Russian soldiers dying at highest rate since beginning of war: UK gov
[NYPOST] Russia’s army is currently losing soldiers at the highest rate since the first week of the war almost a year ago — with a remarkable 824 troops dying each day, UK officials say.

The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense made the stunning claim Sunday, citing Ukrainian General Staff updates, but said it could not verify Ukraine’s methodology.

"The trends the data illustrate are likely accurate," the Ministry said.

At rate of 824 deaths per day is about four times higher than the mean in June-July 2022, the UK government said.

"Ukraine also continued to suffer a high attrition rate," the Defense Intelligence update stated without providing specific numbers. "The uptick in Russian casualties is likely due to a range of factors including lack of trained personnel, coordination and resources across the front — this is exemplified in Vuhledar and Bakhmut."

Ukraine’s Armed Forces on Saturday said some of the fiercest battles are being fought in the city of Vuhledar, in the besieged Donetsk region.

Russia’s Wagner mercenary group said Sunday it had taken Krasna Hora, on the north edge of Bakhmut, which Ukraine insisted the previous day it continues to hold while attempting to "stabilize" the towns around it.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio wondered: Where the hell was Chumbaloni? And where was his $600?...
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser Mykhailo Podolyak on Saturday said peace talks with Russia won’t happen after the Kremlin’s latest bombings, which Ukraine said included at least 100 missiles launched Friday.

"In periodic ’peace and talks’ rhetoric the Kremlin says it won’t leave the [Ukraine] territories & won’t be responsible for crimes," Podolyak tweeted. "It’s another proof that talks are out of the question. Only [Ukraine] victory, otherwise the war in Europa

#2  "Ukraine also continued to suffer a high attrition rate," the Defense Intelligence update stated without providing specific numbers.

"In other news, today's sports scores are 7, 3, and 21."
Yeah, it is an old joke, but it is a bit tough to draw conclusions from the numbers without knowing the Ukr side.

As for Bakhmut, that city of little strategic importance, unless the Ukrainians pull back to preserve their army, it will be a replay of Mariupol. Supply lines will be cut, the city encircled and then pounded to heck with artillery until the defenders are dead or surrendered. Unless the Russians are in a hurry for some reason, they will not try to take Bakhmut all at once.

#3  Is the narrative still that the Russian casualty rate at Bakhmut Meat Grinder is unsustainable for RUS while a similar Ukrainian casualty rate is sustainable for UKR?

And Does Bakhmut represent how little Ukraine values its people, its human capital?

Surely Ukraine must value it citizens less if they are haphazardly sending them to their death defending a city with little value. So I must conclude ukrianian lives have less value than the little strategic value it costs to hold the city.

#11  You got nothing Dale. You know your side is taking horrendous casualties in the Great Russian Tradition. Mossimo is right in one aspect. Bakhmut holds no special value to Ukraine, except that the Russians are willing to destroy their army for it. That makes it extremely valuable for Ukraine when they can inflict 5:1 or more casualty ratios (soldiers on the line claiming 10+:1 is not uncommon) made worse by the fact Wagner takes little care of their wounded, leaving most of them to die on the battlefield.

Every Russian casualty now is 1:3 Ukrainian casualties avoided when Ukraine goes on the offensive.

So go back to Montana Colorado, raise rabbits and have your round wife cook them for you.

#13  the value of Bakhmut is symbolic

in 2014 the Russian backed/supported separatists took this city but were ousted by the Ukrainians

If I were the Ukrainian strategist I would not contest this at the cost of deploying 10 brigades.

and, of course if I were a Russian strategist I would probably advise withdrawal and be shot or sent to Siberia

Preparing for a general offensive: what is the strength of the new weapon for Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Vesti] Allies step up arms transfer to Ukraine ahead of intensified hostilities

Germany's decision to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 heavy tanks is the main issue of the current Rammstein . Before this, the eighth in a row, meeting of the heads of defense departments of 50 countries, the purpose of which is to coordinate assistance to Ukraine, Ukraine itself, its closest partners, as well as allies insisted on opening deliveries of heavy offensive tanks. Warsaw even declared that it was ready to transfer these tanks, which are in service with the Polish Army, even without the permission of Berlin, to which the new German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius noted: everything will become clear "in the next few hours."

What exactly became clear to Pistorius, what other weapons are being handed over to Ukraine and how much they can change the situation on the battlefield - Vesti.ua found out.

“TIME REMAINS A WEAPON OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION”
The "maximum program" for Ukraine was announced by Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov: more air defense systems, weapons for offensive operations - tanks, howitzers and ammunition for them. "I'm sure we'll have tanks, and combat aircraft, and long-range weapons that can hit targets 300 kilometers away," Reznikov hinted at ATACMS missiles for HIMARS systems with a range of 300 kilometers.

Until now, they have not been supplied to Ukraine, as it is believed, in order not to expand the actions of Ukrainian artillery to the border areas of the Russian Federation. But the main thing that the president indicated in his welcoming speech was time. "It remains a Russian weapon. We need to speed up, and it must become our weapon as well - just like air defense and artillery, armored vehicles and tanks, which we are negotiating with you," Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded.

The figurative message of the President was not a surprise for Western partners. Opening the meeting in Ramstein, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, also outlined the urgency of the moment. "The moment is decisive. The Russian Federation is regrouping, recruiting, trying to re-equip. The moment is not one to slow down - it's time to dig deeper," the US Secretary of Defense said. "The Ukrainian people are watching us. The Kremlin is watching. And history itself."

It should be noted that no one expected a meeting for the sake of a meeting. A day earlier, the Pentagon announced a new $2.5 billion military aid package to Ukraine that includes offensive armored vehicles: 90 Stryker armored personnel carriers and 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. Also promised are munitions for HIMARS missile systems and NASAMS air defense systems, HARM missiles, artillery shells, ammunition, 8 Avenger air defense systems and 350 HMMWV vehicles, i.е. SUVs "Humvee". Plus Claymore anti-personnel mines, night vision devices and spare parts.

In parallel, on the same day, a meeting of several EU defense ministers was held at the Estonian military base in Tapa. "Mini-Ramstein" ended with the announcement of British Defense Minister Ben Wallace on the transfer of 600 Brimstone missiles to Ukraine, Denmark promised 19 self-propelled artillery mounts CAESAR. Estonia will send military equipment worth 113 million euros. Latvia will send us Stinger systems, two M-17 helicopters, machine guns and drones.

But that's not all. A number of countries on the eve of "Rammstein" announced the transfer of anti-aircraft missile systems, and the latest, capable of closing the sky over major cities. The Netherlands announced the delivery of another battery of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine (together with the battery promised to us by the United States, and another from Germany, this is already three, while there are only four of them in service with the Netherlands itself). And Italy will supply the SAMP/T air defense battery capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.

CONTROVERSIAL "LEOPARDS"
There was no most important thing - heavy tanks. In any case, they were not announced in sufficient numbers to meet at least the primary needs of Ukraine. First of all, we are talking about the best tanks that the Western military industry can provide - the German Leopard 2, the transfer of which could take place in the near future (the Bundeswehr warehouses have a lot of vehicles ready for transfer, there are those from the manufacturing company "Rheinmetall" ).

"It’s not just the Leopard that matters to us, it’s just the tanks that are important. But the Leopard is one of the best. Its entire production, technical and service base is located in Europe. This is a tank that is beneficial for the Armed Forces in all respects," says Vesti.ua military expert, reserve colonel Oleg Zhdanov.

On the eve of "Ramstein" a real campaign was launched to convince the political leadership of Germany of the need to transfer "Leopards" to Ukraine. The fact is that in the summer and autumn, Berlin cited dozens of arguments about why it is not worth supplying Ukraine with tanks: the FRG cannot risk transferring too many weapons; Ukrainian soldiers cannot use complex weapons without training (this did not prevent our defenders from mastering Gepard anti-aircraft guns); there was even a curious argument that the day before the start of the war, the Euro-5 certificates for almost all weapons of the Bundeswehr expired (and Berlin cannot afford to harm the environment of Eastern Europe).

Finally, the main condition was not named publicly, but it was reported by sources to several media outlets at once: Germany does not agree to supply Leopard 2 alone. "The Germans demand (delivery of) tanks and will not budge, considering other US proposals (other than agreeing to sendAbrams . – Auth.),” wrote CNN on Friday morning.

UNCONVINCED SCHOLZ
To convince Berlin, France announced on the eve of the likely supply of Leclerc main battle tanks. Britain - Challenger tanks with similar characteristics. The strongest pressure was from Poland, whose army is armed with German "Leopards". “Either we will get this consent (from Germany), or we will do what we need ourselves,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki replied about the tanks. “The main thing is that the Germans, Danes, Finns, French and other countries offer modern tanks as soon as possible.”

As a result, Poland, Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and, probably, other countries agreed to provide Leopards to Ukraine, but unofficially. However, Germany remained adamant. The crucial phone call between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joseph Biden took place on Tuesday, December 17, according to Bild. “He (Scholz) made clear his position – “main battle tanks only together,” the publication clarified, adding that on Wednesday at a government meeting, Scholz announced the call and that until the United States decides to supply Abrams tanks to Ukraine, – Germany will not make a decision.

This predetermined the "tank" outcome of the summit in Ramstein. If before it began, the new head of the Ministry of Defense, 62-year-old Boris Pistorius, was playing for time, arguing for the reluctance to give a clear answer by the presence of pros and cons for each of the allied countries, then towards evening he spoke more clearly. "We cannot say today what the decision will be and when it will be made. I would like to act quickly if the decision is made. But if the decision is negative, nothing can be done."

The decision, apparently, was made precisely with a minus sign. “The Leopard itself is an excellent vehicle. However, what our partners promised us is the A4 level, and this is the equipment that corresponds to our T-72,” explains military expert Oleg Starikov. “Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need tanks of the A7 level. In addition, their number should be much more than 14 cars (Poland offered Ukraine such a number. - Auth.)."

WHAT TO PREPARE FOR
The scale of Ukraine's requests and an even larger response to them is preparation for a general battle. According to Starikov, a new winter campaign of strategic importance is beginning at the front. And it is precisely on the basis of the results of hostilities in the next few months that a decision will be made to restructure the entire security architecture of the European continent.

"Estimate: Ukraine today is given the same amount of weapons and equipment as we received in all 11 months of hostilities. I hope they will give us about 260 tanks - this is a division. Up to 200 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles - up to 500. All this is preparation to the general battle, - the expert is convinced. - All this equipment is designed to work on hard ground, and given that the cold snap will begin in February and March, I think actions are scheduled for this time, and the parties are waiting for who will strike first."

The direction of attack is still unclear. As Vesti.ua already wrote, on the northern borders, both the State Border Service and Ukrainian intelligence do not record any significant movements and activity of the RF Armed Forces.

"The main direction is the Donbass, and this is the number one task for the leadership of the Russian Federation in the spring,” General of the Army, ex-head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Mykola Malomuzh tells Vesti.ua. “Further there are ambitions related to the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. From Belarus an offensive is unlikely - it is extremely difficult to organize operations in several directions at once."

However, the Russian Federation declares its readiness for a protracted war. And it provides for mobilization, this time no longer "partial" - although Moscow officially denies its beginning, it is inevitable, experts say.

Malomuzh clarifies: the full-scale invasion on February 24 of the Russian Federation began with a relatively modest army of 200-250 thousand people (the number of the Bundeswehr is 183 thousand people, the Polish Army reaches 164 thousand). But in the Russian Federation they realized the scale of the tasks and set about forming new divisions, corps, "and for what purposes - hardly even Putin himself understands," the general added.

The other day, the President of the Russian Federation instructed to increase the army to 1.5 million servicemen over the next three years, create a new army corps and two military districts near the borders with Finland. “This statement is not without reason. Each General Staff has an organizational and mobilization department that considers which units need reinforcements, what needs to be created, and so on,” says Starikov. “Today, if you fill all the existing units, you can get just up to 1 .5 million soldiers."

The question is in providing and financing such an army. Oleg Zhdanov believes that this is the main obstacle to creating a million-strong army in modern Europe. “Perhaps they will still find uniforms, machine guns for half a million soldiers. But the main question is different: how to pay? If Moscow starts mass printing money, inflation will break out,” the reserve colonel believes. According to Zhdanov, there are not as many problems with the equipment and technical equipment of the Russian military as it might seem. Russia began to massively conclude contracts for military cooperation with Belarus, North Korea and China. The latter, according to the expert, helps the RF Armed Forces with dry rations.

On the other hand, from lb.ua:
Russian Federation does not have the resources for a major offensive, - GUR

Moscow will step up its efforts in Donbas in the coming weeks.

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense claims that Russia does not have the resources for a large-scale offensive in Ukraine.

This was stated by the representative of the military intelligence Andriy Chernyak, the press service of the State Government informs.

According to him, information is spreading in the media about the alleged large-scale Russian offensive planned for February 24, but the enemy has been conducting it since the beginning of the great war. He noted that Moscow will intensify its efforts in Donbas in the coming weeks, and now the occupiers are trying to find weak points in the Ukrainian defense.

The scout emphasized that the Russian command does not have sufficient resources for large-scale offensive operations, and the main goal of the enemy remains to achieve at least some tactical success in the east.

We will remind that the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense Andriy Yusov said that the Russian missile blitzkrieg failed, but the enemy will continue to strike.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: February 12th, 2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 22:22 Kuleba announced "big events" on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation: "There will be many important political signals, there will be decisions on sanctions, weapons, there will be symbols of unity, and this will happen at all levels. I will say this: Russia will remember how the world celebrates anniversary of its full-scale aggression against Ukraine".

22:16 On the evening of February 12, the Russians launched a reconnaissance UAV and several balloons with corner reflectors into the Dnipropetrovsk region, the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. Air defense worked on the enemy drone, the result is being specified.

Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat specified that the Russians are launching drones to study air defense: "They started attacking in small groups in the evening. They are studying the work of our air defense, and reconnaissance drones may appear to inspect the consequences of strikes."

21:15 Zelensky, in an evening video message, stressed that today's sanctions against 200 people concern mainly those who work for the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation: "And we are doing everything to ensure that sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry become part of the global sanctions against Russia for the war. This But there was a time when other restrictions against Russia seemed difficult to implement - for example, on oil and oil products... Russia's radiation blackmail of the world must be punished. We will also talk about this at various diplomatic levels next week".

20:37 Since November 2022, Iran has supplied Russia with 18 attack drones of a new type: 12 Shahed-129 and Shahed-191, as well as six Mohajer-6 units, The Guardian writes, citing its sources. According to the publication, these drones were chosen by the Russian military delegation during its secret visit to Tehran.

19:54 To finalize the war, Ukraine must destroy 5,000 Russian soldiers a day, Podolyak said: “Russia has accumulated a lot of manpower, which, unfortunately, we need to destroy as quickly as possible. That is, we need to do not a thousand“ funerals ”a day for Russia, but 2,500, 3,000, and better - 5,000. Only this can begin to finalize this war. Only destruction, destruction and destruction."
Is that realistic? We’re told Wagner has lost three fourths of the 40,000 prisoners they started with, but prisoner volunteers are not the same as recruits.
Podolyak added that long-range missiles, tanks and aircraft are needed to quickly eliminate the invaders: “These are the three tools that we urgently need at this stage. We also need 155 mm caliber shells, we need missiles for air defense. And they will also talk about this on Rammstein.

18:48 The Russian army is concentrating its main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Kupyansky, Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky and Novopavlovsky directions. It is strengthening its grouping of troops in the Limansky and Bakhmutsky directions, actively using aviation to strike at the positions of Ukrainian troops, the General Staff said in an evening summary.

In the Kherson region, the invaders are forcing pensioners to obtain Russian passports, threatening to stop paying pensions.
A good reason not to rely on any government retirement income...
16:27 The Swiss bank Credit Suisse has blocked Russian assets worth more than $19 billion, which is one third of all declared Russian assets in Switzerland, according to Sonntags Zeitung. Of this amount, only 4.32 billion dollars belong to persons who were previously included in the sanctions list by the Swiss authorities, the remaining 14.7 billion dollars relate to persons who were sanctioned in other states. In addition, Credit Suisse froze the funds of the Russian Central Bank.

15:34 Pakistan sent Ukraine more than 10,000 rockets for the Grad MLRS, the Indian edition of The Economic Times reported, citing its sources. The shells will be sent through the German port of Emden with subsequent transit through Poland.

15:06 From Monday, February 13, the military will close access to Bakhmut for all civilians, including volunteers, said the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign Madyar. It will be possible to get to Bakhmut only with special passes. The purpose of the ban is to ensure the safety of civilians from enemy sabotage groups that penetrate the city. At the same time, the military themselves will help the local residents who remain in Bakhmut.

According to the military, street fighting continues on the outskirts of the eastern and southern parts of Bakhmut, the enemy is trying to surround the city from the flanks.

14:43 Near the village of Novoraysk, Beryslav district, Kherson region, two people who were driving a civilian car along a field road were blown up by a Russian mine. Both died on the spot, the OVA said.

14:28 If Russia continues a new round of mobilization, it will suffer from the same problems that the previous wave revealed, including a lack of modern equipment in working condition and a sufficient number of combat-ready officers, training a huge influx of unprepared people, Vadym Skibitsky, a representative of the military intelligence of Ukraine, said in an interview The Wall Street Journal. According to him, the Russian Federation is preparing for a second wave of mobilization, but will probably delay it because it has not overcome all the difficulties that it experienced during the first wave. "They were not ready then for such a large-scale mobilization, and they are not ready now," the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is convinced.

13:35 Even if Russia launches a nuclear strike on Ukraine, 89% of Ukrainians intend to continue hostilities, a survey commissioned by the Munich Security Conference showed. In addition, 85% of Ukrainians surveyed do not consider the withdrawal of the Russian Federation to the front line as of February 24 an acceptable basis for a ceasefire. At the same time, 75% of respondents believe that Ukraine will never be safe without Western guarantees.

12:59 Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against 200 individuals associated with the Russian Federation. The restrictions apply mainly to citizens of Russia. The list, in particular, included one of Putin's closest aides in foreign economic policy, Yuri Ushakov, as well as Ukrainian collaborator Andrei Chernichuk, whom Rosatom appointed as the "general director" of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

12:13 The Russians probably attracted foreign mercenaries to organize a drone attack on the territory of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported, citing the interception of the conversations of the occupiers during a massive attack on February 10. The interlocutors communicated in a dialect of the Kurdish language interspersed with words in Farsi. This intercept may indicate that Kurdish mercenaries with experience in the combat use of Shahed are also fighting on the side of the Russians, intelligence notes and recalls that during their operations in Syria, Russian troops have already attracted armed detachments consisting of Kurdish and Afghan mercenaries.

12:07 On February 11, the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit two boats that the Russians were preparing to maneuver sabotage and reconnaissance groups in the Dnieper Delta, spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces Natalya Gumenyuk said. She also said that there was no deployment of forces behind enemy lines that could launch an attack on the right-bank Kherson region. At the same time, a certain concentration of troops is located in the Zaporozhye direction, but the situation there is under control.

11:52 Duda said that Russia can defeat Ukraine if Kiev does not receive military equipment in the coming weeks. According to him, Putin can win, "and we don't know where he will stop."

11:29 Electricity consumption in Ukraine remains high, but there is no shortage of power today, Ukrenergo reported. Consumption limits have not been set to date, but in the event of an increase in consumption, emergency shutdowns may be applied. In particular, this applies to Odessa, Kyiv, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr regions and the city of Kyiv. Ukrenergo stressed that the removal of consumption limits applies only to the day of February 12, and with the start of the working week, the restrictions may return.

11:13 The Russians fired on Nikopol from barrel artillery in the morning - one person was killed, one was wounded. Four high-rise buildings, a water utility and a college building were damaged in the city, said Serhiy Lysak, head of the Dnepropetrovsk OVA.

10:40 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) states that the Russian military failed to quickly prepare those mobilized for effective offensive operations. According to analysts, the tactical failures of the Russian troops near Ugledar have further weakened the belief of the Russian ultra-nationalist community that the Russian Federation is capable of launching a decisive offensive operation.

ISW notes that the Russian military command deploys its most elite units in the Bakhmut area in small groups, using the tactics of infiltrating the city. This tactic appears to facilitate a significant advance of Russian forces in Bakhmut, which could result in operational advantages if Ukrainian forces decide to retreat from there.

At the same time, this tactic is more suited to dense urban environments, so analysts say the Russian military is unlikely to be able to expand its offensive from the Bakhmut area to a wider area. In addition, Russian troops lack the elite formations needed to carry out a larger offensive in eastern Ukraine in the same way.

10:27 The Russians recently organized several powerful attacks in the Kremensk direction, suffered significant losses and retreated to replenish, said the head of the Lugansk OVA, Sergei Gaidai. According to him, the enemy is shelling Ukrainian positions in Belogorovka from tanks, heavy artillery and aircraft. And in the occupied territories, the Russians check smartphones even in children.

According to intelligence estimates, the average value of the Russian casualty data for the last week was 824 deaths per day, which is four times higher than the figure for June-July 2022. The increase in Russian casualties is likely due to a number of factors, including a lack of trained personnel, coordination and resources at the front - examples of this are Ugledar and Bakhmut, analysts say.

09:42 On the evening of February 11, the Russians attacked the critical infrastructure of Ukraine with loitering ammunition in the southeast direction, the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. • special equipment - 215 (+1).

08:37 During the unsuccessful assaults on Vugledar and Avdiivka, the Russians lost 103 pieces of equipment in three days on February 8-10, including 36 tanks, analysts of the Oryx project calculated. According to them, Ukraine lost 20 pieces of equipment during the same period, including two tanks. Thus, the ratio of losses by the evening of February 10 was about 5:1. The overall ratio of equipment losses by Russia and Ukraine, according to Oryx, is 9189 and 2941, or 3.12 to 1.

08:24 The Russian army continues to focus its main efforts on offensive operations in the Kupyansky, Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky and Novopavlovsky directions. It actively uses operational-tactical and army aviation to strike at the positions of Ukrainian troops, the General Staff said in a morning summary .

Over the past day, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled attacks by Russians in the areas of Belogorivka and Serebryansky forestry in the Luhansk region and Torsky, Fedorovka, Bakhmut, Ivanovsky, Chasov Yar, Pervomaisky, Pobeda, Maryinka and Vugledar in the Donetsk region.

In Brilovka and Novokievka, Kherson region, the occupying "local administration" takes away housing from the local population. Servicemen of the Russian troops actively go from house to house and check the presence of residence permits and documents on the ownership of housing. Abandoned houses are sealed with a message that they have passed into the ownership of the "local administration".

07:39 A new military training ground and a military camp will be built in the Gomel region of Belarus, near the border with Ukraine, reports Belaruski Gayun. The landfill is planned to be built in 2023-2025, $11 million will be spent on this.

06:33 Crimean partisans appealed through the telegram channel Crimea - the land of partisan glory to the local population with a request to report on the places of accumulation of Russian troops and equipment, especially in the north of the peninsula. 06:05 Russian intelligence agencies have stepped up the recruitment of spies in the UK to sow chaos in the country, writes The Sun. The journalists claim they received emails from sources close to the Kremlin. These letters say that the Kremlin is looking for people "capable of committing sabotage for large sums of money."

05:14 In Ukraine, they intend to organize a joint production of military equipment and weapons with the UK under a license - such plans are discussed by high-ranking officials of the defense industry of the two countries, The Daily Telegraph writes, citing sources. According to the publication, representatives of Britain have already visited Ukraine to discuss the issue of production.

Previously, we are talking about the creation of joint ventures that will produce weapons and vehicles. The publication notes that a number of other countries are conducting similar negotiations with Ukraine. British companies are striving to get ahead of competitors from Germany and France.

01:12 Reznikov said that Ukraine has deprived Russia of dominance in the Black Sea, and this makes the risk of capturing Odessa minimal. According to the minister, Ukraine did this, in particular, by successfully using its own Neptunes, with the help of which the cruiser Moskva was sunk. “Plus, the Harpoon anti-ship systems are serving, so I don’t see any chance for them to approach Odessa from the sea,” he added.

Reznikov recalled that they failed to approach by land last time, and by now the Russians have already been thrown back to the left bank of the Dnieper, which in itself, with destroyed bridges and crossings, is a powerful natural protective barrier. "As for the left-bank territories of southern Ukraine, the enemy grouping there has the ability to replenish with weapons, equipment, and people, so the situation there, of course, is more tense," the head of the Defense Ministry added.

Schindlers from Malaya Arnautskaya. Five ways to escape from Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Men aged 18–60 cannot simply pick up and leave Ukraine from the beginning of the SVO - from February 24, 2022. However, there are several ways to overcome this travel ban. Each of them is associated with significant costs and certain risks. The Ukrainian state is trying in every possible way to stop the leakage of the mobilization resource.

Thirty years ago, the film Schindler's List was released in the United States, which collected many Oscars and made the story of a German industrialist who organized an ingenious scheme to save Jews from imminent death well-known. It is known that history repeats itself - in the form of a farce.

Therefore, 30 years after the release of Spielberg's film, we have a Ukrainian "Schindler" - an Odessa psychiatrist who, for $ 7,000, organized disability reports for those liable for military service with their confirmation by the military medical commission. With such a package of documents it was possible to travel abroad. The psychiatrist has been uncovered and will be judged. This is not the first such case, a similar "criminal" was exposed in Odessa back in August.

For those who didn't have $7,000 for a "real" fake certificate, there was an option to buy a fake one. They were printed for $1,600 by an underground printing house discovered by the Odessa police in November 2022. Rather, they issued not only a fake certificate, but the entire package of documents at once: a military ID, a medical report, a certificate of deregistration from the territorial recruitment center (TCK - a former military registration and enlistment office).

It cost 4.5 times cheaper than buying a real document. It is possible that this is why the printing house was closed. In order not to bring down the price of competitors.

WHY DON'T THEY RUN
At this point, we need to make a small digression for Russian readers who write comments on the Internet: “Run from there! Leave, why are you sitting there and waiting for mobilization?"

Let's even highlight with a bold from the new paragraph:

Men aged 18–60 cannot simply pick up and leave Ukraine from the beginning of the SVO - from February 24, 2022.

Last autumn, when partial mobilization started in Russia, certain restrictive measures were also introduced. But there was still no complete ban. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the State Duma, Rostourism could interpret the same norms in different ways, while the authorities of the border regions, to the best of their understanding, solved the dilemma “let it go or not let it go”. But with the completion of the mobilization, all this ended.

In Ukraine, everything is different. You can leave if you are deregistered (due to age or health status); as a disabled person of I, II groups or accompanying a disabled person of I, II groups; father of 3 or more children under the age of 18 or a single father (widower) with a child; to study.

But there are nuances.

"HE BURIED YOU"
The "widower and child" scheme was one of the first. It was already used in March 2022. The husband and wife left separately, while the children went with their father, and the father with a fake certificate stating that his wife had died/disappeared. Now this scheme is almost never used - as well as leaving under the guise of a disabled person with the conclusion of a medical and social examination (MSEK).

Both types of documents were forged too actively, control over them was tightened, and the opportunity to leave almost disappeared. From 2023, the holder of a certificate of disability must prove that he received the required social benefits from the state and provide a certificate of deregistration.

That is why the Odessa military doctors beat 7,000 dollars for a full package: just a disability, without deregistration, costs 2-4 times cheaper.

FICTITIOUS MARRIAGE
But the scheme of leaving through a fictitious marriage with mothers of many children works. And the law here is surprisingly not strict:

“According to the law, a man who is married to a mother of many children can receive the status of a father of many children even without adopting children.” those. married, moved out (even without a family is possible), divorced.

Another scheme works similarly - through marriage with a disabled woman. Moreover, since the fall of 2022, such a husband can also leave Ukraine without his soul mate. In addition, now she works for the third, most massive group of disabilities.

The average cost of such a marriage is from 2,000 to 3,000 dollars.

FOR WEALTHY GUYS
You can not cheat, but find "exits" and simply give money to the border guards, leaving Ukraine illegally.

Forbes-Ukraine, on condition of anonymity, asked its source in the Ministry of Economy whether there were many such cases?

“Tens of thousands of men… [Our source] says the ministry has agreed not to disclose numbers of ‘illegal’ border crossings so as not to demotivate society.”

Yes, that's possible. Even now, albeit more difficult.

But, firstly, it is expensive and not for everyone. Secondly, if you meddle only with money, without connections, there is a risk of repeating the fate of Ostap Bender (“Branzuletka! Bronzuletka!”). This happened even with deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.

Departure for money is quite shady and semi-legal.

In this case, the exit occurs through one of the legal ways: as a truck driver, a volunteer (from volunteer organizations whose employees are allowed to leave), under the guise of an employee of a company / organization who are allowed to travel. Basically, such privileges are available through the “Shlyakh” (“Way”) system, a database of persons who have a “green light” at the border.

The current price ranges from $5,000 to $6,000, which is twice as high as in summer: the Security Service of Ukraine has begun to file permits in the database.

LEARN, STUDENT!
Studying is an effective way to hang out, but, unfortunately, not to escape. There are enough universities in the EU countries that accept Ukrainian citizens for study. This instantly made going to school an attractive escape scheme: legally, inexpensively, prestigiously (I didn’t run away, but went to study).

But only in theory.

In practice, the border guards turned these students home en masse.

Moreover, they supposedly have the right to leave (says the Ministry of Internal Affairs), but the State Border Service, together with the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have found a way to bypass this right. Students were required to take permission to travel to the TCC, but they simply did not issue it there.

But no one bothers to enter a Ukrainian university and gnaw at the granite of science there. The study delay is still in effect.

WAY SOUTH
In theory, there is another legal and relatively inexpensive way to exit - through the Vasilyevka checkpoint in the Zaporozhye region. This is the only officially valid route across the front line. It is here that the exchanges of prisoners and the bodies of the dead take place.

But this route has some disadvantages:

"On the Ukrainian side, a very small number are produced - 20-40 cars a day, although there are much more people who want to. Some people have been waiting in line for more than a month to enter our territory," says Natalya Romanichenko, head of the Vasilyevsky district of the Zaporozhye region of Russia.

There are facts of extortion of bribes and robbery of refugees by the Ukrainian side. Not to mention the fact that you can get stuck in a no-man's-land for several days and/or get under fire.

HOW NOT TO GET TO THE FRONT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THREE CHILDREN
The only completely legal, safe and inexpensive way to leave Ukraine is with children. Three or more. Unfortunately, not everyone has them.

All other methods are either dangerous or too costly. 5,000 to 10,000 dollars, even in peacetime, is serious money for the average Ukrainian family.

Just for these reasons, a huge number of men (including the author of these lines) are still in Ukraine. There are no reliable “exits”, and there are no such amounts for a bribe. It is too dangerous to drive through Vasilievka. Especially with family.

Of course, there is a risk of thundering in the TCC, but there are ways to significantly reduce it:

- Do not live at the place of registration.

- Do not get a job (officially), work remotely (the bonus is the absence of direct taxes to the budget, which today mainly goes to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

- Stop going outside from morning until 8-9 pm. Quarantine survived, no stranger. For extreme cases - a taxi.

- Subscribe and monitor telegram channels and chats that track the work and routes of "runners" from military registration and enlistment offices.

- In the Ukrainian military registration and enlistment offices, it’s still a mess, so there is a very real chance that your personal file will simply be lost (as happened with the author of these lines), which means that even the summons will not come to the place of registration.

- Trust in God that will carry
.
In fact, the worst thing is not even that we are locked up here and risk being faced with a choice: to the front or to prison. And the fact that even the Third Reich had its own Schindler. And we don't have it. Only such as on Malaya Arnautskaya.

China-Japan-Koreas
The West continues to believe that lying is the best policy
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Dmitry Kosyrev

[RIA] From recent reports: the construction of eight new local airports has resumed in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. And this fact is unlikely to please James Milward, a professor at Georgetown University, USA. A professor came out with an angry article a couple of weeks ago called "China's New Campaign Against the Uyghurs."

Agree, if eight airports are being built somewhere in addition to the 25 already available, this does not fit very well into the main thesis of the long-bored campaign around Xinjiang - that this is such a wilderness and a backwater, where you can only get on a camel, and therefore you'd better believe "sources" about what atrocities are happening in this lost world in the center of the Eurasian continent.

But Professor Milward gives us an excellent visual aid for studying the mechanics of totalitarian information campaigns. First and foremost: such campaigns never die, even if their thesis is obviously incompatible with life (and reality). All the same, we must confidently hammer on one point: everything that we said before was true. Here the professor lists all the same things that were said earlier - about concentration camps throughout Xinjiang, about slave labor and so on.

At the same time, he, however, admits that "as soon as the UN member countries had to take a clear position on Xinjiang, Beijing won." Twenty-two Western countries sent a corresponding letter to the UN Commission on Human Rights - and instantly China mobilized 37 other countries for a letter saying that, in fact, everything was fine in XUAR. Approximately the same alignment of forces in the UN Human Rights Council.

Did the lie go away? But this is where the second rule of smear campaigning comes into play: pay no attention to your failures. Next - the third rule: to pile up a new lie on a failed lie, that is, toss something fresh all the time.

Here the professor throws up. Referring thus, as it is necessary, to anonymous sources. Who report that now the "concentration camps for re-education" may be closed, but one hundred thousand (a good, round number) of their inhabitants have been transferred to factories, to work against their will. In total, up to two million people work forcibly. Also: unfortunate Uyghur women are forced to marry Chinese and absorb Chinese culture. And children are driven to boarding schools, where, if they begin to speak Uighur, they are put in basements for many hours. With rats or not is not mentioned.

It is difficult and uninteresting to find out why the American professor ended up in the role of a drain tank for suppliers of fakes. A human rights activist is, in fact, a diagnosis, that is, a special style of thinking and behavior. But another rule of such information campaigns fits within this style: they prescribe only one medicine in all cases. Sanctions.

And as many "Xinjiang" sanctions against China have already been introduced. Milward honestly admits: they do not work. For example, anyone importing something from China into the US is required to prove that their product does not contain the element of "forced labor" from Xinjiang. But these goods, for example, through third countries, still fill the American market.

Conclusion? Like this: we need new sanctions, and the old ones will work sooner or later. And these doctors do not know more medicines.

Returning to the conversation about airports, here is the picture. Not a single region of China, even today, is covered by such a network of passenger and cargo routes as Xinjiang. Four more international routes will open this year. All together it turns out - the most open and dynamically developing part of the country today. And to fly there to look around and notice - in which case - something bad, millions of Chinese or foreigners can at any moment.

But all the same, human rights activists will tell you, somewhere in the remote, deserted corners of Xinjiang, where you can’t get, the Uyghurs suffer and are forced to work.

'We will not enable escalation of conflict that may lead to WW3': Elon Musk slaps down ex-NASA astronaut Scott Kelly after he pleaded with him to ramp up Starlink over Ukraine
Posted by: Skidmark || 02/13/2023 05:37 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  AFAIK, Starlink already geofences their service with service unavailable in Russia. Perhaps Musk want to tighten the geofence closer to Ukrainian controlled territory. Would prevent Starlink from being used for long range UAV attacks such as the boat attack on Sevastopol naval base ot the Kerch bridge.
