Blast Outside Military Airport in Kabul; Casualties Reported
[ToloNews] A blast took place on Sunday morning near the gate of the military airport in Kabul, a front man for the Ministry of Interior said.

MoI front man Abdul Nafay Takoor said that the blast inflicted casualties, leaving several people dead and maimed. But he did not provide the exact number of casualties.

"The incident happened at around 08:00 am. There were civilian casualties. Some people were maimed. But officials arrived and took action," said Mohammad Fahim, a eyewitness.

No one has so far grabbed credit for the attack.

At least 10 people were killed and eight more were maimed in a kaboom outside the military airport in Kabul, al-Jazeera reported, quoting sources within the Islamic Emirate.

Security officials have not commented on the number of casualties so far.

The blast is the first in 2023 in Afghanistan.
Al Jazeera speculates that ISIS-K dunnit, and adds:
A Kabul resident said late on Sunday his brother, an air force officer, was killed in the earth-shattering kaboom.

"He had worked in the previous government too as an air force officer," Abdul Noor told AFP news agency, referring to the removed, Western-backed government of former President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, ex-president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. When Biden abandoned the country left with a helicopter, four cars, and part of the national treasury...
"He and some of his colleagues were in a queue waiting to enter the military airfield when the blast occurred," Noor said, indicating the earth-shattering kaboom had caused more casualties.

Somali Govt reports heavy Al-Shabaab infighting in Galmudug
[ShabelleMedia] The Federal government of Somalia has issued a statement announcing fresh fighting in the central coastal region of Mudug, a hotbed of terror.

The battle occurred in the vicinity of Harardere after two groups within al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
disagreed over the surrender to the Somali army after a series of battlefield defeats.

A number of al-Shabaab fighters who left their base in Dabagalo to give up themselves to SNA clashed with fellow combatants who resisted the move, sparking an hour shootout.

"The skirmish started after fighters loyal to al-Shabaab commander named Muheyadin Daqare left the area engaged in a battle with other bully boys," said the statement.

At least seven Lions of Islam died in the combat which raged on for an hour. A number of al-Shabaab members are in jug for trying to surrender to the government.

The infighting comes as al-Shabaab lost grip in most strongholds in the south and central regions, including Hiran, where the group faced a massive military offensive last year.

The government is waging a war on al-Shabaab, which President Hassan Sheikh said is the final push to end the insurgency of 15-year-long insurgency in the horn of Africa nation.

Kenya confirms one soldier killed, four others injured in Al-Shabaab attack
[ShabelleMedia] At least one Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was Friday, December 30 killed after a vehicle he was traveling in was hit by an explosive in Lamu County.

KDF said in a statement five troops were maimed in the attack and one succumbed to the injuries.

The team was on normal patrol in the area of Mlima Faru in Lamu when they drove over an improvised bomb (IED).

It said those at death's doors were airlifted for specialized treatment while others were attended to and are in stable, pH balanced condition.

"The entire KDF fraternity condoles with the family of our fallen hero and wishes (a) quick recovery to our injured soldiers," the KDF said.

This is the third incident to hit the area in barely a week, leaving five people killed and property destroyed amid rising attacks by suspected members of al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

in the coastal region in the recent past.

Members of the holy warrior group have tried to sow terror in Lamu, a tourism resort region, and other areas close to the Kenya-Somali border, with most attacks targeting security vehicles on patrol.

The attack comes barely a week after the suspected al-shabaab Lions of Islam attacked a police vehicle between Hayley Lapsset camp and Garissa.

The police vehicle was heading to Garissa when it stepped on an improvised bomb.

They then attacked again using a rocket-propelled grenade followed by heavy gunfire that led to the death of one civilian and two coppers.

The vehicle attached to Galmagalla Police Station, Bura East operating along the LAPSSET corridor was also set ablaze by the assailants.

Kenya began the construction of the 700-kilometre long wall in 2015 to stop the Lions of Islam from crossing into and out of Kenya. The wall, which is known as the Kenya-Somalia border securitisation project is among others meant to secure the country from attacks by the Somalia-based al-Shabaab terrorists. The project plan includes having designated immigration and custom entry points with a tall concrete wall fitted with CCTV cameras.

Trenches are also being constructed in the area.

The plan includes the creation of at least 22 border posts on the border with well-equipped personnel to respond to any form of aggression.

Officials say once complete, the teams will be spread 40 kilometres apart to enable quick response to attacks from holy warriors.

The fence especially in Mandera and Lamu has helped reduce incidents of attacks by the Lions of Islam who often crossed at will.

Research by government security agencies says 30 percent of the country’s security problems are traced to the porous Somalia border often penetrated by terrorists.
Al-Shabaab has been launching cowardly attacks on Kenyan soil but the incidents have tremendously reduced due to improved surveillance in the country. The KDF team man's critical entry points and for the past few years, the Kenya-Somalia border has been closed due to security reasons.

There is also an influx of Al-Shabaab terrorists from Somalia following the ongoing crackdown which has seen the group lose strategic towns. A number of the militants mostly foreign fighters are using the Kenya border as an escape route to their native countries according to authorities in Kenya.

Northeastern counties of Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera are the worse affected by Al-Shabaab activities in Kenya but the presence of many troops has given a reprieve to locals. Kenya is actively engaged in the peacekeeping missions in Somalia having contributed over 3,500 soldiers to ATMIS.

Arabia
Saudi-backed forces take over areas of Lahj from UAE-led troops
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] During the early hours of Friday, button men loyal to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
imposed their control over many military points and locations belonging to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia in the coastal strip leading to the city of Aden, west of restive Lahj
... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
province.

According to media sources, the button men of al-Subaiha tribes, reinforced by the forces of the so-called Shield of the Nation , (Dera al-Watan) factions funded by Saudi Arabia, clashed with the STC’s "Security Belt" militia on the coastal road in the areas of Madhariba and Ras al-Ara districts, near Bab al-Mandab Strait, and forced them to leave their military positions.

The sources pointed out that al-Subaiha rustics took control of a number of points belonging to the "STC" militia and seized a number of military vehicles and equipment, indicating that Saudi directives ruled to hand over those areas to the forces supervised by Tariq Affash.

The sources stated that Saudi Arabia took advantage of the hostility between al-Subaiha rustics and the STC’s leaders of due to repeated violations against the tribes of al-Subaiha and fueled it by creating a military force from al-Subaiha, and presenting them to the arena as a parallel force and against the people of Dhalea.

The sources confirmed that the recruitment of al-Subaiha rustics and their funding from Saudi Arabia is a military step to besiege the STC from the northwestern side of the city of Aden, and in the same context worked to finance military brigades from the sons of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
to tighten their control over the eastern gate of Aden.

This comes after the Saudi-led coalition handover of al-Anad base to "Dera al-Watan Forces", which are supervised by "Tariq Affash" and funded by Saudi Arabia. They were trained during the past months on the west coast.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense summoned about 17 tribal sheikhs from al-Subaiha to Riyadh last month, and entrusted them with the task of expelling the STC militia from Madhariba and Ras al-Ara districts, west of Lahj province.

El Universal: Prison riots in northern Mexico kill 14

[REGNUM] At least 14 people have died as a result of riots in a prison in the state of Chihuahua in northern Mexico, El Universal newspaper reported January 1, citing local authorities.

The incident took place in the city of Ciudad Juarez. Ten guards and four prisoners were among the victims of the incident. In addition, another 13 people were injured.

In addition, approximately 24 prisoners were able to escape. The administration of the institution called the situation under control. The authorities launched an investigation into the events.

As REGNUM reported earlier , in mid-August, clashes broke out between two conflicting gangs of prisoners in a prison in the city of Ciudad Juarez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Three prisoners became victims of skirmishes.
Update from Fox News at 5:50 p.m ET, courtesy of Skidmark:
Gunmen in armored vehicles attacked a state prison just across the border from El Paso early Sunday, killing 10 guards and four inmates, prosecutors said.

Various armed vehicles arrived at the state prison in Ciudad Juarez at about 7 a.m. and opened fire at guards, the Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Amid the chaos, an additional 13 people were wounded and at least 24 inmates escaped.

Mexican soldiers and state police regained control of the prison later Sunday. The state prosecutor's office said its personnel were investigating.

The state prison was the scene of a riot in August that spread to the streets of Juarez, resulting in nearly a dozen people dead. In that case, two inmates were killed inside the prison and then alleged gang members started shooting up the town, including killing four employees of a radio station who were doing a promotion at a restaurant.

Violence is frequent in Mexican prisons, including in some where authorities only maintain nominal control. Clashes regularly erupt among inmates in rival gangs, which in places like Juarez serve as proxies for drug cartels.

Shortly before Sunday's attack on the prison, municipal police were attacked and captured four men after a pursuit, according to the state prosecutor's office statement. Later, police killed two alleged gunmen traveling in an SUV.

Iran's IRGC Believed To Behind Attacks On Jewish Centers In Germany: Reports
[DAILY WIRE] German law enforcement officials reportedly believe that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is a designated terrorist organization by the U.S., is behind a series of attacks on Jewish centers inside the country.

Iran International reported that Iran conducts the operations by hiring criminals outside of Iran.

Police have launched a probe investigating a terrorist cell in North Rhine-Westphalia, the report said. At least one of the suspects is believed to have been radicalized a while ago.

German intelligence believes that the IRGC is behind some of the anti-Semitic attacks inside the country, the report said.

Examples of the attacks include a shooting at a synagogue, arson at a synagogue, and other attacks on Jewish houses of worship.

"We’re talking about state terrorism here," an investigator said in reference to a German-Iranian suspect referred to as Ramin Y.

"Ramin Y. is the founder of the Mönchengladbach branch of the rocker club Hells Angels and is wanted on an international arrest warrant for, among other things, a murder in the rocker milieu," German TV Tagesschau reported, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Constable martyred in attack on police checkpost in KP’s Lakki Marwat: official
[Dawn] A "key terrorist" was killed and a police constable martyred in the early hours of Sunday when button men attacked a police checkpost in the Shahbaz Khel area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat District, a local police official said.

"The turbans attacked the police [checkpost] with heavy and automatic weapons and tried to break in," Lakki Marwat police spokesperson Shahid Hameed told Dawn.com, adding that RPG-7s, grenades and other "advanced weapons" were used.

"The attack was thwarted by the timely action of the police," the spokesperson said.

Hameed identified the martyred policeman as of Constable Tehsinullah of the Rapid Response Force.

"A key terrorist was killed during the police’s retaliatory action," the spokesperson said, identifying him as Owais Abdulkhel. Weapons were recovered from his possession.

The suspect was wanted by the CTD (Counter Terrorism Department) Bannu for being allegedly involved in attacks on police and security forces, Hameed said.

A police search operation is underway in the area.

The martyred police constable’s funeral prayers were offered at the office of the Lakki Marwat district police officer on Sunday morning, where they were attended by police and army officials.

The attack comes in the wake of a recent uptick in terrorist attacks across the country after the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) ended its months-long ceasefire with the government.

Recent weeks have seen a resurgence of militancy in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the southern belt and merged districts, with increasing intensity of attacks on law enforcement personnel. Most recently, a policeman was martyred and at least six people — including four coppers and two civilians — were maimed in a suicide kaboom in Islamabad’s I-10/4 sector last week. The attack was claimed by the TTP.

On Nov 16, 2022, six police personnel were reported to have been killed in what was described as a terror attack in Lakki Marwat after a police mobile patrol came under gunfire.
An army operation in Pakistain's northwest targeting turbans triggered a firefight that left a soldier and four fighters dead, the army's media wing said Sunday.

The development comes weeks after Pak Taliban detainees overpowered their guards at a counter-terrorism center in the northwest, snatching police weapons, taking hostages and seizing control of the facility.

The Pak Taliban, or TTP, have waged an insurgency over the past 15 years, fighting for stricter enforcement of Islamic law in the country, the release of their members in government custody and a reduction of Pak military presence in the country's former tribal regions.

It was not immediately clear if the four turbans killed late Saturday were from the TTP.

The operation in the Jani Khel area of Bannu in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province targeted turbans involved in attacking security forces and civilians, the army said. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the four slain assailants after an intense exchange of fire.

Bannu's army control center confirmed the operation, but declined to give further details. Jani Khel is close to the site of last month's hostage situation at the counter-terrorism center.

Militants late Saturday attacked a police checkpoint in the Lakki Marwat area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing an officer. One of the assailants was killed in retaliation, police said.

Anwar Shah, assistant sub-inspector at police control in Lakki Marwat, said Sunday that around 15 turbans attacked the Shehbaz Khel checkpoint at 12:15 a.m. with machine guns, RPGs and grenades.

3 PFI leaders go missing before NIA raid in Kerala: Did local police leak information?
[OneIndi] Three leaders of the Popular Front of India (PFI) went missing at Pathanamthitta in Kerala ahead of the raid by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA had on Thursday carried out raids in 56 different locations in connection with the PFI conspiracy case. Three leaders of the outfit are suspected to have fled from their residences after the NIA arrived at Pathanamthitta.

Reports said that three PFI leaders fled before the raid and there is a lurking suspicion that the local police may have leaked the information. The previous raids that took place in September before the PFI was banned was carried out by the NIA and the CRPF which is also under the Central Government. This time the NIA conducted the raid after intimating the local police.

Three locations in Pathanamthitta were raided and two leaders have been out of station, while one reportedly fled the location before the raid could take place.

With this the NIA is likely to probe the alleged leak of information to the PFI.

It may be recalled that in October the Kerala police had issued a clarification to the media refuting reports that claimed that the NIA had handed over details of 873 Kerala police officials who are suspected to have links with the PFI. Their release by Kerala police said that the reports are baseless in nature.

The raids that took place on Thursday are related to the murders of various Hindu leaders in the country. The NIA also is targeting the second-rung leaders of the outfit. In the first round of the raids held in September, which was across the country, the NIA arrested scores of top leaders. IDF clashes with Palestinians during demolition of gunmen’s homes
[IsraelTimes] Military operates in Kafr Dan, the Jenin-area hometown of two Paleostinians who killed Maj. Bar Falah on West Bank barrier in September

Clashes erupted Sunday night between the Israeli military and Paleostinian button men in a northern West Bank village, as troops entered to demolish the homes of two button men who killed an officer in September.

Footage published by Paleostinian media outlets showed a convoy of military vehicles entering Kafr Dan, the hometown of two Paleostinian button men who carried out a deadly attack along the West Bank security barrier on September 14, killing Maj. Bar Falah, 30, the deputy commander of the elite Nahal reconnaissance unit.

Amateur videos showed Paleostinians hurling stones at the Israeli military vehicles, as shots rang out in the background.

A local wing of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
and the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades terror groups issued statements saying members had shot up Israeli soldiers operating in the area.

Paleostinian media said at least one person was maimed by Israeli troops returning fire.

In a brief statement, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed troops had entered Kafr Dan to demolish the homes of Ahmed Abed and Abdul Rahman Abed, who were both killed in a shootout during the attack in September.

Ahmed Abed was an officer in the Paleostinian Authority security services.

The IDF had mapped out their homes a day after the attack — the first step before demolition — and had formally notified their families of its intention to raze the homes in September.

Israel regularly demolishes the homes of Paleostinians accused of carrying out deadly terror attacks, as a matter of policy. The efficacy of the measure has been hotly debated even within the Israeli security establishment, while human rights

activist muppets denounce the practice as unjust collective punishment.

A military investigation into the death of Falah pointed to "errors" made by troops, who detected the suspects near a military post and moved in to investigate but failed to realize they were armed and were caught unawares by their initial volley of fire, which hit Falah.

Tensions have spiked in the region in recent weeks as Israeli forces have ratcheted up arrest raids and other counterterror efforts following a series of terror attacks that left 31 people dead in 2022.

Israeli troops have repeatedly come under gunfire during nightly raids in the West Bank.

Kafr Dan is located close to Jenin, where a number of the attacks earlier in 2022 originated and where the IDF has concentrated much of its anti-terror campaign.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran arrests prominent soccer players at mixed-gender party with alcohol
[IsraelTimes] News agency says event was a birthday, and that most of those detained have been released

Iranian authorities have arrested soccer players who attended a mixed party east of Tehran, local media reported Sunday, without identifying them or giving their exact number.

"Several current and former players of one of Tehran’s prominent football clubs were arrested last night (Saturday) at a mixed party in the city of Damavand," Tasnim news agency said.

"Some of these players were in an abnormal state due to alcohol consumption," it added.

Iranian law only permits non-Moslems to consume alcohol for religious purposes. Dancing with the opposite gender is forbidden.

Iran’s YJC news agency said the party was a birthday event, and that all those detained, bar one, had since been released.

The Islamic Theocratic Republic has been rocked by unrest since the September 16 death in jug of Mahsa Amini, 22, following her arrest for an alleged breach of the strict dress code for women.

Iranian officials say hundreds of people have been killed in the unrest, including members of the security forces, and thousands have been arrested.

A number of current and former soccer players as well as other athletes and prominent figures have been detained or questioned by the authorities after voicing support for the protests.

Militiaman killed in central Iran protest
[An Nahar] A member of Iran's security forces has been rubbed out during protests in the city of Semirom, state media said Sunday, more than 100 days after Mahsa Amini's death sparked nationwide unrest.

Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been rocked by protests -- dubbed "riots" by the authorities -- since Amini, 22, died in jug on September 16 following her arrest for an alleged breach of the country's strict dress code for women.

"A Basij member was killed in the city of Semirom by armed criminals," official news agency IRNA reported, referring to the paramilitary force linked to the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

IRNA said protesters had gathered late Saturday in the city, about 470 kilometers (290 miles) south of the capital Tehran in the central Isfahan province.

They rallied in front of the regional administration building and other locations in Semirom, it added.

"Security forces were deployed to establish order in the city and, in some cases, festivities occurred with several rioters," the report said.

Iranian officials say hundreds of people have been killed in the nationwide unrest, including members of the security forces, and thousands arrested.

Tehran accuses hostile foreign powers and opposition groups of stoking the unrest.

Last month, Iran executed two men, both 23, who had been convicted of attacks against security forces in connection with the protests.

The judiciary has said nine others have been sentenced to death. Campaigners said this week dozens of protesters also face charges that carry a potential death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] Israel struck south of the Syrian capital of Damascus, according to the Syrian state television channel Al-Ikhbariya.

"The Israeli enemy attacked the south of the (Syrian - ed.) capital of Damascus," the channel said in a statement.

The Syrian state agency SANA previously reported explosions in the sky over the Syrian capital. According to him, the Syrian air defense repelled the attack in the sky over Damascus.
Incompletely, no doubt, as they always do.
The Israeli army systematically conducts airstrikes on various targets in Syria . Last year, Damascus , Aleppo, the port of Tartus and a research center in the city of Masyaf were subjected to shelling.

As Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, noted, the Syrian authorities have repeatedly turned to the secretary general of the organization because of the Israeli attacks, but there was no reaction from António Guterres . Moscow considers this unacceptable.

The Times of Israel adds:
A military source said that around 2 a.m. (23:00 GMT), Israel carried out an air attack with "barrages of missiles, targeting Damascus International Airport and its surroundings."

Weapons are thought to be smuggled to Iran-allied groups via Syria on Iranian cargo airlines, which frequently land at Damascus International and the Tiyas, or T-4, airbase, outside of the central Syrian city of Palmyra.

The reported strikes come some two weeks since the last alleged sorties. As a rule, Israel’s military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, but has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country.
