Top Taliban commander Dadullah confirms Mullah Omar was killed
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban group's top commander Mansoor Dadullah has warned of further divisions among the Talibs while expressing his deep opposition with the appointment of Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor as successor of Mullah Mohammad Omar.

Dadullah has called on immediate actions to appointment a new supreme leader for the Taliban group who should be acceptable for all.

He announced his support to Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's son Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob and called the tensions among the Taliban leaders at all-time high.

He told the BBC correspondent through a telephone conversation that the Taliban group has already been divided in different branches.

Dadullah also confirmed that Mullah Omar did not die naturally but was assassinated, confirming the reports suggesting Mullah Omar was mysteriously killed in April 2013 in a hospital in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
city of Pakitan.

Mansoor Dadullah is the brother of the former senior Taliban capo Mullah Dadullah who was actively operating in southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province before he was killed during an operation in Helmand province in 2007.

The Afghan Intelligence -- National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) said Monday that the Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammad was mysteriously killed in a hospital in Karachi city of Pakistain.

A statement was issued by NDS on Monday tonight stating that Mullah Omar was killed in the month of April 2013 in a hospital in Karachi city.

Dostum: Will go to frontline with 'Suit & Tie' if Taliban did not surrender
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
has said he will go to frontline if the Talibs did not refrain from violence and surrender to the Afghan cops.

Speaking to a gathering of the Afghan cops in Qaisar district, Gen. Dostum said those Talibs who are having better knowledge of the realities should surrender and join the government of national unity. f

Gen. Dostum further added that the government will welcome all those Death Eaters belonging to Taliban, Haqqani network or any other bad boy group if they start contacts with the government and understand the ground realities.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
he warned that he will personally go to the frontline if the Death Eaters did not stop further bloodshed by killing innocent people.

He said the Death Eaters do not have the capability to face the Afghan forces however if they resisted he said he will join the Afghan forces in the frontline with the official suit and tie to beat them.

Gen. Dostum set a deadline for the Talibs to surrender in northern parts of the country during a trip to northern Faryab province last month.

This comes as the acting provincial governor for northern Balkh province of Afghanistan Ata Mohammad Noor also said last month that joint operations will be launched to clear northern parts of the country from the bad boys.

Speaking during a ceremony to mark the first day of Eid al-Fitr in Mazar-e-Sharif city, Noor said the operations would be launched based on an agreement reached with First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and Second Deputy CEO Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq.

Analysts Urge Security Forces Forward As Divisions in Taliban Leadership Emerge
[Tolo News] Emerging divisions among the Taliban leadership could present an opportunity for the Afghan cops to exert heightened military and intelligence pressure on the turban group, analysts told TOLOnews on Wednesday.

"Intelligence forces, along with the security forces, must advance vigorously their intelligence performance and attract those groups who are interested in joining the grinding of the peace processor," political analyst Miagul Wasiq said.

The comments come amid uncertainty surrounding the future of the peace negotiations process launched last month outside Islamabad, which came after months of intense fighting in southern, eastern and northern Afghanistan. The death of the Taliban's former supreme leader Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
and the apparent succession of his former deputy Mullah Akhtar Mansour has prompted confusion and discord at the top of myrmidon group's ranks, raising questions about its cohesiveness and ability to meet the Afghan government in negotiations or on the battlefield.

As of now, Afghan security officials in field report that they are picking up the pressure on myrmidon groups around the country.

"Uzbekistani, Pak and local holy warriors were involved in a Faryab battle and we responded to them with full force," Special Police Forces Commander Asadullah Shirzad told TOLOnews on Wednesday.

"A number of Taliban in Baghlan are currently engaged in battle with security forces, and believe me they [the Taliban] don't even know why they are fighting," Baghlan provincial NDS chief Abdul Rashid said.

Thanks to intelligence work, Baghlan's security forces recently saw a major victory in their efforts to clear turban out of the province: Mohammad Yasin Taliban, the Taliban's local military operation commander, was jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in an operation in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
.

According to Yasin, he was brought to Afghanistan from Pakistain and recruited in a Madrassa by a man named Mullah Younos. "I was in Pakistain in a Madrassa called Sultania and a man named Mullah Younos was calling and promoting for Jihad, so I also accepted the invitation," he told TOLOnews.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has spoken of their determination to pushback the ground gained by turban groups over the spring fighting season.

"Anywhere the enemy have movment and fight against the Afghan people, no doubt they will be suppressed and our pressure will keep on," MoI front man Siddiq Siddiqi said on Wednesday.

4,000 Soldiers Desert Their Posts Monthly: Gen. Campbell
[Tolo News] General John F. Campbell, the Resolute Support Mission and the U.S. Forces commander in Afghanistan, said on Tuesday that at least 4,000 Afghan security force members are deserting their posts every month.

Speaking at a question and answer session titled Afghanistan's Future at the Brooking Institution in Washington DC, Campbell criticized security bigshots in Afghanistan and said the main reason for troops deserting was because of a lack of a proper management of army and police personnel in the country.

But on a lighter note he said the Taliban has no other way except to join the grinding of the peace processor because they will not be able to topple the Afghan government through war.

"The number of Taliban gunnies that have been killed [this year] is probably three or four times higher than it was last year. The Afghan cops are becoming casualties but again they inflict a lot of casualties. I think we do see signs of fracturing in the battlefield from the leadership, lack of supplies and lack of money," he said.

Turkey says coalition to launch
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] U.S. aircraft and drones are arriving in Turkish air bases and a comprehensive battle against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bully boyz will be launched soon, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
formally approved the use of its air bases by U.S. and coalition aircraft late last month, a major change in policy after years of reluctance in taking a front-line role against the Islamist fighters in northern Syria.

"As part of our agreement with the U.S. we have made progress regarding the opening up of our bases, particularly Incirlik," Cavusoglu told state broadcaster TRT, referring to a major air base near the southern city of Adana.

"We're seeing that manned and unmanned American planes are arriving and soon we will launch a comprehensive battle against Islamic State all together," he said during a trip to Malaysia.

Turkey and the United States have been working on plans to provide air cover for a group of U.S.-trained Syrian rebels and jointly sweep Islamic State fighters from a strip of northern Syria stretching about 80 km (50 miles) along the Turkish border.

Diplomats familiar with the plans say cutting off Islamic State's access to the border, over which imported muscle and supplies have flowed, could be a game-changer in the fight against the holy warriors.

But there are major challenges.

Washington said on Tuesday it had indications some of the rebels trained by its military were captured by fighters from al Qaeda's Syria wing, Nusra Front, underscoring the vulnerability of a group thought to number less than 60 who only deployed to the battlefield in recent weeks.

Islamic State has seized large parts of Syria and neighboring Iraq in its drive to create an Islamic caliphate.
Rudaw adds:
Turkey appointed a new army commander as it announced that US warplanes were assembling at Turkish air bases for a joint "comprehensive battle" against the Islamic State group (ISIS or ISIL).

Reports said that Gen. Hulusi Akar had been promoted to preside over NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
's second-largest army, replacing Gen. Necdet Ozel.
Replacing one politically acceptable general with another? Is that expected to help?
And then there's the Kurdish perspective on the matter:
Until now, Turkey has been largely criticized for being a reluctant partner in the US-led coalition arrayed to defeat ISIS. Ankara says it is gearing up for an assault on the Islamists after turning a blind eye to their use of the Turkish border to smuggle in fighters and smuggle out oil and goods to sell.

Turkey’s borders have been the vital lifelines for the vast territories that ISIS controls in Syria and Iraq. A genuine crackdown on ISIS at the border is expected to inflict a major blow on the group.
About the new general, this update from An Nahar at 8:50 a.m. ET:
Land Forces commander Hulusi Akar, 63, takes over as chief of staff from retiring General Necdet Ozel as part of a major shake-up of the army's top brass.

His appointment was made during a three-day annual meeting of the Supreme Military Council headed by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Akar, who has extensive NATO experience, is seen as more hawkish than Ozel, whose leadership coincided with a period of relative peace in the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey's Kurdish-dominated southeast.

The overhaul in the army command also comes as Turkey continues to redefine the role of the military, whose political influence has waned since the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
took power in 2002. The army, which considers itself the guardian of secular rule, has staged three coups since 1960 and forced out an Islamic government in 1997. But Erdogan's Islamic-rooted AKP has clipped its wings through a series of trials, which have been criticized by rights groups.
Also criticized by military types, who've pointed out (I paraphrase here) that officers promoted for their political views tend to be less proficient in their profession than those promoted for their proficiency.

Home Front: WoT
Obama Warns of Hizbullah Retaliation over Iran
[AnNahar] President Barack Obama
They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them...
has warned that any possible rejection by the Congress of the Iran nuclear deal, would force the U.S. to attack Iran, a move that could lead to a Hizbulalh retaliation against Israel.
Israel has been preparing for that, while Hizb'allah has gotten ever more men and material involved in that Syria thing. At the other end of the pincer, Hamas, has not yet replaced the rockets and missiles expended last summer, not to mention redug the tunnels into Israel. War now is the best option Israel has.
So Champ thinks we should knuckle under to threats instead of standing up to them? That doesn't surprise me in the least...
"It would be destructive both to the U.S. and to Israel," Obama told Jewish leaders on Tuesday, according to Israeli media reports.

"An American military action against Iran's nuclear facilities will not end with Iran declaring war on us. Iran's defense budget is $15 billion. The American defense budget is $600 billion. What Iran would do, and could do, is respond a-symmetrically by increasing its support of terrorism."

"Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
rockets will rain down on Tel Aviv," he stressed.

The U.S. president's meeting came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu participated in a live webcast aimed at Americans Jews. The PM railed against the agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in sanctions relief, calling it a "bad deal" that leaves Tehran on the brink of a bomb.

The White House is preparing for the likelihood that politicians will vote against the deal next month and is focusing its lobbying efforts on getting enough Democrats to sustain a veto. Only one chamber of Congress is needed to sustain a veto.

Kerry Warns on Iran Deal: Don't '€˜Screw' the Ayatollahs
[Breitbart] He [Kerry] warned that the "moderate" regime [sic] of Hassan Rouhani would fall if the deal were rejected, and be replaced by a more hard-line one (though it is difficult to point to any way in which Rouhani's administration is less extremist and violent than its predecessors, except in its language on the global stage).

Obama: Everyone but Israel supports Iran deal
[Ynet] US president delivers speech at university defending nuclear agreement, saying that alternative to diplomacy is war.

President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
said Wednesday that every country that has commented on the Iran nuclear deal has supported it -- except for Israel. Obama singled out Israel's government in a speech about the deal at American University. He described opponents of the deal as outliers and noted that the deal has support from non-proliferation experts and former ambassadors from both political parties.
Full text of the speech here. Then there's this:
Obama: "Netanyahu refuses to meet with me, wants to continue fighting over Iran

[Ynet] In a briefing before 22 Jewish leaders US President Barack Obama
I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money...
said that he is ready to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and discuss the necessary measures needed to make Israel feel safer after the Iran deal.

According to Obama, sadly Netanyahu refused to hold a meeting. Saying the meeting would be seen as waving a white flag, because Netanyahu wants to continue fighting over the deal.

It starts: US intel warns Congress Iran is sanitizing Parchin in broad daylight
US intelligence officials have informed Congress that it has detected that Iran is 'sanitizing' its Parchin facility outside Tehran where Western countries are virtually certain it has carried out nuclear weapons development activity in the past. The 'sanitizing,' which is being carried out in broad daylight, is apparently a last-ditch effort by Tehran to thwart the ability of IAEA inspectors to reconstruct the extent of the PMD's (possibly military dimensions) of Iran's nuclear program at Parchin. This is from Eli Lake and Josh Rogin.

Intelligence officials and lawmakers who have seen the new evidence, which is still classified, told us that satellite imagery picked up by U.S. government assets in mid- and late July showed that Iran had moved bulldozers and other heavy machinery to the Parchin site and that the U.S. intelligence community concluded with high confidence that the Iranian government was working to clean up the site ahead of planned inspections by the IAEA.

The intelligence community shared its findings with lawmakers and some Congressional staff late last week, four people who have seen the evidence told us. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence briefed lawmakers about the evidence Monday, three U.S. senators said.

Iraq
All quiet, for now, as Peshmerga hold the line against ISIS
[Rudaw] A year ago, the furious ISIS attack managed to get as close as 27 km to Erbil with the bully boyz capturing the Gwer district and its surrounding villages. It was a tense time for Kurds and the Kurdish Yezidi under attack to north at Mt Shingal.

One year later, however, and Peshmerga commanders are reporting a tense calm as ISIS has been pushed back in many areas surrounding the capital of the Kurdistan region.

"There is a difference between the ISIS assault in the beginning and the Peshmrga's current position. At first, we did not have enough skill to fight off the barbaric assaults of ISIS. [But] after a year, the Peshmerga have gained very good experience so that now none of their assaults can win their objectives," a Peshmerga commander told Rudaw.

Even so, the fragile stalemate could be shattered at any time and the jihadists still hold the cities of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and Hawija to the north and south of Erbil.
Video with maps at link. Also uniformed men and equipment, which no doubt will be informative for those of you who know about such things.

#2  Mosukl ius a major MOUT undertaking, and the Kurds are smart for standing off. They dont have that kind of manpower, and it would become a Stalingrad to the Peshmerga. Even if they did liberate it, they wouldn't get Mosul as part of their homeland, so why bother spending the time treasure talent and blood there? Let the Shia regain their city if they want it, the Kurds will hold the north, eastern and northwestern sides of the ring but not enter.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran's Navy Commander Warns of 'Strong Response to Slightest US Aggressive Move'
[ALMANAR.LB] Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi warned on Monday the United States against taking the slightest hostile move against Iran, stressing that Tehran's response will be unpredictably strong, Fars news agency reported.

"The western media are mocking at the US for speaking of 'on the table options (against Iran)' because the US always utters some words without the ability to materialize them and … we are ready to give such a powerful response to the slightest move of the US that it won't be able to make any other moves," Fadavi said, addressing a ceremony in the Northern city of Zibakenar on Monday.

He said that the Iranian Armed Forces are now at the highest level of preparedness, stating that only the dead body of the American troops realizes the power of the Islamic Revolution.

Fadavi also referred to the nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers, including the US, and said, "The Islamic Revolution has given the other side a rare opportunity and they should take care not to miss it."

In relevant remarks in March, Fadavi underlined that the enemies will never dare to attack Iran because they are afraid of the Iranian Armed Forces' deterrent power.

"Iran's power of deterrence is preventing the enemies from attacking the country," Rear Admiral said, addressing a ceremony in the city of Mashhad, Northeastern Iran.

He noted that the enemies have always been trying to attack Iran, but the Islamic Republic's power of deterrence has prevented them from achieving their goals.

"The Americans and our enemies cannot stand up against the Islamic system's deterrence power no matter how hard they try," Rear Admiral Fadavi added.

Fadavi comments came in response to earlier statements by some US officials who claimed saving the world form an imminent Iranian bomb, and warned of keeping the military option on table with the Islamic Republic.

Syrian Islamist group says had been in talks with Iran
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian Islamist Death Eater group Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
said on Wednesday it had been in talks with an Iranian delegation regarding the Syrian city of Zabadani but that the discussions had been halted.

Any such talks between the conservative Sunni Islamist group and Shi'ite Iran would be highly unusual. Iran backs Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters fighting on the ground in Syria's four-year-old insurgency.

The statement said Ahrar al-Sham had objected to what it called Iran's "determination" to empty Zabadani of civilians and fighters. Syrian government and Hezbollah forces have been attacking rebel-held Zabadini.

Iran Aims at Establishing Peace in Region: Rouhani
[ALMANAR.LB] The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Iran would do its best for establishment of peace and stability in the region.

President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni and Economic Development Minister Federica Guidi.

'Following the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and P5+1, Tehran is feeling a heavy burden on its shoulder.' President Rouhani added.

Touching upon the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
huge capacities, Italia in particular, for fostering relations with Iran, President Rouhani reiterated that the transfer of capital and technology to Iran and then joint export to regional markets are the priority of Iran for reinforcing economic relations with the European countries.

Pointing to Iran-Italia ancient-old relations, he added there is no hindrance on the way of fostering mutual cooperation.

'Iran and Italia could open a new chapter in political, economic, cultural, scientific and tourism arenas,' he added.

President Rouhani underlined that the ground is fully prepared for attracting foreign investment in the fields of energy, banking, insurance, industry, transportation, health as well as sanitation.

Iran to present Syria peace plan to United Nations
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Iran will soon present the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
with a peace plan for Syria, where civil war has caused a humanitarian catastrophe and allowed the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group to flourish, Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Wednesday.

Tehran, which has stood by its ally, Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
, through more than four years of civil war, is hosting Syrian and Russian officials this week to discuss a solution to the conflict that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

"This plan will be presented to the U.N. Secretary General after detailed discussions between Tehran and Damascus are completed," Abdollahian was quoted as saying by Iran's state news agency IRNA.

Iran's Gulf Arab neighbors and many Western powers are wary of what they see as Tehran's growing influence in the region, particularly as it is about to exit tough economic sanctions that had stifled its economic and diplomatic clout.

The Iranian plan will be based on a four-point initiative presented to the United Nations last year by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, comprising an immediate cease-fire, formation of a national unity government, constitutional protection for minorities and supervised elections.

Western and regional powers, including The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, have also stepped up their efforts to solve the crisis, which has caused a huge outflow of refugees and allowed the ascent of jihadist group Islamic State.

But while all parties see Islamic State as a threat, Washington and its allies want to see Assad ousted as part of a resolution to the Syrian civil war.
