Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief May 7, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • ROCKET ATTACK ON AIRPORT IN KABUL, SEARCHES UNDERWAY – A rocket attack was reported at Kabul International Airport on Saturday as the Taliban’s Foreign Minister was leaving for a conference in Islamabad. Several projectiles reportedly impacted near the terminal area and at least 3 airport workers were witnessed to have received injuries from the explosions. It was unclear what kind of projectiles were used with differing accounts made by eyewitnesses to the attack. However, most agreed the attack originated from the rooftops of at least two buildings to the West of the airport. An anonymous source who had previously served with the Afghan National Army said the impacts from the strikes were too precise to be Rocket Propelled Grenades. The attack did not disrupt the Foreign Minister’s trip but Taliban units swarmed the airport and the surrounding neighborhoods. Several journalists said they had been warned to hold off on reporting the incident until a Taliban spokesman could prepare a statement.

  • TRILATERAL MEETINGS IN PAKISTAN – Security and economic stability were the primary points of discussion in the meetings between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan. Calls were made to once again form an inclusive government and China used the opportunity to take more swipes at the United States for freezing assets. Ultimately, very little of consequence appears to have taken place at the event.

  • STATE DEPARTMENT SAYS FUNDING ‘NOT’ GOING TO THE TALIBAN – A State Department spokesman, when pressed by a reporter over concerns raised in a recent Inspector General report about transparency, said that “US assistance in Afghanistan does not benefit the Taliban.” He stressed several ‘controls’ had been put in place to ensure the funding is handled by partner NGOs and the United Nations but many observers continue to question the validity of these claims and openly question how the State Department is monitoring the pipeline of cash.

  • CHINA ‘GENTLY’ REMINDS TALIBAN OF TERRORISM COMMITMENT – China took the opportunity at Saturday’s meeting to explain to Amir Khan Muttaqi (Taliban Foreign Minister) that Afghanistan’s neighbors have valid security concerns about terrorism and that the Taliban had not convinced anyone that the threat of terrorism was diminished. China’s Foreign Minister mentioned his country’s specific concern by name (Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement) and said that China stood ready to assist with security cooperation programs to fight terror.

  • PAKISTAN ISSUES PRESS ID CARDS TO AFGHAN JOURNALISTS – In a move to provide some semblance of credibility to the many Afghan journalists who find themselves in exile, Pakistan decided to issue these journalists press accreditation. The International Association of Pakistan-Afghanistan Journalists (IAPAJ) launched on Saturday in Islamabad and after brief remarks, began issuing the official cards to its members. The leaders of the IAPAJ hope the cards will deter Pakistani security personnel from harassing Afghan journalists and allow them to continue their work while residing in Pakistan.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kabul: Iran’s official news service said several rockets were launched into the airport grounds, landing in the ceremonial, control, and passenger areas. 3 non-combatants were reportedly wounded in the attack. The attack took place as the Taliban Foreign Minister was departing for meetings in Pakistan.

NEXT 24 HOURS
HOUSE SEARCHES AND POSSIBLE CLEARING OPERATIONS TO CONTINUE IN AREAS AROUND AIRPORT – Hundreds of additional Taliban security forces descended on the airport after the rocket attacks took place and small units began searching the adjacent neighborhoods about an hour after the last explosion took place. Some buildings had been searched and there was an unconfirmed report that several gunmen had been chased away from the Serena Hotel’s alley. At-risk Afghans can expect additional search operations to continue throughout the day and should be prepared for a possible clash with whichever group instigated the attack should contact be made.

Renewed clashes erupt between army and paramilitary forces in South Darfur
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Clashes have resumed between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state on Saturday.

Since April 15, Sudan has experienced intense fighting in Khartoum and several states in the Darfur region between the army and the RSF, resulting in over 500 fatalities, thousands of injuries, and significant infrastructure damage.

In South and North Darfur states the warring parties observed a ceasefire mediated by local leaders.

According to security sources, violent mostly peaceful festivities erupted in three Nyala neighborhoods between the army and the paramilitary forces, with both sides employing heavy weapons that caused damage to several civilian homes, although there were no reported casualties.

The sources told Sudan Tribune that the renewed violence occurred when a group of RSF forces attempted to infiltrate army warehouses in the al-Nahda neighborhood, which is under the control of the army.

The fighting caused panic among residents of the area, and some fled to the city center. The main market in Nyala also closed amid fears of further armed confrontations.

There are concerns that the renewed festivities may escalate and trigger tribal conflict in the region. There have been reports of a large deployment of tribal bandidos Lions of Islam in areas controlled by the RSF to the east of Nyala, raising fears of a breakdown in security.

On April 15, violent mostly peaceful festivities erupted in Nyala between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in over 60 civilian deaths, and the burning and looting of several markets by armed militias.

This conflict led to dividing Nyala, the second most populous city in Sudan, into two parts. The western side, which is controlled by the army, includes the government secretariat, ministries, army command, and armoires. Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie ducked another tomato...
the eastern part, which is under the control of the RSF, includes Nyala airport, intelligence service buildings, and police headquarters.

#1  Interesting development. Nyala, South Darfur was generally immune from the warfare that enveloped Darfur over the last quarter century. We now have the Rapids (RSF) led by tribal Rizayqat of Darfur itself vs. the Sudan Army, led by Arab families of the Nile River region. The great hope is that they will destroy each other.

Chokehold protest turns violent: Angry activists block subway trains in Manhattan, and start brawls with police in protest over death of Jordan Neely by ex-Marine
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Yet another excuse for Black Bloc antics.
  • Anger over the death of Jordan Neely, who was killed by a chokehold inflicted by a US Marine, led protestors to jump onto the track of the NYC subway system

  • Photos and videos captured the protest group taking over the Lexington Avenue and 63rd Street subway stop on the Upper East Side on Saturday evening

  • Protesters standing on the tracks prominently displayed their protest signs calling for justice in the death of Jordan Neely, 30, who died from a chokehold

  • Protestors marched from downtown all the way up to the Upper East Side before they went down into the subway system to stop the trains

#1  They should certainly hope that the driver of the oncoming subway car does see them and that he can stop the train in time. Otherwise...well, never argue over the right of way with something that outweighs you by several tons.

#2  So basically what we have is:
The NYC THUG Union protesting the intervention of honest citizens (likely due to Defund Police). For stopping a known Mentally ILL, known violent criminal, with 42 known prior arrests and with an known outstanding assault warrant for arrest.

I can only hope those protesting used the 3rd subway rail, to highlight their protest.

Lahore shooting claims life of Sikh community member
What’s the point of being a member of the Master Religion if you can’t take potshots at local dhimmis when the mood takes you? The alternative being that it was just a sociopath shooting random people on the street for no reason whatsoever, of some sort of gang or mafia thing. Or maybe even related to yesterday’s assassination of the head of one of the Khalistan groups... Hopefully one of these days the answer will be revealed.
[Dawn] A person belonging to the Sikh community was killed by unknown assailants in a drive-by shooting in Lahore’s Nawab Town neighbourhood on Saturday, police said.

The man, identified as Paramjit Singh Panjwar, 50, was shot by button men riding a cycle of violence. When the attack happened, he was on a morning walk at around 6:30am, accompanied by his bodyguard near his residence in the Sunflower Housing Society, police said.
Just out for a pleasant morning stroll, with an ineffective bodyguard. Nothing to see here.
Mr Panjwar received a fatal gunshot to the head, a police official said. The bodyguard was also maimed in the attack and shifted to a local hospital, where his condition was said to be critical. The assailants expeditiously departed at a goodly pace after the attack.

An official said police rushed to the site and cordoned off the area to collect evidence. The police also issued a high alert to intensify patrolling and snap-checking to round up the suspects.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack.

The police official said it would be premature to say anything about the motive behind Mr Panjwar’s killing and teams were working on all possible leads.

He refused to comment on reports that one of the shooters was also injured in the crossfire.

Mr Panjwar’s body was shifted to the city morgue for an appointment with Dr. Quincy and police experts were trying to get access to CCTV footage of the scene of the crime to get more details about the suspects.

Residence of Hizb terrorist's father searched in Kashmir

Continuing its crackdown on terror elements, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted searches in the residential premises of Abdul Gani Bhat, father of active terrorist Farooq Ahmad Bhat alias Nali, at Chek Desen Yaripora in South Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's Kulgam district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday.

Farooq Bhat is an active terrorist of proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...
and is wanted in many terror related cases.

"The searches were conducted after Designated Special Judge Under NIA ACT, Kulgam issued a search warrant in case FIR No. 142/2019 of P/S Yaripora Kulgam," police said.

The case pertains to the killing of five non-local labourers at Katrosa Kulgam in 2019.
The mills of Justice grinding slowly... though to be fair, there was that whole changing of Kashmir’s status thingy that led to a police lockdown, followed by the Covid lockdown, which no doubt slowed the hunt considerably.
The SIU is investigating the case and has been conducting searches and investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice, said the police.

Day 3: Searches continue, no fresh contact with terrorists in J&K’s Rajouri
[OneIndia] No fresh contact was established with holed up turbans in the forested Kandi area of Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain.
’s Rajouri district, where a massive search operation to track ultras entered the third day on Sunday, officials said.

Five Army personnel and a terrorist, who is said to be part of the group that carried out an attack on civilians in Dhangri village of Rajouri early this year, were killed, while a major-rank officer was injured in the operation so far.

While the five soldiers bit the dust in a kaboom triggered by the turbans when the forces moved in to flush out ultras in the Kesari hill forest on Friday morning, the terrorist was bumped off the next morning after he along with his another associate was confronted shortly after midnight.

The other terrorist was believed to have been injured in the exchange of fire which lasted for several hours but managed to slip away, the officials said, adding the operation code named "Trinetra" was continuing when last reports were received. "There was no fresh contact with the turbans after Saturday’s encounter.

The area witnessed heavy rains in the evening (Saturday) but the operation is on and the area remains under tight security cordon with all escape routes plugged," a security bigshot said. He said Army, police and CRPF personnel are deployed in the operation area and are engaged in a massive combing operation to track down the terrorists.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Ace of Spades Division headquarters in Rajouri on Saturday. Northern Army commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi also visited the encounter site before the arrival of the defence minister and was briefed about the developments in the 'Operation Trinetra'.

Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu, which were declared terrorism-free more than a decade ago, have been rocked by a series of deadly attacks since October 2021, resulting in the killing of 35 people, including 26 soldiers.

Rajouri, Poonch attacks both handiwork of Lashkar: Intel

[OneIndia] The Intelligence agencies have learnt that the horrific attack that was carried out in Rajouri in which five soldiers of the Indian Army died was orchestrated by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba.

The Indian Army has launched a full-scale counter-terror operation in the Kandi Forest in Bhata Dhurian, Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir to avenge the killing of the soldiers.

Informed sources tell OneIndia that the attack was carried out by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The group led by Habibullah Malik alias Sajjid Jutt alias Sajjid Langda along with Reyaz Ahmed alias Qasim had planned the attack. The same group is said to be involved in the Poonch attack, the source cited above said.

This particular group is being controlled by the team that is based out of Pakistain occupied Kashmir. Sajjid Jutt, a resident of Kashur in Pakistain's Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

is operating out of Pakistain occupied Kashmir. He is also the operational commander for the Lashkar-e-Tayiba in Jammu and Kashmir, the source added.

With two back-to-back attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in which five Army personnel have died, the Indian Army is revamping its strategy, another official said. There has been a lot of focus on Kashmir as a result of which the holy warriors decided to ramp operations in the Jammu region. The Indian security mechanism is now revamping the strategy in the Jammu region, the source also said.

Top Indian security officials along with the commanders of the Indian Army are on their way to Srinagar to review the entire scenario. We will overcome this and ensure that the holy warriors are wiped out in this region as well. The same strategy applied to Kashmir would be done in Jammu. There are setbacks no doubt, but the game by Pakistain will not last too long another official said.

It would also not be wrong to say that the attacks in Poonch and Rajouri coincide with the visit by Pakistain's foreign minister, Bilawal Baby Bhutto Zardari
...Pak dynastic politician, son of Benazir Bhutto and grandon of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. As far as is known, Bilawal has no particular talents other than being pretty and being able to memorize political slogans, but he had the good luck to be born into the right family and he hasn't been assassinated yet...
. The day the announcement of his visit was made, the Poonch attack took place. On the day he visited India for the SCO summit, the attack in Rajouri happened. This is hardly even a coincidence, a top security expert said.

Iraq
3-day bombing campaign on Mt Metina scares villagers, Turkey blamed
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish planes on Saturday bombarded a mountain in northern Duhok province, spreading fear among villagers, but causing no casualties, a local source told Rudaw.

Haval Barkayini is a resident of Balava village. He said The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
has been bombarding Mount Metina near the village for three days, with the assault intensifying on Saturday when three areas on the mountain were targeted.

No residents of the area were hurt, but Barkayini said villagers were terrified.

Turkey has yet to comment.

Ottoman Turkish forces frequently carry out military assaults in the Kurdistan Region, targeting suspected Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in the mountains where the group has its headquarters. The PKK is an gang that for decades has fought for greater Kurdish political and cultural rights in Turkey. Ankara has designated it a terror group.

The PKK called a unilateral ceasefire of operations within Turkey after the February earthquakes and extended it through to May 14 presidential and parliamentary elections, when opposition parties are hoping to end two decades of President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
’s rule.

Media close to the PKK has reported an increase in Ottoman Turkish military activity in the Kurdistan Region, accusing Ankara of trying to create propaganda ahead of the election.

Baghdad has repeatedly condemned Turkey’s violations of its borders and called on gangs not to use Iraqi territory to attack neighbouring nations. Civilians are frequently caught in the crossfire between Ottoman Turkish forces and the PKK and hundreds of villages have been emptied with families moving in search of safety.

In a forum this week in Baghdad, Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari said that Iraq was beefing up security on its borders with Turkey and Iran.
Shafaq News adds:
On Saturday, Ottoman Turkish warplanes conducted two Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s targeting the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) positions in the Matin mountain range, located north of Duhok Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The bombing focused on an area near the villages of Koharzi and Balafah in the Amadiya district, causing panic and fear among the residents due to the intensity of the attack.

It is worth noting that this area has been a frequent target of Ottoman Turkish airstrikes recently, as the PKK Lions of Islam have been taking caves and tunnels within the mountain.

18th weekend of rallies as protesters demand overhaul negotiations not drag on
[IsraelTimes] Lapid vows to ’turn over every rock’ in effort to reach consensus in ongoing talks at President’s Residence, but says won’t let coalition ’just stall for time’

For the 18th week in a row, tens of thousands of protesters rallied across Israel on Saturday evening against the government’s plans to overhaul the judicial system, seeking to maintain a vocal opposition to the currently-paused legislative proposals amid ongoing negotiations to reach a broad consensus for reform.
A project contracted by the US State Department to Movement for Quality Government, Antifa’s branch in Israel for driving Bibi Netanyahu and his supporters out of politics. Previously known as V15 (for Victory 15, the last election Bibi won against the will of a Democratic president), its secret identity is the Israeli branch of the Washington, DC-based “international grassroots”OneVoice Movement founded by Progressive multi-billionaire Daniel Lubetzky in 2002 as a front for his PeaceWorks Foundation to drive Israel to fulfill his vision for the region. The State Department gave V15 millions starting under President Obama.
The main demonstration was held at Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, which opened with the singing of "Hatikva." Hebrew media outlets estimated turnout at 100,000-180,000.

Israeli troops kill two Palestinian gunmen suspected of recent West Bank attack
[IsraelTimes] IDF, police say pair involved in carrying out shooting earlier in the week that injured Israeli man; another two wanted Paleostinians arrested in Tulkarem

Two Paleostinian button men were killed by Israeli troops during a raid early Saturday on the Nur Shams refugee camp in the West Bank, the military and Paleostinian health officials said.

In a joint statement, the Israel Defense Forces and police said soldiers and undercover Border Police officers entered the camp near the city of Tulkarem to arrest several suspects accused of being behind a shooting attack on Tuesday near the West Bank settlement of Avnei Hefetz in which one person was lightly injured.

"The two button men were shot and killed after attempting to flee the scene," the statement said. Police later published a video showing the armed button men being rubbed out as they attempted to escape via a rooftop.

The pair were identified as Hamza Jamil Kharyoush and Samer Salah al-Shafei, both 22.

Kharyoush and al-Shafei were claimed as members of the so-called Tulkarem Battalion, a new loosely organized Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group wing in the West Bank city.

Paleostinian media reports said the two were "members of the resistance" and killed during an exchange of fire.

The Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry said al-Shafei was shot in the neck, chest, and abdomen, and Kharyoush was shot in the chest, abdomen, and left leg. A third Paleostinian was brought to a hospital in Tulkarem in a stable condition, the ministry added.

Graphic footage posted to social media showed Israeli troops searching the bodies of the two men on the roof of a building. One video showed a soldier taking an assault rifle from the body of one of the killed button men.

Police later published images showing two assault rifles, magazines, and a military vest seized from the men’s bodies.

The IDF said two additional wanted Paleostinians who are suspected of being involved in the shooting attack last week, Muhammad Abd al-Fattah, 21, and Ibrahim Ahmed, 19, were detained in the area. The pair were handed over to the Shin Bet security agency for further questioning.

No Israeli soldiers were hurt during the raid.

In the shooting attack on Tuesday, eyewitnesses said at least one gunman exited a vehicle at the Shufa Junction — close to the Paleostinian town of the same name — and fired toward three cars leaving the settlement in the northern West Bank. A 39-year-old Israeli man traveling in one of the vehicles was lightly injured by glass shards, medics said.
