-Great Cultural Revolution
Dumb Idea of the Year So Far
[HotAir] California’s largest electric utility PG&E wants to suck the batteries of electric-vehicle owners plugged into charging stations to stabilize the grid during unstable periods. The Ford F-150 already allows for bidirectional charging, but that was sold as a benefit to the owner as a kind of independent generator for households during blackouts. PG&E wants to use it to commandeer all EV batteries and use their power to prevent grid collapse.

It’s been said before, California’s power grid will have to expand in order to meet the demand for more energy. PG&E’s CEO Patricia Poppe has come up with an "unconventional" idea, using electric cars to send excess power back to the grid to prevent blackouts.

Lawmakers in Sacramento are helping to move things along. For example, Senate Bill 233 would make bi-directional charging mandatory for all new electric vehicles.

Now the question is how quickly can that electrical connection be up and running in any ordinary home to make vehicle-to-grid a reality.

#1  Let the automobile battery owners set the price for running down their batteries. Bidding begins at $10 for 10kWh.

#2  Requires switching off parts of South Africa's electric grid in a planned and controlled manner due to insufficient capacity or to avoid a countrywide blackout. The higher the stage, the more electricity needs to be saved and the longer the blackouts last for.

I'll take South Afrikan 'Load Shedding' for $600. Alex.

#4  Those guys really haven't been paying any attention. It's not the dumb idea of the year, some grandiose revelation after a heated, vegan brain storming session.

It's been an essential part of the plan all along, they're only just letting this cat out of the bag now, and vewwy quietwy too.

#5  ^ Correct. Industry/pols have been working on this for quite a while. It's a great scam: force you in to EVs, then FORCE you to feed the grid.

#6  What's the penalty for not plugging into the grid?
(Like, charging your vehicle off of a generator. Cause you know that's where this is headed.)

#7  It is a stupid idea proposed by stupid people. Peak usage is during the day, so all the battery draining would have to take place at the workplace where there are no chargers. If they were installed, no one would be able to leave work at the end of the day.

There is also energy loss with each power transfer. Programming in a game of energy ping pong is pure silliness. All these problems with electrical vehicles were predictable. We know this because the problems were all predicted: the catching on fire, slow charging, drain on an insufficient existing grid etc.. All of this was predicted. Nor is the discovery that the dumb people had another hidden dumb idea really surprising. Dumb is what they are best at. Why not double down on dumb?

Sooner or later, someone will propose having really huge batteries located by generation units to be charged during off peak hours to feed the grid during when needed. Someone else will then point out what a colossal environmental danger that unit would pose. That is a step away from realizing that the summation of the batteries of all these EVs are worse than that huge battery unit. At that point we can have an adult national conversation about nuke power.

#8  There are non-battery ways to store energy. They also are not particularly efficient. One method involves reservoirs at differing elevations. Needless to say, reservoirs rules that method out for Cali.

#10  I want to see how the electric companies are going to retrofit legacy electrical nets to handle the local loads of this All Electric Future™! Electric heating, cooling, and charging stations for all citizens -OR- rolling blackouts and 'energy curfews' that never seem to apply to the zip codes where the nomenklatura live. I know which future my bet is on.

Britain
Did English police arrest a terrified autistic girl for saying a policewoman looked lesbian?
[American Thinker] As a college student, I spent a wonderful year in Leeds, England, a rugged British town in Yorkshire. Unlike England’s south, which had an international feel, Leeds felt untouched by that trend. Now, though, Leeds has a distinctly Soviet or Maoist feel. Or, in homage to one of England’s greatest writers, an Orwellian feel. At least, that’s the takeaway from a horrific video that shows a terrified autistic girl being arrested by seven officers. Her crime: Saying that a butch-looking female police officer reminded the girl of her lesbian grandmother.

You’ll need a bit of historic and legal context to understand what’s happening in the video: It was England that gave our Founders the idea that free speech is essential for a free nation. The English Bill of Rights, which Parliament enacted in 1689, held that "it is the right of subjects to petition the King, and all commitments and prosecutions for such petitioning are illegal." There’s the genesis for our First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech..."

However, the same Revolution that gave Americans a much broader speech right than existed in Britain actually destroyed free speech in the mother country. That’s because, when the colonists began to speak freely against the draconian laws that Parliament imposed on them, Parliament announced that the Bill of Rights of 1689 did not apply to it; it applied only to the king. That meant that there were no limitations on Parliament’s ability to attack speech.

Despite Parliament’s 18th-century renunciation of free speech, the tradition nevertheless persisted in England for a long time, right until leftists really got their talons into the British government. Now, England has "hate speech laws" that make it a criminal offense to engage in speech that the government dislikes.

In 1986, England made it a felony, punishable by up to seven years in prison, to make negative remarks about race that were intended to or likely would stir up racial hatred.

In 2006, England made it a felony to do anything that could be perceived as "stir[ring] up religious hatred." The law was a muddy mess that tried to allow members of one faith to attack another faith’s doctrine and to say one disliked that faith, as well as to advocate for one's own faith. The real kicker to that law, though, came in 2008, when the act was amended to make it illegal to incite hatred on the ground of sexual orientation. In 2013, another act silenced any criticism of same-sex marriage.

Who Will Say No More to the Current Madness?
[AMGREATNESS] The Biden administration has utterly destroyed the southern border—and immigration law with it.

Biden green lighted 7 million illegal aliens swarming into the U.S. without legal sanction or rudimentary audit.

China spies inside and over the U.S. with impunity. Beijing has never admitted to its responsibility for the gain-of-function Covid virus that killed a million Americans.

President Biden printed $4 trillion at exactly the wrong time of soaring post-COVID consumer demand and supply shortages. No wonder he birthed the worst inflation in 40 years.

In response, interest rates tripled, gas prices doubled.

Our military is thousands of recruits short. It lacks sufficient munitions.

Following Biden’s humiliating pullout from Afghanistan, vast troves of arms were abandoned in Kabul. Billions more in scarce weapons were sent to Ukraine.

The Pentagon’s woke agenda trumps meritocracy in promotions and advancement.

Our enemies—Russia, China, Iran, North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
—are on the move, while the U.S. seems listless.

The Biden renegade Department of Justice, CIA and FBI have become weaponized. Ideology, politics, and race—not the law—more often guide their investigations, intelligence operations and enforcement.

The downtowns of our once majestic major cities are becoming unlivable.

They are mired in refuse and trash, violent mostly peaceful crime and homelessness. Stores and businesses leave. Millions each year flee the blue urban coasts to the red west and south.

To even say there are still two biological genders, that global warming may not be entirely manmade or necessarily destroying the planet, or that class, not race, is the proper barometer of inequality is to face ostracism and career cancellation.

The public assumes that President Biden is severely cognitively challenged, likely corrupt, and a serial fabricator.

Most know what must be done, but few will tell the truth: Balance the budget. Return to legal only immigration. Restore a well-funded, but unwoke Pentagon.

Insist on racial unity. Curb the overweening administrative state. Enforce the rule of law.

Produce more gas and oil. Reestablish civic education. Insist universities protect free speech and due process—and stop proselytizing.

In other words, restore what until recently made America the strongest, most prosperous, and freest nation in the world. And quit undoing all the great good that eight generations of prior Americans bequeathed to us.

Somewhere out there an American Leo Amery is growing infuriated over what is being done to America.

And if he finally stands up like Amery to call out our bankrupt political class, the American people will echo his famous order to this disastrous government:

"Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go."

Internally, making E verify across the board will get the turnstiles going in the reverse direction. There will be additional ideas that will help things along like mandating the maximum sentence for any federal felony for any perp in the country illegally might help. Things could be headed in the right direction within a year or two. There will have to be consistent pressure for the people on GOP politicians to make this happen. Science & Technology
Renowned climate scientist who once warned about global warming now says alarmists push crisis for 'fame and fortune'
[BLAZE] A renowned climate scientist has proclaimed that the consensus regarding climate change among the scientific community is "manufactured." The climatologist declared that climate crisis alarmists push an extreme narrative for "fame and fortune."

Dr. Judith Curry is the president of the Climate Forecast Applications Network. She served on the NASA Advisory Council Earth Science Subcommittee, was part of the NOAA Climate Working Group, and was a fellow of the American Meteorological Society. Curry was the former chair of Georgia Tech’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and held faculty positions at the University of Colorado, Penn State University, and Purdue University. Curry has authored more than 180 scientific papers. She has received scientific funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Science Foundation, and the Department of Energy.

Curry became a media darling after she published a paper in 2005 that claimed there was a relation between the increased intensity of hurricanes and global warming. The research claimed that Category 4 and 5 hurricanes had doubled and attributed this trend to climate change.

#1  Curry became skeptical of climate change alarmism after the Climategate scandal erupted in 2009. She later admitted that her critics had a point and confessed that her research had some "bad data" and that "natural climate variability" was a factor.
Posted by: Bobby || 08/12/2023 7:49 Comments || Top||

#2  There has been NO increased intensity of hurricanes, so looking for any causation becomes, uh, moot.

From 1915 to 1965 hurricanes were more numerous and powerful than they have been from 1965 to 2015. For all but those incapacitated by e/video ennui it is ridiculously easy to look up.

Now, since our betters there on the Big Rock Candy Mountain on the Potomac decided it was a wise and far seeing policy to insure virtually anything built in any proximity to the ocean costs from hurricane damage have sky rocketed.

Posted by: Cesare || 08/12/2023 8:01 Comments || Top||

#3  the consensus regarding climate change among the scientific community is "manufactured".

And when we say manufactured, we mean the biggest scientific hoax since the Piltdown Man. Which is a pity since figuring out how planetary climate works is a fascinating problem. Hint: it has f**kall to do with carbon dioxide.

The West is moving from cultural wars to religious ones
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Dmitry Kosyrev

[RIA] Among the Nobel laureates there are extremely smart people. Right now, the American Paul Krugman (Economics Prize, 2008),
...generally completely wrong, but never unsure...
in one simple phrase, put in the headline of a comment in The New York Times , explained to us what we had seen so long ago, but for some reason we could not clearly and simply formulate. Namely: "The climate has become the subject of a culture war." Let's add - global.

He could even say "wars of religion". Culture and religion are closely intertwined, and the high emotions they evoke are based not on facts, but on feelings. Feelings are a complex and herd thing. This is an area where disputes will always go on as long as humanity is alive, but wars ... Wars - cultural and religious - begin when one group of people considers it necessary to impose their beliefs on other groups by force. And this, of course, is always a misfortune and a crime.

Krugman himself leaves no doubt as to which side he is on in this war.
There’s that generally wrong thing, again.
He repeats the entire set of the obligatory propagandist of the idea that human activity heats up the atmosphere of the planet, and in order to avoid this terrible crisis, it is necessary to force humanity to live not as they want, but as smart people tell them to. That is, stop using oil and gas, eat meat, and so on down the list.

And in the end, the laureate designates the main "creed" of the team: there is a science that has said its word about the climate once and for all, and there are illiterate deniers of science who simply hate it. They have such a culture. The point is not that they are paid (oil and gas and other companies that produce something), but simply the Republicans are not liberals. If they come to power, they will curtail the entire climate program of the current administration. And this is at a time when it is so hot outside: the hottest and most humid summer on record!

The rest are details, but valuable. And not from Krugman, but from those very bad people. In fact, they just honor real science and hate corrupt science, used in the form of a cudgel. And here's the answer to the question of why it's so hot. Last January, the Tonga Khanga volcano in the South Pacific erupted with a unique force, and it happened deep under water. Do not believe me - ask the American space agency NASA and its European colleagues (with photographs and other things). The volcano through the water filter of the ocean threw unprecedented volumes of steam into the water and atmosphere. And this whole thing will not calm down soon. There are calculations and estimates by climatologists.

But this does not stop the US administration and other forces promoting and imposing on people new technologies and goods that no one would take for free without the climate horror story. Along the way, people are made poor and modest, at the same time they are trying to crush the rapid growth of the economies of the non-Western world by imposing on it that very false climate agenda. What happens to unfortunate Germany and other Europe bent like a ram's horn because of this is well known. And in the United States itself, there are many more interesting things.

Republicans and other people of a "different culture" created the "Project 2025", which, according to Krugman, if they come to power, will block all climate ideas of the Democrats. And they still wouldn't do it. Here is just one of the ratings.scientists from this project - about the initiative of the Biden team to force the auto industry to produce at least 70 percent of its cars by 2032 electric. What will happen then? First, automakers will go bankrupt because these cars are more expensive and people don't want to buy them. Second, motorists will drive conventional petrol and diesel cars for longer, which will lead to wear and tear of equipment and accidents with a bad outcome. And third, even if the Bidenites fully fulfill all their plans, this will lead - perhaps - to a decrease in temperature on our beloved planet by 0.2 degrees Celsius. And only by 2100.

And also about cultural, if not religious climate wars. When you have a normal discussion, confident in your rightness and victory, you do it with respect to your opponent. But climate (and not only climate) activists now consider it their duty to be aggressive and terrorize people to the maximum, notes a publicist from American Thinker. They block traffic, disrupt festivals and sporting events, break into theaters. Well, of course - in war as in war.

How the non-Western, that is, relatively normal world, reacts to all this is a separate conversation. The scheme here is as follows: Westerners impose their climate agenda on all conceivable international forums and receive a polite (so far) rebuff. For example, in the course of preparations for the next G20 summit in India , the "agenda " was blocked by Beijing (and not it alone). But the main events on this international climate front are yet to come.
