[Police1] SILER CITY, N.C. — A motorist had a gun in his hand as he stepped out of a pickup truck during a traffic stop for not wearing a seat belt and was fatally shot by a North Carolina state trooper, a video released Tuesday by the State Highway Patrol showed.
Trooper Rodney Cook, a 16-year veteran of the patrol, shot and killed Mark Anthony Diaz, 21, of Staley, on May 30. The video was released after a judge signed a petition filed at the request of the patrol.
"Sarge, he pulled a gun on me," Cook said to a supervisor who arrived moments after the shooting. "Freaking seat belt violation." Shortly after that comment, the sound on the video is muted. Diaz didn’t fire a shot before he was hit, the video showed.
Cook has been placed on routine administrative duty during an internal investigation, the Highway Patrol said last week.

Be interesting to see what could be seen at the point the cop decided on his U-turn.
There in the vid, it looks as if the other lane could not be seen.
Closest would be the two inside lanes--opposing traffic--across the median. At what closing speed?
Have to be something obvious to spook the cop.
And to exit the car with a pistoln?

[Police1] KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee police recruit has died after collapsing during a training exercise, 10 News reported.
Officer Wisbens Antoine, 32, was a member of the Knoxville Police Department’s 2023 B Basic Recruit Class, scheduled to graduate March 5, according to the report. Antoine collapsed after completing a 1.5-mile run on Feb. 23. Details on what led to the collapse have not been released.
Antoine was taken to a hospital in critical condition where a judge and the Knoxville Police Department command staff made him an officer, according to the report.
"I picked up the phone in the middle of the night, called Judge Caviness... and with the blessing of his wife, with our entire command staff, the mayor, the training academy staff, every one of his classmates and untold members of the department gathered in his room... we swore him in as a Knoxville Police officer," Chief Paul Noel said.
One of Antoine’s fellow recruits and classmates swore the oath on his behalf, and a badge was placed over his heart, according to the report. He was honored with a police procession after he died on Feb. 25.
Antoine is survived by his wife and two children, according to the report.
[WIRE] The United States Air Force Academy showcased a transgender-identifying activist and military service member who seeks to embed far-left gender ideology in the armed forces for a speech on leadership and inclusion.
Lieutenant Colonel Bree Fram, an engineer with the United States Space Force and activist for transgenderism in the military,
“Ya got problems with women with penises, bub? I’ll fix your problems with my very feminine fist!”
spoke at the National Character and Leadership Symposium, the theme of which was "Embrace Culture, Empower People." The military official states that he is a co-leader of the Department of the Air Force LGBTQ+ Initiatives Team, which he says is "dedicated to eliminating barriers to LGBTQ+ military service in the Air and Space Force."
Fram was introduced at the Air Force Academy event as "one of the highest-ranking out transgender officers in the United States military" and a "featured speaker on leadership, diversity, and inclusion." He is also an activist on behalf of transgenderism, previously serving as the president of SPARTA, "a non-profit that advocates and educates about transgender military service."

Wait…Lemme make sure I get my pronouns straight - pun intended. Wonder how this “thing” would get long with the other AF - then Army Air Corps - guys portrayed in “Masters of the Air”on Apple TV?
A great show on WWII pilots flying B17s over Europe. Same producers (Hanks, Spielberg) that did “Band of Brothers”.

I know we'll almost certainly get cheated (again) out of a 2nd Trump term, but I would hope a near total purge of the military's top command would be towards the top of his to-do list. Everyone associated with awarding such nonsense should be severely punished.

We have gone from quiet tolerance to overt advocacy in a generation. Rooting out this cancer is going to be devastating to readiness and national defense, and the Chinese know it and are counting on it.

Local forecaster suggested up to 6 feet of "Sierra Cement" by the end of the weekend at higher elevations. Tahoe ski resort reported Thursday:"A large swath of California’s Sierra Nevada fell under a blizzard warning Thursday morning, as powerful winds ripped through the mountain range. The National Weather Service said a 120 mph gust was clocked on Ward Mountain at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort, which had closed several lifts for the day."
[FoxNews] A weak area of low pressure swinging through the Texas wildfire zones dumped some beneficial snow on Thursday amid freezing temperatures. As of late Thursday morning, the National Weather Service reported 2.5 inches of snow had fallen about 3 miles to the north of Amarillo. It's a welcome relief from the hot, dry and windy conditions that led to the explosive development of several wildfires burning through dry vegetation.

There were a number of fire outbreaks that day, each in its own right large as the wind was steady out of the south at 30mph with consistent gusting. Then a front came through and in the panhandles it was a gradual shift from south to same intensity out of the north, allowing uncontained fires, like Smoke House, to pivot. Smoke House burned 500,000 acres in 24 hours. Several others ranged around 90,000 acres but got contained. Still other smaller local fires forced some evacuations.
With some luck, the wind shift to out of SW will have it eat itself at least enough to pinch the head to something manageable.
Relief convoys were in the works before the sun was up the next day and many were en route before next day noon. Pictures shown are very clean, dramatic melted vehicles and such. What's going on is an ammo shortage IYKWIM.

[NYPost] MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade argued Monday that the United States’ “deep commitment to free speech” makes Americans uniquely susceptible to disinformation campaigns.
That’s backward. As we see on Twitter X, freeing the medium allows the wisdom of the crowd to mark out disinformation.
McQuade, a University of Michigan law professor, went on “The Rachel Maddow Show” to promote her new book, “Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America.” She said her “goal” with the book was to spark a “national conversation about truth and our commitment to it.”
She added, “I hope that by dissecting it, explaining it, and educating the public, we can all see disinformation for what it is so that we can begin to push back against it.”
When asked by host Rachel Maddow whether America is just as susceptible to disinformation as other countries, McQuade argued that it is even more vulnerable. Read the rest at the link
We already have a Common Sense Restrictions.
eg. SCOTUS Ruling: Shouting fire in a crowded theater. Liable and slander laws. Threatening persons or places.
But it seems the biggest violators are LIBERALS & DEMOCRATS. Maybe the laws need to be re-written in 6th grade English for them to understand?

'Speech Restrictions' are not applicable for the Libs and Dems, NN2N1.
You'll have to read the burned-in T&C fine print in these people's heads to understand. It will always be added to any actual laws on the books.

MSNBC legal analyst want sheep not free men to populate the country.
It's the responsibility of freemen in a republic to avail themselves of free speech to determine what to believe or not by their own free will.
She added, “I hope that by dissecting it, explaining it, and educating the public, we can all see disinformation for what it is so that we can begin to push back against it.”

By her assertion is is essentially saying Americans cannot make reasoned judgments about information, and that they should accept edited information from "trusted sources" to protect them from misunderstanding. Can you be any clearer about wanting to trust the power of the state to define truth? Orwell as Nostradamus!

[PJ] But that's not what users saw with our own eyes. What we saw was an undeniable bias that went only one way. All the so-called "anodyne prompts" involved conservatives or Republicans that Gemini was happy to compare to Hitler, a stubborn refusal to make such comparisons about progressives or Democrats, and the near-erasure of white men.

[Hot Air] A pair of Chinese scientists who worked in a Canadian biological laboratory were marched out of the lab in 2019 and fired in 2021. The pair, who are married, claimed they were being targeted because they are Chinese but an investigations by Canada's intelligence agency found they were sharing information with China including at one point with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The Trudeau government has sat on the information related to the case ever since but finally this week some unredacted documents were released.
On Wednesday, the government released hundreds of pages related to the firing of Xiangguo Qiu and her husband Keding Cheng from the national microbiology lab in Winnipeg...
The hundreds of pages of documents include CSIS assessments created after the pair were marched out of the labs. The spy agency recommended the Public Health Agency of Canada revoke the security clearances of both scientists...
"The Service assess that Ms. Qiu developed deep, cooperative relationships with a variety of People’s Republic of China institutions and has intentionally transferred scientific knowledge and materials to China in order to benefit the PRC government," reads a letter from January 2021 recommending her security clearance be revoked.
Qiu is believed to have been another beneficiary of China's Thousand Talents Program which pays scientists at foreign universities to partner with Chinese universities to share their knowledge. When questioned about these connections, Qiu repeatedly lied to investigators.
[NYP] Progressive Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) traveled to Cuba last week — a secret trip that has outraged several Republican lawmakers.
Jayapal, the chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and Omar, the deputy chairwoman, led a delegation of about a dozen people to the communist island, according to the Miami Herald.
A staffer from Rep. Barbara Lee’s (D-Calif.) office was also among those on the trip, according to the outlet, which notes that the travel was not disclosed by the liberal lawmakers beforehand or reported on in Cuban state media.
"Representatives Jayapal and Omar traveled to Cuba last week, where they met with people from across Cuban civil society and government officials to discuss human rights and the U.S.-Cuba bilateral relationship," a spokesperson for the progressive caucus told the Miami Herald.
The mysterious trip, which took place during a week when the House was in recess, also overlapped with a visit to Havana by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who traveled to the island as part of a Latin American tour that included stops in Venezuela and Brazil.

[WMBF News Murder Beach) MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A disturbing trend is being seen not only across the country but right in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.
The ATF said it is seeing an alarming increase in glock switches and other gun conversion kits.
A glock switch is roughly the size of a nickel and attaches to the back of a handgun or rifle. The tiny device can turn a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic machine gun.
Brian Mein, the ATF’s Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Charlotte Field Division, said glock switches can fire up to 30 rounds of ammunition in under two seconds.
He said that speed can make these weapons incredibly inaccurate and dangerous.
"It’s really a recipe for disaster," Mein said. "Even the most experienced shooters that test fire these devices have a hard time staying on target with them."
Mein said from 2017 to 2021, the ATF saw a 510% increase in glock switches across the country.
Here in South Carolina, the ATF seized 63 Glock switches last year.
Mein said he believes that number could be a lot higher because local agencies are not required to report them to the ATF.
In the Grand Strand and Pee Dee, police reports obtained by WMBF News show most glock switches are being recovered inside cars and during traffic stops.

I watched the video from the actual article. Quite amazing to see a handgun have that cyclic rate of fire, and the agent was actually able to minimize muzzle climb during a 20+ round burst.
