian people’: FM spox.
Utterly adorable. I suppose it’s understandable, though, if his intelligence people read the New York Times.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s front man Abbas Mousavi said that the United States will soon bow to the will of the Iranian people.

Mousavi posted a new tweet to him on his official Twitter account on Friday morning, stating that Washington is pleased by economic terrorism because its policies are based on choking the people.

Abbas Mousavi continued: "You did not succeed in breaking the necks of the Iranian people, but we broke your knee ... You will soon bow before the Iranian people."

Mousavi tweeted in response to what U.S. envoy to Iran, Brian Hook, said on Thursday about his country’s optimism towards extending the arms embargo to Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and the pressures and embargo imposed on the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Iran has repeatedly warned the U.S. about attempting to extend the arms embargo, which would prevent the Islamic Theocratic Republic from acquiring foreign arms for a period of time.
