NRA's Impressive Record of Defeat
[Ammoland] U.S.A. — The National Rifle Association has received yet another judicial slap-down. Lead counsel Bill Brewer, along with attorneys for Wayne LaPierre, Secretary John Frazer, former Treasurer Woody Phillips, and former executive Josh Powell filed yet another raft of petitions calling for the suit to be dismissed or seriously throttled. In an order issued on June 8, the judge in the case rejected virtually all of these motions and petitions, most of which had already been previously rejected by the court. Not surprisingly, Judge Cohen, who has been very fair and reasonable in his handling of the case, after rejecting the defense motions and affirming several petitions from the plaintiff, NY AG Letitia James, ordered that all parties involved "submit a joint letter proposing a trial plan and schedule so that the Court can reserve the necessary dates" for trial. The ruling is just one more in a long line of defeats for the NRA, with Brewer at the helm of its legal strategy.

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past four years — as is apparently the case with many NRA members and the entire NRA Board of Directors — the Attorney General of New York filed charges against the Association and several of its top executives in August of 2020 after the publication of a damning investigative report in April of 2019. The New York AG charged Association’s paid staff and elected officers with diverting charitable funds away from their intended purposes and into the pockets of NRA brass and their pals.

There is no question that the New York Attorney General is an ambitious, partisan politician who campaigned on a promise to destroy the NRA, and it is undeniable that her pursuit of the Association is very much politically motivated. In their talking points, the NRA "leadership" restates that accurate analysis, and goes on to dismiss everything raised in the suit as just a politically-motivated attack with no substance. The trouble is that dismissal is a lie. There is a great deal of substance to the suits.

When James’ investigators started looking into the organization, they found a seething den of corruption. In short, virtually all of the charges brought by the NY AG are backed up by documentary evidence and appalling levels of self-incrimination on the part of NRA "leaders."

The sad truth is that NRA executives and their cronies have been blatantly pocketing tens of millions of dollars from the NRA for years. Meanwhile, the NRA Board of Directors, who hold a fiduciary responsibility to the members of the Association, have willfully looked away, abdicating their responsibilities, instead standing resolutely behind Wayne LaPierre and his fellow miscreants.

San Francisco: Naked Woman Shoots Gun at Cars (Video)
[Gateway] A naked woman was arrested after firing a gun at cars in traffic at the Bay Bridge in San Francisco Tuesday afternoon. No one was reported injured in the incident. The woman reportedly first exited her car in traffic brandishing a knife. She then drove down the road and stopped again, this time exiting the car after stripping off her clothes and wandered the traffic lanes firing a handgun.

Gosh, How Could That Have Happened? Seattle is struggling with organized retail theft and there aren't enough police to deal with it.
[HotAir] BLUF: So to sum this up, organized gangs have moved in to the business of retail theft and, thanks to BLM activists and progressive city council members who wanted desperately to defund the police back in 2020, the city can’t begin to get a handle on this crime. The people who see it up close know this is hurting them but the city’s plans probably won’t accomplish much given that there are only so many ways to rearrange police resources when they are badly short-staffed. On top of all of that, you still have progressives who are desperate to defend the progressive prosecutors and progressive judges who helped create this problem.
Yesterday we learnt that Mexican drug cartels are involved in the national shoplifting spree, now we learn how it is organized locally.

#3  Even in a Soros model city you need to have enough police to catch the criminals so that the DA can downgrade the charges to keep the crime statistics where they need to be. If you leave yourself only enough police to fill out police reports, your statistics never get laundered.

White Hispanic shoots up Daytona Beach nightclub
[FOX35] A woman accused of shooting four people outside a Daytona Beach nightclub Saturday night faced a judge — and news cameras — Tuesday afternoon.

Karla Bermudez, 29, is facing four counts of attempted murder for what transpired in the parking lot outside Razzle's Nightclub.

"Upon being taken into custody on [Monday], she made an initial unsolicited claim of self-defense," Daytona Beach Police Chief Yakari Young said.

Bermudez's friends and family told FOX 35 over the phone she was trying to defend herself from a group of men and women beating her up.

Cell phone video captured portions of the fight, including the two gunshots police say she fired that injured four people. All four are expected to make a full recovery.

But Young disagrees her actions were in self-defense.

"Based on what we observed on the surveillance video, I don't think her self-defense claim will hold up," he said at a press conference.

Detectives arrested Bermudez on Monday afternoon, nearly two days after the shooting.

Police say she ran from the scene and was spotted on surveillance video just down the street from Razzle's near what’s soon to be the department’s newest substation.

"She literally would have walked directly towards that police substation," Young said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Yet another.....Cargo ship carrying nearly 3,000 cars catches fire, leaves one dead
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[Autoblog] A large cargo ship carrying nearly 3,000 vehicles caught fire last night off the Dutch coast, killing one crew member and injuring several others. The vessel, named Fremantle Highway, was fully evacuated via other boats and helicopters, but as of now, the Dutch Coast Guard is saying that the fire is still ablaze as emergency workers attempt to put it out.

Reuters reports that about 350 of the vehicles onboard the ship are Mercedes-Benz products. However, it’s still not confirmed what the rest of the vehicles are. Reports say that of the approximately 3,000 vehicles, 25 of them are electric.

The cause of the fire is unclear for now, as various official statements and media reports conflict with each other. The Coast Guard’s official live blog for the incident states "the cause of the fire is still unknown." Meanwhile, Reuters is reporting that a Coast Guard spokesperson told the publication that the fire "began near an electric car." To add even more confusion to the story, Sky is reporting that a coastguard spokesperson said, "an electric car was the suspected source of the blaze."

We’ve contacted the Dutch Coast Guard to try and get some answers of our own and will update this post with any additional information.

Sorry, incorrect graphic.

Heroic FedEx driver rescues man trapped in burning vehicle on side of California highway moments before car explodes into flames
[MAIL] A FedEx driver pulled a man from a burning vehicle on a Southern California highway early Wednesday morning after noticing the car smoking on the side of the road.

The incredible rescue happened on Interstate 15 just before 3am when the driver of a Toyota Camry slammed into a guardrail and the car caught on fire.

A passing FedEx driver noticed the smoke and pulled over to help the driver and any other passengers just before a series of additional explosions from the car.

ABC 10 San Diego caught the moment the FedEx worker pulled the man from the vehicle just seconds before the explosions added flames to the blaze.

'As soon as I saw the car, it was still actively on fire. You gotta stop to see if you can do anything at all,' the driver told the outlet.

Coup attempted in Niger
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] A coup attempt took place in Niger, where President Mohamed Bazum was detained by his own guards after unsuccessful negotiations, La Croix reported on July 26.
Pronounced "Knee-Jer", I learned from Joe "Yellowcake" Wilson and Valerie Plame
The President's Office said that individual guards started a mutiny, trying in vain to enlist the support of the National Armed Forces and the National Guard.

At the same time, a number of media outlets noted that the guard is headed by General Omar Tchiani, who was in office under the previous president of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou. The new head of state left the general in office after coming to power. Some sources noted that in recent days, Bazum has been considering firing the general.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemned the coup attempt in Niger and called for the immediate release of the elected president. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, also condemned any attempt to destabilize democracy and threaten the stability of Niger.

There have been four coups d'état in Niger since independence in 1960: the first in April 1974 against President Diori Hamani , the last in February 2010. Then President Mamadou Tanju was overthrown . At the end of March 2021, the government announced the arrest of several people following an alleged coup attempt. Two days before, President Mohamed Bazum took the oath.

More than 30 killed in prison clashes in Ecuador
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] At least 31 people have been victims of clashes in a prison in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, Ecuador's prosecutor general's office said in a microblog.

Another 14 people were injured. The situation in the institution is now under control. Because of the incident, the department opened two criminal cases, one of which concerns an article on terrorism.

Riots broke out in several prisons in Ecuador on 23 July. In five institutions, prisoners took hostage about 90 correctional officers.

As IA Regnum reported, in early April, in the province of Guyas in Ecuador, a shootout took place in a prison between the gangs R7 and Los Lobos. As a result of the incident, three people died and another was injured.

On July 23, in the Ecuadorian city of Manta, the mayor of this locality, Agustin Intriago, was killed. Four more people were also injured, two of whom participated in the attack on the official.

Russia Seeks To Work With Africa To Weaken Dollar As Putin Hosts Summit
[ZERO] Talk of de-dollarization has long been in the air, particularly in the lead-up to BRICS nations gathering in South Africa in August, with the question high on the agenda.

Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Wednesday issued a direct, provocative challenge to Washington and its dollar dominance, asserting that Moscow will work with African leaders to weaken the US dollar.

Zakharova, per remarks cited in RIA Novosti, denounced the United States' using it as a tool for global hegemony, and as "a means of realizing its aggression." The foreign ministry comments came just ahead of the high-level summit of African leaders set to be held in St. Petersburg at the end of this week.

Cambodia Ruler Set To Retire After Almost Four Decades, Hand Over To His Son To Succeed Him
[SAHARAREPORTERS] Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen, one of the world's longest-serving leaders, is set to retire after nearly four decades in the power.

According to BBC, Hun Sen, 70, said he is leaving his West Point-educated son Hun Manet to form a new government after the ruling party claimed a landslide election victory over the weekend.

Hun Sen while speaking during a televised address on Wednesday, said the situation in Cambodia would become unstable if he continued to stay in office and it’s "very necessary for a new cabinet of all young people" to assume control.

"The party has appointed the candidate as the PM and now he will become the Prime Minister in the coming weeks," he said of his eldest son.

Hun Manet, 45, is a political novice who contested in elections for the first time following a career in the armed forces in which he rose through the ranks to become a four-star general.

He was among the children of the ruling elite serving in positions of power as the government transitions from the old guard to the new generation for the first time since a rebellion against the Khmer Rouge in 1979.

Preliminary results show the Cambodian People’s Party nearly swept the vote on Sunday, winning 120 of 125 seats up for grabs in the National Assembly, after the main opposition was barred from participating for a second time.

The vote was criticized by some western nations, and triggered the U.S. to impose visa restrictions on individuals "who undermined democracy and implemented a pause of certain foreign assistance programs."

He first flagged a transition in 2021, but up to now no one knew exactly when it would take place.

His eldest son, Hun Manet, until recently the commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, has long been groomed for the role.

In his announcement, Hun Sen said his son would be appointed prime minister on 10 August.

"I would like to ask for understanding from the people as I announce that I will not continue as prime minister," he said in a special broadcast on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
