South Carolina mall shooting suspect's bond set at $25,000, can go to work with ankle monitor
Follow up this story from yesterday.
[FoxNews] Jewayne Price was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol

A South Carolina judge set a $25,000 bond for a suspect in a mall shooting on Saturday that left 14 people injured, according to the Columbia Police Department.
So, name the judge, the prosecutor, and their respective political parties
Jewayne Price, 22, will be on house arrest but allowed to travel to and from work while wearing an ankle monitor if he posts bond.

He was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol and could face additional charges after the prosecutor reviews evidence.

Price is one of three people who were detained by law enforcement following the shooting. The other two adults males were released after police determined they weren't involved.

"We don’t believe this was random," Columbia Police Chief W.H. "Skip" Holbrook said at a news conference. "We believe they knew each other and something led to the gunfire."

Evidence collected at the scene indicates at least three people displayed guns and two firearms were used, according to police.

Price was previously arrested in June 2018 and charged with accessory before the fact following the shooting death of 17-year-old Amon Rice in Hopkins, South Carolina. The outcome of that is unclear.

"We catch people, they serve a little bit of time, they get out and they get right back doing what they normally do and that’s commit crimes," Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said at a recent press conference. "The criminal justice system needs to do better."

Price's attorney, South Carolina state Rep. Todd Rutherford, claims that his client acted in self-defense.

"It was unprovoked by him. He called the police, turned himself in, turned over the firearm that was used in this, and gave a statement to the Columbia Police Department," Rutherford said after the bond hearing, according to WIS. "That is why he got a $25,000 bond."

The 14 victims range in age from 15 to 73. At least nine of them suffered gunshot wounds, while the other five were injured while trying to flee the chaos.

The 73-year-old victim is still being treated at a local hospital, while the other 13 victims have been released.

#3  "We catch people, they serve a little bit of time, they get out and they get right back doing what they normally do and that’s commit crimes,"

Crime seems to be one of those things with a Pareto distribution - roughly speaking, 20% of the criminals commit 80% of the crime. Yes, locking someone up in prison is mean, but it does take them out of circulation for a while.

But I should also state I am NOT suggesting Vigilante justice.

As ALL persons are innocent until convicted.
But 14 counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon should get him at least 20 years. Which the taxpayers will cover his room, feeding, dental, clothing, TV, medical, education and etc.. Likely costing SC Taxpayers $750K to $1.2 Million over that period.

America is the better part of a continent, and the population is not homogenous throughout. Some areas/communities/neighbourhoods choose to be less orderly and prosperous than others. But we see that elsewhere, too: there are so-called No Go areas throughout the EU and Britain, where the residents hew to a different culture, and firemen, for instance, can only go in with an armed police escort. The French suburbs, Molenbeek in Brussels, Malmo in Sweden... the list is long.

#7  /\ We are instructed to celebrate the diversity of those who have strayed from their assigned pens, but deny certain DNA and genetic realities related to former pen survival.

Although highly advertised and applauded by academia and media, cultural assimilation through cross-breeding has met with limited success, as has the legalization of mind altering drugs. One of the more recent solutions of government and science appears to be Genetically modification, or treating humans as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) such as plants.

We appear to have deviated from the intent of nature. Will the Muruwari people of New South Wales become the new diamond cutters of Antwerp? Will flooding the troubled, crime ridden urban zones with millions of more compliant migrants be the answer? Can assimilation and human harmony be achieved through artificially produced 'Gain of Function?'

Yesterday's celebration is very likely the intended solution, but we are in denial there as well. I am not hopeful. I reckon we'll just have to see how it goes.

#9  Ain't it funny. Here's a tribe that feels maximum force is the appropriate response to the mildest slight, down to an imaginary one. But, OTOH, they don't feel any po-lice should ever stop them from driving erratically in a stolen car, put a hand on them during an arrest, etc.

Swillary says "it takes a village." Well, many of these were raised much more by a village than by their single parent, and here's what the village raised up.

#13  Since the start of Obama 3.0 (the current Puppet Show) there has been an endless effort to appease in financial, social and media terms the sense of victim-hood among minorities. Creating class/racial divides and defining mainstream societal structure and norms as "white supremacist", they create the perception in ignorant minds of permission and justification. Until we abandon terms like African-American and People of Color and just describe all of us as American, this continues. America is hugely successful because of the genius of our founders and the wealth of what they created. It is our heritage and beliefs that are superior to other systems in the history of the world, not because they are "white" but because they are inspired by an understanding of fundamental human character and freedom.

The massive inundation of our nation, abetted by one political party as a means to power, has swamped our ability to assimilate and educate those who come here to the heritage, expectations and obligations they receive. Coming here illegally abrogates all of that, sadly by design of those holding the doors open.

Divide and conquer has been a known tactic for millennia, and serves an enemy well. The cabal running the White House has allegiances, motives and objectives that serve those elsewhere....

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: April 18th, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 08:40 Kiev metro from April 18 will carry passengers from 06:30 to 20:00, ground transport - from 07:00 to 21:00, the Kyiv City State Administration reported.

08:36 The police of the Kiev region, while cleaning up the territories liberated from Russian invaders, found secret documents of the special forces of SOBR, OMON and the National Guard, among which was a detailed plan for the capture of Kiev.

Andrey Nebitov, head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kiev region, said that the police also found chemical protection suits - apparently, the Russian military believed in the Kremlin's fakes about biological laboratories. According to Nebitov, the costumes were packed in World War II pouches, and the overalls consisted of "fishing boots" and a raincoat "from museums."

08:29 In the morning, the invaders launched missile attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region, 60% of the missiles were shot down by Ukrainian air defense, the head of the OVA, Valentin Reznichenko, said.

08:05 The Russians fired at the building of the patrol police in Lisichansk, as a result, six employees were hospitalized, said the head of the Luhansk OVA Sergei Gaidai.

He also said that the occupiers hit the recently rebuilt Olimp sports complex in Kremennaya, where representatives of the Ukrainian Olympic team used to train. The fire area is 2400 sq. m. Rescuers are trying to localize the flame, near the forest.

Artillery shelling of Kremennaya continued on April 17 and became more frequent and powerful at night. Seven residential buildings, outbuildings, and forest litter caught fire. Residential areas in Rubizhne were also damaged - seven local residents were evacuated from the rubble of three houses, two injured were taken to the hospital.

07:44 More than 140 cases are being investigated in Germany to approve Russia's war against Ukraine - most of the open cases involve the use of the letter Z, DW reports, citing the Redaktionsnetzwerks Deutschland group of publications.

07:13 The General Staff expects that the enemy will continue to conduct hostilities to reach the administrative borders of the Kherson region. In total, 87 enemy BTGs were involved in the groupings to carry out combat missions on the territory of Ukraine.

07:11 In the East, the enemy is restoring combat capability and replenishing supplies. He is trying to improve the tactical position of his units and intensify the fighting. Russian occupiers continue shelling N. p. Seversk and Pokrovskoye, according to the General Staff.

The main efforts of the enemy were concentrated in the areas of the settlement. Liman, Kremennaya, Popasnaya and Rubizhne, tried to establish full control over Mariupol. He carried out offensive operations in the Severodonetsk, Popasnyansky and Zaporozhye directions.

Also, the Russians unsuccessfully tried to gain a foothold in the areas of the settlement. Kremennaya and Rubezhnoye. They tried to storm in the areas of the settlement. Novotoshkovskoe, Popasnaya, Avdeevka and Maryinka. There was also no success.

07:06 In order to expand the bridgehead on the left bank of the Seversky Donets River and create conditions for the operational deployment of troops, the Russians conducted reconnaissance in combat in the areas of the settlement. Factories, Dmitrovka and Dibrovnoe. They had no luck, they suffered losses and retreated, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

06:50 OSINTtechnical researchers released the first photos of the cruiser Moskva after the shell hit. The author of the public admits that he cannot confirm the authenticity, "but this is a Glory-class cruiser, and I do not think that any of them were destroyed in this way."

06:17 Civilians, including women and children, are hiding on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. People are hiding from shelling in the plant's storage facilities, they have no medicine, food or water, said Mikhail Vershinin, head of the city's patrol police.

06:01 At night, the Russians fired at the outskirts of the Krivoy Rog district from the territory of the Kherson region, one person died, said the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council Nikolai Lukashuk.

03:44 The Armed Forces of Ukraine dealt another blow to the invaders in Chernobaevka, Arestovich said.

02:40 Arestovich said that Medvedchuk was already giving evidence to law enforcement officers. In addition to him, people who were detained together with Medvedchuk began to be interrogated. When asked about the possibility of exchanging Medvedchuk, Arestovich replied that he "hadn't told everything yet."

02:12 Ukrzaliznytsia said that to cross the border with the EU countries, you must have a passport. Exceptions are possible at the discretion of the border guards in the presence of other identification documents and the presence of hostilities in the region from which the passenger left.

UZ reported that it had not received warnings from the State Border Service about changes in the rules for crossing the border by citizens of Ukraine and expected "more clear explanations from colleagues to prevent refugees without international passports."

I don't think that's Moskva in the twitter video, at least not all the way through. If you freeze-frame it at the 0:13 mark, that's a former USN DDG (missile destroyer) on the wrong end of a SINKEX. If you look from left to right where the water is coming up the deck, you see an armored box launcher for USN's ASROC anti-sub missile, and aft of the deckouse is unmistakably a USN Mk42 'frog eye' 5" gun turret.

Day 53 impending still not started Battle of Donbas
Militaryland. More at the link

Russia has material in place but has not organized battalions into attack configuration.

Ukraine has made some small advances near Kharkiv. If the Russian occupation north of Donbas collapses, it would threaten the logistics of future Russian efforts.

Russia has only a few dozen city blocks from completing the conquest of Mariupol (which they surrounded on 2 March and in which they have a lot of troops working and a lot of troops dying).

Russia will claim the conquest of Mariupol as a victory but it will likely go down as a hollow victory for Russia and a symbol of Russian brutality.

#2  Mariupol may have chewed up some valuable Russian infantry but it (1) cleared the land route to Sevastapol, and (2) frees up the rear of any subsequent northern push in the Donbas.

I am expecting a Pincer Attack on the Donbas Salient with the supporting attack coming from the south at Donetsk (troops that were fighting at Mariupol) and a strong northern thrust from Izium (troops that were concentrated from the abortive Kiev attacks). Mostly the Russians waiting for the ground to get better and concentrating things for a good, old fashioned "stop us if you can" WW2 Soviet armor and artillery thrust from Izium. It has taken them, so far, from Day 33 to rearrange their troops and get their logistical house in order -- one central push at a time may be all they can efficiently supply.

#5  "a hollow victory" - LOL

The #1 stated objective of the war was to prevent NATO from using Ukraine as a bulwark ("demilitarize"). The completion of the land bridge to Crimea has extinguished that possibility.

The #2 objective was to destroy the Azov Battalion and other neonazis regiments that had terrified the Russian-speaking Donbas for 8 years. That too is about to be completed in Mariupol.

The third (unstated) objective has been to devastate Ukraine and make it even poorer than it was before the war -- to reduce it to subsistence status so that it will be dependent on foreign aid for another 30-40 years. In process.

Dozens of people died in the hospital of Mariupol, Russia claims almost full control of city
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] Representatives of the Donetsk People's Republic in the JCCC and employees of the investigative committee of the Russian Federation visited the hospital in Mariupol at the forefront, where several dozen civilians were killed, Major General Ruslan Yakubov, head of the DPR representative office in the JCCC, told RIA Novosti.

"The JCCC , together with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, is recording the crimes of the Ukrainian regime against civilians. We are located near the city hospital number four of the city of Mariupol . At the moment, we have already recorded more than twenty corpses, there may be more - work continues," he said.

According to him, the main task now is to collect as much evidence as possible in order to then conduct an investigation.

The representative office clarified that they are directly cooperating with the Military Prosecutor's Office and the Investigative Committee of Donbass , in particular, joint "field" work of military experts of the JCCC and investigators of the TFR has been organized.

Russia shot down two Ukrainian MiG-29s over the Kharkiv region
Investigators of the UK used a quadcopter to survey the area near the city hospital and search for bodies. Due to the close proximity to the front line, it was necessary to notify the units of the armies of the DPR and Russia so that the drone would not be shot down, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

On February 24, Russia launched a special military operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine . President Vladimir Putin called its goal "the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years."

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Russian Armed Forces strike only at military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and have already completed the main tasks of the first stage - they have significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal of the operation in the military department was called the liberation of Donbass .

#1  Mariupol Moron Brigade, fighting to the last Ukrainian British war tourist

A British ‘mercenary’ captured in Mariupol has been told by the Russians that his Ukrainian commanders wanted him to be killed as he fled a factory hideout - so he would be seen as an anti-Putin hero by the outside world.

There was “not much time to think,” said Pinner.

After this, his words were subtitled in Russian but his original speech was not audible.

According to the subtitles, Pinner said: “It was very dark. We took the injured with us.

“Mortar and artillery shelling began, military aviation worked. Panic began.

“Everyone started running in different directions.

“My commander seems to have disappeared.

“I still don’t know what happened to those who were there with me.”

"One of the most instrumental groups for the recapture of Mariupol was the Azov Battalion, an Ukrainian neonazi volunteer militia.[49] By September 2014 Azov was integrated into the National Guard of Ukraine, and set Mariupol as their headquarters.[50] As one of Vladimir Putin's stated goals for the war is the "denazification" of Ukraine, Mariupol represents an important ideological target for the Russian forces.[51][52]

#26  ^ They've learned a ton about advanced urban warfare techniques in Syria. MITRE concluded in 2020:

"The fighting in Syria has allowed Russia to test
a range of new weapons and new concepts and has trained a number of leaders in contemporary warfare outside its borders, making it much different than the earlier, more localized fight in Chechnya. New methods of employing Spetsnaz forces and new ways of utilizing private military companies were explored.

"The Syrian experience has refocused Russia’s military on urban warfare and the difficulty of extracting enemy fighters from buildings while trying simultaneously not to harm the local population and to find humanitarian corridors for their extraction from the combat zone.

Russia’s use of robotics and unmanned vehicles in urban operations, learning ways to use radio-electronic equipment or information technologies to disorganize enemy signals, and defending bases from UAV attacks were other lessons learned.

"Finally, the Russian military is in the process of incorporating these lessons learned through conferences, round tables, and new manuals. Russia’s military will undoubtedly be a stronger adversary after their Syrian experience than before it."

#41  Yes, Putin is the most pro-Israel leader Russia's ever had.

Oh, it’s true, although there was a brief period when Socialist USSR was happy to support brand new, labour socialist Israel to annoy America, allowing Czechoslovakia to arm the new country. Nowadays, like many Western nationalists, President Putin admires Israel’s willingness to fight for its existence as its people’s nation state against both the Muslim world and Progressive ire. And of course there’s Israel’s technological cleverness — everybody wants a piece of that — and so many of Israel’s new technologists are former Soviet Jews he hopes have sentimental ties that will benefit the Ould Sod.

Poor Mother Russia finds herself trying to balance as long as possible between her traditional regional client, Syria; her partner in confounding America, Iran; and Israel. But RealPolitik suggests that in the end it won’t be Israel Russia stands with, no matter President Putin’s fellow feeling.

One one hand, it is a fish-out-of-water comedy about an actor/comedian who becomes president of a corrupt Eastern European country.
On the other, it is the story of the plucky, handsome leader of a small country under attack who flies around the world pleading for help against his larger foe. His moving speeches have been well-received except in Israel where his references to the Holocaust bombed. (no pun intended)
With the right backers, this could be a long-running hit show.

The weapons being sent to Ukraine and why they may not be enough (videos)
[Aljazeera] Ukraine has surprised the world by bringing Russia’s invasion to a standstill. Most of the world was aghast when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his military to attack its neighbour in late February. The new professional Russian army was expected to make sweeping advances, its reputation for effectiveness not yet earned but assumed.

However, Ukrainian resistance was much stronger than anticipated and Russian armoured columns were not only halted but in many cases destroyed as Ukraine leveraged what weapons it had to the greatest effect, its commitment to defend itself with great energy, surprising Russia and the world. Since then, Ukraine has seen a flood of arms as weapons pour in from Europe and the United States.

#1  I watched a youtube video of an upgraded A-10. I think that the Ukrainians would make good use of some of the older 'warthogs' since our Air Force doesn't want them. I bet we could get pilots to fly them too. shades of Gen Chenault.

#2  Congress has ground USAF's nose in the A-10 for so long that anything short of scrapping is not going to make the brass happy. They might like the idea of seeing them shot down. More importantly, we have no business supplying this war. At all.

North Korea Tests New Weapons System To Improve 'Tactical Nukes'
[NATION.PK] Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
supervised the test-firing of a new guided weapons system to improve North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
’s "tactical nukes", state media said Sunday, capping days of celebrations surrounding the birthday of the country’s founding leader.

The launch was the latest in an unprecedented blitz of sanctions-busting weapons-tests this year, which included firing an intercontinental ballistic missile at full range for the first time since 2017.

It also came just ahead of US-South Korea military training exercises — which have always infuriated Pyongyang — that were due to begin on Monday.

The "new-type tactical guided weapon... is of great significance in drastically improving the firepower of the frontline long-range artillery units and enhancing the efficiency in the operation of tactical nukes," the North’s official KCNA news agency reported.

It said the test was successful, but did not specify when or where it took place.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected two projectiles fired late on Saturday, which flew 110 kilometres (68 miles) at an altitude of 25 kilometres, travelling at speeds of around Mach 4. The United States was "aware of the North Korean statement that they conducted a test of a long range artillery system", a Pentagon spokesperson said, adding it was monitoring.

Analysts had widely expected Pyongyang could conduct a nuclear test as part of events to celebrate Friday’s anniversary of the 110th birthday of North Korea’s founding leader — and Kim’s grandfather — Kim Il Sung.

Expectations were heightened because of indications that Pyongyang had restarted work at one of its known nuclear testing sites. Analysts said the weapon tested over the weekend appeared to be a new short-range ballistic missile — but no less significant.

"This is North Korea’s first tactical nuclear weapon delivery system, it would seem," said Ankit Panda, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "You don’t have to be particularly imaginative to put this two and two together."

#6  SpaceX has launched so many satellites for NRO the hobbyist watchers know the process by heart. Basically SpaceX will provide live data about the launch up until first stage separation, then they just follow the boosters to their landing. Supposedly the timing and duration of the second stage burn would give away the satellites orbit.

But let's be honest -- China and Russia likely have radars watching and know the satellites orbit when the second stage cuts off.

Southeast Asia
Myanmar Junta Says To Free 1,600 Prisoners In New Year Amnesty
[NATION.PK] Myanmar’s junta said it will release more than 1,600 prisoners from jails across the country on Sunday to mark the Buddhist new year, without specifying whether those being pardoned were protesters or common criminals.

The Southeast Asian country has been in turmoil since Aung San Suu Kyi’s civilian government was ousted last year in a military coup, which sparked huge protests and a deadly crackdown.

State television announced that 1,619 prisoners, including 42 foreigners had been “pardoned” and will be released to mark the new year.

It was unclear whether anti-junta protesters or journalists jailed for covering the coup will be among those freed.

On Sunday morning, more than 100 people gathered outside Yangon’s Insein prison hoping to be reunited with loved ones, AFP correspondents said.
