Tripoli regime's Ghirani welcomed as official Libyan foreign minister by Qatar
[Libya Herald] The "foreign minister" in the internationally unrecognised Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
administration, Mohammed El-Ghirani, has been welcomed as Libya's foreign minister in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
where he had talks yesterday with its foreign minister Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah.

Qatar, along with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, is regularly accused by the House of Representatives and the internationally recognised government of Abdullah Thinni in Beida of actively supporting the Tripoli regime.

Officially, Qatar's policy towards Libya is that of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), of which it is a member -- that the House of Representatives is the legitimate parliament and the Thinni administration the legitimate government. Last December, the GCC, meeting in Doha, issued an explicit statement of support for the HoR and the government.

Yesterday, however, the state-run Qatar news agency QNA referred to Ghirani as Al-Attiyah's "Libyan counterpart". It said the two sides has discussed the latest developments in Libya. According to the Libya Observer, which supports the Tripoli administration, Ghirani was expected to have other meetings with Qatari officials "to boost the mutual relations between Libya and Qatar in many fields".

On Friday, the head of the Tripoli administration, Khalifa Ghwell was again in Ankara for talks with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. He was last in Turkey at the end of June. Friday's discussion focused on Ankara's decision to impose visas on visiting Libyans, which Ghwell tried to get the Turks to lift, and the issue of Turkish companies returning to work in Libya.

The two visits are likely to intensify attacks on Qatar and Turkey by the HoR and the Thinni government.

Attorney General to auction Ibrahim Jadran oil smuggling tanker ''Morning Glory''
[Libya Herald] Libya's Attorney General (AG) has announced that the Ibrahim Jadran oil tanker ''Morning Glory'' is to be put up for auction.

It will be recalled that the then North Korean-flagged oil tanker had illegally loaded oil at the Sidra oil export terminal in March 2014.

The AG's Office is accusing ''gangs'' of using the oil tanker of to attempt to illegally export oil . . .

Nigeria President Says Military 'Gaining Ground' against Boko Haram
[ALMANAR.LB] Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said great strides had been made in the fight against Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, rounding on critics lamenting a lack of progress against the murderous Moslems.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari"I think if you have been listening hard enough or if you have been to the northeast (of Nigeria), the military is really gaining ground," the 72-year-old former military ruler said on a visit to Ghana.

Buhari, who has made defeating the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
s his priority since taking office in late May, said the murderous Moslems were "virtually limited" to the remote Sambisa Forest area of Borno state, in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
.

Many of the 2.1 million displaced by six years of violence have begun returning home, he added.

"If you really bother to find out, a lot of progress is being made," he told news hounds.

Buhari has faced accusations of being too slow to act since becoming president, particularly on appointments to key government positions. Most senior ministerial roles remain unfilled.

Hopes have been high that an African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
-backed multi-national force, comprising troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
and Benin, will crush the Takfiri group operating in Iraq and Syria, ISIL-allied hard boys.

But a planned July-end deployment of the force has been delayed. In the meantime, deadly attacks have continued, although the military has claimed a series of successes in recent weeks.

They include the recapture of the strategic town of Gamboru Ngala on the Cameroon border and the arrest of an alleged top commander.

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels in country, Yemen's Foreign Minister Riyadh Yassin said on Sunday.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, Yassin said Iran's embassy in Sana'a had become a "Houthi operations room" and that Iranian intelligence and military experts at the embassy were helping the Houthis plan attacks against government loyalists and forces from the Saudi-led coalition targeting the group.

He added that the embassy is "equipped with resources not even the Yemeni government is in possession of" and that it was also being used to distribute financial support to the Houthi militias currently stationed in different parts of the country.

Iran Dismisses Closure of Embassy in Yemen
[ALMANAR.LB] The Iranian foreign ministry on Tuesday rejected Arab media reports that Tehran's embassy in Sana'a has been closed, stressing that the mission continues operation.

"The Iranian embassy in Sana'a continues operation as usual, while Iranian Ambassador to Yemen

She also dismissed certain Arab media reports claiming that Iran's embassy in Sana'a is acting as an operations room to command the resistance Yemeni groups.

"Such fake news are released to divert and weaken the Yemeni people and groups' role in their 6-month-long under-siege resistance and fighting against the foreign aggressors, Death Eaters and Takfiri

Her remarks came after Yemen's runaway Foreign Minister Riyadh Yassin claimed on Sunday that the Iranian embassy in Yemen's capital Sanaa is offering financial, strategic, and military advisory support to the Houthis in country.

Europe
France hosts conference on protecting Middle East minorities
No doubt the food is exquisite, the service impeccable. Whether the discussions are equally at the finest level is similarly not in doubt. Though possibly I misunderestimate...
[Rudaw] Gay Paree hosted a conference on protecting minority groups in the Middle East Tuesday, and the war against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
was at the top of the agenda.

Speaking to Rudaw, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said they wanted to find a resolution to end conflict and security issues in the Middle East.

"Rights of all the religious elements and ethnic groups in the Middle East have to be protected. The fight against ISIS is not a concern for the Middle East alone, but an international issue," he told Rudaw.

Fabius continued by emphasizing that a road map is necessary in order to send humanitarian aid for war zone areas in the Middle East. "We have a road map in terms of humanitarian aid and fighting radicals, but the international community should practically help us first so as to operate the road map we have," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wine tasting, Vince was about to start on his third quart...
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said at the conference, "A number of minorities are suffering persecution in the region."

"Eastern Christians must be taken in but there are also Moslems who are being persecuted and there are other minorities who are with the same amount of barbarism," Cazeneuve continued.

The Gay Paree conference, attended by representatives of around 60 countries, was to draw up an "action charter" to help members of minorities who have fled to return to the Middle East voluntarily, Fabius said before the conference's opening.

More than 100 leading world figures, including foreign ministers, Moslem and Christian clergy, parliamentarians and media representatives attended the conference.

The decision to hold the conference was made at a UN Security Council meeting in March, where Fabius raised the plight of Christians and Yezidis in Kurdish regions of Iraq, and Kurds in the Syrian town of Kobani.

Germany says it can take 500,000 refugees a year
Salving their conscience with the balm of delusional suicide.
[Rudaw] German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel announced that his country is ready to accommodate 500,000 asylum-seekers a year, as a UN official criticized the United States and wealthy Arab countries for not doing more to ease the growing humanitarian crisis.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
the plight and desperation of refugees fleeing wars in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
to arrive in the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
by the thousands every day was highlighted again Tuesday, as hundreds of migrants on the Hungary-Serbia border fled from a holding area and broke though a police line on the frontier, some carrying children.

In Germany, the vice chancellor told public television ZDF that the country can deal "with something in the order of half a million for few years."

But he called on other European countries to take their allotted share of refugees and do more to ease the crisis, soon after Berlin said it will allocate nearly $7 billion to help accommodate and help refugees.

On Tuesday, thousands of refugees waited in Greece and Hungary -- which have seen the largest influx over the past several days -- for a chance to start new lives in prosperous European countries.

Both Germany and Sweden have called for a distribution of refugee among the 28 European Union countries, while Austria says that member states not taking in refugees should suffer financial penalties. Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have resisted taking in more refugees.

The influx is the largest since World War One. Germany is expecting 800,000 refugees by the end of this year.

In Geneva, the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
harshly criticized the United States and wealthy Arab Gulf states for not taking in refugees.

Peter Sutherland, UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon´s special representative on migration, said on Tuesday that it is not enough for Washington and wealthy Gulf Arab states to give money to help Syrian refugees.

"Taking refugees is separate from giving money," Sutherland was quoted as saying.

Most of the four million Syrian refugees from the war are in camps in Leb, Jordan, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and northern Iraq.

The plight of the refugees was brought home for many across the world last week, as the picture of Alan Kurdi, a three-year-old boy who drowned as his family was trying to reach a Greek island, went viral on the Internet.

#5  Sometimes it helps to be a bit closer to the scene. I am. I've seen quite a few of the Syrians arriving at Munich Central Station these days.

Most are well-groomed, educated, Middle Class, non-fanatical, compliant and motivated people.

Sure there will be a few bad apples. But most of them will be an asset.

And since you know a bit about my opinions, this may come as a surprise to you. But never underestimate German reason.

I've talked to a high ranking police officer yesterday. Syrians almost don't exist in German crime statistics.

And you should have seen the efficiency of German authorities at Munich Central Station. They smoothly processed about 20,000 people arriving within several hours. When push comes to shove Germany delivers. Don't worry about delusional suicide.

#8  Interesting data point, EC. From the media clips I've seen (yeah, not exactly reliable OR impartial data), most of the refugees are well-dressed young men, not exactly the travel-worn families the word 'refugees' usually conjures up. I dunno, but my spider sense is tingling like it was oh dark hundred in some off-brand upazilla.

#9  "Refugees" are not necessarily the "wretched refuse" you might think of.

We handled 20,000 people in one day. Of course many are young men, but also families with small children. I spoke with some of them. Damascus middle class, business people from Kobane fleeing from IS, students. Some arrive directly from Syria, some from Turkish camps (no hope there because they are not allowed to work). Munich police and (discreet) BND staff watch everyone carefully. Staff is trained to detect fake Syrian passports and know which questions to ask (psst don't ask where they learned THAT).

Merkel knows very well what she's doing. Germany gets the first picking, and these people are grateful, highly motivated to work, often skilled. Balkan states will be declared safe states, so it will be much easier to turn back Albanians and Kosovars who cause far more trouble.

Germany needs immigrants, and they won't be Norwegians. So we'll just make the best of it.

The Grand Turk
HDP official: anti-Kurd attacks a step to civil war
[Rudaw] An official from the People's Democratic Party's (HDP) has accused The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Tuesday of waging a war against the Kurds, claiming that 128 of the pro-Kurdish party's buildings were attacked Monday.

HDP Co-chair Figen Yuksekdag said in a presser Tuesday that the Kurds have been subject to harassment and attacks have been carried out on Kurdish political party buildings, homes and vehicles by groups across Turkey.

Yuksekdag said "facist" groups killed a worker on Monday for speaking Kurdish and Turkish police did not intervene.

Yuksekdag said the recent attacks are a dangerous step toward civil war.

In Turkey's Nigde province, in the southern part of Central Anatolia, a group of nearly 500 protesters attacked the HDP provincial branch in the city of Nigde building with stones, according to Today's Zaman news agency.

Similar attacks were staged in the Manavgat, Antalya, Mersin, Sakarya, Corlu and Kayseri provinces, with protesters throwing rocks at the party's local headquarters and hanging Turkish flags on the buildings.

Tensions also ran high in the Beypazari district of Ankara on Monday night. A group of some 200 people who marched in the district to protest the PKK were pelted with rocks as they passed through the Zafer neighborhood where Kurdish seasonal workers reside, the news agency reported.

There were several injuries sustained in the incidents, according to police.

During the recent festivities between the PKK and Turkish Army, 100 civilians were reportedly killed during four days of heavy attacks.

AKP deputy vows to stage continued 'protests' outside media outlets
[Hurriyet Daily News] Justice and Development Party (AKP) Istanbul deputy Abdulrahim Boynukalin, who was among the group of around 200 assailants who stormed daily Hurriyet's building in Istanbul late Sept. 6, has vowed to stage "protests" outside buildings of media outlets if they continue to "whitewash violence with biased news reports."

"If [those media organizations] express an attitude that whitewashes violence with biased reports, we will again stage protests in front of them," the state-run Anadolu Agency quoted Boynukalin as saying on Sept. 8.

Boynukalin was prominent among the group that attacked daily Hurriyet's building, hurling stones, according to a video shot via a live stream application used on mobile devices.

In the video, Boynukalin equates Hurriyet's parent Dogan Group, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Fethullah Gulen movement as "terrorist organizations.

"With God's permission, not only the Aydin Dogan media, but the entire HDP, PKK -- all terrorist organizations -- and particularly the terrorist organization of [Gulen] will get the hell out of here after we make you [Recep Tayyip Erdogan

3 more Senate Democrats back Iran deal, clinching option to avoid vote
[Ynet] If the 41 senators now openly supporting the nuclear deal stick to their guns, those opposing it in Congress will not be able to pass a resolution of disapproval.

Democrats clinched the crucial US Senate votes Tuesday to block passage of a disapproval resolution against the Iran nuclear accord, an outcome that would be a major victory for President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
against united Republican opposition.

The declarations of support by three Democrats, bringing the total to 41, should block those who oppose or might oppose the deal -- 54 Republicans and three Democrats -- from passing a resolution of disapproval that would require the president to use his veto power.

Three Democrats seen as potential "no" votes on the deal all announced they would support it. Those senators were Richard Blumenthal, Ron Wyden and Gary Peters.
Early on Tuesday, Sen. Joe Manchin announced his opposition to the deal, a surprise "no" vote from a moderate Democrat who had sounded like he favored the pact.

But that setback for supporters was erased within the hour as three Democrats seen as potential "no" votes on the deal all announced they would support it. Those senators were Richard Blumenthal, Ron Wyden and Gary Peters.

But amid fast-paced developments as politicians returned to Washington from their five-week summer recess, supporters of the deal stopped short of declaring victory. That was because it remained uncertain whether all 41 Democratic and independent senators now on record in favor of the deal would also support delaying tactics to block a final vote on the disapproval resolution.

Still, the complicated machinery of Congress was turning in favor of the president on his top foreign policy priority, despite Republican control of both the House and the Senate. Already supporters of the deal have the votes in hand to uphold Obama's veto of a disapproval resolution, should that become necessary. Blocking the disapproval resolution with a delay, while ideal from the White House view because it would spare Obama from having to use a veto, would not change the ultimate outcome.

#1  Make them vote against voting on it, and make them do it on September 11th. You'll see how strong their "party over country" principle stays.

The ads write themselves for next fall. It also means the "agreement" is nothing once Obama's out of office.

#7  These politicians think that all this stuff is politics and fun. It is life and death stuff. What O&Co has done is to write up a non-enforceable joint action plan that Iran MMs will not abide by, and give them frozen funds up front, in effect. They reward bad behavior and let them go. The MMs have signed their own death warrant, because Israel will NOT commit national suicide, but will do whatever it takes to defend themselves against repeated threats to wipe out them and their nation.

I consider McConnell and Corker almost as evil as the MMs. It is disgusting. O is a symptom and Congress is the problem.

Gun Manufacturer Makes '€˜Crusader' Gun To Deter Islamic Terrorists
[Breitbart] A Florida weapons manufacturer has produced an assault rifle "designed never to be used by Muslim terrorists." The rifle is embossed with biblical verses and a Christian cross.

"When you make a rifle, you have to understand that it could be used for ill deeds if it got in the right hands," explained Ben Thomas, Brand ambassador for Florida Weapons manufacturer Spike's Tactical.

His company came up with the innovative solution as the Obama administration was preparing to send weapons to arm moderate rebel groups in Syria -- weapons that could easily fall into terrorist hands in the complex, sectarian conflict.

The Spike's Tactical Crusader is a lightweight mid-length rifle etched with a Knights Templar Long Cross on one side, and Psalm 144:1 on the other: "Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."

The safety selector that controls the Crusader's trigger has three settings: Peace, War and God Wills It.

Sipah tribe asked to surrender wanted men
[DAWN] The Khyber Agency
... the place to go if you've got an Indiana Jones hat and whip. Chock full of high adventure and treacherous Pathans. You should really train up to it, though...

political administration on Monday set a three-day deadline to the Sipah tribe of Bara to surrender all its wanted members and deposit the fine of Rs120 million.

The members of Sipah jirga, which met Political Agent Shahab Ali Shah at Khyber House, told Dawn that they were asked to surrender all the desperados, whose list had already been furnished to the jirga by the political administration about a month ago.

"The tone of political agent this time was very aggressive. He warned the jirga to be ready for consequences if it failed to fulfil the official demands," a Sipah elder told Dawn on condition of anonymity.

The political agent told the jirga that action would be taken against Sipah elders. The action would include suspension of all official perks and privileges along with their arrest under the Collective Territorial Responsibility clause of Frontier Crimes Regulations.

The jirga was reminded that some of the Sipah elders had assured both the political administration and security officials prior to the start of military operation in October last year that security forces would not be attacked in their area.

Military court verdict challenged in high court
[DAWN] A member of a proscribed organization, convicted for sectarian killing by a military court, has challenged his death sentence before the Lahore High Court.

The military court had awarded death sentence to Muhammad Sabir Shah for abetting murder of a lawyer, Syed Arshad Ali, in Lahore.

The chief of army staff confirmed his death sentence last week.

Laila Bibi, mother of the convict, filed the appeal through Advocate Zia Ali Bajwa and stated that her son was a juvenile (below 18 years) and was not given the right to fair trial.

She said neither was he allowed to meet his family members, nor given a chance to engage counsel to plead his case.

She asked the court to set aside the military court's verdict for being "unjust and unfair".

Pakistan, India Border Chiefs to Meet over Clashes
[ALMANAR.LB] The border security chiefs from India and Pakistain will meet Wednesday in an attempt to settle months of festivities that have killed almost two dozen people.

Tensions between the two arch-rivals have been high since the cancellation of bilateral security talks last month and with both countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 war which they both claimed victory in.

Pakistain's top security and foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
said he hoped the meeting between the two border forces could reduce the festivities and shelling which have killed more than a dozen civilians, according to media reports from both sides.

But he also accused India of taking an aggressive stance towards Pakistain.

"[Indian Prime Minister] Narendra Modi contested elections on an anti-Pakistain platform and now wants to dictate terms for the dialogue with Pakistain but we will never accept this and we have already conveyed it to New Delhi," Aziz told news hounds Tuesday.

He also responded to comments by an Indian minister about exploring the possibility of covert operations to take out "Pakistain-based terrorists", warning that Pakistain would respond in the same manner to such an event.

The current border festivities, which began in July, have mainly focused on the Line of Control which separates the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmire, which both countries partially hold.

Seminaries' funds to be put under the scanner. Really.
[DAWN] Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
has said that religious seminaries will be allowed to open bank accounts in an effort to guard against illicit funding and ensure transparency of transactions.

Speaking at a presser after a meeting with religious scholars from the Tanzeem Ittehad-ul-Madaris (TIM) -- an umbrella body of five organizations representing the seminaries of the major schools of thought -- the minister said that a meeting between TIM representatives and State Bank officials would be arranged to iron out the modalities.

He also said the government would evolve a mechanism to streamline foreign funding to seminaries.

Currently, religious seminaries are barred from opening bank accounts, which means that their funds are deposited into individuals' accounts.

The meeting was spread over two rounds, with the second one chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...

CM announces head money for Safoora massacre absconders
[DAWN] Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday announced head money for the eight absconders in the Safoora Goth carnage case.

The chief minister has set Rs2.5 million as head money for eight of the absconders connected to the Safoora Goth attack.

Those with head money of Rs2.5 million are Hafiz Muhammad Umar alias Hafeez, Ali Rehman alias Tona, Abdullah Mansoori, Mistri Pathan, Ijteba alias Dawood, Mehmood, Tayyab and Abdullah bin Yousuf alias Saqib.

Earlier in July, five eye-witnesses had identified suspects Saad Aziz and Tahir Hussain for their involvement in the Safoora Goth carnage.

The witnesses had rightly picked up the accused during the identification parade held in the court of a judicial magistrate in Malir and assigned them their roles in the commissioning of the offence.

The chief minister, while briefing media earlier in May had said that those tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in connection with the Safoora Goth carnage and killing of rights activist Sabeen Mahmud, are "well-educated" Death Eaters.

He added that the arrested individuals had also confessed to grenade attacks on schools, kabooms on police vans, a naval officer and a Rangers brigadier, a gun attack on an American educationist and assassination of police officials.

Tahirul Qadri: From preacher to politico and back again
[DAWN] A year after leading major street protests aimed at toppling the Pak government, populist preacher Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
says he has turned back to religion, but remains prepared to re-launch his "revolution" when the time is right.

Weeks of sit-in protests by supporters of Qadri and opposition politician Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
reached a climax in early September 2014 as protesters clashed with police and stormed the state broadcaster.

For a few hours it looked as if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
's government might fall, but the crisis abated and eventually the protesters went home.

Qadri, a mercurial figure who also brought Islamabad to a standstill with mass protests in early 2013, wanted Sharif to resign and demanded sweeping changes to the country's political and welfare system.

The protests fizzled out and Qadri left Pakistain for medical treatment.

Earlier this year he quietly returned, this time to lead not rumbustious street protests but a 10-day prayer vigil during the month of Ramazan.

lst SOW, Hurlburt Field: 105 returns to AC-130J Ghostrider gunship
[Breitbart] U.S. SOCOM (Special Operations Command) recently received the first of 32 new AC-130J Ghostrider gunship. After acceptance tests it is expected to enter service in early 2016. Since 2010 the design of the AC-130J has gone through several changes, the latest one bringing back the 105mm cannon. This is part of a retreat from an earlier decision.

Since 2005 SOCOM had been replacing the long used 40mm and 20mm autocannon and 105mm cannon with missiles but combat experience showed that that cannon were still needed in many situations.
Older mounted version pictured here.
Thus SOCOM has already decided to bring back autocannon and install one 30mm cannon (to replace the rather elderly 40mm and 20mm models). Thus the latest revision has a 105mm cannon fired out the back of the aircraft via a modified rear ramp.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Austria: Fight against ISIL Needs Syria's Assad, Iran, Russia
[ALMANAR.LB] Austria's Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said on Tuesday that the West should involve Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....

...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
group, in some of the most conciliatory comments towards President Assad by a Western official.

"We need a pragmatic common approach in this respect including the involvement of Assad in the fight against ISIL terror," Kurz told news hounds during a state visit to Tehran.

Most Western countries insist Syria's president must leave power if peace is to be restored, while Iran and Russia say he is part of the solution.

"In my opinion the priority is the fight against terror. This will not be possible without powers such as Russia and Iran," Kurz said, echoing earlier comments by Iran's President Sheikh Hassan Rouhani.

Some European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
officials have been privately saying for months that it is time for more communication with Damascus to combat ISIL, but few senior Western officials have said so publicly.

"One should not forget the crimes that Assad has committed, but also not forget the pragmatic view of the fact that in this fight we are on the same side," he said.
