Bolton: Trump Administration ‘Has No Blind Trust in the Taliban'.... or anyone else
[Breitbart] U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton recently confirmed that President Donald Trump’s administration is planning to leave behind a residual counterterrorism American force in Afghanistan to ensure the Taliban keeps its promises if the United States pulls its military out of the country as part of ongoing peace negotiations.

Earlier this year, President Trump expressed an interest in leaving behind a small U.S. military force that can potentially ensure the Taliban keeps its word of not allowing Afghanistan to serve as a safe haven for international terrorists like the group’s ally al-Qaeda and rival the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL).

Bolton spoke to CNN in an interview that aired Sunday, amid the latest round of peace negotiations in Qatar between the United States and the Taliban that have been taking place since last week.

No blind trust in the Taliban in U.S. administration: John Bolton
[KhaamaPress] The National Security Adviser of the United States John Bolton has said there is no blind trust in Taliban

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
to find a negotiated settlement for the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan with Taliban demanding full withdrawal of foreign forces.

Speaking to CNN, Bolton said President Trump has decided that it is going to be important to try to keep a counter-terrorism presence in Afghanistan and that is a central part of these discussions.

"I can tell you that senior national security officials have been discussing this issue and how to try to bring it about, how to support the diplomacy but follow our counter-terrorism objectives continuously we will be doing some more of it this week, it is a very important point, we putting a lot of energy in it but there is no blind trust in the Taliban in this administration, that is for sure," he added.

This comes as negotiations are underway between the U.S. and Taliban representatives in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The Taliban has long been emphasizing on complete withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan as the main condition of the group to join grinding of the peace processor and end the conflict in Afghanistan.

300 Russian mercenaries fighting for warlord Khalifa Haftar in Libya, western news reports say
[Libya Observer] Hundreds of mercenaries linked to Russian military intelligence have been backing the self-styled army of warlord Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
in eastern Libya, The Telegraph has reported.

The British daily newspaper quoted Whitehall sources as saying that "private military company Wagner Group has been supporting Khalifa Haftar with 300 personnel in Benghazi and has supplied his army with artillery, tanks, drones and ammunition."

"They are trying to secure the deep-water ports of Tobruk and Derna for the Russian Fleet and also could control the flow of oil to southern Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
if they take over Libya's energy industry", the source added.

The Wagner Group is linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin (red-circled in photo), a businessman known as "Putin's chef" who was sanctioned by the United States after his online troll factory interfered in the 2016 election.

Prigozhin was filmed sitting at a table with Haftar and Russia's defence minister during talks in November. Flight tracking data showed a private jet linked to Prigozhin repeatedly came on the radar heading to or from Libyan airspace, most recently in January.

According to other western reports, Russia has set up two military bases in eastern Libya.

Libya's Al-Sirraj ends his Chief of Staff's military career after rank reduction
[Libya Observer] The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez al-Sirraj has issued two decrees degrading the military rank of the Chief of Staff Abdelrahman al-Taweel to Brigadier General - which is his rank before al-Sirraj promoted him - and ending his military service effective immediately.

Al-Taweel made news two days ago when he rejected his dismissal by al-Sirraj, saying he won't hand over his post to his replacement "Mohammed al-Sharif," and that al-Sirraj dismissed him in an individual decision "and that is illegal."

Al-Sirraj sacked al-Taweel last February and replaced him with Mohammed al-Sharif.

On Monday, al-Sirraj met with commanders of Sabha, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, and western military zones to discuss the developments in the different regions.

According to the statement after the meeting, al-Sirraj who is described as "The Commander in Chief of the Libyan Army." has been briefed about the military and security statuses in those regions.

Swedish prime minister refuses to strip citizenship: "ISIS fighters can return"
[Voice of Europe] Stefan Löfven, Sweden’s Prime Minister and the leftist Socialist Party leader has ruled out the possibility of stripping Swedish Islamic State Fighters of their citizenships, and has said that they have the right to come back to the country.

Nyheter Idag recently reported that Löfven stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously warned those who were traveling in and around the region in which IS had been fighting, that those individuals who were captured shouldn’t anticipate any assistance from the Swedish government at a consular level.

The prime minster did, however, state that he would refrain from stripping the Islamic State fighters of their Swedish citizenship, asserting that it was their right to return to the country if they desired. He then said that upon their return, it would be up to the intelligence service and law enforcement to keep track of the returning terrorists whereabouts and to potentially arrest and prosecute them.

Löfven’s statement lies in stark contrast with what right-wing populist leader of the Sweden Democrats, Jimmie Åkesson, had to say regarding the issue. Åkesson stated, "If they choose to travel away to support the terrorist organisation Islamic State, in my opinion, they have used up all of their rights to call themselves Swedish. Then they should also not be a citizen."

In a reaction to the comments given by Löfven, Paula Bierler, the Sweden Democrat’s migration policy spokeswomen, agreed with Åkesson, writing, "The people who left Sweden to join the Islamic State should be considered to have terminated their Swedish citizenship."

Pentagon recommends not delivering F-35s to Turkey if they receive S-400s
[ALMASDARNEWS] US General Curtis Scaparrotti told senators in the Senate Armed Services Committee that he doesn’t recommend delivering F-35 jets to Ankara if it doesn’t abort the S-400 missile defence deal with Russia. Scaparrotti is the current head of the United States European Command.

The general noted that he, as a military officer, doesn’t advise allowing the top US jets to be used in countries that operate Russian military systems, especially air defence systems.

"If they accept the S-400 and establish it within The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, there is an issue [...] that has to do with the F-35. It presents a problem to all of our aircraft, but specifically the F-35. My best military advice would be that we don’t follow through with the F-35[delivery], flying it or working with an ally that’s working with Russian systems, particularly air defence systems", he said.

The other issue that Scaparrotti raised was the fact that Russian air defence systems are not interoperable with the existing integrated air and missile defence systems set up by NATO

allies.

At the same time, Scaparrotti noted that Turkey remains an important strategic ally for the US, with 334 open foreign military sales (FMS) cases worth over $9.9 billion in total.

"These sales are important components of the broad US-NATO effort to ensure interoperability of equipment and combined training in Western tactics, techniques and procedures", the general said.

Turkey facing consequences of failed policy in Syria: ex-Turkish FM
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

made a series of political miscalculations during the Syrian crisis, former Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis told Sputnik, adding that Ankara had to deal with the consequences of those mistakes at the present time.

"Turkey committed several mistakes in its policies during the Syrian crisis. One of the mistakes was putting all our eggs in one basket which is something that should be avoided in diplomacy. Turkey did not follow this rule and built its policy based on the assumption that Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
would leave his post soon. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
this assumption was incorrect and now Turkey has to suffer the consequences", the former foreign minister said.

Turkey’s second mistake, according to Yakis, was the severing of diplomatic ties and communication channels with Syria.

Yakis also spoke about Turkey’s alleged role in training armed opposition in Syria and providing those groups with weapons, which was widely covered by international and Ottoman Turkish media but had never been officially acknowledged by the Ottoman Turkish government.

"When the western powers saw that the weapons that they were sent to Syria were ending up in the hands of krazed killer groups, they stopped exporting them. But Turkey stalled and as a result, to use football terminology, it ended up ’offside,’ turning into a transit country, through which arms and jihadists traveled to Syria", Yakis said.

In 2011, soon after the anti-government protests erupted into a violent uprising in Syria, then Ottoman Turkish Prime Minister Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
, who is the incumbent Ottoman Turkish leader, called for Assad’s resignation.

Following the protests and conflict, Syria descended into a seven-year civil war, during which Turkey openly supported the rebel groups fighting against Assad’s government. As a result, the previously friendly relations between Ankara and Damascus have soured due to the fact that Assad has managed to remain in power.

Pak Minister sacked over ‘anti-Hindu’ remarks
[Daily Excelsior] Pakistain’s Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

province Government today sacked its Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan over his anti-Hindu remarks that invited intense criticism from senior party leaders and the minority community.

Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
took serious notice of Chohan’s ’anti-Hindu’ remarks and directed Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to remove him forthwith, party sources said.

"PTI Punjab Government has removed Fayyaz Chohan from the post of Punjab Information Minister following derogatory remarks about the Hindu community," official twitter account of Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
tweeted.

It further said: "Bashing someone’s faith should not be a part of any narrative. Tolerance is the first & foremost pillar on which #Pakistain was built."

A front man for Punjab Chief Minister said Chohan submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister which was immediately accepted.

According to a senior Government official, the Chief Minister had "forgiven" Chohan after he publicly apologised for his remarks, but the Prime Minister directed Buzdar to immediately remove him from the Ministry.

Chohan had come under severe criticism from senior members of his party, Ministers and social media users with #SackFayazChohan trending on Twitter for his controversial remarks while addressing a gathering on February 24 in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack.

Earlier in the day, Chohan apologised for his remarks following intense criticism.

"I was addressing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian armed forces and their media not the Hindu community in Pakistain," he said.

"I apologise if my remarks hurt the Hindu community in Pakistain," Chohan said. "My remarks were in no way directed at Pakistain’s Hindu community."

The Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf Government "will not tolerate this nonsense", party leader Naeemul Haque, who is Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs had said on Monday night in response to Chohan’s remarks.

UN again defers report on companies with Israeli settlement ties
The article doesn’t say, but one suspects the heavy, unsubtle hand of President Trump waving a veto in the background.
[AlAhram] Publication of a U.N. database of companies with business ties to Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank has been delayed again, drawing the ire of activists who have campaigned for three years.
The issue is highly sensitive as companies appearing in such a database could be targeted for boycotts or divestment aimed at stepping up pressure on Israel over its West Bank settlements, which most countries and the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
view as illegal. Goods produced there include fruit, vegetables and wine.

Israel has assailed the database, whose creation was agreed by the U.N. Human Rights Council in March 2016, as a "blacklist".

Michelle Bachelet, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, said on Tuesday that despite progress made since launching the study, further work was needed due to the "novelty of the mandate and its legal, methodological and factual complexity".

Her office aimed to finalize and issue the study "in coming months", she said in a letter to the Human Rights Council.

Activists voiced outrage, noting that Bachelet’s predecessor, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, had already delayed its publication in 2017 before stepping down in August 2018.

"Israeli authorities’ brazen expansion of illegal settlements underscores why the UN database of businesses facilitating these settlements needs to be published," Bruno Stagno Ugarte of Human Rights Watch said in a statement.

"Each delay further entrenches corporate involvement in the systematic rights abuses stemming from illegal settlements," he said, calling for Bachelet to commit to a clear publication date.

Paleostinian rights groups and trade unions, in a letter dated Feb. 28, had urged Bachelet to publish the database, saying that further delays would undermine her office and foster what they called an "existing culture of impunity for human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
abuses and internationally recognized crimes in the OPT (Occupied Paleostinian Territory)".

The World Jewish Congress said its CEO, Robert Singer, had met Bachelet last month and urged the cancellation of the database. The New York-headquartered group welcomed the delay to publication, saying in a statement the report should be put off for good as it would financially hurt thousands of employees, both Israeli and Paleostinian, of targeted companies.

In November, home-renting company Airbnb said it would remove listings in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, a move that Israel called a "wretched capitulation" to boycotters and Paleostinians hailed as a step towards peace.

Israel captured the West Bank in a 1967 war. Its settlements there are considered illegal by most world powers. Paleostinians deem the settlements, and the military presence needed to protect them, to be obstacles to their goal of establishing a state. Israel disputes this.

Iraq
US blacklists Iraq’s Iran-backed Harakat al-Nujaba militia
[Rudaw] The US Treasury on Tuesday blacklisted Harakat al-Nujaba, an Iran-backed militia that is part of the Hashd al-Shaabi.

The group is made up of Iraqis, but is known to have close ties to Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah and has been active in both Iraq and Syria.

Harakat al-Nujaba rejects American military presence in Iraq and its members have said US forces stationed in the country should be targeted.

The militia was formed in 2013 by Akram al-Kaabi who had previously been a leader within another Iran-backed Shiite militia, the Asaib Ahl al-Haq. He was designated a terrorist by the US Treasury in 2008.

Harakat al-Nujaba claims to have 10,000 members, according to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and is believed to be playing a role in expanding Iranian influence across Iraq and Syria as part of the so-called "Shiite crescent."

In 2017, a bill introduced into the US Congress sought to impose terror-related sanctions on both Harakat al-Nujaba and Asaib Ahl al-Haq based on allegations they were funded and armed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), Iran’s Quds Force, and Lebanese Hezbollah.

Washington’s move against the militia comes amid calls from Iraqi politicians for some 5,000 US forces to quit the country. The anti-American sentiment grew after gaffs made by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
who visited American troops at a base west of Baghdad without meeting with any Iraqi officials and then later said he wanted US forces in Iraq to "watch" Iran.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has defended the US presence, saying they are here at the invitation of Baghdad.

Shiite MPs have vowed to table legislation in the parliament demanding foreign troops withdraw from Iraq. Abdul-Mahdi has said he will respect whatever parliament decides.

Iraqi President Barham Salih said on Monday that US forces are in Iraq with a limited mission ‐ to "train and empower" Iraqi forces and nothing more.

"The American elements, or the International Coalition that came to Iraq, came to Iraq based on the invitation of the Iraqi government and on understandings about the mission to train Iraqi forces and empower Iraqi forces in its war against terror," he told news hounds.

"Any action different from this goal and work is absolutely unacceptable on the Iraqi side," he declared.

Stressing that the issue is a "dangerous national security topic," he said he hopes it won’t be manipulated for short-term political gain.

ISIS was declared defeated in Iraq in 2017, but the group maintains thousands of members and carries out frequent attacks against civilians and security forces, especially in security gaps between Iraqi and Peshmerga forces in the disputed areas.

Salih said that Iraq’s security and illusory sovereignty must remain the primary focus for decision-makers.

Iraq maintains good ties with its neighbour Iran and has refused to become embroiled in disputes between Tehran and Washington, a point reiterated by the president.

"We want to insulate our country from rivalries and absurd disputes engulfing this region. We want Iraq to be the field where interests meet between countries and the peoples of this region," he said.

Many analysts are fearful that a premature US withdrawal, like what occurred in 2011, could usher in a new security collapse and give ISIS the opportunity to reform.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Waqf rejects Israeli court order to shutter Temple Mount’s Gate of Mercy
[IsraelTimes] Islamic trust wants site open for Moslem worshipers, ban on officials revoked, despite Israel’s ultimatum to close troubled area by Monday, setting up possible showdown.

The Islamic authority that oversees Moslem holy sites in Jerusalem rejected Tuesday an Israeli court order to close a contested religious area that has ignited tension between Paleostinian worshipers and Israeli police in recent weeks.

Sheikh Abdelazeem Salhab, chairman of the Waqf Council appointed under agreement with Israel by neighboring Jordan, said that the area in Jerusalem’s Old City beside the Gate of Mercy would "remain open for Moslems to pray," despite Israel’s ultimatum to close the site by next Monday.

Salhab’s refusal could set up a showdown with Israeli authorities on the sensitive esplanade where moves by either side can quickly inflame regional tensions.

Salhab demanded that Israel permit the Waqf to renovate the site and revoke orders banning dozens of Waqf officials, guards and worshipers from the compound.

Jordan’s Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, which oversees the Waqf, condemned the Israeli move, calling it an "escalation of the attack on Bab al-Rahma," Jordan’s Petra news agency reported, using the Arabic name for the Gate of Mercy.

Committee head Abdullah Kanaan accused Israel of using "aggression against Jerusalem and sanctities for electoral purposes."

Israel is due to hold national elections on April 9.

The Gate of Mercy, or Golden Gate, was sealed by Israeli authorities in 2003 because the group managing the area had ties to Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,, and it has been kept closed to stop illegal construction work there by the Islamic Waqf, which acts as custodian of the site on behalf of Jordan and the Paleostinian Authority.

Israeli officials believe the work carried out by the Waqf, which refused to allow any Israeli observers, led to the destruction of antiquities from periods of Jewish presence in the area.

Last month the Waqf reopened the site and Paleostinian worshipers have begun to use it as a mosque, despite Israeli attempts to keep the area sealed.

The Waqf has repeatedly challenged the closure, convening and staging prayer-protests in the area that often erupted into festivities with police.

Russian satellites uncover cemetery with 300 fresh graves near Syria’s Rukban refugee camp
Moscow (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Russian satellites’ images have uncovered a cemetery with 300 fresh graves near the Rukban refugee camp in Syria, Russia’s Defense Ministry told journalists on Tuesday.

"A fresh cemetery with 300 fresh graves has been uncovered on the southern side immediately outside the camp’s fence," Tass quoted the ministry as saying.

According to the ministry, the cemetery and other proof of the refugees’ stay in the camp were registered by the satellite images made several days ago.

The satellite data suggest that most structures in the Rukban camp are makeshift settlements and unfit for the living of people in the winter period and a part of refugees simply had to live under open shelters.

The Rukban camp is surrounded by a mound and a fence.

"Actually, the Rukban camp has long lost its status and turned into a reservation area where hostages are held forcibly," Russia’s Defense Ministry pointed out.

US forces will remain in western Raqqa near Syrian Army front-lines
[ALMASDARNEWS] The U.S. Armed Forces will remain in the strategic Tabaqa area of northern Syria in the future, an official from the administration of Tabaqa told Kurdistan 24 on Tuesday.

Speaking to Kurdistan 24, Sheikh Hamad al-Faraj, co-chairman of Tabqa’s legislative council, told the news agency that the U.S. military "assured us that they would stay."

"So that’s a good sign," al-Faraj said. "After we eradicate ISIS, we need to worry about internal security, we need a lot of training and help."

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
despite talks with the Syrian government, it appears the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will not be handing over the Tabaqa Dam or the city to Damascus.

Al-Faraj is the leader of the al-Wilde tribe, which is the biggest tribe in western al-Raqqa.

The al-Wilde tribal leader told Kurdistan 24 that he opposes the return of the Syrian government to Tabaqa.

"The population has multiplied [in Tabqa]. We have to reassure displaced people who flee regime-held territories to our area, that the US is going to stay and will enforce stability," he added.
